Debian 12 xfce ~~~~ let's go~~~~~

I complained about debian not having wifi drivers upon live cd boot, apparently that was by design for the older versions as (i think?) device drivers like that might be proprietary and non-free. and debian ships usually free and open source packages....

so that was by design~~ they changed it I think in debian 12, which I'm late to finding lol.

I missed the transparency thing xfce does sometimes~~~ I like xfce's compositor~~ and for some reason I don't like KDE when I tried it before and hadn't tried it since~~

could've tried it but just jumped on xfce desktop with debian 12, especially cause I've come to like thunar file manager over dolphin (? was that kde's?)

just got it up and running~~ tho I forget (or don't know) how to update the system yet.... mint has an update manager, or it's a cinnamon desktop thing..... idk.... tho I'm guessing "sudo apt-get update"

I like the splash screen and grub menu~~~ and (not that linux mint debian was unstable cause it wasn't~~) I hope debian is really stable~~ ot that's what I read anyway~~

and my function keys still work, lol. unlike upon fresh windows install~~

and I can still access the other hard drive~~ but for some reason upon unmounting it it says that there's still something going on or data is being written to it, but then it seems to unmount fine anyway~~ so I hope nothing is going wrong already~~ lol

continually talking about linux cause I got nowhere else to~~ lol sorry for cluttering up the tags if they aren't correct at all~~

now to install vlc and stuff lol~~ and hopefully find more xfce-4 themes so I can get it looking like windows 95 lol

or what's a better desktop environment than xfce? I tried lxde and it's supposedly not getting updated anymore so better to try lxqt in that case? it's newer.... Cinnamon is nice but got bored of it w mint, kde I didn't like back when I tried it a decade ago and hadn't touched it since.... hadn't messed w GNOME either in a long while either tho, I miss the sidebar and quick access to workspaces but didn't like it for other reasons too... or maybe it wasn't as customizeable..... or I didn't know how.....

also just realized that the installer didn't ask for a root password so i have to "sudo" every single time cause I can't run as root directly.

and for some reason my username didn't capitalize so I tried to log into the system and it said the password was incorrect, I knew the password was correct, I made the first letter of my username small and i was in~~~

wtf~~~ did it lowercase it in the installer and I didn't realize it? is this what happened before when I tried to install debian years ago? I just reinstalled mint like an idiot instead of trying things T_T;;

tho I still consider myself a newbie cause arch, opensuse, slackware and others like that scare me ~~~ but they'd get me to learn~~ I just don't know enough to use them yet.

which begs the question, should I be running debian anyway? or should I just go back to mint?p

second guessing myself after a SUCCESSFUL INSTALL~~~~~ rip. but I like what I got going..... and cinnamon was getting boring lol

tldr: I'm taking tumblr on the linux journey with me~~~ :) hopefully typing about it into the void will help me be less anxious about trying stuff and potentially breaking my system~~ lol cause ya can always install a system that you know works~~ if something breaks.

Food in the Edgy Sword Manga: A Summary

This is long because I hit the image cap but I at least managed to keep things succinct for once in my life.

In short: Kagurabachi has been using food as obvious symbolism for connection, trust, general well-being, and/or mutual understanding since the beginning.

Chapter 1

Moments like these are cherished memories that Chihiro keeps close to his heart. Note his relaxed, open posture compared to the next image.

Three years later, Chihiro is turning down Mr. Shiba's small offer of comfort. He still relies on Mr. Shiba and cares a great deal for him, obviously, but his heart is closed off now.

Vs. Sojo Arc

Chapter 3

Our first obvious glimpse into the kind nature Chihiro tries to smother with edginess. He'll turn down comfort from others but he'll easily offer some to a scruffy orphan. He even makes sure he gets down to her eye level to reassure her when doing so (Hinao also did the same earlier in the chapter). Take notes, Mr. Shiba.

World's Hardest-Working Uncle Figure doing the clarifying monologue shtick to perfection as always. Just so we know that this bit with Char is perfectly in-character for Chihiro.

Char doesn't trust Chihiro yet, but she's willing to help him with his own quest at least. They connected over the meal (short-lived as it was).

Chapter 5

Chihiro being run ragged by a hungry, lonely little girl should trounce any lingering doubts that this guy is an uncaring revenge bot. You can tell by his thoughts and dialogue here that despite his brusque attitude, he's more focused on Char's quirks and well-being than the information she can offer him. And Char reciprocates by starting to let her guard down- his altruism when providing security and comfort gets her to trust him completely.

Again food being used to reference someone's well-being. Living as a science experiment in captivity was terrible even when she still had her mom (obviously). But Char's safe now with access to good food through Chihiro. Or so she hopes.

Chapter 6

Chihiro's cherished memories of his dad are corrupted thanks to the trauma sorcerer. A meal interrupted, trust and safety shattered. Only hatred is left according to Chihiro when he comes to. ...But he's not exactly the most trustworthy guy when it comes to his own status.

Instead of the science lab or the cell itself we see a tray of indistinct mush and water in a cage. Just a gentle way of bonking us over the head that the food metaphors are supposed to be obvious- and that whatever is waiting for Char back there with Sojo is not good for her (or anyone really).

The comfort Chihiro offers is a bit awkward and messy, but it's still wholesome as fuck. He's willing to give it at his own expense too. Someone please give this boy a hug.

Chapter 11

Poor Mr. Shiba. One day he'll find someone who appreciates his awkward attempts to help people. At least Hinao didn't turn him down despite the poor presentation.

Between this scene and the grilled smelt from Chapter 1, it's pretty obvious that Shiba sucks at trying to be a source of comfort, but at least he tries.

Alone and back to being mistreated. Oh, Char...

Chapter 15

Just like Chihiro, this represents the precious memories Char has of her mom. When she was safe and loved.

And once again, safety and comfort are brutally ripped away from a child and their only parent.

... but what was lost can be found again in the right people.

May nothing bad ever happen to Char again. I mean it.

Chapter 17

Ah, one of my favorite tropes! Interrupting a fierce battle scene to show the combatants having a casual chat! This time, there's no comfort or security to be had through sharing food, though. Instead, this is exchange is purely about connecting and understanding each others' views.

A bit of trivia: these guys are probably eating hanami (a.k.a. sanshoku) dango which are usually eaten while viewing cherry blossom trees in the spring. They're sweet and thus extra unappetizing for Chihiro (he dislikes sweet foods and drinks in general).

Sojo initiates and eats a single dango. He begrudgingly accepts that Chihiro's view of Kunishige's legacy is legitimate.

As the conversation goes on, Chihiro accepts Sojo's interpretation in turn. Both of them are correct. And yet:

Chihiro painfully finishes his dango while Sojo is content to leave just the first one eaten. This is Chihiro being willing and able to swallow the whole truth and all it's implications, no matter how unpleasant the experience is. Meanwhile Sojo cares more about being the one with the "most correct" interpretation. Chihiro ended up getting more out of the conversation than Sojo did, which gave him the edge he needed to win the fight.

And that's the end of the Vs. Sojo arc. The food references aren't as common past this point, but they still show up to give some extra context in a few scenes.

Rakuzaichi Arc

Chapter 19

Hakuri's just a fuckin' mess dude- alone, insecure, and can't give himself any kind of reassurance. Given what what we can infer from his monologue, it's pretty obvious this guy is going through it and not coping as well as he thinks he is.

Chapter 26

Our spaghetti queen and parfait king share a meal to let us know that they're pretty comfortable with each other... though outsiders might not get what their deal is. It's casual and they chat like they've known each other for a while. Tafuku and Hiyuki's relationship is solid despite the yawning chasm between their personalities.

Once again Shiba's good intentions are turned down. At least Char is comfortable enough to let Team Goldfish know about her wants and needs now though!

Meanwhile, Hakuri isn't ready or willing to let anyone console him, but least we have better insight as to why he struggles to keep his shit together. Most people would- and we haven't even seen the worst of his circumstances yet.

Chapter 28

After a few days of encouragement from Chihiro and helping out, Hakuri finally lets himself be treated a little. He earned himself a bit of security and respite but is still uneasy, and thus quick to let the warm fuzzies go (hence passing the ice cream to Char instead of bringing it with him). Neither Chihiro nor Shiba have any themselves.

Chapter 35

Oh man. Oh boy. Time to really get into why Hakuri is the way he is. This could be a whole post by itself but I'll try to be brief. (Honest.)

Shout out to the KB Confession account on Twitter for letting me ramble in their inbox with that long-ass submission about how Hakuri relates to food in this series. I've reworked it poorly here (so much for being anonymous I guess).

Sazanami prison food looks better than what Char was getting, but it's not out of kindness- everything in this place exists for the Rakuzaichi. Hakuri obviously sees himself as no different. He threatens to keep Ice Lady alive no matter what she wants because that's his job; there's no affection or compassion involved when he provides her meals.

Ice Lady seems to want to genuinely connect with Hakuri though. Even when she fails to manipulate him, she keeps the offer of companionship open to him since she's empathetic to his situation.

It works as she thought it would, but maybe not as she hoped. We see him coming to trust and find comfort in her as she leaves less food behind each time, but she's unable to find the same in him. His insistence on their one-sided relationship through food only pushed Ice Lady further and further away despite her apparent growing affection for him. He got it all wrong because he didn't know any better. It's painful to love and be loved as a Sazanami- especially a worthless defect like him. Hakuri wasn't able to understand the ramifications of how fucked up his situation was until Ice Lady slit her throat in his face.

Up until this point, providing food was a positive thing- people connecting and usually finding comfort. At the bare minimum it allowed Chihiro and Sojo to understand each other before the end. But Hakuri inverted and distorted the meaning of sharing food with someone. His actions helped him break free from his family's grip by revealing that he doesn't know what it means to properly offer and reciprocate genuine human connection. So now Hakuri probably associates sharing food with being used and hurting other people.

That's why we haven't seen him share a meal with Team Goldfish or anyone else yet IMO. For all that he's attached himself to Chihiro, he still hasn't exchanged any food with him. Hakuri only trusts that Chihiro saw something worthwhile in in him, that through him there might be hope outside the cage after all. He's barely beginning to see himself as a useful tool. Once he gets to the probably not a horrible human being mindset is where we might see him be able to open up and try to share food again.

Chapter 43

The normal loving family that could have been, if not for Kyora and the clan's slavish devotion to the Rakuzaichi. It's sad but not suspicious that Mrs. Sazanami isn't included much in the meal- all signs from this chapter point to a joyless arranged marriage after all. Her not participating with her husband and sons speaks volumes about how distant and miserable she must have felt despite (presumably) making that spread. To provide care, comfort, and love while not being able to partake of it is all too common for mothers.

And so, another arc concludes with people sitting down to eat together despite some of them being doomed to die. And an exploding building. Gotta have both in Kagurabachi.

Kamunabi Arc

Chapter 45

Hey Chihiro, whatever happened to waking up with fresh hatred every morning? lmao

I love these goofs so much. It's just snacks on a coffee table, but it shows that Hiyuki and Tafuku have earned some level of trust from Team Goldfish. Shiba trusted them enough to supervise their stay in the same room as his sleeping nephews at least. And Char's already completely won over apparently. This manga does not miss on the found family wholesomeness.

Hiyuki might see the Kamunabi as a sort of family. At the very least, they're an important safety net for society as a whole. Hence us seeing the food again- protection and security.

So who and what will be next? Chihiro bonding with Hiyuki and Tafuku? Kazane turning someone's offer down? Chihiro, Hakuri, and some new coworkers chatting over lunch in the Kamunabi's cafeteria? I'm definitely going to be on the lookout! Until next time, Bachibros.

Abed mentions all sorts of movies and tv shows through out Community, but I just wanted to know if maybe you have like a list of which ones are real and which ones he seemed to like more than others.

I can only think of the dark knight because of the dvd Annie broke, and the Star Wars movies (except he apparently hates the prequels) and cougar town!

so, he mentions/references an insane number of movies and tv shows throughout the series, and I unfortunately do not have a list of every single one. although, I am (VERY slowly) working on an in-depth episode-by-episode analysis of the entire series, and listing every pop culture reference is a subsection in that. but that's not helpful right now. moving on

I believe this is a list he apparently made in 2009, either in the first few weeks of school or right before the school year started. so it's possible he would answer differently as the series progressed. also, I do take some of these extra-canon things with a grain of salt, as on the same form he said his favorite place on campus was study room D or something, when obviously they definitely meant to write study room F. so, the credibility of my source for this information isn't exactly rock-solid. although, he does mention a lot of these movies on screen, and expresses love for many of them (the most notable ones probably being star wars episodes IV-VI, the breakfast club, and pulp fiction)

as you can see from the list, abed particularly loves american movies from the 80's. just a trend I thought I’d point out.

I think he generally talks about movies more than he talks about tv shows, but he does mention quite a few of them. some notable mentions are:

at this point anyone who has seen community knows there are some really really big ones that I haven’t mentioned yet. pieces of media that are INTEGRAL to abed as a character. I was saving them for last lmfao. they are:

kickpuncher

inspector spacetime

cougar town

if I had to pick a holy trinity of media for abed, it would be these three things. these are EASILY the things he talks about the most, which is interesting, as both the kickpuncher movie franchise and the inspector spacetime series are completely fictional, and only exist in the community universe. (this is probably so they can show abed actually watching some of the shows/movies he talks about, without the obvious copyright issues that come with playing clips from an already existing movie/tv show on your screen. they kind of do that with blade in 3x15, but they only play vague fighting sounds, and never show their tv on our screen. anyway. not relevant.) to answer one of your questions from the ask, I believe those two are the ONLY fictional pieces of media abed talks about. as far as I know, everything else he mentions is real, including cougar town.

kickpuncher is obviously reminiscent of sci-fi/action films from the 80's, like robocop. like I said earlier, taking their place so that they could have a more substantial role in abed's on-screen life without any copywrite worries. it's a whole franchise, so there are multiple movies: kickpuncher, kickpuncher 2: codename: punchkicker, kickpuncher 3: the final kickening, kickpuncher: detroit, kickpuncher: miami (?), and kicksplasher (?). kicksplasher is apparently shown as a poster on abed's wall, and I’m assuming it's from the same franchise, although that could be wrong. the point is there's a very elaborate universe for kickpuncher, and it's a big part of abed's, and later troy's, film taste. the first time they mention it is in 1x15 romantic expressionism, when abed, troy, shirley, pierce, and chang all get together in abed's dorm room to make fun of stupid movies together. it's funny that it was introduced as a stupid movie to watch ironically, then troy and abed both end up genuinely loving it lmao. classic

inspector spacetime is obviously reminiscent of doctor who. they're both british sci-fi series that have been running for decades. doctor who uses a police box to travel the multiverse, while doctor who uses a telephone box. doctor who has malicious daleks who chant "exterminate," while inspector spacetime has blorgons who shout "eradicate." the concepts of the shows are obviously the same, with the actor for the doctor changing every season, etc etc. they're essentially the same exact show, but, like I said before, changed slightly so they can world-build without getting copywrited. there is something a little bit silly about this, though. it's definitely a continuity error and it's up to everyone whether they want to accept it as canon or not, I guess, but there's an episode where abed is actually wearing a doctor who t-shirt. (it also references bill and ted, but the doctor who part is what's relevant.) here's some pictures:

awesome shirt tbh, but it is a little bit funny that is essentially makes it true that doctor who and inspector spacetime both exist in the community universe. and, these pictures are from the cold open of 4x11 basic human anatomy, which is way after inspector spacetime is introduced to the show (3x01 biology 101). so, is inspector spacetime just a rip-off of doctor who? is abed a fan of both shows? if he is, clearly he likes inspector spacetime better. anyway. I would guess that this wasn't intentional. but that is definitely a tardis on that shirt. maybe it's just a classic season 4 continuity mistake. oh well. I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles. anyway.

cougar town time! yes, it's a real show. I didn't think it was but it is. what's not real is cougarton abbey, the short-lived british remake that britta gets abed into in 3x01 biology 101. but yeah. it has 6 seasons and is streaming on hulu, if you're interested. I’ve heard it's not good but who knows for sure. something cool about cougar town is that abed is actually in an episode. let me be clear: not danny pudi. ABED. it's similar to the story abed tells about being invited to the cougar town set and shitting his pants while having an existential crisis about the layers of reality. here is a youtube clip of the scene. I found out about it while stalking danny pudi's wikipedia page months ago, you know, a typical sunday afternoon activity, and I saw a cougar town credit on there. I didn't even know it was a real show at that point so you can imagine my surprise lmao. anyway. idk if you knew that already but it's one of my favorite community easter eggs. so funny.

actually not to keep talking abt a topic hours later but i want to build off of one of my tags on that ultrakill post i rb'd last night [and im ONLY going to expand on one of my points, i will not be bringing up any other arguments in this post]

people love love love to say stuff like "pronouns =/= gender" [correct] and that you dont NEED to have specific pronouns such as he/him or she/her to be gay or lesbian [also correct], and while these two are great points that i agree with, it seems that these peoples support for this only goes as far as they/them users.

the absolute SECOND that a characters gender expression is canonically different from a "classic nonbinary" expression, its suddenly "up in the air" and "for your interpritation." and why is that?

specifically in the case of v1 and v2 from ultrakill; two canonically genderless/genderqueer/agender/nonbinray/what have you characters. v1 is VERY commonly seen as masc, and v2 is very commonly seen as fem.

v1 and v2 are also commonly headcannoned as gay and lesbian, respectively. theyre commonly shipped with characters seen as masc and fem. do you see what connections im beginning to see?

like it or not, by disregarding the canonical gender expression [or lacktherof] for these two, in order to fit them both into simple, binary, gendered boxes to also fit your specific sexuality headcanon - is in fact, an act of erasure! it comes off as INCREDIBLY iffy to fit nonbinary characters into a "masc nonbinary" and "fem nonbinary" binary.

and the fact is, i see people less often use other pronouns than it/its for these two for headcanon purposes or for fun or for projection, and more for SHIPPING purposes. there is a MASSIVE difference between adding onto a characters canonical pronouns for your own enjoyment and preference, and COMPLETELY changing them because you want a certain ship to be more gay, or whatever. an it/its user can be gay! it can also be a lesbian! it using it/its doesnt make it any less gay or any less of a lesbian, and it definitely doesnt make it any less nonbinary/genderqueer!

idk its just like. the machines in ultrakill [and most importantly v1 as the player character] being exclusively referred to as it/its is a major part of them and who they are. it is how they all express their gender CANONICALLY in the game. there are no other refferals no other pronouns, nothing. by disregarding this fact SO quickly, along with often only being for shipping reasons, you are showing that you Do Not Care for what the canon text is trying to tell you about the machines. im sorry but thats how it reads to me.

genuinely people love nonbinary characters until theyre the "wrong kind" of nonbinary, and all of a sudden jump through as many hoops as they physically can to disregard anything to do with that.

hm. anon, I fear this is a far larger can of worms than you probably anticipated. I'm going to spare you the worst of it by only giving you a short version, but be careful what you wish for.

I'm also hiding it under a cut because even the short version is embarrassingly long.

I'm hardly a connoisseur of omegaverse content, nor would I consider myself anywhere near an expert. I don't want to speak for all fics as I've admittedly not read many. I did do my master's diss about legal gender recognition, so this is more about gender and philosophically sound worldbuilding than an indictment of any particular writing or story tbh.

the short answer is I find omegaverse worldbuilding really interesting, but I've never fully been able to enjoy it due to the way a/b/o identities tend to have a biological determinist slant to them imo, and tendency for a lack of real world implications of what the omegaverse does to gender and character interactions anywhere outside the bedroom. I'd love to figure out a version that's more inclusive and philosophically/ideologically consistent, both with itself and with my own views on real life gender (basically, I want to make it make more sense, have less biological determinism, and be more inclusive of the wider range of human experiences). this is a big task, and ngl I haven't achieved it and don't anticipate doing so any time soon. I have like, a concept in my head, taking apart all the key pieces and putting them together again but different, but to make it thorough enough would require more effort and time than I have because I'm like, employed 😔

Okay, I've been neglecting this side of things for a long while, apologies. Hope everyone has been keeping okay and enjoying all the wonderful fic and edits etc we've been getting from the community over this long hiatus. Can't believe I'm actually getting nervous about the series starting, but I'm just very terrified of things getting too busy and overwhelming for me in the various fan spaces I'm in. I've only known this fandom in a hiatus so during the actual show will be interesting! Going to throw some of my 'theories' in here but they're based heavily on the promos, trailer, and interviews we've seen so if you're avoiding any of that before the show, I'll pop them under a spoiler tag! ...if I can remember how.

Okay, everyone else gone? Good. Right.

So Lucy is going to be a temporary TO until Celina graduates (poor Celina has been a rookie for what seems like actual years but I guess they're saying it's only been under a year sure okay) and Nolan will take over. Seth, Lucy's rookie, will be eager but very awkward and not fast on his feet. I adore him already but please don't fuck this up for Lucy, Seth. I reckon she'll have to give in and go to Tim for advice on how to be a tougher TO, which he'll happily give her after some flirt-teasing. And Tim, likewise, will have trouble with Miles because he's not technically a boot, he's not going to be afraid of Tim the same way real rookies are. Newly therapised and maybe as part of the small doses, he'll go to Lucy for advice on changing up his TO style a little more. Then we get a wonderful balance of them both using each other's styles. Miles has likely left Texas with his family or just his sister to protect them from a situation or a person. Potentially a DV situation, not that I want to throw that around so casually, but whatever the reason I have a feeling Miles is putting on a big front of being cool and flirty (he will absolutely try to charm everyone, especially Lucy, and Tim will be pissed af) but once things get out, he'll show more vulnerability and humility. Tim will, again newly therapised, be able to connect with Miles and help him one way or another. Or, at the very least, be able to understand why he left Texas and why staying here is important. Onto Lucy and Tim. So I have so many different theories for them. I hope we don't miss too much of them getting back to a more comfortable space with each other, and we at least get to see some of the small doses, but I am glad there's going to be a little timeskip (a couple of weeks apparently?) so we can at least have them talking and comfortable. Tim is going to be so fucking proud of Lucy being asked to be a temporary TO and he will 100% be in her corner, if he's not the one who suggested her to Grey/the captain when they realised they were short a TO. There will be flirting. So much flirting. I mean this isn't a prediction we've seen the trailer and teasers. In terms of the bet, they'll get super into it and very competitive. At some point, whether it's during the roundup or something else, they'll start maybe getting too competitive and either someone nearly gets hurt or nearly fucks up, or someone (Lucy or Tim) gets their feelings hurt. They'll pull back a little, maybe after a talk or a fight, and go a little calmer. I can 100% seeing Tim ending up throwing their bet to 'let' Lucy win, because he knows she needs some wins and he just wants to see her happy. Think of Jake fumbling to let Amy win in B99. I can see Lucy also either trying to give Tim the win or refusing for him to 'let' her win, so she tries to throw the bet too. Their rookies will be so confused and it will be wonderful. Also that scene of their shops pulling up next to each other and the rookies running out? I am 99% convinced that's during the roundup and they both race to a call and get there at the same time, so they make Seth and Miles race for the arrest and winning point. Seth's been potentially fucking up so he's desperate to prove himself, maybe something goes wrong and Tim and Lucy call a tie or truce on their bet. But can you imagine if either one of them wins and they say they don't want their winnings, they want a drink/dinner/date/adult conversation? As for messy Chenford, as in hooking up before they're officially back together, I think there's a good chance of it. I'm happy with whatever route they take tbh, so long as they're back together by the end of S7. Messy, slowburn, small doses, secret dating - whatever, just be happy. For *that* clip, it'll be during the Gala. Tim will get mildly injured during a scuffle and Lucy will offer to patch him up. They'll go up to what is either one of their hotel rooms or a shared hotel room for the Mid-Wilshire crew to get ready in.

Now, by this point they have either hooked up before a few times or they're back together, because Lucy is wearing *the* necklace and Tim would probably not be so bold to look at her like that (while looking like that!) if they weren't already in that place. He's going to let her take the lead so he's not going to try and seduce her without her being comfortable with it. And again, the necklace. She's not putting that back on without it meaning she's ready for the next step with him. I reckon the new necklace we've been seeing will be another gift from Tim, maybe a small dose, maybe just a 'fresh start' kind of thing. Could be something she gets for herself. I don't mind either way. So, for me I reckon a) she'll cave and kiss him and they maybe get caught or they end up in bed together b) they're already back together/being messy and the 'we shouldn't' is because people are waiting for them and they could get caught c) she doesn't kiss him in this scene but they cave like seconds or minutes later while she patches him up. They're going to try to misdirect us and do some fakeouts, it's what TV does, but I have faith that they will be together probably by the midpoint of the season, so I'm trying to stay in my positive era and not doom-spiral. Which is pretty difficult while being in a fandom but I'm staying in this era if it kills me because doom spiralling will probably actually kill me. As for the rest? So, Oscar and Jason will likely be the big plot points for 7a, while the serial killer will slowly make themselves known through 7a until becoming the big plot point in 7b. Speaking of the serial killer for the love of god would you let Lucy and everyone else have some sort of reaction to what happened to her? It doesn't need to be a massive storyline, just her her acknowledge what happened to her. Maybe the rookies notice everyone is super on edge or something. Just let them acknowledge DOD again and how traumatic it was for her and for the people who love her. Of course, my constant beg, let Lucy have better friendships. Not just with Tim. Let her be appreciated and loved and not be constantly undermined or spoken down to. I don't need it to be a massive storyline because I know we won't get that, but let people acknowledge how amazing she is. And someone, for the love of god, point out how she jumped from one speeding truck to another to save another officer. Someone other than Tim be in awe of her, right now. My thoughts on the Bailey/Oscar/Jason storyline? I honestly don't care. I think that Oscar will end up helping our lot in taking down Jason, purely because Jason is not letting him run off into the luxurious sunset like we know Oscar always wants to do. Oscar loves chaos but he likes lighting the match and running the other way. He would not want to hang around for whatever Jason has planned so I can see him swapping sides in a heartbeat if it means him getting off lighter.

Monica? God please no. She will probably be back if the set stuff is for the show and not another, but she better be in the process of being arrested or tried or something, because there is no way that woman (who is wanted by everyone, government and criminals alike) is going to be able to run all the way from fucking Argentina back to LA and not get caught. I will honestly be so fucking pissed if she is somehow back without being imprisoned immediately. Just let her storyline end please god. And do not bring back Blair istg. Aaron, my love. My precious angel. We know he's alive in the universe so I guess either he transfers to another station or he's taking off to pursue another dream or job or something and process all the shit he went through on this show. I know realistically a lot of the characters waited years to get anywhere promotion wise, but Nolan outranking her just makes me bristle. And I love Celina but Lucy should not be the same rank as her for too long. Lucy is constantly fighting to prove herself to everyone, making all these incredible busts while UC and doing some amazing feats and filling in for every other job at the station when they need her to, but she's not getting the recognition and I'm still annoyed about that. Do better, show. I don't think she'll be a TO permanently, but I don't mind it as a stepping stone for her. I really don't see the show letting her be a detective, much as I want her to have her dream. I have feelings about her being UC long-term and I'd rather it not be a thing for her, if only because it'd impact her screen time. Let her do short term UC and let her figure out if UC is for her before she's back with Tim. It is an important point in their relationship, but I don't want her making the decision just for him. I’ll answer the second one first because it’s shorter!

45. In terms of writing I think my narration and prose is stronger. My writing used to have fun bits and pieces, but there wasn’t much connective tissue between actions and dialogue, so the payoff of my ideas wasn’t as impactful because I was filling in too many of the blanks that I should have just trusted readers to do on their own. There were a lot of actions describing emotions or expressions without a lot actually happening in the scene; I had the problem of trying to ‘direct’ the characters as though it were a visual medium instead of just getting to the necessary bits. I’m more judicious with those now and I’ve been able to write some more impactful, concise pieces because of it

One of the problems with translating Star Wars to a modern setting is figuring out how to include the violence and oppression— Fascists still exist and they’re not fun to contend with in a modern setting because they still exist in our world and they’re not fun to contend with in real life. Star Wars should be fun in one way or another, and it’s difficult to make a satisfying modern AU if you just take all of the violence out of the equation entirely

HOWEVER

With a lighter, more humorous wrestling entertainment AU that has kayfabe built into its very nature, you get the freedom of heightened performance and drama and fighting without having to include fascism as the antagonists’ motivations and without having to kill people. You can pick and choose what parts of the story are real life and which parts are the storylines crafted for the characters the performers are portraying in the ring!!

Some highlights below:

Set in the 80s-90s, playing a little fast and loose with the timeline for a lot of stuff, but the main pro wrestling flavor is what came before the Attitude Era, the main story mostly focusing on the OG trilogy up through The Mandalorian, but with some of the Rogue One and Solo movie characters in the mix. There’s also some old first season TBB ideas floating around that aren’t connected to the loose ‘main’ story

This will all be a combination of the wrestling performance storylines like the supposedly deceased brother of the Undertaker who set fire to their childhood home and killed their parents reappearing as an adult to challenge the Undertaker in the ring, combined with some celebrity drama and news stories and public scandals. Fun and dramatic stakes that are still real for the people involved, but without having to deal with what the Imperials actually are and what they represent

Palpatine is the head of the Empire federation à la Vince McMahon, Vader as his (mostly retired) prize fighter and face of the company. The Empire’s been buying out and/or shutting down rival federations, becoming this monopoly in the industry that few people are able to oppose without finding their careers and lives financially ruined

Jango Fett was hired and paid a lot of money to start the primary wrestling school where he trained a lot of the folks in his own community first that the Empire used as the baseline for their roster. He’s bitter about having to retire after an accidental neck injury sustained during a match against Mace Windu, and is also bitter about the clauses in the contract put in place by Palpatine (or I guess Dooku acting on Palpatine’s behalf as his lawyer/accountant) that dictate that anybody who trains in his gym (the rest of the clone characters) aren’t allowed to work for the opposition since Jango was privy to trade secrets that are considered proprietary knowledge of the Empire. Jango’s company is so caught up in extensive legalese that he can’t break the contract or start a new wrestling school anywhere else.

ACCOUNTANT DOOKU

Jango later worked as private security in the latter half of Boba’s childhood, skills and contacts he passed on to Boba. Boba trained as a fighter under his father and has a lot of the same skills and disciplines as Jango but since he’s Jango’s kid and was never enrolled at the gym, he’s technically free from the reach of the Empire’s contract

The Jedi Order in this universe is more of an actual trained martial art, not really professional entertainers. There are still people who leave to go into MMA/UFC style matches, but their training is in actual fighting, not professional wrestling entertainment. Sensei are usually disappointed to see their fighters go into professional wrestling with their skills because they don’t think it’s very dignified, but it’s not like they’re forbidden from doing it or whatever

Jedi like pro wrestlers who DO have either classical wrestling or martial arts training make for better performers and athletes in the wrestling federations because they know how to do the choreography the safest way possible since they have an athletic background and know what will or won’t actually cause their partner long lasting harm in the ring

Wrestling costumes allow for characters to retain some of the flair and armor and heightened stylization of their original costumes. Same with greasepaint and tattoos and elaborate hairstyles

Palpatine retains his Naboo/Coruscanti style though it transitions from blues and purples to black and charcoal gray over the years. Big gold rings and coiffed hair, slick black shoes, a stylish walking cane with the top looking like the hilt of his saber

Don’t even get me started on hot intimidating modern mid-forties Anakin. I don’t even find Hayden Christensen hot personally but the idea I have in mind for how he looks here is so cool. THE GRAVITAS.

COOL WRESTLING NAMES!!

Boba Fett has a couple of nicknames/personas, the later ones being “The Wrath of Tatooine” and “The Wraith of Tatooine” (after he comes back from the dead)

The Sons of Dathomir: Maul and Savage tag team duo, lots of grease paint and kabuki-style masks to keep the Zabrak look

Performances also mean you could easily incorporate the musical motifs of the characters. Enfys Nest is one of the most popular crowd favorites; her theme song is this piece with the vocalizations just after the 30 second mark, her intro into the ring being heralded by drumroll and singing that’s echoed back by the fans in the auditorium. She comes in accompanied by a ton of fog rolling down the platform on her entrance (alluding to the Cloud Riders)

Heck, I could just steal one of the Undertaker’s intros and have her ride down on a motorcycle through the fog. Her costume and color scheme would also translate really well

(Enfys Nest’s finishing move is called The Savareen Standoff. The music comes back in as she stands on the top ropes of one corner, the crowd ramping back up with excitement as she jumps and does a flip in midair before landing on her opponent and getting them pinned)

Speederbike chases end up being motorcycle chases

Not everybody’s a wrestler! C-3PO and R2 are the ringside announcers. I can’t decide whether it’s better if R2 is at the Spanish announcers table, C-3PO translating as well as adding his commentary for the folks watching, or if R2 just gets overly excited while announcing to the point the production team/editors end up having to add the censor beeps over his commentary for how much he swears lol

One of the matches with Anakin ends up breaking out into side beefs with other people in and outside the ring and he can be heard yelling at the announcers, saying “I made you who you are today! You’d be nothing without me!”

Leia’s a safety inspector with a degree in journalism/entertainment law who’s investigating the dangerously unsafe practices the Empire federation has been having their employees take part in in the hopes of shutting them down. She and Bail (an entertainment lawyer) having been trying to get evidence on them for years. Dangerous stunts and gimmicks that have gone too far or ended badly are only a piece of the vast amount of rumors and accusations levied their way (to say nothing of the Fett school and other companies like it under similar impossible-to-escape contracts and NDAs). The Empire has been buying out and shutting down rival federations, becoming this monopoly in the industry; Palpatine has a lot of money and he can afford good lawyers and good press

But also: VERY satisfactory news story of Bail Organa being photographed throwing hands with renown WWF celebrity Anakin Skywalker in the streets for the shady/illegal stuff Anakin has been complicit in that has now put Leia directly in harm’s way lolol. Leia’s adoptive father vs. her real dad. So many juicy responsibilities.

Han Solo is a roadie basically in a steep debt to the Hutt Syndicate, Jabba catching up to him and threatening him into working for him. Jabba works him like a dog for weeks on the road so by the time it comes to RotJ he’s so out of it he’s basically dead on his feet before his friends manage to rescue him. He’s been working 16 hr days nonstop just chugging energy drinks to stay awake— The equivalent of Han knocking Boba into the Sarlacc pit here is him not legitimately not seeing Boba when he puts the tour truck into reverse trying to peal out of the parking lot and he ends up hitting him with the truck

Tbh you really don’t have to change much of his costume. He’s got a tool pack on his belt instead of a holster

Lando’s the head of his own moderately sized federation either in the Windy City or somewhere up in the PNW where it’s cloudy all the time. None of that’s relevant to the wrestling side of things, I just think it gives flavor.

The Cloud City match ends with Han (who audiences know is only part of the tech crew [or is he? 👀]) getting pulled into a casket match as it’s going ‘wrong’ (wrong?) and getting knocked out before Boba carts him off out of the ring. Still debating on how much of this will end up being real and how much is performance, some of that is dependent on how much of the original and prequel trilogies are real

Mask reveals are given the same gravity as they are in canon. Lots of performers aren’t seen outside the ring without their masks when they’re doing a work or a locker room interview. Allows for a lot of characters to just have regular lives outside the ring AND it keeps from breaking kayfabe when people end up traveling together on tour lol

The first time we see the Armorer it’s with Mando going to see her in the workshop where she’s got a welding mask on while she works on the props, costumes, and improvised weapons for the ring

The Mandalorian covert is a small independent wrestling/fighting company/gym. All of them have legitimate training too but work freelance and it’s not uncommon to see them in improvised arenas. Mando’s single and doesn’t have an immediate family and since he’s one of the better-known fighters he’s traveling out of town more often than the rest of them. His carefully crafted contracts and travel arrangements organized by either Karga or the Armorer as his manager allow him to retain some measure of anonymity and he’s never shown his face in the public eye as his wrestling persona, the mask he wears in the ring both a part of the character and actual practical identity protection

Ditching his work with the Guild federation could mean he ends up doing actual cage matches on the side until he’s picked up as a heel by the Empire

Gideon is on the creative team as a writer/manager for the Empire, and though Mando’s been incorporated into the choreographed storylines against other wrestlers, Gideon wants to include Mando’s real kid in some of the future stories, which Mando obviously vetoes.

So maybe there’s a title match between surprise contender Boba Fett and Mando where Gideon literally just decides to go grab the kid from the green room to include as a faked kidnapping plot line at the end of the fight, thinking it’d be okay to improvise because the publicity would be really good, but Mando wasn’t consulted at all beforehand so you can imagine how that plays out

Either Mando or Boba take the Undertaker’s place as the judge of the unofficial wrestler’s court (where arguments and petty squabbles between wrestlers are sorted out with good-natured punishments without having to go to upper management), known for being objectively fair and able to resolve things as a mediator (a stand-in parallel for being Mand’alor)

I have a whole side story for the first season of TBB. Echo used to be a wrestler until a pyro effect went dangerously wrong and he wound up out of commission as a performer (though the Empire at least covered the medical bills and prostheses. Basically making a professional wrestling AU allows for a lot of the heightened drama and fantasy elements to remain in play and for people to be grouped together in ways they are in canon, but there’s a freedom to being able to pick and choose which parts of the canon story are real in this universe and which are parts of the storylines being written for the matches. You still get to see showdowns between characters both in and out of the ring, and you can still have those juicy story reveals given the drama they deserve but without them needing to actually affect the characters in ways that they would if they were actually happening in just regular day-to-day life.
