Detectives are at their best when they have something so fundamentally strange about them, but I also think that where writers go wrong is putting that strangeness before things like empathy and kindness.

Like. There is such a stark difference between Poirot softly empathizing with victims; Columbo genuinely befriending the very people he’s trying to convict.

bbc Sherlock basically just solving puzzles.

It’s not really something I noticed as a kid watching the show, because I had much less empathy back then myself. I could relate to Sherlock then because I think we both viewed the crimes in the same way. Distanced. An exciting puzzle with no actual ramifications. Once the case is solved, that’s it.

And idk, maybe there is a place for that. But to me, it feels more akin to jigsaw than its detective counterparts.

Do you think you’ll ever do art commissions?

im not really sure. art commissions would let me work at my own pace and make money on the side, but im worried of things thatll get in the way

firstly im more used to drawing for myself. ive drawn other ppls characters and fanart, but those are on my own whims and pace and i dont have to negotiate things with anyone. drawing for someone else can be helpful since i work best with instructions, but im not very keen on doing things im not interested in and i might be hard to work with

i also avoid using online payments when i can, so im apprehensive around making online transactions. etransfer policies arent very kind to artists and theres also the risk of disclosing my personal information

given the industry im going into, im aware that im gonna have to figure out how to tackle these sooner or later, and maybe then ill be confident enough to manage commissions. but right now its fuzzy

the thing about revisit of the fight in 1x5 is that Louis started it and Louis kept it going and Louis threatened to kill Lestat but it's kicked off because Lestat put his hands on Claudia. that's what tips Louis over the edge into physical violence.

and the other thing about that fight is that Louis was not going to leave Lestat. He's not focused on trying to get away or comfort Claudia, though he is enraged on her behalf. He is trying to hurt Lestat. He can't really hurt him but he doesn't know that yet. He wants to punish him for both what he did to Claudia and for Claudia leaving in the first place. honestly knowing Louis probably for some other stuff while he's at it. he's been punishing him for seven years. But I really don't think he was going to actually try and leave him. that's so fucked up. they're so fucked up.

in other news! it turns out if you want to draw a comic about the strage di senigallia, you have to figure out designs for all the people in the room, but if you draw vitellozzo, you also have to draw his brother because he's like. there. in a dead way. something something vitellozzo's desire to avenge his brother manifesting in his desire to brutalize florence for their role in his brother's death.

that said, I did not want to draw military armor for an illustration that was partially designed to test out some splatter brushes. in the future though….I will have to revisit that visual…..
