Hello! Oh there are so many! :D I definitely have some favorites and some which aren't favs but are pretty great.

Putting these under the cut because there are so many! And there's definitely more cool AUs that I haven't seen or haven't saved.

Seven Years Too Soon by NightFuchia. Basically what if a much younger Sonic accidentally set Shadow free from Prison Island. It has awesome characterization and happens to be one of my favorite stories. The rest of Team Sonic is also present

Brotherhood's Twist by @/drawloverlala even though I don't think it counts entirely as Au but it still sort of does. Unbreakable Bond ageswitch due to Zeti's meddling.

Passion's @sonic-tangled-au . I love it! So very much. The lore and backstories are so good.

Noonui's World Restored in Imbalanced Chaos au. Extremely engaging and good. Has a bunch of world building and fun concepts and lore.

Sonic's Super Totally Awesome Mixtape, though it seems to be discontinued, I'm not sure. It's pretty good so far! Takes place in the movie verse.

@brainworms-all-night-long is working on a Dreamtale Au which I'm hyped for. The tag in use is 'dreamtale and sonic tomfoolery'.

The Fair Folk by Irritable_Fabulamancer, this fic is one of my favorites! Team Sonic as Fae my beloved! I love fae AUs.

On that note, if you're alright wanting to read a Fae!AU which is pretty much a sonadow fic, there is also I don't believe in fairy tales [but I believe in you and me]. Fantasy and Fae! Satbk inspired, another one that had me hooked.

My Arms Are Blue by thekyuubivixen and its unofficial, fan-continuation (My Arms Are Blue! Final Four Edition) by PlaystationPassenger. The story doesn't completely count as an AU but I'm recommending them anyway cuz they're really really good and has that watching your own show from different dimension trope. It's also hilarious and fun.

Burning Arrow, Wildfire Heart by Taranea is SatSR novelisation AU with Sonic's other friends present too, it's pretty fun. Not very accurate regarding the desert but it's a good read and I come back to reread it often. Must read in my opinion. Just don't dare use it as guide for desert travel or you'll be shriveled up in the sand somewhere

The Buzzsaw Dillemma by redpenship. I haven't personally read it myself but I've heard many good things about it, especially it's world building.

Incomplete and won't be updated anymore but if you haven't read them yet, DO NOT miss out on Ghosts of the Future and The Murder of Me fancomics by Evan Stanley (spiritsonic) and Gigi Deutrix (gigi-D) respectively. They're a must read. Both are available on DeviantArt.

The Heart of a Monster comic, @/the-heart-of-a-monster. It's in progress and updates regularly. Unleashed retelling, really really good with some extra lore and everyone involved.

Sometimes the Picket Fence isn’t Perfect and Sharp Edges (Sonic Prime AU) series by @/skimmingthesurfaces. I'm holding off the first one to read later, like that one book you've been saving so I'm not sure if it completely counts as an AU, still putting it in recs, and the second one is intriguing so far. I have heard a lot of good thing about the Picket Fence series.

Dark Boom by Smash50. The entirety of Team Dark in the Sonic Boom universe. Alongside it, there's also Boomtober by the same author.

It Always Snows by the 24th by Selendred had me hooked even though it's a oneshot. Great au and would love to see it explored more.

No One said I Wish by SylWritesStuff. One of my fav stories from the Sonic Platonic Fairytale Week event. It's really funny.

Sonic Phantom Forces (SPF) au comic. Sonic Forces au, blue boy gets taken away but not in the way you think, pretty cool story so far. It's in-progress and available on both Tumblr and DeviantArt. @/spfau

If Black Doom tried to be a better father by Tirainy. Don't take this one seriously. It's pure comedy and I love every second of it. Shadow is having a time for sure XD.

The Sonic Project by SconnieSA. Rated M but it's a pretty awesome AU and the rating is due to more serious themes and uncensored language in some parts. Highly recommending this one

Survivor's Resolve by DC111. Not entirely an AU but I must rec this fic it's so good and doea havs some AU vibes.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Attorney of Law by thedraconicwerewolf. Ace Attorney type AU with Sonic and Tails as main characters. Not too adventurous but very very fun and interesting and still managed to keep Sonic in character. Though it has a sequel started, I only rec the main story, not the sequal as it seems to be abandoned and isn't needed to be read like them cliffhanger stories.

beLIEve by Meow21. I have only read snippets from this, waiting for this story to continue but it seems to be discontinued. Felt like an epic story too and deserves to be recommended.

Sonic and the Golden Journey. Sonic gets thrown in another storybook, this time it's a children's classic fairytale. Short but very comedic and fun. Go read it.

Tales of a Samurai. I am begging you to read this one, please it's so good. Also by Taranea.

Wonderful and it's sequal Sanctuary by Inflamore for some Unbreakable Bond angst. (Kindly ignore the obliviousness of earlier ff.net for not knowing the meaning of certain symbols, there's nothing of the sort in story, trust me.)

Regrets by MazzyBooks. A high school au of sorts. Sonic centric with some heavy angst. I'm not kidding about the angst part, trust me. It had me hooked from the first chapter though and I believe it deserves a rec.

You need the cracks (to let the light shine through) by king.needlemouse. Istg this is the most underrated thing I've ever come across, it's one of my absolute favorite fics which I can never forget. Do read it.

Within this Nightmare by sonicfan1990. Sonic get transported to an alternate universe which has gone post apocalyptic and his counterpart in that universe has been dead. Pretty great story, lots of angst and everything.

I wasn't defending or, heck, even trying to invite discussion about Flynn's rabid fanatics anyway. I could've chosen my words better, but aside from the detractors' mentalities, I meant to focus on Flynn ONLY. And I have nothing against your or their fan fictions. I do fan fiction, too. I just noticed what seemed like extreme shilling surrounding their exposure. I don't aim (and never did) to change minds about the dude, but I find the constructiveness of the critical discourse has been long lost.

Look, I'm going to be brutally honest with you. But before I do, I want you to know I'm not angry with you, just annoyed - and perhaps angry in general at the overall situation we're in.

Honestly, the current climate is reminding me of the time antis gentrified Half-Life and caused the old guard to disperse. Everyone in our mutual circle is drifting away from Sonic in some form or another because it's such a toxic cesspit, and what's worse, they blame us for it. Would you want to stay in a situation like that?

Anyway, I have no patience for "you keep shilling your work" anymore because that standard only seems to apply to us. If we held everyone else to that standard, this entire Chili's would be revealed as hypocrites in an instant.

The fic mocking is not an isolated event. I've seen it happen over and over again, for years. Folks mocked Crusher's fic and OCs on TV Tropes. Folks mocked Darklight's OCs on Twitter. Folks sneered that we were too stupid to comprehend storytelling, and once someone said "none of them can even draw."

They can never leave it at "their criticisms suck." No, they have to make things so much more personal than they need to be. In the absence of an actual argument, they call you names, say you deserve all kinds of punishment, including but not limited to death and rape. Crusher had to delete hundreds of threats from his inbox. So please forgive me if my patience has waned paper-thin.

Folks feel the need to knock us down a peg because they think it's "warranted" on the basis of "we have egos." Which is a riot when, again, everyone on social media shills their work. That's what fandom does. You cannot throw a rock in here without hitting someone who thinks their AU improves on the games. I don't know why IDW is so sacrosanct that saying "I could probably do better" is considered blasphemy.

Whether or not my friends shill their own work as being "better" than IDW or whatever else is irrelevant. IDW staff are professionals (or should be, anyway); what do they care if some rando thinks they can do better? Besides, have you heard Flynn's recent grumblings about how he's tired of having the same conversations about his work since he was in high school? Why does he keep answering questions he doesn't want to dignify with a response? Why does he sound so miserable for someone who essentially Won the Game(tm)?

People telling you your work sucks a couple of times, yeah, maybe you can chalk that up to trolling. But when damn near everyone takes the excuse to hit below the belt, you start to feel less like "don't feed the trolls" and more like you're deliberately being targeted as a punching bag.

And I'm sorry, but I have no patience for that stuff. Take whatever umbrage you want with the state of criticism these days, but leave the fic out of it. That's all I ask.

thanks to a few posts in the community and a sonic au, i've started vaugely thinking abt a possible musician/band/idol au for ava, with a dash of "hannah montana" for intrigue.

more under the cut cuz i already have some thoughts abt this sdfkljjkjddffr

so! this au is essentially taking almost every main character in ava/avm and giving them some level of ties to music.

most of what i have is character thoughts atm so! let's discuss the hollowheads and the colorgang!

second/orange

the main character is second, who performs as an idol under the alter ego of orange (a measure that their siblings suggested to keep them safe from paparazzi and fans outside of performing). i don't have designs for the two outfits quite yet cuz i just came up with this, but as orange they wear a mask on their lower face and take a lot of measures to make their idol look different from their casual look.

one day they accompany dark to an open mic night and bump into the color gang, an aspiring band, and wind up helping them perform. and it's really fun performing without pressure, and none of them recognized second so...

(they wind up doing keyboard for the group. their voice is fairly recognizable so they don't wanna risk it)

"orange's" real identity is a hotly debated topic among their fans, folks often try to piece things together going off of the vauge details they give in interviews

vic and chosen

vic and chosen were an idol duo years before second took the stage. in this au they're twins, so that wound up part of their appeal. however their manager, alan, was still inexperienced with managing, and wound up pushing the duo too hard and ignoring concerns, leading to vic having a bad accident during a meet and greet, leading to the two retiring shortly after (vic due to trauma, and chosen out of solidarity with their sibling)

when second told them about becoming an idol, both were concerned. chosen helped come up with "orange's" look, while vic was more unsure. (and both still weren't ready to forgive alan yet which, fair.)

chosen occasionally joins dark for performances (and to make sure he doesn't blow out his voice), while vic moved to produce for a quickly growing group called "the mercs" (they'd be such a boy band we know this)

dark

dark is attempting to become an independent artist, not wanting his style to get muddied up by record labels or producers (plus he was older than second when vic had their accident. he remembers better the events that led up to it). he's picked up a bit of a following.

dark does mainly a strange mix between heavy metal and breakcore (and risks destroying their vocal cords every performance, nuch to their siblings' chargrin). they've gotten chosen involved in a few songs, and has offered to let vic sing on a song if they ever get comfortable enough again. for the most part with second he's content just taking them to some of his performances, he doesn't wanna risk them getting recognized.

the color gang!

an up and coming band known for it's style of music. a bit strange sometimes, but in a fun way.

green is the defacto leader, as well as lead guitarist and singer (with the rest of the cg providing accompanying vocals as needed). he's also the one who invited second to play with the group (still dunno exactly why but it does occur). is a fan of orange, but unsure abt the speculation on their identity.

blue plays standing bass, providing an interesting contrast. she's the quietest of the group in interviews and in songs as well, but provides a lovely sounding supporting harmony with her instrument and when she sings. has the most eclectic style of the group as well.

yellow handles percussion! she has one of those midi fighters with all the buttons that has a bunch of different percussion noises saved (also a drum kit if needed). she also tends to help with soundchecks. she's also a fan of dark's music

red provides supporting guitar or really any other needed instrument. no do not ask why they needed a triangle for a song. he also tends to be the most energetic on the occasion they get interviews. keeps trying to convince green to let his pig ruben be the band's mascot (it goes about as successfully as you'd think).

Lately, I've been kinda inspired to write more about the AU I was working on a few years ago, Sonic Fastlane.

Originally it was an RP group thing, then briefly was going to become a series of fan games, but both of those never went anywhere past the concept itself.

(I do still kinda want to make a fan game based on it though, just in 3D with a more SA1 style than the mix of 2D Classic with Adventure mechanics, since 2D remakes have kinda been done to death, but that's getting off topic)

The basic gist was that it would be taking a ton of inspiration from the mini series - Spider-Man Life Story (minus the aging in real time thing), where it would retell the history of the franchise in a way that would be more consistent and planned out, since we'd have a rough idea of what would be happening later we could set it up in advance.

But also, I wanted to try an incorporate stuff from every iteration of Sonic. Archie, Boom, Fleetway, the movies, Sonic X (but only Season 3 though because I don't like Chris), the IDW comics, everything I could get my hands on. Though in it's current state, it only really takes a tiny bit from Archie and the movies, as I still haven't read most of Archie, have never read Fleetway, and most of my ideas for everything else would be post Sonic Adventure, which I never got to develop much of.

The last thing I'll say is that this project started in early 2020, meaning that Frontiers was still years away, the first movie had just come out, and huge chunks of the lore had yet to be retconned into like... actually making sense again.

Let's start with the premise.

In this world, there are two different types of Mobians. The regular animal folk, and the mutants, which come about if the child was either developed, born, or just grew up around a source of Chaos Energy. Usually meaning Chaos Emeralds.

As such, they're rather rare, but like the mutants in X-Men, are generally feared by the world at large, thanks in part to a clan of Echidnas (who are all very powerful mutants thanks to being around the Master Emerald for pretty much their entire lives) and the brief but incredibly traumatic rage of Perfect Chaos, who is also kind of a mutant even in canon.

Mutants are also pretty easy to track. Normal Mobians fur are only the colors that their species normally would be, and have black eyes, where as mutants come in all kinds of vibrant colors and have the colored eyes associated with the more modern designs.

Which is why all images of classic Sonic on this blog have the green eyes. Yeah, it looks a little cursed, but there's a lore reason behind it.

Anyways, when Sonic was born, it was immediately apparent he was a mutant, and his parents were forced to hide him from the world to avoid him being persecuted. Eventually though, word got out and they didn't think it was safe for him to stay there anymore. So they sent him off to Jungle Zone to be raised by Longclaw somewhere he wouldn't have to worry about being spotted.

However, during the 15 years in between then and Sonic 1, a movement had been growing to have mutants be more accepted. And the way they showed they were apart of that movement was by dying their fur to be more colorful.

Society as a whole was very divided on the issue. Some agreed with them, some vehemently fought against the idea, same as you'd see with anything like this.

And the reason I bring all of this up is because there's a key character who's a part of this movement. A young little hedgehog named Amy Rose.

Amy is NOT a mutant. But she has a kind and caring heart, and she doesn't like the idea of others being hated just for being born different. So she dyes her fur/quills a bright pink.

Her parents however, despite raising her to be compassionate, and also kinda old fashioned. And after seeing her with dyed quills after they told her over and over again not to get involved with it, her Dad straight up kicks her out of the house, forcing her to leave in tears.

If you read my carrd, you can kinda figure out the rest. Sonic gets bored of the forest, asks Longclaw to let him run loose for a bit on his birthday, and uses the opportunity to run away from home, promising himself he'd go back and apologize after he'd seen more of the island.

After running through Green Hill and being completely unsure if there were supposed to be so many robot lady bugs around, he runs into Amy not far from her hometown, getting bullied by a few of the other kids for dying her fur. Sonic quickly scares them off, having no idea of what exactly the issue was. (Longclaw taught him a lot, but he never really picked up on the "Everyone hates mutants" thing... Largely because he struggled to pay attention for most it)

The two quickly become friends, with Amy trying to teach him more about the world, and Sonic just kinda being in awe of everything since... He's never left the Jungle before that he can remember.

So they both decide to explore the island together, having no idea the dangers about to hit the island.

However, that's not the only new character that'll be joining them on this first adventure. There's one other that I think you'll find pretty interesting (and no, it's not Tails). But I'll get more into them and Eggman's whole deal the next time I talk about this whole thing.

Sorry, I forgot we're the only ones with egos in this Chili's. IDW staff never contrast their work to the games and find the games wanting.

Plus, it's not like every AU you encounter here is predicated on "improving" the games. Perish the thought.

Even when folks are doing nothing more than... (checks notes) ...talking about their fics? That makes mocking for mockery's sake okay? Because I've seen people mock Crusher merely for having an OC. That's it. Nothing else. You cannot look me in the eye and call that fair play. Even if it is the case that the flexing is being done solely to dunk on the comic and nothing else, literally who cares? Doesn't impact the book's sales, doesn't make IDW staff lose one wink of sleep at night, just makes lurkers mad and then they spread that shit around to rile people up. Not us. Besides, folks insist their work is better than the games all the time and nobody bats an eye. Just ignore it. It's not that hard.

In fact, I took down the public link to my Sonic VN because I was worried it wasn't good enough, and that was precisely because of the fear that people would dunk on it for the sole purpose of punishing me for being part of The Cooties Gang. Why would I limit my audience to a small circle of mutuals if I thought the work I produced was the next Shakespeare?

Are we internet nobodies no one takes seriously, or are we contaminating the well with our mere presence? Pick one. Because we literally cannot be both.

I'm sorry, did you not hear about the stalking from multiple accounts, the name-calling, the endless hate anons, some of which included death threats (so Flynn is not even alone in that regard), the blocking and stonewalling despite any and every attempt to explain our points clearly, the wishing of dead mothers to burn in hell, and how people literally gave us a derogatory nickname in order to other us? How some folks have said we don't deserve to live? Did you miss the two mental breakdowns I suffered from harassment? How I sometimes have flashbacks when I encounter certain opinions phrased in a specific way online, but the folks who say my opinions made them uncomfortable are to be coddled? No? I'm the bad one, playing victim? Okay. Because every time I mention these things to people, they either say nothing, imply we deserved it, or are quick to pull the No True Scotsman card. They protest they're not responsible for those things, yet at the exact same time, they expect us to be lumped in with the crowd that "tolerates" death threats and is considered responsible for the most vitriolic hate IDW staff receives despite most of us having no-contact policies. That is called a double standard.

Time and time again I have tried to wander away from this fandom, have tried to wash my hands and move on. But I cannot step into any Sonic space without running into people thinking I'm the plague. To be clear, I don't want to be coddled. I don't care about my standing in a fandom like this, even, anymore. I want the basic human decency I am not afforded because people assume I am some kind of monster hanging out with other monsters. I want someone to look at this mountain of bullshit, anyone, and not have their first reaction be, "But that doesn't matter, because you did worse." It's such a simple thing to want. And yet.

I actually don't hate the ship, while it's not my cup of tea I see them more as 1st boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Even in my AU I have it where they were first to date each other but at some point they figure out their preferences/sexuality, things they need to work on themselves that can hinder a long term romantic relationship, etc, and they decide they're better as friends than lovers! Nothing more but nothing less cause they have a great dynamic, and even some hints in canon that I can't deny are sweet but feel to me like they wouldn't go into super serious territory like marriage

But I guess my annoyance comes from the fans that spam it while demanding them to practically get married on screen. (Mind you, sonamy gets the most hints and even fucking official merch so it's like what more do y'all want + Sonic ain't about romantic relationships) It's like with any sonic ship not just sonamy, don't make that shit canon I'd rather have hints and nudges than flat out make them a couple. (Especially cause of Sonic's personality, immaturity, and he's supposed to be our freedom loving run with the wind rebellious hero.) Also just shoving the ship in folks faces as a selling point or audience grab (fucking looking at you writers of Boom), it's just my biggest pet peeve.

So I guess to sum up the rant, it's a cute ship in small doses but fuck the hardcore fans I avoid them at all costs for my sanity because I'm a heterophobic loser to the blue boy + pink girl straight ship 🤪🤪🤪 but fuck the sonamy haters too that harass the fans like y'all just annoying if not worst cause no fictional ship is worth "wars" over

Oh, I can be a LOT more descriptive, trust me. But, I'm glad you enjoy the writings and replies I do make on Tumblr! I do my best to keep my replies from being boring (not gonna say 'dry' because some muses just--- write dry). For the most part, I try to let the muse's emotions be what drives how I describe things- but... Sometimes I end up dashing away from them to describe things on my own. FREEDOM-

That it is! Even though plenty of folks use the same characters on Tumblr (Sonic and Shadow have-- so many blogs homistars), each take is unique and engaging in a new way! to all the leverage fans out there, I thought I’d throw out some recommendations of other shows that y’all might like

this is completely centered around the lgbt aspects of leverage (how none of the characters are straight, how there is a canon ot3, etc), because I know other people have recommended white collar and stuff but I haven’t personally seen that and I’m just a humble lgbt wanting to share more gay shows with y’all

1. wynonna earp (my sideblog is @angelicearps)

just renewed for a fourth season after two years (this feeling is very familiar to leverage fans)

the first episode of season four aired last night and IM SCREAMING the writers served us a five course meal

the main love story includes waverly earp, a CANON (officially as of 4.01) bisexual girl falling in love with nicole haught, a lesbian cop-turned-sheriff (that’s a slight spoiler, so sorry about that) and both of them are main characters

wynonna earp, another main character, has a complicated relationship with two different men and is not slut shamed for it and is never put down about it

I’m serious- the healthiest and most stable relationship in the show is between waverly and nicole, so wlw nation rise

wynonna and waverly are descendants of the great gunslinger (and demon killer) wyatt earp, who ended up getting a curse on his future generations. the story of the show is centered around wynonna being the chosen heir having to fight demons and try to break the curse for good

doc holiday is another main character- yes, that doc holiday. he’s one of wynonna’s love interests and he has such a pure and loving relationship with waverly. he’d literally die for her and move heaven and hell to make sure she’s safe (that’s literally canon)

jeremy comes in around season two if I remember correctly. canon gay. gets in a relationship with another canon gay character whose name I am blanking on. they are very loving and very pure

literally, in 4.01, when armed military men are breaking into the earp homestead and he doesn’t know what to do, he literally says: “gays only?” lol they didn’t respect that answer

the show has so many good quips and one-liners. so many hilarious lines. it can be an angsty show at times but they definitely balance it out with humor and wlw softness between waverly and nicole

wynonna has a baby in season two and literally calls herself a milf

it also made fans faint because they have been calling nicole “daddy” for like six years and nicole was referred to as daddy three (3) times in 4.01

this show is NOT AFRAID to say things like gay, lesbian, etc. at one point someone tweeted at emily andreas (the writer) asking her to amp up the gay energy and she responded that she would

literally, emily andreas is on the same level as john rogers with trustability and dedication to fans

emily andreas heard of the bury your gays trope and did us one better: unkillible gays trope. the gays are unkillable.

2. motherland: fort salem (my sideblog is @fortsalem)

(HELL YEAH I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST IN THE FANDOM AND I GOT THE HANDS DOWN B E S T URL)

au where during the salem witch trials a witches named sarah alder made an agreement with the government that witches would serve for the us army in exchange for not being systematically hunted down and killed

THIS IS NOT MILITARY PROPAGANDA. sorry, I just had to make this point early on because it’s not even though it might seem like it in the beginning. literally by the end of the season you see it’s very corrupt

since this is an alternate history of the united states, in this universe there are no heteronorms. literally, there’s literally no words for lesbian and bisexual that they use because it’s so normalized and common and accepted that there’s no need for terms like that

the main love story is of star-crossed raelle and scylla. raelle comes from a poor family and is a talented healer, and (this isn’t technically a spoiler because you find out in episode one) scylla is a member of the spree

the spree is a terrorist organization of witches that protests the compliance witches are forced into by having to join the military or die/be imprisoned

scylla is supposed to turn raelle to the “dark side” but falls so deeply in love with her that she can’t do it (THATS TRUE LOVE FOLKS)

the students at fort salem (the military school) are divided into groups of three: the main group being focused on is composed of raelle, tally, and abigail

tally craven is a pure-hearted baby and I’d die for her. she is very idealistic about fighting in the military (but don’t worry that’s fixed by the end of the season)

abigail bell weather comes from a high military family and is kinda really stuck up about it, but she’s humbled a lot by the end of the season. this girl has LAYERS (they all do, but abigail goes through a lot and goes from very stuck up and stuck up the military’s ass to questioning everything she knows)

the trio starts off rocky, especially between raelle and abigail, because raelle blames abigail’s mother for her mother’s death (her mother’s unit was led by abigail’s mother)

the beltane episode literally hits you in the face with how there are literally no heteronorms whatsoever. they do this sacred dance where by the end they will end up with the people they are destined to spend the celebration with (“trust the dance”). raelle makes friends with a gay guy and they spend the celebration making fun of the sex noises around them and become gay friends for life. abigail has sex with two (2) guys who kiss each other. a group of four girls went off together. a group of two girls and a guy went off together. and sex isn’t shamed. at all. in fact, it’s respected as a part of life. and y’all, literally this representation was OFF THE CHARTS

the witch’s most powerful tool is their voice,,, think about that for a minute

it’s an all girls school so there are like no guys whatsoever minus the beltane episode and a couple others

EMPOWERED WOMEN (of all ages and ethnicities too)

3. siren (my sideblog is @polymarinelove)

imma start off by saying that season three doesn’t exist. don’t watch season three. don’t do it. the disappointment is real

ANYWAYS

the central love story is between an interracial couple (a white guy and his black girlfriend that has a native american stepfather) that turns into a loving polyamorous relationship

maddie, the girlfriend, is amazing and incredibly smart and the first two seasons (and the beginning of the third) accentuate that and they never downplay her because she’s a black woman like many shows and movies do. she’s a smart stem woman and we stan her so hard. she’s also bisexual.

ben, the guy, comes from a rich family that are basically the hotshots of the town and own the fishing company that the community works for. his dad is hella untrustable. ben doesn’t trust him and neither should you. he is kindhearted and smart and respectful, and at one point teaches a merman about consent after being kissed by him (and he didn’t even #nohomo it which was AMAZING)

now to the mermaids

mermaids are apex predators. they are very dangerous. they are very strong. they’re also wickedly smart, canon smarter than humans

the story begins when donna, ryn’s sister, is captured by a fishing boat and carted off to a military facility. ryn comes to land to try to find and save her. (she literally choses her name because she sees a character on a kid’s tv show saying “I am ryn” which is also the first thing in english that she can say)

she ends up being helped by ben and maddie and legit is like these humans are hot imma learn english for them

there’s a lot of really cool and thought out lore as well as TONS of thoughtful marine biology science that makes sense

oh and transforming from mermaid to human? painful as FUCK. realistic depictions of having your body literally transform into something else

humans are wrecking the oceans and that’s a heavy theme of the show

oil rigs are poisoning the water (making them infertile) and killing mermaids with their sonic drilling

so ben and maddie lowkey commit an act of ecoterrorism but it’s chill

“ben and maddie are love” they’re poly, bitches

they come together in a natural, organic way

very healthy and communicative

ben’s alright but ryn and maddie are amazing

don’t watch season three if you don’t want to be majorly disappointed. the writers listened to the homophobic trolls on instagram and broke up the polyamorous relationship and I’ll NEVER forgive them for that. seasons one and two are amazing though. just don’t watch the third one.

Bugs buzzed monotonously by her ear, body truly screaming at her to stop moving and lay down now.

“We’re almost there.” He’d promised quite a few times.

She’d at one point exasperatedly asked how he made this trek. He pointed out that he had the chip, and that also when he chose not to use the chip, he had the shoes. Amy supposed she’d have to figure something out. But until then, she was stuck feeling like death while the sun slowly left them less and less light. Her feet felt about ready to fall off, and at this point she wouldn’t be opposed to it, then she would have to lay down and take a break until her feet got replaced by cyborg parts. Unfortunately, unless there was a saw around here, she got the feeling that though they hurt, her feet were firmly attached to the rest of her for many years to come. She stopped when she bumped her head on Shadow’s shoulder blade on accident, not realizing that he had stopped. She looked up and saw him glancing back at her, silently pointing to the building ahead of them. The outside looked just as old as the rest of the buildings, vines and moss grew up the side, but the difference would be that this building had no cracks, no holes, and even had glass in the windows. The thick vines had been pushed away to grow around the doorway, which held a black, steel door.

“This is it?” She whispered. Shadow nodded and beckoned her to follow once more, stepping up to the door and opening up the scanner attached to it, allowing it to scan his face. Once it had, she heard the soft clicking of the mechanism allowing it to unlock, and soon she was following him inside.

The inside was clean, fixed up just like he’d said. The floor was tiled and a round, maroon carpet sat in the middle of it. To the right was a couch with two love seats and a coffee table, as well as a large ProjScreen attached to the wall, the furniture sat on top of a rectangle rug that was the same color as the round one. To the left there was kitchen, complete with an island and any appliances one would need to cook as well as a fridge- she had no idea how they got any power out here, but she’d ask about that later. Lights dotted the ceiling to make up for the lack of windows on the first floor, and in the middle of the back wall there was a staircase leading up. Amy looked over to see Shadow had taken off his cloak and hung it on a hook on the wall.

“Shadow! Watch out!” A voice cried from the steps, and Amy found herself being tackled and pinned to the ground. She cried out in pain, she wasn’t sure how much more of a beating her body was to take today, but she hoped it wasn’t much more as clenched her teeth and squinted in pain.

“Rouge! She’s no danger- get off.” He demanded exasperatedly.

‘Rouge’s weight left her and she opened her eyes, taking Shadows hand that he offered and allowing herself to be pulled up. Then, she looked over to see who exactly ‘Rouge’ was.

She was... an Android. White metal, bright blue, glowing eyes. Equipped with fake lashes and makeup. Two wings protruded from her back and her ears gave away that she was modeled to look like a bat mobian. She currently wore a robe- it looked soft, and it was pink, matching slippers she wore on her feet. Aside from all that, she was much curvier than your typical Android would be, at least from what Amy had seen before.

“Rouge, this is Amy. She’s coming on board as our mechanic.” Shadow introduced her. Amy held out a hand.

“It’s nice to meet you...” She spoke softly, and cautiously, not wanting to incite any more anger from the Android woman. Rouge was silent, studying her up and down. Judging her. Amy couldn’t tell what the Android was thinking- it was strange, Androids tended to be easier to read because they weren’t actually mobians.

“I like your pants.” She said suddenly, crouching down to grasp one of the straps. “They’re practical and yet, very stylish.” Rouge observed before standing back up to look at Amy. Her facial expression didn’t give much away, but her body language told Amy that for now, Rouge would leave her be.

Amy let out a breath of relief as Rouge turned to look at Shadow.

“Does that mean Omega can finally be fixed...?” She asked hopefully.

“I do believe so.” He replied.

“Omega?” Amy wondered aloud.

“Don’t worry about it for now, you need to rest up, you’ve been smacked around a bit more than I think you’re used to today.” Shadow nodded to Rouge, and the bat android stepped forward and lifted Amy’s bag from her shoulder.

“I’ll take this to your room and get everything ready for you.” She explained before turning and spreading her wings, flying up the stairs. Shadow chuckled.

“What’s funny?” Amy asked.

“I think she’s excited to have another girl in the house.”

She ‘ooh’ed quietly, following Shadow as he walked over to the kitchen.

“Sit.” He gestured to one of the stools that sat at the island. Amy sat down gingerly and put her hands in her lap, watching him open the fridge and stare at it absentmindedly. She couldn’t imagine it was easy to get food out here, but then she remembered his teleporting trick and supposed that it was quite possible that he... went grocery shopping? That would be a funny sight to see. He shut the fridge door and leaned down to the freezer door, pulling it open and selecting something from it before tossing it on the table. He pulled out a toaster from next to the fridge and plugged it in before getting to work on unwrapping the food while beginning to speak to her once more.

“The room won’t be great, but you can start to get your own stuff to put in there once you... adjust to our living style.” He explained, popping what she now saw were frozen waffles into the toaster. “ProjScreen- on.” He called, louder than he had been talking to her previously, and she shifted slightly to turn and watch the ProjScreen as he continued to shuffle around in the kitchen. What she saw made her stomach turn.

“-from what we can see, this woman and her partner made a complete fool of the Blue Blur.” The female cat gossip show anchor chided.

“While we up here in the neon city aren’t exactly big fans of any criminal, watching these two lay waste to the Blue Blur is exceptionally funny.” The male deer replied, partially to the camera. The woman laughed.

“As part of our ‘down with the Blue Blur’ campaign, I just want to play that absolutely humiliating clip again!” She cried joyfully, clapping her hands together before turning in her chair to watch the screen behind them.

The screen showed a projection from the angle of what seemed to be a surveillance camera. It was a slow-mo shot of her rolling and shoving herself off the Blue Blur, immediately followed by Shadow’s cyborg hand appearing on screen and hitting the Blue Blur square in the back, sending him tumbling forward and scraping on the ground. Thank god the camera panned towards the blue hedgehog instead of her and Shadow, or else there’d be video proof of them just disappearing. But instead it zoomed in on the Blue Blur, who struggled to get up before collapsing. The video cut off just as Tail’s feet came in frame.

“Now that is just too funny!” The cat woman cried again, smile wide on her face.

“I have to agree with you there- but now we have to get to the more interesting topic- who was that woman?” He asked enthusiastically as a grainy, zoomed in projection of her face from when she was falling came up behind them.

“Now, thanks to some intelligence we do know she ran a shop in the outer ring, but the real question is how did she get wrapped up in all this drama? I mean, Mobius’ most famous vigilante scooping her up and trying to take her away from the mystery cyborg man- what do you think happened?” She questioned her cohost.

Amy grimaced, they were making it out to be some sort of romantic triangle from what she could tell, and before she could hear what the deer had to say, Shadow cut in.

“ProjScreen- off.” He called out. “Sorry, I don’t know why Rouge watches that crap. It was probably uncomfortable to see your face like that.” He apologized gruffly as she turned back around, watching him slide a plate across to her.

“It’s fine.” She reassured, “It was honestly kind of interesting to see how they talked about me- us. They... liked that we knocked down the Blue Blur.”

“Of course they did.” He snorted. “Inner ring folk hate him.” Amy shrugged in response, not knowing what more to say on the topic.

“So, what have you made for me, chef?”

“Toaster waffles with peanut butter on them for protein, plus some apple slices for some good sugar and vitamin intake. Just something to get you through the night, there’ll be something better in the morning.”

“Thank you.” She smiled slightly, glad to be digging in to the food. The waffles were a bit stale and the apples were a bit mushy, but it was better than what she usually ate, so she continued to munch on it happily as Shadow walked over to the living room half of the bottom floor. By the time she was finishing up, she heard Rouge land on the tile at the bottom of the stairs.

“Your room is ready.”

Amy looked over with a tired smile, standing and putting the plate by the sink she had spotted earlier before walking over to Rouge.

“Thank you... for all this.” She turned back to Shadow before stepping up the stairs. “I know this is weird... for both of us, but thank you for giving me this chance and keeping me from getting arrested.” He merely grunted in response and Amy assumed that was the best she was going to get and followed Rouge up the stairs.

They went up two floors before stepping out of the stairs and into a hallway, Rouge passed one door on the left before coming to one slightly past it on the right and pushing it open.

“Here you go, call me if you need anything- I’m a floor down.” She explained as Amy stepped in the room, closing the door behind the pink hedgehog. Amy could hear her slippered feet walking away.

Too tired to care about what the room looked like, Amy leaned against the wall and unlaced her boots, kicking them off before walking over to and collapsing in the bed. She let out a deep sigh before almost immediately falling asleep, too exhausted physically and mentally to even consider what her day had been.

My favourite characters are Sonic, Mephiles (hence the url), Eggman, and honestly a ton more. My favourite games are Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Unleashed, in that order - though I’m a fan of quite alot of them!

I decided to move all my Sonic stuff from @toxikku​ to here for better organization. My main focus is posting Sonic art, as well as reblogging a couple of things every so often, so I guess it kind of doubles as a personal in that sense.

My only rules are no fetishes/nsfw, rushing me, and respecting that I’m a busy person wrestling with work and mental health issues that can’t always get to requests. I might be overthinking it, but it’s just something I don’t see happening, and until I can find my confidence and hopefully a better method of playing Roxas, he’ll be in semi-hiatus for the time being.)

Sylvester Pussycat/Daffy Duck - Looney Tunes (I have done very little with either, though I can do something with Sylvester as of now, just Daffy needs some tweaking and icons for other verses. But when I have a good grip on both situations, they’ll be put out into the open for all to interact with for the other verses!)

Rockerduck/Roller Dollar - Duckverse/Disney Comics (”Also him as well!” Look, John is more known and very well received to be the third richest duck in the world, and as he aims for first place in besting Scrooge, he’s also not that bad of a guy. Sure, he may have a devious, mischievous, and even cheating side to him, but get to know the guy well and he’ll treat you like family. Not his of course as there’s a lot of turmoil in his but better than any average person for sure. Not only that, but he has gone through some radical adventures, giving him versatility, and even has a supervillian persona, one akin to Magneto. Polaris [Marvel], Doctor Polaris [DC], and Cosmic Boy in some terms of powers. When he hits the stage, he makes sure his appearance is known! Until he’s forced to munch on another one of his bowler hats.) @john-d-rockerduck

Underdog/Shoeshine Boy - Terry Toons? (Being a big fan of some superheroes, and knowing that Underdog has become a rarity in that of the super hero fandom, I decided it might be nice to try and help bring him back! As overpowered as he is, of course he can get the good old nerfing rod, or not, however you want it! Ralph Runner - Loonatics Unleashed (Boy, is this 50′s-60′s esque father of a roadrunner something! He’ll probably have you smacking your head in frustration from the very fast speak he talks. Ralph can slow down though, so that’s not much of a problem! Keeping up with him physically though is another thing, like for some reason, he still has a potbelly but can move at super sonic speeds? I guess not every speedster has a hyper fast metabolism? Either way, if you’re in the future sometime, you might find him at his business or somewhere in Acmetropolis, if it’s in the same time and universe!)

Snagglepuss - Hanna-Barbera (Ooooh, this guy. I have SO many ideas with him that they pale in comparison to Huck and Hokey, when just using my ideas and not the combined efforts of mine with others. A moment that explains how he went from being an antagonist and rival to being a good friend along with his fur change? Got it! An explanation for how he loses some of his daring and adventurous backbone? Already thought of! And the list goes on for this mountain lion! I may not have played him on Tumblr, but I have played him before, and I have hear I am really good from others.)

Bathound/Ace Wayne - DC Comics (A detective that likes to do his work more than anything, and does it best when alone? Oh yeah, that is a vigilante I can get behind! I still have yet to promote him more and such, but he is a good guy to antagonize since he does hate silliness and such when it comes to the mission. Though not as devoted to the mission as Bruce/Batman is, he can be at times and that is one of his best traits/worst flaws.)

José Carioca - Disney (As he is literally my most favorite Caballero, sorry Don and Pan, he does get a lot of love from me. With his questionable past of having what can be debated to be regular magic or black magic, coy and sly demeanor when on his con work, or just being the cool and levelheaded member until a party arises. Maybe it is because he reminds me too much of myself in some cases, but I do not know. He is still available for whoever wants for me to make a starter with him! I also have to continue the thread that has him in it.)

Morrigan Aensland - DarkStalkers (I question on how I should approach making her icons as she is well, look at her. Though she is a succubus and gets away with that because it goes back into the lore of succubi, I feel like some people would be uncomfortable with her around, which is normal. She is kinda one of those..... characters that I don’t want to type the acronym of. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to play her. She’s a good character that has an intriguing personality!)

Igor - Count Duckula (Ah yes, my first rp blog that I had when I decided to rp on Tumblr. It’s still up, and I’m still working on it! But for all that do not know, here’s a little thing about my writing; If it wasn’t for me rping as Igor, and also having knowledge of Alfred Pennyworth, I might not have been thinking about playing Duckworth as early as I did. I do love Duckworth still to about the same amount as Igor, which is a LOT, but they kinda are two sides of the same coin. Heck, they even wear almost similar attire except for their appearance and tastes in some things.) @butlerofthecount

Goofy Goof - Disney (It’s no joke! I may not have him on here, but then again, not all of my muses are on here. Some are exclusive to here, and others are exclusive to other places. While I’d love to present my take on the cherry and clumsy goof, I prefer to see everyone else’s interpretation on here! Goof Paradise is Nice, but I’m too impure for that life. XD)

Tidus - Final Fantasy X (I swear, I’m still making icons for him in the PS2 original Final Fantasy X because I’m sorry, that’s the only way I like Tidus’ face in the first and second games, Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia series are okay, but not the HD Remasters [in my opinion].) @caladbolgdreamknight

See, you say that, and no matter how much I try to uphold that belief, I still got that Secret of Starfall WIP that, while primarily aiming to tell a(nother) good story with IC characterization, it still can easily be taken as me 'fixing' Frontiers because I fucking haaated everything about it. -_-

Frontiers was so bad, it compelled me to say Screw Canon, Here's What They Should've Done Instead. And I don't like it one bit because it'd be hypocritical of me. Somehow me going "see wasn't this silly/stupid in Frontiers and see how much more better this approach is?" isn't any better than Frontiers reiterating Character Arcs like we're stupid and distracts from how useless the cast not named Sonic still was.

I suppose I should have clarified that I wasn't necessarily talking about fix-it fics, just the broader overall culture of fans taking their own AUs and thinking they could repair the entire franchise with them. Because there's nothing in this franchise to repair. Holistically speaking. I was thinking about the folks who use their AUs to say "this is the direction the series should go in," instead of just, like... you know... making their AU and having that be the end of it.

You don't need to love every single game or every single aspect of the games canon to be a game purist. I think we'd all agree that such a standard is impossible and ludicrous. Lord knows there's stuff ST have said that I'm not wild about either.

To be honest, I'm tempted to rework Sage and incorporate her in my Cousin AU fic if I ever start writing it :v just to see her character play out in a different context. To see if maybe a character I wasn't wild about can be worked out in a way that makes more sense to me personally.

I guess after having been bummed out that MoStH dropped right around the same time I was developing a Sonic VN, I just don't see a point in comparing my work to canon because that's always going to be a losing battle. I'm really hard on myself, so if anything I'm always going "ugh, this is trash. do over"

Portland’s Eight Bells Ready for Psycho Las Vegas

If you haven’t caught Oregon’s EIGHT BELLS yet, your chance is coming up at the Psycho Las Vegas, where they play on Sunday, August 19th. Some of the bands playing Psycho this year are Dimmu Borgir, Danzig, Red Fang and Wolves in the Throne Room. Eight Bells has long been held together by the very talented Melynda Jackson, who has given life and beauty to this emotional masterpiece of sound. We had the chance to speak with Melynda Jackson as well as Melynda Amann, Brian Burke, and Alyssa Maucere and get some insight on how the band has progressed as well as their plans for the future. While they have been working on new material for you to get your emotional heavy groove on, they have made great strides as a group and have plans to record once they have completed their current writing process. Landless by Eight Bells

You have a very unique and particular style about Eight Bells. What was the original inspiration for the project?

MELYNDA: I had started out playing in SubArachnoid Space for years, kind of a hard psych/noise what have you instrumental project. That project started as improvised noise, and over 15 years morphed into more of a songwriting collaboration. When I decided to let that project go, I knew I wanted to continue on into more distinct and concise songwriting but keep a little bit of the feel of SubArachnoid Space. Over the years the drummer was becoming more and more interested in some metal techniques like blast beats etc. We decided that we wanted to continue that trajectory after we dissolved SubArachnoid Space, so we named the new band Eight Bells, after the final SAS album. We never really wanted to fit anywhere perfectly, and I think we have accomplished that goal. I feel like turmoil and sadness are expressed frequently in this project. We would like to make something emotionally vivid and not have all the songs sound the same.

What is the driving force that carries you on over the last few years?

MELYNDA: It has been a tough couple of years for sure, with many points where I considered giving up. Playing music teaches me lots of things. I would say those things go beyond learning to play the music itself, but interpersonal stuff, connectedness, commitment, self-examination, and emotional expression. I have a lot to learn so I keep trying because it is interesting. Getting older reminds me that I have a finite amount of time to create, so I really have no choice-it is an itch that can’t be scratched. Also, I am stubborn as fuck so when signs all seem to be pointing to giving up, I try harder.

Can you talk about the lineup changes and how that has affected the sound this year?

MELYNDA: Oh, we have about 20 minutes of new music that has been difficult in its creation because of how many people Lindy and I have gone through in the rhythm section. (laughs) She has been with me for a couple of years now, but we are on our 3rd drummer (Brian), as well as our 3rd Bassist, (Alyssa). It felt like a struggle to really practice with regularity and treat it as a discipline until Brian and Alyssa joined. The songs Lindy and I were working on as a duo sort of finished themselves with their input and the ideas were made better for sure. I am not sure yet how the sound has changed to an outside listener, but I can say for me, the music is more defined. We have three-part harmonies now and we had a great time at our last two shows, so we can have fun together and connect onstage and that means everything to me -- and I do mean everything.

Do you have any upcoming plans for a new release with the new lineup?

MELYNDA: We totally want to record when we have another couple of songs. We will be focused on writing and making demos when get back from Psycho Las Vegas.

Describe your favorite way to enter the writing process.

ALYSSA: When someone comes in with a riff and we play it over and over, and it grabs us, that's when it's the best. We can see where else it could be taken, or it can push us in a completely different direction as our minds/ears begin to churn. It's important for me to carry the foundation for the harmonic layering to give space and clarity to my bandmates. It's a lot of refinement and experimentation, and that gives birth to truly abstract and complex song structures that give that feel really satisfying once they're played to our standards. Witnessing my bandmates get lost and found within a composition is how I know we all found something that works for us.

LINDY: Before I even present anything to my bandmates I am often inspired in random and unexpected ways. My voice recorder on my phone usually gets a lot of action for spur of moment inspirations out of nowhere. If I hear a riff in my head I often sing it into my recorder, so I don’t forget it. Sometimes this spontaneous idea could translate into a vocal melody or a keyboard riff. This riff usually doesn’t make it to the band practice room for others to listen to until the pot smoke has dissipated, and some serious rumination has occurred. If my riffing inspires others. I get excited and a possible jam may elicit more awesomeness that I didn’t hear the first go around in my head.

MELYNDA: I kind of feel like I don’t really have a choice in the matter in terms of how I process, meaning I don’t consciously choose to sit down and write a song. I hear riffs in my head and enjoy working with the group in real time to flesh out songs and arrangement. Recording riff ideas, like lindy says, helps. Sometimes I will work off a keyboard part of Melynda’s, or whatever. I like jamming a riff until it leads to the next part. We don’t really have a formula that we follow and we are still developing a language that we all can understand. Seems like learning to play the parts together is the first pass like a rough draft, then more arranging and tweaking.

What do you most look forward to while participating in the upcoming Psycho Las Vegas 2018?

ALYSSA: It's a family reunion for many of us. We have friends from all over the country convening all in one place, seeing bands that we all look up to, together, or never have seen, confined to a ridiculously fun environment that encourages all forms of debauchery. I'm honored that we get to play the Vinyl Stage with of such an amazing line up, I mean, c'mon we play after Necrot and Mutoid Man, two of my favorite bands out right now! It will be great to have this moment to give people the ability to see the reincarnation of Eight Bells. Plus, there's that killer pool and legal marijuana.

LINDY: I look forward to the camaraderie and friendships with my contemporaries and fans and also the bangovers and ringing ears caused from my own band’s crushing performance and from the performances of my friends and heroes on all of the stages.

MELYNDA: Playing the set honestly. I am not a fan of the desert in August. I look forward though, to air conditioning and seeing folks I don’t get to see very often.

Where did you start on the path of playing music?

ALYSSA: It started when I was a little kid. I used to play this game with my family where they would turn on a song for one second on the radio/CD player, and I'd have to identify what band it was, and most of the time I was dead-on. I was obsessed with tone and recording quality, all the unique sounds individual to a specific band, and it fascinated me how different everyone was. That's how I was able to remember who was who by their tone! Before I was even 10, I was hooked to MTV, especially 120 min and Beavis and Butthead (which I used to sneak at night and watch). It was there I heard PJ Harvey, Bjork, Soundgarden, Helmet, Unsane, Hum, The Beastie Boys, etc. I really liked playing on one of those children's pianos and would do it all the time for hours. Eventually my family broke down and found me a cheap upright piano when I turn 8 and it changed my life. I got my first electric guitar when I was 13, and I’ve played one almost every day for 20 years now. It was when I was 23 that I got asked to play bass in a band, and I never looked back.

LINDY: It started from the days of infancy when my mom would place my playpen by the record player, plug my headphones and spin an LP for me to keep me occupied. Later, that path continued on long car rides from Massachusetts to Maine when my Dad would blast Pat Benatar, Black Sabbath, Tina Turner and the Motels all the way to his place. It started with singing in church every Sunday, and friends picking me up in the morning for school blasting Iron Maiden and Metallica. Music has always been a central part of my life.

MELYNDA: I played clarinet and bass clarinet in band, but was kicked out for being unruly even though I could play well. I suppose that was my first lesson – you are never so good or talented that you get to be an asshole to everyone and keep playing. I failed at guitar lessons soon after. As a kid I liked to listen to music and count the beats- oh here are 4s, but halved they are 2, oh this is 6… that sort of thing.

What are some of the most influential artists to you?

ALYSSA: Al Cisneros is a wizard. He creates a sonic vortex by meditating on very few potent riffs for lengths at a time. There's a mathematics going on there, a pattern that undulates in and out of consciousness. I know how to play most of those riffs, but if you ever see the man live, you're blown away by his delivery. Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell were probably the first musicians to show me what "heavy" meant, between the depth of the content in the lyrics and the eclectic richness of their influences. Soundgarden was a perfect storm of catchiness and brutality. It was also because of Kim Thayil that I ended up loving bands like Master Musicians of Bukakke and Sunn O))). Last but not least, metal bands like Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega have a profound influence over my writing. It's chaotic and unsettling, and somehow, it's incredibly emotive and beautiful.

LINDY: In terms of vocalist heroes, I would say: Pat Benatar, Bruce Dickinson, Joni Mitchell and Aretha Franklin. Musicians that I am influenced by would be Nick Cave, Prince and Diamanda Galas.

MELYNDA: Old and new: Steve Reich, Sonic Youth, hildur guðnadóttir, Death, Enslaved, Popol Vuh, Butthole Surfers, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vaura, Earth Wind and Fire, Bauhaus, Faust, Amon Düül II -- so many. Basically, everything music influences me in some way, even if I don’t like it. I try not to wear my influences on my sleeve, but I also try not to overthink things.

Do any shows stand out above the rest, so far, as your favorite experience with the band and why?

ALYSSA: I'm so new to this band that every show so far stands out. Psycho Las Vegas will be the largest crowd I've played to in 5 years, and I'm really looking forward to performing.

BRIAN: The first two and the last two stand out most in my mind.

LINDY: Considering that I have been a member of Eight Bells for 2 years, I have only played 6 live shows with them. One that stands out for me is playing in Canada, opening for SubRosa. The energy and our playing were great and the excitement of the show was palatable.

MELYNDA: Brian we have only played two shows together. (laughs) Honestly, I would say our first show with this lineup eclipses any other that I have played with Eight Bells so far.

Is there a central message that you would like to convey?

ALYSSA: Eight Bells will crush your soul.

LINDY: Our time is finite. Our time is up. Crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of everyone.

MELYNDA: For the love of Satan, please when driving on the highway, use the left lane for passing only.
