So yesterday after dodging spoilers like crazy for the past week I finally managed to see Sonic 3 Movie and… I think I need to talk about one thing that really disappointed me. It's going to contain spoilers.

First of all, I cannot say that I didn't have fun. I've been waiting for this movie so much and the first thing I did after returning home was taking down the poster from Sonic 2 Movie and putting on a poster from Sonic 3 Movie. The second thing I did was take my graphic tablet and immediately drawing a huge fullart for it. Sonic 3 Movie was on my mind the whole day and I still can't stop thinking about it. It WAS fun. But after hearing people talking about how perfect it is I honestly... got a little disappointed- Am I seriously the only person who got the experience kinda ruined by Gerald's character?? I'm gonna be honest, yesterday I wrote the whole rant about it, but didn't upload it, because of some errors. But it was really REALLY negative and I was kinda pissed off. My opinion still didn't change, but I cooled down a bit so I'll keep it short. For me, Gerald was absolutely the worst thing about this movie. He and Robotnik both. I can kinda understand Robotnik acting like a clown, because Robotnik was always crazy, but Gerald? He was never this ridiculous. Thing about Gerald is that he's a tragic character. He was never really a bad person. Just a scientist trying his best to cure his granddaughter who was then literally killed by a military. A child. The dude had every right to be angry. It was understandable he felt vengeful. But the movie made a clown out of him. The jokes/scenes with Gerald and Robotnik were literally so unfunny. Only one joke amused me and it was the one with the 4th wall break. Listen, I get that those movies are for kids. But even Sonic games in their worst family friendly era didn't have jokes that lame... And you know? Fine. I could totally tolerate the jokes. But I'm so pissed off that they didn't stop even in the finale. We got Super Sonic and Super Shadow. We got a damn LIVE AND LEARN. Literally perfect scene right there. Did the creators really had to interrupt it with "funny haha" scene with Gerald spanking Robotnik??? Is it really that difficult to be a bit serious for at least 5 MINUTES?? Not to mention, the movie really tried to claim that Gerald is this evil guy that wants to destroy the world after what happened to Maria. But they made such a goof out of him that it didn't even look as if he even cared about Maria. I just... I had so much hopes for this movie to be "more serious". I noticed myself getting annoyed with some jokes in Sonic 2 movie, but decided that it wasn't that big of a deal. But they went completely overboard in this movie. To the point where I feel like this movie isn't really about Shadow. It's a Jim Carrey movie. After watching it, I feel like Gerald and Robotnik got more spotlight with their unfunny scenes than Shadow did. And it felt like they completely rushed Shadow's backstory too. They literally decided that straight up saying that Shadow's story is painful at the beginning of a movie was a good idea. I just... I don't know what to think. I'm conflicted. This is of course only my opinion. I saw people saying that this movie is perfect in their opinion and people liked Gerald and Robotnik. I'm glad. But in my case, that really disappointed me. Of course, I still had fun with the movie! I could probably make a seperate post with a spoiler warning, talking about things I did enjoy!

I've been watching reviews on Sonic Movie 3, and one of them, LS Mark, does go into spoilers on his. I won't spoil any of the major ones of course, but I do want to talk about the ones that changes some things from the games.

FINAL WARNING. Please scroll past if you don't want any spoilers at all.

1. Shadow and Maria didn't live on the Ark in space, but instead in a secret facility in an abandoned mine.

2. Shadow isn't a creation of scientists, but instead was found floating in space and was rescued and studied.

First off, I can definitely see why some fans are warning others that they may feel pissed off at this change. And yes, I can fully understand that having an adaptation choose to go in a different direction from the source material like this can feel jarring. However, I can see the strengths and weaknesses of both backstories, and I'm pretty excited at what these changes can mean going forward:

- Where does Shadow come from if he wasn't created by Earth scientists? Does he come from Sonic's planet? Does he have a biological family out there?

- OR was he actually created by Black Doom? What if he is the "child" of the Black Arms, but escaped and lost his memories in the process (tying into Shadow's amnesia plot point from the games)?

AMC & Regal were the only ones doing the early showing Fan Events, so we weren't able to join in on all that...BUT!

Talking about the Sonic 3 movie, so if you haven't seen it yet and don't want to be spoiled don't click below

Anyways. So at the end of the movie there are 2 end credit scenes, one where we see Metal Sonic and Amy Rose for the first time. But there is also one at the very end where we find out Shadow is alive. When I went to the cinema to see this film literally everyone in the theatre other than me, my family and like 2 other people had left before this second end credit scene with Shadow, heck at least half of them had also left before they got to see Metal Sonic and Amy

So I'm starting to wonder how many kids who aren't familiar with Sonic game lore (because come on even if that end credit scene wasn't a thing, those familiar with Sonic lore know Shadow would probably come back next movie cause he came back in Heroes after "dying" in Adventure 2) actually think Shadow is dead and gone forever and will never come back in the next movie

I pity those kids man, if I thought Shadow was dead forever I'd cry my eyeballs out he's my favourite Sonic character in both the games, movies and the cartoons (well Knuckles is actually my favourite in Sonic Boom cause Shadow doesn't show up often in that series but you get my point)

I made myself sad thinking that if the plan of destroying the planet worked Shadow would probably take off his rings and allow his own chaos energy to consume him into oblivion, my boy was so prepared to die he actively asked Sonic to finish him off, you can't convince me he hadn't already planned his own death...

You're still here? Well, okay, don't say I didn't warn you.

First off, with the negatives.... not a fan of the pacing and writing. It was super rushed, and overall the characters were a bit... cardboard? If that makes a lick of sense? It also had a few plot holes (how the HELL did Sonic know Maria, he never heard about her from anyone else?), and I think they were so focused on getting to the big action that they tried to get everything out of the way as fast as possible.

And wtf was that Chao Garden scene? And the Detective Pikachu reference/mention? Oh well. At least the commander's dead.

Some positives though?

I liked the actual action, the intro was both horrifying and amazing, and the villain's death was FUNNY. The way it was so quick was pathetically hilarious. I don't think this is my favorite compared to the second movie, but it had it's moments. I liked the GUN lady, she def should have been a bigger role, maybe she'll appear in the next movie? And I won't say what happens next, but OH MY GOD, stay for after the first half of the credits. You'll see someone (or rather, someones) that will get you screaming and kicking around.

Overall, I give this movie... a 6.5 out of 10.

Will have to rank it as the bottom of all three sonic movies, though. And, calling it right now; there is NO WAY Eggy’s dead. He is definitely coming back later.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SONIC MOVIE 3 (if you haven’t seen it yet look away now)

Here are my thoughts on the movie:

Okay so that opening was PERFECTION!! I absolutely love how they immediately hit us with the Maria flashbacks, this film didn’t pull any punches with Shadow and Maria’s relationship (and especially the tragedy)

Tom and Sonic visiting the old cave melted my heart. I’m very glad they mentioned Sonic loosing Longclaw again, I was slightly worried they weren’t going to fully address it. I especially love how they re-address it later in the film to help Sonic connect with Shadow, because both of them have experienced loss.

I completely lost my mind when Sonic said “Talk about a low budget flight, no food or movies! We’re outta here!!” I wasn’t expecting that line to be included but HOLY SHIT HE SAID THE THING!!! I swear I almost did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the screen meme in the cinema 🫵

I wasn’t expecting to see Shadow watch telenovelas, but here we are

FUCKING CALLED IT!!! Tom got hurt by Shadow!! That entire scene of Sonic shaking Tom’s unconscious body, and Shadow having flashbacks to Maria’s death, I loved it!! It was an especially great way to show Shadow beginning to realize that what he’s doing is wrong, that the path of vengeance only leads to more pain.

SPEAKING OF PAIN—

I almost cried when they showed Shadow and Maria together. It made my heart hurt so much, they really did a good job hitting all of us in the feels and laying it on thick with the tragedy. They were so happy together! Seeing Shadow smiling, dancing, just having fun with Maria, only to have it all taken away…

I’m not sure how I feel yet about the changes they made to the backstory. I definitely think they fit for the movie universe, but some of it caught me off guard. Shadow being an alien instead of man-made, and erasing Maria’s illness. Idk, I think it makes sense for this universe but I’m unsure if I completely like the changes or not :/ (they’re definitely not bad, just different)

Okay but that scene of Shadow and Sonic on the moon just talking it out, connecting, sharing their pain, it was all perfect. Sonic bringing up the fact that he lost Longclaw, him admitting that the pain never goes away, but holding onto pain isn’t the answer, you need to hold onto the happiness you did have. When Shadow said that line “Even when the star is gone, the light still shines” or something along those lines genuinely made me shed a tear…

LIVE AND LEARN!!! (I almost screamed when they started playing that)

Also, as a major Sonadow shipper….can I just say that the sequence of Super Shadow and Super Sonic working together was super fucking gay. I’m sorry, but it’s true (they’re boyfriends your honor) ❤️💙

(I kinda think Shadow is still alive, but I’m not sure. He survived Maria getting blown up, so idk if that means he’s explosion proof but maybe 🤔)

Oh yeah also….WTF HAPPENED TO THE MASTER EMERALD?! After Sonic and Shadow finish using it we never see the chaos emeralds again! Did they fall to earth?! Did the ones Shadow use get blown up?! I imagine not. We never see Knuckles say anything, nor any of the characters for that matter. Maybe that’s a problem for the next film *shrugs*

Yes, they’re making Sonic 4. I wasn’t entirely expecting them to give us two characters instead of one like they did for the last two movies. I had honestly placed my bets on Amy being revealed and lo and behold, I was right!!(ngl I knew Silver was a long shot but I can dream). Metal Sonic as well is pretty exciting! No clue who would’ve built him since it seems Robotnik/Eggman is DEAD dead fr this time. Maybe Stone? I’m not sure tho. The fact that there were multiple Metal Sonic’s has me thinking the big bad of Sonic 4 is gonna use an army of them, which is very cool!

I just…..this movie is everything I wanted and more. It was genuinely worth the wait. I think that’s all I wanted to say in this post so uh…bye! 👋

Uhhhhhhhhh yeah so that’s what I get for not watching all the credits. Make sure to stick around until it’s well and truly over. Should I just like look it up or…..?

Edit 2: I just googled the after credits scene and watched it. Yippee!! Shadow is alive! (Figured that was the case but wasn’t expecting them to confirm it)

rewatched the third Sonic movie!!! (It's been two weeks...watched it online) And I can say I still love this movie!!! But here's the stitch...am I SUPPOSED to get goosebumps as Shadow busts out of that tank??? Like CHILLLS??? It's probably the music...
