Summer is not yet come, but the sun burns hot, and the air is thick with moisture. New Orleans, delta built and water bound, thirsts for the respite of rain. While working on a case of disappearances in the bayous of Louisiana, cultivators and monster hunters Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen meet a young girl who will change their lives.

i hate the fact that mx*x created The Perfect character (wwx) when she's a fucking homophobic fujo who is cursed to write underage teacher/student stories. like,, why was SHE BLESSED ENOUGH TO MAKE HIM IM SOO MAAAAD, i cant love wwx in peace knowing his maker. he deserves to have other gay freinds to hang out w like wtf. wq and nhs (id say songxiao but theyre ded lol) are literally there and u tell me they werent gay??? why cant i just fall for stories w good gay authors instead im sICK

STOP I KNOW... the way wwx and lwj are both so incredibly complex and wonderful & such good characters with such interesting stories... and they somehow came from someone like HER. i hate it so much! and it’s insane to me that she writes all these gay characters and insists that everyone but her main couples are heterosexual. my mind just cannot take it! anyway wen qing is a lesbian, nhs is bi and nb, songxiao are NOT dead because i can disregard whatever mxtx says and also they are gay-married with a daughter. (also if u want to support a f/f novel written by a lesbian author, read fgep!)

Wait, tell me more about songxiao in the bayou tho 👀

AHAHA well! If things work out, the story will appear sometime this month for MXTX Diaspora May (fingers crossed) 👀 But it would be part of a historical fantasy/horror AU that I've had cooking for... over three years now, wow.

The premise involves ghost/monster hunters Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, living and working in the USA in the 1890s/turn of the century. They're married and travel the country, handling supernatural threats using a blend of Chinese and Western magic and rituals, and also guns (it is the USA lol). The main fic I've been chipping away at over the years (working title "Come Back Alive") follows the guys as they attempt to settle and semi-retire in the part of Appalachia where Xiao Xingchen grew up in order to raise their daughter. But things devolve into horror territory with the emergence of something very strange and powerful that puts even these seasoned hunters out of their depth. 🙃 Oh no.

The bayou story would be a lighter prequel to all this, though! The lads hear about some odd happenings as they pass through New Orleans, and they may team up with a plucky little street girl in order to get to the bottom of things....

oh definitely yi city because songxiao deserve a happy ending too. i know wangxian married with son, but how about songxiao married with daughter :’) maybe xingchen actually listens when a-qing brings up concerns about xue yang. maybe song lan goes to find xingchen first when he arrives at yi city. so many potential ways to prevent the tragedy ahhhh

thoughts on a-qing! let’s give her some love!

Yes! She deserves!

1. How I feel about the character:

I love kid characters! Younger teen characters included. Seeing a plucky young woman character is like a breath of fresh air. I wish she got more attention.

2. All the characters I ship romantically with this character:

Ok but ouyang zizhen can be her boyfriend if he wants. He’s easygoing enough for her I think. He’s go with the flow. “Oh my girlfriend wants to do xyz? Of course darling. :)”

3. A non romantic otp:

SongXiao married with a daughter. That’s just how it is. I feel like her and luo qingyang would get along too. She’d be her positive female role model and teach her how to use sword. ❤️

4. An unpopular opinion:

I don’t really think I have one? The only opinion I saw once was that someone thought she’d get childhood crushes on the Yi city men and I don’t think that was too popular an opinion either, much as it did strongly bother me.

5. What I wish had happened/would happen to the character in canon:

I think my “give song lan friends” agenda fits her perfectly. I wish she’d survived to travel with him after everything. I feel like SL needs someone to take care of by his nature and post-mess I think she’d appreciate it. It may be broken but he could be her family.

My modern AU’s SongXiao household is kinda weird and that’s entirely because of Xue Yang. A-Qing is very assuredly Xiao Xingchen’s daughter, and Song Zichen’s by extent since he and Xiao Xingchen are madly in love and married, but then there’s Xue Yang who lives with them and is simultaneously A-Qing’s annoying brother, Xiao Xingchen’s friend(?) who gets spoiled rotten, and Song Zichen’s greatest enemy and rival for Xiao Xingchen’s attention. Also:

Xue Yang: im a homewrecker lmao >:3c

Xiao Xingchen: hahaha, Xue Yang, you’re so funny! ^-^

Song Zichen, under his breath: bitch you better hope I don’t catch you when Xingchen’s not home

so songxiao round 2 are married in the tmaaf 'verse, right? And ouyang xingchen eventually inherits as sect leader ouyang? Does one of his niblings inherit after him or do he and his hubby adopt and get one of their kids to inherit?

Songxiao #2 do get married, but Ouyang Xingchen doesn't succeed his father--neither he nor Yao Lan are really into sect politics, which was why Ouyang Xingchen ended up studying at a temple instead of socializing with the other gentry boys from his generation. Ouyang Zizhen eventually named his first daughter as his heir, and Songxiao went off to join Jin Yun at the monastery he founded in Yiling.
