Rick Riordan puts a scene with Nico and Jason back to back with a scene starring Nico and Will. And these scenes sort of demonstrate why I prefer Jason x Nico to Nico x Will (don't ask where Jason x Leo fit in, since I love them too. Let's put that aside for now). Will and Nico first:

"You're so dense," Will noted. "I hope you got over that nonsense about leaving Camp Half-Blood." "I - yeah. I did. I mean, I'm staying." "Good. So you may be dense, but you're not an idiot." "How can you even talk to me like that? Don't you know I can summon zombies and skeletons and -" "Right now you couldn't summon a wishbone without melting into a puddle of darkness, di Angelo," Will said. "I told you, no more Underworld-y stuff, doctor's orders. You owe me at least three days of rest in the infirmary. Starting now."

Is this romantic? I mean… I've never actually felt romantic attraction in real life, but is calling someone dense and never using their first name a sign of love? And calling their idea to leave nonsense? This is love? I… I really don't think it is. This feels more like a condescending, argumentative relationship between two people who barely know each other. They feel like they'd become frenemies, not lovers. And I say that with all due respect to people who like Will Solace. I don't want to make enemies of his fans, since I don't actually hate him. Do I dislike 90% of his lines? Yeah. Do I hate him like I hated Luke? No. Oh, hells no. Will is okay. Not great, but okay. I just don't see romance between these two in the cards. It doesn't make much sense to me.

Now, here's Jason and Nico's scene:

"You've got a point." He straightened his glasses. "Look, Nico, the reason I wanted to you…I know what you said back at Auster's palace. I know you already turned down a place at Camp Jupiter. I-I probably can't change your mind about leaving Camp Half-Blood, but I have to -" "I'm staying." Jason blinked. "What?" "At Camp Half-Blood. The Hades Cabin needs a head counselor. Have you seen the decor? It's disgusting. I'll have to remodel. And someone needs to do the burial rites properly, since demigods insist on dying heroically." "That's - That's fantastic! Dude!" Jason opened his arms for a hug, then froze. "Right. No touching. Sorry." Nico grunted. "I suppose we can make an exception." Jason squeezed him so hard Nico thought his ribs would crack. "Oh, man," Jason said. "Wait till I tell Piper. Hey, since I'm all alone in my cabin too, you and I can share at table at the dining hall. We can team up for capture the flag and sing-along contests and -" "Are you trying to scare me away?" "Sorry. Sorry. Whatever you say Nico. I'm just glad." The funny thing was, Nico believed him.

There. Now, Isn't that way better? Hugs, respect for boundaries, two lonely people finally finding each other… there's so much in Jason and Nico's relationship that makes me feel happy. Rick Riordan may not have wanted them to be his same sex couple, but they're the ones that should've gotten together. Will should've been Nico's friend/friendly rival or something. But Jason and Nico have a bond beyond words. I… I legitimately can't describe it. But this type of romance works because it wasn't designed to be a romance. It's just…love. The fact that these two love each other so unconditionally… I want what they have. I don't feel ashamed of saying that. Because what they have is beautiful.

One of the most annoying things I find about Solangelo is the lack of development, the lack of progress from platonic to romantic in their relationship.

What, you're telling me that Nico, Nico di Angelo, an important character in the original PJO series and also HOO, who gets his own POV, just suddenly gets together with a random doctor………Will Solace? We see Will in what, The Last Olympian? And then we see him again in The Lost Hero, BARELY, just a few lines, and then again in Blood of Olympus, where he tells Nico that the latter that he's dense but not stupid? Which would be enough to piss Nico off? And then in Trials of Apollo……….they're…………TOGETHER? We barely got any chemistry or screentime, and what with Nico's internalized homophobia and years-long crush on Percy……….. HE WOULD NOT DO THAT. You don't just kiss someone your gender after only MONTHS of internalized homophobia, especially when Nico is from the LITERAL 1930s, where people were MURDERED for being gay.

It's clear that Rick only gave him a partner to 'confirm' it, which is annoying, because people can be gay without having partners.

And also, Will is so random and such a random, thrown-in character that I find it funny at times. Of course, he has somewhat of a personality outside being Nico's boyfriend, but not enough to make him a good sole character.Also, he's a terrible doctor for giving Nico's medical information to other people without Nico's consent-and he's 16. He clearly knows that he shouldn't do it. And he still does it.

Today i chose violence so here a list of my unpopular PjO opinions. Feel free to discuss them:

- Nico di Angelo would have made a great aro/ace representation;

- Solangelo has potential as a couple but it was poorly written and it's just there to "prove" Nico's sexuality. Also Tsats made both of them dirty;

- Reyna and Thalia would have made a GREAT lesbian representation;

- Frank is the real token-straight guy out the main cast. Jason is VERY bisexual-code;

- Leo would have made a GREAT gay representation;

- RR writes characters from minorities mostly for publicity and profit and it doesn't feel genuine anymore;

- None of the main couples in the story were necessary except Percabeth. They are actually teenagers and finding romantic love shouldn't be their number 1 priority. Also a person can be gay/bi AND single;

And Percabeth shippers are making me hate Percabeth even more than I already did.

Jesus Christ just stop with the ship bash, if I search (for example) for Percico/Jercico in Pinterest I DON'T want to see comments bashing the ship or the creator of the fanart. Would you like if we commented on Percabeth/Solangelo fanarts bashing your ships? No, right? Then stop bashing our ships.

I don't mind you creating a post explaining why you like "X" ship or why you dislike "Y" ship, because you have the right to give your opinion. But don't watch posts of the ships you don't like just to bash them in the same post.

If you did not like Nico and Will’s relationship development in TSATS, and you made a point to post and vocalize how much you did not like it, maybe you should stay outta the tags, and stick to all the fanfiction you prefer instead!!! Or find another book series or something

Maybe dont bother with Court of the Dead. You werent happy about the first book so you probably wont be happy with this one either! That’s fine! Not a shortcoming on your part…. But there are plenty of people in this fandom who are excited for this sequel who really don’t have time & energy for bad faith arguments.

so why exactly do some people think nico giving will his ring is out of character? what is out of character about nico giving someone he’s clearly very in love with an item so close to his heart? where in the text does it suggest that nico would absolutely never do something like this? we already know the lengths nico goes for the people he loves, but him giving the love of his life his ring is OOC?

“it’s a family ring” and?? if anything doesn’t it mean he considers will his family? nico loves will. i don’t know what else to tell you. YOU might not like or agree with it but that doesn’t always mean it’s OOC.

The entire PREMISE of The Sun and the Star is built on the worst logic ever.

Hades sends his son to literal hell knowing that he could die just to get a Titan (who has his memories back, mind you) out of it. Because apparently 'Bob was getting too loud'.

If Hades can get that satyr out of Tartarus, then why the hell can't he get Bob out of Tartarus?

And don't tell me he can't, because Bob was literally allowed to be a janitor at Hades' palace when his memories were wiped. And Bob decided to be good, so Hades could easily take him out of there

This just says how bad The Sun and the Star is as a book.

I mean, why didn't Rick just give us short stories of Nico and Will between HOO and ToA? That would have been way better.

It’s just… Solangelo sucks SO MUCH, you’ve probably already seen my other posts on here ranting about this ships existence.

And I just HATE Will Solace as a whole too, a minor background character with a max of only 5 lines in the entire series pre-TOA… and this is why I don’t even consider TOA to be canon in my eyes

Don’t even get me started on Nico’s characters assasination, him getting reduced to ‘Will’s Goth/Emo soft boyfriend that needs to be protected’ YUCK.

Controversial opinion:

Percy Jackson fandom can be a little annoying. Because even when you block the tag percabeth, solangelo, annabeth chase, will solace. Your still shit out of luck because it makes up 90% of the Fandom. So it's just rows upon fucking rows of "this post contains filtered tags" when all you wanted to do was look up some nice nico(by himself mind you) di angelo fanart or some Percy fanart. But no its just rows of blocked percabeth tags. The ship I can't stand the most.

Do you know that saying where insanity is when you do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different out come. Yeah that's me. I mean really what did I expect? This is so like the owl house Fandom all over again.
