y'all have got to stop interacting with posts that contain uncredited gifs istg
using my gifs in your post without crediting me gets you blocked without pardon, I am sick of chasing after credit for my work
(also in that same vein: gifmakers can see when you use their gifs with credit because we get a notification if you do, and not every gifmaker wants their gifs included in other people's fics/posts. please try asking us first, esp if you want to use it for explicit content.)
#sorry but I am tired and salty#seeing a post with stolen gifs get 80+ notes in this fandom is gonna be my villain origin story#also I have chased several people down for including my gifs in smutty fics lol#I don't mind smut but I would like a choice about the inclusion of my work in other people's smut if that makes sense#ANYWAY I could no longer keep this an inside thought#killytalks

I’m too tired to post an essay but my girl was just a victim of bad writing and a lack of critical thinking from the audience okay I love her.

Actually I would like to shine a spotlight on the role of women in Jekyll and Hyde because in most versions of the story they’re there to be victims, defined by their suffering. Their personality is subsumed by their role: hapless sacrificial lamb, damsel in distress, battered whore, lover that gets a nasty taste of Jekyll’s true nature. Out of all of Hyde’s victims in the original book, the two who die and are named are men (Carew and Lanyon); the trampled little girl and the slapped match seller are but blips on the radar.
Fast forward to almost any 20th century movie adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde and the female characters added to the story so that it isn’t an entirely male cast (and to cudgel a romance into it, be it needed or not) almost always fit into one of two slots: Jekyll’s love interest, who sooner or later is victimized by Hyde… or Hyde’s punching bag. The latter usually is a sex worker he happily abuses, reinforcing both their positions in society— he the wealthy white man, she the un-person no-one would miss. And yes, we’re supposed to pity her, feel bad for her. Cringe when she dislikes Hyde and fear when she’s intrigued by him. There’s something sinister about how Jekyll and Hyde adaptations are morbidly fascinated with the killing of sex workers, the same way there’s something sinister about Stevenson’s refusal to mention women unless one is getting trampled underfoot.
Listen… I love Jekyll and Hyde to bits, I really do, but at the core of the story there is a hatred of women that is projected onto the characters and echoed with each movie, TV episode, and comic, even to this day. Women don’t matter and when they do they’re defined by their tortuous relationship to Jekyll/Hyde. I’m generalizing, of course, but it’s an upsetting trend.
I feel as if the intense homosocialization and hyperfocus on male professionalism in the original novella had been replicated in the worst ways with the way it is envisioned in pop culture, Hyde almost always painted preying on a random woman like he’s a vampire. There’s nothing wrong with gay subtext; there’s nothing wrong with a that focus; but Jekyll and Hyde as a piece of fiction is a fucking sausage party and I’m so tired of women being thrown at it like a bone to a pack of rabid dogs.
And then the fandom has the gall to go, “well the book is about gay men”. Don’t get angry at the (fictional) women getting raped and murdered- get angry at the people who decided all they have to do is get raped and murdered. And then, make the change yourself, since you’re so enlightened.
#jekyll and hyde#dr jekyll and mr hyde#the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde#long post#sorry I’m salty. I am so so tired also.#Ivy Peterson. Sarah Crawford. Nina the Dancer. Lucy Harris. Gwyndolyn. You all deserved better. You all deserved so much better.#every adaptation that treats women like their own people#and gives them dreams and aspirations beyond ‘fucking Jekyll’ and ‘not being hate crimed by Hyde’#I am kissing you on the lips

I’d like to ask a question about Kokichi’s character in Chapter 4, specifically with him seeing the “Truth of the outside world.” Yes, it was a big shift in his character to suddenly want killing, but I’m not entirely convinced that it was because of him losing his mind from seeing the outside world. I think at least some of it was a facade to make others think of him as a bad guy/the mastermind; to make his Chapter 5 character more believable so his plan would work. What do you think?
Well, I'm not here to convince you one way or another.
My theories and personal interpretations are just that--personal interpretations and theories. The narrative is web of interpretations and I only hold a single thread of it.
To me, personally, I think Kokichi's behavioral shift is far too drastic, going from "I'm going to beat this killing game" to "I'm going to become a blackened and kill someone", to plotting with Gonta to mercy kill the whole class. I think this jump has only one true source--the madness of seeing the end of the world you and your fellow classmates have been killing each other over.
I know it's a difficult feeling to imagine--but that's probably why you think differently than me. I cannot fathom what it's like to see the end of the world--and how I personally would react to that, aside from pure devastation. I don't think any human being can truly comprehend what "the end of the world" would look or feel like--which is why the concept often appears in horror plots and the sort. I don't think our brains can truly comprehend becoming an endangered species, the world we knew to be suddenly inhabitable, to be on the brink of death and demise and know that everything you once loved has already left you behind.
So I ask you this as my answer: Do you really think that any human being on this earth could handle the end of the world?
My answer to my own question is: No. I don't think any human could mentally handle seeing what Kokichi saw--and that's why I don't think his "I am the Mastermind" plot is the cause of his personality shift during chapter 4.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm sorry if this comes off as curt or rude--but the amount of asks I've gotten specifically about Chapter 4, and about my Mercy Kill Theory, with the sentiment of "Oh your theory must be incorrect, somehow", is far too grating on me. Never the mind asks that go and try to find loop holes to prove the theory wrong, but I digress--that is neither here nor there.
#Kokichi Ouma#Danganronpa V3#DRV3#Theory discussion#Sighs.#I'm sorry Anon I'm /sure/ you mean well but.#The amount of times I've gotten asks on my personal about this theory--everything about chapter 4#from Kokichi losing his mind over seeing the dead world to the mercy kill plot itself#people kept trying so hard to prove my theory wrong#For some reason this specific theory is one people are especially prone to knee-jerk reactions akin to ''No this is wrong!''#I don't mean to be so salty but. Why. Why this theory.#Why is THIS theory the one people try to disprove to me constantly.#Especially more so when I said in the original theory post that I did not want to argue or discuss it like this?#In the future I might just ignore asks regarding my chapter 4 theories. I am tired of answering them.#Sorry again I know this probably comes off as salty and bitter#but please also understand that when you get people constantly trying to prove you wrong over a theory that--#--you don't even want to have arguments over because it's a bit of a personal one for you?#It's so exasperating.

tumblr algorithm stop feeding me takes that this show is just a silly goofy comedy that shouldn’t include death or that Izzy is the token disabled elder queer on the show where an actual disabled elder queer is literally the romantic lead or that Lucius and Pete being called “mateys” is diluting their gayness because it’s not “husbands” or that it’s sexist that Zheng lost her fleet and later prioritized her love for a man or that Ed is Izzy’s abuser because we conveniently forgot all of season 1 or that trauma is never followed through with because sometimes actions are used instead of words or that Ed learned nothing because the inn was apparently a whim as if he hasn’t been obsessing over retirement from day 1 I swear did we even watch the same show?? I literally feel like I’m in backwards land?
I have a really novel concept for y’all complaining about character’s arcs not being fully resolved or healed and that’s called there is supposed to be another season of this show
I also have another really novel concept as to why every single character did not have a one on one trauma apology session and so much time was spent on Ed and Stede and that is because this is literally the Ed and Stede show and also sometimes parallels are meant to be inferred and extrapolated because that is what efficient storytelling does instead of spoonfeeding you
And my most novel concept of all as to why some beloved characters had less screen time is because Max is a massive jerk and cut the budget
Y’all this wasn’t personal and maybe this show was never about Izzy maybe the show called our flag means death is actually about death maybe sad does not equal homophobic letdown maybe the brown gay character introduced as the love interest from day 1 gets to outlive the angry white guy that had a redemption arc after actively bullying and trying to break up every gay couple for a season I don’t know what to tell you just can you please let non-white people have this arc for once without assuming it’s an attack on you I’m BEGGING y’all
#I’m sorry for overusing y’all I grew up country lmao#anyway. critical thinking when#I didn’t want to make more posts about this I’m just tired and seeing people denounce the show as homophobic#for killing the subtextually gay internalized homophobia character#in favor of the canonically gay brown protagonist#makes me feel more and more uncomfortable the more I see it#WHY do you defend him over the actual gay people esp. poc gay people like make it make sense#be sad he died I have a million posts about that but this strawmanning is getting concerning#bc what does this mean of your ability to recognize real homophobia#it’s not about you!!! and if you think his death means something about you PLEASE unpack that#I had a lovely night with friends and am not sober lol so if I seem salty that’s why I’m sorry for being a broken record#this is not anti-Izzy this is anti-baffling takes on Izzy#I’m sorry we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled kiss gif programming soon I don’t like these posts either#I just can’t resist a good hill#ofmd#ofmd season 2#ofmd spoilers#ofmd s2 spoilers#fandom crit#our flag means death

Some unsolicited unpopular marvel opinions:
Loki was 100% responsible for destroying every bit of trust Thor ever had in him and if the fandom could get over making Loki their uwu baby they'd be able to recognize that Thor deserved better. Loki gets no rights for having daddy issues, actually; by the time you’re an adult, you are responsible for your own shitty behavior.
Tony was actually, genuinely wrong to support the Accords and the weight of his teammates' "betrayal" should not in fact be more highly valued than the actually immoral choice he was supporting
honestly maybe the entire fandom just has a betrayal kink? like i know we all grew up when those horrendous "all their friends betrayed them and now they've gone and found new friends in a crossover universe who are better in every way" fics were so popular on fanfiction.net but like. those weren't good fics. and their revenge plots weren't satisfying. and also they were always out of character. and just because you saw a chance to fulfill all your betrayal drama fantasies because of how many people sided with Cap doesn't make Tony's choice the right one, it just means you weren't paying attention to the political intrigue because you cared more about "oh no! Tony's parents were killed by a guy who's inevitably going to get a "redemption" arc (insofar as you need redemption after being brainwashed???) and Awful Steve cares more about his best friend from the War than Tony's Feelings! How Dare Awful Steve do that?"
Hawkeye's life is (on the comics side of things, which I know many of us draw on when we need to flesh things out) canonically sadder than Tony Stark's and none of y'all were ready to deal with that, so you had to make your uwu baby's life harder to make him more important. Which is fine, I do it when I'm in the mood to write sadfic too, but like. Clint was right there. He already existed. You didn't need to give his backstory to Tony so many times.
Also Thor's life (in mcu canon, right there, in front of your face) is canonically sadder than Tony Stark's and y'all completely ignore him so. You're missing out focusing on the ambiguous daddy issues instead of the victim of both parental and sibling abuse who watched his entire culture be destroyed. Just saying.
on the one hand, sibling fics are fun. on the other hand, anyone tagging "loki is a good sibling" needs to acknowledge that they're writing a wholeass au which does not exist after the first Thor movie. Loki is explicitly and intentionally written as a bad sibling in every movie. To be fair, Thor is explicitly and intentionally written as an infuriating sibling, but that doesn't change the fact that Loki is worse.
Loki got a redemption arc because he was popular, not because he had good or meaningful points or because he was "always supposed to be redeemed." I just need you to know that.
It's nice that Tony got to have a Moment at the end of End Game, but he didn't deserve it. Both in the "he wasn't good enough to earn that kind of moment" and "he didn't acknowledge anything he had done that was bad enough to deserve that kind of end" kind of way. Both are simultaneously true. There are generally three types of arcs that end in a heroic sacrifice, and they are the Mentor, the Paragon, and the Redeemed. Tony was an insufficient mentor to Spider-man to achieve Heroic Sacrifice levels, Captain America was the Paragon, and Loki would have been the Redeemed except that Thanos killed him in the last movie. Tony Stark was, unfortunately, a Mid arc at best, and did not earn the kind of payoff necessary to have gotten the heroic sacrifice.
#rick's rambles#rick's originals#mcu#tony stark#mcu loki#mcu thor#hawkeye#why am i so salty today? i genuinely don’t know#im very tired#im sorry for the whining#im just going to commit some kind of regrettable act if i open another fic where poor tony has to deal with all his mean friends#tony stark and loki deserve zero good things at the moment for me and that will hopefully change soon but thats how it is rn

one of the major problems i find with online discourse about antagonistic characters and storylines sourcing from novels is that some people cant see past what is said to what is meant- and that other people can, but in their perception of the implied lore, make overdue assumptions of plot and character.
for example: in svsss, it is heavily implied that qiu jianluo s/a'ed the original shen qingqiu, thus shaping his outlook on society in general: females are safe, males are not. this leads to point against him in the form of his favouritism for ning yingying, the only (afaik) female qing jing disciple and his habit of finding comfort in brothels. this is misconstrued by the original protagonist in the novel pidw, leading to a false misconception held by our protagonist, shen yuan, that shen qingqiu is a lecherous paedophile.
as the reader, there are a number of context clues given to tell us how that is not the case-- mostly found in the extras-- and are meant to challenge the worldview, make us realize that like shen yuan, we as the audience only know as much as the author will tell us. did shen jiu hate luo binghe specifically because his name reminded him of qiu jianluo? was he jealous of the potential luo binghe had? or was he merely looking for a target to take his anger out on?
it is not mentioned, therefore we do not know, and should not make assumptions on the canon behaviour of this character towards someone else.
however, this is often not understood by the overall fandom: either they completely look past the context clues that tell us, this character is more than they seem and instead jump straight to demonization without first considering context and setting, or they overcompensate for someone by making excuses to justify behaviour we do not have explanations for.
this is the reason why we have people who constantly demean and bully others in fandom: they cannot read or think for themselves past what is clearly shown to them and refuse to challenge the idea that the author may be deliberately feeding unreliable information to make a more interesting story, and it doesnt help that there are people attempting to justify behaviour that is specifically written to be bad.
#last bit was a bit salty but i really am tired of seeing discourse on my fav little guys#some texts follow different standards than you think#i cant count the amt of times that zhou ying threatened to beat xi ping for insolence for tai sui but the moment any of that happens in sv#its all oh poor innocent bingy... he didnt deserve all that#like yeah. he didnt. but thats how it was at the time. sorry that pidw was written with modern values and thus sj is villainized#for being an ancient chinese teacher doing what he did#but thats... not his fault??#ugh. fandom morals make my head fucking hurt#thats why i dislike svsss fandom. every time i go into sj tag my head starts throbbing and i have to hold myself back#ran rambles#svsss#but also generally#fandom#fandom discourse#original shen qingqiu#shen jiu

Truly boggles my goggles how multiple people on here were praising RTD for the finale explicitly to compare him positively to Moffat like bro is literally just what you think Moffat is (minus straight and minus being the actual devil) like deadass Clara is Ruby except done correctly.
FOR REAL. People hated Clara so much for being "too special" as if it wasn't literally her entire plotline that she's just a regular human woman and it was The Doctor making her out to be special just to use her mystery to distract himself from his own grief, but now the exact same plot is happening with Ruby except the writer has given her even less agency and more weird unexplained phenomena and then pointed at the audience and went "haha you suck for thinking this was special" and it's suddenly okay?
Just saying, if Moff wrote a foundling character he wouldn't make her meet this woman who Did Not Raise Her and then immediately start calling her her "real mum" because really Russell??? REALLY??? What a slap in the face to every adoptive or foster parent who put their entire lives and energy into raising a child only to be told they're still playing second fiddle to someone whose only role in raising that child was to pop them out and dump them on a doorstep 20 years ago
#sorry for getting salty but GODS i'm tired of RTD stans#and as someone who grew up without a father i can only imagine how that ending would hit to an adoptee#eughsgkjsh#rtd critical#anonymous#answered#anyway I am the number one amy pond and clara oswald defender meet me in the PIT haters

Controversial take coming in but I’m pretty sure that if Jeff had been the one to endanger Dustin by telling Jason his name and connection to Eddie instead of Gareth, yall would’ve characterized him as “the betrayer” in many many fics. And here we are with Gareth as Eddie’s one and only bestie with a whole ass personality while making Jeff little more than a bland background character in like 80% of fanon. Is it time to say the R word or are yall just copy-pasting tropes and characterizations from other writers without an ounce of critical thinking or bothering to use your own creativity?
i can already feel the “i wrote this fic where jeff is/ does x” replies coming in and good for you, then this post is not directed at you.
#sorry not sorry#ik this sounds salty but i am sick and tired of this shit#justice for jeff#don't mind me rambling about stranger things

Life series Grian is cruel because everyone in the life series is cruel. There’s killings and betrayals and thefts. Everyone in the life series is kind, including Grian. There’s jokes and alliances and trades.
ANON YOU ARE OPENING A FLOOD GATE. I AM SO SORRY IN ADVANCE
(also I feel like I should preface that like. I'm not claiming to be c!grian expert and my own interpretation may not even be fully accurate to his character??? aka if anything seems out of character I am Sorry fjgfhgf)
ANYWAYS -- right so when I say the word “cruel” I’m talking about it in an,,,, emotional sense??? like, he doesn't go out of his way to target people and bully them emotionally, I guess??? he isn't cruel with their emotions???? I have no idea if that makes any sense. I'm not gonna go out my way and claim that grian is a "perfect uwu innocent boy" because he's not. no one in the life series is (and that's not even grian's character outside of traffic LMAO). the entire purpose of the game is to be the last man standing, and that means killing. that means betrayal.
but there is a fine line between being cruel to survive and being a villain.
and traffic!grian is not a villain.
traffic!grian is kind, and loyal. he feels guilt for his actions. grian plays to survive, but if you have his loyalty, you have it for the entire game.
I've seen so many people look at grian's actions in the previous session (where he laughs off joel's death and joins up with pearl and bigb) and say that grian was evil for it. but let's actually look at what grian was doing leading up to joel's death, shall we?
he didn't look for other teammates until he was certain that joel wasn't going to survive. they had already lost jimmy, so he knew he was going to be alone. he offered joel an hour. he kept telling joel to take his life so joel could survive just a little longer. he straight up tells pearl and bigb that he has to go check on joel, that he has to say goodbye or else he was going to regret not getting the chance. everything grian did in that final episode was to keep jimmy and joel alive for as long as possible. and when he finally lost joel? there was silence. he stood there and stared. "I didn't even see it." he sounded so remorseful as he said it.
did he laugh off their deaths? yes. but come on people! grian's entire character is downplaying his emotions! he laughs things off and hides his emotions! he gave us, the viewers, plenty of clues to his true feelings! he has to say goodbye to joel or he'll regret it. he makes graves for jimmy and joel. he was more than willing to give them some of his time to keep them alive. he laughs off their deaths but that's just a wall he's putting up between himself and everyone else. when looking at traffic!grian, you can't just look at his words. you need to look at his actions as well.
he makes a joke about keeping joel alive but you need to look deeper than that. you need to look at the "I couldn't do anything more to help him." that's hidden in there. with grian you need to read between the lines!
and if you STILL think that traffic!grian is a villain, don't worry, I have more examples.
let's take a look at the most obvious depiction of grian's tragic character.
third life.
whether you ship them or view them as friends, grian's story with scar is still a tragedy! he spends the entire series following scar around because of his debt, and ends up sticking around after his debt is cleared because he wants to see scar win. he wants to help scar still. he's chaotic and a menace and full of bloodlust, but that doesn't make him a villain. he's playing the game. the same game that everyone else is playing.
look at the final scene of the third life finale. grian wanted to win with scar. he wanted them to win together. they planned to die together. and then the cactus ring happens and grian wins. look me dead in the eyes as grian says "Oh I don't feel so good." before jumping to his death and tell me that grian is a villain. that's one of the cases where grian's guilt is the most clear.
let's also not forget all of the deals he makes in every series? the promises he tries to keep? returning scar's things to him in last life even though he didn't have to? giving skizz a totem? setting an ender porter with him so if skizz needs him he can come help? because he wanted skizz to stay alive for as long as possible?
grian is kind. and he cares about people. neither of these things are the qualities of a villain!
he's playing in a death game, just like everyone else, and he's playing to survive. of course he's going to betray certain people (not his allies though. never his allies), he's going to steal and kill. he's going to laugh as he pulls off a successful kill because yes he may not be a villain but he's chaotic and bloodthirsty just like everyone else.
grian is not cruel because he laughed off jimmy and joel's deaths. he is not evil because he joined pearl and bigb after he lost the bad boys.
this is just a personal frustration but too many people in this fandom are quick to jump on calling grian a villain in the traffic series when every other character is doing the same thing as he is. but yet no one else gets called evil for it??? some people are so quick to make grian out to be an asshole when he's not. can he act like an ass? yes, absolutely. but that doesn't make one. I've seen some absolutely wild characterizations on grian, and some of them are just.... Yikes
some people are so quick to make grian out to be the bad guy that they don't consider the actions that lead up to that moment.
THAT BEING ASIDE.... tldr, grian isn't a villain, he's playing in a death game and the aim is to survive. he's a loyal teammate and is more than willing to fight for his allies. please stop calling him a villain thank you
#mochi speaks#some of you need to learn critical thinking skills because not everything that happens on screen is what's Actually going on#sorry JGFJHGF#I DIDN'T MEAN TO GET SALTY IN THE TAGS#BUT ALSO I'VE SEEN SO MANY TAKES#SO MANY BAD TAKES#AND I AM TIRED /lh

Writing review: Saints row 2022 is an example of overly safe writing
disclaimer: I have NEVER played the old saints row games. saints row 2022 is my first exposure to the series, so you can rest assured knowing i am mostly unbiased. My only frame of reference for older games is the internet second disclaimer: the focus of this post is on the writing and maaaybe some unrelated stuff here and there. also let me remind you that this is my opinion and that you are allowed to enjoy something that i personally hate. you don't need my permission to enjoy things. spoilers for saints row 2022 obviously. do not play this game it is not worth the money. lets begin under the cut.
First problem: the main character is an unlikable turd, also they look ugly.
half related but i spent 30 minutes on that damn face slider and i still couldn't get them to look natural. What an ugly looking creature. the thing that sticks out to me is in the start of the game where they are constantly bitching and moaning about their commanding officer ordering to do things. when i think "lose cannon" character, i don't imagine a whiny 14 year old with a gun and ugly armor. at that moment i have decided to put that thought aside at that moment and think to myself "ok so perhaps the game is trying to go for a character that doesn't listen to the rules. I will play along for now"
whoopsie! the main character is too much of a coward to shoot the big bad guy who has killed a bunch of people up to that point ! let me just throw empty threats like "don't move or i am going to shoot you" without actually shooting! wOULD YOU PLEASE SHOOT HIM IN THE FUCKING KNEE ALREADY YOU HAVE A GUN. YOU ARE AN OFFICER OF THE CORPORATE LAW. YOU LET HIM GET AWAY AND TAKE OVER A FIGHTER JET BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T SHOOT HIM HE IS UNARMED AND YOU HAVE A GUN AND BULLET PROOF ARMOR. FUCKING FUCK FUCK The story can't decide if your personality-less protagonist is a lose cannon or a goody two shoes, so to artificially move on to a boring "dangling off a jet" fight scene they just don't shoot the fucker causing a huge mess and I am not even going to get into the fact the big bad didn't even fly the fuck away when your character was literally dangling off the jet. what is it made of??? Styrofoam ? ? ? ?
Problem 2: this game is too scared to actually be a game aimed at adults
the rating of this game is rated as M for mature. This is a game that they will not sell to minors in stores. As in this game is made for adults who are legally able to enjoy dirty jokes in games.
so why the FUCK did they censor RimJobs and Freckle bitches??? what are you scared that the underage teen that bought the game on steam without telling their parents is suddenly going to have a meltdown because they saw a swear ? ? I never played the older games let me remind you, but it feels so lame that my first experiences is jokes stolen from older games and then bastardized. and no this does not make the game more mature. Let me tell you why:
Problem 3: the main villain conflict is an unholy mash between high school drama and boring "fight the system" stories
today I learned that you run a CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION in this game. did you know that? I didn't know that. "Kat that's the whole point of the series" OH REALLY? WELL TELL THAT TO THE DAMN WRITERS OF THIS STORY first issue: the fact that the evil corporation somehow buys your criminal organization legally and your dumbass character and even dumber team-mates think this is some big deal hey friend! did you know that the perks of having a criminal organization is that you don't follow the law ? did you know that owning the rights to something doesn't mean shit when the thing you own is a criminal organization that doesn't follow the law? did you know that this is a criminal organization ? have i made that clear yet? are you sure you understand ? the evil corporation is an EVIL CORPORATION. they own the city ! couldn't you actually make them more threatening than "lol we own you now" what the hell do they expect to do? take this criminal organization to court? gee wouldn't society improve if we simply had huge businessmen buy out the fucking mafia out and then tell them to stop doing crime? (this is sarcasm in the event this actually does happen in real life) Second issue: the big bad guy who has experience with being a crime lord and has a history of manslaughter becomes a yandere. no i am not shitting you. Your character (WHO RUNS A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION) decides to suddenly be a good guy and teaches the big bad that the magic power of friendship and how wonderful being nice truly is like its fucking my little pony. then at the end of the game your character gets stabbed, magically survives being burred in a shallow grave after being stabbed, and then the big bad apparently is forcing your friends to be his weird friendship puppets. listen. yandere characters can work sometimes in situations like this. but like all characterization: you need to ACTUALLY ESTABLISH TRAITS LIKE THAT EARLY ON. why the hell is this grizzly 30 to 40 something year old man who has a history of being a charismatic crimelord suddenly acting like this is a really shit anime and he is a 16 year old nutbasket? ? ? ? ? nothing about him screams "i am socially starved to the point i am willing to kidnap people and force them to be my friends" like ? ? ? ? these stories and themes are NOT comparable at all- to recap this story features -a "fuck the system" story where your character fights against the evil corporatin -a yandere story where the big bad steals your friends with murder or whatever. -a story where the main character is good actually and they will free this city of evil -a story where the main character is a crime lord and that they create their own criminal gang and snuff out other criminal gangs. PICK A LANE THIS IS THE STORY EQUIVALENT TO ADDING PICKLES, CHOCOLATE SAUCE, MINT, AND ORANGE JUICE TO A FUCKING SOUP.
Conclusion: what not to do and suggestions for people who want to try these kind of stories.
first things first: don't be a fucking pussy. this is a crime lord story. you need to be comfortable with adult themes, swearing, and doing illegal and morally dubious shit. if you can't handle writing about that, then this genre isn't for you. Second: pick ONE threat as the main threat and then perhaps have smaller, less consequential threats. MAKE IT COHESIVE if it isn't obvious already, "screw the system" stories where the evil corporation is going to buy x building to fund their golf course or whatever isn't very compatible with crime lord stories where the main character is the lord in question. i am sure you can make it work if you are creative enough, just don't do what saints row 2022 did. Third: let your main character be a bad person in some way or form. Or even better: a complex character People who run crime rings are not good people. They are people who are running a hierarchy where they exploit money and society for personal gain. some of them are cults who convince their lackeys to stay, while others give their lackeys a cut of the dough. people. who run. crime rings. are not. good. people. Part of the failure of saints row 2022's main character is that they are a mix of the worst traits of a goodie two shoes and an aggressive hipster. they tried to make a CRIME LORD a morally good person who is fighting the system or whatever. get it through your head people who exploit people and the system are not good people who should be respected in your story. If your protagonist is in this position, they need to either A: start out as a good person and be corrupted, or B: start out as bad people and improve as a person only to then LEAVE the crime organization. unpopular opinion: but Mary sue characters can work in fiction depending on what you are writing. Steven universe is still a good show even if i can argue that Steven has Mary sue like tendencies. A Mary sue character is not inherently bad if the point of the show fits the reason why they exist. this is popular in escapist fantasy stories. But Mary sue type protagonist do not work in crime lord stories. Even if you want to make a weird gang related escapist fantasy story, you still need to make the protagonist do morally dubious things for it to actually work.
sometimes i ask myself: why was this story so bad? it was written by a professional studio, so something must had happened. my theory is that the studio had no experience with writing saints row games and basically got too scared to do anything actually mature and adult oriented. Its the fear of accidentally making something problematic. fair enough But at that point..... just don't make a saints row story ? don't make a game featuring a criminal organization at that point. but remember: there is no safety in a good story. all stories have risk. Why ? because art SHOULD provoke. art SHOULD make you uncomfortable, it should make you laugh, it should make you cry and feel. Art NEEDS to provoke some emotion to be considered quality art. and saints row 2022 didn't even make me laugh or connect to the boring ass characters like it set out to do, because it didn't provoke anything. I am not even angry. I am not a fan of the series, I just wrote this so that those who love writing can learn from this awful story. the only gain i got from this story is lost time because I "legally acquired it" if you get my drift. here is a suggestion to you fanfic writers: maybe you can make a story where its the future and the saints are the main villains of the story after accumulating so much control, and the protagonist has to fight against them only to eventually lose track of the plan and rise the ranks to the leader of the saints. there is so much you can do with this story, why be scared to offend? lifes too short, just get out there and fail as fast as you can so that you can gain the failure experience to make something great? thank you for reading my crap, check out my blog for a bonus reblog!

Okay hey, I may be grumpy and a bit whiny but really. There are new people going through all my 3wbf fics which IS an honour and I’m happy they apparently like them and enjoy them and hell, it’s my favourite fandom to write for for 4 years now and I’m always happy when new people join. But ... there’s not a single comment by them. Not ONE! And like, that’s 43 fics right now, over 200k of words and not one “hey I like this”? Nothing? I don’t expect much, but I’ve poured my damned soul into writing those and yes, I would have written them purely for myself as well (the fandom is small, let’s be honest, I don’t expect much) but is it really too much to ask for at least one comment? When you go through 43 fics by the same person, apparently enjoying their content?
Thanks for the kudos but yes, please consider leaving “something” in the comments, no matter how basic it may seem, it will really make my day <3
@everyone who does leave comments already, thank you and I love you!
#not targeting anyone specifically#just tired of this phenomenon#I get binge reading#and I am thankful they do leave kudos and enjoy my content#but I hope it's understandable that I'd wish for at least one comment to acknowledge it#or send me an ask if you want to do it anonymously#I've had people do that too#personal#rant#to delete later maybe#I'm just salty and conflicted right now#it's been a Week™#sorry

ok free general update on ganonbeck fic chapter 2, im about 5.5k words deep, it will probably end up being around as long as the first chapter, it being around 15k words again sounds about right since there are three general big points i want to hit and i'm currently working on getting to the second of those points, unfortunately the third point is the murkiest of them all but i am slowly piecing together what it will properly entail besides the basic description of what the characters do at that point, i hope ive picked up a bit on writing this since it's been going decently smoothly the past few times ive worked on it
#salty talks#i considered finding a few of my favorite snippets from the chapter rn and sharing them but i am. tired sorry#but i do think its going well and im feeling better abt the whole thing so thats always good progress
