Seems like every other week another self-styled cis feminist gets absolutely obliterated by trans and non-binary people because they said something that didn't consider experiences outside of the cis binary. And every time they double down and start malding and insisting they are the only feminist in the room, and that the stuff they internalized in like 1970 is correct and they never ever need to grow and change.
Like, none of us are perfect and we're all going to express something that feels totally basic and obvious to us, only to find that people with different experiences are going to object to our limited perspective. My tip is, instead of being a whiny loser about it, is to maybe internalize the idea that trans people know what they're talking about when they say your feminism needs updating and that trans people know their experiences with gender perfectly fine, thank you very much.
Not that anyone with a large following does this or anything

It's truly wild to me how many people out there don't understand that the Star Wars prequels are a tragedy or how tragedies work.
Posts like "these are the Jedi failed movies" truly just make me shake my head. They're actually the "fascism wears a smile until it strikes you down and then it's too late" movies. They're the "the senate became corrupt and clapped in the face of genocide" movies. They're the "make people scared enough of war until they accept authoritarianism" movies. They're the "fear and possessiveness will tear you up on the inside" movies. The Jedi were the heroes of lore, people loved and looked up to them, looked to them for safety, and then too much got put on their shoulders on purpose by Palpatine, and also by a senate that didn't want to act (not you Padme and Bail and Mon, you're perfect). They were drafted and used and scapegoated, which is, you know, a tenet of the vast majority of authoritarian governments (Hitler and Stalin, for instance, might be on different ends of the political spectrum, but they sure both did scapegoat specific groups and commit mass murder, just differently).
When some people say "these movies are about the fall of the Jedi" what they mean is "the Jedi failed" but that's not what "the fall of the Jedi means." It means they were wiped the fuck OUT. Like, Jesus, in Rogue One Tarkin is talking about burning out the final MEMORY of the Jedi by blowing up the holy city in Jedha. Palpatine had to get rid of the Jedi because to get rid of the Jedi was to get rid of the final people standing in his way after he had already worn them out. His intention was not only to kill them, but to alter the galaxy's entire perception of them. To rip away hope. People are always looking for the Jedi to be Bad or nitpick their mistakes (because while other people are allowed to make mistakes, the Jedi never are). Palpatine made himself look like a benevolent grandpa who would keep everyone safe. And that, more than anything, is what gave him SO much power. He stole the narrative.
It's just like. Of course WE know what was going to happen! We know from watching the OT that the PT can only end in tragedy. But the characters don't know that! They don't have all the info! That's how a tragic story structure works. We see it coming and they can't.
Anyway. The Jedi are laser-sword wielding monks with psychic powers who just wanted to do what they could to help. The world would be better if more folks remembered that.

while im at it neopronoun opposition is weird to me as a swedish person.. the whole debate is so anglocentric that they assume every language landed on the same solution they did, to reuse a plural pronoun as a gender neutral one and then they think any other solution is absurd or unheard of. what do you mean you just made another pronoun up you cant do that!! etc
coz its like here in the 2014 the swedish academy accepted 3rd person pronoun "hen" (as opposed to hon/han) like officially into our word list after it gained some popularity in the 2010s. like that is a NEOPRONOUN that someone just Came Up With in like the 60s and then people just started using it and now its just a recognized part of our language. sure we could've also reused our plural pronoun "de/dem" as a gender neutral one but we just made up a new one instead. and to like imply that mainstream use of a neopronoun is just UNHEARD OF and that neopronouns is something the mainstream could NEVER GET USED TO EVER!!! is... your perspective is very limited to the english speaking world is all i can say

"billford is abusive" yeah. fucking obviously
here's the thing: literally no one is making content w the inherent idea that billford is a healthy relationship, or that they Should be together. but it is a genuinely interesting dynamic with tropes that have been enjoyed since literally forever: power imbalances, mortal/god, enemies/lovers etc. and part of the appeal of why their relationship is so interesting is delving into the underlying care/love between them. abusive relationships aren't constantly threatening or scary 24/7 - part of what makes them so easy to fall into is that you really do love and trust this person - which is a realistic portrayal!! the tragedy of it is an idea that has been loved for ages: watching a relationship grow and evolve, even knowing that it still ends badly!! it's interesting and heartbreaking and it is literally just basic antithesis.
this is like basic media literacy can we pleaaase be serious lmfao. it's fine if you don't fw the ship/dynamic but you don't have to come up with a moral high ground for it - and having a dynamic that is explicitly abusive, while also showing the victim to be able to heal with support, in mainstream kids media facilitates further recognition and discussion on abuse which is a good thing.

another thing i've Witnessed in all spheres of modern feminism is who gets afforded the grace of "internalized misogyny" vs who just gets called a "misogynist"
like if you are a feminine cis girl (& usually white too) all your sexist bullshit is excused as internalized misogyny that was pushed on them by a sexist society that they have to unlearn but in the meantime we cannot hold them accountable or be too mean to them bc they're traumatized and trying :((((( so if you call out their sexism, YOU are in fact being a woman-hating bitch/dyke/etc who hates girls and girlhood
but...... if you are a trans woman or you're butch or a stud or a woman of color and you say anything even perceived as sexist, oh no no you do NOT get the grace of "internalized misogyny". you don't get time to learn or grow. you are a sexist and you should be shot and you might as well be a man.
and usually the latter group's "misogyny" is just pointing out the other group's double standards and sexism which gets us called not girls girls and "pick-mes" (used wrong) and sexist etc. like sometimes obviously we ARE misogynistic, everyone is, but usually it's over the dumbest shit and even in the cases where someone in the latter group is being genuinely sexist, they are NOT given the same grace as the former group

it's actually so weird how people react with such vitriol to the slightest mention of minecraft youtubers like i used to be sympathetic about it because of the whole association with dream and so on but it's gotten to the point where if you've been made aware it's a rich and varied community and you still have that knee jerk reaction of "well they're lame, they're cringe, they're all ugly racist white boys" you are actually just a fucking idiot. i'm sorry. like if you cannot do that most basic level of separation like that there is something fundamentally unformed in your brain you should probably work on

At the risk of reacting to the discourse, and knowing that I have most of the people who could benefit from thinking about this blocked, I just want to say how disheartening it is to see people trying to tear Tommy down to lift Eddie up, when in reality Eddie could really benefit from Tommy's friendship.
We've already seen that Tommy is good for Eddie. Around Tommy, Eddie is light and young and free. He's having fun.
Tommy gets Eddie out of the house. They work on cars and spar and do karaoke trivia. Eddie practically bounced into that helicopter in 7x04, excited beyond words to hang out with his new friend and do these exciting new things with him. Even before Buck and Chimney got to the basketball game, Eddie was having the time of his life playing with Tommy. Because that's what Tommy reminds Eddie he can do: play.
Don't you want that for Eddie? This man who's been weighed down by adult responsibilities since he was a literal child, even before he became a teenage father. This man whose life has been defined by Stepping Up and Sacrificing and Being a Man.
There have been so many arguments made that Tommy is characterized the way he is to intentionally mirror Eddie. This actually uniquely positions Tommy as someone who can help Eddie because they've been through so many of the same things. I made a whole other post about this, but I think that Tommy can provide a very helpful template for Eddie deconstructing his ideas of narrow masculinity and forced self-heteronormativity.
Tommy spent so long being terrified of stepping out of line; repressing his true desires because they didn't fit with the image of himself he thought he was supposed to project as a man. He dated women he didn't love, through no fault of their own. For decades, he let his life be ruled by what was expected of him, rather than by what he truly wants.
And he let go of all of that. He learned how to be happy.
If you believe that Eddie is gay, why wouldn't you want him to have help gently stepping out of the closet? Why wouldn't you want him to have a role model—someone who has been through so many of the same things as he has and can truly relate to him on a deep level—for how to be honest with himself after so many years of repression?
Eddie can look at Tommy and he can feel like maybe the path to accepting that thing about himself that he's been denying for so long is manageable and worth the pain of walking down. He can look at Tommy and think that maybe he can be happy, too.

I feel like some of you guys forget that ctommy, in the end, is just some guy's OC. A well played and interesting one that you can absolutely connect with, but he's an OC. Holding him to the standard of characters in Tv and movies and expecting that level of complexity and sensitivity, instead of viewing him as a character made by a teenager to roleplay with, is sorta weird.
He's reacting like that because he's looking at his old oc guys, have you never looked at your old characters and laughed? I have! He was also sentimental and acknowlaged the emotional impact it had on people. He had tears in his eyes at the end of the video essay, of course he cares about the character. He cried when he went on the dsmp again for the first time in years. He says it was good, and he thinks it's good people are still into it! (Speaking of I really hope he releases the world download)
I love ctommy and I love what the community has done with him, but after watching the video I struggle to see what people find wrong with it. This is probably how you would feel if the character you roleplayer as with your buddies blew up on a massive scale like that.

i'm aware that due to luffy's more cheerful personality and looks, a lot of people might find it weird to picture him in sexual situations. especially since most of us see him as aroace (as if aroace people couldn't have sex or be in love but, y'know, that's for another time) and it's completely understandable to not feel comfortable around sexual stuff if you don't like it with this specific character. however, being uncomfortable around that type of content and infantilizing luffy's character to the point that you consider it problematic or wrong to put him in romantic/sexual situations is too much and you should let people enjoy characters however the fuck they want. if you don't like something just scroll and ignore it, but don't try to make everyone follow your own moral compass and likes because we're all different and luffy is just a fictional character.
people often forget he's the captain of a pirate crew. he's mature and has critical thinking and if seeing a cheerful/cute character instantly makes you assume he deserves to be "protected" from sex/romance, you are: infantilizing his personality (that may or may not be neurodivergent coded, but that's another story), villainizing sex and romance instead of just seeing those as something you don't personally enjoy but should let other people consume, and using being aroace as a shield from the real world and a stereotype instead of actually being inclusive and truly seeing him as aroaspec. friendly reminder that aroaspec people can have sex and be in romantic relationships because it's a spectrum. that's the whole thing about it. it's understandable to not be comfortable around sexual situations with a character you don't perceive as sexually active, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to write him that way. let people do whatever they want with their idea of luffy and have fun!

i really do hate how "inclusive language" has just looped back around to gender essentialism in so many cases. i had my women in art professor say the words "there are things that men-identifying individuals will never understand in the way women do." and it's clear she wanted to say cis (het, white, upper class, neurotypical, able bodied, etc) men (which is another conversation entirely), but in her attempts to be inclusive she's fully missed the point. there are plenty of male-identifying individuals that understand, be it trans men or multigender people or nonbinary individuals or what have you. using gender inclusive terms does nothing when all you do is further alienate and erase people's experiences/identities
