Solo, duo and group concerts in Duisburg and Berlin
On Wednesday, June 26, I’ll be playing an improvised concert with Jessica Ackerley (guitar), Eli Wallace (piano), Camila Nebbia (sax) and Cansu Tanrıkulu (voice, effects) at Sowieso. This is going to be a fun evening of first encounters for me. The only musician I’ve played with before is Cansu – in many settings as well as in our duo Pep Talk On Saturday, June 29, I’ll be playing a structured…

Today we have another DM related release but new one from Vince Clarke. His first solo album Songs of Silence is out!
For recording this ambient album Vince used a Eurorack modular synthesizer system.
Clarke celebrates this release with his debut solo show tonight at the LSESU in London, with Sunroof (comprising Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones) as the opening act. Additionally, a Q&A session featuring Daniel Miller is scheduled at Rough Trade East on Sunday, November 19th. Side Line News

I’m filing a maintenance request. The supreme leader had a temper tantrum accidentally destroyed damaged the turbolift to the main hanger.
@angry-space-ginger
First of all, Hux, it's been a while since Ren Ben Solo died. Stop calling him the Supreme Leader. It gives him a big head and I can't stand him when his ego is at full power.
Second of all, STOP CHECKING YOUR WORK EMAILS WHILE YOU'RE GONE. I've seen the damage. Sometimes, when he does his Force ghost manifestation thing, he appears halfway in the turbolift when it's between floors and it mucks up the electronics. I'll have it fixed by tomorrow afternoon.
Third of all, do you know when you'll be arriving home? I'd love to have a few days' notice. For no particular reason.

Dear listener, I understand that having a white dude on Tumblr recommending excellent black music makes about as much initial sense as me suggesting that you upgrade your home to cutting-edge VCR and landline phone technologies. Given the current racial tensions in the US right now, all I ask is that you give this white boy’s recommendation the old community college try. This week the focus will be on Santigold, a cross-genre artist that deserves way more attention than is afforded to her. I’ve been listening to Santigold’s music for nearly a decade, and I’ve said it before, but you guys can keep your Cardi B’s and your Nikki Minaj’s because when I’m hungry for excellent music, I come to the table for something rare, experimental, smart and versatile. Santigold delivers all of that, and more. Smash play on Look At These Hoes from her 2012 album Master of My Make-Believe, and if it pleases you, join me for rolling fields of gold below.

A genuine music industry trailblazer, Santi White started off her career as a mere A&R (her job was to find promising new artists and bring them in to sign contracts) for Epic Records. This Philadelphia-born multitalented maven started collaborating with musicians, and then in 2001 became the lead singer in a ska band called Stiffed. The best part of this group’s music was the vocals and lyrics, and after disbanding in 2005 or so, Ms White embarked upon her solo career. A solo career that has lasted nearly two decades to this year. There’s an island vibe to her music, and I’m not just talking about the style. Her music feels different than anything mainstream in terms of raw brain-power, exceptional flow and overall depth of meaning. She makes music that thinks as much as it works to go against the mainstream grain. She deserves respect and legitimate accolades for sticking to her guns and staying genuine through her career, rather than selling out and producing the equivalent of another WAP just for the sake of raking in millions from people with questionable taste in music. Along with having a sultry mezzo-soprano voice (my personal favorite lady voice type) her style is a mishmash of hip-hop, new wave, punk and electro. If you listen to her jams and don’t find your head and body bobbing to her beats, I believe I can officially pronounce that you have no actual soul in your body! If you spend any time at all studying the deeper meaning behind her jams, you will find complex themes of resilience, perception of reality and an overall complexity of character which few, if any ‘similar’ artists can even approach without immediately appearing to be outside of their mental depth. Just below you’ll find the music video for L.E.S. Artistes from her 2008 album Santogold. Enjoy!

As the first song on this post strongly suggests, Santi White ain’t no booty hoe. She’s highly educated, she’s a mother, and in terms of eloquence of execution… she’s an absolute industry badass. You owe it to yourself to take a deep dive into Santigold’s catalog and I implore you to revere artists like her as the mega-talents they truly are. Infinite list of favourite lyrics: 228/?
Rainbow - Since You Been Gone (1979)
"So in the night I stand,
Beneath the backstreet light,
I read the words that you sent to me.
I could take the afternoon
But nighttime comes around too soon -
You can't know what you mean to me.
Your poison letter,
Your telegram,
Just goes to show you don't give a damn!"
#favourite lyrics#rainbow#since you been gone#1979#russ ballard#down to earth#I'm not sure how many people realise that Since You Been Gone (and it is You‚ not You've‚ despite the intriguing typo on the single sleeve#i used for an image) the song which gave Rainbow their first hit single‚ became a rock anthem and forever associated with the band‚ is#actually a cover version. Russ Ballard‚ in the aftermath of leaving Argent‚ had reinvented himself as a solo artist and wrote the song for#his 1976 album Winning. his version is good‚ but can come as a bit of a surprise: it's... a little goofy tbh. punctuated by strange#electronic boops and bleeps‚ it's a chipper‚ strangely upbeat delivery. Ballard was a celebrated songwriter already in his own time‚ and#his songs commonly covered; several artists beat Rainbow to this song‚ actually‚ with US rockers Head East perhaps the first to give it a#slightly heavier sound. but it was Rainbow who stripped the song down and built it back up from scratch‚ retooling a piano heavy oddity#into a hard rock tragic masterpiece. there's some subtle changes in their arrangement (the scansion in the quoted lines is markedly#different across Rainbow and Ballard's versions) but the chief ingredient that made Rainbow's version a radio mainstay and a huge#commercial success (and the beginnings of a more commercially viable sound for the band) has to be the lead vocals by Graham Bonnet#actually Down to Earth was Bonnet's sole album with Rainbow‚ replacing Ronnie James Dio who'd departed after disagreements with band#founder Ritchie Blackmore. the band had something of a rotating membership from the beginning‚ and Bonnet soon moved on to form his#own metal band‚ Alcatrazz. his delivery on this song‚ though‚ is incredible: a full throated‚ roaring‚ soul baring triumph#that couldn't be further from Ballard's vaguely cheery sing song. backed by a wall of guitar and drums‚ it's a completely different song#a complete stylistic reinvention into a blaring‚ stomping‚ iconic entry in the 70s hard rock canon
