Can confirm. I think in full complete sentences word for word. It baffled me to learn that a lot of people only think in vague concepts and I still don't grasp how that works
Now combine that with the constant racing thoughts of ADHD and the hyperfixations of autism. My head sounds like several songs playing at once over a crowd of people over a TV over a jet taking off while you're trying to read and your mom is talking to you. Sometimes I can only blankly stare off into space because it's too overwhelming to process
There's a cool idea for some OCs in here somewhere...

To all the trans people who see this tonight, no matter what happens, we will survive. Trans people will still be here 4 years from now and 10 years from now and 100 years from now and tomorrow. We have always existed and we always will. The world cannot unlearn about us; we are too public, too loud, too beloved, too present. Ill be here tomorrow. Please stay here with me.

Sonictober 2024 Day 9! Theme: Loss. By definition, loss is "the fact or process of losing something or someone". And this indeed... is that.

My ADHD is resistant to medication and it's complicated by also having tourettes syndrome and my tics getting aggravated as a result BUT
I can vouch that they do not make me high or give me energy. Not even caffeine is able to give me energy, I drink iced coffees strictly for the flavor (if anything, caffeine also makes me sleepy.)
I'm only on a high level dosage because of my ADHD's resistance to them. I am not addicted. At all. Because of how the meds aggravate my ticcing and the nature of my tics, I sometimes have to take breaks to let my body recover from the stress and pain excessive ticcing can cause me. I do not experience withdrawals, and if anything getting back into the habit of taking them regularly can be a feat in itself because of impaired executive function. And when I do start taking them again it does tend to make me sleepy Everyone's chemistry is different and people with ADHD brains aren't built like people with non-ADHD brains. Our chemistry isn't the same as yours
The pharmacy got some of my ADHD meds in!
After weeks!
I took ONE full dose and 20 minutes later was uncontrollably yawning and had to take a nap.
Stimulant meds are the first line, most effective treatment for ADHD, being remarkably effective in 70-75% of people with ADHD.
People with ADHD do not get high from their stimulant meds.
Becoming relaxed after taking them for the first time or after a long time off them is a sign that they are working and is an indicator that we DO have ADHD, though most doctors don't seem to know that this happens. We relax because we are closer to a normal state than we were, initially our bodies literally respond with relief.
Again. That is not what you would call even remotely a "high". Unless you are one of those awful people who believe naps are a crime.
They make our brain chemistry more normal, not less.
For those they help, we genuinely need them. Yes, both children and adults. It's fine to take them. It should not be a controversy (nor should ADHD itself be as controversial as it sadly is).
Medicating us does not lead to abuse. We are not addicts in waiting. Treating us as such is repugnant. (And treating addicts like shit is repugnant as well.)
Forcing us off medication with no support does, however, cause serious problems and can lead some people to seek them through illegal avenues, which is dangerous. Also understandable. The medical profession blames us and does not take responsibility for their part in this situation, even though they should.
We have every right to use whatever means works best for us free of censure, disapproval, and overzealous gatekeeping. If that's stimulant meds, so be it.
More respect for us please.
Especially now as we are facing rolling shortages of meds for the next few weeks or months. Your ADHD friends are struggling. Be patient.

I have severe ADHD. I'm permanently stuck in safe mode
If brains are biological computers, why don’t we lag?

able bodied people will freak out when they see an ambulatory mobility aid user not using their aids but won't question it when a hiker only uses a walking stick or trekking poles when they're hiking. they're the same thing.

I choose "other" because there's no indication it would be permanent and I want to be able to change it to any color at my whimsy
*No consequences, it happens magically so no surgery etc etc

there’s nothing shameful about making things easier or more accessible for yourself btw.
if your disability means you can rarely/never cook so you have to order out a lot, or buy precut ingredients, or if you need other people to help you cook even “simple” meals.
if your disability means you struggle with personal hygiene so you don’t shower standing up, or don’t brush & floss “correctly” or long enough, or put up your hair when you can’t handle brushing it.
if your disability means you’re not able to engage in your hobbies in a “normal” or “correct” way. if you have to watch movies multiple times because your brain fog is making it hard to follow the plot. if you need accessibility tools to be able to draw or paint. if you have to do everything from bed.
you’re not doing anything bad or wrong. you’re being kind to yourself and caring for yourself in the ways that you’re able to. it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
