(I’m sure I’ve missed someone I’m sorry 😂)
Notes: finally, that DBF fic.
Buy Me A Coffee?
You’re really starting to feel bad about how much you’re paying attention to him. Maybe it wouldn’t be so guilt inducing if it was a new thing, something you could brush off as fleeting interest, but the fact of the matter is you’ve had your eye on him for literally the better part of two years now.
You’ve always noticed him; how can you not? He’s your dad’s best friend. They work together, then every other week he’s at your house to watch the game. Before, you were aware of him.
But ever since you moved back home after your college relationship went bust? You can’t take your eyes off him. What’s worse is you’re relatively close friends with his own daughter, Sarah.
You’re a couple years older than her, but close enough in age that you get along well. Well enough that you’d hang out together, text each other over the years, trust each other with secrets and girls nights and the bullshit that comes with being a young woman in this day and age. Wanting her dad just feels like a betrayal, but you can’t help it.
Besides, it’s not like he wants you back. Right?
Your dad won’t be home for several hours yet; he got called out to an urgent maintenance job, something about a blown circuit board causing a whole block to have spotty power. Considering there’s some important game on today, it’s not ideal.
You guess he must be too busy to have had time to message Joel to let him know, or more likely, forgot. Not that it matters - there have been a couple times when he’s shown up early.
It’s almost embarrassing that you know the sound of Joel’s truck as it pulls up outside the house. Even more embarrassing the way your heart starts racing as you get up off the couch to let him in. You open the door just as he goes to knock on it, leaving him standing there with his hand half raised, lazy half smile on his face.
“Chief not in?” His nickname for your dad has always amused you, the sarcastic banter born from the year your dad was his boss. It was weird for them to go from equals, two blue collar single dads, to your dad bossing him round.
That worksite didn’t last too long, and they were back to their regular buddy shenanigans before long.
“Nah, some emergency power restoration. He should be back before the game starts.”
You step to the side to let him in; no point leaving him outside, or him driving across town to get home only to come back.
Joel smirks.
“Should’ve done what I did.” He pulls his phone from the pocket of his jeans, where the do not disturb sign is showing on his lock screen.
“He works too hard.” You agree, heading back through the living room, trusting Joel to close the front door behind him.
You’ve been alone with him before, just a few times, but not since you moved back home. He looks a little different. Older. He’s got silver streaks mingled in with dark curls, a little softer round the middle. But it doesn’t take away from his looks. If anything, it enhances them.
“Always has. Now what about you, huh? Last I heard you were finishing your fancy degree, had shit all planned out.”
You shrug. Your dad had never gone to college; had busted his ass your entire life so that you could. You’d enjoyed your studies, had had some good friendships and relationships there.
Then your college boyfriend with his stupid law degree had cheated on you with the secretary his new firm had hired. You hadn’t been remotely interested in trying to ‘fix things’, instead throwing your mostly unpacked shit into boxes and hauling ass back home.
You had your degrees, you could find work at home. Never mind your wounded pride and inability to trust men your age ever again.
“Sometimes stuff doesn’t go according to plan.” You say finally. “I’m getting a drink. Want anything?”
Joel doesn’t answer you, just follows you into the kitchen. You’re barely aware he’s there until you feel the heat of his body behind yours as he leans over you into the open refrigerator, snags a beer while you’re still deciding.
A jolt of electricity runs through your body at the slight contact, immediately followed by guilt. Never mind that he’s your dad’s best friend, he’s your own friend’s dad.
How could you ever face Sarah if you acted on your want for him?
You grab a premixed vodka drink, pop the cap off and toss it into the bowl on the bench, taking a sip.
The drinks aren’t your choice; your dad buys them on occasion, because as he likes to remind you, there’s no such thing as a ‘girly drink’. It’s funny, but being raised that way gave you the confidence not to give a shit about ordering a beer in a bar, the same way you’ll never be apologetic about drinking a pastel pink vodka premix that tastes like guava and sugar.
Turning, you find Joel leaning against the other bench. Watching you.
“Make yourself at home.”
It comes out far more sarcastic than you intended; immediately, you feel bad. It’s not his fault you’re trying to cope with a raging crush on him. Not his fault that he’s stupidly handsome even in jeans and a button down shirt.
Honestly you doubt he even knows how attractive he is. Somehow that makes it worse.
“Got a mouth on you today, don’t you?” Joel says almost breezily, clearly unbothered by your attitude. “You always this bratty, or is that something you learned at college?”
You can feel your cheeks heating at the implication.
“No college boy could teach me that.”
The words are out before you can stop them. Your slight blush becomes full fledged heat when you realise what you’ve said, how easily you flirt with him.
“Guess not.” Joel takes a long sip of his beer, watches you for a second, as though trying to assess something in his head.
“Guarantee no boy is gonna give you what you deserve, anyway.”
Even though you’ve just taken a drink, your mouth becomes impossibly dry.
“What I deserve?” You put the bottle down before you drop the damn thing.
Joel’s expression doesn’t change as he drains his beer, sets the empty bottle on the bench behind him.
“See, if you were mine, I’d put you over my knee and slap your ass raw for being such a brat.” He says it so damn casually, like he’s talking about the weather.
You open your mouth to speak, then close it again. Then open it.
“What’s stopping you?”
Now, his expression does change. A smirk crossing his features. You half expect him to say something about his age, about your dad being his buddy, or about you being his daughter’s friend.
It’s none of the above.
“You’d enjoy it too much.” He crosses the small space between you, thumb tracing the outline of your mouth. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed you looking.”
Your lips part, sucking the tip of his thumb into your mouth, eyes wide and staring into his own dark gaze. Something flickers there, maybe what remains of his willpower being snuffed out.
He lets you suck on his thumb for a moment before he pulls it out of your mouth, fingers closing on your chin and forcing you to look at him.
Your tongue darts out and licks your lower lip, unable to take your eyes off him, off the blatant lust in his gaze. You’re almost afraid that if you look away, it’ll break the spell, that he’ll come to his senses, or that you will.
You don’t want to.
“Eager little thing, aren’t you?” He sounds so amused, but not in an unkind way.
“I bet the thought of me bending you over and spanking you has you soaked.”
For a moment, you consider denying it. The small part of you that’s still sensible says you should. But you can’t. You just can’t.
“Why don’t you find out?” You suggest, wishing you were wearing something a bit more attractive than shorts and a shirt. At least your underwear matches.
For a moment you think he might refuse; are afraid he will refuse. That fear passes the moment his free hand slides down into your shorts, thumb brushing against your clit almost lazily.
You have to fight not to lean into his touch. Fight and fail miserably as that big, rough hand cups you, fingers caressing across sensitive skin.
“Knew it.”
Joel has no right to be this damn smug, and yet he is anyway, beyond amused at how wet you are, just from his words.
You half glare at him, mostly because you’re irritated by how right he is, but also because it frustrates you just how much you need him.
“Don’t start being a brat again…” he warns you. “Keep being good for me and I’ll reward you…”
You can’t help but melt just a little at those words, wondering what he could possibly mean. Well. You have a few ideas, but still, you think his ideas are probably going to be better.
“How?”
He just stares at you, makes eye contact as he slides two thick fingers inside you, silently answering your question and challenge.
Your knees almost buckle, but you force yourself to keep standing, reaching behind you to hold onto the bench top to steady yourself.
You’ve spent a considerable amount of time thinking about this; about his fingers inside you. About more than just his fingers. But hell if this isn’t a good start. If this is all you get, you’ll be satisfied. Needy and wishing for more, yes, but you wouldn’t push it.
Luckily for you, he’s just as needy, pushing those fingers deep into you, curling them, watching the way your eyes drop closed. Like he hasn’t thought about this a great deal, when in reality it’s all he thinks about.
“See? Told you if you were good for me, it’d pay off…”
You smirk at him, wanting to be a smartass and tell him he never said that, but you need him too much to risk it. He’s trained you well, without even trying.
“If I’m even better, will you give me more?”
Your eyes drop to the visible bulge in his jeans, leaving absolutely no room to question what you mean. The sound he makes is somewhere between a growl and a groan, understanding what you want and more than willing to give it to you.
“‘M not gonna fuck you in the kitchen, baby.”
The amount of restraint it takes for him to say that is clear in his expression. Honestly, he’d love nothing more than to yank those tiny shorts down, hoist you up onto the bench and fuck you senseless, but the kitchen isn’t the right place.
He has enough restraint to want to do this properly, enough respect for you to be hesitant, even though it’s difficult.
Quite frankly you wouldn’t have cared if he’d bent you over the closest surface, but it’s the little want to be a gentleman that gets you. Even if he does still have his fingers buried knuckle deep inside you.
“What about if I ask nicely?” You look at him through half closed eyes, expression innocent.
“Still not gonna happen in the kitchen.”
You smirk; that’s fair enough. Luckily there are far more available rooms you can utilise, and you both know it. Still, it’s with a definite sense of reluctance that he removes his fingers from you, brings them to his mouth and sucks them clean, leaving you once again weak in the knees.
“Joel…”
He loves the way his name sounds in your mouth, knows it’ll sound even better when you’re screaming it.
“Cmon, baby, gonna show me somewhere we can go that’s a bit more private?”
You try not to look too eager as you grab his hand, drag him out of the kitchen down the hallway to the guest room that’s now yours. Your old room upstairs was boxed up years ago, and your dad has since turned it into a gaming room for his war game miniatures and old books.
Easier for you to take the guest room, make it your own space. That and it would have felt weird, taking Joel into your childhood room.
Kicking the door shut behind you, you turn, expecting… you’re not sure what, but Joel pushes you up against the door almost right away, leaning down to you, his body hot against yours.
You have plenty of time before you have to worry about being interrupted, but still, there’s a sense of urgency in the way you pull him down to you, crush your mouth to his.
In the moment you don’t care that it’s wrong, that he’s so much older than you. All that matters is him, and getting him as close to you as possible, because god knows you’ve waited long enough for this.
He moves his arms away from you just long enough to yank your shorts down, pull your shirt over your head, toss them both aside carelessly. You let him before you push him back, until the back of his legs hit your bed.
Joel lets you, lets you push him back and straddle his lap, leaning down to kiss him as you shed your lace bra, leaving you bare to his gaze as you grind yourself against the significant bulge in his jeans.
“Fuck, baby, you gonna take charge all the time?”
It’s clear from his tone that he doesn’t care, not in the damn slightest, as your hands find his belt, work the zip of his jeans down.
You don’t answer him, just kiss him again, hard and desperate as your hand wraps around his cock, frees him from his pants and strokes him eagerly.
The sound he makes is goddamn sinful as you drag your soaked core along his length, coating him with your wetness. You want to take your time, but you know your dad could be back any minute, and you’re too needy and desperate to take your time.
Luckily, he seems to feel the same way.
“You gonna ride this cock, baby? Gonna take it like a good girl?”
That’s absolutely your intention; you lift yourself up, position yourself over the tip of him, then slide down onto his length, every inch of him sinking into you slowly.
His hands settle on your hips, guiding you down, keeping you there for a moment, fingers tightening on your waist.
“Fuck, you feel so good…” he breathes it out slowly, watches you toss your hair over your shoulder, smirk down at him as you start to move, drawing another delicious groan from his lips.
You don’t answer, focus entirely on riding him, lifting yourself up and dropping back down, one hand rubbing at your clit as you move.
“Such a pretty girl, so fuckin’ good for me…”
You whimper, and maybe that’s what finally snaps him, because his hands tighten on your waist and he starts to move, no longer letting you do all the work, hips snapping up against yours, hard and fast, precisely how you’ve always imagined he would fuck you.
“Dirty little thing aren’t you? All this time you’ve been wanting me…” he almost growls it, breath hitched as he ruts up into you, pupils blown wide with lust as he watches you.
“Joel…”
You’re so close you can feel it, every nerve in your body alight as you tighten around him.
“Go on, sweetheart. Cum on my cock, I know you want to. Can feel this tight little pussy, so needy for me…”
It’s his filthy words, the feeling of him inside you, your hand on your clit, the combination of all of it, that sends you over, has you shaking on top of him, held up by his big strong hands as you find your release.
He can see the scar on your arm where your implant was put in, sees you looking and the way you bite your lip, and that’s enough for him, bucking up into you until he can’t hold out any longer, cursing and moaning as he fills you, you grinding down against him the entire damn time.
“Fuck…” he groans it as you lean down to kiss his cheek.
“Worth the wait.” You tease as you climb off of him with shaking legs, pick up your clothes and start re dressing yourself.
“Absolutely.” He zips up his jeans, sits up lazily, watches you pull those ridiculously tiny shorts back on.
You grin, feeling his eyes on you.
“Come on. Let’s go have another drink and pretend to be completely innocent before my dad gets back.”
Joel groans. You’re going to be the absolute death of him.

Hey ya'll, gather round, time to talk about what happened and what's next. I normally avoid having anything super serious on here, but this warrants it.
First, no one tumblr user caused this. Don't get mad at people on here for being apathetic, for doubting harris, for refusing to vote. They are the symptom of a broken system, not the cause, please be kind. They're far more ideologically aligned with you than those selling the apathy and reinforcing the status quo. The infighting and turning on each other is the desired outcome, please don't do that. That's how we got here. Now take a deep breath, lets move to what happens next.
Not much will likely change over the next year, you will see a lot of bullshit in the news about bills being passed and other things that attack people, but most of that will get watered down by the court systems and judges and get escalated to higher courts. Like with Florida's "Don't say gay" bill that got watered down so hard as to be almost meaningless, most of what passes over the next year will have no teeth when it's actually implemented. The point is the news headlines and fearmongering, using a scape goat (Queer, POC, immigrants) to sell success to people who have been told those are the problem with this country. Many things will be passed, very few will matter.
If you're in a deep red state, you will likely see anti trans/anti queer items on the docket next year. It's extremely important to vote against those and to get involved, if you can, to make sure everyone votes against those. Those are the real dangers, those are the real weapons. The point of all the items in the headline, all the fear, is to sell apathy and fear to get laws like those passed this time next year or this time in two years. But those won't come for a year or two, and some won't even be implemented for a year after that. That means that for the average person here, if you're in a red state, expect a 3 year timeline before you start seeing laws implemented that actually hurt you. I'm sorry, but if you're in a red state, those are likely coming.
If you're in a purple state or a weird red, like utah, expect that 3 year time frame.
HRT likely won't be limited in any real way to adults, if you see all those "water is wet" studies about trans topics, those studies were done to protect the process and treatments in times like this. Those represent a solid basis of proof that doctors associations won't want to move away from. There is a possibility that supply side regulation is done to artificially create shortages, but that would hit a lot of older cis woman just as much, so I don't see that as likely. I do not have enough information on hand to make any comments on hrt for ftm, I'm sorry, but I'm not involved enough in that process to have the knowledge to make comments.
There will be a lot of laws that are passed over the next 4 years that cause long term economic damage. Most of these will take 10 years to really show their face despite what the headlines show. This isn't great, but it's not going to destroy your life tomorrow. Amusing side note, the US downgrade that happened in the early 2010's was actually because of a prediction of partisan politics creating divides that cause situations exactly like this one.
I've said this before and will say it here again, find community irl. It's the single most important thing you can do. They will have the best resources, the best shoulders to lean on, the best people to be there when things seem bleak. If you've been too scared to go to events that interest you, to find your community, please let this be the sign that forces you out of your shell. Community will be your true savior over the next 4 years, please find it. Find ANY topics that interests you, it does not matter what, just any topic with groups that meet weekly, and start going. Every. Week. Week in, week out. You will make friends, it will take a bit, but you will. You can find community in that. I found mine in the kink and rave communities by doing exactly that. You can too, in whatever community you desire, but you just have to go and be there. I love ya'll, things will be okay. If you are truly scared and need someone to talk to, feel free to reach out and I'll reply as soon as I can. 💜

Royal Pain Part 19
Hey, guys. Sorry it took so long to get this out. The chapter was fighting me and I have had the absolutely worst week. However in slightly happier news, my partner got a new job and that means I should be able to quit mine and go back to writing full time. I'll let you know more when I do, but it's looking more and more likely.
I realized it had been a while since we had an Eddie centric chapter and decided this would be the one. And I left it on a cliffhanger again. But don't worry next chapter will see more than one villain vanquished.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16 Part 17 Part 18
***
Eddie was seething. He hadn’t been this mad since he learned Max was moving to New York. Actually. No. He was madder then that. He was pissed.
Gareth grimaced. “They won’t do anything?”
“No,” Eddie growled. “Because he technically hasn’t violated the protection order, according to them.”
“If he can’t get with in five hundred feet,” Brian said, “then how did he find out about Steve.”
Eddie threw up his arms into the air. “That’s what I asked.”
“I’m betting,” Mandy said, “that they didn’t have a good answer?”
“Apparently since Seth showed up at Hopper’s,” Eddie snarled, “and not Steve’s shop, that he was just going around to all the tattoo parlors and threatening everyone.”
Jeff rolled his eyes. “I bet they didn’t even check with other tattoo shops and just made that shit up.”
“I even talked to Officer Callahan who was in charge of the original case file because he’s not supposed to be out of jail yet,” Eddie said, beginning to pace. “He never went.”
“What?!” came the shocked cry of outrage from everyone.
“Yeah,” Eddie continued. “Apparently he made a deal with the DA and they didn’t tell me. He got two years probation.”
“That’s bullshit!” Mandy hissed. “He was going to kill you.”
“Criminal mischief,” Eddie said. “Domestic abuse down to criminal mischief. $300 fine, two year probation, and forced to take a class about how not to be a violent offender.”
“It’s because you’re a man, isn’t it?” Gareth asked, licking his lips slowly. “These fuckers don’t think a man can be abused.”
Eddie pursed his lips into a line and nodded.
“Hop’s calling in a couple of favors to keep Steve safe,” he said. “But that does jack shit about me. And this isn’t me calling out that shit. That’s Hop’s prerogative but he’s my dumb ass ex, who’s protecting me?”
“We are,” Jeff said. “You don’t go anywhere without one of us. Garth, since you’re the only one without a roommate at the moment, Eddie’s going to stay with you. Brian, talk to Cecil, he’s studying law. See what he can recommend.”
Gareth and Brian both nodded.
Eddie buried his head into his hands. “This is such bullshit.”
Mandy came up and gave him a hug. “We’ll get through this. We did before and we will again. And this time we have more people that would be willing to help. Steve, Robin, Chrissy, hell the whole of the Royal Pain would throw hands for you.”
Eddie chuckled. He knew that too. “Well, maybe not Erica.”
Brian snorted. “That girl would sell her own mother for a cookie.”
“Not even a Girl Scout cookie,” Jeff agreed. “That girl is bound for world domination.”
“No doubt.”
*
“You tell me right now,” Wayne said when Eddie had called that night, “do you need me up there? Because work be damned, boy, I’ll be up there in two shakes of lamb’s tail.”
Eddie chewed on his nail. He felt like that little boy all over again. Being given the choice between being with his uncle or being put in a foster home. He didn’t want to be a bother to anyone, but he knew. He knew that Wayne was someone that wouldn’t care. That he could be as big a bother as he wanted, he would still be loved.
He let out a shuddering breath and like that little boy all those years ago said, “Yes. Please.”
“I’ve got some vacation time coming,” Wayne said as if he didn’t have weeks and weeks of it stored up because he was never sick a day in his life. “I cane be up there for as long as you need me, you hear?”
“I’m staying with Gareth for the time being,” Eddie said solemnly, “because Jeff is worried that Seth will follow me home.”
“Smart man, your Jeff,” Wayne agreed. “I have a friend in Indy I can crash on the sofa of for a couple of days until I can find something a little more permanent.”
“Yeah,” he whispered. “Let me know when you get into town and we’ll meet up for lunch.”
“You can finally take me to that pizza place you’ve been going on about for months.”
Eddie laughed, a knot loosening in his chest. “You’ve got it, old man.”
*
A few days later Steve was waiting for the pizza he had ordered for the shop, playing silly games on his phone when the bell announced new arrivals. He looked up instinctively and grinned.
He waved. “Eddie!”
Eddie lit up with a big smile. “Stevie?” He hopped over, an older man following a little slower behind.
“Hey!” Steve greeted. “Fancy seeing you here.”
Eddie’s smile turned into a grin. “DiMaggio’s is the best pizza place in Indy, not coming here is a crime.”
“If it’s not it certainly should be,” Steve agreed with his own answering grin.
“Steve,” Eddie said, “this is my uncle, Wayne. He’s staying in town for a few days.”
Steve’s mood was dampened a bit, knowing why he was in town. “Nice to meet you. I was planning a trip back down Hawkins at the end of the summer so that Eddie could introduce us, sorry we had meet under lesser than ideal circumstances.”
Wayne blinked at him for a moment before turning to Eddie. “This one is a keeper.”
Eddie blushed, shoving his hair in front of his face, ducking his head to hide his embarrassment.
Steve just smiled fondly at him. “I think that’s up to him.”
Wayne’s eyebrows shot up. “I like him.”
That surprised a laugh out of Eddie causing him to drop the hair. “Me too.”
“Let me just go order our pizzas,” Eddie murmured and darted for the front counter.
“He’s cute,” Steve said, waving his hand to the chair in front of him for Wayne to sit.
Wayne took the seat and smiled. “He certainly is. I’m glad the world didn’t beat the silliness out of him.”
“Me too,” Steve agreed. “I love how earnest and outgoing he is.”
Wayne hummed. “He tell what was going on?”
Steve nodded. “I’m afraid it’s my fault. Seth came after me at a friend’s shop, tried to threaten me into leaving Eddie alone.”
“I don’t think being threatened is the fault of the victim,” he said, his voice a deep comforting rumble.
Steve blushed. “That’s what Jeff and Robin said.”
“Jeff I know,” Wayne said, “Robin I don’t, but it sounds to me like they both have their heads on straight and you should be listening to them and not that voice in the back of your head.” He tapped Steve forehead for emphasis.
The bell above the door rang again and Mike and Will walked in. Steve raised a eyebrow when he spotted them.
“DiMaggio’s is certainly hopping for a random Thursday,” he commented dryly to Will when he lead a slightly reluctant Mike over to their table. Eddie arrived at the table just moments later and there are hugs and greetings all around.
“You caused quite a stir at the latest family dinner,” Will said with a huge grin to Steve.
Steve huffed out a laugh. “Yeah, how did that happen?”
“Jonathan is back on Mom’s couch,” he said with a smirk.
Steve reared his head back. “And how did that involve me?”
“Argyle kicked him out of the apartment because him and Nancy lied to him about who’s fault your and her relationship ended.”
“Nancy is furious at them both,” Mike said with a half shrug. “I’m not sure their relationship is going to survive that little revelation.”
Steve winced. “Yeah...that’s on them though. How was I to know that Jonathan hadn’t been honest to Argyle about that.”
Eddie bumped his shoulder. “You weren’t.”
“Oh we are totally on your side,” Will said.
Mike nodded. “Yeah, man. It was straight up bullshit all the lying they did.”
“Mom’s pissed because she really liked you,” Will continued, “and believed Jonathan about how things went down. Like of course she did. He’s her son, but she should have tried to get your side of it.”
“Those eight years are totally on her,” Steve said, holding his hands up in surrender. “You’ve been trying to tell her for years to at least talk to me about it.”
Will and Mike nodded.
Mike chewed on his lip as he played with the loose string on the hem of his t-shirt. “Is it bad I hope Nancy and Jonathan break up?”
The table got silence for a moment.
Wayne lifted his chin. “Why’s that, son?”
“Because I don’t think she wants a relationship. I think she was only with Jonathan and Steve,” he said waving at him with his left hand, “is because that’s what you’re ‘supposed’ to do.”
“Steve!” the counter called.
Steve got up to get his pizza order, he stopped back at the table. “I don’t think it’s a bad you want your sister to learn how to be herself without a partner. I think it shows that you’re more mature then she is. You’re a good man, Mike.”
He clapped Mike’s shoulder and then waved goodbye to everyone. He pulled out his keys and walked out to his car, flipping the key ring around as he thought.
He never intended this to happen when he saw his ex at the grocery store, but honestly? Maybe it was a good thing to get all those wounds brought to light so that they could heal properly.
For all their sakes.
*
Steve was ready for the weekend. His week had been a literal hell. But Eddie had promised that he would have fun. The band had been practicing a couple of new songs and were debuting them Saturday night.
He sat at the curve of the table, sandwiched between Robin, who wouldn’t care, only to tease him mercilessly later, and Mandy who got it, how fucking sexy Eddie and the band was when they were on stage.
Steve wished he could say he was better prepared every time Eddie got on stage, but every week Eddie went out of his way to drive Steve absolutely wild.
“He does this on purpose doesn’t he?” Steve asked after a particularly hot number where Eddie fell to his knees grinding on his guitar.
Mandy laughed. “I would like to put you out of your misery and say yes, but no. When Eddie gets on stage he loses all connection to the audience and just rocks out. His fans love it.”
Steve looked around the dingy bar and had to agree. They were just as turned on as he was. He shifted uncomfortably in his jeans, clearing his throat. “If we...” he cleared his throat again. “I mean if Eddie were to–if we were–”
Mandy took pity on him. “If you two were going out would the fans tear you to pieces for touching what they can’t?”
Steve bit his lip and nodded, looking at his hands that were twisted in lap.
She gave his knee a squeeze. “I honestly don’t know what the fans would do. But Eddie wouldn’t give a damn what they think. He’s been booed before for a song that they didn’t think was metal enough and he didn’t let that stop him. Not once.”
Steve let out a breath. It was always something that worried him. He knew he went against the grain in everything he did, but he didn’t want that with Eddie. He didn’t want to be with Eddie just because it went against the norm of what was expected of either of them.
They arrived at the club and already Robin was on the dance floor. She loved dancing and soon Mandy, Chrissy, Jeff, and Brian were out there with her. Gareth, Eddie, and Steve watched in amusement as their friends let loose on the dance floor, living it up under the rainbow lights and the thumping beat of the music.
Steve turned around and Eddie wasn’t there.
“You seen Eddie?” he shouted at Gareth.
Gareth shot up and looked around. “Shit.”
Somehow during their watching of their friends cutting it up, Eddie had slipped away.
“You check out back to see if he’s gone for a smoke,” Steve said.
Gareth nodded.
“I’m going to check the bar.”
Gareth nodded again.
Across the crowded room, a man in a tailored white suit grinned as he moved to the back of the club where the restrooms were, eyes glittering with want and rage as he scented his prey.

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Episode 6 - Over the Obento
We just had a fistfight over chocolate. Now we're going to murder each other over lunchbox meals. While I eat a lunchbox meal, because Bestie's wife prepared obentos and egg drop soup for dinner! Serendipitous!
(In two parts.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry, Kyon, but the jury returned verdict on your dumbness a long time ago. And despite multiple appeals, the evidence has always proven unimpeachable.
With examples as recent as that shit you pulled on White Day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess Haruhi's been formally accepted as an acceptable trespasser. Which is nice for me because I much prefer she sticks to her black uniform. I'm glad we haven't seen the forced and awkward Kyon Gym Clothes look for Haruhi and Itsuki in a couple episodes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sure enough, she is an officially licensed and permitted trespasser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
She caught Yuki gaming, so Yuki wasn't paying attention to what she was being given to sign. Classic con artistry. So, officially, the Literature Club is borrowing an exceptional student from Kouyouen to help them with club affairs.
Tumblr media
Well, good for her. But she isn't God here so your expositional services will not be required. I am much more interested in your green and white shoulder furoshiki. There are many different ways that furoshiki are wrapped and carried, but that color, pattern, and method of carrying is commonly used for stealing.
Man from another school walked in here carrying a burglar's lootsack and the teacher was like, "It's so nice you're here to help with a club. La dee dah!"
This is how school supplies, trophies, cheat sheets, and Mikuru go missing.
Tumblr media
There's something cathartic about having someone in the cast who can do shit like this to Haruhi. Lawful Menace was a much needed addition to this cast.
Tumblr media
They keep teasing Kyon and Mikuru's first meeting but the way they hint at it makes me pretty sure I don't actually want to know. I am entirely comfortable writing off their introduction as "We've all seen the show and know how Mikuru gets used here" and then moving right along without having to dwell on it.
Tumblr media
Well shit. Here we go. Guessing this is where the titular obento comes in.
Tumblr media
Oh, are we doing a Rashomon? Because it's always fun to do Rashomon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, never mind. This is surprisingly chaste for a Mikuru incident.
It's not a Rashomon either, but that's okay. There's not enough meat here for a Rashomon anyway. The important thing here is how it affects Yuki.
Tumblr media
Who is buying Tsuruya's bullshit hook, line, and sinker. They say a lie can get halfway around the world before the truth has even got its pants on, but that's an underestimation of the lie. It can go much farther.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryoko trying to explain in theoretical terms the road to improving Kyon's understanding, and Kyon's takeaway is a practical application of his dumbness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, he tried to get Ryoko's help and then hideously misunderstood what she was trying to explain, so now he gets Lawful Menace instead. XD Ryoko remains MVP.
Tumblr media
Because Haruhi got to wear all sorts of cool shit when she was the main character. (We do not talk about Mikuru; It does not count as wearing cool shit when it's involuntary.) Now that we're in Yuki World, Ryoko wants her turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ryoko, what are you doing? Do you have any idea how infantilizing that sounds? You should not have done this in the club room.
Ryoko is trying to keep Kyon away from studying with Yuki but in the process she's expressly excluding Yuki. This is going to hurt her feelings if it keeps up.
Tumblr media
The shit raging egomaniacs do whenever attention is not being centered on them. "Oy! I think you've made a mistake. Because your eyes are over there, but my face is over here. I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you that you're looking the wrong direction. And you should correct that."
(Haruhi, my reflection.)

hi!! just coming into your inbox because i saw you posted about the show ramy & i also loved it & have nobody to talk to about it. i know ramy youssef said he might make a season 4 but it's not official and i can't stop thinking about what a season 4 would be...fatherhood? but also he still owes a bajillion dollars due to that diamond piece he lost, right? idk. i welcome any and all thoughts <3
Hey dudette! Thanks for the follow, I'm in a pretty similar position so I feel you lol. The girl who introduced me to the show was a girl from a dating app and we don't really talk anymore so I don't have a lot of people to talk about it to either, thanks for hitting me up!
If the series ended where it left off, I'd be down with that, but I also can't deny I'm curious as to where the Hassan family + their friends end up after the third season. Putting my theories under read more cus it's a lot.
Here's what I'm thinking: it takes a really long time for Zainab to come around, but by the last 1-3 episodes she kind of accepts that Ramy is the father of her kid and she can't deny that, nor take that away from her daughter, and she can only come to this conclusion after a lot of time spent as a single mother (which comes with pros and cons) and a lot material proof that Ramy is a changed man; yeah he's still got his vices and flaws, but we all do, and he's not fucking his cousin or doing deals for the Israel mob anymore and he's finally found a nice balance between being a peaceful, average American millennial and being the firstborn son of an immigrant, which is definitely not an easy pattern to break.
Dena gets married, for sure, but the majority of her character still revolves around her studies and her career. There's scenes where her fiancé (I forget his name) gently drags her away from her studies to go on cute little dates or to remind her to eat dinner or to take her to diners for breakfast and catch up and pray and all, flirting with her over text and calling her on Facetime every now and then and linking up on weekends and vice versa, and it's established pretty well that he has a life of his own and is doing pretty well with his roommates and stuff. He and Dena get married a little after she passes the bar.
Farouk and Maysa have to sell the house, and it's super bittersweet. Ramy and Dena help them move all their stuff into this cute little 2 bedroom apartment, the second room doubling as a guest room and as a room for when one needs space from the other. It's weird not having the kids around and it's a little closer to the city than they like, but it's got a lot of perks too. Maysa can drive for Lyft and make friends easier cus everything is Right There, Farouk actually finds his rhythm as a con man, which complicates things a little but also, we all know he's a good and smart guy and would eventually know the law well enough to skirt around it, so it's a start. Their marriage improves a lot too cus they're finally humble enough to talk to each other about real shit.
Uncle Naseem doesn't accept being gay fully till like, the last three episodes. Post retirement of course. Ramy finds some old love letters while helping him clean and move the rest of Naseem's shit from Jeweler's Row and just smiles and nods to himself, dropping aforementioned shit off at his apartment with nothing but a little extra bundle of cash; both as a way of saying "sorry about the bullshit" and "don't explain; I know." and it's cool. As a cherry on top, he might have even made up with that guy at the gym, or he might have found a new guy.
Shadi should meet up with Steve at some point and get into the DJ scene proper; it's hard for him when Farouk and Maysa have to move into a smaller apartment without him, but he finds a decent and diverse group of rave bros during a set one night and it saves him from having to spend the rest of his time in the U.S. on the street. He falls for a cute black hippie chick during one of his sets, and they move in together. It's a little small and cramped but he has her and her cat has already fallen in love with him so how can he have any more reserves? This is just where god wants him to be,
I can't speak for any of the minor characters, or the cousin that Ramy stopped fucking, but yeah. This is my take. If you wanna talk more, feel free to DM!

the initial accusation was of gaslighting only. gaslighting isn’t a crime if it doesn’t involve discrimination or harassment. all the accusation said was him being a gold digger and that’s not an offence. all the SA and other bullshit is made up. if this situation was serious, then that person should’ve pressed charges but they didn’t. they even came out and said a sasaeng paid them to do it. and all the proof was debunked to be from his bubble messages and proven from the sasaeng fftm0’s stalking locations. why was he on a hiatus then? because of the hate. because he’s as soft as a marshmallow despite his physical appearance. from day 1, people have been doing exactly this, spreading hate. sm made taeyong apologise as well, you guys should very well know that he wasn’t at fault either. idc about y’all but i don’t give a shit if lucas is a gold digger, maybe he could teach me his ways🫡 yangyang has stressed time and again that he’s thankful to his 6 brothers even when lucas was on a hiatus, the sasaeng leaked pictures show kai on a vacation with lucas during his vacation and i trust their judgement more than i trust people on the internet who delete their accounts after making these claims. to people who call him a potential criminal, innocent until proven guilty is a human right. and defamation without proof is a criminal offence. people who haven’t even seen him from day 1 come and participate in this cancel culture claiming they have “morals” ukw maybe get yourselves educated on how law works worldwide huh?
oh and taeyong called nct 23 just today in the video with kim jongkook, haters can fight with a wall🙄
Anon, first of all, you write so long but you’re missing the main point huh😭 and please don’t tell myself to get educated I’m studying law at the #1 university in my country and it’s certified as a world class university I’m not even joking😕
Second of all, okay, let’s say the initial accusation was only the gaslighting. So, what makes it hard for either SM or Lucas himself to press charges to/sue/make a statement to the other ‘incorrect’ rumors and allegations? If it’s already proven by what’s so called investigator, then wouldn’t it actually be easy for him to proof his innocence?
If you think people is going to forget the allegations and rumors without any statement or explanation from the artist or the company, you’re really wrong… And to say that he’s on hiatus because he’s “soft as marshmallow” is so illogical. I’m sorry🙏🏻. SM is one of the biggest entertainment in the kpop industry so they surely have the best legal team.
So, the point is, you really can’t force anyone to support Lucas because not one single effort from either Lucas or SM himself is taken. Lucas can EASILY, press charges. SM can EASILY make statement if it was all false. 🫶
Also, please look up more on the allegations from Lucas’s China Bar🙏🏻
P.s: please learn how to speak politely to someone you dont know in real life and internet!

Please read the following transcript carefully if you wish to understand the Board's decision.
[In hindsight, it is really simple to understand. What sort of corrupt ruler tells you they're corrupt? Do they even know they're corrupt? And come on, history is written by the winners after all.
Except, that's only half of the story.
The devil/God titles are just titles they exchanged each time one usurped the other. I have been a divine historian for over a hundred years now, and I still find attributions hard. I mean, yeah, the current 'God' did the flood, to wipe out the previous God's worshippers or something. Noah did the smart thing by listening to whoever was in charge at the time. But which one of them crucified Jesus? Which one demanded for Ishmael to be sacrificed, only to change their mind later? It's a bit messy here.
You know what, let's call the current God Boss, and the other Not-Boss. It's easier that way.
Wait - what? No, no. Neither of them is the devil. I told you it's just a title to give to the loser. It works for humanity, at any rate.
And to answer your question, no, neither of them is Jesus' father either. I'm actually sure of that one.
See, both Boss and Not-Boss are just gods, not ultimately powerful at all. I mean come on, take a look at the universe. They're sort of above the ancient pagan gods in general power, but not in every aspect. General power? Ugh, sorry. I forget you're a newbie. Let me explain.
You see, we have different terms for different sorts of power. The term general power isn't even that accurate, but whatever. Look, let's divide it into three categories: there's physical power, which is the power of a god to affect the physical world we live in, through manipulation of the laws of probability; second, you have spiritual power, which affects spirit, human or other as well as the spiritual/astral realm; and finally, mental power, which affects sanity and sensory perception as well as thought, and the effect of that one is limited to human beings.
Both Boss and Not-Boss have extensive general power, which is another word for physical power. It's not very great, generally speaking, but it is something, at least from the human perspective. Spiritual and mental power, though, not so much. That's where the pagan gods come in. Let me tell you — and believe me — you don't want to fuck around with these lot.
Wait a second — I actually forgot. What are you doing here? You have been in this library for a few days now, there's no way in hell you just found out about the God/Devil drama.
Oh, that. Now that's something. But, please, say it correctly. It's The Grand Hypothesis, okay? It's not the 'what-else-is-out-there' bullshit. Look at my eyes, do you understand?
Fine, I'll tell you the story. Just take a deep breath.
The basis of the hypothesis is this: we believe there's some order or being — possibly a group of beings — that reigns superior over all the other gods, Boss and Not-Boss included. Why, they're all terrified of it/them/whatever.
Slowly, now, let me speak and I'll tell you everything you want to know. No, it's not the great Old Ones, either. Actually, the fact that they are scared of it is why the hypothesis wasn't studied further.
Look, Boss and Not-Boss had an influence on humanity for nearly two millennia now, so the time frame for the evidence is limited, but also the amount of stories and different tellings is staggeringly great. And yet, the pattern holds, and not only for them, but for other gods too.
It appears in different ways, and there are proper terms for them, but I'll say it in a way you understand:
1. The dead messenger
2. The 'why-the-fuck-couldn't-you-take-the-easy-way-out'
No, no — don't interrupt me.
3. The great shadow
They are self-explanatory, honestly. The first is about all the dead messengers of gods, and how they all met horrible ends, or had terrible lives. Did you ever wonder why the god that appointed them abandoned them? Ah — ah, no. There's no better afterlife. The gods are fucking hiding from each other, and from something else, too. Who'd gather human souls and expose themselves?
Oh, what happens to those who expose themselves? Well, we are not sure. They disappear forever, for all we know.
So yeah, no heaven or hell. At least not with Boss and Not-Boss.
Oh, I kind of feared you'd ask that. I don't think you're ready to hear the answer, yet. Trust me, just drop it.
Anyway, the second is pretty clear. There are many instances, in many stories about all sorts of gods where there is a dilemma and an easy way out vs. a hard way out. And the god, the supposedly superior being, takes the hard way out. The bloody way out, and it doesn't make sense, does it?
The third...well, take a breath.
We look into the universe for signs of divine activity — sort of like how gravity creates waves and fields — to understand the exact range of some gods' powers or to gauge the age of the oldest gods, usual work. Yes, there is a science for that! It was this that told us that something must be terribly wrong.
Imagine this, the divine field — I coined that term — is very predictable and regular, all over the universe. There are some differences that can alert you if the divine field you're observing is due to a god that doesn't belong to earth, or how old the god is. Yes, there are aliens — is this really the time for that? The point is that a divine field tells you what you need to know about a god.
Anyway, it's all good so far. Except there are vast areas, and I mean vast, that are completely devoid of any divine influence. They are literally surrounded by it, but they themselves remain untouched. Here's the thing: it isn't some random patch of space neglected by chance, it is a very defined territory of space in which no divine field exists. No, dear, it's not that the space is empty. It is that the space is dead.
There used to be creatures there, at some point, the telltale signs of temples and structures dedicated to worship are there, but they're so subdued we can't even tell who they were worshipping anymore. Not that it matters, they are also dead.
Seriously, you don't understand what? There is a being out there with the power not only to delete the entire existence of a civilization, but also the existence of whoever they worshipped.
Oh, dear, you don't get it, do you? They're dead and forgotten, god and worshippers. I remember early on, when the hypothesis was still in its developmental stages, one of our own suggested placing a mural of any random god in one of those spaces, to excite divine activity. It was a fearsome thing, I think it was one of the great Old Ones. A god sleeping since times unknown.
Look, it wasn't our first option, obviously. We tried other gods first, and every single time the ship and the mural were blown to shards before they left the ground. The gods were very simple and forward with their messages: absolutely fucking not. The only way out of it was to send a god common enough to have way too many murals to track, but also old enough to be sleeping and unaware. I think it was Yog-Sothoth? Or Azathoth. The names look alike after a while.
Sorry, I, ugh, I lost myself there. What – what happened? The ship carrying the mural was removed from existence before it even left the vicinity. All that was left of it, and everybody on board, was their absence in our memories. No divine activity was percieved near a mural of that god ever again.
I don't think you actually get this, so let me put it plainly: Azathoth, after eons of sleeping to his flutes, woke up, saw the universe for the first time, and committed divine suicide, withdrawing all his power and essence and influence from existence!
Withdrawn to where? You were in this library for three days, for goodness' sake!
Well, I don't know. Nobody knows if there's even a where that he could withdraw to, hence the term, divine suicide.
In any case, losing even the memories of our colleagues who were lost with the god was enough for us to cease all work on the hypothesis. We simply didn't want to know the truth.
So now I ask you: what are you doing here?
All associations affiliated with divine archeology has been banned and forgotten for centuries now, even this library is time-locked. Why would they send someone now?
Oh. Oh no.
Well, given everything I told you, I suppose you wouldn't be surprised if I reached for that board behind you, would you?
Leave, then, if you wish to live, although I don't recommend it. I know – I know why they sent you, so here's my answer: it's not that we don't know what to do, it's that there's nothing to be done. We only hope that in death we may not be touched by the shadow.]
Based on Transcript #H666Op-C2, of Agent (?) with the Keeper of the Last Divine Archeology Library in Nowehere, we hereby recommend the genocide of humanity by merciful means. Based on data from the records of divine activity also attached in this report, the timeframe ought not exceed three years.
May we all be untouched by the shadow.
The devils greatest trick is convincing the world he didn’t exist? HA! His greatest trick was convincing us he lost and God is still in charge.

does that mean that the merch that came with volumes 8 and 9 are totally lost?? No other publisher can put out that merch?? (reading your comments in the other post)
Sorry i really don't know how works this 😓
Definitely no publisher other than Carrotoon can sell volumes 8 and 9's merch, of that I can assure you. The exclusive merch is designed by Spoon for the limited volumes (as she's probably contractually obligated to), they won't sell it outside of Korea. Most, if not all, of the non-korean merch (so really just the chinese merch, since we haven't seen whatever the german limited "cards" edition is) is actually just made from edited panels/illustrations, it's nothing brand new . The JP volumes don't have any merch.
I guess there's a chance Carrotoon will sell that merch individually in the future, which... would actually be really scummy, if you ask me. But I don't think that's very likely. That's one of the reasons why I am was so pissed off about the whole thing, it sucks to see Spoon's hard work be wasted like that.
I have never seen Seven Seas sell merch, so I wouldn't expect them to start doing it for WMMAP, but I guess the chance isn't 0? But I 100% guarantee you they won't sell the exact same korean limited editions (they have only announced one printed version for 20 USD anyways, and that's definitely not limited). The exclusivity is what justifies the price tag, and "limited" (not only in manhwa, just in general) is not just a buzzword, it has legal implications. So the best outcome I see is that they release new merch for the english version, but I don't wanna give anyone false hopes.

The Other Sister || D. Targaryen x oc
Tumblr media
GIF by @potpourri-of-ecclecticism DIVIDERS by @straywords
Summary: In which Elys’ older sister is to be wed to the Rogue Prince Daemon himself, however, the Prince’s gaze finds itself on her, and her only.
P.t 1 P.t 2 P.t 3 P.t 4
Tumblr media
“House Stark would be most honoured, your Grace.” Rickon Stark nods his head at King Viserys, “Cunt” A certain silver haired man mutters under his breath making the others glance at the King’s younger brother.
“Daemon, this betrothal would most benefit you. Especially after the death of your late Lady wife.” Viserys reasons with his brother who rolls his eyes. “Save me from all this bullshit please brother, I don’t need another depressing and boring marriage. If you even call it that.” He points to Viserys who massages his temple.
“I assure you my Prince, that my eldest Elaena, will not make you feel such loneliness as you did with Lady Royce.” Rickon intervenes as Daemon glares at the man.
Silence grew in the room before Daemon’s voice cuts through, “Fuck this.” He abruptly stands up as he downs his drink, “Daemon-“ “Gaomagon daor ivestragon mirrors lēkia” He warns his brother as the others at the small council bow their heads as the prince leaves the room. (do not say anything brother)
~
“I can’t believe this sister!” Elaena squeezes Elys’ hand as she softly smiles at the elder. Her father had informed Elaena of the arranged betrothal to the King’s brother, Daemon. Of course this was to happen soon enough. Elys’ sister, just as she is, is a proper high born who studied her whole life to become the perfect wife, a Princess or Queen even.
But Elys on the other hand, she’d rather spend her time outside, exploring, training in combat, much to her older sister’s dismay who urged the younger to study with her in topics such as ‘Words to avoid to not provoke your husband’ and so on.
“I only hope he treats you rightly, Elaena” Elys squeezes her hand this time, “Elys-“ “We are here my daughters,” Their father interrupts as the two sisters stick their heads out the carriage to see the bustling court of the Red Keep.
Elys gave an encouraging smile at her sister as she descends the steps with her following behind, the royal family stood close by. “Lord Stark!” King Viserys welcomes as their father steps forward.
“Your grace, may I introduce to you my two daughters, Lady Elaena and Lady Elys” The two girls both curtsy and offer a smile at the King who smiles too. Viserys was accompanied by his young wife, his heir and his kingsguard.
The younger Stark couldn’t help but notice the absence of a certain silver haired man, as did her father and sister. Catching on to the awkward silence, Viserys clears his throat before speaking, “Please excuse Daemon Lady Elaena, he has yet to come back from his duty at Dragonstone” He offers her a smile.
Being the well mannered and taught lady she was, she smiled politely before responding, “Of course your Grace, he is a prince who has duty to attend to does he not?” Elys glances at Elaena as Viserys nods, “Yes, he does indeed, Shall we?” He steps aside to let them through as they make it inside the castle.
Rhaenyra had offered the sisters a tour around the castle as it would be their home very soon. Elys could tell she would be a great company to have around the castle when Elaena spends alone time with her husband.
Both families made it into the dining area where Elys and her in-laws were to have lunch. Elaena’s soon to be husband has yet to arrive to which Viserys apologised for multiple times.
With plates full of food still untouched, and the occasional sips here and then, the large door opened revealing the Rogue Prince. Elys watches her sister who was directly left across from her on the table, the seat infront vacant for the Prince.
Elaena nervously took a sip of her drink as she makes eye contact with her younger sister, “Sorry I’m late” He unapologetically says as takes the seat next to Elaena, not sparring her a glance. Finally sat, his eyes lingered on Elys—too long for her liking, and then his brother.
Not noticing the interaction, Elaena looks at her sister wide eye as she shake her head. Although she was older, only by mere seconds, Elys seemed to have the higher authority in the dynamic, hence her reliance on her sometimes.
Rhaenyra, who had watched the ordeal, looks at the younger then her uncle with a small smirk. “Daemon, Lady Elaena, your soon to be Lady wife” Viserys says as Daemon briefly looks at Elaena who had her eyes on him the entire time in hopes to catch his eyes, only to meet them for less than a second.
“Gaomas ziry sesīr ȳdragon īlva ēngos?” He questions as he cuts his meat, Elaena looks up in worry. One thing she could not grasp was High Valaryian, something Elys mastered. Elaena deeply worried at this disadvantage but her sister reassured her that it would not matter. (Does she even speak our tongue)
A small scoff leaves Elys’ lips as she looks down at her plate, “Lady Elaena has yet to master High Valyrian, my Prince” Rickon explained as Daemon’s simply nods.
Feeling the tension rising, Alicent speaks up. “Would the Lady Elaena and Elys like a tour of our gardens?” She sweetly smiled as the two girls look at her. “I would love to your Grace, but I have training to do” Elys apologetically smiles before getting up.
“Excuse me, your Graces” She bows before kissing her father’s cheek and exiting the room, not knowing Daemon’s eyes were watching her the whole time.

cw: 18+ only, xiao/f!reader, law school au, enemies to lovers, rough sex, dumbification, degradation
wc: 2.5k
it was getting late. well, it got late about two hours ago. now midnight was approaching at an annoyingly fast rate. you were exhausted, xiao was irritable, and the report was nowhere near done. it was a miracle that no one had come by to lock up the study room for the night.
“this case doesn’t make any sense,” you griped, typing aggressively on your laptop. xiao sighed.
“you’ve said that three times in the last thirty minutes. i get it,” he said flatly. you shot him a look. your professor had to be some kind of sadist. you and xiao had hated each other since the first day of class. rarely did a lecture go by without the two of you arguing- whether it was about law or the color of the sky.
“read this,” you said, turning your laptop towards him. his eyes narrowed as he read over the report, which you’d rewritten twice now. he shook his head as he approached the end.
“your reasoning doesn’t make any sense. you’re just mentioning another case to make the holes in your argument look smaller,” he said. “and the fuck does the implied powers have to do with anything?”
you snatched your laptop back. “at least i’m putting ideas out there. you’ve been rereading it for, like, forty five minutes.”
he rolled his eyes. “right. why analyze the case to further understand it when you could just spew bullshit and pray something is right?”
you groaned in frustration. “this case is at least a century old. you’re not supposed to ‘further understand it.’ the whole point of the assignment is torture us mentally.”
“the whole point of the assignment is to challenge us,” he shot back, “something you will have to get used to if you want a fucking law career.”
you slammed your laptop shut. “i get it, you think i’m stupid-”
“i don’t think you’re stupid, i think you’re fucking lazy.”
you snorted, but there was no humor in it. “i’m lazy, but you haven’t written shit. got it.”
he stood. “listen, i’m sorry that you weren’t paired with your little boyfriend, but-”
“my little boyfriend?” you said, incredulous. “what are you even talking about?” you got to your feet, too. the two of you were ticking time bombs, trapped in each other’s space. as always.
“that ginger you sit next to. don’t act like i’m wrong,” he snapped, “you two are so fucking obvious.”
you laughed in disbelief. “jesus christ, you are such an asshole. his name is childe. you’ve known him an entire semester-”
xiao cut you off, “you’re unbearable around him. that stupid high pitched giggle you do? it gives me a fucking headache-”
“laughing at his jokes means i’m fucking him?” you didn’t even realize that you’d raised your voice.
“you dumb yourself down for him,” xiao said. “it’s infuriating. you can have anyone you want, why do you settle for that moron?”
“i’m not settling for him,” you hissed, “i don’t even talk to him outside of class! and so what if i fucking was? god forbid someone likes me, right? just because you hate me doesn’t mean the rest of the world does.”
something in his eyes changed. you suddenly realized how close your faces were. you must’ve gotten closer as your tempers escalated.
“you are stupid,” he said, softly. before your rage took hold, he continued, “i.. don’t hate you.”
you scoffed. “yeah, right,” you said, starting to back away. his hand caught your shoulder, gentle but firm. the earth stopped turning. he’d never looked at you like this before. like you were more than a nuisance. much more.
it clicked. oh.
“what did you mean by.. what you said a second ago?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper. “that i.. can ‘have anyone i want?’” your heart was beating fast, and it wasn’t caused by rage, this time.
for a moment, xiao looked vulnerable. “we don’t have to talk about this,” he whispered. “i know that we argue a lot, and i know that i can be a dick, but- i don’t hate you. i don’t.”
your heart was caught in your throat. “how do you feel about me?” you breathed.
his cheeks reddened. he clearly wasn’t used to being emotionally vulnerable, especially in front of you. “it’s complicated,” he said. “it’s not necessarily how i feel about you, but how you make me feel.”
a small smile creeped onto your lips. “well.. what are you involuntarily feeling?”
your smile seemed to relax him, if only slightly. he sighed. “i’ve been asking myself the same question for months. i mean, you always annoyed me- especially in the beginning. but, as time went on, i don’t know.. i started noticing little things.
“like the look in your eye when you’re winning an argument. or the one when you’re losing. how you bite your lip when you’re focused on something..” he trailed off. he looked up, finally meeting your eyes.
“like i said, it’s complicated,” he murmured. “but whatever i was feeling was.. warm. pleasant, even if i didn’t want it to be. then, you started hanging out with that childe guy, and these feelings went from warm to… hot. like a, a burning sensation, in my chest.”
just thinking about it seemed to frustrate him. “he made you laugh. you didn’t look at him like you wanted to kill him. i mean, you liked him. and i couldn’t stand it, because-”
he cut himself off, trying to muster up the courage to say whatever was about to come next. “i couldn’t stand that you would never see me the way you saw him.” his breathing was shaky. it made your heart ache.
your faces were so close.
“it drives me insane,” he continued. “you drive me insane. and i just want to-”
you cut him off, capturing his lips in a desperate, long-awaited kiss. he jumped at first, shocked, but melted into it before too long. his hands found themselves on your hips, gripping them firmly. pulling you closer to him. you tangled your fingers in his hair, relishing in the deep groan that escapes him when you tug on the strands.
he bit your lip as he pulled away, resting his forehead against yours. you whined and gasped for breath. you brought a hand to his cheek, brushing a piece of hair behind his ear. “you have no idea how long i’ve wanted to do that,” you whispered. his fingers dug into your waist.
“you’re not fucking childe?” he said. god, his eyes.
you shook your head.
“good.”
just like that, he was on you again. the kiss was rougher this time, hotter. teeth nipped at lips, tongues prodded at one another, hands made their way up your shirt. xiao pulled away briefly to remove it. he pushed you up against the desk as his lips chased yours once again. you had no objections, dizzy with lust.
he shoved a thigh between your legs and you moaned as he pressed it against you.
“god, look at you,” he whispered, his teeth against your neck. he moved his thigh, and you couldn’t stop your hips from grinding against it. there was an almost sinister look in his eye. it was sadistic, but adoring. your heart was fluttering in your chest.
“aw, baby,” he cooed, “i’ve hardly touched you. do you really need it that bad?” that condescending tone did something to you. a familiar fog was starting to form in your head. “i guess i should’ve seen this coming. smart girls like you love to be turned into dumb sluts in bed, right?”
a shiver ran down your spine. before you could respond, he moved his ground his thigh against you. an embarrassingly high pitched noise escaped your throat. “yeah, that’s what i thought,” xiao teased, sinking his teeth into your collarbone. your nails dug into his shoulder.
suddenly, he pulled away. you whined pitifully at the loss of contact, but the disappointment didn’t last long. your heart skipped a beat as you realized xiao had pulled away to take off his belt. that fog was getting hard to ignore.
he noticed you staring. “bend over the desk,” he commanded, “and hike up your skirt for me.”
as if your panties weren’t soaked enough before.
nervously, you bent yourself over the desk and pulled your skirt up, exposing the silk panties you had on underneath. they were genuinely comfortable. xiao picked a good day to confess.
you heard him inhale sharply behind you, taking you in. “fuck,” he whispered, running a hand up your thigh. you couldn’t help but squirm. “you’re already so wet i can see it through your panties. does it turn you on when i tell you what to do?”
two fingers traced the outline of your pussy over your panties. “or maybe it was the ‘dumb slut’ part, hmm?”
you moaned helplessly, wriggling your hips. “xiao, please,” you begged, “hurry up, i- i want it.”
“be patient,” he replied. you felt lips press against your inner thigh. your skin felt like it was on fire, his lips burning a trail everywhere they touched. you whimpered and squirmed, desperate.
“please, just- fucking get on with it,” you cried. your cunt was aching. you’d imagined xiao fucking you on shameful, lonely nights. especially on days like this, when the two of you had been at each other’s throats. and now it was here. real.
“god, please-”
“shut the fuck up, slut, or i’ll rip these panties off and gag you with them,” he growled. the fog won. you felt yourself melt into the desk, into submission. your hips stilled, and you bit your lip to keep from whining. every second that passed felt like a lifetime.
finally, he pulled your panties down, exposing your dripping sex. you gasped at the sensation of cold air against you. it only made you feel hotter.
he ran his middle and index finger up and down your folds, maddeningly slow. god, it was hard to keep quiet. you could hardly think about anything but xiao, xiao’s fingers, xiao’s dick.
you couldn’t stop yourself from moaning out loud when his fingers began to circle your clit. they were slow and gentle; you needed them to be more.
“you’re so beautiful,” xiao whispered. you hung on to his every word. “i want to take my time with you, and i promise i will, later.. but right now, i can’t help myself.” he took your wrists into one hand, holding them behind your back. he leaned forward, his lips brushing against your ear as he continued, “i’m going to fuck you senseless.”
you cried out as he plunged two fingers inside you, thrusting in and out roughly. it was a relief, but it wasn’t enough. you tried to grind your hips onto his fingers to no avail. “and you’re going to take what i give you, aren’t you, baby?” he said, kissing a particularly sensitive spot behind your ear.
“because you’re my good, stupid slut.” he added a third finger and curled them inside you, finally hitting the sweet spot he’d been searching for. you let out a low moan at the sensation. “you think you’re so smart, but look at you. trying to fuck yourself on my fingers. if i’d known this is all it takes to shut you up, i would’ve done this a long time ago.”
you mumbled out a pathetic, incoherent moan. you couldn’t even argue with him, you were so desperate.
“it’s okay, pretty girl,” he whispered. “i’ve got you. i’ll give you what you want. you just have to ask.”
you knew what that meant. “please,” you begged, “please- fuck me, xiao! i want it so bad, i’m so..” you trailed off, trying to hang on to your train of thought as he twisted his fingers inside you. your sentence became a string of incoherent please’s.
luckily for you, xiao was nearing the limit of his control. “good girl,” he said. you heard shuffling behind you as he positioned himself, the tip of his cock pressing against the entrance to your cunt. his grip on your wrists tightened. “take a deep breath, baby.”
he thrust his hips forward and finally, he was inside you. it stung at first, but you adjusted quickly. when he felt you relax, he pulled your wrists toward him, using them as leverage to better fuck into you.
“oh, thank you, thankyouthankyouthankyou,” you moaned, relishing in the feeling of him brushing against your g-spot. every thrust had you seeing stars.
“fuck, you feel so good,” xiao hissed, picking up the pace. he pressed kisses down your spine. “so pretty, such a good girl. you like being fucked rough like this, baby? is this what you needed?”
you let out another string of whimpers, nodding desperately. “it’s so good,” you slurred, “i’m close.”
he released your wrists to grab your forearm, pulling you up, against his chest. this angle was somehow better than the last, directly targeting that sweet spot he’d only been brushing before. “oh, yes! right there!” you cried.
xiao let out a growl, fucking you harder than before. “that’s right, you stupid slut. fucking take it,” he snarled, biting into your neck. “you wanna cum?”
you nodded feverishly, no longer bothering to quiet the little noises he forced out of you with each thrust. “yes, god, please,” you begged, tears beginning to form in your eyes.
he suddenly pulled out and flipped you onto your back, thrusting inside you again without missing a beat. you grabbed onto his shoulders, trying to stay grounded. “tell me what you are,” he said, hardly louder than a whisper.
your cheeks were burning. you knew what he meant. in any other circumstance, you would’ve fought him on it, or at least tried to. but you’d never had dick this good in your life. you weren’t about to disobey him.
a thumb hovered above your clit. “tell me what you are,” he repeated, his gaze unwavering. you couldn’t resist him if you tried.
“i’m a dumb slut!” you cried, tears running freely now. he brought his thumb down, rubbing in time with his quick, rough thrusts. your eyes rolled back as you came, cunt clenching down desperately, legs shaking around his waist.
xiao was quick to follow, cumming inside you with a low, gravelly groan as he pulled your hips against him. you whined at the feeling.
as he came down, he pressed his lips to yours again, much gentler than he had earlier. you kissed him back, slowly gathering your bearings.
when you pull away, he peppers your cheeks with light kisses. “you were so good,” he whispered, “so good for me.” you hummed happily, capturing his lips once more.
he pulled out of you, much to your dismay. before you could demand another round, you were hit with a sudden realization. “oh, fuck,” you said, frantically pulling your shirt over your head.
his eyes widened and he put a hand on your arm. “what is it? what’s wrong?” he asked, sounding genuinely concerned. it was a cute look on him.
“the fucking case report,” you grumbled.
he grinned and gently tugged you back to his chest. “don’t worry. i can fix your half in, like, thirty minutes.”
you shot him an annoyed but amused look. “you’re an asshole,” you said. he pressed a kiss to your nose.
“you love it,” he replied.
and you did.

“Hey, I don’t care if Fast and Furious was a biopic for you, right now, you’re a model citizen. Best way to blend in, to essentially not exist.” Something Reagan had learned in a myriad of ways, and was constantly putting into practice. “…It sort of is when you’re a mutant. Think about it this way - I mean, intent is involved, right? Isn’t that part of how crimes are judged? I don’t know, there’s a Law and Order rerun on every minute of every day, so I’m sure they could give you an answer. Point being, I knew that I was taking risks stopping to eat with someone else. Talking to someone else. I just… I hadn’t eaten in a while, and aside from all the questions that made you think being a mutant is exciting vs. the bullshit that it actually is, I like talking to you. But I’m not going argue with you - the Purifiers are the worst. And they’re getting bolder. Used to just be a bunch of assholes who would harass you. Do property damage. Chase you out of town. Now… They’re getting more and more weapons, and we’re not talking about the shit that ordinary citizens have access to, we’re talking government-level. Wouldn’t be surprised if they were starting to work together. Basically free labor - risking random people instead of their agents.” As for him telling her that he was basically wasting his hard-earned and carefully saved money on her, she shook her head, “I’ll pay you back. I don’t know how, but I’ll figure something out.”
Tumblr media
“What gave you that impression?” Reagan shot back, although there was a small smirk tugging at her lips to show that they were all good. “And I get what you’re saying. I mean, as a whole, yeah, from an outsider’s perspective, abilities like these are amazing. Until you read the fine print. Until the first time they make themselves known and scare the ever-living shit out of you. …Until they get your twin brother murdered… Until they stop working right because your powers were tied into his, but the Purifiers and the government don’t care. They still see you as a threat, even though you just - I don’t know, want to see your parents again, and eat an entire container of cheesepuffs in one sitting, and paint for hours on end.” She then shook her head, “I was, too. I’d heard of mutants but… I didn’t think about the shit they went through. It didn’t personally affect me. And powers aren’t all bad - or at least they weren’t at the beginning. I had a lot of fun. I just - I worry now. What if that fun got us caught? What if it’s the reason government agents showed up on our doorstep…?” She trailed off before assuring him, “Apology accepted. And agreed - Purifiers fucking suck.”
He kept listening to her story, shaking his head more and more the more fucked up it got.
“Jesus. I feel like I’ve been living under a fucking rock. I had no idea any of this even existed. Now I definitely feel like a dick for earlier. Fuck all of this” he replied, and after a moment of letting it all sink in, Lance rolled down the window a bit because he needed some fresh air.
“Hey, don’t mention it. Gives me enough incentive to put in some more work and do projects that actually pay some good money. Y’know, instead of the whole creative and artsy shit I like to get entangled with these days. I’ll have earned it back in no time.” Now he was chuckling a bit, because it was well true. He’d been putting it off for a while, focused on a lot of passion projects for his studies, but he knew it was the mix of artsy and commercial that did the trick in a career like the one he wanted.
“Hell, I don’t know. Blame the remnants of my boring upbringing in the exurbs. Most exciting thing to ever happen there was when the neighbor cut down a tree in their backyard and it missed someone else’s garage by an inch or something. Compare that to fucking telekinesis and what not..pretty easy to see where it all comes from” he went on, only to take a deep breath, look at her for a second, then look away again.
“I’m sorry about your brother. Don’t know what else to say. Just...sorry” Lance muttered, visibly affected by the true extend of danger to her life.  “Yeah, they absolutely do. And I really hope you blame them for what happened to your brother. Not yourself.”
Silence followed for a while after that, and soon enough, they reached the next town. After a moment of consideration, Lance didn’t pull into any parking spot just yet though, looked at her somewhat questionably instead.
Tumblr media
“I don’t know about you, but after everything you’ve told me, I don’t feel like this is far enough away from all that crazy shit back home. Do you want to keep going? I can keep driving for a while. Not gonna lie. Kinda therapeutic to be honest.”

MC’s Half Demon and They Look Awfully Familiar
(Part 3! Starring Mini Mammon and Mini Asmo!)
Part 1 Part 2 Lessons 1-5 Underground Tomb special Group Retreat Lessons 10-12 Part 4
MC names:
Lucifer’s kid=L!MC | Mammon’s kid=M!MC | Asmo’s kid=A!MC
Why did bad things happen to good people? Well... Lucifer being a good person is up to interpretation. He hadn’t done anything too heinous recently, his instruments of torture were collecting dust for goodness sake! So why oh why was he staring down two half demon children who looked suspiciously like two of his brothers?
The first kid to step forward was Mammon’s without a doubt, but their general demeanour was very different from their father’s. Perhaps their other parent had done a good job-
“What the fuck was that?!”
Never mind. The kid had Mammon’s pottymouth.
The other child surveyed the scene with a nervousness that their suspected parent never possessed. The kid’s gaze fell on Lucifer, their eyes began to glow ever so slightly. “Uh-um...” the kid cleared their throat. “Someone explain what’s going on!”
Was this child seriously trying to use manipulation powers on Lucifer? He almost laughed at the mere idea of someone trying. The child didn’t even seem to be aware that they were doing it. When their question was met with blank stares, they instantly shrank back and practically hid behind the first half demon. Despite the severe self-esteem difference, this kid was Asmodeus’.
Lucifer’s own child cleared their throat and smiled. “Welcome to the Devildom!”
The Uncle That Looks Like he Has his Shit Together but he Leaves the Reunion Drunk off his Rocker (Lucifer)
Ah shit here we go again-
Okay- okay. Normally he’d scold L!MC for taking Diavolo’s line, but Dia had recovered from his shock and was now gushing over the new exchange students like an excited puppy.
“Okay... L!MC you’re going to need to share your room.”
“What?! Why?!”
“Unless Belphie is willing to give up the attic as a nap spot-”
“OVER MY DEAD BODY!”
“You’re sharing your room.”
RAD was buzzing with gossip for the entire first month of the second attempt at the exchange program. The threats of being eaten were once again stamped out very quickly.
(Special thanks to L!MC for being a good bodyguard)
Now, Lucifer didn’t exactly know what to expect when it came to the child of his favourite brother. Mammon was a dumbass, but this kid... this kid...
Was smart.
For the first time in Lucifer’s very long life he felt compelled to place someone in a higher echelon than himself.
Mammon’s child managed to successfully budget that dumpster fire of a house. On the first fucking day. Not only that. This kid managed to skim FIVE THOUSAND GRIMM OFF THE TOP AND THE BUDGET STILL WORKED! WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT-
Lucifer and Mammon thanked whatever spirit was watching over them because they truly believed their financial woes were over.
Shame that M!MC also spent their money on dumb stuff they didn’t need. Like father like child.
It’s no secret that Lucifer does have a bit of a soft spot for Asmo, I mean, who doesn’t love Asmo? But A!MC was a blessing sent right from the Celestial Realm.
They were just... too sweet. Way too sweet. Lucifer was actively getting cavities just being near them.
Anyone who bothered A!MC and M!MC during the first month ended up getting... uh... suspended.
(We can assume the threat of suspension would have extended to those who bothered L!MC but all the lesser demons were already terrified of them.)
Normally when Lucifer called someone into his study it was to lecture them for at least four hours and then send them to their rooms, but he was having quite the difficult time actually being upset with M!MC and A!MC.
A!MC looked close to tears and M!MC just stared right back at Lucifer with little to no fear in their eyes.
“Starting a fight during the first week of school is not how I expected the exchange students to behave.” Lucifer pinched the bridge of his nose, and prepared to continue the lecture, when he heard a sniffle. There wasn’t enough Demonus in the entire Devildom...
“I-I’m s—sorry...” A!MC sniffled, quickly wiping at their eyes. “Th-they were being r-really scary and we did-didn’t know what else to do...”
“So you threw them out of a window?”
“I threw them out of the window.” M!MC huffed. “They were bein’ a dick.”
“So you threw them out of a window?”
“That um...” A!MC mumbled. “That’s not all... I may have... told them to stick their head in a toilet first...”
“You made them stick their head in a toilet,” Lucifer turned to M!MC. “And then you threw them out of a window?”
“Yes.” M!MC and A!MC replied. Lucifer downed the rest of his glass of Demonus and debated whether or not it would be a show of weakness to slam his forehead into the desk in front of the children.
Lucifer looked between the two for a moment, then shook his head and sighed. “It’s my job to deal with threats to the exchange students, not yours.” Lucifer stood in front of the two, he rested his hands on their heads and gave them a quick pat, before knocking their heads together. “Next time someone bothers you, tell me. If I hear even a whisper of you two getting into another fight, I’m hanging you from the ceiling. Is that clear?”
A!MC and M!MC looked at each other, then back at Lucifer and nodded. “Yes sir!”
“Good.” Lucifer removed his hand from their heads. “Now shoo.”
Flying lessons for the two of them went way quicker than it did for L!MC, mainly because L!MC was a way better teacher.
As much as Lucifer loved his newly found niblings, he couldn’t show it too much. Outward softness was reserved for L!MC and L!MC only. M!MC and A!MC were stuck with silent acts of affection.
Every once and a while a little present or two would end up in M!MC or A!MC’s possession. Some ice cream money for M!MC when they blew their part of the budget on fancy sunglasses, a multiplayer video game that the three half-demons could play together, new shoes when A!MC accidentally ruined their’s...
He’s a good uncle. A scary uncle. But a good uncle. ^_^
(Don’t tell him I said that, I’m still in trouble for advertising Mammon’s escape Go Fund Me and I don’t want to have to write the rest of this HC hanging upside down.)
He’s Not Like the Other Dads, he’s a Cool Dad! (Mammon)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (Fear)
He’s a dad?! HE’S TO YOUNG TO BE A DAD! Hang on- he’s over five thousand years old...
Oh would you look at that! His kid pulled out a calculator.
...his annual income? Uh... why do you- HEY! WHAT’S WITH THAT FACE?!
M!MC puffed out their cheek as they continued to add the ever growing list of numbers into the calculator. Mammon was trying to get a peak at what they were calculating. M!MC suddenly looked up and practically lit up the room with their smile. Aw, their fangs were growing in!
They had a devilishly charming smile, just like their pop! A real chip off the old block! It almost brought a tear to Mammon’s eye and he actually felt compelled to give this kid all the money he had on him. Maybe even his Rolex too!
“Mammon, Avatar of Greed,” M!MC said sweetly. “My... dad.”
“Yep! That’s uh... that’s me!” Mammon awkwardly ruffled his kid’s hair, the kid laughed good naturedly.
M!MC’s sweet as honey smile flipped from elated to malicious in a manner of nanoseconds. “You owe over thirteen years of child support. Dad.”
Everyone say thank you to Lucifer and Diavolo for getting M!MC to compromise and not try and sue their father.
If you thought Mammon spoiled L!MC you’ve got another thing coming. Mammon’s wallet never stood a chance against his kid.
Poor Goldie, press F to pay respects.
Mammon also tried to teach A!MC and M!MC to drive, M!MC has no regard for their safety, the safety of others, or the laws of the road, buuuuuuuut they manage to get the car back with no dents and no property damage bills are being delivered to the house sooooo...
A!MC can drive fine... it’s just that they adhere to literally every law known to demonkind, which means neither Mammon or Asmo are allowed to open up the sunroof and do that movie thing where they pop their heads out and yell something. ITS NOT SAFE!
Our beloved dummy also tried to teach his kid how to play poker, with... limited success.
“Aw, come on kiddo.” Mammon smirked, flicking his kid on the nose. “Your poker face is awful, I can also see your cards from here.”
M!MC growled and held their cards closer to their face. “My poker face is fine!” It was in fact, not fine.
Mammon scratched his head and thought for a moment. Was he sure that this kid was his? I mean, they weren’t good at poker, had terrible luck in blackjack and roulette, and could barely understand the rules of craps. Craps! While he was lamenting the loss of possible gambling winnings, an idea hit Mammon at a thousand miles an hour.
“Hey kid, you’re damn good at math like your great and amazin’ father, have you ever thought about learnin’ how to count cards?”
Fancy outfits on, hair done (sorta), car ready, the two were off to the casino after quite the intense training montage. It appeared that casinos in the Devildom allowed children inside... Diavolo should really fix that.
“Okay M!MC, you remember what to do, right?”
“Yes. Remember the signal, and if someone catches on, deny deny deny.”
Mammon gave his kid a slap on the back. “Damn straight! You got this, bud.”
As the night dragged on, M!MC and Mammon had made their weight in money, paper money, they had made a SHIT ton is what I’m saying. Tragically, neither the Avatar of Greed or his child had any sense to leave before their luck crashed like the Stock Market in 1929.
They were both Icarus, and they were playing chicken with the sun... and by 3 am they were also playing chicken with security.
“GO GO GO!” Mammon shouted as he and M!MC sprinted towards the car, the night’s winnings in hand.
“I think I lost a shoe!” M!MC gasped as they scrambled into the car, security on their heels.
“I’ll buy you new shoes JUST PUT ON YOUR SEATBELT!”
Re-enacting every Fast and the Furious movie in twenty minutes was how that lovely night of father/child bonding should have ended... until they got home and realized they were locked out.
“The window to my room!” M!MC whispered, pointing up at their window. “It’s usually unlocked, we can climb up to get to it.”
“Good idea!”
M!MC tucked the bag full of their precious money under their arm and began the climb to their window, their father close behind. They had almost made it, they were so close, M!MC could literally touch the window-
The window swung open and the smiling faces of L!MC and A!MC greeted them.
“Oh my, it looks like we have some delinquents breaking curfew~.” L!MC cooed, resting their head on their hand.
“You shouldn’t be gambling this late! A-and your accessories don’t match!” A!MC huffed.
“Oi! L!MC, A!MC! What are ya doin’ up this late! It’s not good for ya!” Mammon whisper-yelled.
“My sleep schedule should be the least of your concerns right now, right A!MC?” L!MC elbowed A!MC, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Yep! Those who break curfew are hung from the ceiling by their toes.” A!MC shuddered.
M!MC rolled their eyes and stuck out their hand. “Come on L!MC! Let us in! You should listen to your older cousin!”
Upon hearing M!MC pull the older cousin card L!MC smiled deviously, grabbing both of M!MC’s hands. “Of course, dear cousin.” They leaned in. “Long live the king!”
L!MC shoved M!MC downward, Mammon caught them, but lost his own grip and they both lost hold of the money, which fell out of the bag and onto the ground like snow. Paper snow...
Oh well, at least Mammon and M!MC landed in some of the bushes...
“Ya know,” Mammon said as the money fell around them. “I’ve had dreams where this has happened.”
“Wow,” M!MC smiled. “Me too!”
Yep. This was his kid alright.
Not all his father/kid time revolved around money, it also revolved around both of them trying to avoid horror movie night without making it look like they were chickening out.
“Okay, I’ll fake a medical emergency!”
“Kid, no! They’ll never believe that!”
Since A!MC had their father’s eye for fashion and none of the judgemental comments, the kid became Mammon’s unofficial style coach.
“U-um... I hate to say it but those shoes don’t match with the rest of the outfit, the silhouette is confusing...”
“What’re ya talkin’ about? I look fantastic!”
“Are you blind? You look like a thrift store threw up on you.”
“Who invited you, Asmo?!”
“I’m here to support A!MC! You’re doing great by the way, sweetie!”
He may have cried a little when M!MC was able to fly without help... sniffle... they grow up so fast...
Oh- oh fuck they both crashed into the tree-
Oh My God he Actually Showed Up?! (Levi)
That... that couldn’t be real life! A shut-in’s worst nightmare! More people he needed to talk to!
Considering Mammon and Asmo’s track record with taking care of his things, Levi was incredibly hesitant to invite the two to binge anime with him and L!MC.
It seemed that the two normies inherited their fathers’s level of respect for closed doors. What I’m saying is the two crashed anime night.
“I have never seen such bullshit before.”
M!MC’s hands were stuffed in about five pairs of socks each, effectively turning their hands into useless nubs.
“You be quiet! This is to make sure that you don’t take any of my things and try and sell them on Akuzon!” Levi hissed, turning back to make sure his figurines were safe from the mini Mammon. A!MC was standing awkwardly next to L!MC, who was sitting in Levi’s gaming chair reading manga.
“So what are we going to watch..?” A!MC piped up. “I haven’t really watched much anime but I did watch Digimon...”
“I was more of a Beyblade kid.” M!MC hit their sock-stumps together to make a thumping noise.
Levi looked like he was ready to have a stroke. “L-listen! Those are gateway anime! You two need to watch proper anime! Non-dubbed anime!”
A!MC let out a shriek and stared at their reflection in a very shiny looking gundam figurine. “Have I been wearing off colour lip gloss the entire day?! O-oh no... I’m a mess!”
Levi let out a strangled wail and snatched the gundam out of A!MC’s hands. “D-don’t touch that! It’s worth more than a house!”
“It is?!” M!MC perked up and tried to wrestle their way out of their sock-gloves.
“Don’t make me stick you in a straight jacket...” Levi growled. He turned to L!MC with a pleading look on his face. “Please make them stop...”
L!MC grinned deviously and closed their book. “Of course I’ll help you, if we watch season two of The Promised Neverland.”
Levi shrieked and nearly pulled out his hair then and there. “It’s manga divergent! MANGA DIVERGENT! THEY SKIPPED SO MANY ARCS!”
M!MC and A!MC continued to wreak both purposeful and accidental havoc on Levi’s room, he was just about ready to summon Lotan then and there when L!MC shrugged.
“The ball’s in your court, Levi.” L!MC leaned back in the chair and resumed reading their manga.
Levi’s willpower shattered the moment he heard something fall off one of his cabinets. “WE CAN WATCH WHATEVER YOU WANT JUST MAKE THEM STOOOOOP!”
Quick as a flash, L!MC was out of the chair and had both M!MC and A!MC by the ears.
“HEY!” L!MC growled. “STOP ACTING LIKE IDIOTS OR SO HELP ME GRANDFATHER YOU TWO WON’T LIVE TO SEE GRADUATION!”
M!MC and A!MC became the most well behaved children in the Devildom after that... and L!MC and Levi got to watch their anime in peace.
Okay, Levi wasn’t heartless, he loved his lame normie niblings. They were just very very loud...
Though, M!MC was very good at finding merch for way lower prices... and A!MC actually really liked some of the anime they watched... Maybe they weren’t so bad.
M!MC’s attempts to budget that financial dumpster fire of an otaku was not going well, at least until M!MC convinced Lucifer to dangle concert tickets in front of Levi like a carrot on a stick until he agreed to do his best to stay within the monthly budget.
Levi had learned his lesson from L!MC’s flying lessons and steered clear of them, but luck was not on his side. The ONE time he willingly stepped outside of the house...
Both M!MC and A!MC crashed right into him.
The Uncle With the Cat You Never See and Aren’t Really Allowed to Pet. (Satan)
Oh fuck him sideways the house was going to be so much louder... Say goodbye to his quiet reading time...
On the bright side, the look of pure disbelief and exhaustion on Lucifer’s face gave Satan the biggest rush of serotonin he’d ever had in his life.
To be honest, he got on well with Asmo, and he... well it’s Mammon.
Could have been worse.
Could have been ANOTHER child of Lucifer.
“So... who do you think did it?” M!MC asked as the opening to the fourth episode of the murder documentary they were watching began. “I think it was the sister.”
“On what evidence do you make that assumption?” Satan asked.
M!MC shrugged. “Chick’s shifty.”
“I um... I think they disappeared on their own accord.” A!MC murmured. “I mean, so far it seemed the two’s home lives sucked...”
“Good theory.” Satan nodded to himself. “But both of you are wrong, it was very clearly the mother and the neighbour.”
“On what evidence do you make that assumption?” L!MC asked, imitating Satan’s voice. Detective Toe Beans was sprawled out on their lap.
Satan glowered at L!MC and leaned over to scratch Bean behind the ears. “The step-mother and neighbour are backing up each other’s alibis and they have a motive, access to a possible murder weapon, and a way of disposing of the corpses.”
L!MC rolled their eyes. “That’s a load of crap. It was just the step-mother. The mother had the motive, she and the father were on the outs, she wanted the father’s inheritance all to herself so she got rid of his kids.”
“How many more episodes of this are there?” M!MC asked. “This seems like a really dragged out way of just saying: I don’t know.”
“Sh! They’re explaining possible corpse disposal methods!” Satan hissed.
The four of them traded theories until the documentary series eventually ended with an unsatisfying ‘we dunno’.
“This is such shit...” M!MC muttered. “How have they managed to fill eight episodes with all these leads and evidence and the case is still unsolved?!”
“It’s because everyone involved was incompetent and stupid.” Satan sighed.
“You know,” L!MC smirked. “With all the true crime stuff the four of us watch, we could create the perfect crime.”
“We really could.” M!MC nodded in agreement.
“Using A!MC’s powers no one would suspect us...” Satan rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“Uh...” A!MC shifted uncomfortably. “On an unrelated note... I’m going to go...”
As A!MC scampered out of the room, L!MC turned to Satan and M!MC.
“There’s always the one weak person in the group who’s not down with murder.”
“A sad truth.”
“Hang on I thought we were talking about theft or something-”
Satan and M!MC are surprising study buddies, hell, they even help Mammon study. Or... it’s more accurate to say that they try to help Mammon study.
A!MC is good company, they’re quiet when they read, unlike most people in the house who felt the need to provide commentary on every single event that occurs in the book.
After proving to be quite useless in L!MC’s flight lessons, he just reminded the two new half demons to wear protective padding.
The Hot Single Dad That’s In Every Romcom That Features a Child (Asmo)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (excitement)
Oh... his... father... HE WAS A DILF NOW-
He practically vaulted out of his seat to coo and fuss over his new found hellspawn, they were just SO CUTE!
Their wings were just like his! So adorable! Oh and those little horns! They were so cute Asmo just might have combusted then and there.
Of course, he couldn’t combust without finding out which of his flings had made such an adorably shy mini-him.
“Ah! I remember that party!” Asmo squee-ed as he looked at a picture of A!MC’s parent. “They looked so hot in that outfit I swear I was completely-”
“Asmodeus.” Lucifer grumbled. “That’s a child in front of you.”
“Oh! Right! Mind if I call your ren, A!MC?” Asmo asked, ruffling their kid’s hair. “I want to see if they remember me fondly!”
As Asmo chattered with A!MC’s parent about just how adorable and perfect their kid turned out, Asmo leaned over to A!MC to ask a question.
“A!MC, I know this is sudden but how do you feel about getting a sib-”
“ASMODEUS IF YOU FINISH THAT SENTENCE I WILL FEED YOU TO CERBERUS!”
“Tsk. Rude.”
It’s safe to say Asmo adores his kid. I mean, they’re 50% him, how could he not.
He didn’t exactly have experience with the whole... being a big part of his kids’s life thing. Sure he held the unofficial record for most kids but that was because effective birth control hadn’t been invented at the time when he was allowed to run rampant in the human world, not because he was an A+ dad.
None of that mattered! He was going to be a 10/10 dad to A!MC!
They were so shy... so... mouse-like...
“Um... dad?” A!MC awkwardly twiddled there thumbs as they stood in the doorway to their father’s room. The sweet smell of whatever essential oil was being spread with the diffuser did next to nothing to calm the poor half-demon’s nerves.
Asmo popped his head out of his walk-in closet with a sparkling smile. “Yes, child of mine?”
“I um, just wanted to ask...” A!MC was desperately trying to stave off an oncoming stutter-spiral. “H-h-how- *ahem* how do- ugh...”
A!MC steeled their face and straightened their posture.
“How do I be confident like you?!” They blurted that out a little too loud for comfort, but Asmo’s near-immediate joy quashed any embarrassment A!MC was feeling.
“You want to be like little ol’ me?” Asmo gushed, clearly trying to hide just how flattered he was. “Well, of course you do! Your dad’s got your back. So first what we’re going to do-”
The Avatar of Lust had done the stereotypical early 2000s movie makeover many times before, but never with so much enthusiasm. His kid’s style was fine, it wasn’t a lack of pizazz either, it was the lack of confidence in the pizazz.
“Okay, now stand up straight.”
A!MC straightened their back as much as they could.
“Perfect! Chin up, shoulders back, and there you go!”
A!MC didn’t look too different on account that Asmo felt like their fashion sense was perfect, but dear not-old dad coached MC on a new walk, better posture, and Asmo filled their arms with about seven boxes of self-care supplies.
“What’s all this for?” A!MC asked, shifting the weight of the boxes slightly so they could actually see their dad.
“That, A!MC, is all the stuff you need to have confidence.” Asmo explained. “It’s not required of course, but it sure does help.”
“I’m not sure I follow...”
“Oh sweetie, it’s simple really. When you take care of yourself, you feel better, and when you feel better, you look better, and when you look better and feel better, your confidence skyrockets!” Asmo shifted some of the boxes A!MC was carrying around so they could stand up straighter and not be held down by the weight of the self-care arsenal. “Good posture stops your back from hurting, dressing decently helps you feel better about your appearance, as does taking care of your skin, aaaaaand all this will culminate in you being your best!”
A!MC still looked a bit skeptical, but they nodded anyway.
“Remember MC!” Asmo said as he led MC back to their room to help them sort their new stuff. “Confidence in yourself doesn’t happen overnight, so don’t let Mammon try and sell you a fix-all potion because it’s just boiled Gatorade.”
“O-okay- wait did you just say-”
“Yes, boiled Gatorade.” Asmo shuddered. “Let’s not talk about that.”
Dear uncle Asmo? A financial dumpster fire?! It’s more likely than you’d think.
Sure, Asmo’s got a job and makes his own money, but Geez Louise... one demon does not need that much hand cream! Or that many questionable Akuzon packages that everyone is too afraid to touch...
M!MC had their work cut out for them is what I’m trying to say.
Of course... once M!MC realized what a lost cause getting Asmo to stop with the obsessive bath bomb purchases was and a few too many insults were thrown at M!MC’s dear dad... some of Asmo’s things went uh... “missing”
But would you look at that! No one went over-budget!
Even though their dads have a fierce party related rivalry, A!MC and M!MC get along great. It’s very wholesome.
The Uncle That Helps You Pester Whoever is in Charge of the Food at the Family Reunion About Dessert (Beel)
Yay! More kids :)
Do you think any of them know how to cook? No? Okay... :(
Beel adores his new niblings with all his heart and soul, and Belphie’s out of the attic and is able to meet them with everyone else this time! Yay!
I didn’t mention this in the other parts- but Beel totally gave L!MC piggyback rides whenever they asked, but now that two more kids have arrived... it’s now a fight to be tall.
But yea- kids like uncle Beel. Strong contender for favourite uncle.
“Do you think this is right?” A!MC asked as they fiddled with the settings on the stovetop.
“No clue. Do we put the cheese on while the meat is cooking or do we wait until after?” M!MC asked, they flipped through multiple cheeseburger recipes on their DDD, their frustration growing. “Hang on- do we have a deep fryer?”
A!MC rummaged around the cupboards and shelves for a good fifteen minutes and came back empty handed. “No, but I’ve seen videos of people making fries without a deep fryer, I think we just need to heat up vegetable oil and drop the potatoes in.”
After setting up the make-shift deep fryer, the two cousins carefully dropped the first fry into the oil, then screamed like banshees when some oil splashed close to their hands.
“Did you get burned?!” M!MC asked, A!MC shook their head.
“No, you?”
“Nah...” M!MC eyed the oil warily. “We should do this one at a time to be safe...”
It was an awkward process, grab potato, place potato, scream, make sure no one is burned, repeat. As... decent as the process was, with both of them manning the deep fryer, no one was manning the patties that were now completely charred.
“What’s going on in here? It smells like Solomon’s cooking.” Beel poked his head into the kitchen and saw two very upset children and the world’s messiest kitchen.
“We’re failures. That’s all...” M!MC murmured.
“We wanted to make lunch for all of us and we ruined it...” A!MC added.
Beel’s heart was set to explode then and there- but his stomach growled. “You tried your best, don’t feel too bad. Let’s get cheeseburgers somewhere else with Belphie.”
M!MC and A!MC nodded enthusiastically as the three of them left the destroyed kitchen behind them.
After Beel had to sling a sleeping Belphie over his shoulder, the now four of them were halfway out the door before they heard L!MC scream bloody murder.
“YOU IDIOTS COME BACK HERE AND CLEAN THIS MESS UP RIGHT NOW!”
M!MC and A!MC made eye contact, then sprinted out the door. “CHEESEBURGERS FIRST!”
A!MC and M!MC probably go to all of Beel’s games like the little super fans they are. Beel is very grateful for the support! :D
Flying lessons? Nnnnnot again. He’s here for moral support and moral support only. And to catch the two babs when they inevitably fall.
The Uncle Who Was Like... Really Racist the Last Time You Saw Him But He’s Not Anymore (Belphie)
So he uh... he didn’t try and kill these two. That already gave the two newbies a better first impression than what he gave to L!MC.
The Anti Lucifer league ALSO grew, just by one member though. A!MC was very easily persuaded to snitch on whatever prank the group concocted.
The attic nap club gained two new members, but Belphie still had to deal with wings hitting him in the face and waking him up. He’d usually return the favour with a swat from his tail.
“M!MC I swear I will throw you out of the window if you kick me again.” Belphie murmured, mashing his face into his pillow.
“Mmmph.” M!MC threw a pillow in Belphie’s direction.
“Quit whining, Belphie.” L!MC huffed. “You’re doing better than me.”
A!MC had attached themselves to L!MC like a sloth to a tree and would not let go or stop drooling. Ah schadenfreude, the best feeling in the galaxy...
“Stop with that look.” L!MC hissed, Belphie snickered. “I’m telling you to quit it because you’ll wake up Beel, and Beel is solving your M!MC problem.”
Belphie turned to see Beel practically crush M!MC into a bone breaking hug in his sleep.
“Should we do something about that?” L!MC yawned.
Belphie smirked his little douchebag smirk. “Eh, let them stew for a few more minutes.”
“Help me...” M!MC rasped.
Out of the three, A!MC is probably the best nap buddy, they bring in their own pillows and don’t hog the blankets.
Belphie is once again at the forefront for taking videos of the flying lessons, at least till M!MC accidentally broke Belphie’s DDD.
Just a friendly reminder, the sleepy cow man would kill for these kids.
Look at them funny and no one will find your body.
Okay! That’s part 3 done! I had to cut Belphie’s and Satan’s short because of post limit stuff, but the stuff with the side characters is coming soon! Also, Mammon would like me to inform all those who donated to his Go Fund Me that you will NOT be getting your money back, he has a kid to deck out in full Gucci now, he needs the cash!

Hi! I saw on a post that you're agender and I'm kinda questioning my gender (again) but what interested me more about that post was that you said you believe that gender is a social construct and I'm not really familiar with that theory. I was wondering if you could explain to me what the whole idea is? (bc I kinda only feel like a have a gender in social situations? In my head, my dreams and how I picture myself in the future, I'm genderless idjskahwksjejensj) Sorry for bothering you if I did.
This is a BIG topic and it opens a LOT of wormholes.
We’re gonna do this in pie slice statements that will hopefully help explain what I mean. Please keep in mind I’m going to simplify many things for the sake of readability.
1) What is a social construct?
Social constructs are ideas that are negotiated by social groups. Something being a social construct does not make it ‘not real’.
For example, money is a social construct. Yes, we have cash - coins, credit cards - but these are physical props that are REPRESENTATIVE of the idea of currency. You have some form of credit to your name - the money is a socially agreed-upon idea of value being represented by bills in your hand, by numbers in your bank account.
Tumblr media
[Description: Two humanoid figures are standing side by side. The right-side figure is holding a rock in its hand.
Right side figure: Let’s agree that this shiny rock is worth 2 sheep.
Left side figure: Sounds fake but ok.]
Technically, countries are also social constructs. We, as a society, negotiate what a country is, and this can be changed.
Tumblr media
[Description: Two figures are standing on either side of a dotted line drawn on the ground. The left figure is pointing down at it while the right figure watches, its arms crossed.
Left figure: Let’s pretend that everything on this side of the imaginary line is mine.
Right figure: ...ok but my house is over there.
Left figure: ... for 3 shiny rocks you can come visit.]
Does that mean canada isn’t real? No. (I mean, obviously canada ISN’T real, but we all agree to pretend it is.) The thing that makes it real is that we are in agreement, and all follow the social rules of pretend to make it seem like the Canadian border, the idea of Canadian citizenship, etc... is an objective fact. (It’s not. These are in fact, negotiable limits and parameters. We have laws in place to define it in legal terms, but those laws can be changed, or may change in the minds of communities. That’s why it’s a construct.)
By that same token, I hold the view that gender, as we largely perceive it in modern society, is a construct. Why? Because it is not inherent; we, as a society, negotiate its meaning.
2) What is gender?
People will probably fight me on this and that’s fine, but here’s my (simplified) understanding of gender (from someone who personally has none)
Gender is a social category negotiated by cultures based on your assigned or desired role in your community that influences, among many other things, your physical appearance, your role in family units, your expected position in jobs, etc.
How I think it happened:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Description: Two figures are standing on either side of the panel, both holding children-looking figures. The one on the left is wearing purple. The one on the right is wearing green.
Green figure: Hey, I’ve got an idea. What if we separate the babies into two groups based on physical traits they have no control over?
Purple figure: Wh-- okay...?
Green figure: And then limit the jobs they can do and the community ritual involvement available to them based on that!
Purple figure: ... I feel like this is going to backfire on us someday.
Green figure: Nah, it’ll be fine.
The past panel is a dramatic closeup on the purple figure’s face - which is featureless - betraying a deeply doubtful emotion. It says nothing.]
Important points to remember: what gender looks like, what the limits are, what the expectations are... are not inherent to any human biology. We make up gender roles. This is evident in the fact that across the world, gender roles differ by culture. The positions people of a certain gender are allowed to take up are different. What is perceived to be ‘girly’ or ‘boyish’ is different across cultures.
Simply speaking - currently the (western) model we have, dumbed down, is:
You are assigned male at birth because of physical characteristics
You are raised being told to ‘toughen up’ and ‘boys don’t cry’ and encouraged not to show emotions
You are taught to wear male-coded clothes and discouraged from female-coded fashion choices
You are given more opportunities to participate in sports, encouraged to engage in physical activity, etc
You are not expected to need time off for child-rearing
Here’s where gender as it works in society breaks down into being not a real thing but instead something we thought up:
Nothing about having a penis necessitates wearing pants. Nothing about having XY chromosomes means you need to keep your hair short. Nothing about your genome makes the experience of nail-polish different for any human being.
All of these are arbitrary traits we decided were allowed or not allowed to a specific group of people based on entirely unrelated physiology.
Even if we delve deeper, there is MORE variation among individuals of the same ‘sex’ than there are, on average, of members of the ‘opposite sex’ when compared to each other.
Many people use the excuse ‘women are physically not as strong as men’ to say that this has an evolutionary aspect driving these cultural, historical, socially-constructed gender requirements.
But if there was a physical reasoning behind the culturally-set gender-limited job expectations, then we actually WOULDN’T need a traditional binary gender system to sort ourselves into categories. It would simply be decided as a meritocracy - stronger individuals, regardless of gender, would be given physically-demanding jobs. (Also we know that many jobs thought to be ‘traditionally male’ are just the result of sexist bullshit, so this reasoning doesn’t fly any further than I can throw it which is, coincidentally, not very far. Politics is one such area. Doctors are another. We can go on but I think you get my drift.)
My own example of this is an anecdote when my grandparents came to visit my partner and I in Japan. While we were driving down to Tokyo, my grandmother - who has a PhD in entomology - began to say that driving is a masculine activity and women shouldn’t be driving as it was ‘un-woman-like’. My partner almost immediately fired back that in Japan, studying insects or having any interest in them whatsoever was considered a heavily masculine-coded activity. In Russia, there is no such assignment, and my grandmother was left silently blinking in confusion, unable to come up with any excuse except ‘well, all cultures are different, I suppose...’
Do either of these things inherently have a gendered aspect? Of course not! But we assign gendered ideals to them anyway.
3) If gender is made up and constructed by society, then does that mean trans people aren’t real?
No.
Even if you agree that gender is a social construct, trans people are still real. TERFs don’t get a pass. Why?
Because gender - as a social construct - still affects our everyday lives, dictates our social position in our community. Transitioning is still a thing that has to happen. The fact that you are NOT easily able to decide your own gender and are ostracized for wanting to transition, abused for dressing the way you want to be perceived, and bullied for wanting people to refer to you with different pronouns - all those are the effects of a social construct that has very REAL impact on our lives.
This is also why I dislike defining trans-ness by dysphoria. Because transgender people are not only their suffering - the suffering is coming from the outside!! Many trans people remember not being concerned about their gender identity in their childhood, because they did not yet perceive the world as being hostile to their desire to fulfil a specific role in society. The issues and self-hatred and dysphoria begins when they express wanting to be themselves - a life which they are forbidden from pursuing based on physical characteristics they were born with.
Does this mean we should try to remove gender from society? If we constructed it, we can deconstruct it, right?
Realistically, I highly doubt this is possible. Gender is so ingrained in our daily lives that it would be difficult. Nor, I would say, would it be necessary to achieve world peace.
Having social groups - having gender - isn’t inherently a bad thing. The bad thing is when we limit those social groups to specific basic human rights, like voting, or when we forbid them from transitioning from one to another based on things that are out of their control.
Also, I’m not saying genitals and secondary sexual characteristics aren’t real. Please don’t bother sending me that angry message, I’ll ignore it, I promise.
But the concept of gender IS something we thought up and maintain and negotiate with each other to this very day. It’s not granted to us by a higher power, nor is it a constant, unchanging thing. It’s a part of the human experience and like everything, it has the potential to evolve - as a concept in our communal memory, as well as on an individual level, for people who feel they want to be perceived differently.
Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk!

Leverage Season 3, Episode 4, The Scheherezade Job, Audio Commentary Transcript
John: From left to right on your radio dial this is John Rogers, executive producer.
Aldis: This is DJ Chocolate Skittles, also known as Aldis Hodge.
Chris: And this is Chris Downey, executive producer and writer of this episode, The Scheherazade Job.
John: Aldis has very kindly decided to join us for this commentary since he was-
Aldis: Hello!
John: He did a lot of work on this episode. This one rode-
Chris: Oh yeah
John: This was one of those ones where you're just like, ‘This actor's gonna be working his ass off for this.’
Aldis: Oh joy.
John: Well Chris, why don't you tell us the origin of this episode?
Chris: Ah well the origin came from a- my friend here to the left, Aldis, back in season one we were just talking about you know things we like to do in our spare time and Aldis mentioned that he loved the violin, he’d been studying it, it was the closest thing to the human voice for an instrument.
Aldis: Yes.
Chris: And coincidentally my wife is a violinist and at the time I said to you, ‘I'm gonna find a way in an episode of Leverage to have you play the violin’ and what did you say to me?
Aldis: I think I said, ‘Do it.’
[Laughter]
Chris: And then you laughed at me.
Aldis: Yeah, we were shooting what was that, the season finale?
Chris: Might've been the season finale
Aldis: That was- yeah, Pasadena?
John: Yup
Aldis: Yeah, yeah, I remember that conversation.
Chris: And this is Martha Boles, terrific actress from Los Angeles.
John: This is interesting actually, we had a- when we were setting up the bad guy here, we had an interesting conversation about- and this is one of those things you talk about in television. Should the reporter be white or not?
Chris: Yeah.
John: Yeah. We were looking at casting and we were like, no it should be a black reporter working with that. And then we got some, you know, feedback that's like, well now it's a white crew of criminals, apparently missing Aldis’s presence, helping out a black reporter.
Aldis: Don’t worry, they miss me all the time.
John: It's one of those- it’s tricky, it's one of those things where one of the reasons we kinda were leery of doing international crimes, first season and second season. And you kinda- because it's always a minefield, it just is. And now in third season, everyone’s comfortable and everyone knows the show well enough that you can kinda try to swing outside the box. I think Chris did a great job taking this outside the box for the first time on the show.
Chris: Yeah it was- it was interesting cause most- I think we talked about this, most episodes start with the bad guy and we kinda work our way from there. We kinda talk about ‘what's the bad guy, what does he want, what is his weaknesses’. And this is one of those episodes that started with a big idea late in the episode which was the orchestra heist, and we kinda worked from there to kind of try and figure out whose our bad guy? And that's- we decided- we hadn't done an African kleptocrat, we wanted to do that for a long time, and this seemed like a good opportunity to do that.
John: Now also when doing a straight heist, because we were coming at it as a straight heist, we wanted a small highly portable object. The cleaner the object, the cleaner the goal of the heist, the more you can work around the elegance of the heist itself. And when you're staring with an elegant heist, which is the music heist, you have to do something very clean, which was diamonds. And so it all sort of fed into this one storyline.
Chris: Yes, yes.
Aldis: Didn't you want to play the organ? At first I mean that's plain and portable and-
[Laughter]
John: Yes, originally it was a giant Wurlitzer organ.
Aldis: Yeah, just a whole thing.
John: This was a ton of fun, this was a great little fight scene.
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: Kane had too much fun shooting this.
Chris: He had a lot of fun here. And these gentlemen are Garfield Wedderburn and- yeah, Garfield Wedderburn is the lead goon here; his name is goon.
Aldis: Goon.
[Laughter]
Chris: And there he is doing this- some kind of scary tai chi?
Aldis: That was actually a joke and it just made it on the reel, it was like-
John: You know what? We saw it in the dailies, we were gonna cut out of it but it was like- but the idea he would just scare the shit out of those guys to get them to go. ‘Can your dog do that?’ That was great.
Chris: ‘Can your dog do that?’
John: It is nice every now and then to remind people exactly why everyone on the team is there.
Chris: By the way, I love that you named the dog Megabyte.
Aldis: Megabyte, yeah, yes.
John: That was you, that’s right.
Chris: That was all you.
Aldis: If anybody can get that, Megabyte, yes. Now if one of those days we just see the dog, which will probably be a poofy little yorkie or something like that.
John: Dogs are too expensive; we can't afford them.
Chris: We can't afford them.
Aldis: We can't afford dogs.
Chris: We'll do a virtual dog.
Aldis: A virtual dog, yes.
John: That's sad.
Aldis: The little mechanical one with the batteries? Yeah.
Chris: Sure.
John: Now continuing the original conversation, so we knew we were working backwards towards an African kleptocrat, but how do you find a guy who’s like based in the states, so we’re not flying overseas, we’re not trying to fake a city you can't fake on our budget. And so that led us to the research and- did we find someone who was real, Chris?
Chris: Well, there's no similarities to persons living or dead. But, um-
John: We’d like to say for both legal reasons, and so we don't get shot in the face.
Chris: Yes, please.
John: Oh my god, this guy is real and he's horrible!
Chris: He's real, he's horrible. He's not a classical music fan, that was something we brought to it, to facilitate the story. But he is a very wealthy relative of an African kleptocrat who has a house here in the United States and in Paris and has a Bugatti and all the things you would imagine a kleptocrat would.
John: All the way down, actually, to the fact that the reason he does not fall under the- is not criminalized under some of the kleptocrat laws we have here in the States, with the same plot point we have in the show, which is he's been a friend in the war on terror.
Chris: Yes, yes that’s all true.
John: Which looks like he pretty much turns in political opponents.
Chris: Wow, we certainly don't want to say that he does that, but-
John: But oh come on.
Chris: And here we have-
John: Your name’s on the show, they're gonna kill you. I'm not too worried.
[Laughter]
John: And here's Elisabetta Canalis, the loveliest Elisabetta Canalis.
Aldis: Aldis Hodge was never here, was never here. This actually is the second time we've seen her in the entire arc of this third season. So now the audience is getting another taste of exactly who she is, because she just left us off with blackmail, and now, you know, we're digging into her story. Of course at the end of the show, we get to see that she's not as fair game as she comes up to be.
Chris: Yeah, and we wanted to make her kind of you know sexy and mysterious, and I like this scene cause-
Aldis: Sexy what? Sexy?
Chris: Yeah well she-
John: Well there's no reason we just shoot her legs in every scene.
[Laughter]
Aldis: Exactly, there's no reason to put her in heels and closeups on the face, no! Not at all.
John: This was a nice bit that you came up with: the idea that kind of flirting, sexy, dangerous. And Nate Ford being smart enough to realize it’s a very bad idea.
Chris: I love this, this is one of my favorite flashes.
John: It's one of my favorite zooms, it's a hypothetical zoom, it's something we never usually do.
Chris: I like it because right here she looks so bored,
[Laughter]
Chris: There's something about the insouciance of it, of her.
John: Oh another guy being garotted in front of me.
Chris: Oh stop the tape.
John: It's another Thursday for me.
Chris: And he was- Tim was great at, you know, holding his throat like that.
John: Yeah the- well the sort of implication, again, is again, it’s tricky the team has been playing a lot without ever being taken down themselves. Tim has to carry a lot of the weight acting because he's the one who interacts with Elizabetta the most, to convey the threat she portrays to make sure you take her seriously. And nice diagrams on the glass boards. I always love the glass boards
Aldis: Provided by…?
John: Who drew on that one? I don't think I drew on that one, I wasn't there for that one.
Aldis: Really?
John: No, that handwriting is too good that's not me. Usually- yeah, usually I spew the bullshit that goes up on the glass.
Chris: Now what's nice-
Aldis: And it- oh, sorry, go ahead
Chris: Oh I was gonna say it’s a nice opportunity to get a little bit into Eliot's backstory which we, in the early scene in the bar, he alludes to the fact that knows about these- what goes on in these countries, these Chinese- these child soldiers. And you know I think here you can kinda see this whole- this whole particular case is really, you know, affecting him directly.
John: Yeah it's part of the over the course of the arc, kind of peeling back everybodys past this season. And we gave Eliot you know- we really wanted to sort of reset and remind people for the finale that Eliot, you know Eliot killed people. Eliot was not a good guy and is trying to be a better guy.
Aldis: What I had to say was nowhere near as intuitive as that, but the prior scene a lot of- a lot of times you'll see Sophie wearing that dog tag, it’s blank. It's like a name tag, but it's blank, and that's an ode to the fact that she hasn't given Nate her real name. And it kind plays throughout the entire season so for those of you have paid attention-
John: We actually used it, we actually- the audience doesn't know those dog tags are blank because she doesnt show the dog tags. But when she told us she was doing it we wrote-
Aldis: Did I just give up a secret?
John: No, no, no it’s cool. What happened is: she wears them. And we were like, ‘What are those?’ And she told us dog tags are blank, it's a little private joke. So we wrote it into the show, that's why she gets the blank pendant in episode 13, cause we just thought that was really cool and that's something Gina came up with on her own.
Aldis: It's just gonna be a drinking game every time they spot the dog tags.
John: Sure, there's already a lot of drinking games.
Aldis: There are.
John: There are a lot on the web, you go on there's a lot of drinking games.
Aldis: Every time we say ‘seriously’, drink!
[Laughter]
Aldis: Not that we promote that here, no.
Chris: Not at all.
John: No, I don't do all of these with a beer in my hand.
Chris: No no drinking games.
Aldis: What is that you're drinking John, water?
John: It’s- yes, dark Irish water.
Aldis: Yes.
John: This was a nice again- we started splitting people up so we could- the coverage is a little easier. and it helped us remind- Third season we started taking a lot of the prep that was implied in act 0 of seasons 1 and 2 and moving it into act 1 and act 2 of this season. Where you see them doing the prep and putting together the plan on the fly as they get information.
Chris: Right.
John: Which both makes it more dynamic, and helps us with shooting.
Chris: Yeah, I mean this is a very plan-intensive episode, and you want to try and make the planning side interesting visually.
John: Yeah because there's so much pipe to lay in a believable way to get to that great fourth act. I mean you have to make sure the audience is utterly invested by that point.
Chris: I like this little bit with you guys right here.
Aldis: Me and Kane man, when we get together it's always a party.
Chris: But what's great about you guys is it's not always the bickering brothers, where you're yelling at each other that makes me laugh. It's just the little throwaway things of the two of you together.
Aldis: It's the little things that bring the sparkle to your eye, the little things.
[Laughter]
Chris: And they just the way we did this-
Aldis: This was a funny sequence to shoot.
John: Yeah this was great. This was- what did we name the reporter?
Chris: Guy Hamilton which is an ode to Mel Gibson's character in The Year of Living Dangerously.
[Laughter]
Chris: For all you folks out there keeping score. By the way, I forgot yesterday when we did Gone Fishing Job that you are- your names when you went into the bank and were Brody and Quinn from Jaws.
John: Because you're gonna need a bigger boat.
Chris: This looks great, by the way!
Aldis: I'm pretty sure you need another drink for that.
Chris: Look at that, he's there!
John: I've seen far less convincing stuff on CNN.
[Laughter]
John: I'm fairly sure, yeah
Chris: And there's Giancarlo Esposito fantastic.
John: Friend of Tim, came in and did this for us. Really really great, flew in.
Aldis: His daughters’ actually in the orchestra, they- one plays violin the other plays viola.
John: Oh cool.
Aldis: Yeah, so he had a lot to discuss.
John: I love seeing the evil dude Skype list; I just realized we could see it on there. It’s like ‘Lefou is away. Where is Lefou?’
Chris: Pizza Hut? Why does he have Pizza Hut on Skype?
John: On Skype? That's weird. And who is that lurking behind him?
Chris: Oh lurking behind him is Nnamdi Asomugha who is an all pro cornerback for the Oakland Raiders. Arguably the best cornerback in the NFL.
Aldis: And you have your Raiders ball here, it's perfect.
Chris: And I have my Raiders ball here to prove it.
John: Now how did he wind up on the show?
Chris: Well, you know, like any famous Hollywood story, it started at a hockey game.
[Laughter]
Chris: My- we have a mutual agent, and he invited me to a hockey game and said, ‘This is my friend Nnamdi.’ And although I am a big sports fan, for some reason the best cornerback in the NFL eluded me and I just met him as a guy. And we were chatting and found out he was- he acted and I asked him at the time, his families from Nigeria and I- this was a year ago, and I said, ‘Can you do a good African accent?’ He said, ‘Oh definitely.’ I said, ‘Alright, well if we get a part for, you know a big guy, menacing guy with an African accent I'll call you’. And lo and behold, episode came up and he did a fantastic job.
John: I think his family is from Ethiopia, actually.
Chris: No, I think he’s Nigerian.
John: Nigerian? Oh ok. And here- this is her playing Christie Connelly again.
Chris: Yes, yes.
John: Yes, this is why we started bringing back the- as we realized that they are gonna be roles that the- it also sort of came up as we did our research that con artists tend to settle into certain roles that they've done background on, and also that they've established the credentials to. We mention later actually on another episode that she's like, ‘I got seven years worth of work on this identity’, so she's doing a similar gig, so why not use the same name?
Chris: And let's be honest it's also our nod to James Garner, who was Jimmy Joe Meeker in multiple episodes of the Rockford Files.
John: Yes exactly, also she gets to use her native accent in this.
Chris: Yeah, that’s right!
John: Cause Gina is from New Zealand, not England. Most people- she grew up in England but she was born in New Zealand, and was a child in New Zealand, so she gets to use her kiwi accent here. Very kicky little gold chain going on there.
Chris: And I love this, this is a great kind of subtle sales pitch that she just sells so well.
John: Yeah. And again this is one of those great things in the show, not blowing smoke up our own skirts, but the fun of having great actors is you con, con, con, and then you park it on these little two-person scenes and it's fun, you know, it actually plays.
Chris: And here's- you know I like the idea that we've kind of developed with Hardison’s character that, you know, he's chafing a little bit around the crew, and, kind of, as the youngest member of the crew, kind of like, sees that he’d like to run his own crew someday and kind of expressing that here. I mean how did you approach this Aldis? Was that something that you kinda thought of for the character?
Aldis: I approached it, I stretched, I, uh, did a couple push ups.
John: Well we get a lot of emails from him ‘I should be the lead of the show,’ so it's a similar thing.
[Laughter]
Chris: But I know we had discussions about it not being a typical father/son kind of vibe. Right?
Aldis: Right, right, right. This is- this entire situation was newly presented to me in the script. That's when I found out that I was  like, ‘OK, Hardison wants to step up.’ But I think that- I mean, it's a great premise and he is the youngest, so he has the most to learn because he hasn't figured out all of his bad habits just yet.
Chris: Right.
Aldis: And so he can sit back, watch his team, watch how they work, watch the mistakes they make, and then ten season later, hint hint, audience, hint hint-
Chris: Ten seasons when you'll be all of 35.
[Laughter]
Aldis: Exactly.
John: Then you'll be ready to lead the crew.
Aldis: Exactly.
John: Yeah no it's- we really played around with it. It's not father/son it's sort of- it’s really Paper Chase but for crime.
Chris: Yes, yes, very much, I think that's a great way of putting it. And I love, here, too, if I can blow some more smoke up you, that, you know, we play big characters in these cons that are, like, larger than life. I mean, I think, you know, the Ice Man Job character comes to mind-
Aldis: [Mimicking the accent he did] The Ice Man Job.
Chris: When you play a kind of a small reserved guy, all inside, it's such a nice change, and it’s like it adds a vulnerability to these con characters that I think is great.
Aldis: He's very not- he wasn't a meek character, but he's very, very humble.
Chris: Humble that's better.
Aldis: He came from a hard life, he knew how to appreciate what was there, he knows how to prioritize, you know, to put everything else before his own needs. And that's kinda where I felt this character was coming from. He couldn't be too big or else, you know, with all of the skills, his grandeur, he would have done something with that by now; he's a cab driver, so he's gotta be quiet about something.
John: And the- also, this was the first time I think we put- we had talked about the different skills, as you go into every season you talk about like, ‘How do we make sure we focus on the characters? How do we make sure nobody blends in the background?’ And one of the things is reminding everyone- and we did this really in the Jailbreak and especially in this one to set it up, Parker is great at three dimensional heists. Parker rotates objects in three dimensional space. So she's Nate's partner here; he might be able to cook up plans, but she's the one telling him the parameters of those plans with the physical heists.
Aldis: Right.
John: No one is better than her at physical insertion, and that's one of the things we kinda hammered during this season.
Aldis: I think our skills- I mean we’re all necessary to one another, but our skills kinda levy a system of checks and balances-
John: Yeah.
Aldis: The way the government should do it. But we can do one thing and take it only so far and then pass it off, then the next team member polishes it up and takes you to the very next level.
John: What- Chris why don't you talk about how we structured the heist?
Chris: Well you know the- back when we were trying to break the story the initial idea behind it was that there would be two levels of tension in the big act, in the big heist. There would be part of the team breaking in to steal the object, and there would be Hardison on stage sweating out having to play this impossible solo in front of people. And the problem that I was running  into was: why did these two things have to happen at the same time? Why now? Why can't they be breaking in on a Wednesday, you know, when Hardison's not scheduled to play this. And John, you said- thought about it for a minute, and you said, ‘Well obviously it's the only time that they can do the heist is when there’s- when the orchestra is playing because that's when they have to turn off the motion detectors.’
Aldis: Because John has stolen from an orchestra before, when they-
[Laughter]
Aldis: He speaks from personal experience.
Chris: And I took a minute and I said, ‘I could kiss you on the mouth.’
[Laughter]
John: That was one of those ‘what's in the Arclight’ days? I contributed almost nothing else to this episode. I was busy off doing the season opener. We were banging these out before the rest of the staff- and I came up with that bit and I'm like, ‘You're gold, go have fun, I’m out.’ I got that, and then we basically- knowing the motion detectors couldn't be beaten and played us back into the other security measures, and created this impossible vault. And that was also fun, we started for the first time throwing stuff at the team where it's like, ‘yeah there's some stuff you just can't beat,’ you know, that you have to go sideways.
Aldis: I’d like to note here that I'm wearing every possible shade of gray that there is known to man.
[Laughter]
John: Why is that? Is that an emotional choice? Is that about his ambivalence about his role in the con? Or is that-?
Aldis: I have no idea
John: Always say- you know what? Do the thing I just did with him, start with ‘obviously’ it's a good way- when you wanna throw up an enormous amount of bullshit just start with ‘Obviously.’
Aldis: Obviously!
John: And then just, people buy it.
Aldis: What we wanted to do was confuse the audience.
John: Oh Scheherezade, exactly how'd you choose Scheherezade?
Chris: Well we needed- we needed a piece that was public domain, as a practical matter, because we have budget constraints in this show. And that ended on a violin solo. And it was- I forgot what the other candidates were, but my wife, I have to give her credit at least a little, fantastic violinist, picked Scheherezade and said, ‘You gotta listen to this.’ And I listened to the last 7 minutes because I knew we needed it to kind of roll out in real time over the course of the heist. And the solo just kinda like dropped me, I thought, ‘Oh my god, this is gonna be fantastic.’ And then when I did a little research on Scheherezade’s story, how she was the wife of a- in the story of the Arabian Nights he killed- every night he married a different wife, and killed them the next morning. And then Scheherezade walked in and figured she'd be finished, but every night she told him a story, and the story kept him on- you know, on the edge of his seat, she never told him the ending and finally after 1001 nights he married her. So I said OK, that’s the first grifter in history’. And that just kinda fit in thematically with the whole episode, and that's when we knew we had to use that piece.
John: And our music guy Joe Deluca putting a lovely little sort of spin, sort of-
Chris: Yeah he had a very nice-
John: -Arabian Nights spin on the score there. Now, you play violin. What did you think when we dropped Scheherezade on your lap?
Aldis: Well I was screaming inside, running for my life.
[Laughter]
Aldis: Jesus I've only been playing just for- not even five years, and when I took the music to my music teacher, she like- lord have mercy, she had a heart attack. She was like- she had been playing professionally for 20 years before she tackled Scheherezade. My other teacher had been playing, also, I believe between 20 and 30 years before she tackled Scheherezade so I had no confidence whatsoever. No, kidding, obviously I was very impressed with the piece. It's a beautiful piece. I love the song and I was actually very open to the challenge. I just wanted to make sure I did it well enough to do the song some justice. Now shooting these scenes being surrounded by actual musicians was awe-inspiring and-
John: Really? You really? Oh.
Aldis: Man, it was terrifying.
Chris: Yeah where did this rank among the scarier things you've done on the show? Where would you put this?
Aldis: This is the top right here.
Chris: This is the top right here.
John: So not running on top of a moving train.
[Laughter]
Aldis: Not at all man.
John: Really? That was fine, but this? This was terrifying.
Aldis: I'm a nut man, I'm a nut. I can do that because-
John: I can tell you as your executive producer with an insurance policy on you, you can do this whenever you want, don't do the train again.
Aldis: I shan't! I shall not.
Chris: And this actor, Michael Winther, fantastic New York stage actor who came in and did an amazing job. It was originally written I think he was Spanish and then I asked Michael-
John: Well you were kinda basing it on Dudamel.
Chris: Exactly it was based on Gustavo Dudamel who was the Venezuelan, kind of, rockstar conductor of the LA Philharmonic.
Aldis: Oh yeah.
Chris: Yeah, and Michael said that he could do German and I thought well there's nothing more intimidating than someone talking to you with a German accent.
Aldis: German accent, yeah.
John: Really?
Chris: And he was just great.
John: Even if it's like ‘I would like some hugs now,’ still it's creepy, it's not- yeah.
[Laughter]
John: Apologies, and now the angry letters from people with a German accent will be coming in.
Aldis: Exactly, you'll be getting a letter from the government.
John: A nice stall, you can't get it too far. And, you know, this again is kinda focusing on how everyone does things. Parker needs paper. Parker needs plans. Parker needs drawings. This is how she thinks. She was trained by an old school thief, and it's cool cause we're kinda hinting at the thing you're gonna find out in episode 5, like how she was trained, you know, trained by an old school thief, she thinks like an old school thief.
Aldis: Yeah
John: And then we do the fun- and this is, when you're constructing something based on a high concept, the fun of it was we have an impossible heist, stuff rolls back from that. Okay if it's impossible, that means we have to see the planning, we have to see the surveillance, we have to see the surveillance to establish to the audience the rules of the heist.
Chris: Right.
John: Cause you had already said, and I will say the first thing you said to me was ‘I wanna do a heist where there's no words.’
Chris: Yes.
John: And I said ‘You're out of your mind and it's unshootable’. I actually utterly dismissed you, and then you came back like, ‘We do it this way.’ And I was like, ‘Alright, that’s slightly less insane.’ But that required the rest of the episode to do an enormous amount of work.
Chris: Yeah, you need to know- once you got to the heist, you need to know exactly what people were doing and why, without any dialogue. And so- and that kinda required that the heist needed to be fairly simple.
John: Yes.
Chris: So, you know, that kinda was a little bit liberating for me, cause once I realized, OK, I drew this corridor, you know, we had to get past this keypad, and then there was a room, we had to blow a hole in the floor, it was like from a to b to c, as long as I made it fairly simple and easy to remember in the planning stages, we could carry it out.
John: And this is also one of the great things about physical production. You actually flew up and scouted this, right?
Chris: Yeah, we did.
John: You adjusted the heist based around the physical location.
Chris: Yeah well, we built this hallway here-
John: Is that a build? I thought it was a-
Chris: This is the hardest working hallway in show business.
John: I thought it was the hallway on the other side of the concert hall?
Chris: No, no.
Aldis: No, me and Chrisitan built it ourselves.
John: Oh that's where Elizabetta was. That's right, there you go.
Chris: That’s right.
John: Yeah, now we're establishing the rules, and a little hint there that Nnamdi is not your ordinary thug.
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: Yes.
John: Yeah, just that little wince.
Chris: And here, again, you know, it was we had plans in front of Tim that he could actually trace the line and that's exactly where you were going. Those are the plans of the set.
John: Those are the plans for the set?
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: Yeah!
John: That’s great!
Chris: I mean that showed him, he could draw- I showed him here's where you draw the hole, that’s where it’s gonna be.
John: Yeah and big props to Bekka Melino and everybody in production design this year. That vault looked gorgeous.
Chris: Yeah, it did.
John: Everything looked gorgeous, you know, set dec.
Chris: I have to give her credit for something else in that too. In the original script, the locker numbers in the vault were numbered; they were just numbered. And she called me up and said, ‘What do you think if we made like some kind of symbol or something for them, and maybe like musical terms?’ And I said, ‘That's fantastic.’ And it kinda helped build the character of Moto as someone who is just, you know, obsessed with music.
Aldis: Appreciates music.
John: Yeah.
Chris: And here's where-
Aldis: This is a tough thing, a tough deal for me. Not me personally, but for Hardison because of the fact that- I mean, this is a big deal trying to walk away from a mission with such reasonable cause.
Chris: Right.
Aldis: Only because of the fact that he's afraid, it's not because his life is endangered, it's simply because he's afraid.
Chris: Did you feel like that was- I mean, but performing without being prepared is like the, sort of, go to nightmare that people have, right?
John: Only if you were pantless could this be worse.
Aldis: Exactly, it's also the fact that if he performs poorly he could mess up the entire heist.
Chris: Yes
Aldis: But he was more afraid of himself performing badly then messing up the heist. And-
John: It's an interesting look into the character, because he's a perfectionist and he tends to- he’s tended to take the path he has in life because he's been able to be good at it.
Aldis: Yes.
Chris: Right.
John: You know, it's always interesting once you're past school and once you're an adult when you try to do things, you try to learn a new skill once you're out of your teens, and you realize ‘Oh, this is very hard.‘
Aldis: Yeah it's like learning violin.
John: Yeah exactly.
Aldis: As an adult, as I am doing now.
John: Really hard. But no, you just couldn't drop Scheherezade on you.
Chris: Here's a great-
John: This is a great shot actually, because we actually never shot this. This was footage of them actually getting into place.
Chris: Yes.
John: From the dailies that we had when we rolled the camera on. And that we wound up assembling together into a shot and then digitally placing the conductor into the middle of it.
Chris: Oh yeah, when we get to the later shot of the conductor there, that was- that’s totally digital. This the- orchestra is Marshall Tuttle is the conductor of the orchestra, it’s a local Portland community college orchestra. And they, you know, I have to give a lot of props to them because they got the music and they had to mock play the piece, but that meant they had to prepare for it, they had to know.
Aldis: Yeah I actually learned from them that day the rest of the piece. I mean all I knew up to that point was the solo. Until they said- and I knew bits and pieces of the other music until they said, ‘Hey, so we actually wanna shoot you playing the, you know, the bit before stuff.’ I’m like, ‘Right now, guys?’
John: Oh yes, a surprise by the way.
Aldis: Surprise!
John: This quick thing, they're gonna pop the camera on you there as you do this thing you just learned how to do.
Aldis: So I was just watching my fellow musicians around me as we shot, I was just watching their fingers and going off of them but hopefully you can’t tell.
John: That's a great little shake, that head shake like, ‘No, let's not get too heavily invested’.
Aldis: That was a real head shake that was ‘I do not wanna shoot this scene right now.’
[Laughter]
John: Could we please stop?
Aldis: None of the trepidation in this is faked, it’s real fear people. Real fear.
[Laughter]
Aldis: I dreaded this more than anything.
Chris: So there was less acting in this than typical episodes because you actually had fear.
Aldis: The fear yes, no acting at all, man, it was not hard to be afraid. At all. Whatsoever.
John: And here's Elizabetta, and it was interesting- I will be totally honest we knew we needed stuff for the finale-
Chris: Yeah.
John: And no idea what we needed it to be yet.
Chris: Right and right. And also to a certain degree, you know, when you have a MacGuffin, you know an item I want you to get, and you struggle as to what it could be, and we did struggle, we argued what is- what's in the envelope? And ultimately it's pretty cool when you don't know what it is.
John: Yeah it's point blank. It’s- yeah.
Chris: And you know we don't want to give anything away, but it did help us in the finale.
John: Yeah, well they've seen it by now, in theory.
Chris: Oh, okay.
John: Usually they watch all the way through and then do the commentaries.
Chris: That’s fine then. So that's fine, I'm not a spoiler.
Aldis: So what was in the envelope, fellows?
John: In the envelope is the evidence that the Italian needs because she's part of the shadowy international intelligence organization that launders money through Moto’s blood diamond accounts.
Chris: Yes.
John: And yeah that's actually- if you do a lot of research in money laundering, we did a lot of money laundering this year.
Aldis: Yes we did.
John: You find out that a lot of sort of black ops stuff, and a lot of the governments- there's a reason it's still around. You know governments find it useful, you know, and certain parts of governments find money laundering, international money laundering useful.
Chris: And here we go now we start- we start the clock and the dialogue is about to end pretty quickly.
John: Yeah I think we did like two touches, two clarifying things once we test screened it.
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: We did an entire fourth act with just pure music.
Chris: Yeah, this is it here, we go.
John: Yeah this is it. Nnamdi did a great job in this, by the way, I want to say, because he's acting without dialogue and that's hard, you know, for a young actor.
Aldis: It’s like stare at this paper bag and make it interesting.
John: Yeah, exactly.
Chris: And I have to give Brian Gonosey here, our editor, a lot of credit here, too, because this was like editing a music video, because this was- we had to kinda time this stuff to the music, and this was, you know, this- in listening to the piece, you know, in my mind I had punching in numbers for this part, cause I could hear it in my head, and-
Aldis: Now this-
Chris: And now- oh.
Aldis: No, I’m sorry, go ahead.
Chris: Well this is just when you have an all pro quarterback from the NFL on your show, and you have Christian Kane who is a gigantic football fan, you're gonna have him knock him down in full run.
Aldis: Now Christian really took that hit.
Chris: He sure did folks.
John: He hit that wall hard, baby!
Aldis: This man is paid to hit people.
[Laughter]
John: Beth took this hit too.
Aldis: Yeah.
Chris: She did take that hit.
Aldis: She took it like a trooper.
John: Wait where'd- Chris played football for a while, what was he, tailback? What was Chris?
Chris: Well I know, back in high school, yeah.
Aldis: He played in it, and he wrestled, too. Nnamdi is a big guy.
John: Nnamdi is a big guy.
Aldis: He's like 6’ 4” something, 6’ 6”?
Chris: And he wanted to do all his own stunts and we were like, ‘Please, we do not want Al Davis on our ass.’
[Laughter]
John: ‘I'm sorry, did you hurt the greatest quarterback in the NFL in your little pretend show this weekend?’
Chris: He's like, ‘You know what the stunt mans doing? I can do that!’ And we said, ‘We know! Please don’t!’
Aldis: Now the NFL owns Leverage.
John: We’d have a bigger budget, that'd be alright.
[Laughter]
John: And then now down through the floor, this was fun playing around with- thank you Mythbusters, playing around with directional blowouts, and thermite and all the other sort of how to- oh that's a- and Nnamdi won't go down.
Chris: No, he won’t.
John: We were- this- he’s the thug who ate his Wheaties.
Aldis: I think that's a great part about this entire sequence and just the character in general is: cause he finally- somebody gave Eliot a challenge, a real challenge you know. It was kinda like the season finale for the first season.
John: But that guy had technique, you know, that was the thing. What Eliot is facing right now is another dude who kills people professionally.
Aldis: Yeah.
John: You know, and just with power. It's also fun cause it’s- all Eliot/Parker scenes are inherently fun.
Chris: And here, and this was all built around the music. We knew this was gonna- we were gonna build to- there's a giant gong hit here and that was gonna be- that was the whole thing was timed to the explosion and now one of the words ‘boom’.
Aldis: We really blew a hole in a floor and let Nnamdi fall through? He was a trooper, he took it?
John: Yes, please don’t tell the Raiders.
Chris: Please don't tell Al Davis.
Aldis: I'm kidding, guys. Kinda.
John: This was actually shot later, we actually rebuilt the ceiling and then dropped it in later.
Chris: Yeah, it’s great.
John: They did a great job because they- it was like ‘We need you to build that ceiling that we built a couple episodes, but put a hole in it.’ Like, ‘Alright.’ Yeah. And Nate being in the middle of it unexpectedly is a wonderful development.
Chris: Even this, all this all the editing was just timed perfectly to the music as he pulls, Walle is his character, pulls into the corner. And here it is.
John: That's a nice beat, actually, was Sophie- that's a nice choice by Gina, Sophie being totally confident because she knows, she's already in on the hypnosis thing. So she's already ahead of it, and what that was meant to be encouraging.
Chris: Now here it is.
Aldis: [Humming the song]
Chris: And, you know, I have to say my wife, violinist, gives you huge props here for your fingering and your bow work.
Aldis: Thank you. You do realize this song haunted me as I was practicing and preparing for it? It literally was playing in my head when no other sound was on in the room. I painted a picture called The Scheherazade. I painted the notes themselves because I had to get it outta my head. It was-
Chris: That’s great.
John: Where's the painting?
Aldis: It’s still back in Portland waiting for me to get back to it.
John: Nice.
Chris: Now what kind of response did you get from people when this aired?
Aldis: A lot of musicians actually said I did a good job, which I was proud about. I was- I was more concerned about how musicians would take it. Because they know what to look for, and as I watched I was like, ‘Alright,’ you know, cringing, but a lot of them they really, really dug it.
John: Well you always see the flaws in your performance, you know.
Aldis: Yeah of course because I’m looking for it, as the actor. By the way, this scene when Beth has the tear, that wasn't a tear she just had allergies, but played to her strengths and- right there the yeah.
John: It's just the smoke and stuff, the allergies.
Aldis: Very dusty, you know, we just kept it, we kept it. I’m kidding Beth’s a great actress, she did that on her own.
Chris: She’s fantastic. She did that, I mean, that's pretty amazing.
Aldis: Yeah was that her choice there?
Chris: Yeah.
John: Yeah, that wasn’t in the script.
Chris: And we didn't have a lot of time for that, too, we were really running out of time for that scene and they, boy were they great reacting to it.
Aldis: The boy did it! Uh!
[Laughter]
Aldis: Y'all know what this is! Sexual chocolate!
John: We’re gonna have to make t-shirts now, I hope.
Aldis: We are gonna have to make t-shirts.
Chris: Now in the original script, you got a girl's phone number; we had to cut it for time but there was.
John: Sexy violinists.
Aldis: It's alright, Hardison gets numbers.
Chris: You know, Hardison, we've been trying to hook you up and I'm sorry we ran out of time.
John: Well, you know that's alright, there's- I don't think the fans would like the girl.
Aldis: I think if I ever got hooked up, fans would just murder Hardison because-
John: They would not be happy.
Aldis: They're waiting on Parker.
John: Well also, you know, and what's interesting is: you've kind of changed looks since the first season. You were a very skinny kid when you came in that first season. You turned 21 the night we hired you.
Aldis: Yeah 21, I'm 24 now.
John: Yeah, you put a little man weight on you now.
Aldis: Man weight, shaved the whiskers a little bit, try to give you a little something different each year. Next year I'm gonna come in about 250 pounds.
John: Nice, maybe with a cane cause you can't quite walk, you got the gout.
Aldis: Cankles baby.
John: Rock the gout. This is brutal- just looking for the rematch.
Chris: I love the look.
John: Every time I see this, I try to figure out a way to bring that character back.
Chris: Can we bring him back?
John: Seriously man, that look as he rolls forward is like, I want that rematch.
Chris: You know he makes more money than everyone in- you know, I mean he's- he’ll fly out on a private jet and come do it.
John: Just I gotta figure out something. And then I remember cause it was great, cause- I was actually out of town and then you shot this, and I didn’t see anything until I saw the first cut of this. I didn't see any dailies and so I saw the first cut of this and when he rolled forward that time I'm like ‘Oh! No wait, I know there's no rematch’ but-
Aldis: Yeah.
John: It’s- it was fun it was being able to watch this episode as a fan was a big treat.
Chris: Yeah, and here it was trying to pay off the Scheherezade story by having Nate make up something on the fly.
John: Yeah, it's the- thematically it yeah it starts with a con, it has a heist in the middle, and ends with a con.
Chris: Ends with a con.
Aldis: Yeah.
John: And you just the balls- the sheer stones it takes, ‘I have no idea what's in this.’
Chris: Yeah, right?
John: Just absolute sheer stones. To just bet on a sealed deck. We actually talked about that, we had played around with poker episodes and just what kind of- we talked at length- and it's one of those things that will never wind up in the show but we wind up talking in the room, what kind of gambler Nate is. And Nate is a guy who will bet on whole cards he hasn't seen.
Chris: Right, yes.
John: Yeah which is not necessarily the smartest thing in the world, but that’s that guy.
Aldis: He's the kind of guy who loses all his money first at the table, but eventually gains a couple chips back.
John: Yeah, yeah. Or manages to just be luckier than smarter, but smart enough to know he's lucky.
Chris: And I have to say Marcel Davis here played Simian Moto the president, and did an amazing job. I mean he's a local Portland actor.
John: Yeah, really- Portland. Never disappoints, Portland is a great place with great actors.
Chris: Now you can kinda see Gina slipping in there. It was- I know we had a couple of comments.
John: We had ten people on that set!
Chris: It was hard.
John: She's that black shape that kinda moves in with the secret service.
Aldis: I just saw her slip in there, keep your eyes open.
Chris: Keep your eyes open folks. She had- apparently she had a great time assembling this gun.
John: She was kinda rocking out the Helen Mirren in RED there.
Chris: She was.
John: She was really kinda- that was hot. She did- I watched the dailies on that like eight times, come on, she's very good at this. And the gloat, the drag out, the gloat.
Chris: The gloat and the drag away.
John: Very nice and the president. Oh Nnamdi wants to go! Let them go! Let them fight! That drinking game for Enter the Dragon. It’s like every time.
Chris: There we go, another time we’ll bring him back.
Aldis: Let's just send this out to all the Oakland raiders fans and see if they put in a vote, do you want Nnamdi back?
Chris: Do you wanna see Nnamdi back, please?
Aldis: Let's see what happens.
John: Promised by the DVD. Yeah.
Aldis: I feel it'll be promising.
John: And this was a nice set up, and again it was interesting because she had such the upper hand in the first episode, this is the one where Chris really kinda reset that, yeah, Nate Ford is not a patsy.
Chris: Yeah.
John: You know he is- there's a reason they’re using him. He's a dangerous guy, and he's become more of a dangerous guy this year because he's acknowledged who he is. Last year this would've played out differently.
Chris: Yeah, no it was- you know, the sequence was flirty, dangerous, a little bit of banter then she puts the screws to him and then he puts the screws to her here.
John: Yeah cause he knows. He knows, he dealt with these types of people, you know, he's not ignorant of exactly how big a game he's playing in right now. Great, great shot. She- this is a 1960s shot, that shot right there, I really love this. And she's got a very classic late 60s look and that was interesting because we used it- we actually called the character the Italian as shorthand because it was an archetype from the 60s, and then when she came on the show we were trying to come up with a name it's like, we're not gonna beat The Italian.
Chris: No no, it’s the best.
John: Just keep it there. And it kinda kept her in the headspace, when we wrote the scripts it kept her in that zone.
Aldis: And when she happened to actually be Italian!
John: We started with that, that was the-
Aldis: Ahhh, ohhh, ahhhh!
John: Did we not explain that to you?
Aldis: Ahhhh!
John: We just happened to get Elisabetta. Yeah, there you go.
Aldis: There go- ahhh!
Chris: And this is a nice kind of close out to, you know we sort of set up earlier that Eliot has some regrets of things that he may have done back when he was a soldier. Things he saw in Africa. And I thought Tim had a nice ad lib here, cause he kinda indicated that it was Eliot's idea to provide money for kids in the community based on them selling the violin.
John: And that's- and yeah it was another thing, too, as we moved into the third season of, why are these people still together. You know the second year they had realized they were family but were not emotionally evolved enough to explain, to acknowledge that. Third year where they are together and you begin to see- you know Hardison sees this as his crime college. And he loves these people, but this is his crime college. You know, Eliot is beginning to see the path to his redemption. You know, Nate is the acknowledgement of his identity. Parker is becoming a human being. You know, everyone has their reason they're there. You know, Sophie's reason to be there is basically, she had come back to run the crew while Nate was in prison. And to be acknowledged as the co-lead. This is a great scene. By the way, you play this wonderfully, this is a big turn here.
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: Thanks.
Chris: It was- you know this was a tricky reveal here because- and I'll say that on the hypnosis front I consulted with a hypnotist-
[Laughter]
Chris: This is not just me making stuff up out of thin air.
John: I'm the one to make stuff up out of thin air, Chris actually researches shit.
Chris: And in fact, the hypnotist said to me that if somebody had a- was extremely proficient in something at an early age, whether it was athletics or music, that he could put someone in a deep trance state and return them to their ability, that their life experience is kinda what's gotten in the way of their ability, that it's all up there in their head. And that's all that we’re saying here, we’re not saying that he made you- Nate made Hardison able to play, Hardison always knew how to play, it was just cleaning out the cobwebs to get you back.
Aldis: Right.
John: Also Sophie's- Gina's playing that complicitness in a really nice way, which is she went with it, she didn't like it, and she doesn't necessarily like what Nate’s become. Also fun, you had really focused on this is, during the research, the idea that prison is a bad idea for most criminals. Most criminals just go in and become better criminals. It's- they call it crime college, you know, and what tricks had Nate picked up while he was inside.
Chris: And look ultimately that the one of the things that makes Nate able to run this crew from- is that he's not a nice guy. And that he will push any button to get whatever he wants done. And that makes him, I think, a better leader, and a more interesting character than if he's just you know got your back every time you're in trouble.
John: We cannot say this enough: Nate Ford is not a nice man.
Chris: Yeah.
Aldis: Right.
John: But that's what's required in the world that we set up in this show. And that's Scheherezade Job! Amazing job, both of you. I really wanna say this, I came to this as a viewer and this is one of my favorite episodes of the season, and of the entire run.
Aldis: It's one of my favorites.
John: I told the first time I watched this, I told Chris I wish my name was on it. I wish that I had the ‘Written by’ credit.
Chris: And you, you know I made a little comment to you back in season one, and boy did you make me happy.
Aldis: It happened.
John: It’s great.
Aldis: Well thank you man I enjoyed it. The script was one of my best scripts, one of my favorite scripts from the entire three seasons, so.
John: Thanks man.
Chris: Thanks.
John: Alright stay tuned more coming up.
Aldis: Peace.

You sighed as you finished your last paper. It was finals week and you were officially done with your exams and term papers for the semester. The last couple of weeks were rough and no one knew that more than you and your boyfriend Calum who has been by your side through this whole stressing process.
You smiled to yourself as you remembered the encouraging words that Calum often said to you. He knew how hard you worked in school and at your part time job in a law firm, and you appreciated how much he cared for you in times of stress and frustrations. Always cheering you up from the bleechers as you made a name for yourself.
Calum promised that once you were done with school for the semester, he was going to take you out on a well deserved Holiday, just the two of you and Duke as you celebrated another six months worth of work done. Everything was already planned for the next weekend and you couldn’t wait.
You reread your final essay one more time and decided that it was enough for today and if there were any mistakes left, then you’ll deal with them tomorrow. Now the only thing in your mind was a cozy blanket and a feel good movie. But first, you needed to get some food and drinks for your mini celebratory self care session.
The thought of asking Calum to come join you crossed your mind, but you quickly remembered that tonight was boys night. Every couple of weeks Calum and his friends have a little night out to catch up and decompress all of the stress of the week. Tonight was Calum’s turn to host boys night as they decided to have a quiet night in, so they must be having a good time downstairs and you didn’t want to ruin the mood.
With that thought in mind, you carefully placed your laptop on Calum’s side of the bed and carefully untangled your legs from under the covers so you wouldn't wake up Duke, who snuggled with you every time you had to work to keep you company. You put on one of Calum’s hoodies and headed downstairs trying your best to not make any sound.
Before you even reached the last step of the stairs, you could already hear your boyfriend’s laugh and it made your heart flutter. Even after almost three years of being together, his laugh still gives you butterflies every time you hear it, falling even more in love than what is possible.
Once you were in the kitchen, you started looking into the cupboards as you searched for your favorite snacks, but in the end you were unable to find any, thinking that maybe Calum has hidden them somewhere on the top shelves where he knows you can’t reach.
Letting out a small huff, you debated with yourself the option of climbing up the counter or admitting defeat and go ask your boyfriend for some help. Luckily, you didn’t have to decide as you heard a familiar voice behind you.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite scholar” Said Ashton with a light chuckle “What are you doing here? I thought you’d be out tonight since it’s boys night”
You smiled as you let him wrap his arms around you to give you a hug. Ashton was the first friend you made when you moved to LA a couple of years back, he was the one who introduced you to Calum in the first place, and you were very thankful for having him as a best friend.
“I had to finish up some term papers, so I had to reschedule my girl’s night for tomorrow” You explained to the black haired man “And what are you doing here? Need a refill?” You ask, pointing to the empty glass he was holding.
Ashton nodded, “Yeah, but I also needed a time out. Mitchy is kinda being very obnoxious today” He said with a sigh.
Mitchy Collins was a close friend with the boys for many years now, but you can’t say that he is a friend of yours. It’s not like you haven’t tried to befriend the singer, on the contrary, you both had multiple chances to get to know each other but he either ignored you or made things very awkward between you. And, to be honest, you were not that excited to become his friend either. There was something weird about him, a bad vibe per se, that made you not trust him at all. He was always very loud, obnoxious and downright rude sometimes and it made you very uncomfortable. Both Calum and Ashton knew about your uneasiness with Mitchy, so they didn’t push it too far and you were thankful for that.
“Oh?” You asked, trying to mask your discomfort “What is he saying this time?”
“Just a bunch of bullshit, to be honest. He is very high right now and thinks he’s above everyone else” Ashton said, taking a seat on one of the kitchen island stools. You did the same as you offered him a glass of water.
“Are you high right now?” You chuckled.
“Nope. Calum and I decided to stay clean tonight cause tomorrow we start early in the studio and the weed kinda messes up our pipes” He explains.
“What about Luke and Mikey?”
“They are not here yet, they said they needed to finish up something for a song and then they will meet us here” Ashton shrugged, not giving it too much importance “And what about you, darling? How was your day?”
You began to tell Ashton about how you finally finished the semester and how excited you were for your little getaway with Calum next week. However, every couple of minutes you were interrupted by a loud laugh or an obnoxious comment coming from the living room where the rest of the boys were sitting. Sometimes their loud comments started loud conversations that neither of you could help but overhear, but you did your best to ignore them. But some things are easier said than done.
“I’m telling you man! You can do so much better” You heard Mitchy’s voice echoing through the house, followed by a chuckle from Calum who mumbled something among the lines of “Fuck off”
You furrowed your eyebrows as you stopped the conversation you had with Ashton in order to pay attention to what was being said down the hall. You looked at Ash with a confused face, wondering what they could be saying but at the same time not knowing if you should continue listening to their private affairs. You were about to open up your mouth to continue what you were saying until another comment made by Mitchy caught your attention.
“You have to admit she is the worst sometimes. All she does is boss you around like you are some kind of puppet. She is the definition of annoying”
You sat up straight as you looked at Ashton, who mirrored your puzzled expression.
“Is- is he talking about me?” You asked in a whisper.
Ashton shook his head “I don’t thi-”
“I swear! What does she even do besides work and study all the time? She barely has time for you. You said it yourself! And when she’s not doing any of those things? She’s nagging around and clinging to you like you’re a damn purse! That’s who Y/N is”
You froze in the spot. So they were talking about you… and did Calum really say you don’t have time for him? You don’t even get time to yourself and he knows that! He said he was okay with it, that he understood and supported you through and through… Guess not.
“I still don’t know what you saw in her, dude. She’s just plain boring, playing to be a good girl when in reality she has zero personality” He continued his rant “She does nothing for you! Honestly! I’m surprised you made it this far with that bitch”
You knew that wasn’t true. He never really made an effort to get to know you! how could he be saying all those stuff? You did everything for Calum, all your goals, your plans are for the both of you. How could he know that if he never really talked to you? But you had to admit that that first comment really hurt. You were always doubting yourself at the beginning of your relationship with Calum, always feeling like you weren’t good enough, or pretty enough, or smart or fun or hot… To fight off those kinds of feelings was a difficult job to say the least, but Calum was always there to fight them with you, reassuring you that he loved you. He loved every part of you and he will love you forever.
“Is she at least a decent fuck? Cause I don’t see her doing anything remotely interesting in bed” Mitchy laughed “If she’s not she’s just wasting your time”
You noticed how Ashton suddenly stiffened next to you when he heard Mitchy’s comments. His knuckles turned white as he gripped his fists at the side of his body “Okay, that’s enough” But you were quicker, grabbing onto his shirt as a sign to make him stay there with you and not cause a scene.
His eyes found yours and you could see the anger build up on them, you knew that he would defend you no matter what and you loved him for that. But you knew Calum would defend you over there, he wouldn't let him talk about you that way.
“Ash, please” You pleaded, tugging on his shirt for him to take a seat again. But he preferred to stay standing next to you, almost like guarding and shielding you from any other comment that might hurt your feelings.
“I can’t let him talk about you like that!” He hissed. But you just shook your head.
“I know, Ash. I know. But Cal will handle it” You said confidently, trying to keep yourself together.
You knew Calum would not let those comments slide. Even if you weren’t in the room with him, those comments were awful and very hurtful, no one deserves to be treated like that, especially by someone as close as a friend of his.
You waited for his intervention, but your heart crushed when the only thing you heard from him were laughs.
“She’s a good fuck” That’s all he said.
The grip you had on Ashton’s shirt suddenly flattered as you fought the lump in your throat “Y-you said he wasn’t high” You whispered to Ashton, who was just as frozen as you were after hearing his best mate’s comment.
“He’s not” He said, standing tall next to you. As much as he wanted to go in there and give the guys an earful, he knew you needed him here with you.
Out of all the things Mitchy has said, out of all the insults and belitments, that’s what he says? That you’re a good fuck?
You knew that you could be annoying sometimes when you got happy. You just wanted to share that happiness with everyone around you and you thought… you thought that Calum liked that. You were not a bad girlfriend, you always tried your best to make him as happy as he makes you; to love him as much as he loves you, cause he loves you. Doesn’t he?
If he loves you then why is he letting his friend say all of this stuff about you? Why is he not saying anything? Does- does he agree with him?
The tears started rolling silently, half of you not believing what you were hearing while the other half clang to the idea of Calum defending you at some point.
“Oh I know!” Said Mitchy after a while “I can introduce you to someone! Right now, actually. Her name’s Vanessa and she’s crazy hot, dude”
He can’t be serious.
Ashton looked at you with pleading, furious eyes. Almost begging you to go and let him deal with them. But you grabbed his hand and made him stay. This has to be it. This has to be the chance for Calum to say something.
“You’re kidding right?” The curly haired man asked. Making you let out a breath of relief.
“Not at all! Think about it. We go, you meet her, you fuck her and done!” He said like it was nothing “Y/N will never find out cause she’s stuck up her ass. Your fans will never know or they won’t care cause they don’t even know you are in a ”relationship” to begin with! You are single to their eyes. And you get a decent fuck from someone who looks the part and knows how to have fun! It’s a win - win!”
Your heart stopped as you waited for Calum to answer. To tell Mitchy to go fuck himself. To tell him that he loves you and would never do that to you.
“I don’t know, man. I’ll think about it” Calum shrugged “Plus, if we go out I’ll have to tell Y/N. She’s upstairs finishing some shit for her university”
“Fucking hell… see! I told you! A stuck up bitch” Mitchy said, making Calum laugh.
But their laughs and the rest of the conversation grew numb to your ears. Your body trembled as the tears came flooding in, holding in the sobs that were tearing up your throat. How could he? He was really thinking of cheating on you.
You could feel every little piece of your heart shattered as you search for some kind of leverage that could hold you still so you don’t fall and break. You felt ill, disgusted and heartbroken.
As you tried to get up, you felt your knees buckle and almost fell to the ground if it weren’t for Ashton holding you up. He was still there and you knew by the look in his eyes that he was not going anywhere.
He was just as disgusted and angry as you. He couldn’t believe all the things that were said tonight, all the things that Calum failed to make it right and hurt you in the process. He knew that if he were in that room that the conversation would’ve died the moment it started. He would never let them talk about you that way.
“I-I can’t-“ You cried, moments away from hyperventilating “I can’t stay here, Ash”
He nodded, pulling you into a hug and kissing the top of your head for reassurance “Go upstairs, love. Grab your stuff and we’re getting out of here. You’re staying with me tonight, okay?” Ashton let go of you and started walking towards the living room where the rest of the guys were still talking.
“Ash” You called, making him turn around “D-don’t make a scene, please”
He sighed as he muttered a quiet “okay” before turning around, leaving you alone as you went upstairs to grab the bare necessities to spend the night, you’ll figure out the rest later. Right now you just needed to get out of here.
You opened the bedroom door and almost collapsed at the entrance. Duke came running towards you, sensing that there was something wrong as he started to whine and tried to jump into your arms. That only made you cry harder as you realized that you were leaving him too. You fell to the floor and patted the puppy as he tried to wipe off your tears with his tongue, breaking your heart even more.
A loud voice cut you out of your thoughts. You could hear Ashton yelling, although you couldn’t exactly figure out what he was saying. This meant that Calum knew you heard everything and that, if he had at least some decency left in him, he would come and get you. You needed to act fast.
You stood up and grabbed the first big bag that you could find. Inside of it you threw your laptop, your books, your charger, some clothes and some bathroom essentials. You debated on whether or not to take with you a picture of you, Calum and Duke… it was your favorite memory with them. But the damage was stronger than the nostalgia, so you threw that picture to the ground before you left the room that once belonged to you.
You were running down the stairs when you passed Calum running up them. You ignored him as he stopped in his tracks and followed you to the hall.
“Y/N!” He said, desperate to try and stop you “Y/N, baby, please! Hear me out!”
“Hear what?! I already heard enough!” You said as you turned around.
Calum’s face was almost unrecognizable. The fear in his eyes, the desperation in his voice and his close off body language was not something you’d normally see in him. The “I fucked up” expression showed all the regret in the world, yet you didn’t seem to care at the moment.
“I. Heard. All of it, Calum” You cried through gritted teeth, anger boiling inside of you as you stared at the man you thought you’d marry “All of it and not once did I hear you say something to try and defend me. How do you think that made me feel?!”
“Baby-“ He tried, but you cut him off.
“I work my ass off all day and night for you, for us. For me to go and see you on tour like you ask me to, knowing damn well I would go to the ends of this fucking earth for you! Catching up extra classes and shifts so I can go with you. I cancel everything to be with you. I gave up everything for us to be together. I barely even have time for myself as I try my best to be something worthy of you!” Your tears were staining your face, but you pushed away the pain for a moment, knowing that once you break down it’s over “I try my best to be a good girlfriend, a good friend! I loved you with all my heart and this is what I get after almost three years? A good fuck? That 's it?”
Calum’s world fell to the floor as he tried hard to fight off the lump in his throat, whispering in a broken voice “Loved?”
“That’s all you get from it?” You ask defeated “Calum I would’ve never let my friends call you names, insult you or offend you in any way. I would’ve gone to the ends of the world for you, defended you till the day I die. All because I trusted you to do the same for me and you failed me, Calum. You broke me. You let him call me a bitch, a stuck up, worthless, stupid, bossy, annoying… should I go on? Cause those words are now printed in my memory, next to you agreeing to all of those things. Is that what you think of me?”
“Baby, I swear it’s not like that!” He said, grabbing your hand and trying to make you stay “I fucked up! I know! You are right, I failed you and you don’t know how much I hate myself for it! But please, love. You know I could never think of you like that… you are the most wonderful person there is! You are kind, smart, loving, beautiful-“
“Did you cheat on me?” You ask bluntly.
“What?”
“Did you cheat on me?”
“No!” Calum said instantly “No, I would never!”
You nodded “Yet, you thought of it.”
Calum opened his mouth to say something, but you cut him off again “Is that why you never made our relationship public? So you could have a free pass whenever you want to? Cause I thought it was to protect our privacy, for us to have a normal life in the midst of the chaos that is to date a celebrity. When you told all of that I thought “wow, this is a guy with integrity and with values” Yet I don’t know what to believe now. I thought you loved me-“
“I do love you-“
“I thought you loved me” You said, the tears were already dry as the anger came flooding in “But you don’t hurt the people you love. You don’t break them like you did to me. You don’t let anyone hurt them, even if they are not in the room with you. And you don’t cheat on them like you were going to tonight with that girl Vanessa while I waited here like an idiot for you to come home and spend some time with me”
You pull your hand out of his grasp, holding onto your bag as you heard Calum cry “Y/N-“
“You are free to do whatever you want now, Calum. Cause to the eyes of your fans you are single, and I am as well”
You turned around and saw Ashton waiting by the door with his keys in his hand. He opened up the door for you as you walked by, ignoring all of Calum’s pleads for you to stay.
“So you are just going to leave?!” He yelled, not knowing what else to do. “Whe- Where are you taking her Ashton?”
The black haired man made sure that you were already sitting in his car before turning around to face his friend “I’m taking here with me and away from you cause that’s what she needs now. So don’t bother calling or showing up cause you are not welcome right now. And don’t even try to call Luke or Michael cause they already know and we won’t support you on this” Ashton said as calm as he could. He already told him off, but the anger of seeing you cry in front of him still resided in him.
“I- I love her , Ash! You can’t just take her away from me. I’m her boyfriend!”
“Correction, you were her boyfriend. And I can take her away and I will cause she asked me to” He said taking an intimidating step closer to Calum “Cause while you were here talking trash about her behind her back, planning on how to cheat on her. I was back there, holding her while she broke down crying cause she couldn’t believe that her boyfriend didn’t stand up for her and let a fucking stranger insult her all night long! You weren’t there to see her eyes water or her lip tremble. You weren’t there when she begged me with tears in her eyes to not make a scene cause all she wanted to do was to get out of here. She is the most amazing person ever, she is a light in all of our lives and you extinguished her without a second thought. You might be my friend, but she is too and I love her and I will defend her no matter what, she doesn’t deserve this kind of crap you just showed to her. So don’t count on me to try and help you get her back, I won’t blame her if she doesn’t”
Calum felt small as Ashton walked away from him, closing the door with a bang and leaving him all alone in his big house. Well, almost.
“Dude, that was intense” Mitchy laughed as he placed a hand on Calum’s shoulder “So, wanna go now?”
A blind rage fell over Calum as he heard the mocking laughs of his so-called friend, acting like his life just didn’t fall apart in front of him.
Calum grabbed the singer by the neck of his shirt and pushed him forcefully against the wall “You are going to get out of my house and never come back. You hear me?!” He yelled to his face, almost letting out steam from his nostrils as he was sure he could kill him right now.
“Dude, what’s wrong with yo-“
Calum quickly grabbed a bottle from his nearby mini bar, suddenly gaining all the courage he should’ve had hours ago, and throwed it to Mitchy’s feet, making him jump “Get the fuck out!” He yelled, grabbing bottle after bottle, glass after glass and throwing them into the ground “OUT!”
Only when the last bottle was smashed into pieces did he realize he was completely alone.
And only then did he allow himself to cry for the loss of the love of his life, walking away from him and leaving him to pick up the pieces of two broken hearts.

Okay, so, about a month ago, my brain just conjured up probably the most random au possible: Legally Blonde Adam Banks/banksway au.
Believe me, it's as chaotic as it sounds, but lowkey, I'm kind of in love with it.
Adam never joins the Ducks because there aren't any Ducks to join. Bombay never had to do community service with District Five so there was no one to realise that Adam was on the wrong team all along. He continues to play for the Hawks and, eventually, the Eden Hall Warriors, never getting the chance to become the well-rounded individual we know him as because he's never known anything other than his rich privilege and the "win at all costs" mentality. He ends up going to college on a hockey scholarship and not straight to the NHL or the AHL (shocking, I know). While he's unsure of his major and where his life is heading, he finds solace in the fraternity he joins, which, by some sheer twist of fate, Jesse and Guy have also miraculously joined.
And his life is perfect for a while. He's the star player on yet another school's hockey team, all of his fraternity brothers adore him (though, it took a bit for Jesse to warm up to him), and his secret, not-really-official thing with his former teammate is going swimmingly. (Not to slander my boy, but I was picturing Larson for the role of Warner, purely because the alternative seems to be Rick Riley and that's kind of an unsettling image-- though, maybe that's the point?)
But then his secret boyfriend breaks up with him because, with his high aspirations in life, he needs to be "more serious." And dating Adam Banks, a guy in a stereotypical fraternity who only really knows hockey, in 2001 isn't exactly the white-picket-fence life he's looking for if he's going to be a politician.
And since this non-Duck Adam clearly doesn't have the braincells that canon Adam does, in his devastation, he decides it's a brilliant idea to prove that he is serious by applying to Harvard Law. His parents try to talk him out of it, since they want him to pursue his dreams of hockey, but being a lawyer is a respectable career so they can't exactly argue with him.
He gets accepted thanks to Jesse, Guy, and the rest of his fraternity helping him study for the LSAT and keeping him on track. He's trying his darndest when he gets to Harvard, but (despite his struggle not being as significant as Elle Woods'), not a lot of people take him seriously as an aspiring lawyer, considering him a meathead jock who only got in because of daddy's money.
And that's about the time he meets Linda, who he vaguely remembers from his time at Eden Hall. What he doesn't remember is her being so competitive, because she's deliberately beating him at every turn, just trying (and kind of succeeding) at making him look like a fool. To make matters worse, all of the sudden, she's engaged to his ex-boyfriend, who is very adamant about never telling anyone that he and Adam were more than friends (because, you know, early 2000s homophobia and such).
But things get a little brighter for Adam when he meets Charlie, an undergrad teacher's assistant who gives him all sorts of advice about surviving the school. He introduces him to Professor Bombay, who Charlie claims is the only reason he survived his first year and quickly becomes Adam's favourite teacher, and Charlie's childhood friend Connie, who aspires to be a state senator one day. Charlie's charismatic and even if he's not the most well-liked person at Harvard, Adam feels a weight lifted off his shoulders once he becomes friends with him and Connie. Things become a little easier.
Just before he and Charlie start getting really close, Adam meets Casey at a local diner on a day he's feeling particularly upset and alone, and the two start bonding almost immediately. (He bullshits his way into scaring an ex-husband of hers with legal repercussions he has no idea about and she basically adopts him in return.) It takes him an embarrassing amount of time to realise that it's not just a coincidence that Casey and Charlie share the same last name, which results in poor Adam feeling extremely embarrassed for not connecting the dots sooner while Charlie's having the time of his life teasing him for it. Eventually, when the dust of that settles, Charlie and Adam join forces to set Casey and Bombay up, their schemes borderline ridiculous at times, but they'rere not exactly failing.
And after realising he isn't the Warriors moron she thought he was for going on five years, Linda starts warming up to Adam, which is surprisingly nice? She figures out on her own that there used to be something between him and her fiancé, and is more understanding of Adam than she is mad. Linda actually spills to him the lengths Adam's ex had to go through to actually get into Harvard, aligning more with the rumours about Adam's acceptance being bought than having the aptitude for the law that Linda and Adam share. (This may be me saying Linda and Adam friendship rights, what of it-- /lh)
To make things all the better, Bombay chooses Adam, Linda, Connie, Charlie, and Adam's ex to be on his legal team for a murder case he's responsible for (and while he knows about Adam and Charlie's ploys to hook him up with Charlie's mom, they're his favourites, so he doesn't say anything).
And this is just so much better than anything he had before. After all the initial unpleasantness, Linda and Connie become some of the most genuine friends he's ever had. He misses Guy and Jesse, of course, and he'd never take them for granted, but back when he was with them at the fraternity, a part of him was still being as superficial as he had been in middle and high school. Being authentic for once in his life is liberating.
And Charlie's just about the most considerate person Adam's ever met. Adam doesn't even mind when Charlie teases him over his absurd and juvenile insults because he's just this source of light for Adam, supporting him and always pushing him to be the best version of himself. His ex hardly even exists when Charlie's around because his energy is just so contagious that Adam starts falling for him long before he even realises it. (And when Jesse and Guy come to visit, there's a moment where it all clicks and the four of them realise their history together, however brief. I strongly maintain that they'd be that Starkid meme: "Fucking Hawks? We hated you guys!" "We hated ourselves!" But it does make Adam realise how much better off he would've been if he had Charlie and his team when he was little instead of the Hawks, and it just further makes him understand that people like Larson and Rick Riley just aren't worth it.)
But there's also another revelation Adam goes through. Between helping Casey, his rigorous studies, and his position working with/for Bombay, something just clicks for Adam. He likes being able to help people, fighting for the good guys who may not have the resources they need to be properly defended. Practicing law calls to him in the same way hockey did; it's the feeling of knowing this is what he's meant to do. He still loves hockey, he always will, but it helps him finally grasp that there's a world for him outside of it; when hockey ends for him, there's something equally as rewarding that he can pursue, which was something he never thought he would have.
I haven't a single coherent thought about this au past that point except for these little inklings of an ending--
There's absolutely no SA scene like the movie had; Bombay's just Adam and Charlie's favourite teacher and those are his boys, so he's going to make sure they succeed as if his life depends on it.
With that said, Bombay believes in them both enough to let them finish the case because with their joined determination/stubbornness (and Adam's in with the defendant), Adam and Charlie are a force to be reckoned with and he knows it.
After a handful of comedic failures, they do end up succeeding at their attempts to set Casey and Bombay up, and they start living together sometime during the kids' Junior year :) (All I'm asking is for one (1) story with a Casey/Gordon endgame-- I just think they're neat--)
Linda dumps her fiancé (as she should) and goes on to live her best wlw life as a successful lawyer. (If I'm not mistaken, Linda's actress actually is a lawyer, which is a pretty cool fun fact!!)
Adam and Linda's ex gets the Warner ending because, man, screw that guy /lh (rip to Larson if this is him, I'm sure you'll get a nice endgame in some other universe, king)
Honorary mention for Connie, who was going long distance with Guy this entire time to everyone but Jesse's shock, and they get their Game Changers endgame of State Senator Connie Moreau and stay-at-home dad Guy Germaine with their seven -- sorry, three -- children :)
Adam's an absolute bundle of nerves after graduation, which definitely concerns Charlie. So, when he asks if he's okay, Adam starts nervously monologuing about their time together until he runs out of breath. He ends it by proposing to him, and Charlie smiles so surely at him when he says yes. They both become damn good public defenders and stay engaged until the point they can legally get married, but they're practically husbands long before that happens.
Also, if I did my math right (which I should’ve, it’s my entire basis for my Share Your Address series), the Ducks’ would have the same graduating class year as Elle Woods anyway (2004), which is pretty neat!
Thank you once again for listening to me ramble :)
