Ok, so I changed my URL (former @mychemicalstudies)

And that’s because I was not feeling happy with chemical engineering the way I thought I would, so I changed my course to software engineering and I think I finally found a place for me! I’m not really giving any details right now, but if you’re interested, I can write a post (it can be in portuguese as well!) about my journey into the IT area :)

Yo, this is my first finals season in university and I’m stressing so much. I’m getting insomnia and stuff. So I decided to talk with my mom, (who also studied engineering) and she gave me some study tips for my finals. I’m not that stressed anymore, after talking to her. Best feeling in the world!

If you have access to past exams, do them first! If you also have access to solutions, correct yourself and grade it. Don’t waste time on anything else

You got time left before the exam? Review some examples took in class or if you have a textbook, do some exercises that were recommended.

Still have time (you lucky!)? Re-do the past exams, till you get a grade that pleases you (my mom would aim for 80%-100%)

Always leave a day before the exam to do a review: look back at your notes, at your past exams, at your textbook... You get it, look at everything that still bothers you or you don’t feel okay with, and work on that thing.

What if you don’t have access to past exams? One of my classes there is no past exam, or if there is there is no solution. It’s an “ethics for engineering” online class. However, I have access to massive final review cheat sheets, written by students who have taken the class, so imma study those and make sure that I understand them. If there are past exams, but no solutions, you can still do them to put you in the mood, and if you have time, correct yourself using your notes, textbook, internet...

Tomorrow is my birthday!!! And I have an exam😒

The page on the left with the quote is to fill up the empty space that was left under the notes I took of a workshop I found on YouTube. It was about time management in university and so I put this motivational quote ya know *please don't roast my calligraphical skill.. Ya girl is not artsy at all*

On the right page is a prep for my tomorrow's test. It's my engineering writing test and it's mandatory to do in the first year of engineering. Wish me luck cuz English is my third language (eventhough I'm confident, I still worry a bit)

This is ridiculous😂 how many computer does an engineering student need 😂 waw I don't use that much on a daily basis, trust me 😝 the first laptop on the left is the laptop you see in all my pictures, I'm backing it up and its connected to the screen on the right because the more screens the better hahaha and the laptop in the center is a laptop that I "restored" or "reinitialized" and now its working like a gem 💎

That java assignment is tough though.. It's on arrays and classes. Thank goodness for StackOverflow 😂

Recieved my grade for that discrete math midterm.. Let's just say I passed haha *laugh turns slowly to cry* no but legit I passed, but it's not great

Also, took the longest nap of the century and woke up in a different dimension 😂 but my body is lacking sleep and since I don't have an exam 'til in 2 weeks, I allowed myself to relax a bit.

Doing some past finals to prepare myself for my first final, on Saturday. I'm stressing, but the teacher said that the final was "primitive" and "easy", and the past finals are pretty straight forward so...

I feel like I have to say this, I'm pro getting enough sleep ans stuff, but I personally am a night owl. I'm more productive at night, and sleep more during the day. And I know I'm not alone, so to all my night owls, get enough sleep, but get it the way that works for you. Might not be the best advice, but whatever

Had my discrete math midterm yesterday and I have no clue how it went.. I do not feel good about it, but I can't stress about it anymore because that won't change anything

I divided all the work I have to do and distributed on the days I have before they are due

Also I'm using this tote bag as my school bag because it's really sturdy and holds everything I bring with me on a daily basis, and because it promotes a good cause💕

Yo I didn't want to study for the life of me today... And I feel we don't talk enough about that..we don't talk enough about the feeling of unmotivaton. I promote, and will always do, motivation and the love of education, but sometimes you just don't wanna do it, don't wanna pick up that book.. I just wanna say to you, it's fine. Do something else for a bit, and, if you can, force yourself to do the [...] work after. But don't let that feeling become your reality, be stronger, but always listen to your body.

So today I dyed my mom's hair and mine, and then decided to go back to my discrete math (Midterm on Thursday #pray). Got more done than expected, legit

I don't understand why this math bring me all kind of feels

The week just started and it's already off with a bad start with little sparks of good (cuz there is always a bit of good in everything)...

Sunday: went to be a spectator in a AI hackathon. It was fun, got to meet with a lot of people of the industry. Also realized that AI wasn't probably my thing.. And at the end of the night I received a bad news (which has nothing to do with me btw)..

Monday (aka the 💩 show): Got more information on that bad news, and realized that as much as I'm always here for people, I have people who are always here for me too (which is just a warm thought, and reassurance). And then, oh boy! I had an assignment due for my programming class, and ya girl likes to keep her stuff 'till last minute (cuz "she works better under stress" aka the biggest lie for my procrastination hehe) and it backfired on me, because my computer lagged 10 minutes before the due time and I just started crying (now that I think about it, I was under so much stress that i put on myself..) And it froze for so long, it was passed the due date.. (Send it as an email attachment in the end if it interest someone, but I'm not sure the prof will accept it #pray)

Hey you, who ever you are! Just a small update on my life as a first year undergrad software engineer..

Soo one thing that surprised me was that compared to cégep (s/o to my fellow Quebec's students!!) people in university are not snakes... They are genuine in their generosity. At least my friends are😊 'cause one thing I learned in cegep was that everybody wants something from you but won't necessarily give you back the favor, because it was an unhealthy competition. But in uni, it doesn't seem to be the case, at least not for now.

Something else is I don't have a lot of friends because I'm pretty shy and it comes of as mean, even though I'm the complete opposit of mean.. Yes I know I know.. But you know what, you don't need a lot of friend. Quality > quantity

I'm also having so much fun with my studies, appreciating every bit of new knowledge! So that's one thing that people seem to forget: Have fun in your learning!!

People also encouraged me to enter a society/club/association because of all the 'networking', but I decided not to, at least for this semester, just to be able to get used to uni life. Also most of the clubs/associations I'm intersted in are programmation related, and yo girl ain't feeling ready for that yet, and that is okay!

Lastly, one thing that engineering is missing is women, and even more in software/computer science! So my fellow sisters, don't be afraid or don't think that it's not the field for you just because it's a men-dominated field! Some people tried to talk me out of it and some other encouraged me to persue what I liked and growing to love!
