the maya and osiris parallels continue to fuck me up. Both of them reaching across timelines to save their partners and while Maya won't stop until she finds the right Chioma, the perfect one that will agree with her vision for the universe, the "real" Chioma, and will throw away any version of her that isn't perfect, Osiris broke time for the chance to save Saint-14, and it didn't matter to him which Saint it was, because to him they're all the "real" Saint

Hmmm just gonna spit this headcanon out in text post form since A. I don't think I could exposit it well enough in image form and B. It's not actually textually/thematically substantiated and I don't like actually staking my stuff on just vibes alone*

But anyway. I'd say it's pretty evident that all the islanders forgot their names, right? King obviously. Because why the hell else would he do that, but also Siffrin No Middle Names No Last Name.

They're 'pretty sure' they've 'always' been 'Just Siffrin' 'as long as they can remember'. It's a pretty cruel twist of the knife to say that they don't even get to keep their birth name as a memento, which is why I'm saying as such.

My utterly unsubstantiated claim is I think it'd be cute to say that Sisyphus *is* the name Siffrin initially picked, assuming the myth of King Sisyphus is recontextualised as idk, just a play or something in the setting. But I like the idea of Siffrin going 'oh shit 🫵 he's just like me fr' at a tortured fictional character long before the irony kicks in.

As for how Sisyphus -> Siffrin. I think that chronic mumbler and emotional doormat Sif just did not correct people who misheard the name during their time travelling, and went through enough places with incompatible phonologies (pronounceable sounds in the language) without ever really writing it down that it just got kinda. Changed until it was unrecognisable, and Siffrin just went with it until the earlier pronunciations slipped out of their swiss-cheese brain. And they just kinda don't remember any of that.

Also, something something the horrid realisation that Siffrin also named themselves after a King. Just not as blatantly.

*(though I think there's something here about Siffrin, a guy from a belief system that seems to thoroughly disincentivise autonomy and self-motivated choice continuously having their hand forced to make changes/choices they don't want but have no choice but to... It's not solid enough to really back this up tbh, but it informs it.)

i think the primary reason why K/S has such overwhelming appeal is and always shall be that it is, at its core, a soulmate bond that has to be forged. the only way a t'hy'la bond can manifest is through shared toil, hardships, and undying devotion; it must be given effort and put together piece by piece - but at the same time, by the nature of its creation, it alters all realities on a cosmic level, to the point that Kirk and Spock must meet in every universe.

t'hy'la is not spontaneous. it is not a soulmate mark, it doesn't spring to life at first sight or first touch or first word. it is destined - because it is chosen, time and time again. you cannot have one without the other

i think it's incredibly interesting to see how easy it would have been to recruit percy. if luke omitted the shoes from his initial plan. then percy would've returned to camp angry at zeus for being a neglectful parent and king. angry at hades for encasing his mother in gold and trapping her near-dying soul in the underworld. angry at hephaestus for designing a trap to encase other demigods in gold as a test of faith. and angry at athena for leaving annabeth to die over something that was his fault alone. not to mention that hermes and poseidon are the only gods percy would tolerate because they've expressed remorse and longing for their mortal family. and i think that is where percy and luke would have clashed had luke been successful in recruiting him. luke insisting the gods will never change. and percy over the years learning that maybe they can. and then annabeth telling percy about the great prophecy. and he has to decide if he wants to follow destiny or create his own.

I swear, nothing makes me go bonkers fucking yonkers quite like comparing Athena and Apollos' introductions to the WAA.

When Phoenix asked Athena to come work for the agency, he reached out overseas to get in contact and offer her a job. When Phoenix asked Apollo to come work for the agency, he didn't even mention what the business was called or what they actually did.

On Athena's first day in court, Phoenix showed up and took over for her when she started to break down. On Apollo's first day in court, Phoenix made him an accomplice in crime and almost ruined his career.

When Athena introduces her childhood best friend to the WAA, they get her cleared of murder charges and save a friendgroup. When Apollo tries to introduce his childhood best friend to the agency, he dies before that can even happen.

When Athena returns to the space center, she is greeted by the robots with open arms. When Apollo returns to the space center, he is greeted by the name of a dead man.

When Phoenix sought out Athena as a protégé, it was because he realized how much she was hurting. When Phoenix sought out Apollo as a protégé, its because he realized how much he could be used to hurt others.

I genuinely think Destiny‘s story/lore is best enjoyed alongside the interpretations and perceptions of others.

Destiny lore has always stood out as phenomenal to me for its rich influences being utilized in ways that make an interesting universe, but what really breathes life into it for me is how much joy I receive when I get to share my thoughts with others and receive thoughts in return!! Some of my favorite aspects or entries were brought up by other people, either my friends or people in the community who post! There are things I am now enamored with that I completely missed when first engaging with that part of the lore or was completely unaware of that I only know of now because of others.

Everyone has interpretations that are affected by their identity, environment, and life experiences and seeing the diverse array of perceptions that are from people who differ from me in those regards has added so much to the lore! A reference I wasn‘t familiar with being pointed out means I can now draw new parallels, a mythology being used to analyze a plot beat helps me better understand how Destiny’s themes are articulated, a cultural view given on a certain character’s actions gives me perspective on how fiction reflects realities I have not experienced, etc. It’s all so exhilarating!!

I especially like when people use their schooling and specializations to flesh out the Destiny universe in ways the lore lacks!! I turn into the biggest nerd over that!! I’ve learned so much and have had my world view altered off of some of the insights people provided about Destiny!!

Who would have thought a game about community and valuing the perspectives of others would encourage you to engage with and contribute to a community in order to get value out of the perspectives of others
