does anyone else find the story of cain and abel tragic not just for abel, but for cain as well?

i mean, they were brothers, they grew up hand in hand. tiller and shepherd. one raises life out of the dirt, the other puts the life back into it. they loved each other, so much that abel died, so much that cain killed him.

abel was a tragedy of a child prodigy, the golden child. he was favored chosen again and again, to the point where he was killed. he was as innocent as the livestock he sacrificed. a shepherd into the lamb. he never meant to be, he loved his brother. he loved his brother when they were kids, he loved his brother when they were offering to god, he loved his brother when he followed him into the field, he loved his brother even as he died.

cain was a tragedy of a child pushed aside. how many times had he noticed his brother getting favored? did he know he was undesired, that his effort would never be enough? cain didnt know about murder, it wasnt a thing. did he know how abel choses his sacrifices? did he see how he took the prettiest, most well kept lamb of the flock and took it to god? did he see how god favored the crimson from the lamb more than the gold of his wheat? did he lay abel out as a sacrifice? hoping that in the crimson of his brother, so perfect and good like the lambs he offers, cain would finally be enough?

I might be too AroAce for this, but why is it that whenever I see stuff about someone cheating on their partner, fictional or otherwise, it’s always more focused on the fact they had sex with (and/or dated) someone else and not that they lied to their partner?

Like I said, I’m way too Ace to understand why sex is a big deal, but lying is bad for any sort of relationship.

You can cheat in a friendship; if your friend explicitly states they don’t want you to hang out with a certain person, and you go behind their back to hang out with that person, that’s cheating.

People don’t care about their friendships enough to see it that way, but it’s essentially the same; you’re breaking the trust in your relationship with someone by purposefully lying, manipulating and/or gaslighting them to go against an established boundary in the relationship.

friendships just don’t get the same level of respect that romantic and/or sexual relationships get, so it’s okay to “cheat” in friendships. (boundaries are also not always discussed enough in friendships, so there’s a bit more leeway in “cheating”)

The betrayal is the lies and deception, not the actual act of sleeping with someone else, but I tend to see people get way more worked up about the act and not the effort they took to do it.

Also, this is a side tangent, but why do they say anyone who cheats is a horrible person, but it’s the plot of several romances? Every Hallmark movie about the city girl with her boring boyfriend who falls in love with the hometown hunk, and kisses him at some point before breaking it off with the boyfriend, that’s cheating. But it’s ok, because it’s “true love.”

Like, if you’re not in love/attracted to your partner anymore, don’t cheat on them; maybe try and communicate with them, and if you’re no longer right for each other, break off the relationship.

But also, if you’re in an abusive relationship, and cannot safely break off the relationship, absolutely do what you need to do to stay safe, and if that includes “cheating” go ahead.

I’m not saying cheating’s ok, but I also understand certain reasons why someone might. I don’t know, I’m just saying it’s a weird double standard.

I don’t know, I think I was going somewhere with this, but now I forgot. Anyways, in conclusion, I don’t understand why people care about sex and romance, and cheating is, in my opinion, more nuanced than, I think, people give it credit.
