i was going to ask u if the UK is really this puritanical bc like. i was raised by some right-wingers who taught me that if i even danced with someone i was not married to, i would spend eternity burning in hell, and i still couldn't rlly bring myself to care abt a guy in his mid-20s making sex jokes enough to be offended abt it. but i mean u are not british so that doesn't matter now.

I saw that a song from my country was on the daily viral songs on spotify and its been there for days so today i finally checked it out, really liked it and its been in my head since.. later i went on tiktok (no related reason) and one of the first videos used that song so i was like, oh now it makes sense, thats why its trending!

Then i went to the sound to check the videos using the song, found why its gone viral outside my country and now i kinda want to erase it all from my brain

Didnt wanna put this in the main part bc its heavy

So, a month ago a kid came to school and shot a guard, his classmates and teacher and some of them died. The kid had it all planned out and thought he wouldnt be punished by law as hes 13(14?) and at that age he cant be held accountable, apparently. Hes locked up in an institution tho, idk where thats gonna lead but i hope he end up getting judged as an adult bc of the way he planned it, bc of all the things they found during bacground check and bc, if the sources are right, hes hyperintelligent. Even if that last bit is wrong, this kid knew exactly what he was doing, and should be judged for that imo

That inspired another dude to go on a killing spree of his own and he hopped town to town and shot whoever pissed him off

All of this hurt us deeply, as nothing like this had ever happened here before, and ppl have been peacefully protesting against.. well, a bunch of stuff rly, but i dont wanna make this too long. The protests are massive though (and out gvmnt is switching between making fun of them, calling them 'angry mobs' and saying that the nr of people is wildly overestimated)

Anyways, back to the song

Its apparently been used on a lot of tiktoks (and maybe other places) in relation to the first crime and quite a few ppl from my country associate it w the killings and dont like the song being used by foreigners

So now im bummed out by the song itself (its a sad song + was probably popular w the kids who died so thats why it was used), by the memories of seeing news of both killings, by the knowledge that one of my cousins' friends was killed, the protests and the politicians reactions to all of it

Also. While the initial protest wasnt as large, the gvmnt claimed it had 'what, a thousandish people?' but it was far more than that. Its estimated that the latest protest had 50-60k people attending. The gvmnt is still trying to convince us they werent as large and that the anti gvmnt media is lying.

you know hes either joking or teasing—or both, with some truth, because hes never totally serious with it, but never not serious (whatever that means, but it makes sense in terms of yeonjun)

but you just cant help but tell yourself that all those times hes done the same with you were all fake, sweet lies

and you dont exactly have a deep connection with him, nor do you exactly know too much about him, so its all a weird conflict of emotions

youre his friend right?? just not close enough to text him at 4am, or to have vulnerable, soft moments together... it feels so distant, so out of reach

hes protective in the sense that hed ward off any creeps on trains with his staggering height (albeit maybe unintentionally), and then grab your waist so you dont stumble

attentive in the way that he buys you coffee or any of your favorite drinks before your morning class, and will memorize your order. it means a lot bc he has to wake up extra early, the coffee lines are always way too long in the mornings ☕️

he lets you take his notes and cram the day before any big test or exam, offering to quiz you afterwards if youre up for it too

for someone whos self-labeled himself as lazy, choi soobin sure is good at putting in effort for you :')

there to listen to any woes or complaints about any professors you have, and it feels like an actual friendship—if you ignore your festering feelings

it happens one day, you cant exactly pinpoint when, but it happens. youre all of a sudden conscious of yourself giggling at your phone when you realize how deep in you are

at first, you had just seen him as your tall, cute friend that youd be mistaken as a couple with.. but suddenly all those teasing comments from mutual friends has you impossibly flustered

it doesnt help that hes so, so sososo affectionate. in a casual way though, oh yeah. just grabs your hand or hits your shoulder when he laughs too hard, and absolutely does he back hug you

you can feel his chest on your back and it drives you insane, but for the sake of keeping it cool you shove that all down

hes a tall dude, so whenever he hugs he either drapes himself over you or hugs you in a way that makes you feel so safe and secured it should be illegal

and his flirting... should you even call it flirting?? maybe youre reading into it too much

^ like the way hed wipe off any excess foam on your lips, or when he offers you food and goes "say ah~" before feeding it to you

bc friends do that. for sure, its totally fine and cool, but then he laughs so hard he has to rest his hand on your thigh. rest, as in it stays there for longer than your heart can handle

ultimately, you would feel like itd be best to just wallow in your feelings and think abt how cutely shaped his lips are T_T

if you do decide to risk it all and confess, oh boy, youll be the one feeling more guilty by the end of the day

its sort of cute, how much hes fretting. tell him that you just wanted to get it off your chest, but still hope to remain as friends and things will go back to normal

well, as normal as it could be. you both have to ignore how he hesitates and then retracts his hand when hes laughing too hard and has to lean on you

also the fact that his hugs arent as warm, hes so reluctant to even touch you now, and instead of wiping off any foam himself, he hands you a napkin

not bc hes necessarily popular, hes just everywhere. beomgyu is somehow just someone everyone knows, and often you would find him annoying a rando teacher

you sort of grew up with him though

going to the same elementary, middle school, high school etc. he was always just the kid in the class over or the guy you slept next to during kindergarten nap time 💤

hes known for being a bit bratty and excitable, but tbh youve probably only had one or two conversations with him?? ^^;;

hes amusing, and when hes around you love watching his antics

the way youd fall would be at a party

not a crazy, wild, totally off the hook!!! party, but a small sort of gathering your class put together to commemorate the end of the semester

everyone was chatting and sipping something (hell if you knew), and he was playing his guitar like some sort of mystic indie boy about to change your life

you went up to him (mightve been smthng in that drink, wow) and ask how he even got the thing there, and he replied with something both cute and humorous enough to make you giggle

he was funny, not that you had expected him not to be, but you hadnt thought he would answer so quick and wittily when he hadnt interacted with you much either

his skills on the guitar werent a joke though. the way he played was like he was humming, making you hear invisible lyrics that werent there, it was just impossibly soft but loud. sickly poetic, right?

and you noticed that whenever he would mess up a chord, he would scrunch his nose up a bit—which you found cuter than you shouldve

plus over the whole school year he had grown his black hair out, letting it curl to frame his face and the back touch his neck

it was... brutal to say the least how good it looked on him. and brutal for you how you didnt realize how good he looked before ..

you would be knocked out of your observations (read: admirations) by him asking you for a song recommendation, and youd just have to give one from the top of your head

"oh! i love that song!"

he said it with such a big smile that it had you beaming with pride in your music tastes

was this really the boy youve seen around all your life?? you were that blind? 😵‍💫

the way hes strumming, smiling softly under the dimmed, tinted lights has you unconsciously blurring your surroundings, only focusing on him

afterwards, you would ask for his number with the lame excuse of "since we have such similar taste in music!!"

from then on whenever you found a song that you thought sounded like him, errr... reminded you of the songs he liked.. youd send it to him

and whenever youd run into him on school grounds, your only talking point would be "oh!! heres the cd you wanted to borrow haha"

its always a quick thanks! before hes gone, and you cant help but want to go to more parties in hopes hed be there again

youre not sure youll ever be able to get over him bc now whenever you listen to any song you think "oh.. would beomgyu like this??"

the thing is, he would also send you songs back 😓 which makes the whole thing even worse

"heyy!! this melody reminded me of you!! its pretty sweet lol :]]"

and you almost faint at the message, was there supposed to be a double meaning??

if it goes on for long enough i feel like beomgyu would make a whole playlist for you, and it just about sends your body into overdrive..

theres just something so special about a whole playlist dedicated to you, he listened to these songs specifically and thought of you!!

occasionally, or if you ask for them, beom sends you videos of him playing his guitar

sometimes its soft indie, sometimes its a riff on the electric guitar you cant quite decipher, but each time it makes you press the replay button

if youre lucky, his playing could be accompanied by gentle humming or murmured lyrics

..its genuinely so quiet you cant hear sometimes, but that doesnt matter much when each time he sends a video, youve already made sure to turn your volume up impossibly high 🔊

whenever youd see him on campus youd flash him a smile and usher him over to listen to what you had playing, but it always felt like he left too early ://

these conversations felt so brief. you were close but yet.. so far???

honestly though, all of these messages and texts late into the night are mostly about songs? you wish you knew about his other interests

with the way things were looking, there was no way he would realize your feelings, and you were running out of these songs quicker than you wouldve liked

you hovered over your text before quickly deleting it

i struggled a bit too much on this one..

100% class president or representative

youve seen him around and hes maybe asked for you to hand in a sheet like once or twice, but otherwise you dont really know him

you would admire him heavily though, for both his grades and his looks. he seemed so far above all the rest at times, almost otherworldly with how compassionate and smart he was

it all starts when either you ask him to tutor you (nervously, fidgeting lol) or the teacher suggests it

he says yes (ofc, so nice), and the first session ends without any conversation outside of learning, and you cant help but feel stiff around him

its up until the third time you met after class that taehyun suggested you take a break, right after you struggled with his explanation

youre a bit embarrassed that he thought you needed a break, but.. what exactly does a break entail??

he asked you for your drink of choice and left to the vending machines, leaving you to sit there a bit confused until he returned shortly after with 2 cans

you thanked him and told him that you could pay him back, and he refused your insisting until you decided to cave in and open your beverage, seeping in slight awkwardness

but then he opened his own soda and it just EXPLODED like a fountain ⁉️ the carbonated juice was everywhere, and you had to back up a bit to not get it on your pants

he was panicking, quickly trying to cover the spray with his hand, then his jacket, his eyes impossibly wide n mouth open,, and you just about burst out in laughter

soon enough he would be laughing also, his hand still over the top, and the both of you making eye contact as the fizz stops entirely and the giggles die out

you felt a bit guilty, laughing at him.. 😓 but hes always so calm and collected, so seeing him with such an expression made him seem so endearing

you would apologize and hed just wave you off with a chuckle (which made that organ in your chest thump louder than it shouldve), but you have to wonder.. when was his soda even shaken up??

you had a sneaking suspicion he did it on purpose, but for what?? to make you laugh? you didnt wanna get too ahead of yourself, but you wouldnt put it past him

the type of person to sacrifice his own dignity to get someone to loosen up, that was the kang taehyun you observed ♥️

the next few sessions incorporated small breaks in between, which you noticed usually happened when you got stuck and overly frustrated.

by the end of these breaks though, youd always be laughing or smiling to yourself, mind cleared from any fog

he made you less stiff in various ways, doodling crude drawings, telling you embarrassing stories, all of the works!! it felt nice, and you felt almost special to be seeing him like this...

during the fifth session, he would talk to you about his magic tricks!!! you had expected to be doing origami or drinking pure sugar by the machines again, but he suddenly pulled out a whole deck o cards

the way he spoke about it and demonstrated them made your pulse quicken.. he just looked so passionate, so animated and eager

if you stared at him long enough hed offer to teach you some magic, and his eyes would positively light up if you agree

mess up a few times and he would go, "here, let me," and envelop his hands over yours, properly moving them in the correct manner

"can you try it on your own?"

you dont have the heart to say you cant, because as soon as he had touched your skin, your mind blanked entirely 😵‍💫

taehyun also isnt the type to be offset by eye contact either, so when you catch his gaze he holds it and even has the nerve to ask, "what? are you having trouble with something?"

and sometimes he gets too close when explaining stuff and it has you sweating buckets, confused on whether it was his long eyelashes or nose bridge that had you distracted

tbh im not sure you would even be able to confess properly before being rejected indirectly, bc such a person as kang taehyun has a lot of people pining after him

—and hes surely bound to notice one of them, right?

it would be a day free from tutoring when you decide to visit the library to return a couple of books

its almost immediate when you spot taehyuns hair, having gazed at it so many times. you didnt think much of it though, bc taehyun is top of your class, so of course hes in the library!!!

you would turn the corner to say a quick greeting, but stop in your tracks at the sight of him next to another girl—one you didnt recognize from his group of friends

it wasnt a tutoring or study session, no way, there were no textbooks in sight. plus, there were drinks by their side, her beverage and his usual soda, and theyre laughing, flirting—blushing.

a clearer look at her face tells you that you do in fact know her, and shes the vice president with high grades and a pretty face, the one thats practically his only equal.

the greeting you had prepared was swallowed down by your throat

hes so close to her now, and you want to cover your ears, but you hear it anyway—

"do you want to learn a magic trick ive been working on?"

and you dont think youve ever left a building faster than you left that library behind, urging down your tears in the process

its a seating change that gets the both of you closer, bc who would actually approach first??

you didnt think much of it when your teacher made you all pull numbers for seats, but then he plopped his backback down on the chair next to you

and all so suddenly does your heart skip, hop scotch, and reverse all at once

you tell yourself to act casual, cool, level headed and introduce yourself

"hello, my name is [name] [l. name]. i hope we can get along."

you applaud yourself, mentally giving your back a dad-worthy clap in pride—but oh fuck, you said all of that without making eye contact

thankfully, huenings the type of boy to just laugh (albeit a bit awkwardly) and introduce himself back, and he does just that

first stage: cleared!! but.. whats the second stage?? youre not sure....

the boys a great seat mate though, not raucous or painfully oblivious to his surroundings like the other boys in your class

hes a bit clumsy, but its somehow a part of his charm ♥️

he also drops his pencil and desk supplies frequently, most of the time to simply twirling his pencil around or knocking things off with his arm nd elbow

once, you mustered enough courage to be the helpful deskmate! and pick it up for him, but his hand was faster than yours

—which, ended with your palm on top of his, and with an embarrassing squeak you had to pull it off hastily

he gave you a glance and a smile that sent your face into a hot blaze, uttering a small "thank you," even though you technically didnt even do anything except squeak (oh god)

if you ever lose your textbook or forget it for a day, he is always willing to share (that whole cutesy desks together thing, looking over at each other to see if theyre done reading) 📖

—actually, hes willing to just give up his whole textbook entirely

youve compared him to an angel before, because theyre both known for their innocuous demeanor and infinitely generous personalities, and its fairly true

your teacher was very strict with forgetfulness, constantly reminding your classmates that it isnt a trait that should be common among young adults such as yourself, so sharing textbooks was still frowned upon in your classroom

instead, students would be basically publicly humiliated before being sent out of the classroom to grab an extra textbook from the library 😓.. jerk

when you had rummaged through your bag and found nothing, you had already resigned yourself to being scolded like a 5 yr old like many others were before you

but all of a sudden, a coy hand slides that hardcover book you oh so dreaded seeing (but needed) over to your desk

you glanced at him like he just offered to sacrifice himself into a volcano for your sake, and he just simply smiled at you and sent you a cute wink like (^_-)☆

before you can even think of giving it back to him, your teachers voice cut off any coherent thoughts you couldve formed

"huening kai, correct? wheres your textbook, mr huening?"

"ah," he smiled sheepishly, standing up from his desk. "i forgot it today, sir."

the angry old man rant from your teacher lasted 5 mins minimum before huening was sent for his walk of shame to the library

oh god, huening kai is a boy. thats not good, not good at all, because now hes not just an angel.. hes a boy with a strangely heart thumping mischievous streak to him

also if youre noticeably down, hes all more than willing to doodle in the corner of your notebook, accompanied by words of encouragement and later a juice box on your desk :')

return the doodles and it might develop into games of tic tac toe, and then childish hand games—but huening kai is cheater

how youre able to cheat in simple juvenile games like that, youre not entirely sure, but he managed to do it anyway and giggles innocently when you catch him

youd always let him off and the cheater goes and does it again, but it doesnt matter too much as youre too caught up in his laughter to care

being next to him also warrants much more opportunities to stare at his face, or more so just glance at it

hes got a sixth sense or smthng, always being able to catch your eye and make you smile awkwardly before turning back to your desk ^^;

but even with all these small moments, it doesnt feel real—maybe like youre still in a pipe dream, hoping for him to like you, when all of your friends tell you that he clearly does

so when you go to enter your classroom in the morning, hoping to maybe get an answer that day, you had to stop short

not because of anxiety or nervousness, no, because you could hear his voice casually deny any crush on you to your classmates

"[name]? oh no, the both of us are just friends. shes cool and all though, you should talk to her sometime too!"

his tone was kind, full of friendly cheerfulness that made you somehow sick. never once did you think hearing him with a smile would make you feel this way.

it couldnt have been a misunderstanding, because why would he say it so normally if it werent true, right?

you entered the classroom, saying your usual greeting to him (he smiled and said good morning), and you almost immediately had to leave to the clinic—because you couldnt take the normalcy

your teacher sent you off with a quick message to not stray and mess around in the hallways, and you stood up to leave

but before you can make it a foot away from your desk, huenings hand caught onto your wrist

"are you feeling ok?" he whispered, concern clearly laced in his eyes. your head ached more, and your shoulders felt heavier than ever

"im fine," you said back, pulling his hand off your skin. it burned. "ill be back soon."

you fully planned to ditch the class, spending the period rotting under the clinic bed sheets until you no longer felt nauseous

ok i finished beyond light and wanna put some thoughts here about it while its on the mind. tldr destiny is simultaneously the stupidest game in the world and has moments that are really, really good

eramis is a hugely compelling character with a solid motivation, interesting backstory, and relates to the long running lore weve had about eliksni in absolutely FASCINATING ways. shes instantly one of my fave characters im incredibly compelled by her. they also say that she cant control the darkness because shes ‘too angry’ (?? what.)

given what we know about the darkness bc of 1. votd and 2. ikoras shredded notes, eramis being probably manipulated by the darkness (which. obviously so is the yw in this expansion) and 2. losing control of it explicitly because she couldnt move on from what happened to riis, eramis’ corruption is MUCH more compelling and complex. but in game theyre just like. oh she cant control it because shes evil. destiny. man come on

using darkness is a super fun way to tie new gameplay mechanics to plot, and make a much more concrete parallel between what the light and darkness can do (both being simplified as sources of power is fun) but they truly had some star wars level bullshit about how you control it. oh you can use it safely if its for a noble cause (eramis’ cause was noble). oh you can use it safely if youre strong enough (what???) oh you can use it safely if youre like a good enough person. its all vauge and kinda stupid.

AGAIN, in light of new lore, the idea that light and darkness can in fact be balanced and thats not a bad thing is an idea that works and is compelling (its not the same bullshit as ppl who talk about like ‘grey jedi’ like it does actually make sense). they just give the stupidest answers possible about how that works

actually i am really glad the exo stranger is here. i love her and im glad theyre in some way tying things back to d1 but it did also it still doesnt make sense. tbf none of the plot of this game ever does but whatever. if the black garden ties into shadowkeep (idk how i just know it does) shouldnt. they have put her there?? or made the vex more important here??? baffling. i am not immune to no time to explain though :(

exo stranger eris and drifter funniest group in the WORLD. i know they just grabbed the three characters that were loosely associated w darkness and gave very little info on how they teamed up or like. Why but good god if it isnt hilarious

destiny once again suffers from being an fps :/ girl you made a whole expansion that gives more information on the eliksni, shows them sympathetically in a lot of ways, and truly starts to develop them (more than they already were, which imho was a fair amount) and theyre STILL solely used as canon fodder. wheres that post about making faceless enemies and trying to give them a face lol bc i think of it all the time in this game

yes we did ALSO help save eliksni and maybe i would have felt different about this if i had been playing when this season had come out and had intereacted in any meaningful way with the eliksni in helm/in their city district but also. you know

once again i am saying that the vex are simultaneously the biggest actual existential threat in destiny and also the only enemy group that can truly actually be treated as faceless with no consequences, bc as far as we know they dont have a sense of self in the way we understand, which EVERY OTHER ENEMY GROUP (hive included!!!!) does. but what can you do.

i really like how little you see of the pyramid. also once again destiny environment design absolutely rules. braytech facilities riis-reborn and vex constructions all look so architechturally distinct, unique, interesting, and do a good job of storytelling from a visual perspective. europa is also absolutely GORGEOUS

i am for REALLLLLL worried about ghost. between darkness possessing him, the sheer amount that yw using darkness seems to legitimately terrify him, and also how he acts in wq im Concerned. last weeks strike being arms dealer and seeing how differently he acts in that era as compared to now is legit heartbreaking. also the sheer number of times is started quoting thin line out loud to myself directly after his lines about how scared he was of yw using darkness is UNREAL

i do genuinely think that this game is doing a good job of tying the specific ways that darkness is portrayed and comes up with the themes and lore about what it represents (mostly based on the shredded notes my beloved) and making that argument for what darkness is compelling. esp excited to see how thats executed in shadowkeep bc i think thats such a strong start for its introduction. like i truly can see how its connected and thats very fun

whole expansion being split between development for eliksni and exos (w bonus development for a d1 character) is so up my alley its unreal. enjoyed it overall but also good god destiny is a video game sometimes isnt it

a list of my entirely way too niche headcanons ive actually implemented for everyones imagination:

name options ive used and refuse to retire: david elizabeth strider (sometimes i dont feel like being a douche to others and saying thats not his name), harley davidson strider, and david james strider for the sake of simplicity

im not gonna tell yall the like. oc exes ive given him bc thatll take eighteen years.

i dont rlly have an explanation on the ghost thing besides the fact he just can? ive occasionally pulled from family ghost stories and experiences bc i somehow got landed with family members who lived in a haunted house for a decade and enjoy scaring me with all the stories (including the time my cousin literally died on the kitchen floor from a bronchial spasm and one of the friends that was over asked my aunt later what was up with the old man she saw in the corner of the room that night - my cousin is fine btw shes just a huge bitch and a third grade teacher and i dont like her)

whether or not hes done drugs is based on absolutely nothing besides how im feeling in that moment. either hes the designated driver and sober friend forever or he got fired from his job after doing a line at work during graveyard with some random customers theres no inbetween (this absolutely happened @ waho. if dave works at waho hes a mess of a person and thats on the diner itself.)

ok look i hc dave w/schizophrenia besides when i was 14 i had a hyperfixation with learning about it and then at 16 was prescribed a medication and had side effects so wack my therapist genuinely thought 14 yr old me was onto something and its a weird way to cope with the idea that lady put in my head that i might “develop it in my twenties” which i turn 20 this year and i havent been able to stop obsessing and panicking over the prospect so PLEASE dont come in my inbox calling me ableist im not out here all harley quinn in suicide squad with the voices ok hes medicated, he goes to therapy, the hard fast delusion that lil cal was nearly sentient and informed bro of every single thing dave did no matter how asinine it was is no longer a debilitatingly affecting him ANYWAYS

i actually use the chicken/egg farming family pretty often just because its hilarious to me to give dave like. an actual mom and dad. hes literally an uncle to like three different kids he just never visits because they make fun of his skinny jeans and he hates one of his (incredibly bare-bones ocs all of them) brothers who threatened to bash his head in with a little league bat after dave broke his star wars lego set apart on accident (but not rlly) so their parents were like “why dont you stay with your brother in the big city for a lil while champ” and then they just never picked him back up? and thats on favoritism

the other one is that his name is actually david reed and hes the middle child of a family of three who literally live the standard golden retriever white middle class life only they went to disney land or something equally as dumb one year when dave was like 6 and he wandered off so bro literally just went “huh free game” because frankly he was an idiot who thought maybe i should take this kid home because its real dangerous in parking lots and then it was too late to NOT have it seem like a kidnapping and thats why daves never had a summer job, seen his birth certificate, or gone to school. but vaguely remembers what kindergarten was like and having a pet dog and calling someone mom as a kid.

im not making a bullet point about his sex life headcanons just use your imagination and acknowledge the fact bro essentially worked within the sex industry and i enjoy putting dave through trauma as a catharsis

i stopped doing this one usually but if he did go to school hes been in percussion since fifth grade and played the drums in his high schools jazz band as well as various edgy teenager garage bands he likes to pretend dont have a youtube presence and that hes absolutely never been shirtless in front of plenty of his classmates because he wore a hoodie to a show like an idiot. idk occasionally ill put him in an actual band he doesnt hate but keeps separate from his lil turntechGodhead internet persona (which i will ALSO touch upon in a sec) until they wind up getting looped into a tour with some bigger named band that has a show in *insert beta kid here*’s city and hes gotta come clean solely so he can visit his online friend. sorry derseasterous thats the one time weve ever run into each other and i made him have a crush on one of his bandmates i was in my anti-daverose phase where i made dave a hoe and also didnt want to admit i still loved the ship all these years later

i hate it so much but you know the whole vr loli trap voice shit that was popular a while ago? hes fucking baller at it for some reason. he did it as a joke while talking to bro and they both about shat their pants. if im feeling real ambitious, hes got a separate soundcloud solely dedicated to doing dumbass rap covers or making his own but in the voice under the pseudonym elizabeth “beth” davids that he will never admit is his. well, he will, but hes gonna be really fucking embarrassed about it. irony or not.

talking abt seperate soundclouds and stuff ive always had it where turntechGodhead was his like. essentially internet fucking persona facade shit he used because we all had that phase where we wanted memorable urls and stuff but also didnt want to totally ignore the nagging fear of people finding you in real life, until it turned into real life ppl finding you on the internet. so he also has basically an adjacent set of social media under the same name but its just a boring username i havent decided on so everyone he knows irl doesnt mix up with what hes made for himself as TG and the people he knows as TG dont know what highschool he goes to. (this occasionally comes with the territory of ppl on parp being pissed that daves “lying” or “hiding things” from his friends as if he was doing it out of spite instead of just keeping embarrassing tagged photos and videos from football games or when he ate shit at the skatepark from fucking with his “rap career”)

every once in a while i get on a kick where hes just german. like, i just replace houston texas with hamburg germany and have him apply to a university in whatever state is applicable for whoever im chatting with and it goes from there? sometimes he moved when he was little and went through the whole visa thing, sometimes he didnt go through the visa thing, sometimes hes a dual citizen because of family and shit, its all dependent on what suits the situation best.

one that ive been fucking with for a while but hardly break out (until recently with like 5 roses in the span of one day hell yeah) is that he has a neighbor at the end of the hall who is like a thousand year old witch lady that hes basically adopted as his mother figure in lieu of not having one and shes totally cool with it, especially bc when she kicks the bucket she fully plans on giving dave all her occult stuff so her figure-skating coach and realtor daughter doesnt sell it at a garage sale and lets it all go to waste. she also once brought rose up by name in a conversation without any prompting of her existence which dave didnt realize for days, and then one time cryptically stopped and stared at an empty space in the wall, went “she has potential, you know.” then looked at him sitting on her kitchen counter with a smile “lots of it” and hes thought about that weekly ever since. (it is important to note one of the occult items he leaves her is literally her own personal book of shadows shes been filling out for decades its like a 600 page leatherbound book dave has no idea what its used for but the sheer amount of homemade spells and etc in it is like. gonna murder rose the second this chick gets her hands on it i promise you.)

theres the standard strife shit? im not rlly gonna get into those theyre all basically cookie cutter bullshit. its just standard bro and dave abuse talk. i like to inclulde the whole 24hr live cam up in the apartment that definitely watches dave in every room besides his own and the bathroom, but that quickly delves into the prospect of middle-aged men stalking him online and basically sexually harassing him in his own god damn home by talking about how they can see him just trying to take his shoes off in the living room after getting home and frankly? its not one of my best takes! but once you throw it into the headcanon bin, its there forever.

he actually really does do something with his photography but not enough to warrant anything exciting, but he has his own branding for it and regularly takes pictures of his friends or anything else he thinks is moderately interesting enough to take pictures of, but those are just thrown into shoeboxes under his bed in favor of posting genuine shots because he wants to keep his image intact and blurry photos of jade smiling in the tree they climbed up together while bec paws at the base of it while whining isnt exactly something he wants the whole world to see.

i also pretty often but him into either paleontology OR i put him down as trying to become a mortician because he thinks handing roadkill once he graduated from museum giftshop specimens to doing his own taxidermy on the side has prepared him enough to perform an occasional autopsy and start embalming real human corpses. (sometimes i put my own desires in and make them his bc i have to project at some point and put him through the same EMT course i dropped out of bc it was one semester and he already has pretty decent first aid skills, but he definitely didnt expect it to be as fucking wild at times as it is, but whats he gonna do? get a job back at waffle house? the company hes working for just offered to pay like half his associates in paramedicine tuition and hes already got all his pre-recs done when he started for paleo. at least its a stable job and hes got the ability to be compassionate in the moment)

im running out of things that ive done to the poor kid. OH

hes not a virgin he had a girlfriend all four years of high school (shes also one of his optional and designated exes plz keep up) and their relationship ends in one of two ways: she dies in a car accident a week before their high school graduation, or she stops talking to him entirely a week after their high school graduation until a couple years later she gets into (guess what) a car accident with her current wife/girlfriend and dies which leaves behind their daughter. who just so happens to also be daves daughter. her name is hannah and i love her like my own but no one ever likes her and thats on the conditioning of dirk. does dave end up taking her in? yes. shes awesome and the first time he takes her to the park to like run off some fucking steam she disappears for two minutes and dave is moderately terrified until she comes back holding a dead baby squirrel and thats the moment he realizes huh maybe things really do be genetic.

ok at the bottom of the list im gonna add the couple of times hes been a camboy which usually coincides with the live apartment cam thing and the amount of people in his dms calling him hot or whatever, but typically its more of a started the day he turned 18 and basically dipped around 20 in favor of showing up randomly with no warning to complain about a video game dick in hand because it gives him an outlet that wont annoy his friends bc this is the fifteenth time hes had a lot to say this week about a certain boss battle and also the comments fuel his ego and daddy issues.

the last one wasnt the bottom but literally unless its explicitly proven otherwise every time anyone rps with me there is the underlying fact dave strider was a goalie on his high school lacrosse teams all four years and (shocker another one) definitely had the hots for one of his teammates like major hots like first gay experience hots. like it was painfully obvious that teammate also liked him back hots. like one night at a team sleepover one of the other guys was like can yall just makeout and get it over with were fucking tired and dave really had the balls to be offended and ask what the fuck they were talking about while literally sitting halfway in the mans lap bc for some reason they had to share the same chair.

he is also guilty until proven innocent of being the worlds biggest loner outside of that sports team and even though hes literally a jock he still opts to eat his lunch alone in the hallway or something like that and has a tendency to leave girls on read, but bc hes got an in with the rest of the jocks hes basically drug around to plenty of parties and since hes conventionally attractive enough and popular in the aloof way that he is, hes got plenty of tagged insta posts and twitter directs and snapchat streaks going.

How easy is it for your character to laugh?FAIrly easy?? on a level of one to ten w one being laughs at anything that moves or doesn’t move i’d say he’s a.. 6. ok so not that easily like he IS fairly taciturn but he will smile and laugh at a good joke esp if he’s comfy around the person making it

How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)by crying- no jk he doesn’t… cry… emotions? what are those??? How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt? oh, very hard. he’s naturally altruistic so he tends to take failures to heart and internalize them and considering the dangerous line of work he’s in he oftens has guilt building up inside him. he’ll likely carry it w him for the rest of his life once he’s decided to be guilty abt smth. if someone doesn’t help him w it it can break him down in ugly ways

How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive? yes!! he’s a pure son. you’ll definitely get a smile out of him if smth good has happened to u. he’s very supportive of his friends. he would die for his friends and likely all of u i just want u all to know this

Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap?neither. he finds seeking romance irresponsible w his lifestyle. as i previously stated he expects to die young

Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)? he has fairly good memory esp w faces! but otherwise? i would say he learns best by touch. he’s a tactile person and also fairly auditory. music defo helps him remember things

What memory do they revisit the most often? prbly the day he separated from his sisters. it’s not a particularly good memory but it’s seared in his mind

How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people? he doesn’t ignore ppl’s flaws per se? he’s p perceptive so it’s difficult for him to just turn a blind eye at least within his own mind but eneko is v tolerant of ppl and accepting. even if he dislikes u it’s doubtful you’ll know he’s fairly good at keeping up the same respect for most everyone he comes in contact w. but yeah? he knows what flaws are there but he will simply accept ppl bc he knows everyone, including himself, esp himself, has many flaws

How sensitive are they to their own flaws?oh oof yeah he’s?? a p sensitive guy so while he recognizes his own faults jabs to his weak spots will hurt him and he’ll prbly sit on the accusation or callout for days esp if someone accuses him of being selfish or immoral or not having done enough for the ppl he cares abt (smth along those lines) he’d absolutely hate that. but if u tell him he’s blunt he’s going to be like im well aware of that

iyo when you write non-straight characters should you specify their sexuality/gender? I mean I'm personally a very 'not into labels at all' person for my own sexuality but support ppl who do find comfort in labels. but when I write I also tend to go toward the 'he just loves who he loves !!!' that sounded stupid but idk how to explain it.. so... like I was wondering why you feel strongly about explicitly stating someone's queerness instead of it being implied (at least u come off as that sorta)

i do definitely feel like that so!! i happen to have a lot of feelings about this so get ready for a Long Ramble. this is a precaution before ive even started typing i just know im gonna write a lot

i think before we start saying anything, we’ve got to acknowledge the difference between people who say that they dont like labels, and writing characters who Don’t Like Labels™. pointing out the problems of the latter is not a condemnation of the former. if someone rly doesnt feel like labeling their sexuality or gender, thats totally alright. the difference between these two is the person is a nuanced, multifaceted human being who may have lots of personal reasons for feeling that way, while the second is a fictional character that is Created and informed by cultural views of the creator. a person is not “created” by one single author and characters arent like…real living agents that have their Own Free Will, they are what their creators make of them. anyway i just feel like this is a rly important distinction that gets lost often!! i’m also more willing to look favorably on someone who self describes that way writing characters based on their own experiences, bc this perspective is inherently different from a straight person writing these sorts of characters. but moving on.

whats also important to understand, beyond writing characters, is how being openly not straight is shunned. queer people are not allowed to Exist as openly queer and they have not been allowed historically. even these days among people who consider themselves progressive, you’ll often hear that “its alright if someone is gay but do they have to shove it in my face all the time.” this attitude isnt somehow formed in vacuum, but created in a society that treats been openly queer as a taboo. we aren’t allowed to be open about our sexualities the way straight people are. we can’t acknowledge that we’re queer lest someone tells us to Stop Shoving It In Their Face (not missing the irony as we’re surrounded by 400 billboards of hetero couples everywhere). i dont wan’t to delve into other aspects of discrimination and get too off track here, i just want to focus on how being Openly queer is treated as a taboo, particularly among people who still want to call themselves ‘accepting.’ the only way society allows queer people to exist is if they never remind anyone, Ever that they are not straight.

this is Integral to understanding why the i Don’t Like Labels characters are so frustrating. the unwillingness to Explicitly talk about queer people carries over quite handily to media. the same faux progressive people that demand queer people never talk about being queer bc its Too Much Information, will praise queer coded characters that hint at their sexuality but never confirm it. the reason these characters are written is not to genuinely explore why someone might feel uncomfortable with applying labels to themselves, but to appease people who will accept queerness as long as they never have to acknowledge it. this way, u can court queer people interested in representation And people who might like the story but will be uncomfortable with explicit queerness. its an attempt for writers to cash in on peoples desires for interesting queer characters without ever actually fully committing to representing them. you dont get to claim to support queer people if ur also out there providing comfort for peoples homophobia. you cant have a foot in both doors.

describing queer experiences without calling them queer means that youre okay with this story as long as u dont acknowledge it as something Explicitly not straight and like…why?? why is it suddenly not okay when u take that bundle of experiences and use the word that theyre defining?? theres Weight behind using words like bi, gay, lesbian and if u reject them are u Really okay with lgbtq people? or are you okay with them Despite the fact that theyre lgbtq and not because you take into account theyre lgbtq. acceptance is not tolerating people Despite something, its acknowledging it and validating it as an okay thing to be. especially when it is something that historically Not been validated as okay. dismantling structural systems of queerphobia does not go about by ignoring queerphobia…shit this doesnt just fade away by chance, it takes active work. and part of this active work is Acknowledging Peoples Queerness As Something that is okay Out In The Open. the You in this isnt directed at you anon, just people who have these sentiments.

throwing vague statements like ‘they just love who they love’ Also creates this level of ambiguity. you might say “well why do u need the certainty when ur describing what is at the very least, something obviously very not straight” and to that i say youd be fucking surprised at how goddamn hard straight people will try to erase the queerness out of a character. like i’m going to use a game called life is strange as a example. i’ll give some background: in the game, the main character max can romance both chloe and warren. note that max is not one of those blank state wholly customisable bioware-esque player characters, she has a personality outside of the choices u make. anyway, the conclusion that is Logically drawn from this is that she is most likely bisexual. or at the very least in some way, not straight. and Yet i have seen discussions that say “she doesnt have a set sexuality it just depends on the playthrough so shes not rly a Queer Character.” even more than that, ive seen people that saw “well even in the chloe one shes not necessarily gay or bi maybe shes just Making an Exception for chloe bc their relationship transcends sexuality” and like ??? Why??? why cant she just be bi?? even when given a queer romance, why do u try and interpret it in a way that sets her up as straight?? ive seen people say “its not a romance its just something that Transcends Words” as if this is… mutually exclusive from being a romance. like… Why doesnt this happen when hetero relationships are depicted?? ive literally never seen someone say “u know, maybe hes not attracted to women and just Making an Exception so hes not straight” why dont u see people try to erase the romance aspect out of hetero romances by claiming their relationship is “Beyond Words.” this treatment is 1000% only ever afforded to queer characters. this attempt to play off romance as not rly romantic is only done to queer characters, even if its done subconsciously. people will Refuse to accept a character is queer as fuck if you dodge around it, because heteronormativity is so ingrained in every interaction that even obviously queer characters get filtered through this lens. the problem with this isnt necessarily apparent until u look at it within historical context, where queer people are repeatedly not allowed to be openly queer. these arent isolated incidents, but manifestations of the idea that queer people shouldnt ever be open about their sexuality. youve got to tackle the discomfort that people have with words like gay/lesbian/bi/etc

i think this particular character trope wouldnt bother me so much if it wasnt like… the only narrative ever present. time and time again, i have to see characters proclaim that they dont like labels while never once even hearing people breathe the word bisexual. if it existed alongside characters who were explicitly queer it would be less frustrating But its literally one of the few ways (semi positive attempts at least) queer characters are ever portrayed. this is particularly true for bisexual characters lmao like… yes…theres people who dont like labels…but theres also millions of bi people that just wanna see a fucking bi character Talk about being bi and all we ever get is a vague “i dont like labels” (that is often never explored further than that and treated as a throwaway line anyway). is creating characters who say that a genuine attempt to characterize someones struggles with labels or is it just a way to avoid saying the word Bisexual.

same with queer romance in media. its only ever Okay if u just hint at it- see dumbledore being gay. see- the korrasami thing (though i dont fault the writers for this bc they pushed hard for what they got, its issues with the network). why are queer people relegated to drawn out stares that May imply something while straight characters are allowed to get into explicit relationships. when u create ambiguous characters that May be interpreted as straight (even if youve really gotta stretch) ur prefer to maintain the negative “neutral” of the heteronormative status quo and allow homophobes to live with their views unchallenged more than u care about addressing queerness in characters.

its not a coincidence that we dont do this to straight romance or straight characters. this is particularly important for queer kids!! its good to see queer characters out there being openly queer. while me and u can often pick up on queer themes and narratives, a 8 year old is not going to get that. especially when theyve been conditioned to see straight romance as the only feasible choice. they wont realize the character youre writing is gay or bi or whatever Because they havent been exposed to the connotations we associate w certain phrases. its so important for queer kids to see queer characters Owning that theyre queer. its especially importantly to normalize words like gay or bi or pan. being gay is often Extremely hypersexualized (which is why so many people will tell u they dont care what u do in the bedroom bc they can only picture queerness is a sexual context) so when u Dont treat these words as things only adults can say, u help get rid of the stigma surrounding them. u help remove the idea that being queer is inappropriate for kids to hear about and that the only possible aspect to being queer is sexual.

anyway this has been Quite the Ramble but the point is that yes, we need to write more characters who are absolutely explicit about their sexuality and move away from the expectation that queer people need to create euphemisms to comfort homophobes desires to never hear about queerness.

I know you're going to sleep, but I wanted to ask these questions before I forget. 1. Is their codependent relationship toxic at times? I have a lot of issues with codependency myself, so that type of relationship in others is interesting to me. 2. Please tell me more about Damien and Nehal. I am IN LOVE with the idea of an incubus/human relationship. Especially one where the incubus actually falls in love. 3. This isn't a question but I adore literally everything about your characters.

1) Yeah it’s really not the healthiest arrangement. They kind of literally depend on each other for a lot–income, food, emotional support because they’re frikkin secret demon hunters and have to lie to 90% of their associates, they share a lot of the same friends, so basically when ever they’re pissed at each other there’s no way to escape one another and cool down, because chances are in the next 24 hours they’re going to NEED one another for something but it’s not the best idea to be together in that time. So that stuff really strains their relationships and builds up over time that results in a vague climax set sometime in their future where they kind of Fuck each other over really really really badly.

Like they love each other so much but they’ve literally never spent much time apart. Mar kind of realizes how codependent they can be and is usually the one who tries to get some healthy distance, but at the same time Jule is worried about Mar and tries to go after her and draw her back in. Jule isn’t like, the unobservant Bad one in the relationship though, because often Mar will see being distant as being rude and mean and will try to make distance by being horrible to his sibling, and so Jule will not realize that oh, they just need some healthy time apart, Mar just seems to be rude and upset and Jule wants to help.

Their parents kind of established their codependency at a young age too. Demon hunters hunt in partnerships or packs, and so they thought making sure their twin children bonded deeply at young age would aid their future hunting endeavors, but failed to realize how bad that could be when they literally never spent time apart and grew seperately as people. Their parents also had a pretty close linked relationship but it didn’t get so deeply codependent because of factors related to the High Council of Monster Hunting (thats not its name but its like, a good descriptor lol)

2) So basically incubuses have sex with humans in order to live. They don’t usually kill their partners, and they don’t actually have any sort of thrall–they just have some bomb ass pheromones and are sexy as hell. Like, no mind altering tricks, they’re just a 200 on a scale of 1 to 10. It isn’t unheard of for them to form romantic attachments, but it’s usually with other demons and if its with humans, its more of a business relationship.

Nehal has a physical issue that arises where he basically NEEDS to kill his partners in order to live. There’s no way around it, he just needs to do it otherwise he will die. Now demons don’t see humans as special from other animals, mostly as a sentient food source, so other incubuses don’t feel like he really has a problem. At first he doesn’t either, but he slowly realizes he has a lot of guilt that he’s killing the humans he sucks life force from. He sets up a sustainable arrangement of having sex w/ nursing home folks he explains the situation to or sex w/ hospice care people. (Also, ppl dont like die in bed with him. Its more like within the few days after a human has sex w/ an incubus or succubus, they kind of fizzle out. Like they had some awesome sex and theyre so exhausted after they kind of just…die).

Nehal gets on Mar and Jule’s radar because he suddenly starts dating Damien when not-about-to-die people in nightclubs and stuff start looking like they’re getting fucked to death. Damien is vague about where they met, and Nehal is kind of obviously a demon to Mar and Jule because they’re so good at what they do (actually its because they get really suddenly attracted to him and they’re the type of people to freak out about wanting to bang their best friends boyfriend so OF COURSE they do a magic check on him to absolve their guilt and luckily for them i guess he’s and incubus)

Nehal and Damien do not meet at a night club. They meet at a sex toy store because Damien is getting a friend a gift and Nehal is looking for uh, work equipment? Anyway Damien charms the pants of Nehal and Nehal in addition to being smoking hot is actually super nice so they set up a date and well, end up dating. Its starts off with just talking but they get into a physical relationship too, which really fucks up Nehal because he’s kind of like ‘if i forget about my lethal sex powers i might accidentally kill my boyfriend oh FUCK’. On top of that, not feeding during sex is highly looked down upon by incubi/succubi, so when his fam finds out hes having SEX with his HUMAN boyfriend and not KILLING HIM they’re kind of judgey.

Damien is just such a sweet, sweet dude, I can’t stress that enough. He just has a really big heart and is willing to help out anyone who crosses his path even though he has so many issues to deal with himself like how could Nehal NOT fall in love? And Nehal isn’t like, down with humanity (even though he feels some guilt over straight up killing ppl for food) but he thinks everything humanity has done was worth it if it mean bringin Damien into the world.
