bialti paer is oen of my favourite roborosewater cards:
Tumblr media
and it's fascinating because it, like, illuminates a worldview (not saying that LLMs have interiority or worldviews, i'm talking about as a piece of art) that is self-consistent but absurd. like, in magic the gathering, creatures can "fight" each other, that's a perfectly cromulent mechanic -- and so to an LLM trained on nothing but magic rules text -- an entity that cannot 'see' the world outside of that rules text, there's no reason 'players' and 'opponents', who also show up in rulse text, shouldn't be able to fight each other too!
and it's interesting because it highlights that 'you', in magic the gathering, become a rules object! you are in some way imperfectly modelled by this game -- 'you' can be targeted, 'you' can be dealt damage, and this all feels very natural and logical in a way that obscures a lot of the intentionality and specifics of how players are represented as a simulacrum-rules-object until something ridiculous likes this kind of picks at the edges of the weirdness of that abstraction! & yuou know i feel like this about, well, not every roborosewater card, they can't all be winners, sometimes the AI just produces word salad or a perfectly playable if weak/strong card--but with instances like these, where it creates something absurd where examining that absurdity requires noticing and thinking about aspects of the game--that's why i think it's a powerful and interesting art piece!

Pairing: Sebastian Sallow x f!MC
Rating: E
Word Count: 4.5K
Warnings: 18+, aged-up characters, explicit sexual content, loss of virginity, fingering, oral sex (f receiving), unprotected PIV sex, fluff and smut
Summary: "I would like to request Sebastian and MC wanting to have their first time and Seb being the bookworm he is doing some ~research in the restricted section on how to make MC feel good and when she discovers it finds it super sweet ❤"
Tonight he has a very specific quest as he wanders the underground stacks, keeping a mindful eye out for any nosy ghosts as he makes his way toward one of the sections he hasn’t ever had the mind to explore. A small piece of parchment is affixed to the end of the row, and in Scribner’s tight, precise scrawl he sees the words, "Sexually Explicit Materials." Sebastian smirks – precisely what he sought.
Throughout his years at Hogwarts, Sebastian has snuck into the Restricted Section of the library more times than he can recall.
It’s almost too easy to cause a distraction, conceal himself with Disillusionment and slip past Scribner to pick the lock and let himself into Hogwarts’ most valuable collection of rare books, obscure manuscripts, and other magical oddities deemed too advanced (or dangerous) for the average student.
As long as Peeves is otherwise occupied, he usually finds what he’s looking for without incident.
However, it’s been a while since Sebastian has found himself in need of a book from this particular section. Ever since you’d used Isadora’s magic to pull Anne’s curse from her frail body and store it in a goblin-made metal locket, he’d kept his word and avoided practicing any sort of Dark Arts.
He simply doesn’t need to anymore.
(...He still reads about it sometimes. But how else will he know what to avoid?)
Tonight he has a very specific quest as he wanders the underground stacks, keeping a mindful eye out for any nosy ghosts as he makes his way toward one of the sections he hasn’t ever had the mind to explore.
A small piece of parchment is affixed to the end of the row, and in Scribner’s tight, precise scrawl he sees the words, “Sexually Explicit Materials.”
Sebastian smirks – precisely what he sought.
It’s an open secret amongst Hogwarts’ more senior students that somewhere hidden within the Restricted Section was an entire shelf of books all about, well… relations. Witches would whisper to each other about how they could probably find out everything they’d ever wanted to know about the mysterious opposite sex.
The wizards just hoped that could find some illustrations.
At least a few times per year, some ambitious students would attempt to get a teacher’s permission to access such books, but most failed. Sebastian, not willing to risk being turned down, figured it would be better to ask forgiveness if he was caught “borrowing” a few books rather than seek someone like Sharp’s permission.
He peered closely at the spines as he crept down the length of the aisle.
Smethwyk’s Guide to Marital Relations… Magickal Self-Knowledge… Sexual Behaviour in the Contemporary Wizard… Bewitching the Fairer Sexe…
That last one piques his interest.
He slides it off the shelf and gingerly opens the front cover, hoping that the book won’t start to sensually moan (or worse) and alert the librarian of his presence. Mercifully it remains silent, so he eagerly starts to flip through its pages.
Oh, there are illustrations and then some. The magical kind that move, at that.
Sebastian knows that if anyone were to catch him right now, he’d be terminally embarrassed. But he’s determined to read this book from cover to cover – not merely out of curiosity, but because he has a purpose now.
Since the two of you had decided to make the leap from friends to something more, you’ve already shared so many lovely milestones. To Sebastian, they were all meaningful: the first time you’d kissed, the first time you’d felt each other through your clothes, the first time you’d both had to spring apart and catch your breaths because things had gotten very intense very quickly. (That last memory is one of his favorites to relive.)
But earlier that week, you’d sprung on him that you were ready.
“Ready?” he’d asked dumbly.
“Ready,” you breathed, kissing down his jaw to his neck while you squirmed impatiently in his lap. “For you, for more.”
“You want more?” Sebastian sighed contently, tipping his head back so you can suck one of those claiming bruises you love to put on him. “We have all night, love, and I’m certainly in no rush.”
“I mean for sex,” you blurted out.
“Y-you said you’re ready for…?” he stammered. “W-well, I mean–”
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything,” you mumbled, immediately backing off. “You must think me truly wicked for even suggesting it.”
In fact, Sebastian wasn’t thinking much of anything at that moment. But he forced himself to focus and reassure you that he wasn’t upset with you at all.
He’s quite interested, it’s just… he feels hopelessly ignorant.
He knows you lived in the Muggle world until you were fifteen, and that there’s no such compunction about talking about sexual relations at that age within non-magic spaces. Witches and wizards remain staunchly conservative on the matter, however, and generally the topic of “marital intimacy” is firmly taboo in public at Hogwarts.
Students are undoubtedly curious, but many will remain pretty naive until they leave school.
You, however, are not ignorant. He’s fairly confident you’ve never indulged in that sort of behavior with anyone else, but your knowledge of what witches and wizards do together, what the two of you might do together is assuredly more robust than his own.
He simply can’t have that.
Sebastian slips Bewitching the Fairer Sexe into his school bag and sneaks back out of the library. He doesn’t crack it open again until he’s back in the dormitory with the curtains pulled tightly around his bed.
At first he doesn’t bother casting Silencio, because that’s not what this is about. He’s stubbornly focused on learning from this text, not on becoming distracted by all the enchanted illustrations of the erogenous zones of a witch’s body, or where exactly one should touch between her thighs to bring her to her climax, or even how a wizard can use his mouth to pleasure her…
Merlin, who is he kidding? Better do a Silencio just in case.
Sebastian clings to that book for nearly a full week before he’s caught.
By you, no less, which is horrifically embarrassing.
He’d even kept it hidden from his dormmates with the exception of Ominis, who can always tell when he’s got a secret. He just assures Sebastian that he couldn’t care less about a smutty book as long as it doesn’t involve any phonic components.
But he’d left it underneath his pillow with a single corner sticking out, and that’s all it took for you to find it when you let yourself into the seventh-year wizards’ room to borrow one of your love’s scarves for your afternoon walk down to Hogsmeade.
When you don’t return quickly, Sebastian goes upstairs to track you down.
He’s horrified to discover you sitting cross-legged on his bed, lazily flipping through the book.
“That’s not mine,” he blurts out in a panic.
“It was on your bed,” you counter, barely looking up from its pages. “Under your pillow, even.”
“You’re snooping through my things?” he demands as he feels himself flush red.
“Obviously,” you scoff. “Like you wouldn’t do the same if you could get into my room.”
“That’s not the point,” he insists. “I – will you quit looking at that?!”
“Why?” you ask, raising an eyebrow. “It’s really quite informative, this book of yours. Not a bad resource.”
He anxiously runs a hand through his hair and mutters, “Merlin’s beard.”
“You know what might have been easier, though?” you say, finally closing the book and leaning over to drop it on Sebastian’s side table.
When he doesn’t answer, you get up from the bed and cross the room to him before taking his hands and placing them firmly on your waist.
“You could have just asked me,” you say softly.
He immediately makes a face.
“What?” you protest.
“I just… I wanted to figure out what I’m doing before coming to you,” he admits. “Felt like I was supposed to.”
“Why’s that?” you ask softly, winding your arms around his shoulders.
“I’m a wizard,” Sebastian says as if it’s supposed to be obvious. “I’m not supposed to be so clueless.”
You gently remind him, “But you’ve never had a girlfriend.”
“You’ve never had a boyfriend,” he retorts.
“Sure, but I had Muggle friends,” you explain. “They talk about sex, they’re not as repressed as you wizards.”
“If you think I’m repressed, may I introduce you to Ominis?” Sebastian jokes, and you roll your eyes fondly.
“All I’m saying is, I may know a thing or two,” you murmur as you raise up onto your tiptoes to kiss him. “And we can always talk about what we want.”
As you kiss him, Sebastian stubbornly thinks, I know a thing or two as well now.
His hands drift from your waist down to your hips as he pulls you closer, earning a soft sigh from you that makes him smile against your lips.
“Tell me what you want then,” he asks as his hands continue sliding down to your ass.
“Right now?” you ask softly. “Here?”
“If you want,” he offers. “Everyone else is out for the day, we have all afternoon.”
“Yes,” you gasp, and Sebastian isn’t sure if you’re agreeing with him or reacting to him slipping his hands underneath your skirt to feel your bare skin.
He steals a few more increasingly urgent kisses before breaking away from you to put a quick locking spell on the door.
You return to Sebastian’s bed while he shrugs off his jacket, promptly abandoning it on the floor. His vest and shirt follow while you watch with an expectant look.
Before reaching for his belt, he skeptically looks you up and down. “Why aren’t you taking your clothes off?”
“I was hoping you would do it for me,” you say softly.
Merlin, you are absolutely going to be the death of him one of these days.
Thoughts of his belt abandoned, Sebastian joins you on the bed and cups your face in his hands so he can thoroughly kiss you before getting to work taking off your uniform. By now you’ve both seen a fair bit more of each other than you have of anyone else, but never like this – never fully bare.
Your vest and tie are simple enough as they’re just like his own, but once he starts unbuttoning your shirt, he reveals a whole new layer: a thin chemise that sits just below your shoulders tucked inside a simple white corset that cinches your waist. Its seams drew clear attention to your breasts, and Sebastian wishes he could simply charm the damn thing right off you.
However, he remembers from his reading that you might enjoy being rid of it by his hands instead, slowly building the sort of anticipation that his book had claimed witches crave in the bedroom.
He feels vindicated each time your breath hitches when he slips open another one of the corset’s delicate hooks. Once the garment goes slack and falls open to your sides, he enthusiastically slides his hands beneath your chemise and cups your breasts in his hands.
“Touch me,” you groan, arching your back.
“I am touching you,” he teases.
You whine frustratedly and place your hands over his through your shirt, encouraging him to properly take hold of you.
That won’t do, Sebastian thinks. He wants to reassure you that he is not naive to your pleasure, that he knows exactly where he needs to touch you to drive you mad.
He’s read that you’re sensitive here, especially when you’re wanting for touch. He drags his thumbs over your nipples, both at the same time, and you sigh his name.
If he hasn’t already been growing hard in his trousers, that certainly would have done it.
“Touch you here is what you meant, hmm?” he murmurs as he rubs slow circles over your tender peaks. “Let’s try to be more specific next time, love.”
You don’t even bother telling him to bugger off, which lets him know he’s gotten you worked up already.
You pout endearingly when Sebastian removes his hands from your chest. He assuages you with a quick kiss before coaxing you into arching your back for him again so he can toss the corset to the floor. Then he pulls your chemise up over your head and quickly chucks it away as well. Now he can actually see your chest, already flushed pink from just his hands.
You cry out when he licks one of your stiff nipples and takes it into his mouth. He moans into your skin and sucks at you, remembering having read to be gentle with you here. You reward his efforts by twisting your fingers into his curls to hold him against your breast and stroking your thumb along his hollowed cheek.
Amused, he recalls being a younger student and hearing some of the seventh-year insisting that witches tasted like a wide range of things. Often they insisted the taste was either floral or sweet like sugar candies, but one of them had even claimed he’d pressed his lips to his girlfriend’s chest and tasted elderflower wine.
You don’t taste like any of those things. On his tongue Sebastian notices only the clean taste of warm skin, like when he kisses your neck, and maybe a lingering note of the rosewater perfume you sometimes wear. It’s heady and human and maddeningly perfect.
“Just like that, Seb,” you whine.
Beneath him, your legs fall open wider and your skirt is rucked up to the middle of your thighs. Sebastian thinks it’s a crying shame you’re even still wearing the silly thing, so he pulls away from you with a filthy wet sound and reaches for the clasp at the side of your skirt.
“Lift up,” he murmurs and you tilt your hips so he can tug your skirt down. He easily hooks his thumbs into the waistband of your undergarments as well so that he can get you naked all at once.
You’re a sight straight from one of his daydreams like this – nude and flushed all over with your legs spread in his bed.
He grips his cock through his trousers to give himself some much-needed relief while you observe with a covetous stare.
“I want to see you,” you tell him. “And don’t you dare say ‘you can already see me’ or some nonsense, I want to see your cock.”
“As you wish, love,” he says cheekily.
After undoing his trousers, Sebastian shoves them and his own undergarments down to the middle of his thighs. He can’t resist the urge to stroke himself a few times before letting you take a look.
As far as “wand lengths” go, he never much worried about comparing himself to others; he thought he could safely say that he was at least average. Now though, the seconds feel like minutes underneath your gaze. You’re quite red in the face and your eyes are wider than usual, and he suddenly realizes that it’s the first time anyone else has ever looked at him like this.
He didn’t think it would feel that significant, but it does.
“Well?” Sebastian asks teasingly, desperate for you to say something.
Finally, you stutter, “W-well, you’re definitely bigger than my fingers.”
“Your fingers?” he says. “You mean when you…?”
“Yes,” you squeak. “And now I’m nervous it’s going to hurt.”
He frowns. “Oh.”
“B-but I want to!” you quickly insist. “I just think, um. Maybe we can start with something else?”
“Love,” Sebastian murmurs fondly, leaning down to kiss your jaw. “Of course we’re going to work our way there, I wasn’t ever going to just put it in right away.”
“No?” you sigh distractedly.
“Aren’t you witches supposed to love foreplay?” he teases. “I read all about it in my book.”
“What’s that?” you ask him.
He raises an eyebrow and you continue to stare at him expectantly.
“I thought you were supposed to ‘know a thing or two,’” he says. “Foreplay is everything we do before the actual, er. Penetrative part. Surely you weren’t expecting to just…?”
Everything Sebastian had read had told him that under no circumstances should he press inside you without ensuring you were prepared. He’d poured over the illustrations that instructed him how to use his fingers to stimulate you, how to help acclimate you to feeling full before he filled you with his cock. (He learned he could even use his tongue to do the job, which sounds bloody brilliant.)
“I – I don’t know,” you admit. “I mean, I know you’re going to go inside. And I know how I use my fingers on myself sometimes, but I just…”
You trail off sheepishly. “Maybe I didn’t know as much as I thought.”
Sebastian is quite pleased by this turn of events. “Bet you’re glad I found that book then, aren’t you?”
You scoff and spread your legs a little bit wider. “Let’s see it then, you know-it-all. Show me this ‘foreplay’ of yours.”
He quickly shoves his pants the rest of the way off and kneels between your legs, one hand gently resting on the lowest part of your stomach. He thinks you’re even lovelier between your thighs than the illustrations, with your taut, delicate skin flushed pink and glistening wet at your entrance.
“Just one to start,” he mumbles to himself, pressing the tip of his middle finger against your slit with his palm up just as he’d learned.
Your body opens up for Sebastian so beautifully that if he didn’t know any better, he’d think that this must surely be some kind of ancient magic in itself – perhaps a primordial form as old as wizardkind.
His mouth on you earlier has gotten you plenty wet, and inside you’re soft as silk and feverishly warm. He curses under his breath at the realization that soon enough, he’ll feel this on his cock. (He has no idea how he’ll ever be able to go back to his own hand and some salve after this.)
“Good?” he asks you distractedly.
“Yes,” you sigh.
He glances up to check your expression and finds that your eyes have slipped shut, and there’s a blissful smile on your lips.
Determined to keep you focused, Sebastian murmurs, “Tell me how you use your fingers on yourself.”
“I – I usually use two, maybe three,” you admit shyly. “But my hands are smaller than yours.”
“Do you like to think about anything while you touch yourself?” he asks in a low voice.
You whine like you’re overwhelmed, but your hips cant toward his hand and he can tell what you’re asking for. He pulls out until just the tip of his finger is inside you, and then he presses back in with his index finger tucked alongside it.
“Yes, Seb,” you whimper.
“Go on then, tell me what you think about,” he croons. “I’ll tell you what I think about if you do.”
He starts to fuck his hand into you like that, burying two long fingers in you all the way to the knuckle. Watching you take him inside you like this is a thousand times more captivating than any illustration in any smutty book that’s ever been published, he’s sure of it.
“I can’t,” you protest. “We aren’t supposed to — that’s dirty, talking about that.”
“Dirtier than this?” he asks wryly. “Love, you can tell me anything.”
You stay stubbornly silent until Sebastian presses his thumb to that swollen nub that peeks out just above your entrance, the one that looks like it’s aching to be touched. Just the lightest touch elicits a broken moan out of you.
“Tell me what you think about and I’ll give you a third finger,” he bargains.
“P-please,” you beg. “I just – I just think about you, you on top of me, what your body looks like, it’s always just you.”
“That wasn’t so hard, was it?” he taunts as he makes good on his word and starts to press his ring finger in alongside the other two.
This time there’s noticeably more resistance. You were right, you do have smaller hands than him and his three longer, masculine fingers are more of a stretch than you typically give yourself. Sebastian laves more attention onto your clit, pressing his thumb against you a bit harder to distract you. You’re still plenty wet, and he assumes that’s a promising sign.
Your brow is furrowed in concentration as you try to relax for his fingers, but you nevertheless remember to demand that he tell you his fantasies.
“You want to know what I think about?” he asks casually. “It’s been the same thing for a while, really.”
“W-what is it?” you ask, stuttering a little when he succeeds in pressing all three fingers deep inside you.
“It’s you, in my bed, moaning my name, begging for me to fuck you,” he tells you. “Every time I stroke myself off, that’s all I need.”
He punctuates each detail with a thrust of his hand. You’re slick all over by now, and Sebastian has to imagine that a lesser wizard would give up at this point and eagerly replace his fingers with his cock.
But he’s not done with you yet. He’d been quite surprised to learn from that wonderful book that many witches can reach multiple climaxes in a row, provided they’re being seen to by a courteous wizard. He wants to give you your first right now, before he becomes distracted by chasing his own.
“Are you going to come, love?” Sebastian asks. “Just from my fingers?”
“N-no, I want to wait until you’re inside me,” you protest weakly, but your hips are rocking up to meet him with every thrust of his hand.
“Let me make you come like this,” he bargains. “I’m not going to stop at one, darling, I’ll make sure you’re completely satisfied.”
Your thighs are properly trembling now – Merlin, you must be right on the edge. That’s when Sebastian gets the idea of leaning down and replacing his thumb on your clit with his tongue.
Immediately his world goes dark as you clamp your thighs around his head and wail.
“Don’t stop, don’t stop,” you chant as he seals his lips against your skin. “Seb, please!”
He feels you get even tighter around his fingers when you come. He can barely even move them for several long seconds, so he focuses instead on drawing out your pleasure with his mouth. You hold him there with your legs until you can’t take the stimulation anymore, and when he pulls out of you and sits back on his heels, he imagines he must look mad.
Hair mussed, pupils blown, lips wet… you’ve made an utter fiend out of him.
“Suppose I did alright, then,” he observes with a smirk.
“Sebastian,” you sigh weakly. “Come kiss me.”
He bends down so you can wordlessly express your thanks with a lewd kiss – one that tastes like your own body’s release. It’s erotic, and wanton, and it reminds Sebastian of his aching, ignored cock that’s assuredly leaking all over his sheets by now.
“You must be in a dire state by now,” you observe, lips brushing against his.
“That’s an understatement,” he jokes. “I think I might faint if I wait any longer.”
“Then don’t wait,” you coo. “Go on, Seb, you can.”
He clenches his jaw hard when he sits back to guide his cock against your entrance. There’s no way he’s going to last long in this state, not with you spread open and waiting for him like this. Squeezing his hand around the base of his cock helps a bit while he sinks inside you, but he still feels overpowered by the immensity of the feeling of filling you up.
“Merlin, you’re big,” you hiss. “B-but it’s okay, I’m okay.”
“You’re sure?” he manages to ask.
You press your hands to his bare chest and he understands that it’s a wordless plea for him to pause, just for a moment. It’s pure torture, but he remains still inside you while you adjust.
“Merlin,” you whisper. “You’re really… we’re really…”
“I’m begging you, don’t say another word,” Sebastian grits out. “Or this will be over right now.”
You giggle, flattered by his admission, and even the motion of your body laughing threatens to put him over the edge.
“You know I don’t care about that,” you tell him softly. “Forget about your pride. I just want you to feel as good as you made me feel.”
Now Sebastian is the one at a loss for words, merely moaning as you drag your hands down his chest to his hips and encourage him to move.
Once he starts, he can’t stop. He tries to remember everything he’d read in that damn book: maintain a steady rhythm, don’t pull out all the way, keep pleasuring her with your hands…
Most of it he quickly disregards. He thinks to himself, how could he be doing this wrong? This feeling, fucking you, it feels like an instinct he never knew he had. He has to fill you over and over with his cock, he simply must.
And judging by the way you’re arching your back and crying out his name while he slams into you, he’s not leaving you unsatisfied.
In fact, he nearly sees stars when you slip a hand between your bodies and hurriedly rub at your clit until you’re coming again in what has to be some sort of record time. Only this time, when you reach your peak and your walls tighten around his cock, there’s nothing he can do to stop himself from falling right over the edge with you.
Sebastian feels properly spent by the time you both come back to your senses. Still buried inside you, he can feel how he’s filled you up with his release. It satisfies something in his feral hindbrain that much prefers spilling inside of you rather than his own hand.
He sees it start to leak out of you when he pulls out, and he recalls reading that a good wizard should offer his witch a rag to clean up after such a marvelous ending. He attempts to climb off the bed to track one down but you hook your leg behind his knee and whine for him to stay.
“I just want to get you–”
“No, I don’t need anything but you,” you insist, reaching for him to tug him down against your body.
Sebastian bests you when it comes to both height and breadth, but you don’t seem to mind his weight pinning you to the mattress. (Though even if you did, there’s hardly room for the two of you to lie beside each other in one of Hogwarts’ infuriatingly small beds.)
You’re both quiet for a while as you enjoy the simplicity of each other’s company, occasionally sharing a few lazy kisses or a whispered reminder of your love.
Eventually, Sebastian drawls, “I reckon I can return that book now.”
“Hold on,” you counter. “There may be some more tricks in there that we might want to try next time.”
“You dirty minx,” he laughs. “I suppose I’ve ‘bewitched’ you, have I?”
“Sebastian Sallow, I was bewitched by you quite long ago,” you tell him. “But we’ll have to wait and see whether that dirty book of yours gives you any more brilliant ideas for what to do with me.”
He thinks he quite likes the sound of that.

I'm not sure if you've done this cause I can't find it in the tags, but childhood themed (????) Kriselle (Kris x Noelle) stimboard?

Kris Dreemurr x Noelle Holiday with themes of childhood!!!
I used to dislike this ship, but after a lot of thought, they're very cute together! I love that they're both doomed by the narrative, their story together is really compelling and I can't wait to see more of these guys! Hope hardcore Krisellers get more content in upcoming chapters 🙏
Also, as soon as I saw the childhood theme request, I just knew I needed this specific piece of art by @pinkalliums !!! I love the younger designs, they're so cute!!! There's another Kriselle sketch in that post so check it out! Please let me know if this is against the artist's boundaries!!!

Hello, I hope you're doing well! This is probably an odd question, feel free to ignore it. I wanted to ask you as a fellow writer I admire, who is mostly focused on unpopular/dead/deep lore characters. Do you also sometimes feel like what you're writing is irrelevant and unexciting for everyone, except yourself? If so, how do you deal with this? For me sometimes this sudden realization is so crushing, that I cannot bring myself to finish a single work.
Hello! That’s not an odd question at all in fact it feels pretty relevant tbh. (Omg sorry long reply you got me going 💙)
I think I have several kind of interrelated answers for you so let me lay them out.
1- I am powered by autism and a MIGHTY hyperfixation. I have no choice I am compelled. I am blinded to all other things and so while the little bit of feedback that I do get is AMAZING and so extra sparkly motivating it is not entirely what compels me (but BOY does it help)
2- I joked with a friend just last night that, “this season is, as usual, does not have NEARLY enough Felwinter content and so I must therefore create my own.” - as she pointed out, there have been exactly TWO seasons with ANY Felwinter content at all and I wasn’t playing destiny yet for one of them. My point being, sometimes you gotta create what you want to see yourself. I’ve always found myself in some really niche corner of whatever fandom I’m in and have to do this a lot. Probably how I got to writing and drawing etc. fun thing is tho you find a really special group of people who think and love like you that way, and if it’s a smaller crowd, it’s all the more intimate for it Imo. I’ve made some super special friends in the last 9 months or so in my weird little corner here and it’s magical and I think that quality over quantity filter is awesome. (But yeah i know the validation machine is SO good too)
3- the BEST magic of borrowing from obscure content, generally unknown or undeveloped characters or lore is the creative freedom. The headcannon swapping the worldbuilding the background gathering… the RESEARCH! Gleaning what little bit I can from what we DO have. Who the fuck is timur?! We don’t know. I borrowed the beautiful designs for his face and general personality that Sylenth has developed because she’s done such an amazing job and was kind enough to allow me to play with him as she made him, and took that as jump off point for my writing etc but I have all the wiggle room in the world with but a few widely dispersed canon signposts to lead my direction and that is just so fucking fun for me.
(And that doesn’t mean more mainstream characters like Osiris don’t have their creative appeal to me either. I will deep dive on lore and character analysis for YEARS but living in the peripherals is comfy for me)
Those are all the positives to my work, but yeah, sometimes I do feel a little dejected. I have definitely felt a drop off in reader response weirdly in converse to the effort I put into my writing. Housefire has evolved into much more of a cohesive Plot(tm) that is going somewhere very specific from its origin of a few interlinked fluffy anecdotes and funnily enough about the time I started really digging my heels in and plotting and planning and putting in twists I was REALLY excited about, people started responding less. Some of my favorite fics are the least popular. Some of my art I am most proud of gets the least attention but that damn doodle of poor Felwinter getting splattered by a warsat has 200+ more notes than my next most popular art. (The shitposts always win Damnit! 😩🤣😅)
I get frustrated and yeah sometimes a bit discouraged sometimes and I spend Way Too Much time sitting here refreshing my notes because I am a sad lonely person chronically online just way too thirsty for a little validation or a conversation with someone but like. Every piece gets better. Every piece SOMEONE appreciates. Every piece **I** enjoy and is also a chance for all of that when I share it with the world and that’s exciting and good, and like I said the people in this community as niche and little as it is, are really something special, and some of the people that have come into my circle because of it make it SO worth it.
**I was done but then I read your ask one more time and I’ll add this since it popped into my head last-second:
If we are creating works for dead characters we love, we are keeping them alive.
How magical is that??

okay so like i am obsessed with Baroque and i recently was listening to the remake OST, it's fine, it's cool, it has a few bangers on it anyway so like;
i was youtubing and such and found this like full length OST video right
SO then i see this:
Tumblr media
i am obsessed with this piece of art but since this game is so obscure it's very difficult even with the artists signature at the bottom to find out who did this art, if there's an art book or somehing, and how i can find more.
like if anyone knows anything pleaseeeeee let me know. i'm going to go over the nerve tower site and see if i can find anything but it seems hard to find specifics sometimes

Honestly even though I didn’t have the same negative reaction that much of the online gw2 community did, I do kinda appreciate some of the learnings for story they outlined in the retrospective 😅
I agree completely. I personally loved Secrets of the Obscure, I rate it very highly while acknowledging that it definitely had flaws. Handling as many new characters and lore topics was going to be difficult, and I understand the frustration of people who felt that things felt a bit underwhelming or glossed over, I really do. I feel it myself.
Personally, however, I think those things affected me less because I've always been rather focused towards story, and digging as much out of it as I can in a rather aggressive way, in almost everything I enjoy, and that allows me a different (not necessarily deeper) level of enjoyment. Sometimes I may come to conclusions or thoughts that may not be there actually, or may not have been the intent, but the enjoyable thing is that art is subjective, and if nothing comes out to specifically say 'this reading is wrong', I can satisfy myself with those interpretations.
Why else do you think I can sit here and write essays on 'here's why X character makes me think they're like Y based on one throwaway line or an implication in a piece of lore in a book I found on the overworld' :P
This is definitely how SotO appealed to me, because there was a lot there that I could dig into personally and get my mental cogs ticking. But on the same note, I get why people want more concrete answers, more time spent on developing new threads. I would have loved SotO to be longer, myself, because I truly enjoyed the world and characters it brought to the table. That's what Wildflowers will be for--
Gameplay, I think could have definitely been improved. While I wasn't particularly fussed with the first or last Nayos release, the middle one is where I felt the impact hardest. But I do enjoy things like Rift Hunting, Convergences, etc, I just pace my time. I know that's easier for me though since I only started playing in '22.
I appreciate the transparency on this front, in all honesty. I've only dabbled into game dev myself in times long past (I feel old, but I'm really not), and can understand the need to push out an excuse for why x or y didn't turn out as expected, but I can respect flat-out saying 'we tried to do too much, and we failed to achieve what we set out to'.
And with the certain extreme-level volatile reactions in other sections of this player base, I think recognising that treating the places where SotO tripped over itself as something not done maliciously is important. Not saying that criticism isn't deserved, but I have seen some genuinely horrific things said that make me feel ashamed to be part of this community.
All in all, I'm going to hold my faith in the next expansion and am greatly looking forward to it, and seeing how these lessons take. I've stuck through way worse in other MMOs, so one expac that struggled to handle everything it set out to do is barely a blip on my radar.
And I feel this is the best moment to bring up my general blog's attitude: it's no secret how horribly negative this playerbase can be, to the point I've had to turn off map chat a number of times because the negativity is so constant it is genuinely bad for my mental health. I have fairly severe depression, I do not need to sit here and wallow in even more negativity. I think too much of the world as it is right now thrives off of negativity and hating things and not being happy, so when I talk about story beats or characters, etc, I always try to do so in a positive way. I'm just here to enjoy something that's come to mean a lot to me, not to sit here and hear for the eightieth time about why X is a shit character or Y is the worst thing that ever happened or Z blah blah blah.

10 and 17 for the writing meme?
Thank you for the ask! (And sorry for the lateness in getting to it!)
10. How do you decide what to write?
This is hard to say exactly how, because most of my fics (unless it's for an exchange/prompt) are just spawned from thoughts that are basically 'I need to see this happen right now because no one else is going to do it, even if the idea/fandom/ship is unpopular.' Lloyd as a werewolf? Colette stuck in a time loop? Or writing a fic for an incredibly obscure book fandom about a monster that's taking the shape of one of the main character's lost love? Yeah, okay I need to see this happen and I'm gonna have to write it.
And even if an idea already exists in the fandom, or is very similar, sometimes I need to write my own version anyway. (This is basically me with Cruxis!Lloyd because there has been so many fics about him) Just to please my brain that yeah, I did it my way. Now it's out there! But with the added bits that appeal to me! Fave ships, fave characterizations, etc.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
Most of my highly specific AUs revolve around my favorite ships. For Lloyd/Colette, I definitely have several that mostly appeal to me or just a few people. The AU with Nobleman Lloyd and Maid Colette was one of them, which is just, literally getting attached to their costumes and building a story around it. But then me and @frayed-symphony made an actual doujin out of it that some people bought! So that was very cool.
(...And then there's another incredibly specific AU I've never shared that's just Lloyd and Colette stuck in their own curses and finding each other in the wilderness and learning to adapt and live. It is hard to explain? because it's full self-indulgence but it's in the vein of fairy tales because it's what appeals to me. I rarely see other Symphonia fics go the fairy tale route and honestly I wish there was more like that. This art piece by frayed is the only thing public about it. Maybe one day!)
Writing ask meme here for anyone interested!

Re: Asoiaf rarepairs: I really liked the dynamic between Grenn (“the Aurochs”, a teen considered a bit slow of mind, but very strong, and caring - he’s with Sam when Sam slays an Other) and Pyp (the ex-mummer‘s apprentice, a quick-witted, sometimes prankster-like teen who also has a very caring streak) (both in the same recruit group as Jon at the night’s Watch). While Pyp is every once in a while teasing Grenn, he’s generally also very caring towards Grenn, I think even moreso than the rest of Jon’s friend group, just as Grenn doesn’t seem to actually mind Pyp teasing him, even saying as much at one point (something along the lines of “when Ser Aliser called me aurochs he did so to call me slow and dumb, but it’s different, Pyp can call me aurochs!”). They also often appear together or are pointed out together by name in a group when the other lads aren’t specifically named - and that’s even though they are in different placements at the Watch once their recruitment phase is over (Grenn becoming a ranger and Pyp becoming a steward iirc), so they don’t have that much opportunity to hang out together anymore, but apparently still seek each other’s company out. They’re tertiary characters so we don’t get to see much of them, but man, I’d find that pairing sweet as a concept. I believe that there also has been an artist on tumblr here who has drawn the two several times and that was very wholesome too. I forgot the name, but I do know she’s from Germany, references the band fire in the attic in conjunction with Theon fanart a lot (which I happen to know because I also listened to that obscure german hardcore/emo band at one point), and has a very illustrative, clean-sketch type style of semi-realistic (not hyper realistic, not extremely stylised) drawings with muted, low to medium contrast colours (she also draws a lot of One Piece fan art if I recall correctly, but that wasn’t my focus. Does anyone know the artist? Damn my forgetful mind!)
Hi fellow Pyp x Grenn person, glad to make your acquaintance.
I wasn’t originally going to answer to any of these because there purpose is for a small bet/experiment between an irl friend and me, but you asked about the artist and I think you might mean @/sabotensan! She’s also a Asha/Qarl person and her art often has these very beautiful slice-of-life vibes that often depict domestic moments in the hell of a life the characters go through. I like her works a lot.
Also now that I’m answering this anyway: yeeeesss! More appreciation for the tertiary wall boys that I love! Fun enough I think there were one of my first ships in these books and I can pinpoint the moment I first started thinking about their relationship more strongly.
“He was saying I was big and stupid.” Grenn scratched at his beard. “If Pyp wanted to call me Aurochs, though, he could. Or you, or Jon.[…]”
That small choice in syntax was remarkable to me and I doubt GRRM meant anything by it and I thought it was very cute. They are on of the few wholesome ships I’m into.

Artist Spotlight: Isaac Vazquez Avila
Tumblr media
Isaac Vazquez Avila’s home studio is as inviting and intriguing as he is. Look in any direction and you are met with a self-portrait, a hanging fern, a sketchbook, a sculpture that likely has a fascinating backstory. This sense of wonder must be what Avila feels during his long walks through his neighborhood of Bernal Heights, where the objects he finds and the city itself are a source of continual inspiration: “[It’s] less about where I’ve been and more about… where did these things come from?” Which is what you can say about all of us who, having seen a lot of things along the way, choose to call San Francisco home.
Studio AHEAD: Text plays a not insignificant part in your paintings, often words or phrases in Spanish. What are your associations with Spanish? What are your associations with English?
Isaac Vazquez Avila: My use of text is drawn from things my dad and mom would say around the house, platitudes, and messages I see scrawled around in the environment outside my studios. My work in sign painting also has an influence on the way I approach text albeit in a more practical sense. I am surrounded by words and letters.
I use text as a way to lead the viewer’s imagination into the painting or sculpture. From there I hope it takes over and starts making its own associations. The text in my work functions as signposts to a destination, not the destination itself.
I incorporate words and phrases in Spanish and English in my work because it is what I know. Spanish is my mother tongue but I adopted English quickly after. Each language has a unique way of accessing different emotions, memories, thoughts, and rhythms. I feel privileged that I can speak and understand both because it widens the aperture through which I look at the world.
There are words in Spanish that don’t exist in English or are very difficult to describe and translate. If there’s a word that describes a certain emotion in Spanish and there is no word for it in English, does that mean that the emotion does not exist in English? It goes both ways. I think language falls short of what it tries to articulate or communicate. I love when it short circuits and something new fills its place. There’s humor and drama in those moments, and I think that’s where art comes into play. Art fills the gaps that language is unable to communicate. I’d like to think my work plugs in some of those gaps sometimes.
Studio AHEAD: A recent exhibition, “Como Siempre,” collects mixed media work based on your daily walks through Bernal Heights. Are these pieces a sort of travelog of where you’ve been?
Isaac Vazquez Avila: Walking is a ritual and part of my practice in life and in art. Its benefits touch creative, mental and physical aspects. It’s also a way to distance myself from my studio when I’m not feeling it and want to get out of my head. When walking you see life happening before you and my work is a reflection of that, whether that’s walking around in my own neighborhood, the beach or somewhere completely foreign to me.
The objects and materials used in my sculpture work for “Como Siempre’’ had a life before me. Their history is shown through their color, patina, form and material condition. I like the idea of extending the life of an object or bringing things back to life from obscurity or neglect. That’s why I use pre-existing materials and incorporate them into my work. I like second chances. There’s also the memories I’ve attached to the materials I find, which locate specific times, dates and remind me of the places where I sourced them. Those things are important to me, too; however it’s not something I feel I need to clearly lay out for the viewer. For me the sculptures are less about where I’ve been and more about… where did these things come from?
Studio AHEAD: What’s one of your favorite walks or at least most memorable?
Isaac Vazquez Avila: It’s hard to say, nothing beats getting tossed around during a walk while in the vortex that is Mexico City. I was recently in Madrid and my feet would not get tired of walking around, I loved it. One particular walk I remember is from a route I always take which starts from Bernal, down Mission to 16th and back. I was out on one of those really hot beautiful days in the afternoon and stopped by King’s Bakery to get a coffee and bread. I continued on and crossed 24th Street on Mission, birds chirping, sound blaring, people bustling. The first thing I see when I cross 24th Street is a guy on the sidewalk making a pot of gumbo in the sweltering heat. I walked a few steps and noticed two beautiful white poodles in a stroller getting pushed by their owner, a few moments later a fight broke on the sidewalk and shortly after I ran into some familiar faces. I felt like I was inside a Hieronymus Bosch painting, a surrealist depiction of ecstasy and horror and I loved it. One of my friends told me he watched a guy take a dead raccoon inside of the McDonald’s on 24th while on a walk. You can see all sorts of things if you put yourself out there.
Studio AHEAD: Maybe you’d like to speak more about Mexico, where you were born but where you did not return until later in life. There’s a blurred-memory aspect to a lot of your art…
Isaac Vazquez Avila: Mexico has always held a special place in my psyche. I was born and lived there until the age of 5 before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. My earliest memories are of Mexico City, experiencing the 1985 earthquake as a child and my dad taking me to bullfights. As a young person I longed to visit the place of my birth but was unable to do so until I was an adult. There was a time when I only knew Mexico in my imagination through secondary sources like the language I spoke at home, food, photos and stories I’d heard. I felt so close to it. I like thinking about the paradox of feeling like you know something so well and yet not knowing it at all. That duality is something that  attracts me and maybe a key to understanding the blurred memory aspect you mention in my work.
Studio AHEAD: I’m drawn to these butterfly wing pieces. Tell us more about them.
Isaac Vazquez Avila: I don’t have much to say about those at the moment. They are still kinda fresh and I’m just having fun making them. When I’m making work I try not to allow my thoughts to get in front of making the work. Of course I’m thinking about things, but the thoughts about what I’m actually doing are usually not resolved until after the work is done and I’ve sat with it for a while.
Studio AHEAD: What have you been experimenting with lately?
Isaac Vazquez Avila: I’ve been experimenting with scale and Venetian plaster and finding ways to incorporate it into paintings and sculptures. I’m excited about this woodturning lathe I recently bought which I think is going to allow me to make some interesting things. I’ve also been designing some functional objects for the home, we’ll see.
Studio AHEAD: We’ll end on a question for your cat, which we will translate into English for our readers: Meow mewmew mrkgnao? [If you could knock any of Isaac’s pieces on to the ground, which would it be?]
Isaac’s cat, translated: I’m a really good cat and would never knock Isaac’s stuff over on purpose. However, one of my favorite things to do is edge up to his delicately balanced sculptures as if I was. I love sitting on the hard surface of his paintings while he’s working on them and dipping my tail in his paint and tracking it around the house. I don’t do it out of malice but because I’m cute. I could never do wrong in his eyes.

Today I wanna talk a bit about this amazing tapestry by Laure Prouvost that I had the opportunity to see at the İstanbul Modern Art Museum.
Firsly, I want to touch on the chosen medium of the artwork, a tapestry. Tapestries, at least in my mind are very home-y. This sort of woven, soft texture is something you might see in a carpet. It's welcoming and cozy, and the softness of most of the colors the artist utilized also reinforces this comfortable environment.
Secondly, I love how text is utilized in this piece. It makes me think of something like the "speech scrolls" in 14th/15th century paintings and "comics". And I cannot for the life of me remember who did this and when, but I swear I have also seen other, older paintings that write text describing the thoughts of characters within the piece onto the background or objects within the composition? Yeah it reminds me very much of that.
The intimacy of many of these statements we see as text is heartwarming. And of course the many details that could be incomprehensible references to us, the average viewer, that has a story behind it that we are not privy too. Sometimes this is depicted literally, such as the sign that presumably reads something like "Room 15 could be in room 22", where we can't really be sure what the actual quote is due to the obscured parts of the sign. Other times, its something like the poetic "Here a palm tree in the shade a blue triangle relaxing naked", or any random object the artist specifically chose to include, like the microwave. These things are likely to have a story, some background to them that only the artist and any of their friends or partners who were with them in this studio can recall.
This piece depicts personal memories and nostalgia belonging to the artist, yet does it in such an abstract way that the average viewer, especially if they are also an artist, can still relate to the vaguely domestic living space.

ah yes, the bakusquad's resident pretty boy
he would definitely be the most obvious about his crush
two words: shitty flirting
horrible pick-up lines and just overall bad flirting
he pulls through sometimes though ( with sero's advice ) and his ego inflates through the roof if he can get you flustered and blushing
but if you give him the same energy, he will immediately combust
all function out the window
congratulations, you broke denki
none of your possessions are safe when denki is within the vicinity
shirts, hoodies, skirts, hats, jewelry, hair accessories
if he can grab it, he will have it
he has worn / stolen everything in your closet at least once, if not it is most definitely his goal
it does not matter if he fits it or not, he will make it work
he has no shame
but one time he stretched out one of your favorite skirts and it tore a bit and he felt soooo bad
"it not my fault i have a fat ass, y/n"
but he brought you to the mall on a date with him to get a new one, so it's all works out ;)
denki honestly just lives to make you laugh
every time he's the reason you're laughing, it makes his chest puff up so big
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON MF TICKLING
if you two are close, he will without a doubt start a mock wrestling match and it always turns into a tickling fit with you pinned underneath him and wailing
but do NOT under any circumstances tickle him
he with shriek like a girl and accidentally activate his quirk
you nearly died
HE FELT BAD FOR THAT TOO
he's also just so infatuated with like- everything you do????
it doesn't matter how mundane you think it might be, as long as you're doing it, denki is so enthralled watching whatever it is you're doing
it's rather endearing
in all honesty, he'd probably blurt out he likes you outta no where while in the middle of a convo
he lights up every time your name is so much as mentioned
or- or
he'd be day dreaming, completely lost in his own world and someone would come up to him and ask him what he's thinking ab cus he looks basically dead to the world
still in a daze from being abruptly brought back to reality he'd just dreamily sigh, "y/n~" without even realizing
mans was SO embarrassed afterwards
face was beet red
*frantically looks around to see if you heard him or not*

he's so emotionally constipated
that's not to say we wouldn't know he'd have feelings for you
he's actually pretty emotionally intelligent, and would be very perceptive of your emotions contrary to popular belief, he's just oblivious to his own feelings and emotions
he'd just ignore them
try his best to ignore you
key word try
but he always gives in and he'd make up dumb reasons to come bother you like-
he'd barge into your dorm while you're studying and he'd be like
"y/n i need a pen,"
"oh? uh ok, here you can have this one," you hand him a pen that you happened to have tucked behind your ear
"no not that one,"
...????
"can't you go to momo and ask her to make the pen you want..?"
bakugo starts to get grumpy at this point lmao
"no, she doesn't know how to make it,"
"well, what pen do you want..??"
bakugo hesitates cus he doesn't wanna admit that he doesn't actually want a pen, he wants to be with you
"that one," he lamely points at a beat up tinkerbell pen that you've had since you were like twelve
"really?? out of all the pens you choose that one?"
"shut up and just get it"
"... you can grab it,"
he goes and grabs it and goes to walk out the door without a word and right before he leaves he leans back and looks at you
"i need a pencil"
"OH MY GOD BAKUGO"
he kept the tinkerbell pen btw
like denki, bakugo would steal things from your dorm and not just anything, things that are actually inconvenient to misplace
he'd take your bobby pin container or your favorite brush so you'd come to him to ask where it went, he'd give it back ofc but not without a fight
he'd act totally clueless and he'd wait till you actually start to get pissed to tell you where he actually put your thing
so back to how he'd actually be very aware of your emotions
he'd notice the smallest changes and can always tell when you're upset but he wouldn't exactly know how to help you
so instead of using words, he'd use actions
you had a really bad day and he walked you to your dorm and when he came in he's like
"shit, your dorm is a fucking disaster, how do you live like this," you scowl at bakugo cus like- wtf i'm rlly emotional here you're not helping
he scoffs and bends down to start picking up your shit
"seriously, i have no idea how you find anything in here, nothing is organized" and he'd just keeps grumbling like an old man while completely cleaning and reorganizing your room
dont you dare try and help him though, he will yell at you

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
sero SCREAMS besfriends to lovers troupe
like- you two are already practically dating without even realizing it
the romantic tension
you guys banter and flirt with eachother so often, you both have no idea whether you're serious when you jokingly call the other sexy or not
the oblivious idiots troupe
sero makes everything a competition
not nearly to extent as bakugo would, but still goes a bit over the top
he'd use anything as an excuse to show off for you
one time, like the spiderman fanboy he is, he challenged you to see who can hang upside down the longest without passing out ( literally the stupidest idea, sero, you're going to loose braincells )
sero won, obviously and he takes full advantage of bragging rights
everyone says how denki's the flirt and whatever but NO
sero is the biggest mf flirt and denki got his game from him
so with that being said, you are not safe
HE IS A BULLY
he respects boundaries of course but that doesn't mean he's not gonna try and test his limits a bit and mess with you
he's always trying to get you flustered
god forbid you're shorter than him because he will tease the shit outta you for it
when you two train together, mf goes on overdrive ESPECIALLY if you two happen to be sparring together
he'd hover over you and lean his face in ever so slightly while your talking to him just to get a rise outta you
TILT YOUR HEAD UP WITH ONE FINGER
"could you repeat that? i'm having a hard time hearing,"
SHEEEEEEEE
but you also make fun of him for being tall, so it checks out
whenever he says some slick shit you're just like-
"I'm sorry, what? That's funny coming from someone who's above the national average height. you're disgusting, tall man; shrink perhaps" ( if anyone knows what tiktok audio i'm referencing, i'm in love with you )
hope you have your casket ready because sero's gonna slaughter your ass for that shit
ok but one time while you two were partnered up for hero training, you got on his nerves and he tied you up and left you hanging and the mf just left
maaaan were you livid
15 minutes
15 minutes you were left up there while sero was doing god knows what
you gave him the silent treatment for the rest of the day and sero was genuinely distressed cus he didn't mean to make you so mad
but lucky for him, he always knows how to get you to smile no matter how sad or are or how angry you are with him
he shoots you a piece of tape with his handwriting on it
he made up some stupid, horribly written poem asking for your forgiveness and he's just looking at you the entire time you're reading it with an exaggerated pout
how can you say mad at him?
on the topic of him sending you notes on his tape
he'd totally leave pieces of his tape in really obscure places in your dorm or even under your desk
they'd be really stupid messages too like-
"you stink"
or a really random inside joke you two have that makes literally no sense but even just the thought of it makes you laugh to tears
he'd also leave little origami figures he made with his tape in random places for you to find too
or he'd just give them to you
you have a shelf specifically dedicated for the things sero has made for you ( and he's really touched you actually keep all his shitty arts and crafts projects )
in conclusion, sero is the best and he is my favorite and i'd die for him

For the fanfic writer ask, 1, 16 and 18!
(link to ask game)
1. Who is your favorite character to write for and is this the character you find easiest to write for?
Lately I’ve really enjoyed writing for Azul!! He’s very versatile when I place him in various concepts, and he isn’t difficult to write for either! I’ve also found that writing for Kazuha is very entertaining. Scaramouche and Xiao are fun characters to write for as well.
16. Do you have a method for getting characters to sound/feel in character?
Sometimes I will look at artwork of the character I’m writing for to see how common a certain expression or gesture is, how they interact with other characters in the art, and what they’re doing/saying. I find that looking at art helps me visualize how they might act in a certain space/scene within the fic. I’ll also try to think like that character when writing. But if it’s particularly difficult, I’ll go back to the source and watch videos of the character in canon or read the wiki page.
18. What's the most obscure thing you've researched for a fic?
I’ll list a few things for your enjoyment!
weight of metal bat vs solid wood bat.
liquids that cause damage to skin - this is for a very specific scene in a yan!rook fic I’m drafting.
organ/human trafficking.
the cost to hire a hitman.
shark mating habits - this was for a yandere oc piece hehe.
island survival tactics - this was for a yan!childe fic that will never see the light of day (…unless 👀).

Retrospective: Illustrated Merlin Alphabet Challenge
Finally finished the Merlin Alphabet Challenge, so here's the artist notes no one asked for! See below the cut for comments on each piece by order of creation. Be warned folks, it's a long post.
Before we begin: credit to @merlin-gifs for the challenge, which can be found here. It's awesome, go do it.
First thing you should know is I did probably 80-90% of these while on phone calls or in Zoom meetings and that's reflected in the simplicity of most pieces -- the compositions aren't complicated, the lines aren't refined, the coloring is slapdash. If you noticed variation in quality of the pieces, that's why!
Second: I tried to focus on trying something new for each drawing. Didn't always happen, but this challenge did succeed in helping me push me out of my own comfort zone.
Without further ado...
A is for Arthur Pendragon
Textures, baby! Brushed metal of his armor, scratchy linen texture of his shirt, wispy softness of hair and skin. I'd recently gotten my tablet out of storage after a year of figuring out where the hell I was going to live and this was one of the first pieces of digital art I spent time on. Glad it was Arthur kicking us off!
B is for the Beginning of the End (1x08)
Fun fact, I did not draw this with my tablet. I drew it with my work computer's touchscreen. It was awful, would not recommend.
C is for Camelot
I wanted to get used to different brushes, so landscape of the castle it was! There are brushes that help with drawing grass; I did not use said brushes and my wrist hurt afterward. That being said, I really enjoyed working on this and it was one of the few pieces I didn't do while multitasking.
D is for Daegal
Also drawn on my work computer's touchscreen, not my tablet. I didn't learn my lesson from B and the experience was even worse. This is my least favorite piece which sucks because it's Daegal so I'm slated to redo this sometime in the near future. Gotta do our boy justice.
E is for Elyan
Oh, I adored drawing this. Elyan often gets shafted in terms of fandom appreciation so I made sure to choose Elyan for this prompt and to participate in the Elyan fest. Plus, I love a good ghost story and figuring out a way to include the druid spectre was fun. Didn't multitask on this piece because Elyan deserved my full attention.
F is for Freya
Ho boy. This piece. I have such mixed feelings on this drawing. Really really didn't like it after I'd decided it was done and very nearly scrapped the whole thing. I had a vision in my head that I just couldn't render into reality and it frustrated me SO MUCH. Looking back, I like it much better than I did when I first created it.
G is for Gwaine
What can I say, he's pretty when he's cold. I didn't stretch too much with this one -- it's my normal drawing style, I was just trying to find a brush that mimicked the softness of pencil.
H is for Hunith
Another one that didn't stray too far from my comfort zone. I was stupid sick and slammed at work, so a motherly Hunith manifested herself. I blame the bad brush choice on the cold medicine.
I is for Isolde
I woke up and chose violence! Tried to vary my figure drawing style a little in this piece but my brain resisted, resulting in... this. Not mad at it, but not happy with it either. Poor Isolde.
J is for Juggling
Ah, this lovely piece was drawn during a particularly vexing meeting at work. Fun fact, there's another version of this line art that's less about Merlin's stress and more about mine.
K is for Knights of Camelot
Continuing the theme of doodling through bad news and shit meetings. Like I said above, normally meeting doodles aren't complex because I'm concentrating on something else. This one was more involved because I didn't want to concentrate on the meeting. I have a few issues with this from a technical standpoint (perspective, my nemesis) but it's still one of my favorites. Tried some funky coloring technique, didn't hate it.
V is for Vibrant Colors
And here is where we said fuck the rules and started going out of alphabetical order! This one was really fun to do and I loved kicking off Albion Party with this as my first submission. The colors were a challenge (as I hoped they would be) and this is the first time I had to do some color tweaking midway though and after finishing the coloring process. Vibrant Arthur, my beloved. This started as a multitask doodle but took dedicated time to finish.
O is for Old Religion
The concept for this one was buzzing in my head for a bit before a quote-prompt solidified it. I adore the thought of more visible, tangible representations of Merlin as the son of the elements, of "magic itself" -- not just sun-gold eyes, but sea-water hair and sandstone-skin. A complement to the vibrant Arthur portrait.
S is for Sorcerers
When I said I wanted to challenge myself, I wasn't kidding. Ho boy, this was fun but frustrating. I wanted to completely illustrate a gif. So I did. Will I do something like this again? Maybe. A while from now.
M is for Morgause
See above -- same illustrated gif style so at least I was able to reuse some drawings. Poor Morgause ended up looking a little wretched here because I was mentally done with this when I was drawing her. Love the concept of tarot cards + Merlin but others are doing it so I won't continue this series.
Z is for Zzzz
This one was specifically done to test out some custom brushes I made in Krita to make abstract background drawing easier for me. I think they turned out well! Plus who doesn't love bb iridescent Aithusa.
L is for Leon, P is for Percival
Quick, minimal doodles of the boys! Mentally, I was going for a Brady's-style retro ensemble cast TV show credits feel. Not mad at it! Some boys look closer to their actors than others (I think my brain broke drawing Percy, my apologies to Tom Hopper).
T is for Tristan
It wasn't until after I posted this that I realized there was more than one Tristan in Merlin. Could have drawn Isolde's bf but I drew Ygraine's dumb jock undead brother instead. Had some fun with dark greys and blacks here regardless.
Q is for Queen Annis
Best royal in Albion, bar none. I tried a different coloring technique here and I kinda like it! may make it my go-to but we'll see. Old habits are hard to break. Also: our queen deserved more badass clothes.
X is for Arthur X Merlin
Oh, be still my shipper heart. Doodled and colored during a meeting. I had hoped to spend more time on it outside of multitasking but alas, work is a bitch. This one is slated for a rework sometime in the future; I adore the concept too much to let it go without creating another version of this that isn't an utter mess.
U is for Uther's Ward
And here's my attempt at forgoing line art. Not fun, do not like.
Y is for Young Warlock
Channeled some pain into this one. Those are the dead eyes of someone who had been told that he'd succeeded when his friend died. That the destiny he'd been expecting to carry on his shoulders into old age was done and dusted before he turned 30. Grief plus the existential dread of the aimless immortal. Oof. One of my favs.
N is for Nimueh, R is for Rising Sun, W is for Will
And we end on this sorry offering. I was away from home for a while without my tablet and I just got tired of waiting. So, pen doodles at the airport. This was a challenge in its own right because 1. pen only and 2. I wasn't able to pull Netflix up for a reference on the fly. Which is why Will's face is obscured and Nimueh looks.... not like Nimueh lol.
In summary: this was a goddamn joy to do. I finished 26 letter prompts in approximately 21 weeks, which exceeded my own unspoken goal of filling one letter per week. I found a good, happy corner of the Merlin fandom after a years-long hiatus away from being a fandom creator. If you did make it this far with me, thanks for reading my inane comments and giving this little project even a moment of your time -- I'm so grateful.

thoughts on Bela///Donna?
What a lovely can of worms you've placed in my inbox, dear nonnie. I cannot wait to open it and lose followers (regardless of what I actually say).
Since this is, uh, a subject of some debate among RE8 fans, I will be inputting my thoughts on the idea of the ship (and the possible controversy), as opposed to doing HCs or something for it (which I recognize might be what you were asking for, despite the excessive /s).
This is all based on my playthroughs of the game, as well as what I've managed to double check on the fandom/wiki for it. I know that a lot of people who read fanfic for the game haven't actually played it, likely having been lured in by Tall Vampire Milf, and so I hope that some people will be open to a reminder of, like, canon vs fanon? I've mentioned in a previous post that there's a lot of details for RE8 that are not made clear, and I feel the need to reiterate that in this post. Capcom left a lot of stuff up to people's imaginations, or kind of just hinted at in game or in concept art.
But more importantly, regardless of what game we're talking about, regardless of the conclusion I come to (and the one you come to) at the end of this post, I want to say that I absolutely understand the need/desire to have your own perspective/take on the characters from the game, as well as their dynamics. If a ship makes you uncomfortable because you see the characters as being family members, it's totally okay. Block the ship tag, or filter it out when you look through fandom stuff, don't follow people who post for it, etc, etc.
If you think of characters as being family-family (like, not just "we got married and are now a family" but, like, "we're siblings/parent and child") and still ship them? uh. sorry, bruv, maybe think of hitting that unfollow button. No, seriously, hit that unfollow button. This blog is anti-incest, thank you very much.
The last thing I'll say before putting it under a read-more (for both length and major RE8 spoilers) is that I recognize that I might have missed something, either in game or developers talking about things on social media, and so if you read through this and go "god, J, you're such a dumbass for forgetting *critical piece of media*" or even just "okay but have you seen *small but meaningful piece of media*?" please. Just. Please. Tell me. Link me to that shit. I WANT to know if I'm wrong. I've literally avoided talking about this for as long as I could in order to TRY and make sure I have all the context I need.
With that said, let's examine what context we are given for Alcina Dimitrescu, Bela Dimitrescu, Donna Beneviento, and their relations to each other. I will be leaving my personal thoughts on Bela///Donna at the very end of this, as somewhat of a conclusion, somewhat of just a "hey, this is what you technically asked me about".
Firstly, let me begin by explaining what I consider to be the 3 tiers of "canon"
In-Game/Direct: The highest, truest tier, the definitive canon. This is everything that takes place in game, excluding certain hallucination scenes (ex: Mia was not really in House Beneviento, but we can infer some things from what Donna made Ethan hallucinate about). Things either happen, or are directly stated by characters. There's some wiggle room for dialogue, as characters can lie, but overall we, as the audience, assume we are being told the truth. At the very least, games usually eventually make it clear when a character has been dishonest. Examples of Direct Canon include the following: Ethan is infected with the mold, Lady Dimitrescu drinks blood, Heisenberg wears sunglasses, Mother Miranda can shapeshift.
Concept Art/Developer's Notes/Indirect: Mid-tier and debatable, the "we think, but we're not sure" of canon. Resident Evil: Village contains lots of concept art that the players can browse through, all of which include notes from the developers about the game, characters, environments, and story. Sometimes the notes make something "direct", but oftentimes they do not specify whether the listed idea is still canon or if it was removed during development. This tier also includes information that is implied/can be inferred from tier 1 information, but is not directly stated. Examples of Indirect Canon include the following: Donna's mother died by suicide, Moreau was going to have his lover fused to his back, Duke was originally a fifth lord, Heisenberg was going to have a twin. As you can see, not all of the concept art ideas made it into the final version of the game, so it can be hard when some information seems like it might still be true (such as the matter of Donna's parents).
Fanon/"False": Sometimes collective ideas in a fandom become so widespread that people start interpreting them as actual canon. Sometimes it gets hard to remember what's just obscure lore and what's fanon. When we get a piece of fiction as overall vague as a lot of Resident Evil: Village is, there's bound to be some confusion over time. That's one of the main reasons I waited to talk about Bela////Donna until after I had recently replayed relevant sections of the game, as I wanted to remind myself of what we're actually told. Examples of False Canon are difficult to pinpoint, but might include things like: Hufflepuffs are good at finding things? The Avengers got along for awhile and all had their own rooms in the tower? There's a number scale for the danger level of ghosts in Danny Phantom?
For this post, I will be limiting the majority of my notes to the first two levels of canon, and will do my best to mark them as such. Now... let us... begin.
Alcina Dimitrescu:
Born no later than 1914, Alcina Dimitrescu was 44 years old when she was granted the Cadou by Mother Miranda. (1st Tier: Canon. Source: A note in the castle basement from a servant is dated 1958, and mentions both Alcina and her children. Secondly, Miranda's experiment notes state that Alcina was the 181st subject, and was given the Cadou at age 44. By doing math, we can then determine the earliest Alcina could have been born.)
Alcina refers to the other Lords as her family once without any disdain (when Ethan first arrives at the castle and is caught, Alcina says "you've escaped my little brother"). In a private journal (located near where she threw the infamous vanity) she insults the other Lords, and expresses anger that she is "treated like a sister to them". She argues with Heisenberg without any hesitation, and seems honest in her hatred of him (per Maggie Robertson's wunderbar performance). (1st Tier/2nd Tier: Canon with a sprinkle of interpretation for the last line)
Alcina openly refers to Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela as her daughters, and wrote in her experiment journal that she felt instantly connected to them (as mother and daughters). (1st Tier: Canon).
Bela Dimitrescu:
Likely born in the 1930's or 1940's, in order to be an adult by 1958 (the first dated appearance of the Dimitrescu daughters). (2nd Tier: Based on inference)
Dialogue shows that all three of the daughters do love their mother, and reinforces the bond Alcina's journal mentions. (1st Tier: Canon)
We are not given any information about how Bela feels about the other Lords, or even what she knows about them. Once can assume that she shares the ideas of her mother, either because Alcina tells her things directly, or because Bela (who is eager to please her mother) picks up on them over time. (2nd Tier: Based on inference)
Donna Beneviento:
No idea when she was born. If you've read one of my recent posts, then you know that it's almost entirely a matter of 2nd and 3rd tier canon.
Of the four lords, Donna seems to have the most story within the 2nd tier, and has very, very little in the 1st tier. Duke says she's somewhat isolated, and that her "playmates" never leave the house. Miranda's notes state that Donna is mentally ill, and the gardener's diary states/implies (bit of both) that Donna has severe social anxiety. (1st/2nd Tier: Mostly canon)
Supposedly, her parents committed suicide while she was still a child. This is indicated in concept art/the attached developer's notes. However, the only part that's also directly stated in game is that her parents (specifically her father) died while she was young. (1st/2nd Tier: Mostly canon)
While Donna only has one voice line in the game (and it's sad), Angie talks a fair bit. Angie seems to disapprove of the other Lords, or at the very least enjoys mocking them, as well as enjoys watching them fight with each other. As Angie is connected to Donna, and Donna has some level of control over her, one can assume that the two have similar (if not the same) opinions. (1st/2nd Tier: Mostly Canon)
Donna was adopted by Mother Miranda as an adult. It's unclear exactly how old Donna was, or what exactly Miranda did as her "mother", just that Donna was excited about it. (1st Tier: Canon)
Other Relevant Information:
Heisenberg refers to the other Lords as his siblings a minimum of 1 time. Similarly to Alcina, however, he openly insults them and seems to hate them. He just, you know, hates Mother Miranda the most. (1st Tier: Canon)
Mother Miranda does not actually give a shit about the four Lords, intended for them to die before the ceremony, and has been manipulating them for her own gain this entire time. Her notes and dialogue make it clear that she only cares about getting Eva back. Somehow mother of the year and worst mother ever. At the same time. (1st/2nd Tier: Mostly Canon)
It's unclear who treats Alcina "like a sister" to the other Lords. Were there cut lines of dialogue that cemented the idea of them being a "family"? Did Miranda call them a "family" as part of pretending she cared about them? I've done my best to dig around, but there's very little in game that treats them as a family of any sort.
As each Lord ruled their own section of the region, they don't have any mentions of interacting with each other outside of meetings with Mother Miranda. None of the notes for any Lord (and their relevant experiments) mention what the others are doing. In game, their environments are very separate, very well divided, though this is likely as much for gameplay as it is for story.
Conclusion:
I do not not believe there is enough in game evidence to suggest that Alcina and Donna consider themselves to be siblings. There's the possibility for a large age gap, Alcina was a fair bit older than Donna when she met Miranda, Donna is a social recluse whose closest bonds were with dead blood relatives and dolls, Alcina openly dislikes (if not hates) the other Lords, they seemingly lived very separate and distanced lives, and Mother Miranda does not enforce the idea of "family". Furthermore, the sheer contrast between how Alcina interacts with/speaks of the other Lords compared to how she interacts with/speaks of her daughters says a lot about her feelings. Even if Heisenberg takes the brunt of her anger, Alcina never once says anything remotely positive about anyone other than Miranda and her daughters.
As Alcina/Bela and Donna are not blood-relatives, the definition of what would count as "incest" does vary depending on who you ask. Personally, I do count non-blood relations as potentially incestuous. For example: Alcina "dating" one of her daughters would be incest, regardless of the fact that she's a mutated human and her daughters are weird swarms of flies.
Now, I do understand how popular the idea of the four Lords being a real, chaotic but still close family is. And as I mentioned above, it's totally valid to not like the Bela///Donna ship, whether it's because you think they're family or some other reason. I don't personally see them that way, even in my definitely-not-canon stories.
Do I personally ship Bela///Donna? Nope. Have I liked art for the ship? Admittedly yes, even if I thought some of it was, like, maiden x Bela because Donna didn't have her veil and I'm a DUMBASS who doesn't always remember to read tags. Would I ever write for it? Yeah, probably, assuming I didn't miss anything in game/that I don't eventually change my mind.

Agatha Christie, INFJ, and Writers
First, thank you for posting guest submissions - that “high-Fi flaws” submission was so well written (although painful, since I’m a high-Fi person, and see myself in it).
Second, I’m so excited that your book will have a section on how different types write! That sounds so fun and interesting!
And on that vein, I’ve been reading a lot of Agatha Christie novels lately. In an older post you typed Agatha Christie as an INFJ. That typing was in my mind while reading and what’s interesting to me is that for a high Ni-type her books are (in my opinion) not very abstract.
I can see Fe people focus (Poirot cares less about sensory clues like fingerprints than about psychological clues - how different suspects think and if the type of crime committed rings true with their personalities). I can see Ti in her complicated puzzle-like plots (they feel like they could have been written from the solution/inside out). I can even see inferior Se in that although she obviously has a very observant eye, she doesn’t often give much time to sensory details other than brief sketches. Her psychological portraits are better than her physical portraits.
But N types are always spoken of as being “big picture” people who can zoom out, consider the abstract, extrapolate a singular truth from a collection of details, and so on. Poirot and other characters do draw truth from a collection of facts to solve the mysteries, and Christie highlights universal emotions such as guilt, fear, love, etc., but the stories still feel very grounded to me. I just read “And Then There Were None” (about the ten people trapped on the island) and a different writer might have spent a lot more time reflecting on how guilt and fear can destroy sanity, or perhaps discussing moral relativism in regard to the different crimes the characters are accused of. Those concepts are there—you can see that she is highlighting how different types of selfishness (self-righteousness, fear of loss, desire for power, etc.) can lead to murder, but it’s a tense, fast-paced story that doesn’t have time for much reflection.
I haven’t read all her novels yet, but so far I don’t pick up the Ni-dom art quality of being obscure, dealing with personal symbolism, etc. (a la “The Fountain,” which you have mentioned as an example of Ni-dom symbolism or art).
Anyway, what I’m getting at is not that you typed her incorrectly, but that writers may not always reflect their MBTI obviously in their writing. What do you think? Do writers’ subject matter or style typically give away their type or is it more complicated than that?
What made me think of this is that I was wondering if you would ever be interested in being paid to read a short story to type a character or the writer. Just short pieces - definitely things that would take less time to read than it takes to watch a movie. No worries if that wouldn’t be your thing though (reading requires a different kind of attention than watching a movie, and I know you already do a lot of writing/reading for your job and your own projects). The thought just occurred to me!
Thank you again for all your hard work, and good luck with the book!
Ooh, interesting post! I have considered alternative types in the past for her, but I doubt they could come up with the specific ways Poirot solves crimes. She seems to have written ‘what she knows’ (a method of thinking) much as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (ESTP) did with Sherlock Holmes (ISTP) (somewhat based on his Ni-using Professor Bell). She also, as I said, wrote so many books in such little time that she obviously had to have known exactly what they were about and who was responsible for the death beforehand and then just sat down and wrote them without much revision (Ni, not Ne).
So, back to your ending questions -- no, I don’t think you can always tell a writer from what they write or the style in which they write, but there are often clues (such as her sparseness and lack of emphasis on sensory things). I suspect people could guess me as an NFP from the fantasy stories I’ve written in the past, but not from my rather straightforward and crisp Tudor novels. (Though they could always tell I’m a feeler because of the character-focus, the relationship focus, and the need to explore the emotions that drive people to do things.) C.S. Lewis is often called an INFP, but I think he was an INFJ (used to think INTJ, but now I suspect FeTi). His children’s books are so straightforward, linear, and lacking in details and seem clear in their personal intent, I see Ni. And his theological works seem heavily into pulling things apart to understand them. I guess what I’m trying to say is -- seeing a writer explore a more abstract concept is going to give you a more clear indication of their type than a mystery novel or a western or a romance. Sometimes these things are big indicators (like The Fountain) and sometimes they are just small ones (like how Poirot thinks). But writing is very personal and you do leave your fingerprints all over it.
As for being paid to type a character from a short story -- I might consider it. Sounds kind of fun. :)
