a minuscule splatter of 'female coded misogynistic men in asoiaf?! how dare' echo of conversation on my dash has me thinking of how on the one hand grrm does a tiny little bit of gender play with most his characters but on the other hand, if we only look at the male characters, there are a few where he very clearly does a demasculinisation/feminisation/you-are-the-woman thing but also several where he doesn't. very clearly for instance, he does it with jaime, theon and sam, each in different ways. but i also was thinking of how aeron greyjoy has no lick of "what if he was the woman" wordplay or themeplay at all. we all know these conversations quickly devolve into several annoying directions one of which being "oh so you are saying that a victimised man becomes a woman and that's how he's feminised?" but clearly that's not it. jaime, theon and sam are feminised explicitly. aeron, for instance, while echoed with melisandre as female character, is never feminised, not in his arc, not in his victimisation, not in his relationship to euron.

With Aegon's dream as well, I think he also used the dream to justify a conquest as some sort of heroic quest in his mind when his want for power was definitely part of it as well.

Yea. Imo what makes the prophecy such a cool addition to the books is that we now have something that seemingly gives the Targaryens a "divine" mandate of sorts. With this prophecy, they now have a noble calling. Fate dictates that they serve a higher purpose, them and their dragons. It instils in them a sense of noblesse oblige I'd imagine. They're the heroes, and as heroes they have a duty to the realm. But just because they're chosen ones doesn't mean they're the only ones. Far from it. Even now, with two Targaryens being central to the conflict, there still exists one Bran Stark whose magic is decidedly NOT Valyrian, but he is just as central to this story if not more so. Even Jon Snow, the last of the Targaryen heirs, uses First Men magic. Not to mention that there are so many people (i.e., the Night's Watch) who have no magical destiny, but they see a duty to the realm just the same. Don't they matter too?

Aegon's actions, or lack thereof, speak to a certain human fallacy in placing any one person as the supreme hero in this story. Because it's not until Alyssane that the Targaryens even paid attention to the Watch, an entity whose entire existence is to stop the Others/Winter. Why didn't Aegon himself do anything? Why didn't he leave instructions for his future descendants to help the Watch either? Did he think that the three conquerors and their dragons would be enough? But that would be so silly because there's no record that they held any extensive tours of the north/the Wall to try and understand what threat they were facing. The winter that brings the Others is magical, and there's the chance that dragons will have a very hard time even flying to begin with. So imagine not strengthening the front line to hold until you get there? Who knows how long the dragons would take to even get to the Wall in the first place.

We really don't know anything so it's all just speculation atp. But regardless, his actions do come off as being rather egoistic. The Watch is the first line of defense. And if the Wall falls, Winterfell is the next front line. Why didn't they even bother to strengthen Winterfell? Maybe I've read too many Wuxia stories but it's always kind of funny how a good emperor is often characterized as one who fully and wholeheartedly supports the general in charge of his front line with troops, money, and other resources. That general in this case is the Lord of Winterfell/Warden of the North. Why he did nothing to bring the Starks into the fold before Rhaegar and Lyanna is beyond me; but to Jace's credit, he did try. But imagine. Aegon didn't look north to Winterfell, but instead looked south to Dorne. You have to laugh.

Aegon reminds me of Azor Ahai tbh - or what we're told of him. It's the story of one singular hero who sacrifices someone else and gets to go down in history as the guy who defeated the enemy. Except it's so diametrically opposed to actual Westerosi legends of who ended the Long Night: legends of the last hero and the NW tell stories of a team effort, with no singular person being exalted as the one responsible for the Others' defeat. Even with the last hero, the children of the forest are the key to success.

But at the end of the day, Aegon's legacy as the conqueror will have good and bad in it. Did he have a huge ego? Sure. Did his silly chair do way more harm than good in the long run? Definitely. BUT, hundreds of years later, it's his descendant who is emboldened as a king of a united realm to go north and do his duty. Stannis is acting as the Protector of the Realm, the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, legacies left by Aegon. Jon Snow, the last of Aegon's heirs in Westeros, wants to save all men. All of Aegon's kingdom. And I'm not saying that Jon wouldn't want to save humanity if the kingdoms were split up, but it's a lot easier to conceptualize duty when you have one unified people to think about. And it will be Daenerys, Aegon the Conqueror come again, who understands that a queen belongs to all people. Which may not have landed as much had Aegon not conquered and united Westeros under one king to begin with.

Gods be good Sansa, you are an absolute child. First of all, Jon is King. King in the North. Meaning he is your King. He doesn't need to ask your opinion. You are not a political advisor, nor someone trained to sit on a war council, nor even raised with an education be a lord. Your short time sitting in on smallfolk court sessions in the Vale was nowhere near what it takes to understand what being a lord, leader, king, or war commander is like. Jon has nothing to gain from your lack of insight.

Not to mention, the one time you complained to him that he didn't ask your opinion, he then asked you to say what you were thinking and you immediately proceeded to get upset and whine that you didn't know what to do. Not to mention you then wrote to recruit the Knights of the Vale without ever telling Jon that you had an army at your aid which was fully untouched by war and let Jon command what little Northerners and Free Folk he had into a bloody slaughter, then showed up so late it was entierly possible Jon could've been dead by that point. Clean on your nice horse getting to play hero to a battle you refused to tell Jon you had an ally for. Why would Jon *ever* ask for your opinion after that?

Also also, you argued with him in front of the entire court of lords when he was King. You told him he was wrong for wanting to let the innocent sons and daughters of once traitors to keep a home that had been theirs for thousands of years. When disposing the home of one of your own bannerman when the guilty parties all died in battle is actually never something the Starks have done. Battle by the way, is established as a situation which Jon fully believes acts as a judging sentence. That if you die in battle your crime has been paid for and it is time to move passed it. You are going against what the North believes in Sansa, by demanding to punish an entire house, also consisting of children by the way, to be forced from their homes. And then when Jon was gone you have spent this entire time complaining that hes not good enough to be King, despite that being so open about that is treason.

Also also also, "the way he's always been?" You mean hes always been the brother of yours that you tended to ignore and not be very fond of because of you grew up holding classis views and saw him as lesser then because he was a bastard? And therefore he has never had a reason to go to you with trust?

Listen, I too think Jon bending the knee is entierly out of character and not something he would ever actually do. But that still doesn't justify why Sansa has been nothing but endlessly hostile and antagonistic towards him. Jon has done nothing but risk his life for his family and the North, you have not ever risked your life like that. You are nothing like Robb and nothing like Jon and you have no justified reason to be so openly hostile about his every choice.

Take a note from Stannis's book, Sansa. Just because you don't agree with what your brother is doing, doesn't mean you get to act high and mighty and defy his orders when that brother is also King. You want to be Lady of Winterfell or Queen in the North? Try doing your duty first, and respect your King.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I have a bad feeling that Arya will care more about what happened to Jeyne Poole than Sansa will. Arya is more empathetic and realistic whereas Sansa's more callous and tends to ignore things if they ruin her fantasy. She doesn't even think much how LF is giving Corbray underage boys to molest. I could also see Petyr telling Sansa that Arya is lying about what happened to Jeyne.

I do think if Sansa is confronted with what happened to Jeyne Poole, as in meeting her or hearing about what was done to her, then of course she is going to be sympathetic. Jeyne was her good friend. She liked Jeyne.

The problem with Sansa so far is that there is no deeper thinking going on. It's all very superficial, maybe because she wants it that way in order to keep everything nice, unproblematic and like in the stories.That’s been a Sansa trait since book one.

There’s no deep thinking here. Same as when Sansa overhears Littlefinger’s price gouging schemes enacted upon a starving Westeros. She is more horrified at Harry the Heir calling her a bastard. 

Or when she wonders where Jeyne Poole is and what happened to her - when in AGoT Sansa was in the room with Cersei and LF and hears LF asking for Jeyne and Cersei handing her over! So all she needs to do to find out what happened to Jeyne is ask Littefinger. Which she does not.

However, if a brutalized Jeyne was standing right in front of Sansa? Then of course, there’s no way she can shove that aside or ignore it. She would most definitely be sympathetic, be angry on her behalf and try to help her.

Still, I doubt very much that Sansa and Jeyne are ever going to meet again. Jeyne is on her way to the Wall and most probably headed to Braavos from there. There’s a reason Jon Snow will be dead when Justin Massey and Jeyne get to the Wall. Again, no one’s going to recognize that Jeyne is not Arya. 

In TWoW Massey wanted a lordship or marriage to Asha - both of which Stannis denies him. And quite a few of Stannis’ kingsmen and queensmen want to become lords and be given land in the North - see Ser Patrek and Val. Stannis himself writes to Jon mentioning an arranged marriage for Arya

With Jon dead at the Wall, I can therefore see Massey taking ‘Arya’ with him to Braavos as someone he can marry to claim Winterfell. And then in Braavos, Arya meets ‘Arya’ and find out what’s happening in the North in her absence. And then the fun begins!!

Okay, I am here now.

I think one major aspect of Selyse's character is that she is a woman who has failed in this society. She fails womanhood, she fails wifehood, she fails motherhood and nobody ever shows her sympathy or understanding. Nobody ever says "You are not to fault." for the things she is blamed for.

Selyse's first failing of womanhood comes from her appearance, unlike most of the important female characters we see in the series (with the notable exception of Brienne) she is very explicitly described to be conventionally ugly. When she is described they describe her big ears, her stern mouth, her sharp nose and especially her moustache. Anytime she is brought up in conversation or in the thoughts of our POV characters they have to mention just how ugly she is and how if they were Stannis they wouldn't want to be near her either.

And Selyse's first failing goes in hand with her second. She fails at being a wife. People know she and Stannis don't sleep together often, even if they don't know the detail of once or twice a year. And the only person they ever criticize for it is Selyse, the ugly woman. What man would want to bed her anyway?

And her third failing only adds insult to the injury. She has no sons, it is already something to be blamed for as a woman in this society. But it also something that could be in part, forgiven if she had an adorable, pretty little daughter. Instead Shireen is hit with greyscale as an infant and has a permanent disfigurement in her face. So not only is Selyse an ugly woman and a bad wife who can't do her job and give her husband a son but the only child she has, a daughter, is ugly, like her. Stannis' misfit daughter and wife.

We do not get a POV of Selyse, we do not know her feelings. But I imagine when Stannis left for King's Landing for months on end she must have felt at least a bit self-conscious. If I was her I know as much I would know my husband has to leave for duty, a part of me would still think that the reason he doesn't want me and our daughter to come with him is because he is ashamed of me, ashamed of us. And I cannot imagine that is a pleasant feeling for a woman to experience. Especially one in a society where her worth so explicitly connected to her husband. She is estranged, on Dragonstone of all places, somewhere she feels no sense of belonging to. Stannis just... leaves her.

And the thing is that unlike for example, Brienne who fails womanhood but has the choice of existing out of the idea of ideal feminity (though it is not much of a choice but a thing life has pushed her into because of the way she looks and it does have tremendous effect on her life which I will not talk about here because it is not a Brienne post) Selyse does not have the luxury to try and exist out of the ideal of womanhood. Instead especially now, as the Queen she is supposed to embody the ideal of womanhood in Westeros. She is trapped in the confines of a role she can't possibly serve. It only makes sense that she is bitter. When you do everything in your power and it is still not nearly enough you grow frustrated, you grow bitter.

And not to mention the whole thing with Melisandre, someone who is kind to her. From what we have seen Selyse doesn't have that most of the time. The people talking about her all come from a place of judgement or mockery so finding a genuine friend must have been thrilling for her. But guess what, that friend is sleeping with her husband (who refuses to sleep with her, his own wife) and will most likely sacrifice her daughter to the Lord of Light.

Because Selyse can't have anything nice. Those are for pretty girls with pretty children and caring husbands. Not for the ugly woman with a deformed daughter and a husband who can't stand her presence.

He doesn't care who they are; if it's Robert he's going to be 150% even more pissed because his brother should know better than to insult his sister-in-law and Stannis will never ever have patience for Robert's shit. A surprisingly fiery side will come out as he barks at them to hold their tongue before he has it cut out.

When you're speaking up and discussing matters of state, because Stannis knows you're capable and therefore you speak openly in his court, and some lord dares to slyly (or outright) insult you, Stannis will shut that down in a more cold, icy way.

If someone subordinate to him consistently tries to mess with you, they'll be punished. Period. If it's someone of equal rank to him or higher, he'll still raise hell and hold a grudge for all eternity. Even if you've moved past it.

Your family might be tricky because he might have to maintain good relations with them, but ... He'll be radiating rude "fuck off" energy and answer them with clipped responses. If they're the type to be passive aggressive with you or do backhanded comments, he'll eventually get sick of it.

hey first of all I'M SO SORRY I'M ANSWERING THIS SO LATE I had... a few busy days™ and I missed this in the middle of stuff but in order, considering that it's an AU I would really REALLY like to read: thing is if we have f!stannis then renly is automatically the heir and if shireen exists then stannis has to either be married to someone else or being involved so however you go at it stannis isn't next in line so it depends on how you spun that (like if f!stannis was involved with f!davos/m!marya then she'd be in a rather precarious position, if she's married to another lord it's another question and depends on whether the lord married up or not - like idk f!stannis/ned would be a match between equals because it's big houses, f!stannis/a baratheon bannerman of good standing would be the dude marrying up etc) there's the following things to take into account:

the main reason there's resentment in the first place in canon is that stannis feels that robert has passed him over in favor of renly when giving him their seat/storm's end when stannis is the reason why he won the war and renly doesn't seem to be thankful that stannis almost resorted to cannibalism during that siege but he seemingly isn't traumatized by that because he never mentions it so obviously he made sure he never starved plus renly looked down on shireen/never stood up for him and wants to pass him when stannis has the technically right claim because people like him better basically

now in an f!stannis setting this would change because the kingship thing is moot as f!stannis wouldn't be considered anyway if renly existed and if she was married to an equal she wouldn't live in storm's end and if she was married to a lesser lord that lord would prob. come to live in SE, and if robert gave her dragonstone just because anyway f!stannis couldn't see it as a slight because like you generally don't gift your sister that kind of seat if you're the king, so you should see what exactly would the conflict be in here - the fact that renly doesn't like stannis that much nor has anything nice to say about shireen or isn't thankful for how stannis kept them alive you could take, everything else depends on how you spin the whole marriage thing

I always wonder about Theon and Jon's similar wishes yet their thoughts on how to achieve that are so different. They have to be different. Theon is "allowed" by societal customs to want to marry Sansa, in his thoughts, in order to be accepted as a Stark and Ned's son, something that is at least possible. But Jon is not even allowed that, he is Sansa's half brother. Jon's best course of plan for becoming a true Stark was "proving" himself worthy of Ice. Not to mention him wanting Winterfell is on another level of delusion, not just any castle, but Winterfell specifically. Under normal circumstances where there is no war and Robb doesn't die, there is at least a non zero chance of Theon marrying Sansa, but Winterfell and Ice are so far unreachable for Jon, its not even funny. And this is the best way he could think of getting his father's approval. Theon's situation was also bleak, but in another way, because at least Jon didn't have to live everyday in fear of dying. However what actually makes them different is that Theon tried to get his wish by usurping and Jon refused. I want grrm to reward him by making possible his greatest desire (Winterfell, Stark name) and what better way to do it other than his foil's way to achieving it (Sansa).

What an interesting way of thinking about it! Jon and Theon are very interesting to compare and contrast, the two who aren't quite outsiders but aren't Starks. When Theon returns to Pyke, he leans into being Ironborn, and is clearly desperate to rejoin the people he left when he was child, even though they don't really want him anymore. Theon does think about Ned a lot, but's more in a resentful, upset way, as he does things he know Ned Stark would never respect. It's very much an inverse of the way Jon thinks of Ned, who he wants to make proud.

I had no choice, he wanted to scream at the corpse. The ironborn can't keep secrets, they had to die, and someone had to take the blame for it. He only wished he had killed him cleaner. Ned Stark had never needed more than a single blow to take a man's head. -Theon V, ACOK

And when Theon thinks of marrying Sansa, it's very much in the context of holding onto WF, which is basically how everyone who wants to marry/marry off Sansa thinks of her. It's not so much about her, but marrying Winterfell essentially.

A pity Ned Stark had taken his daughters south; elsewise Theon could have tightened his grip on Winterfell by marrying one of them. Theon going after WF, for all his "strategic" reasons, really is about wanting what he could never have, hence why he digs in his heels in refusing to leave, and titles himself the "prince of Winterfell."

And Jon buries his desire for WF so deep down, he doesn't even acknowledge it in memory until ASOS when Stannis offers it to him

That morning he called it first. "I'm Lord of Winterfell!" he cried, as he had a hundred times before. Only this time, this time, Robb had answered, "You can't be Lord of Winterfell, you're bastard-born. My lady mother says you can't ever be the Lord of Winterfell."

Jon is also the only one whose really going to bat for Sansa's claim to WF, and keeps refusing WF even though he wants it so badly. Unlike Theon, he refuses WF since it doesn't belong to him, and because of what would be asked of him to keep it, burning the godswood. And he doesn't know it, but he doesn't even really have a claim as Ned's son. And that's going to hurt when it gets revealed.

I think that Jon will retake WF, and it is going to very much in reverse of what Theon did and would have done. He's not going to use Sansa, like everyone who wants her for her claim, he's going to be alongside her, and that's why he's going to succeed, unlike everyone else who's tried it. Jon and Sansa are both blood of WInterfell, and it's going to be a homecoming for them, unlike Theon who had to see all the people who he grew up with him look at him with betrayal for what he did.

Theon and Jon are always interesting to compare and contrast, and I think a lot of it comes out through their relationship with Robb. Robb trusted them both, but only Jon upheld and will continue to uphold that trust. (I also have some thoughts about Theon's ADWD chapters and his place in WF, but that's another post)

Okay so so sooo !!! My dear Alfie fans please listen to the sum up of my con cause it's full of things about Alfie too (Iwan seems to really like him x) ).

So I did everything like I did with Alfie last year : autographs a 30 minutes meeting and photos besides the panel, and I will tell you everything !

First of all, my autograph with Iwan. I had his album that he dedicated to Kraken Princess (yes thats me) and he was like "oh ok kraken princess this is great" while laughing, and then he wrote an autograph for my little sister Aline, trying to say "Aline" in a perfect french (and he is quite good really !!) I gave him a bunch of drawings and he really liked the chibi Ramsay putting his foot on chibi Reek (said it was cute and awesome and he laughed) (apparently he was still looking at my drawings when my friend did her autograph x3). I had an autograph with Gemma too !!! (Well it was mostly for a friend that does Yara cosplays so I havent a proper autograph but we did chat quite a long time for an autograph x) ) *-* she was so cute!! She was really happy and moved by my drawing of Theon and Yara and the long quote with " don't die so far from the sea", because it was her audition scene !

Then I did an awesome meeting with Iwan, I was just in front of him and we were ~9/10 with him. (Everyone was saying omg he is so small and I was like : YES HE IS GOD ARE YOU A FAN OR NOT X)) ) I will just report the Q&A here !

Q: How did you deal with your horrible character and how did you react with the other actors (Alfie and Sophie) before your scenes together ?

He said that he needed to do the difference btw Ramsay and him, to exteriorise it, not to think about what he had done, as a fictional character. He said with Alfie it was easier because they were the same age and they weren't not embarrassed to do intimate physical things, but it was harder with Sans (Sophie) because she was young (even if she wasn't the one embarrassed x) ). After those scenes, they needed to Forget about it and go at the restaurant and drink beers, a lot of beers (cause if you know Iwan you know he loves beers !)

Me: my favorite character of yours is Ash in vicious....

Iwan : Hiii *acting like Ash*

Me : *dying on the inside* hi xD so how was it to act with Ian Mckellen, cause I know I would be intimidated !!

Iwan said that yes it was intimidated, knowing how big all of the actors were, and that he needed to find his own respect (like Ash), but eventually he did. He was really impressed by how hard-working Mckellen and Jacobi were knowing that Vicious was only a little funny things and that they did so many things already.

Q: who would you be if you could be any other character in GOT ?

Iwan answered Dany (because Khal Drogo........and the long blond hair.) XD but he was so serious about acting Ramsay that he doesn't want to do anything else in GOT. He would have love a duo Cersei/Ramsay.

Me: Speaking about wigs, how was it to play Mick Mars ?

Iwan loved it because they had 3 weeks to learn the songs and musics, and it was a really funny and hard working atmosphere, and come on he was wearing a wig and high heels ! (And god yes he looks amazing with high heels !!)

Q: if you could play with any actor of the cast in anything else, who would it be and for which kind of film/serie ?

Iwan answered: Alfie ! In a comedy. Something like *laughs* a comedic detective duo where I am the shy one and Alfie is the stronger one (he was saying it while acting like the characters he was describing - which was CUTE )

Q: any funny memories from the GOT ?

Iwan said the wedding with Sansa actually because it was 3 am and they were exhausted. First of all all of it was beautiful despite the horrible things taking place and they were nervous laughs, but mostly because Michael (Roose) and him died of laugher everytime Sophie and Alfie arrived, because Sophie looked amazing and beautiful in her dress and Alfie needed to walk "like thiiis" (he said, doing the same walk as Reek) and we were all so tired we couldn't stop laughing.

Q: if you could be any character who would it be ?

Iwan said : Batman or Wolverine cause I always have loved Wolverine.

Someone : you could totally do Gollum.

Iwan did some offended face so I said :

"Oh no with the ears he should have done a hobbit"

He laughed at the mention of his ears and just said : " I know I missed the casting ". He was blushing aww 💕

Someone asked him : if you had to choose btw acting in film/shows/theater/or music ?

Iwan said that it was very hard in french "c'est très difficile" while stretching (and we saw his belly x)) ) (and that was kinda sexy) but that he would pick music if he didn't need to feed his family.

His favorite scene is the meeting with Jon, because Ramsay and Jon are the same and at the same time the complete opposite and that it was very important for his character. (And he wanted to meet Kit too !)

His favorite song is Paranoid (GOOD TASTE GOD) and his own favorite (even if he did a face like "uhuh I don't like my songs!") Is probably Courthouse ❤

He also said that he doesn't prefer playing nice or bad characters cause they are no such a thing as good or bad characters, the character is a person and as an actor his role is to understand this person. So what he likes is to play a lot of different and interesting characters.

I also told him a bit about my story and he was so sweet about it, asking how I was rn. :3

(JACK WAS SO FREAKING CUTE TOO OMG. We were next to him with my friend wanting to enter the same room so he said "Bonjour" in french and we answered bonjour too, so he laughed a little, and he looked so shy anwww. He also said that if he was to play any other GOT character it would be Theon because he is really interesting and constantly evolving ! But Alfie already plays him so well that he would not dare x33 I said I needed to marry Jack Gleeson rn xD Joffrey is only a cute fella really x3 )

Then I did my first photos.

And then it was the panels. (Pilou and Gemma were so cute and funny xD)

At the panel Iwan explained that there was a scene where Roose and Ramsay are talking about their plans versus Stannis, and then they begin to laugh crescendo together (and he did the laugh for us it was amazing xD) He also sang with Jack Happy Birthday to the translator !! It was awww (at the beginning he did it the Ramsay way and then it was so beautiful oww **)

My sum up would be : the cast was super cute, Iwan Rheon is a cute pie, he is so sweet and shy and Kind, He is so sexy omg, but I miss Alfie so bad ❤ there ;)

Will Dany love Jon more than the throne? She loves him and he loves her. Many ants think she will love the throne most. Thats how hey get their evil Dany theories to work. However, most people would be willing to give up on an ambition if the price was grievous harm to a loved one. Everyone hates Stannis for doing the reverse. Which way will Dany go? She wants the throne but she doesn't really 'love' the throne does she?

Dany will absolutely love Jon more than the throne because Dany doesn’t “love” the throne at all. I would argue that Dany is only seeking the throne out of a sense of duty and responsibility both to her birthright/family name and the common people. She has been raised on the belief that what Robert’s Rebellion did to her family is a great injustice, one that she must right in order to redeem her family name. Even once she learns that her father was an evil man and that his death was perhaps justified, she still believes (and I would agree) that the fates of the rest of her family were an injustice/murder. She similarly believes that the common people are suffering and oppressed under the current system (which they are) and seeks to liberate them by “breaking the wheel.” So her quest for the throne has nothing to do with personal desires or gratification and everything to do with what she believes is right. 

We can see this both in her character and choices–both book and show versions–and in the things Dany thinks about in the books. Across the books, the word “throne” is mentioned in her POV chapters a total of 46 times. This includes Viserys’s dialogue about this subject, of course, as well as any time anyone else has mentioned this to her. But “common people,” “my people,” and “your people” (when others talk to her about her people) are mentioned 72 times. Most tellingly, “home” is mentioned 68 times, and “love” a whopping 128 times. Dany is not after the throne out of some misguided plan for power, wealth, or glory. She never thinks about any of these things. She’s more interested in helping others and possessing the power to do that consistently. 

Even Tyrion knew that Dany cared more about family than power. He said as much to F!Aegon:

“I told you, I know our little queen. Let her hear that her brother Rhaegar’s murdered son is still alive, that this brave boy has raised the dragon standard of her forebears in Westeros once more, that he is fighting a desperate war to avenge his father and reclaim the Iron Throne for House Targaryen, hard-pressed on every side … and she will fly to your side fast as wind and water can carry her. You are the last of her line, and this Mother of Dragons, this breaker of Chains, is above all a rescuer. The girl who drowned the slaver cities in blood rather than leave strangers to their chains can scarcely abandon her own brother’s son in his hour of peril. And when she reaches Westeros and meets you for the first time, you will meet as equals, man and woman, not queen and supplicant. How can she help but love you then, I ask you?” –Tyrion VI ADWD

There’s no F!Aegon in the show, but Jon is actually Rhaegar’s son, a man fighting a desperate war who Dany has met in Westeros, eventually (in my opinion) come to respect as an equal, and loved as a man, just as Tyrion predicted. I don’t think Dany will care more about her claim than about Jon himself.

Even in the show, Dany has twice now (both in the HOTU vision and when she lands at Dragonstone) walked right by the throne instead of touching it, called instead to a higher purpose. I think this literal action is also symbolic of her evolving priorities. 

Further, we can see that she desires a family and love far more than she does a throne. Even Daario, whom she admits to herself doesn’t really love her, but more the idea of her as queen, is enough to make her question her entire journey.

“I would give up my crown if he asked it of me, Dany thought … but he had not asked it, and never would. Daario might whisper words of love when the two of them were as one, but she knew it was the dragon queen he loved.“ –Daenerys VII ADWD 

If she would have given up her throne for Daario, can you imagine how much more willing she would be for Jon?

What she wants more than anything is the safety and freedom of her people, but as far as her presonal goals are concerned? What she wants most is a family and someone who genuinely loves her. Remember, she has literally never had this with anyone. Her mother died birthing her, leaving Viserys as her only family, and we all know the reality of that relationship. Dany has been, for all intents and purpose, alone for her entire life. For Jon to love her, really love her, and want a family and a simple life with her, would be much more important to her than any throne. Her own “dream” is for something like that:

“In her dream they were man and wife, simple folk who lived a simple life in a tall stone house with a red door. In her dream he had been kissing her all over–her mouth, her neck, her breasts.” –Daenerys II ADWD

It’s worth noting that Jon has similar dreams:

“When the dreams took him, he found himself back home once more, splashing in the hot pools beneath a huge white weirdwood that had his father’s face. Ygritte was with him, laughing at him, shedding her skins until she was naked as her name day, trying to kiss him.” –Jon VI ASOS

They both dream of a simple life where they are loved and happy, home at last.

So no. Dany won’t love the throne more than Jon. And if they both live until the end, I really do believe that their happiest endgame wouldn’t be ruling at all. Like I’ve said before, I’m ok with and would be happy with an endgame of Jon and Dany as king and queen of the 7K, but I think it’s equally likely that after saving the world and instituting a new system of government they might flee to find a semblance of the life they’ve always dreamed of, together :)

i'm not even getting into everything dany's done and survived lol. but okay samsa is the only genius in westeros, we know she is because tyrion says so i guess? not to mention show sansa's political "mentors" are possible the WORST examples of rulers we have - cersei and littlefinger. they didn't give 2 shits about ruling or the smallfolk or leadership, just about their own power. and i'd say that's important given how much time grrm spends showing us how the smallfolk suffer because of the games played by kings and queens.

this... actually requires a bit of going into it but like not counting that show sansa was a travesty and I'm choosing to not acknowledge it, and show lf was... I mean I'm not even going into how much it was a disservice to the og char whom I detest but honestly book!lf wouldn't marry sansa to anyone he didn't do research about lmfao but like not going into... those... plot holes.....

also there's the part where like people are so caught up in the whole WHO HAS IT WORSE BETWEEN SANSA AND ARYA WHO IS THE BEST feud that... they don't notice that they have specular ways of dealing with trauma like arya is dealing with having to lose her identity/risking not knowing who she is anymore and she has to deal with increasing violence/ptsd-related trauma bc she's throw in the middle of everything bad she could end up in like she was almost in the red wedding I was 90% sure she also died until I saw she had a chapter after, while sansa has managed to dodge courtly poisons by being herself and by not letting it change who she is which tyrion noticed which everyone noticed which is why guess what tyrion is willing to stand up to his father and tell him no when it comes to actually having sex with her when he couldn't for the marriage and she's the only person that managed to get past sandor's trauma issues enough that he tried to actually help her for what he could, like... arya has de-personalization to overcome, sansa is holding to her guns by staying herself and she has to learn what good she can from lf before ditching him and keeping on staying herself like it's fucking specular it's not supposed to be a game of who has it worse

(wish ppl would get it also with jaime and tyrion and their coping with trauma but nvm)

the fact that ppl downplay that jon isn't politically an idiot at all irks me forever but like... bruh the dude handled being lord commander, an entire siege when he was like seventeen and was hobbling around on crutches, managed to infiltrate the wildlings without anyone finding out (and it traumatized the shit out of him but nvm) and if only he was good at PR he wouldn't have gotten juliuscaesared, like... okay X°DDD

but like... the point is that sansa was shown to gaf about others/the smallfolk/people lower than her in the food chain which dnd/half of this fandom didn't get which is why she'll be an excellent regent for bran and I'm dying on that hill but again this entire thing where you have to pit your fave against everyone else to show how much more badass/smarter they are is imvho a useless exercise because then I'll cut the gordian knot and say that if gilly managed to survive at least seventeen years with her father in that context knowing that her mother was also her sister and that she'd get the same treatment and if she had male children they'd get put out in the open and killed and then was forced to swap her own baby for another without knowing if that baby was going to die or not and she still had it in herself to not turn into a complete asshole she wins for toughest survivor in westeros at least out of the girls unless we want jeynep to give her a run for her money because like... going from lf to ramsay and not as a protegé and considering she was afraid ramsay was going to sic dogs on her when they saved her I think we can maybe ger some perspective here X°DDDD

How annoying is Missandei? First at all, DO NOT INTERRUPT MY BABIES while they're having a conversation I've been waiting for years, second at all, Sansa didn't tell Tyrion Daenerys was a b*tch or a terrible ruler, she simlpy said that while he is loyal to her she is loyal to the North, who wants to be indipendent. Not to mention,on a personal note, I don't like the idea of overlapping gratitude and submission, I really hope the show doesn't turn oround on the whole indipendence thing.

now, I say this as someone who lowkey ships tyrion and sansa, has not much interest in dany’s storyline overall and doesn’t care for dany either way so like I’m not invested but....... from missandei’s pov she had all the right to say that and worse? I mean sorry guys but:

as much as one can find dany’s methods/standards questionable or not, to missandei she’s the person that a) freed her from slavery, b) brought her from a position where she doesn’t refer to herself in first person to main advisor to *someone who goes around with dragons* c) gave her an immensely better life, d) isn’t just her employer but her friend, e) gave her an immensely better life in which she found love too because going with the show verse she did;

so like, OBVIOUSLY missandei loves dany, wow, I can’t imagine why, it’s not gratitude and submission, it’s that for her and for people dany *freed* it’s a question of completely overturning the status quo and as much as I think that dany’s failure to see that you can’t just do it snapping your fingers without taking the bigger picture into account is her largest problem, to *them* it doesn’t matter;

now, as far as missandei’s concerned her side has gone north abandoning their main target, going with her entire army and entourage to help the northerners with the undead, knowing they might die and most likely will, and all they got back was people staring at them like they distrusted them, sansa openly going like ‘well how are we feeding them’ when they’re there to help and they need them, sansa being downright rude to dany (because she was and as much as I love sansa as a character that was downright bad writing and I’m standing by it) and zero recognition for their efforts;

now she is locked in a crypt doing zilch while her best friend and the man she loves with whom she has plans for the future are out there killing zombies and upholding their deal with jon.......... and sansa goes about northern independence with tyrion and the likes putting his loyalty to dany (person jon has kneeled to let’s just remember that, and as much as ppl dislike it it was his decision only to take) as it’s a bad thing when missandei’s loyalty to dany is literally what turned her life around from utter shit and she has to shut up?

like sorry anon but she was very much within her rights to say it, from her pov she was absolutely right to point out that the northerners bar jon and a few others have been behaving like ungrateful arses to them because that’s what happened in 8x01 dot and she’s not annoying for that. like, for her pov she was right and honestly I hope sansa learned something from it because the entire point is that the stakes are higher than individual wants.

now: I also think that dany’s fixation on not having the independent north is iffy and honestly i just want everyone to get along, BUT: guys. not to be that person, but: robb didn’t even come up with that idea. everyone else did. if it was for him they’d have ceded to stannis the moment he knew ned was dead. it was his war council who decided the north had to be independent, not him, and this idea that the north has to be independent at all costs but just the north imvho is just.... very misleading? like, either they split into the seven kingdoms again and we have reinassance-like reigns that are better than westeros’s feudalism or okay we can have the independent north but is not a thing that was implied since the beginning, it was not a thing robb particularly wanted, it wasn’t a thing ned wanted and the fact that robb eventually died for it doesn’t mean that now they have to die on that hill, too, and tbh I also can’t with this idea that by kneeling jon disrespected his entire family’s legacy because he did absolutely no such thing and he did exactly the same thing the last kitn before robb did for reasons that to him were perfectly legit. and the fact that people don’t seem to be able to band together in the face of death because they’re squibbling about politics at this point says a lot about how this show’s writing could be improved, and that’s my two cents.

but like. missandei from her pov was absolutely in the right and ngl someone had to say it imvho, so. sorry, but I really can’t agree with that, and I say it as someone who cares a lot more about the starks than dany, that cares way more about jon than dany and who isn’t much of a fan of the targ restoration theory X°DDD

I'm unsure how lysa/Lyanna tbh. Cersei........like if this could happen before the war, before all the shit with Robert but then you'd need to not have Cersei hero worship Rhaegar so much...........idk how it would work timeline wise. Probably in the same timeline where cat got married off to jaime before aerys could steal him away (idk if I ever reblogged the meta about how that relationship would go but let me tell u......it was good meta). Like. I mean they both chafe against the standards set on women, they both sorta romanticized Rhaegar as like the key to their happiness, and whereas Lyanna at least got to learn how to fight Cersei wasn't allowed even that so it's. .....an interesting dynamic actually. LYANNA AND LOLLYS tho, I like that, with Lyanna being protective over lollys, getting to be like the hero she always wanted to be with lollys and lollys gets someone who is kind to her and protective of her. It's cute, I enjoy that.

I.........j have read so much what if meta on how different Roberts rebellion would have gone if x had married y, and I feel like I saw something with stannis marrying lyanna. Honestly like........I mean you'd still run into issues I would think with Lyanna feeling a bit trapped but considering stannis is, while not exactly affectionate, at least loyal, that would appeal to her I would think? And he's v good with shireen despite being, ya kno, Stannis, and him being a good father might so appeal.

pls consider lyanna/catelyn tho? cat is only a year or two older than her and I would legit die for some cute lyanna femslash that didn't involve her paired with a woman 10-15 yrs older than her :))
