Money is so insidious.
Never before have I wished to be wealthy like I do right now. My heart is bleeding every time I see another post, another face, another please do not scroll. I empty everything I can find into fundraisers and sim cards and organisations feeding the hungry.
I've never been wealthy. In all the ways possible in a Scandinavian welfare state, I've been poor. I've grown up hungry and without proper clothes. I've been homeless several times. But I've never wanted to be wealthy. What would I do with money, I always thought. Buy a car I don't wish to drive? Buy a house that I probably won't know how to live in? I once was gifted a lottery scratcher that was a single, final digit away from being the winner and all I remember is the feeling of stress. I don't like money. I was relieved when it wasn't there.
Rock stars fly around in private jets, rich men build rockets and force their workers to piss themselves on the line, my country's subreddits are full of people advising each other on how to become wealthier through becoming shareholders, the famous and the aristocrats waltz around in pointless fashions giving pointless interviews and here we all are on Silly, Pointless Tumblr, half of us are already begging each other for help, for just a single dollar, just anything at all, just enough to feed my dog, just enough to buy my medication, someone please save my cat.
And we're apparently the only place where the cries for help from Gaza and Sudan are even heard anymore. Across the street the owners of the new, fancy apartments with the rooftop gardens whose gentrification has caused five new dog grooming salons to open up in an area that used to be only run down mechanics and car parks, they come here to my government apartment blocks and park their expensive cars, because our parking was always too far away from any place useful to be used like this.
Those people, I see them around. Talking about terrorism and complications, talking about their political views of fiscal responsibility and moral conservatism like they know anything at all about what life is like. They look at me sideways because I'm a filthy homo. They could help but they would never. They need that money, how else would they have their next date night at that Michelin restaurant. How else would they book their next vacation and buy a second Mercedes.
I'd key their disgusting cars except I'm pretty sure they have surveillance built in, and I'm a single parent and I'm already doing my best to find any leftover cash to donate it. I can't afford a fine. But I wish I could hurt them even just a little. Make them think twice before telling anyone who'd listen about how great they're doing. We're not even allowed to have dogs here. Not that I know anyone who would have their dog groomed. We don't even go to the human hair dressers. Five dig grooming shops in an area that I can walk across in twenty minutes.
I hate it.
I want the wealthy to suffer poverty. To feel hunger at night. To be afraid of the end of the month. I want them to feel what it is like to have their rent go up further than their income reaches. I want them to know the desolation having nowhere to go. No home and no family.
I want politicians to become powerless. I want them to become as irrelevant as the victims of their ruthless campaigning. I want them to yell in vain at a world that no longer listens.
I want open borders. I want all of us to weather the coming climate together, I want us to share what we have.
I want Palestine to be free. I want it's people to be compensated and apologised to somehow. I want their olive trees to grow back. I want Zionists to become a ridiculed minority again. I want Jews to be allowed to exist outside of some political nightmare state that claims to speak for them.
I want corporations to become illegal. I want previous metals and whatever else is causing people to be murdered and tortured to be respected and reused. We have enough smart phones, we have enough. I'm ashamed to admit I don't even know what the rest of the current conflicts are really about, because I'm so heartbroken all the time that I'm afraid for my health if I keep reading. I want the world to be safe for Muslims. I want us to get over the stupid, evil racism that's been driving us to murder and maim and torture and starve and kidnap and
I want it to stop. I can't accept that wanting it to stop is "too naive" or "too utopian." I don't care. Let me be childish then, and say that I want it to end. The suffering, the cruelty. I want a just world where everyone is given food and shelter. I want a world where no one gets to just claim the right to hurt their fellow humans.
I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that so many have already been killed for pointless reasons and unfair wars. I'm sorry that the protests aren't listed to (yet!) I'm sorry that people feel allowed to turn a blind eye. I feel sick to see my country folk pretend like they don't know anything. I'm sorry I don't have the money to help everyone reach their needs, and I'm sorry I'm centering myself in this rant that my one follower will see. Like my heartbreak matters. Like my exhaustion is worth mentioning.
But I refuse to believe that this is how it will be. I refuse a future where not everyone is allowed to have a happy, safe life. I refuse it. There is too much good in this world. We will be heard. Our childish dreams will be made more and more real until the selfish forget that they ever denied them. We will keep fighting and building and sharing until everyone is cared for, until justice is done. We will learn to take care of each other and the ground that carries us. We will learn to become what we want. We will have clean air, clean water, clean food.
There's been enough pain. Something's gotta give. It's been paid for a thousand times already. This planet is too mathematically unlikely to just end up empty. Injustice is a losers game. Because I said so.
#rant#personal#fuck the rich#fuck politics#no more borders#no more wars#give me Utopia#i don't care about imaginary resources#fuck your wallet

Shallow.
Another for the Phic Phight 2021! 4,596 words. Rated T for mean girl shit.
FFN || AO3
Danny finds out why Paulina and Sam actually hate each other. Prompt by Ozone.
I had actually been planning on writing this before it was a Phic Phight prompt, and had even started writing it already! I refuse to believe that Sam would just hate a girl for no reason.
The "Danny and Sam meeting in detention in 7th grade" is a nod to Myaibou's The Lunch Club. I love that being the way the trio met. This author has a lot of other great fics too, I highly recommend!
-------
“So I’m thinking about organizing a rally against police violence. Would you guys want to join?” Sam asked her two friends at lunch. She was poking at her salad.
“Yeah! Something I’ll actually want to do!” Tucker exclaimed, forcing Sam to fist bump.
“Sweet. How about you Danny?”
“Yeah, I’m in,” Danny popped a fry into his mouth and grinned.
“Awesome! Okay so, I was thinking next weekend at the park. We can make flyers and posters and make an event on social media to get people interested. Would you mind doing that Tucker?” Sam pulled up her checklist on her phone.
“Huh? Yeah sure. Remind me later.”
“Danny, do you think we could maybe have a short appearance from Phantom? I feel like having a celebrity of sorts would really get people excited,” Sam continued. After no reply from Danny, she glanced up at her two friends, noticing they were distracted once again by Paulina. Sam rolled her eyes. “Danny?”
“Uh huh. Sure.”
Sam let out a sigh of frustration. “We could even reveal your secret, make a huge event out of it.”
“Yeah, yeah. I feel you,” Tucker replied.
“And then I can jump off the roof in a pink tutu…” Sam added.
“Sounds good,” Danny sighed and rested his head in his hand.
“Then I’ll mud wrestle my parents in a floral bikini.”
“Yeah that sucks,” Danny replied again.
Sam just groaned, “You guys aren’t even listening to me!”
Danny glanced at her. “Yeah we are! Something about a uh….poster? Environment thing?”
Tucker finally looked at her as well. “Did you say something about you wearing a bikini?”
“Argh! Stop staring at Paulina for two seconds please!” She drummed her fingernails on the table impatiently.
“Wait, Sam’s wearing a bikini? But it’s winter!” Danny replied to Tucker’s comment.
Sam let out a small scream and started packing her stuff up. “Ugh, forget it!”
Noticing Sam was about to leave, Danny put a hand on her shoulder to sit her back down. “No no no, don’t leave Sam! You have our attention.”
“Really? Because it seems to me you two were just making a puddle of drool that would still be less shallow than Paulina.” Sam glared at the girl in question, who was clinging to Dash and trying to get his attention as Kwan put forks up his nose to look like a walrus.
“Jeeze, lay off. What’s your problem with Paulina?” Tucker turned back towards his friends and sipped at his energy drink. It had been a long night capturing Technus.
“Yeah, you just hated her from day one. She didn’t do anything! She literally just moved here,” Danny added.
“No, she didn’t. You just never noticed her until other guys started to. And I have my reasons.” Sam stabbed at her salad harshly, as if she was making a Paulina voodoo doll out of her food.
“Well then, why? Why do you hate her?”
“I don’t just hate her. She hates me too. It’s a mutual hate,” Sam growled.
“Okay but why?” Tucker chimed in.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Sam said shortly.
“Well either tell us or stop complaining,” Tucker replied.
Danny made a grab for her fork and held it away from her. “Danny, give me my fork back.”
“No,” Danny said stubbornly. “We’re your best friends! You can tell us anything. And trust me, I’m desperate to hear your reasoning.”
Both boys stared her down. She would have stabbed both of them with her fork if she still had it. She was pissed. But then Danny’s stare down turned into his puppy dog eyes and pout, which she knew he knew would get her to cave. Damn him. She turned her focus to Tucker so she could keep her angry face, but he too started pouting. Sam hated when they ganged up on her like this. She could usually save face when Tucker pouted. Danny’s big sad questioning eyes almost always swayed her. She could get either of them to cave with a glare or, in very rare cases, her puppy dog eyes. It was so rare that it would immediately get her what she wanted. But when two of them ganged up on the remaining member of the trio, it was difficult to say no.
Sam let out a long groan. “Fine. If you can actually focus and not stare at the queen bee for two minutes, I’ll tell you.” As soon as that was out of her mouth, both boys stood up straight and focused all their attention on her, eager to finally hear why the two girls despised each other so much. “And we will never bring this up again. What I tell you doesn’t leave this table.” Both boys nodded unanimously. “Okay, remember those few years from 3rd grade to 6th grade when I went to a different school?” The boys nodded again. “Well, I never really told you guys why I was only there for a few years. You obviously know the part about my parents wanting to send me to a different school after that fiasco with the lunch box in 2nd grade, but they forced me to go to a private school. In 5th grade, Paulina moved to Amity Park from Florida. And...ugh, this is gross...We…” She trailed off and muttered something the boys didn’t catch.
“What?” Both boys pressed.
“We...used to be...friends,” Sam choked the words out.
Both Danny and Tucker’s eyes widened, eyebrows raised in complete surprise. They thought Paulina moved here in 9th grade, but of course if she went to the private school, they never would have seen her. They definitely didn’t hang out in the same places or with the same people. Hell, they forgot Sam existed until she went back to public school again in 7th grade with her goth look. Before that, they weren’t even friends with Sam, just classmates. Then all three of them had to spend a week in detention with each other, they became friends, and the rest is history. Sam’s break in private school was the reason they were still learning some things about her, like her playing video games and her family being wealthy. It was shocking that her and Paulina were friends once upon a time, because now the girls wouldn’t even talk to each other or acknowledge each other.
“What happened?” Tucker asked in dismay.
“Armageddon.”
“Class, please welcome our new student Paulina Sanchez. She moved here all the way from Florida!” Mrs. Wellington clapped her hands, motioning for her students to do the same. “Miss Sanchez, there is an empty seat behind Miss Manson. Miss Manson, please raise your hand.”
Sam Manson raised her hand as she studied the new girl. She seemed nice enough. She couldn’t tell if they had the same style or not because they had to wear uniforms, but she had a pretty butterfly clip in her long wavy hair. Paulina had some pink lipgloss on and already looked like she was….developing - even at 10 years old. She smiled at Sam and took her seat behind her.
Once the teacher started getting their math lesson started, Paulina whispered in Sam’s ear. “I love your bow, it’s so pretty!”
Sam smiled and glanced back at the new girl. “Thanks! I like your clip. Do you want to sit with me and my friends at lunch today?”
“Yes please! I don’t know anyone in this weird town.”
“I’m Samantha. Samantha Manson.” She stuck her hand out.
Paulina, with a perfect manicure, shook Sam’s hand. “Nice to meet you.”
For the entirety of 5th grade, Sam and Paulina had become nearly inseparable. They played with Paulina’s large dollhouse when they got together after school, they skipped rope and chanted nursery rhymes at recess, and braided each other’s hair at lunch. There weren’t many kids at the private school, for it was very exclusive...and expensive.
That fact had been Pamela Manson’s primary reason for sending her daughter to that school. Public school was turning her sweet daughter into a barbarian. Fighting with boys at school? Well, considering the boy threw up in her lunch box, the fight was almost justified. Almost. The Mansons were disgusted that the teachers would allow that to happen. Samantha had only been in public school in the first place due to her grandmother’s persistence. Ida Manson insisted public school would be better for their little Sammykins. She would meet more people that way. Reluctantly, Pamela and Jeremy agreed. Although the Mansons were furious at first that their little girl had gotten in trouble, they were eventually delighted because they now had an excuse to send Samantha to a better and more dignified school.
Pamela Manson adored Paulina. She was glad her daughter had finally picked a proper friend. Samantha had been getting a little too close with those two boys who always riled her up. Folten or Fenton or something. Foley? She didn’t care to remember, her daughter wouldn’t be seeing them anymore. Paulina wore pretty pink dresses and was always groomed properly and well behaved. She had hoped Paulina would be a better influence on Sam after those boys. Plus, Pamela loved outings with the Sanchez family. She and Isabella had frequent mother-daughter outings with their girls.
Everything was perfect until 6th grade started. A few weeks into that first semester, all hell broke loose.
“Hey guys,” Sam sat down at her lunch table, joining Paulina and a few other girls she had become friends with.
“Hey Samantha!”
“Samantha, Kylie was just telling me how pretty my hair is!” Paulina bragged.
“It is lovely,” Sam commented, opening up her lunch box and discarding the meat products her mom had the butler slip in. Paulina had originally thought it was a little odd that Sam did that, but when her friend explained it was because she loved animals so much, Paulina agreed that they were too cute to eat but kept on with her own ways.
“I know!” Paulina chirped.
“Wow, Samantha. Your hair is really pretty too!” Kylie reached out a hand and started running her fingers through Sam’s almost hip-length black hair. “Oooh and it’s so soft!” A few other girls joined Kylie in playing with Sam’s hair.
“Thanks,” Sam laughed. She really didn’t care, but she found it amusing that her friends were so enthralled by her hair.
“What about mine?” Paulina pouted, upset the attention wasn’t on her anymore.
“Yours isn’t as soft, but it’s still nice!” One of the girls replied, still enamoured with Sam’s raven locks. “Is this your natural color?” Sam’s nod was followed up with coos of approval.
Paulina crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her eyes at the other girls. Sam was her best friend. She loved Sam. But Sam didn’t care about that kind of stuff. Paulina did! She was used to getting more attention from people. Paulina was the first in their grade to get a bra, she liked to flirt with boys, and she loved being pampered. When outside of school, Sam didn’t really dress up anymore. She would just wear dark t-shirts and shorts and put her hair up into a ponytail. She wouldn’t even let Paulina put flowers in her hair to make her more girly! Instead, Sam scolded her for killing a living thing and disrupting nature or something stupid like that.
After Sam and her family had taken a short visit to one of the industrial plants they owned, she hadn’t been the same. Sam had told Paulina that there was trash in all the pretty trees and flowers, and then Sam had done some research and found out that her parents’ friends’ companies tested on animals, polluted the environment, and had poor labor conditions. She was really upset about it and thought things were wrong, and Paulina would just politely agree with her. She liked that Sam loved the earth and stuff, but then it started to get really annoying.
Sam started reading these weird books after their class learned about Edgar Allan Poe. Stuff about magic and mythology and the occult. Even though Paulina and the other girls thought it was weird, Sam was still their friend. Kind of. Paulina was going to drop Sam until she had been invited to the Manson mansion and found out just how rich Sam’s family was. That kept Sam in good standing with Paulina. Despite the weird factor, Sam was still admired. Sam got better grades than Paulina. Sam got attention from boys because she would still play kickball in her jumper and didn’t mind getting dirty. Sam’s family had a bigger house than Paulina’s. Sam’s family had more money. Sam’s hair was softer, longer, prettier than Paulina’s.
As Paulina watched her friends doting on Sam, taking turns to play with Sam’s hair, she realized she was a little jealous. No matter how hard Paulina had flaunted herself and tried to show up Sam, she felt like Sam always won in the end. It was extra annoying because Sam was so nice. Everyone loved her. Everyone wanted to hang out with her. Sam was a lot of things Paulina tried so hard to be, and Sam had done everything so effortlessly. It wasn’t fair!
They were both very dominant girls, and Paulina realized there wasn’t enough room for the both of them. She needed to prove to everyone, to herself, that she was better and she was in charge of things. Filthy rich or not, Paulina began to ice Sam out and Sam didn’t even seem to notice! After trying and failing to persuade the other girls to drop Sam, she realized she would need to take more drastic measures. She could make people not like Sam anymore. She could make her hair prettier than Sam’s. Sure, it was petty and low, but petty and low is what teenagers are.
Paulina ignored the lesson and stared at the back of Sam’s hair. It was so shiny and looked so soft. Sam smiled as she felt Paulina pulling her long black hair onto her desk, blocking Paulina’s view of her textbook. Paulina pretended to play with Sam’s hair as she dug something out of her purse. After a few minutes, Paulina had shoved several sticks of gum in her mouth, chomping spitefully as she stared at Sam’s hair. Paulina silently spit the large wad of gum into her hand and she carefully placed it on top of Sam’s hair. Furiously but nonchalantly slamming her text book shut with Sam’s hair and the gum still in the middle of it. That should get the gum thoroughly stuck in her hair. Paulina grinned to herself as she tried opening the textbook again, the pages stuck to the hair and gum mess she had made.
When the class all stood up to go to lunch, Sam cried out as Paulina’s textbook yanked her head back. “What?” Sam tried to figure out what was going on, looking behind her.
“Oh my god!” A boy in the class yelled, which caught the attention of the rest of the class, causing them to start yelling as well. The teacher scrambled over to see what was wrong, trying to get Sam’s hair out of the textbook.
“Ow!” Sam yelled and glanced back at Paulina, who pretended to be shocked as she covered her mouth with her hands.
“Oh no Samantha! I’m so sorry, it was an accident!”
Tears welled up in Sam’s eyes as the situation got progressively worse. The teacher told all the kids to go to lunch as she worked on Sam’s hair in the classroom alone. It was no use. The teacher grabbed some scissors and began cutting as low as she could. “I’m so sorry sweetie.”
Sam sat there furiously, eyes full of tears. She knew Paulina had done that on purpose. Paulina had been meaner to her lately and they weren’t allowed to have gum in class! She reached back and felt her choppy hair that now landed a little past her shoulders. When the class had returned from lunch, they were all gasping and pointing at Sam’s hair.
Though the teacher had given Paulina a detention and made her pay a fine to replace the textbook, Sam didn’t feel that was a fair punishment. The teacher had sent Sam home and apologized profusely to Pamela Manson, who had called the school screaming and demanding the teacher be fired. Sam’s hair had to be cut even shorter to even it out; it now sat about an inch or so above her shoulders.
“Oh yeah, that’s pretty shitty,” Danny commented as Sam finished the story.
Tucker nodded his head in agreement. “Yeah that’s pretty low.”
Sam sighed as she ran her hand through her hair. She had kept it short so Paulina wouldn’t get the chance to mess with it again. “That’s not the end of the story.”
Tucker and Danny exchanged a look as she continued.
Sam had stopped going near Paulina after that, but she still hadn’t forgiven the girl. Her mom, though angry at Paulina, told Sam to just leave it alone. Like hell Sam was going to let her get away with this. At lunch the next day, she snuck an innocent little worm on Paulina’s lunch when she wasn’t looking. Paulina of course screamed and caused a commotion, easily pointing the finger at Sam. Teachers had no proof Sam did anything, so they just got Paulina a new lunch and told her to calm down.
Pranks and nasty incidents just escalated after that, until Paulina had done something so terrible it got Sam expelled.
Paulina had a crush on Ricky (ironically no relation to Lunch Box Ricky) and Ricky was chatting away happily with Sam about some comic book. Paulina was already over all the pranks: spiders in her purse, “accidentally” ruining her new shirt...Sam had been careful to not leave behind too much evidence so she never got in trouble. Paulina wasn’t as clever and had to serve a few detentions. And now, Sam was trying to steal her new boyfriend away from her! She knew she needed to not only win this war, but completely end it. And fast.
Sam had been called into the office the next day. Her parents were also called in to meet with the teacher, vice principal, and principal. Apparently, there were some naked pictures of Sam floating around the school, which was against their code of conduct. As much as Sam explained that wasn’t her and that Paulina was just trying to get back at her, her parents were threatening to send her to a boarding school and she would be suspended for the rest of the year. When Sam tried to confront Paulina about everything, Paulina admitted getting Ricky, who was in yearbook and owed her for letting him get to second base, to poorly photoshop some images together and make it seem like Sam had taken naked photos of herself. Though some kids backed Sam up and validated that Paulina had in fact done that on purpose, Sam ended up getting expelled for punching Paulina square in the face. Paulina said she wanted a nose job anyway. Plus, the stuck up bitch had stuck gum to the side of Sam’s head AGAIN, forcing Sam to shave half of her head.
More kids came forward about the feuding girls as Paulina continued to spread rumors about Sam being a freak and pretending to be rich when she wasn’t. Paulina was so shallow; she only cared about looks and popularity and money (and got the rest of the students at the school on board with being snobby and stuck up) - she showed no remorse for treating her former best friend, who kindly helped her gain her footing in Amity Park, the way she did.
The Mansons eventually learned the truth of what happened and cut off all ties with the Sanchez family after having a huge screaming fit over the phone. Though the school had apologized and said Sam could return to school, the damage had already been done and her parents never forgave the school. Sam and her grandmother had convinced her parents that she could go back to public school for 7th grade. Her parents had continued to force their daughter to go back to the way she was before all of this happened, but Sam just continued to pull away from them. She became spiteful and grim, and had a really hard time trusting anyone after that.
“And that’s why I never told you guys about my wealth and why you knew so little about me. I didn’t trust people anymore. It just seemed like people would only talk to me because they knew who my family was. I mean, we didn’t just get rich off of toothpicks. We have an empire.” Sam finished quietly. Then, she gave a small smile. “But I know now that I can trust you guys. We’ve been through so much in such a short amount of time. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade you guys for anything. I’d rather have two great friends than fifty so-called friends who only liked me for shallow reasons. Plus, after I decked Paulina, I was kind of blacklisted.” Her smile widened, pride beaming through.
“Wow. Sorry Sam, we didn’t know.” Danny rested a hand on her shoulder comfortingly.
“I know.” Sam rested her hand on Danny’s, causing both teens to go a little pink in the face.
“Wait wait wait. So you’re telling me there’s nude photos of you somewhere?” Tucker leaned his elbows on the table and clasped his hands together.
Sam rolled her eyes. “No, moron. They were photoshopped. I mean the skin tone didn’t even match, I don’t know how the school thought that was real. I think they were just so shocked anything like that could happen with 6th graders.”
Danny’s face turned more red at the thought of nude photos of Sam existing somewhere, fake or not. He was angry that someone would try to hurt Sam that way, but he was more embarrassed of himself because he was now picturing his best friend naked. His hand suddenly felt hot on her shoulder and he yanked it away quickly with Sam shooting him only a questioning look. He grumbled something under his breath and scooted his chair so his lap was more under the table. Now was not the time.
Tucker snorted. “Amateurs. I was better at photoshop when I was 5 years old.”
Sam laughed. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. Anyway, I guess Paulina’s parents switched her to public school for 9th. I guess the private school didn’t have a cheer squad or something,” Sam shrugged. “When I saw Paulina show up here on the first day of school, I was honestly shocked and a little terrified. Before anything could get out, I cornered her and we swore to never acknowledge that we even knew each other and to stay away from each other. I tried giving her benefit of the doubt, hoping she changed, but then she set up and blew off Danny at the dance to make a jab at me-”
“What?!” Danny exclaimed. “That’s why she ditched me?!”
Sam ignored him and continued, “and I just realized she would never change. She was always going to be shallow and petty, but I would let her start fresh at Casper as long as she stayed far far away from me. I’m too exhausted to care anymore. But yeah, people stopped hanging out with me and started calling me a freak, especially when I became goth. That’s why I hate it when my parents try to push pink and girly on me, it reminds me of that time. It was pretty lonely and I was starting to get self-destructive, until you guys came along.” She smiled softly at them. “You guys saved my life.”
Both boys had their jaws dropped, completely unaware that there had been that huge of a backstabbing backstory that clearly affected Sam way more than she cared to admit.
“You were hurting yourself?” Danny’s voice sounded broken. Sam was so strong now. He never would have thought that she could have killed herself before he even got to meet her. He was suddenly very glad he started talking to her in detention back in 7th grade.
Sam nodded. “Yeah, I kinda hate that I did that. I promise I’m better now. Between you guys and a lot of therapy, I feel better about myself than I ever have. It’s stupid,” she added, “because I really did find myself because of all she did to me, so in a way I should thank her…”
“Uh, no. I’m surprised you haven’t killed her yet. Especially after she tried stealing Dan-” Tucker shut his mouth after he received a swift kick to the shin. Apparently now was not the time to tease Sam about her crush on Danny.
“Yeah. You’re really so kind, Sam. You have a good heart. I know I would have handled that situation a lot worse than you did,” Danny disclosed.
“True. Our Sammy has a soft spot after all.” Tucker huffed as he received another kick for calling her by the nickname he knew she hated. Only Danny could get away with that one.
“Shhh. You’ll tarnish my reputation,” Sam said in amusement.
The bell rang and students in the cafeteria all stood at once, cleaning their tables and making their way towards their next class. When Paulina passed their table, Danny grimaced.
“I can’t look at her the same anymore,” Danny remarked.
Tucker nodded, “Same, dude.”
“Guys, please. This is all as much of a secret as Danny’s identity is, okay? I don’t want that drama coming back. I get revenge in my dreams. Just let her be, it’s not worth it.” Sam threw her spider backpack over her shoulder.
Tucker glanced at Danny before smirking. “Aww, Sam. Too good for this world. Too pure.”
Danny threw an arm around Sam’s shoulder as they walked to their next class. “Such a cinnamon roll.”
Sam groaned at the boys, “Stooooopppppp!” Tucker caught up to them and tried giving Sam a noogie, but his hand was slapped away swiftly. “No. None of that.” She pointed her finger sternly at him. Her head suddenly snapped towards Danny, who was smiling innocently despite the little tug he gave to her ponytail.
“Don’t worry, Tuck. Sam would never hurt us. She’s a softie inside, like a marshmallow.” Danny laughed as she shot him a look.
“I’m plotting both of your murders in my head, just so you know,” Sam grumbled.
Danny’s arm tightened around Sam protectively, pulling her a little closer as Elliot walked up to them.
“Hey Sam, I-” Elliot’s eyes widened as she pulled out a switchblade from her pocket and pointed it towards him. “Never mind!” He scurried away quickly, slipping in the process.
Danny stiffened and Tucker stared nervously at the knife. “Do you always carry that thing around?”
Sam smiled sickenly sweet, “Still soft?” Tucker shook his head. “That’s what I thought.” She closed the blade and shoved it back in her pocket, smiling because their teasing did cheer her up.
Danny gave her a soft squeeze before removing his arm as they entered the classroom. “Only the people who earned it get to know the real Sam, the one with the kind heart who’s also tough as nails. Right?”
Sam smiled back at Danny, “Exactly.”

Astrid regretted ever stomping up those stairs to Tom’s bedroom. She regretted challenging him to make a move. She regretted letting him have his way with her. In the moment, it seemed right. Maybe if they slept together again, they’d find an incompatibility, especially now that the air of tropical mystery had dissipated and left in its place two broken flesh-and-blood people.
How wrong could she have been?
Now it was amplified, deeper, hotter, engulfing.
Only two weeks for whatever this fire was to fizzle?
It wasn’t, as the Brits say, bloody likely.
And here she was, smack dab in the position she didn’t want to be in; no matter how tangentially her current association with her mother, the family business, and Hollywood was, being connected to Tom in this way presented too many problems to even consider at this point. And fucking him—
“Astrid, are you even listening to me?”
Astrid jumped from the intrusion, letting out a slight squeak. She blinked hard and turned in her spot to look at her sister, who stood in the middle of the furnished but unoccupied flat. “Sorry?”
“Are you okay?” Tilde asked. “You’ve been spacey after the dress shop— and I’m just worried.”
“You don’t need to worry.”
“Let me worry,” she begged. “Let me be the big sister I never got to be.”
Astrid laughed ruefully. If only she could actually talk with Tilde about Tom. She wouldn’t understand, or at the very least, it could pose some very difficult situations in the coming days with the wedding right around the corner. But, Astrid guessed, Tilde meant the other elephant in the room... Astrid being the elephant, and their mother being a Class A narcissist. Because there was absolutely no way Tilde would know about what had happened at Tom’s home...
“It’s too late for that, Tilde,” Astrid said. “You know I love you. I just— there’s no changing her.”
Tilde grumbled and glided over to the couch in the living room. She dropped down on top of the cushions, barely displacing the pillow stuffing with her slight ballet-formed frame. “I should have never allowed her to do all this. I should have done it on my own, it’s not like Jim and I are so hard up. But I thought...”
Astrid held up a hand to stop her sister and sat on the couch more gingerly than Tilde, measuredly, so as not to displace any stuffing in the overstuffed couch, either. Something her mother had taught her, after all: If you’re not going to put in effort to look like a lady, you can at least act like one.
God, even that memory still hurt, down to the marrow in her bones.
“But you did.” Astrid shrugged and laid her head on the back of the couch. There, she sighed.
The sisters sat in silence for some time, listening to Duchess rooting around the flat for something to chew on. When the pug found nothing, she eventually jumped up onto the couch and snuggled into Tilde’s lap.
Astrid cleared her throat. “It’s not all Mom, either. I’m just tired from jet lag and getting everything together for the house party.”
And sleeping with the Best Man. She was pretty sure she’d read a romance novel or a hundred about this situation once. Did that make her a cliché?
“Oh, I meant to ask,” Tilde interjected. “How did that go? Tom was a total tool last night and I was worried about today.”
Astrid licked her lips subconsciously; she could still taste the sugar left by a bite of tiramisu Tom had given to her on a fork. If she concentrated hard enough, she was sure she could still taste the salt of his skin mixed in with it. She could certainly feel the tight muscle in her thigh that pulled every time she shifted, from the way he’d bent it and held it firmly in place as he’d had his way with her.
Frankly, it was a miracle they’d accomplished anything after they ended up in bed. But, she supposed, that was the weirdest part about the whole afternoon. They got out of bed, dressed without speaking and just... worked on what they needed to for the party. There was no discussion. No arguing. Tom stayed a respectable distance from her; she wasn’t sure if she had really wanted him to do it again, over and over, until they were both exhausted. They ate lunch quietly, they got everything organized and packed into his Land Rover, then Tilde showed up and they bade farewell, like it was something they did every day.
Nothing more was said about Hawaii, or a relationship, or lies, or having this end in two weeks. He seemed to be ignoring the topics all together, likely in the misguided belief that if he didn’t bring it up, then everything was fine. She ignored them because discussing WHY she refused to become a true part of his life was too painful.
Astrid pursed her lips and closed her eyes again. Isn’t that what she told him she wanted, though? To feel worshipped and then go about their lives, like nothing happened? Ignore all the elephants and enjoy the sex. No emotion, only sex. He was just following her demands, his need too great to put the brakes on their interlude in his bed.
The problem was that she did want more with him. She wanted emotion and relationships and rainbows and butterflies. When she had thought of him as some wealthy businessman she might once again bump into while visiting London, this had been possible. She had, after all, imagined a reality over the last eighteen months that included falling in love with him and living a life together.
But he wasn’t a businessman. He was an actor. He ran in circles she just couldn’t stomach anymore.
“It was fine. We finished everything and packed it all into his Land Rover for the drive up to Cliveden,” Astrid finally said. “The costume deliveries will be there when we arrive.”
“This really has gotten out of control,” Tilde said. “Part of me just wants to run to the register office and get it over with.”
Astrid shook her head violently. “You do that, and I’ll flip the fuck out. I put too much work into this.”
Tilde laughed. “Scared you, huh?”
“I’m serious, Tilde,” Astrid said, lightly smacking her sister’s thigh. Duchess popped her head up, and thinking it was an invitation for her, came over to her aunt. Astrid cuddled the dog close to her chest, breathing in her freshly bathed fur.
“She likes you,” Tilde said.
Astrid kissed Duchess’ head. “Small children and dogs, apparently.”
Tilde chuckled softly before letting out a long sigh. “I bet she would really like it if her Aunt Astrid were around more.”
“Aunt Astrid is a teacher and never has any time,” she replied directly to Duchess. Duchess reached for the hand that had stopped petting her and touched it with her paw. Her imploring buggy pug eyes asked Aunt Astrid for more.
Tilde huffed, but said nothing more for a long time. Then she cleared her throat. “How do you like the flat, anyway?”
“It’s nice,” Astrid confirmed. In fact, it was nicer than “nice.” This flat looked like one of those staged ads in a real estate magazine with lots of recessed lighting, soft gray colors, top-of-the-line furnishings and a ton of space.
“We’re trying to decide if we’ll sell it or keep it as an investment property,” Tilde replied. “It’s kind of a pain in the ass as a rental property, though.”
Astrid nodded. “You could just give it to Dad’s company to manage.”
Not that doing so was a great option, either.
If Astrid saw her mother irregularly, she saw her father even less. After their separation, he spent time in Las Vegas developing a new casino concept and then, when Astrid graduated from UNLV, moved his business operations permanently back to Sweden. Still, though, the relationship with her father was better than it was with her mother, simply by virtue that he was never around and didn’t have an opportunity to find the weaknesses in her armor like her mother. Tilde rarely spoke about either parent, but Astrid was certain their relationship was similar.
Tilde sat up and turned to look at Astrid seriously. “Or you could move into it.”
“Excuse me?” Astrid said, her heart skipping a few beats, from a sudden surge of anxiety and... something else.
“I’m serious, Astrid,” she said. “We don’t see each other enough and I want to spend time with you and make up for all those years we were apart.”
This wasn’t just some passing fancy. Astrid could see that as plain as day on Tilde’s face. Her sister was determined to convince her to move to London. But for what? She had no support system other than Tilde and James... and her career... well, that was back in Las Vegas.
Not that Las Vegas itself was the most amazing place to live and work.
“I’d never see you anyway,” Astrid argued. “You’re always rehearsing, or preparing to rehearse, or performing. And god knows James is going to be busy doing whatever.”
“Yeah, about that...” Tilde said, trailing off quietly. She picked at the dog hair on her sweater for a few seconds, then slowly looked back at Astrid. “I’m retiring at the end of this season.”
“What?!”
Tilde shrugged. “James and I want a family, and if I wait until it’s a ‘good time,’ it’ll never happen because of our schedules. And really, it’s getting harder and harder to come back from injuries and such. I just... I need a long break from being a performing ballerina. I don’t have the fire I once had, the same will to fight for every goddamn role.”
Astrid simply nodded. This was huge news. Ballet was Tilde’s life. She’d been doing it since she was a little girl, had impeccable skill and training and talent for it. The joke was that Tilde had come out of the womb in pointe shoes.
Which wasn’t that far from the truth, really. As soon as their mother could, she’d gotten Tilde into dance with the best instructors money could buy. Their mother, the failed ballerina, always lived through them. Which explained why she did not like anything about Astrid— Astrid did not have anything that would benefit her.
“Have you told Mom yet?” Astrid asked.
Tilde shook her head. “Of course not! And listen to her prattle on about how I’m a failure and she gave me so much and I’m just a terrible person? No, thank you. I’ll wait until she is permanently back in LA before I tell her.”
Even though Tilde had not yet told anyone else, it somehow eased the tension in Astrid’s shoulders knowing that Tilde would be in their mother’s crosshairs for a change. Typically, that wasn’t the case; their parents always treated Tilde like the perfect golden child. Of course, Tilde had always been one of Astrid’s fiercest allies… when she could. However, since Tilde spent most of her life in London studying at the Royal Ballet from a very early age, support and camaraderie had been scarce. Now, though? Now it felt like she and Tilde could weather the storm together.
Tilde continued, “Yeah. I’m thinking about opening up a dance studio and then after the baby thing happens, if I still have the performing bug in me, then I’ll start guesting. But I’m just so excited to start having babies.”
Stopping the smile from forming on Astrid’s lips was impossible as she registered the excitement on Tilde’s face. Astrid felt the enthusiasm coming from Tilde’s corner of the couch. “I’m excited for you, Tilde.”
And she was. She truly was.
Tilde reached out and grabbed Astrid’s hand. “I’m serious, though, Astrid. We never had a great family growing up, and I see this as an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past and create the family we should have had growing up.”
“I don’t know, Til.”
“James and I have both talked about it a lot and we both agree.”
“Tilde, even if I did move here,” Astrid began, “I don’t know the first thing about teaching in England.”
Tilde nodded. “I know. But James’ parents are retired teachers. I’m sure they’d be willing to help you make heads or tails of it.”
Astrid pursed her lips and turned to stare at the dormant fireplace sitting in front of them. Duchess, who had not moved, made happy dog purr noises as Astrid massaged the tiny velvet triangles of her ears. To be fair to Tilde, Astrid had often thought of moving to London to be nearer to her, but she never thought it would happen or that Tilde would actually need or want her here. The fact that she was wanted made emotion spring to her eyes and prick at them until they watered.
But then, there was the other issue.
The really, super, ginormous issue that came in the shape of a devastatingly handsome British man she met on vacation. If she moved to London, she’d certainly be seeing him more. No clean break at the end of two weeks like she hoped.
“And, you know,” Tilde said, “London’s arts scene is stupendous. We have the hook-up. I thought you could get back into it. You can hardly do that in Las Vegas.”
Astrid snorted. “Tilde, that part of my life is over.”
“Why? You’re amazing. I remember the video you sent of your college production of Othello. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place.”
While Tilde’s appreciation for her talent warmed Astrid’s heart, it didn’t take away the sting of her mother’s actions. Astrid couldn’t even bring herself to discuss it with Tilde when it first happened, much less in the intervening eight years since the incidents that led to her total disavowal of all things acting related. Her silence on the matter, though, had finally come home to roost. First with Tilde telling Tom she was still an actor, and Tom calling her a liar because she told him she wanted nothing to do with it. And now, with Tilde staring her down imploringly. Tilde wanted answers just as much as Tom did, except for very different reasons.
Astrid could not force her suddenly leaden tongue to move in her mouth. Tilde would just have to live with not knowing the whole story, for now. Finally, she said, “If I move to London, I’m not going to be acting.”
“Well, I guess I’ll take that,” Tilde replied. “As long as you’ll still consider moving here to be with me.”
A knock at the front door startled them all, sending Duchess barking and wheezing to the door. The door opened and James popped his head inside. “Knock knock.”
“Come in!” Tilde sang back to him, jumped from her seat, and nearly leaped over the back of the couch to get to him like he was a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him squarely. For a brief, possibly irrational, moment, Astrid was jealous of her sister and the relationship she had built with James.
Which wasn’t a great feeling to have if the plan was to spend more time with them. How could she uproot her entire life— leave her students and friends— and move halfway across the globe just to be consumed by the green-eyed monster?
“Babe,” Tilde said, “tell Astrid she needs to move to London.”
James laughed and turned to look at Astrid. “Astrid… you need to move to London.”
“Thank you!” Tilde pecked his cheek and pirouetted in place until she was facing away from him. She started walking back toward the bedroom. “Let me go get my purse and we can get going.”
When Tilde was gone, and the flat was mostly silent except for more of Duchess’ puggy wheezing as she calmed, James’ smile dropped into a stony seriousness. He stepped over to her and quietly murmured, “We would love to have you here, Astrid. But I understand if you don’t want to come. The decision has to be yours, and if you decide not to move, I will handle Tilde.”
Astrid was grateful for James’ level-headedness in the situation. In the short time she’d known the man, she found that he was a gifted reader of rooms. That was why he was so good with Tilde— a steady anchor in a turbulent sea. Clearly, he understood the anxiety twisting her stomach into knots.
She set a grateful hand on his arm and squeezed appreciatively. “Thanks, James.”
“And don’t let my association with Tom cloud your judgement,” James said.
Astrid withdrew her hand like he’d burned it. Her eyes snapped up to his, then focused outward on the rest of his features and body language. She didn’t know how he knew, but he did. Tom must have told James, despite that she asked him not to.
Unless Tom had told James last night…
“How do you...” She trailed off, turning her gaze and trying to hide her blush.
“He’s my best man for a reason. We tell each other everything,” James replied. “I had hoped that your work today would allow you some time to figure things out before more of this wedding commenced and caused a problem.”
Astrid gulped. “Does Tilde know?”
James shook his head silently.
“Good,” Astrid replied. Good for two reasons, really. The first, because it confirmed for her that the invitation to come to London wasn’t Tilde playing matchmaker. The second, because she still didn’t want anybody to know about it. “Wait… how much did he tell you?”
James stared back at her, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a slight curl at the corner of his mouth. “That would be breaking the Code.”
Her face now completely aflame, Astrid bent down and grabbed Duchess into her arms. She couldn’t even look at the man anymore without feeling embarrassed. Hopefully, it would pass quickly.
“Bad news!” Tilde called from the hallway as she came back into the room. Her thumbs moved rapidly over the screen of her iPhone. “Mother decided we needed an all hands on deck dinner tonight.”
Astrid groaned. “In addition to or replacing the one tomorrow night at Cliveden?”
“In addition to,” Tilde said. “Tom can’t make it tonight because he has the cast party, and Dad isn’t even in England yet, so that’ll be the official one. Tonight is probably just more nitpicking.”
“Do we have to?” Astrid whined.
Tilde sighed heavily and dropped her phone into her purse with agitation. “Strength in numbers, dear sister.”
Her sister's proclamation made the summons to dinner no better, but Astrid and James dutifully followed Tilde out of the flat and out to the car. The only saving grace was that Tom wouldn't be there. Astrid could focus on one problem, not two.

It’s A Family Thing
Summary: A boy falls for a girl
Pairing: Reader x Ian Kildner ( fake person)
Word Count: 3847
Okay so here are something to know before you read. The teams are real but all the people fake it was easier for me with this story.
Juliette stood by a high table, wearing a stunning and elegant black dress A-line gown with a respectable but fun slit up the side, talking to a relatively wealthy seeming older gentleman. His tux was custom, hair grey, and thinking, and the date he had brought with him was barely legal to drink, showing almost all her cleavage, and was sipping her cosmo through a straw. But Juliette didn't care about any of that right now. All she cared about was convincing this man that a donation to the team's charity would be a brilliant investment.
"Mr. Mason donating to the teams' charity is not only a write-off for you with tax breaks, but it allows lots of people to see just how good you and your company are." Manson Construction was responsible for building half of Boston and rebuilding the other half. They had gone through a string of bad publicity when someone leaked rumors of the company cutting corners regarding safety protocols to the local newspapers. The stories had been proven untrue, but they had still caused doubt in the community. Mason Construction was a good company, and Juliette knew that. "Manson Construction on every banner we use when the team works with charities like Habitat for Humanity or does an event with local children's hospitals something like that could change how the community views your company," she said with a passionate and firm promise to her voice. Just as Juliette finished her speech, a loud, sharp crack of noise erupted from behind her.
Juliette's brother Jack, the youngest of her four brothers, and his girlfriend Ashley had been fighting all night. Juliette had been keeping an eye on it. Ashley was not a great girlfriend. Juliette was pretty sure Ashley was in it for the idea of dating a pro athlete, and Jack was in it cause Ashley was hot. Juliette had noticed more and more that Jack seemed done with Ashley's crap, and from the Way, Ashley was now storming out and the fact Jack wasn't going after her, he had decided to end things tonight in a public place.
Juliette turned back to Mr.Mason, who was chuckling to himself. "Your brother seems to be quiet, the unlucky fellow tonight in regards to love. But you are better than luck. You're smart, and you've got gumption, Juliette. I like the image you've given the charity, and I think it will provide great support and publicity for my business. I will send you a check tomorrow with the donation. If the team or the charity needs anything, you let me know," he said, smiling and walking away with his old wrinkled hand on his arm candy's ass.
Jules shivered in disgust as she watched arm candy giggle and kiss him on the cheek, then took a deep breathe she had done it. She had landed another massive donation for the charity.
Suddenly a large and heavy arm flopped around her shoulder, and her oldest brother Brandon was there by her side.
"Way to go, Jules. It looks like Mr.Mason was pleased with the idea of being the teams highest paying donor', he said with pride and admiration for his sister.
"He said he would send over the check tomorrow. I need a drink, and to get these heels off my feet are killing me." She laughed, walking to the bar.
Brandon was the oldest of the four brothers at the age of 33. He had retired from the league last year due to a knee injury. The team hired him as the skills coach. Brandon was always responsible. He was the boy next door with a killer smile and genuine charm. The next one down was Henry, who was 31 and was the team's new athletic trainer. He was sporty and the smartest. He wanted to be a doctor when he was younger but found a way to combine his love of medicine and learning with his love of hockey and the team he had grown up around. He immediately change to sports medicine. The third one was Eric. He was the middle one, wild and crazy. He was 28, had been on the team as a defender for four years now, and made sure everyone knew his opinion on any given subject.
Jack, the youngest of the brothers, was a sweet kid, but just that, still a kid in many respects. He had the talent and a good heart, but he needed to grow up. He was 25 and still trying to figure out many things about life but was too stubborn to listen to anyone's advice. Finally, there was Juliette, the youngest out of the five children and the only girl. She grew up tough and headstrong, just like her brothers. Her mother made sure she was balanced, though, so she had put her in dance as a little girl, and she had loved it. She still went to classes and taught little ones occasionally. Her brothers were always there in the front row to cheer her on then give her noogies after. She was 24, but most people thought she was older because of how she held herself.
All 5 of the siblings looked alike, all athletic, tall, and toned the brothers ranging in muscle definition. All five had dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. There was no denying they were family. The dark hair came from their dad, and the eyes had come from their mom. The whole family was here tonight, and Jules loved that. Everyone in the family had found a way to be apart of the team or organization in a job they loved. She loved being around her family and the constant support they gave. Her mom had started the Boston Bruins charity when her dad had been a player. She was still running it and was grooming Juliette to take over soon. Being a Bruin was a family thing. They had been born into it and loved every minute of it.
She and Brandon were standing by the bar ordering drinks when she saw out of the corner of her eye, Henry and Eric walk up.
"So, we all saw the slap that Ashley gave Jack, right?" Henry said in a cautious and questioning tone.
"Yes, the whole room heard it. Did you see where he went?" Brandon asked cautiously.
"No, but my guess would be the locker room, someone should go check on him?" Eric said, turning towards Jules.
"Yea yea yea, I'll go. Even though one of you are married and ones engaged," she said over her shoulder, walking away toward the locker room.
She found Jack sitting in his locker with a cold beer pressed to his face. head drooped down and fidgeting with his phone. "You shouldn't call her, "Jules said, pulling the drink away to check out the handprint on his face. It wasn't nearly as bad as it had sounded probably just stung. Ashley wasn't abusive, just dramatic.
"Why? Cause she slapped me?"
"No, because she gave the bartender her number about 15 mins before that happened. You made the right call. She didn't love you; she loved the status."
"I know. I just thought she was the one at the beginning. "He sighed as Jules sat next to him.
They sat there for a few minutes in silence. Jules knew he would be fine just needed someone to lean on for a bit, and sure enough, after about 10 minutes, he handed Jules his beer and stated with new energy, "There are plenty of fish in the sea. I have to find the right one, right?!" Jack jumped up and started walking to the doors.
"Yes, just please be safe and smart and maybe go home alone tonight," Jules shouted to him as he strutted out the doors.
Jules took a sip of the beer and sighed, starting to take her shoes off, enjoying the silence. When she heard the doors slam open and Jimmy Peters and his date for the evening tumbled though not breaking the sloppy kiss and handsy embrace, they were tangled in. They never noticed her as she grabbed her high heels and beer and left the room. She was in the hall on the way back, laughing to herself about the thought of giving Jimmy a hard time the next time she saw him when she heard the classic catcall whistle from behind her.
She turned to find Ian Kildern, one of the team's defensive players. He was 6'4", muscled more than the average hockey player and curly brown hair with deep green eyes. His tux was well altered; it hung perfectly on him, showing his broad shoulders and narrow waist. Ian was an excellent player, intelligent, lightning-fast, and a great leader. He was 26 and had been in the league since he was 19. The Bruins had picked him up four years ago when his contract had been up with the Tampa Bay Lighting. They were friends, but Jules was closer to other players, and usually only had a small talk with easy, polite jokes.
"Juliette Calloway, you clean up nice." He said in a semi-serious, mostly mocking tone.
"Shut up, Ian. Don't you have a date to dazzle like the rest of the team?" She said in a cheeky and light-hearted tone.
"No, actually, Kelly and I broke up last weekend."
"Oh, that's right; her name was Kelly, and I'm so sorry to hear that after a week together, you had to call quits. You must be devastated. She said with a wink. Knowing fully, he had never planned on keeping it serious. Ian didn't sleep around a lot, but he also didn't keep girlfriends long.
He chuckled, "Yeah, she was allergic to my dog." He changed the subject when he noticed the bottle in her hand, "You drinking alone - drowning your sorrows?"
"No, actually," she said in a matter of fact tone, "I was consoling my brother."
Ian's face squished up, and he sucked in a breath, "Yea, I saw - well heard the slap. Is he okay?"
"He's fine. It's his pride that's hurting more than anything, although he won't admit to it", She explained on a sigh.
"Well, I'm glad he's okay. It's tough trying to figure everything out—the balance between the game and social life. Suddenly having money and not know if women want you the status or the money. It can be a rough and bumpy ride."He said with an understanding tone.
"You sound like you have some experience, but you seemed to have figured it all out."
"I had my mistakes and issues, but the key difference is I didn't have a last name that's attached to 2 legends. Jack has a whole lot more spotlight from the league because of your dad and oldest brother. I could make my mistakes in private."
"So, you had a girl slap you in front of your entire team and about 45 VIP guests?" Jules questioned, intrigued to hear his answer.
"Okay, well, no, I never had that, but I did have a date throw up on me at an event one time. Rachel Madison, I'll always remember that name now. She hadn't eaten all day and then started doing shots of tequila. The smell was horrendous. It was like...
"Ew, I don't want to know! Please stop you win. That's disgusting." She fussed, cutting him off and giggling at the idea.
"Well, then, Miss. Date Judger where is your perfect event plus one this evening." He asked mockingly, looking around the hallway they were slowly walking down.
"Oh, I don't ever bring a date to an event that mom and I are running. I did once or twice and always felt bad that I left him standing somewhere while doing things for the event, plus dating in my life is hard. They tend to get offended when I know more about the game or jealous when I spend all my time here at the arena with you guys OR my brothers bully them, and they can't take the heat."
They had almost reached the doorway to the main lobby, where the fundraising event was when Ian's ear perked up as he heard his favorite song come on. It Had To Be You by Harry Conick Jr. He grabbed her hand put the bottle of beer in her hand on the floor, and stated softly, "It's a great song - I wouldn't want it to go to waste since you don't have someone to dance with."
Surprised by the sudden change in tone, Juliette lost her voice a little and had to clear it before asking, "Ian Kildern, are you asking me to dance?"
He slowly started to pull her into his arms, saying in a volume just barely above a whisper, "I guess I am. Are you saying yes?"
"I guess I am." She said, staring into his eyes and falling into the sway of his body. Still stiff at first, she slowly drifted further into the daze the music mixed with his look and tone of voice had caused, eventually allowing her to melt completely into him. Neither spoke to busy enjoying the moment. It had been years since she had slow danced, and she was enjoying being wrapped in someone's arms. Not just any someone, but someone who had made her laugh and had been having a good conversation with, not to mention he smelled incredible.
Ian couldn't believe he was dancing again. He had stopped bringing dates to events because it always fell short of what he wanted the evening to be. But with Juilette, he couldn't help but notice her laugh at his story or the way she had softened and molded to him as they danced. Hand in hand, his left hand rested at the small of her back, her head resting on his chest her right on his shoulder. She felt good in his arms. He felt something different for her, something he hadn't felt in a very long time. The music drifted away as the song ended, and they both stopped swaying. She pulled her head back but didn't pull away; she just looked at him, waiting for him to speak first, but Ian didn't want to say anything anymore. The smell of her vanilla perfume. The blush that had risen in her cheeks, the way she was waiting for him. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to feel those soft pink lips pressed to his. Before he knew it, she was wetting her lips and starting to lean in because she had wanted it too. Never one to miss the opportunity; he leaned in and pressed his hand into her back more, drawing her closer. They were a whisper away from each other when Jimmy and his date exploded from the locker room with laughter, pulling Ian and Jules apart. Jimmy and his date rush by them and unseen to the car in the parking lot.
"Well, it's late. I should be going," Ian said, trying to hide the disappointment that the moment was gone from his voice.
"Uh, yea, it's late. I should be finding mom to see if she needs help with anything. Good night Ian and thank you for the dance.", She said, turning and walking away before he could say or do anything.
It took a split second for him to decide, but he had made his choice he wanted her. He wanted to hold, kiss, love, and keep Juliette Calloway forever.
Ian couldn't stop thinking about that night. It had been two weeks, and all he could think about was Juliette Calloway. He had been indifferent to her before that night. Ian had had conversations with her but always just regarded her as almost one of the guys. And now he couldn't get her out of his head. The way her eyes sparkled with what he hoped was lust and something more. The way she didn't back away from him and the chemistry in the air. He needed to do something, but what?
Friday games were always Juliettes favorites. The offices were always more energetic with Friday games as everyone was excited to watch them. Juliette always ran home at lunch for an hour or so to let out Wayne, her Weimaraner, go potty and play, then she would change into her jersey and jeans. She would come back and finish up work, then relax until the game started. Today was no different. She got home and was greeted by Wayne's barks and excited tail. She let him into the backyard and threw her bag and keys on the counter. She loved her home. It was warm and welcoming with leather couches and natural linens. She left the back door open for Wayne to come back in and walked to her bedroom. She was opted for wearing Jack's jersey tonight, paired it with her black jeans and favorite booties. She was excited and happy about tonight's game. Hence, she decided on a smokey eye - if she was honest with herself, she was thinking about her evening with Ian when she had decided on it but pushed it away and assured herself it had nothing to do with him. Wayne had yet to come back in; she went in search of him to find him bathing in the sun and enjoying the day just as much as she was. She called him in, gave him a treat, and headed back to the arena. The game was at 7. The team usually came in about 5. Everyone in the offices had more than likely left for the day; she had a few more things to do when there was a knock at her office door.
"Come in," she called to the knocker.
"Wow, nice digs," the knocker said with a low and slow whistle.
Juliette's head snapped up. She had expected it to be a co-worker that was running behind or family. Her brother or mother would sometimes stop by, but she was not expecting him, "Ian...what are you doing here"?
"Though I'd finally venture up to the offices. Poke around, see what it was like having an office job", he said, waltzing into the office looking around. His eyes settled on the wall of pictures and headlines. The wall was full of pictures of her brothers and father on the ice. It captured each of their timelines, from training to playing to winning championships at all different ages. A particular photo caught Ian's eye, and Juliette got up from her desk to join him. He looked fantastic in a suit more casual than the other night but still just as perfect. It was a solid black suit with a black button-down. He had the first few buttons undone. Juliette was standing next to him when he laughed to himself, saying, " Is this .. Henry?!"
"Yea, it is. He was like 8 or 9. Mom loves that photo; he hates it", she said with a snicker. The photo was of Henry in full hockey gear. He was standing on the ice for the first game of the season when he slipped and fell. The camera had caught it just right, and all his limbs were up in the air, and his face read of terror and surprise, not know what had just happened.
"I have to have the team come see this. Look at his bowl hair cut, "He cackled.
" Don't you dare! He will kill me if he knows anyone from the team has seen it", she said hastily while grabbing his arm to stress the importance and implore him not to tell.
He felt the electricity of her touch shoot through him. He was no longer focused on the photo but her. The way she smiled and was almost begging him not to spill her secret. He paused and looked at her hand on his arm. She realized what she had done with the casual touch, she could feel his muscle move, and she was immediately turned on and pulsed for him. When she tried to retract her hand, Ian grabbed it, placing a kiss on the top, and looked at her with seductive eyes while asking, "Are you begging me, Juliette?"
Juliette felt the innuendo to her core, and her stomach filled with butterflies. But she was no rose petal. She wanted him and wasn't going to melt for him like all the other women he was used to. She moved just a few inches closer and looked at him with a devilish smile, and asked, "Do you want me to?" Something inside Ian snapped. He couldn't hold himself back any longer. The look in her eyes mixed with her smile and words had him going practically feral. He gave the hand he was holding a tug, and she stumbled into his chest, her other hand landing in between them as she attempted to catch herself. Ian's other hand wrapped around her waist. He dropped her hand and slid his into her hair at the nape of her neck. He paused for a moment, making sure he still saw the same look in her eyes. He was thrilled to see it there but even more intense. He pulled her in and kissed her.
The kiss was passionate, hard, and needy. Ian pulled ever so slightly on Juliettes hair, causing her to moan softly into his mouth, giving his tongue access to explore. He deepened the kiss, fingers digging into her side, causing more soft moans to escape her. He pulled back ever so slightly to give her air, but Juliette chased him, making him growl and start to grow hard. Juliette's heart was pounding her panties were becoming very wet. She wanted more. They both craved to feel each other skin to skin. When they both broke because they needed air, Juliette saw a softness in Ian's eyes. His thumb stroked her cheek for a split second while he started to ask her out on a date to dinner in a few nights when she cut him off, smirking, "I guess you should be going wouldn't want coach to see you be late to practice." Then with a quick kiss, smirk, and a hoard of giggles, she pushed Ian out of her office and locked the door behind her. Ian was still in shock as he walked from the office to the locker room, both from the kiss and that she had pushed him out without saying anything else. She had a fire and spirit he had certainly never seen before. Juliette slunk down into the couch in her office. She couldn't believe she had just done that. He was incredibly sexy, and she was very turned on. She could feel the blush creep into her cheeks. She knew she wanted him in more than a casual fling way. That's why she was going to play hard to get. Make Ian chase a little bit for once in his life.

not trying to shit on my gf’s family or make them seem like awful people (i have complicated and complex feelings on that front) but literally everything is for show. theyre pretty fucking wealthy but they have no extra blankets for us when we visit. they have nice vanities but they’re built wrong, and the mirrors are too far from you to be useful so instead they use a 5 inch dollar store mirror. they have a dog but dont feed/water it or get it groomed (its a dog w hair so thats absolutely necessary) or let it outside so she shits all over the house. they recently got a cockatiel and its kept in the coldest room of the house. everything is “look at this, isnt is nice/expensive/a pretty ornament on our lives”. ALL form, NO function, no warmth or comfort

Not the One You Were Meant to Find (Pt 2)
Title: Not the One You Were Meant to Find (Pt 2)
Rating: T
Word Count: 2544
Warnings: none
Pairing: Damian x fem!reader
Notes: Find Pt 1 here There’s shifting character POV here and it kind of changes the tone a bit. I’ve been trying to tweak it, but it’s still bothering me no matter what I do. So I’m just going to post it and hope it doesn’t disappoint. There are at least three more parts coming on this one.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’re sitting in the café on campus, furiously typing out a paper that you had forgotten was due the next day when a familiar owl mask was dropped down next to your coffee. You would never forget the beautiful mask, the voice that had come from beneath it’s cream colored feathers would forever be burned in your memory. You just wish you had known who it was underneath it.
Looking up, you find yourself frozen in place for a moment when you see none other than Damian Wayne standing there looking like the work of art he was. Seriously, genetics were not fair at times. You didn’t know what his mother looked like but of course Bruce Wayne would produce an heir that rivaled his own good looks. And not to mention the beauty of the other three adopted brothers.
“I don’t…” You frown and look back down at the mask, wondering what your response was supposed to be. Had it been Damian that night? You had never spoken to him before, so you had no reference point for his voice. And up until this moment, you had only seen him from a distance.
“May I sit?”
So, it was him under the mask that night. Dumbly, you nod your head and move your hands to push aside your papers strewn all over the table, so he has room. Room for what, you have no idea. You’re just looking for something to do instead of stare stupidly at his beautiful face.
“Did you know who was beneath that mask?” Shaking your head, you look at him.
“Not until you spoke just now.” The tilt of his head would have made you chuckle, if you weren’t practically shaking from nerves at the moment. He reminded you of a dog.
“Truly?”
“I’ve only ever seen you from a distance and I have never spoken to you before. How would I have known?” You watched his shoulders drop just a fraction of an inch and his body lean back into the chair he occupied. “How did you know it was me?”
“Paranoid brothers.”
“Is that supposed to make sense to me?”
“I’m thrilled it doesn’t, actually.” You just furrow your brows in confusion and look at him, hoping he’ll explain. “It doesn’t matter.”
“Okay…”
“But I cannot say I didn’t hope to figure out who was under that elegant mask.” That made your cheeks warm in response, causing you to break eye contact and look down at the mess you had on the table still. “What are you working on?”
“A paper I stupidly forgot I had due. Natural selection vs human interference in the animal kingdoms of the world.” You laugh softly, shaking your head at yourself. “The gala distracted me. Another reason why I am constantly telling my father I don’t want to attend.” You notice the slight tensing of his body when you mention your father. And though you want to ask if he knows the man, you decide to just leave it alone. He wasn’t a good subject, no matter who you were talking to.
“And what conclusion have you come to for the paper?”
“That if we have the power and resources to help, then we should. Even more so when we are the ones who have endangered them to begin with,” you tell him honestly, with conviction.
“And do you have the means to do something?”
“Not personally. Not really. At least not monetary. But I have my time.” He smiled at that and you find yourself wishing he would do that more often. It made you want to melt into a puddle at his feet. He probably got that often.
“I work with the endangered wildlife group here in Gotham. We are always looking for volunteers.”
“I have been trying to do so for months,” you shrug a shoulder and his smile vanishes, a frown replacing it and you don’t like it.
“What do you mean?”
“I applied for a spot as soon as I came to Gotham last year. But they turned me down without explanation. I volunteer at the three animal shelters instead.” You watch the frown deepen on his face and wait for him to say something in response. It takes a moment, his eyes watching you from the opposite side of the table in an almost calculating way.
“I will look into it.” That makes you frown in return. “My father’s company owns the establishment; I am being groomed to take over operations. I will look into it.” There’s a determined set to his jaw now and you can’t help but wonder what he’ll be like as a businessman when it’s time for him to fully take over.
But for now, you wave a hand and act like the situation is no big deal. “I have plenty I’m doing. I’m more just curious why I got turned down.”
The look in his eye is sort of telling and you wonder if he knows what you have begun to suspect about your father. Or if maybe the people who run the foundation currently do. But it didn’t matter in the end, or at least it shouldn’t. He was your father, not you. Being the unfortunate recipient of his genetics wasn’t your fault. But it seemed like you were to be punished for it.
“But I would like to know why it happened. Especially, when I am constantly being told we need more help.”
“Perhaps they’re just looking for specific kinds of help?” His eyebrow raised in question and you shrug in response. “Perhaps my pockets aren’t as deep as they’d like.” He has the nerve to look somewhat offended by that remark, but then schools his look back to a neutral expression.
“That would completely against everything we should be standing for.”
“That’s easy to say when it’s not a problem you have ever encountered.”
“So, you are not fond of the wealthy?” You shake your head and glance at your laptop for a moment before closing the lid and stacking your papers on top of it.
“I’m not fond of people who think they are better than others just because they have large cash reserves.”
“Hmm.”
“You don’t agree?”
“On the contrary. But I have heard many people say things like this to me, but usually they are grounded in much more hate.” He leans forward and folds his arms on the table top that has been cleared of your belongings. “But you are not angry. You are…I’m not sure the proper word to use.”
“Indignant.” That causes him to chuckle and you wish you could hear him laugh in the fullest sense.
“Not that word either. Passionate, perhaps. Convicted, even.”
“Experienced.”
“But your father has deep pockets.”
“And how do you know who my father is?” He looks slightly unsettled by the question and you remember him saying his brothers were paranoid and that was how he had figured out it was her under the peacock mask. “Brothers again?”
“They’re very good at it.”
“And what did they discover?” The frown makes its way onto his beautiful face again and you wonder if he’ll bother telling you anything. Maybe he can confirm what you’ve been suspecting but could never prove. Your father was a monster among men.
“Would you like to go for a walk?” He says instead and it catches you off guard. With a silent nod, you place your things into your bag and stand up with him. He takes your bag without even bothering to ask and allows you to walk toward the door first, only rushing ahead to open it for you before you can do it yourself.
“Thank you,” you say instead of the biting reply that your mother would expect of you. But she didn’t have to know that her daughter liked when a man treated you with respect. But you could still her the angry feminist voice of your inner mother complaining.
You follow his subtle lead down a path that winds down the outer edge of the campus, one of the quieter paths. It’s a beautiful part of the school that you have been in before, just to clear your head. But you suspect he wants to avoid as many people as possible. So, you wait until he speaks, since this was his call.
“Do you know what he does for a living?”
“I know what he claims to do for a living. But it only took me two weeks to figure out it’s a flat out lie. But I haven’t figured out what he actually does.” Looking from the path to Damian, you find him watching you. “He’s very good at covering his tracks and I’m not terribly good at this kind of thing.”
“What do you suspect?
“Nothing good. I suspect that he’s into something I would hate him for.” You stop walking when Damian stops and turns to face you fully. Tilting your head in question, you wait for him to speak. It takes a few moments, longer than you thought it would, but eventually he seems to figure out the right words.
“It’s not safe for you to be near him.” That you had already figured out. But there wasn’t much of a choice in it for you. He was still your father, even if he was a horrible person.
“I’m not exactly in a position to just move out on my own.”
“I could help. My father would help. But your father has his hands in some very ugly things and it’s only a matter of time before the Bats get their hands on him.” That was startling. The offer and the threat, or sort of threat.
“There are much bigger threats then my dad, surely.”
“All crime is a threat in this city.” You didn’t know what to say to that. He was right, of course. But that didn’t make hearing it any easier. What would happen to you if your father was taken into custody by Batman and company? Would Red Hood kill him? Had he done anything to bring it to that point.
Thankfully the sounding of Damian’s phone made it so you didn’t have to respond. He pulled his phone out and looked at the screen. Without glancing at you, he typed out a reply to whatever was on his screen before pocketing the device again and looking back to you.
“I have to go, but will you promise to consider what I said? Will you think about accepting my help?”
“Why do you care?”
Handing your bag back over to you and letting you slip the strap over your shoulder; he took a step back and looked away.
“I’m not sure yet. But I do and I would like to make sure you’re safe. If you’ll allow it of me.”
“I’ll consider it. That’s the best I can do,” you tell him softly, drawing his gaze back to you. He considers you before nodding and reaching out to brush his fingertips along your cheek bone, leaving a burning trail in their wake.
“I’ll see you soon.” You watch him walk away before turning and heading back to where you had parked your car for the day, deciding to just take your work back home instead of going back to the café you had left behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Did you do it?” Damian glanced at Tim as he made his way into the Cave and nodded, refusing to say it out loud. It had felt like a betrayal, slipping the tracker onto the bag he had held for Y/N when they had taken their walk. It left him feeling something he wasn’t quite willing to unbox.
But thankfully, Tim didn’t require verbal communication and was back to the computer. Damian watched as he pulled up the tracker and zoomed in on the location. A residential area for the middle-class. She was home. They had a starting point.
“I’m going to turn on the audio, you sure you want to hang around for this?”
“Just do it Drake. I’m not some simpering fool,” he complained, rolling his eyes at Tim’s attempt to being understanding.
“He’s just trying to be kind, Little D.” Of course Dick was loitering around. Crossing his arms over his chest, Damian just looked at Dick and said nothing. “It’s okay to not be okay with this. We all know you were against it, but we have to know for sure.”
“I know, Grayson,” he stated. “I know we have to be certain she isn’t aware of her father’s nefarious activities before we help her.” Dick watched him for a moment longer before nodding and moving to stand behind Tim and watch the screens over his shoulder. The audio came on with a crackle and a soft melody of classical music came filtering over the speakers. Of course she liked classical music.
He ignored the glance Dick gave him over his shoulder.
Over the music, the faint sound of hands on a computer keyboard could be heard and Damian knew she was probably back to working on her paper. It was a few moments longer until they heard the sound of someone calling her name. A male, deep voice that drew Damian to stand next to Dick and grip the back of Tim’s chair.
“Y/N, shall you join me at Ocelot this evening? I have some business to handle, but I would enjoy your company.” The name of one of the Wayne owned establishments in Gotham sent Tim into motion, setting up the camera and security systems to be watched now that they knew he’d be there.
“No, sorry. I have this paper I forgot to do and I need to finish it. I got a little behind thanks to that gala.” Her voice was distracted but Damian wished he could see her face. He wished he could see if she was worried or afraid.
“You know, I am starting to wonder if you even like your old man. You hardly ever spend time with me.”
“I’m just busy with classes and extra curriculars. You know how much this all means to me.”
“Hmmm.”
“Dad…”
“Of course, Princess. I’ll leave you to your paper. My reservation is at seven, should you change your mind.”
“Okay.” Silence met the sound of fading footsteps before the slight woosh of a deep breath being let out. Damian’s hand tightened on Tim’s chair in response.
“She sounds scared.”
“She is. I saw it at the gala and I saw it today. I am certain she has no idea what he’s up to, but she isn’t blind enough to not know it is bad,” Damian responded to Dick, looking over at the elder.
“Can we slip in there and get some surveillance, you think?” Tim asked distractedly, separating the audio to try and isolate any other noise that might be coming through at the moment.
“Send Hood to scout it out. He’s the best at that.” And Damian trusted Jason to know the difference between spying on the girl and spying on the father. Tim grunted in agreement as he sent off the message to Jason and waited for the other man to respond.
“Dami you up for Ocelot with me tonight then?”
“Absolutely.”

Hi I just wanted to say thanks for always writing such detailed HS analysis! It's really nice to see people look at things from every angle and try their best to make connections, especially with all the Jane and Dirk drama where some people instantly regard them as a bad person/one-note character without realizing that it's much more complicated than that. The Epilogues tried to place a focus on how they got to that morally wrong point with good intentions (for Jane at least) that some missed.
thanks yo
I mean, It has always been my opinion that throughout everything so far everyone has stayed in character, yes even Jane, I think during Homestuck proper people may have mischaracterized her as some goody two shoes blank slate “insert protagonist here” character instead of actually looking at how she raised, who she was raised by, her introduction with Roxy conversation and etc etc and the fact that she has always been very spoiled and kind of bratty at times, so I guess that behaviour taken to its worst logical extreme helped by Dirk and Gamzee’s influence no less kinda throws people off?
But really, what is evil behavior except selfishness and not caring what others think taken to the extreme? Which any person can fall into? Nobody’s like, immune to being like that, least of all someone who’s been spoiled rotten by her lifestyle like Jane has, like do people forget she was a wealthy isolated heiress of a large company she was being specifically groomed to takeover eventually?
Like, Jane is really NOT socialized to interact with other humans growing up, meaning she never really had to practice valuing other people’s needs over her own, her friendship and caring muscle never got a lot of exercise let’s say
People might have just taken that it was a narrative conceit that none of the kids had any normal friends besides eachother, but that doesn’t mean we should assume they do have unnamed friends offscreen somewhere and didn’t all grow up isolated from normal society in one form or another
But also it is in character for each of them to have no friends besides eachother
John is sort of a nerd and likely to be unpopular, Dave was abused and forced to put on a detached persona and didnt really have an environment where he could invite friends over to play games, Jade lived alone on an island with a dog, Rose lived in what looked like a middle class environment and likely had a tutor if that violin meant anything, but she had her own issues and those environments can be suffocating in their own way and perhaps filled with fake friends rather than real ones, which could have also contributed to her understanding of and bitterness with her supposedly-acting-like-a-fake (just like the rest of them) mother
Then Jake also lived alone on an island, Roxy and Dirk were isolated entirely from the rest of humanity due to circumstance and Jane is a wealthy heiress being groomed to be a cutthroat leader of a company by a non human entity who very likely did not value friendship as a needed quality in an heiress
All of these circumstances are very believable “I have no friends in real life and my only solace is the people I met online because no one thinks to monitor my online behavior because it’s the 90′s” friend making behavior, esp in Jane’s case because Roxy/Dirk used their future tech to reach out to her and Jake in the past instead of Jane seeking out companionship with them
perhaps made even more true by the fact that Joey and Jude in Hiveswap both have various unmentioned friends in their human school despite also not serving any narrative importance at this time, meaning the lack of any mention in Homestuck is not just to not distract the audience with non relevant characters but to actually mean something, like none of them actually have any actual IRL friends
So to me it’s honestly, instead of needing justification that Jane would end up this way, I actually need some justification that Jane WOULDNT end up this way, all things and details and influences considered.

The enemy of love is the truth
Pairing: Tom Hiddleston x reader
Summary: They were happy just as friends, but one morning the call from an old trauma may change everything.
Warnings: Alcohol consumption, history of drug use, mental health issues, cursing, angst, a little smut, violence.
I want to apologize in advance, I did my fare share of smut between 2008 and 2011, jesus we called them lemons back then (I'm so old, sorry) but in my native language. And even if I wasn't out of practice translating that kind of scenes is a complete nightmare, so I'm so sorry for what you are going to read.
■Part I ■ Part II ■Part III ■ Part IV ■ Part V ■ Part VI ■ Part VII ■ Part VIII | Final ■
Part VI
"She invited you to ex's wedding?" Charlie said squatting out of breath, it was almost 8:00 am and they had been running since 7:00. "Don't you think it will be a bit inappropriate? I mean what if she still have feelings for that guy? God I need to lie down"
"Technically I invited myself..." Tom started also taking big breaths "Oh don't look at me like that, she they broke up long time ago, and even if she is not over him she would need support there, isn't that right Bobby??" He knelt to pet his dog, who looked at them puzzled by how tired they seemed to be.
"So, when is the big day?" He said finally standing up.
"Saturday, but apparently we are going to a small diner on friday night, the whole event is in a Hotel in West Yorkshire, and I don't feel like driving four hours in the same day"
"If I don't know you better I would say you're a brilliant bastard" he said choking out a laugh.
"Why?"
"Nice romantic hotel in the country, the emotional vulnerability of seeing your ex getting married, the comfort of the nice blue eyes of a loving friend" he said making and exaggerate gesture to Tom's face "But is you so ai assume you won't even share a room platonically"
"You are completely out of your mind" he said laughing "although it is a nice place, look" He showed him the electronic invitation where both bride and groom smiled to each other in front of the hotel.
"Is that the guy? Well she certainly had a type" he said studying the picture "I mean if he were older or a bit more fit he would look just like you" Tom look at the picture again not finding the resemblance "I'll tell you something if you guys finally do hook up could you wait until March to tell people? I said 3 years and 1 month and Zawe said 3 years exactly and I don't feel like letting her win."
"Do you really have a betting pool about us? Don't worry, I wouldn't tell you anything even of something happens" he said with a chuckle and they continued their run.
On friday at 3:00 p.m. he showed up at Y/N's place, with Charlie's words still resonating in his head, he found her in a beautiful burgundy off shoulder column cocktail dress and black heels, making this the third time he ever saw her in a dress, it was a big difference from the usual sneakers and hoodies, not a bad one but he couldn't help a bit of jealousy thinking this was for someone else.
"Stop staring at me, I know it's ridiculous and I'm gonna break my bloody neck with this things" She said showing him the fragile tip of one of the heels, he smiled founding his friend true nature even in that situation. "Stupid dress codes, is it too late to stay home? I have a rosé in the fridge wwith your name on it if you let me..."
"And losing the opportunity of seeing you roll your eyes at every old men comments on the country's economy?" He said putting her back inside the car and immediately after offering her hand to enter the car "Not a chance. You look lovely by the way"
"I won't roll my eyes at them, believe it or not, I do know how to handle myself in social events" She put on her seatbelt and he started the car turning on the GPS "Is the idea of meeting our old friends from uni and his parents what freaks me out, they must think I'm some kind of monster"
Our for some reason that word hurt more than it should, he brushed off the idea from his head again, jealous was an useless emotion to him and a dangerous one too in some people, and he was determined to not let them get the best of him.
"I don't think they would have invited you if they felt like that, or at least not to the rehearsal dinner too if that was the case." He said taking an exit indicated in the GPS.
"You clearly don't know Agnes Hawtrey" He briefly turn to her intrigued "David's mother, she is a rich harpy obsessed with showing everyone all the money their family has. I feel sorry for her future daughter in law, but since they actually getting married I assume she is not some Liberal brat who thinks spending Christmas in Libya is appropriate" She said imitating an high pitch voice with a posh accent.
"Why Libya?"
"Medecins sans frontiers" She answered "I volunteered to work with them in my holidays and David followed me a couple times. Agnes hated me for it, I actually think she was happy when I left him."
"Do you speak french?" He asked again trying to change the subject.
"Enough to work with them, but I'm completely rusty by now" she answered "I know it's too much effort to escape a suffocating relationship" the angry beast that had formed in his chest began to fade thanks to the idea of she not being entirely happy with the other guy, so he decided to approach the problem differently.
"I don't understand how do you end up together in the first place, you are too much of a free spirit to be around someone like that" He said, by now the city was getting behind them and he could start driving faster.
"Well my family is actually quite wealthy" She started causing a puzzled expression in his face "I reject any form of help from them and live on my own, but I did play my part in society for a while, so it seemed meant to be at the time. Of course I turned out to be a rotten apple and at some point I believe I was his excuse to hide how much he didn't enjoy their life style. I told you he was no saint, and maybe those where our finest moments" She said with a nostalgic smile, as if she remembered an specially pleasing memory. "But real life happened, you know? You are gonna like him don't worry"
"Well he sounds like a decent men" he said bitterly because his idea backfired "Music?"
They spend the rest of the trip talking about meaningless topics and singing along with the radio, by the time they eentered Yorkshire it was seven in the afternoon and the sun was standing to hide, the Waterton Perk hotel was magnificent, romantic and secluded as Charlie said, in the middle of a lake connected to land by a bridge full with trees naked by the winter that make the mansion looking more as something out of a fairytale.
He helped her out of the car and enjoyed having her body close to him while they crossed the bridge preventing her to fall with her heels. They entered a small lounge where people where waiting for the dinner to be served. As she had said earlier that week most of the people attending were old family friends of the bride and groom, and not many young faces were in the crowd. Except from those who he believed were the Uni friends, he introduced himself and even took a picture with one of the girls who had a similar reaction as Y/N when she met him.
Y/N was now chatting, a few meters away, more comfortable with them expecting the arrival of the main guests, while a couple of people were distracting Tom, complimenting his performance as Coriolanus a few years back and praising his Robert Down, so he couldn't notice the old woman, elegantly dressed in a light gray dress walking towards Y/N and dragging her apart from her friends, until she start talking in that high pitch voice Y/N had imitated very well earlier.
"How dare you showing your face in here?" The woman said to her while the young woman only remind silent not meeting her gaze "You spoiled ridiculous brat, after what you did to my boy, you should be ashamed..."
"Relax Agnes," She finally said lifting her look, Tom then was about to intervene but he could se a quiet rage behind her otherwise unaffected face, and felt forced to stay and watch "Let me remind you that your son invited me. And the last time I checked you are not David, also if you cared a little about your precious boy you wouldn't be making a fool of yourself in front of your guests" People where now standing very close to them listening every word the women said.
"You are right dear," Agnes started with a tone that said just the opposite, but smiling regaining her composure "After all how can I expect manners from a little trash from Devon anyway" Y/N let out a sarcastic laugh at the remark against her hometown and looked at her while the elder woman turned her back on her.
"Of course because the loose daughter of a fisherman as you called me can't be a suitable in law for you, I honestly pity the poor woman who has to have you in her life, I hope you can control her since you couldn't do it with me...
Her sentence die in the air because an old hand full of rings slapped her before she could finish, a red mark started forming in Y/N face, an she was fighting the tears, both from the humiliation and the hurt, from coming out of her eyes. Tom could see Agnes hand getting ready to hit her again while he tried to reach Y/N when a hand stopped her out of nowhere and spoke with a deep angry voice.
"That's enough mother" The infamous David was there, holding her mother still and standing in front of Y/N as a shield, all welled dressed and athletic, she looked tiny behind him and the beast inside Tom's chest started growling again. "Dad I asked you to watch her, Diane will be here any minute and I can't have this happening right now" The man who Tom assume was his father took agnes outside of the room and the rest of the people returned to their conversations as if nothing happened, finally allowing him to get closer. "Are you ok baby?" He said looking finally at Y/N offering his handkerchief to wipe her tears, that last word burned like fire in Tom's ears, he was now facing her with his back to Tom, and the bright smile that she gave him when she answered was making him sick
"It's okay sweetheart" She give back the handkerchief and give the man a good look "Let her have it, she has wanted to do that for 15 years, it's only fare, you look amazing, I'm so happy for you" She hugged him and the familiarity he showed holding her, made Tom's blood boil, he wanted to get him apart from her immediately, and take her far away from him and the poisonous thought of they together for years was corrupting his mind, there it was, jealousy cold and simple, the only thing his mind kept telling him was: He had her, and you don't. He had her for years, just the way you want her, she was his.
"And where is your something like that, I'm dying to met the lad" He said letting her go.
"Right behind you" she said completely ignoring the change in Tom's expression who was looking at the two with his mind apparently somewhere else. "Tom this is David." She said calling his name and breaking the murderous thoughts he was having.
"Sorry I wake you up the other night mate... Bloody hell you beautiful minx you did it!" He said loudly hugging her by the shoulder and then, much to his displeasure, Tom "Years obsessed with him, and drooling to his posters in our house and here you are inviting him to my wedding, I must say girl you made it! congratulations." She started turning red again but this time from the embarrassment, and Tom finally relaxed, something about David's personality make it impossible for him to be angry, maybe it was the fact that he was genuinely happy and how could he not? It was his wedding after all.
"Posters?" He asked enjoying the desperation in Y/N eyes urging him to change the subject.
"Posters, dvds, tshirts, you name it, she dragged me to watch your movies like four times each time they were on the cinema and then watched them on repeat at our flat" He recalled with exasperation "Don't get me wrong you are a fine looking man but not my type"
"Oh god, I think I'm going to find your mother to slap me again" She said covering her face "Please, I beg you stop talking"
"Let the man finish, it's the most compelling history" Tom said and while he put his arm around her waist taking her close to him.
"I'm glad to see you two together, I was so relieved when she said she was bringing someone, not like she needs anyone" He said anticipating her reaction proving to Tom just how much he knew her "But you two look actually happy together, and she's the most wonderful person" Y/N was about to clear things out when Tom wink at her and pressed her a little closer to him.
"She actually is, and we are very happy" He said giving him one of signature smiles "Is that your bride?" A young looking woman entered the room with a beautiful pale pink dress, and she looked at them completely baffled.
"Oh yes baby, that's my Diane" the man said and Tom felt ashamed for his brief jealous attack as the man seemed to call everyone baby. "Guess who we wake up the other morning dear?" The man said urging the girl to join them.
"Oh my goodness" The woman started "Are you...?" Tom smiled and politely introduce himself, and David then introduced both women "I am so sorry about the other morning, I told David to wait until noon when we were in Pakistan but he called you anyways, it was four in the morning right?"
"Yes, but never mind, what where you doing in Pakistan?" Y/N said now holding tight Tom's waist too.
"Building a hospital, Diane's foundation hired me a couple years ago and that's how we met, we've been living there for like five months, we were just going to elope a few weeks back, but I did this so I wouldn't cause my mother an aneurysm, but she had to accept my conditions to make it happen" He said proudly.
"Like inviting me?"
"That was actually my demand" Diane said with a little blush on her face "I really wanted to meet you, I heard so many wonderful things about you I thought maybe it was time for you to be friends again"
"And I told her we never stopped being friends in the first place, but she is stubborn, and I can't resist her" they started kissing like there were no one else in the room and Tom and Y/N look at each other nervously.
"Oi! Leave something for tomorrow" on of their friends called them from the dining room "The food is here come on"
The rest of the night went by without any other incident, apart for the perpetual state of happiness that David showed for Tom's presence, by the time the rest of the gests went to find their rooms Y/N and Tom were taking a last walk in the cold night, it was until they were at the entrance of the bridge that he noticed they were holding hands.
"Your boyfriend is quite a nice gentleman" he said teasing her.
"By the amount of wine he was trying to make you drink I would think he wants to be your boyfriend" she responded quickly. "Why did you told him we were together?" She question him now completely serious.
"I didn't thought you wanted to explain the nature of our relationship after what happened with his mother. So until the wedding is over I suppose I'm your boyfriend. How is your face by the way?" He said, not giving importance to the matter while they kept walking.
"It has been better. And thank you I suppose you are right, and it is nice to imagine what could have been, if I haven't been an idiot at the restaurant all those years ago, and not scaring you into not calling back" He stopped suddenly making them broke contact.
"That's why you think I didn't called?" He asked perplex "I couldn't care less about that ridiculous tantrum, if anything I was more interested in you for it" she was too astonished by his declaration to talk so he continued "I didn't asked you out again because you said I'll see you around I assumed you didn't want to be involved with me that way so I didn't push it."
"Well..." She started quietly with a sad half smile in her face "I did say that, with that precise intention, but secretly hoping for you to call anyway, and I even considered to ask you out myself, but then we became friends and, I don't know it was for the best, but nights like this one make me wonder if we made a mistake."
"Please never say that again" He took her face with both hands his hands and looked deeply in her eyes "Every day I have spend with you regardless of what our relationship may be, has been a blessing. I wouldn't change it for the world" she let go a sigh and her breath turn into vapor in the night, making them realize the cold weather. "I think we should get back inside, you are gonna freeze out here love, and what kind of fake boyfriend will I be if I let you become an ice lolly?". He offered her his arm so they could get back inside, his mind thinking too about how much he wanted to call her the minute he got home that day, but as always trying to respect her he didn't , and as always he calmed his regrets telling himself it was for the best, even if every passing day he felt more and more the opposite.
The room they had book was nice and comfortable, the big canopy bed in the middle was a beautiful promise of a long night of sleep and the window had a beautiful look at the lake. They both will be lying if they said this was the first night they have spend together, falling asleep talking in Tom's couch had happened more than half a dozen times, and even if Y/N never accepted it in front of her friends, she had stayed a couple of nights with him watching Bobby getting better, even sleeping in the same bed completley completely consumed by fatigue, so there was no awkwardness between them about consciously sharing the bed.
She took her heels off and found her silky romper pyjama in her suit case next to her travel size copy of Wuthering Heights, wich she occasionally read when she traveled and with the look outside the mansion it seemed appropriate, Y/N sit in the armchair in the corner of the room to read, waiting for Tom to get out of the shower, after reading four times the same paragraph without getting anything from it she realized just how tired she was.
She heard the door opened and saw him getting out of the shower whit just a pair of black loose sweatpants dangling from his hips and a thin line of pubic hair crawling up from the waistband dying in his perfect abs, drying his hair with a towel.
"What?" He asked her looking at her finally. "Do you feel alright darling?"
"I'm just tired" she said quickly taking her clothes and getting into the bathroom for a much needed cold shower. When she stepped out after drying her hair she almost fell down because he had turned out all of the lights and was already deeply sleeping, she'll have time to nagging him about how inconsiderate that was in the morning, she entered the bed and close her eyes trying to drift apart and think about nothing when she felt his arms suddenly trapping her and bringing her closer to him by her waist.
She didn't mind since they had cuddled like that before, even when this particular time she could feel the bare skin of his chest in her back, but then the hand that was holding her started moving slowly caressing her belly and some parts she often felt self conscious about, then slowly moving down to her thigh, she was about to finally move and stop him when she felt his breath behind her back and his deep voice in her ear.
"Are you awake?"
"Yes" Y/N said in a tiny whisper while his hand found her way under the fabric of her romper.
"Are you cold again?" He asked this time brushing his nose in her neck, every inch of her skin was reacting to his touch and the deep tone of his voice was making her wet "you are shaking"
"It's not about that" she answered incapable of moving only embracing the magnificent sensations she was receiving.
"Am I making you feel uncomfortable?" His hand had finally found her lacy panties and he had stopped only touching the seam waiting for her permission to continue. "Do you want this to happen?" He said stopping his movements completely, she could feel her heart racing and all logic flying away.
"Yes, I want it" she said finally and he caressed her womanhood over the thin fabric, making her soaked, while his other hand tried to remove the top part of her jumper sliding down the traps leaving her braless chest exposed.
"Naughty girl" He said with a chuckle leaving a trace of kisses in her back and cupping her breast in his hand playing with her niple until it was hard and them pinching it to get her in that point between pain and pleasure.
He move apart the fabric of her panties and let one of his long digits inside her making her moan in pleasure and impatiently brushing her thighs together desperate for more friction, she could feel his arousal pressing firmly in her buttocks, and all this anticipation was only to torture her.
"Don't be impatient my dear" he said letting in another finger and curling them inside her, touching her right on the spot to make her lost her mind "Tell me that you want it Y/N" he order her and she let go another moan.
"Fuck me Tom, fuck me please!" She said and he immediately took his fingers out to pin her in the bed under him.
He finished taking the rest of her clothes in one movement and opened her legs ready to enter her, he give her one last deep look with those piercing blue eyes and he bend to kiss her...
"You should take a shower or at least put on something more comfortable" Tom face said suddenly wearing his glasses and fully clothed. Y/N blink twice, before shaking the sleepiness, and trying to figure out what was happening. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up, but I thought you may want to shower before going to sleep"
She finally opened her eyes completely and could see him out of the shower on his pijamas, her silky romper still waiting for her to take a shower and her book comfortably resting on the lamp stand next to her.
"Yeah sure, I'm too tired I must have fallen asleep, thanks for waking me up" she said avoiding his look and desperately picking up her fresh clothes.
"Sure love, you can't be at the wedding with a crooked neck" he said picking up the book she was reading. "You were moving a lot so I imagine that armchair can't be comfortable" he said with a distracted smile and she went straight to the bathroom before turning red of embarrassment.
Y/N slammed the bathroom door closed, and Tom stood next to the armchair looking where she was just moments before, once he heard the water fall in the shower he massaged his temples, trying to erase from his mind what he had seen but it was impossible and he really didn't want to forget it. She was sweating and panting when he got out of the shower, and the neckline of her dress a was a little lower than usual perfectly countoring her breasts.
He stood there looking at her and it took him just one more second to realized what kind of dream she must've been having. Blushing and feeling like a pervert he walked back into the bathroom determined to make as much noise as he could to wake her up when he heard her moan. Fuck me Tom, fuck me please! He walked back to her and before the blood abandoned his brain entirely, to migrate to his lower region, he did the logical thing and wake her up.
He exhaled feeling like and idiot. This was going to be a long weekend.

How many types of Dog Grooming clippers are there? A guide to dog grooming clippers.
Dogs become a pertinent part of our lives once they enter the house. Just like for a baby, we take all kinds of oaths to keep the dogs healthy and wealthy as well. Alike humans, they also need grooming sessions time after time. And, dog lovers would acquire all kinds of knowledge and assets to provide the best grooming sessions. Now that you have become a professional dog groomer, it is under your control to provide the best fur shape, skin condition, and smooth hair to your dogs. One has to make sure that they use quality resources to give the best care. It does become a little knotty and confusing to know what is best and what is not. Thus, we are here to throw a little light on the best dog clippers.
How many types of Dog grooming clippers are there?
With the enhancement in technology, dog clippers seem like a great tool. It helps to evade more than half of the load while contemplating grooming activities.
However, sometimes dog grooming clippers could be worrisome. Unlike humans, dogs aren’t aware of the wonders of technology and the movement of clippers might scare them.
So, make sure to move around carefully and prefer the best dog clippers.
Corded dog clippers
The corded dog clippers are considered among the best professional dog clippers
This dog grooming clipper comes with a plethora of features. From fast speed rotation to low vibration and professional quality.
It is easy to use.
In comparison to cordless clippers, it is lighter in weight.
Caution- Make sure while using it. The cord might arouse the dog’s movement. The cord can come in touch at places where you might not have an eye.
Cordless dog clippers
This is one among the easiest dog grooming clippers to use.
The cordless dog clippers are considered for amateurs.
Make sure to purchase batteries from time to time.
It should be considered if you have to use it timely. Some dogs require a cut once in a blue moon. So, for those types, you can acquire a corded dog clipper.
Best cordless clippers are the ones that don’t retain battery rapidly.
Consider cordless clipper as the best dog clipper for poodles.
Caution- The battery for the same hardly lasts. It gets over within a blink of an eye. If you have one dog grooming clipper then make sure to charge it frequently.
Single-speed dog clippers
While talking about dog grooming clippers, it is hard to ignore single speed dog clippers.
This dog clipper comes with a single blade rotation.
Single-speed dog clipper is measured as best for amateurs.
The advantage of using it is that it doesn’t heat up easily.
It is less expensive. However, it might not work on a few breeds.
While talking about the best professional dog clippers, we can’t turn our faces around.
A skilled groomer can give creative and professional cuts with this clipper.
Variable Speed Dog Clippers
As the name suggests, this type of dog grooming clipper supports more than one variation.
From 0 to maximum 5 i.e. from slowest to fastest speed.
You can identify this as the best professional dog clipper.
An amateur might find it a little convoluted and heavy.
The variations in speed could help get the work done quickly.
One can use the dog grooming clipper at the highest speed- to cut thick coats.
To give fineness or cut minor coats- the lowest speed is advisable.
Lesser the speed means more perfection. You can use it to cut the coat around the tail.
One should be cautious while using it. Avoid keeping it close enough to the dog’s skin.
It can heat up quickly and is expensive in comparison to single speed clipper.
This is meant mostly for professionals while single speeded could be used by amateurs as well.
People prefer it when they have thick coats to cut off. That seems impossible with other types of clippers.
Clipper Maintenance
While we talk about best dog grooming clippers, we shouldn’t forget that maintenance of the assets is also significant. Clippers might be easy to use but requires a lot of care.
· Brush it up- After the cut session of the dog, clean your clippers with a small brush. It is important to do so. As we might see long hair falls off but petty hair gets stuck between the blades of clippers. This would lead to the mounting of dirt. After all, it is a machine. We don’t know what could make it worse.
· Cooling spray- As mentioned above, most of the dog grooming clippers heat up very swiftly. The heating up can cause irrelevant movements in the dog’s body. That could lead to risking a dog’s skin. To make sure, it doesn’t heat up, apply cooling clippers spray. This will aid in the prevention of heat up for a longer duration.
· Keep it safely- Some might use clippers often while others prefer it once in a blue moon. It is necessary to keep them in a box or a tool kit after the grooming session. That would reduce the chances of getting deteriorated soon enough.
Conclusion
There are a plethora of machines available out there for proper grooming. However, after consideration of the above points- we believe that you have acquired a crystal-clear idea regarding best dog clippers.
It is necessary to provide the best grooming to your dog. After all, they deserve it. But not to ignore that safety is equally important.
If a clipper heats up speedily, then make sure to turn it off as soon as possible. If the speed of the clipper is swift enough then make sure to turn it slightly away from the dog’s body. Finally, take care of the clippers and dogs as both are a one-time investment.

Hockey Is A Family Thing
(Reader x Hockey Player Version)
Summary: A boy falls for a girl
Warnings: Um there is a slap but that is it.
Pairing: Reader x Ian Kildner ( fake person but like Jamie Benn but younger)
Word Count: 2,597
Rating: 18+ for future parts
Genre: Fluff Flirting
Okay so here something to know before you read. The teams are real but all the people fake it was easier for me with this story. Yes I know the gif is Jamie Benn not the made up people in the story. This is my first story that I'm putting up please be nice.
You stood by a high table, wearing a stunning and elegant black dress A-line gown with a respectable but fun slit up the side, talking to a relatively wealthy seeming older gentleman. His tux was custom, hair grey, and thinking, and the date he had brought with him was barely legal to drink, showing almost all her cleavage, and was sipping her cosmo through a straw. But, you didn't care about any of that right now. All you cared about was convincing this man that a donation to the team's charity would be a brilliant investment.
"Mr. Mason donating to the teams' charity is not only a write off for you with tax breaks, but it allows lots of people to see just how good you and your company are." Manson Construction was responsible for building half of Boston and rebuilding the other half. They had gone through a string of bad publicity when someone leaked rumors of the company cutting corners regarding safety protocols to the local newspapers. The stories had been proven untrue, but it had still caused doubt in the community. Mason Construction was a good company, and you knew that. "Manson Construction on every banner we use when the team works with charities like Habitat for Humanity or does an event with local children's hospitals something like that could change how the community views your company," you said with a passionate and firm promise to her voice. Just as you finished your speech, a loud, sharp crack of noise erupted from behind you.
Your brother Jack, the youngest of your four brothers, and his girlfriend Ashley had been fighting all night. You had been keeping an eye on it. Ashley was not a great girlfriend. You was pretty sure Ashley was in it for the idea of dating a pro athlete, and Jack was in it cause Ashley was hot. You had noticed more and more that Jack seemed done with Ashley's crap, and from the way Ashley was now storming out and the fact Jack wasn't going after her, he had decided to end things tonight in a public place.
You turned back to Mr. Mason, who was chuckling to himself. "Your brother seems to be quiet, the unlucky fellow tonight in regards to love. But you are better than luck. You're smart, and you've got gumption, Y/N. I like the image you've given the charity, and I think it will provide great support and publicity for my business. I will send you a check tomorrow with the donation. If the team or the charity needs anything, you let me know," he said, smiling and walking away with his old wrinkled hand on his arm candy's ass.
You shivered in disgust as you watched arm candy giggle and kiss him on the cheek then took a deep breathe you had done it. You had landed another massive donation for the charity.
Suddenly a large and heavy arm flopped around your shoulder, and your oldest brother Brandon was there by your side.
"Way to go, Y/N looks like Mr. Mason was very happy with the idea of being the teams highest paying donor', he said with pride and admiration for his sister.
"He said he would send over the check tomorrow. I need a drink, and to get these heels off my feet are killing me." You laughed, walking to the bar.
Brandon was the oldest of the four brothers at the age of 33. He had retired from the league last year due to a knee injury and hired by the team as the skills coach. Brandon was always responsible. He was the boy next door with a killer smile and genuine charm. The next one down was Henry, who was 31 and was the team's new athletic trainer. He was sporty and the smartest. He wanted to be a doctor when he was younger but found a way to combine his love of medicine and learning with his love of hockey and the team he had grown up around he immediately change to sports medicine.
Finally, there was Y/N , the youngest out of the five children and the only girl. You grew up tough and headstrong, just like your brothers. Your mother made sure you was balanced, though, so she had put you in dance as a little girl, and you had loved it. You still went to classes and taught little ones occasionally. Your brothers were always there in the front row to cheer you on then give noogies after. You are 24, but most people thought you were older because of how you held yourself.
All 5 of the siblings looked alike, all athletic, tall, and toned the brothers ranging in muscle definition. All five had dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. There was no denying they were family. The dark hair came from your dad, and the eyes had come from your mom. The whole family was here tonight, and you loved that. Everyone in the family had found a way to be apart of the team or organization in a job they loved. You loved being around your family and the constant support they gave. Your mom had started the Boston Bruins charity when your dad had been a player. She was still running it and was grooming you to take over soon. Being a Bruin was a family thing. You had all been born into it and loved every minute of it.
You and Brandon were standing by the bar ordering drinks when you saw out of the corner of your eye, Henry and Eric walk up.
"So, we all saw the slap that Ashley gave Jack, right?" Henry said in a cautious and questioning tone.
"Yes, the whole room heard it. Did you see where he went?" Brandon asked cautiously.
"No, but my guess would be the locker room, someone should go check on him?" Eric said, turning towards you.
"Yea yea yea, I'll go. Even though one of you are married and ones engaged," she said over her shoulder, walking away toward the locker room.
You found Jack sitting in his locker with a cold beer pressed to his face. head drooped down and fidgeting with his phone. "You shouldn't call her, "you said, pulling the drink away to check out the handprint on his face.
"I know I just thought she was the one at the beginning. "He sighed as you sat next to him.
You sat there with him for a few minutes in silence. You knew he would be fine just needed someone to lean on for a bit, and sure enough, after about 10 minutes, he handed you his beer and stated with new energy, "There are plenty of fish in the sea. I just have to find the right one, right?!" Jack jumped up and started walking to the doors.
"Yes, just please be safe and smart and maybe go home alone tonight," you shouted to him as he strutted out the doors.
Slowly you took a sip of the beer and sighed, starting to take your shoes off, enjoying the silence. You heard the doors slam open and Jimmy Peters and his date for the evening tumbled though not breaking the sloppy kiss and handsy embrace, they were tangled in. They never noticed as you grabbed your high heels and beer and left the room. You were in the hall on the way back, laughing to yourself about the thought of giving Jimmy a hard time the next time you saw him when you heard the classic catcall whistle from behind you.
You turned to find Ian Kildern, one of the team's defensive players. He was 6'4" muscled more than the average hockey player and curly brown hair with deep green eyes. His tux was well altered; it hung perfectly on him, showing his broad shoulders and narrow waist. Ian was an excellent player, smart, lightning-fast, and a great leader. He was 26 and had been in the league since he was 19. The Bruins had picked him up four years ago when his contract had been up with the Tampa Bay Lighting. You were friends, but you were closer to other players, and usually only had a small talk with easy, polite jokes.
"Y/N, you clean up nice." He said in a semi-serious, mostly mocking tone.
"Shut up, Ian. Don't you have a date to dazzle like the rest of the team?" you said in a cheeky and light-hearted tone.
"No, actually Kelly and I broke up last weekend."
"Oh, that's right; her name was Kelly, and I'm so sorry to hear that after a week together, you had to call quits. You must be devastated. You said with a wink. Knowing fully, he had never planned on keeping it serious. Ian didn't sleep around a lot, but he also didn't keep girlfriends long.
He chuckled, "Yeah, she was allergic to my dog." He changed the subject when he noticed the bottle in your hand, "You drinking alone - drowning your sorrows?"
"No, actually," you said in a matter of fact tone, "I was consoling my brother."
Ian's face squished up, and he sucked in a breath, "Yea, I saw - well heard the slap. Is he okay?"
"He's fine. It's his pride that's hurting more than anything, although he won't admit to it", you explained on a sigh.
"Well, I'm glad he's okay. It's tough trying to figure everything out—the balance between the game and social life. Suddenly having money and not know if women want you the status or the money. It can be a rough and bumpy ride.” He said with an understanding tone.
"So, you had a girl slap you in front of your entire team and about 45 VIP guests?" you questioned, intrigued to hear his answer.
That's disgusting." you fussed, cutting him off and giggling at the idea.
"Well, then, Miss. Date Judger where is your perfect event plus one this evening." He asked mockingly, looking around the hallway you two were slowly walking down.
It Had To Be You by Harry Connick Jr. He grabbed your hand put the bottle of beer on the floor, and stated softly, "It's a great song - I wouldn't want it to go to waste since you don't have someone to dance with."
Surprised by the sudden change in tone, you lost your voice a little and had to clear it before asking, "Ian Kildern, are you asking me to dance?"
He slowly started to pull you into his arms, saying in a volume just barely above a whisper, "I guess I am. Are you saying yes?"
"I guess I am." you said, staring into his eyes and falling into the sway of his body. Still stiff at first, you slowly drifted further into the daze the music mixed with his look and tone of voice had caused, eventually allowing yourself to melt completely into him. Neither of you spoke to busy enjoying the moment. It had been years since you had slow danced, and you were enjoying being wrapped in someone's arms. Not just any someone, but someone who had made you laugh and had been having a good conversation with, not to mention he smelled incredible.
Ian couldn't believe he was dancing again. He had stopped bringing dates to events because it always fell short of what he wanted the evening to be. But with Y/N, he couldn't help but notice you laugh at his story or the way you had softened and molded to him as you danced. Hand in hand, his left hand rested at the small of your back, your head resting on his chest right hand on his shoulder. You felt good in his arms. He felt something different for you, something he hadn't felt in a very long time. The music drifted away as the song ended, and you both stopped swaying. You pulled your head back but didn't pull away; you just looked at him, waiting for him to speak first, but Ian didn't want to say anything anymore. The smell of your vanilla perfume. The blush that had risen in your cheeks, the way you were waiting for him. He wanted to kiss you. He wanted to feel those soft pink lips pressed to his. Before he knew it, you were wetting your lips and starting to lean in because you had wanted it too. Never one to miss the opportunity; he leaned in and pressed his hand into your back more, drawing you closer. He was a whisper away from you when Jimmy and his date exploded from the locker room with laughter, pulling the two of you apart. Jimmy and his date rush by you and unseen to the car in the parking lot.
"Well, it's late. I should be going," Ian said, trying to hide the disappointment that the moment was gone from his voice.
"Uh, yea, it's late. I should be finding mom to see if she needs help with anything. Good night Ian and thank you for the dance.", you said, turning and walking away before he could say or do anything.
It took a split second for him to decide, but he had made his choice he wanted her. He wanted to hold, kiss, love, and keep Y/N forever.

hiii everyone! i’m finally here. this is rosé bringing in my son, byun iseul, who’s also the biggest sponsor to damsu. tl;dr he’s a robin hood-esque slash masked vigilante that happened to have a superstitious father that foresaw a kind of incoming apocalypse, thus training him for survival. if you’d like to plot with him, i’m easily reachable via discord ( rosé.#6236 ) more than tumblr im, although i don’t mind the latter either. just like this plot and i’ll come running to you! without further ado, i’m going to dump information about iseul under the read more!
INTRODUCTION.
birthed in one of the richest families in south korea 5031, his father and mother used to be that quixotic couple with his father leading in a multitude of industries as both a stakeholder and in some, owner. both parents came from long lines of inherited money, legacies that only expanded in his father’s hands.
his father was rather unorthodox, predicting that the world would collapse soon with theories to back him up. survival of the fittest, so he trained iseul in terms of physical and material and mental advances. he was homeschooled until the end of primary school, attending various courses to support and enhance his physical and intellectual capabilities.
his friends as a child came from the same social circles, especially from his mother’s side as she is a socialite. when he started school in a public setting, he went along well with some people while remaining private for the most parts of himself. has a penchant for compartmentalization for sure. dishonest as a person in general, and in result of realizing this himself, has slight trust issues.
when he was twelve, his mother left the family due to not having enough attention from his father mostly — who was always busy with both work and thoughts. his mother remarried two years after the divorce, and her new husband is also within the same social status as them, so iseul did have a period where he would avoid attending galas and the likes.
he loved his father, and always does, but there are significant values that his father held which he couldn’t truly grasp, let alone practice. it enveloped the entire view of having their money for themselves, including preserving any means to survive the collapse. every man for himself was basically how his father drilled him, but he grew a good conscience that led him to feel internally conflicted.
unbeknownst to his father, he often stole from fellow influencers to give the money towards the poor. this was done out of slight malice, in which he believes that every rich person should be contributing to the cause. and when the great divide occurred, there was a huge rift between his father and him for the first time in forever. the difference in principles made him run away for approximately a few months, until his father summoned him during the last dying breath.
in 2054, he inherited his father’s wealth in its unadulterated form, including the bribes, the corruptions, the malpractices. he started understanding to what extent his father was willing to preserve their safety in a world where money rules. it touched him, yet startled him in a sense that he’s certain all the hates would be redirected towards him later on as the face of this extreme affluence.
he made a few changes to the companies his father previously had a power in, and started building and reaching out towards more ecosystemic endeavors. his money is mostly delegated to the greater good, spending so much to support the attempts to make seoul a better place. when he deemed it wasn’t enough anymore, he began to steal small, thanks to his father’s years of harnessing his abilities.
in 2055, he started adopting the alias zero, as both a masked vigilante and also a thief, a robber. he’s been creating a lattice of networks both inside and outside the borders, although it took a while for those in the outskirts to believe in his cause when he barely keeps in contact with them apart from dropping sums of necessities. his presence renders some dysphoria to happen, with some factions getting more fragmented seeing what he’s been doing for the poor.
his façade is definitely polished to perfection, parading accordingly to his status as a really wealthy man. he’s amicable, but he keeps his distance from most people, especially those who appear close to him. his lies are often coherent and cohesive, causing people to think it’s his actual self, when in fact, it’s somewhere far. he’s actually fairly private, constantly wedging a gap with others, although some managed to penetrate the barriers, getting to know him a tad deeper.
as his front in his daily lives, he has a dozen of bodyguards and k9 dogs to protect him. it makes him seem even more unreachable as it is, as it gets under his skin when plenty of people inquire over donation because of his status as damsu’s biggest sponsor. also, has enough servants for his old mansion, marbled with ivory walls.
actually distrustful towards the green party, and sides better with the poor since it’s whom he wants to protect. he has many underground channels as zero, helping him get his gears and technology, as well as other utilities he needs to perform his field thieveries. he’s not completely blank when it comes to hacking either, although he’d prefer allocating the work towards those more experienced than him.
he has a certain flair to his being zero, mixing various martial arts to concoct his own moves. parkour is a forte as well, with good instincts towards danger that he honed during his stay in the outskirts. will never show any fight as iseul seeing that people might be able to connect the dots if they notice his movement patterns.
CONNECTIONS.
the right hands ( 0 / 2 ): one person inside the border, and another in the outskirts to ensure that he can have backups sent to him as soon as he’s injured if necessary. they are the only ones who have discovered zero’s identity, and have been supporting iseul’s plans since he ran away from home. one of them might be a hacker and the other has connections with technological advancements.
rebel informants ( 0 / ? ): the outskirts people that happened to encounter him as zero — ones which exchange information with a sum of money, water, or sometimes with a deed. this is an underground channel that assists him in his endeavors; some of them would know his motives while some are there purely for the symbiosis.
the so-called social circle ( 0 / ? ): those who are of the well-off communities, meeting him as byun iseul. he’s one of the richest in the circle, and he’s always presenting himself well as his father’s successor. some of these connections could span from his childhood to adulthood. he tends to be charismatic, and oftentimes would refuse inebriating himself.
miscellaneous ( 0 / ? ): green party members, those working for the companies he’s sponsoring, also some journalists that make zero into news. also, victims of his stealing — especially stingy wealthy families.
INTERVIEWS.
what are your thoughts on the green party? are they really going to make a change?
❛ this might sound rather feigned to some, if not most, but i do want the best to occur for everyone’s benefits, even when it would cost me quite a fortune, and i urge for everyone else to do the same even when the price of a better world is not cheap. i understand that people will be in the sides they’ve chosen to be in, but we’re fighting for what we see as the better in any ways that we can. any ways that we see as… just. ❜ presses his lips into a thin line, as though he’s deep in thoughts. ❛ but i definitely want to believe that they would make a change, even if it has to come with various hurdles. in that sense, nonetheless, i wish that the next steps taken would bloom into something beneficial. ❜
on a scale from 1-10; how much have you suffered during the great divide and why?
❛ i didn’t deal with it entirely well when it comes to the psychological aspects, ❜ his syllables are almost too indifferent, edged with a distance set between him and the interviewer. ❛ however, compared to how the others outside our walls, physical and metaphorical, have suffered… i’d rate it as naught, almost. my battles were personal as they came, the great divide becoming nothing but an icing on top of it all… but i don’t suppose making this about myself is the right step to execute. suffering is, after all, relative… to rate it as a one, or a ten, they remain an illusionary perspective that i don’t think we can afford right now. material-wise, i did have no suffering to bear, but there were other aspects as well — ones which i don’t wish to disclose. ❜
what are your plans for the next few years? work? love? adopt an animal? any changes in your life?
❛ i’m not entirely sure. there are too many visions to be realized within a short span of this life that we have, with the crisis to be resolved. there are several plans in mind that i’d like to reap myself, of course, but my priorities lie in ensuring that there’s enough sustenance for everyone. ❜ a calm smile is splayed on his lips as he fixates his gaze. ❛ there’s a lot of worries, but as for me myself, i’d like to find more effective ways to maneuver around my line of work, distributing towards the better world than what we have now. as for love, i don’t think we’ll ever know when we’ll find the person that comprehends us best. it’s a matter of circumstances. animals, i don’t think i can divide my attention as of current, so the ones i have around me now have to suffice, even when i don’t take care of them personally. ❜
HEADCANONS.
circa survive, the world was never fractured for a boy that was prepared for when the structure would collapse. appa was a believer of anticlimactic armageddon, foreseeing the future just from the mere understandings in regards to the past and present. the fittest was destined to be a boy that shouldn’t be frail, and therefore, he was trained, groomed to the tallest skyscraper with a spine made of the strongest metal appa could get his hands on. appa lived in the paranoia that eventually killed him. there was no sustenance to a man that could never be sated; his lack of satisfaction led him to be one of the biggest giants in the industry. at home, appa was a figment of violent imagination, turning the only son malleable to seek delight from performing an open heart surgery on a nightly basis. there was knowledge poured into a casket too young, and iseul knew that when given a chance, appa would nail it shut with iseul alive inside. calculative, maladaptive, appa was everything that he was afraid of — the face of his night terrors, personified.
except appa eventually passed during the fall of the apocalypse. appa’s prediction was true, however: the world doesn’t come away with a bang. instead, it withers, slowly but surely. it’s been withering for a while now for a boy that grew into a man with too many teeth, and he’s been sinking all the canines into the core of this bereavement. appa paved a path that was too skewed for his liking, with the great divide erupting into a full-blown verbal argument between appa and him. there was an entire line that should’ve led to the head if he chased after the tail enough, and so, that’s what he did regardless of how appa disapproved. they should’ve utilized, exploited what they had as opposed to distributing it around the society. resources could be limited even when they probably were one of the wealthiest, their culture of affluence divided into too many strata. they fought, and he often walked away with anger. justice should’ve been preserved, but he wasn’t one to say a thing when he wasn’t one on the shorter end of the stick.
appa was his crux, still. the death did not do him well during the great divide, returning home to an open coffin ceremony. and so, for years he became complacent with what he inherited, trying to live off his legacy. when damsu came out unscathed, he was there first, believing that somewhat it was a compromise. and poured more into it until it became a bottomless well. he shouldn’t be the only one responsible when the rich still remained as the rich, the poor likewise. he began to steal, to lie, to cheat. everything that appa prepared him for in a world where there was no survival but through violence thrived in an environment that didn’t support justice. and so, he became the man in the myth, the modern robin hood with a supportive delegation with him as the head. he rebels against appa’s commitment towards selfishness, even if it costs him his sleep — a reminder that even after appa’s death, he still lives under appa’s shadows.

Rings
Title: Rings
Summary: Yoichi and Kimizuki get married!! After some shenanigans and an almost anxiety attack, it happens!
Story Song: Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Mentions of anxiety, an almost anxiety attack, cursing
“I’m still shocked you and Telephone Pole are getting married.”
Yuu snorted, eyebrow raised. “Oh my God, Yuu. Can Yoichi get married in peace without you calling his fiance Telephone Pole?” Shinoa asked, staring right at Yuu. “So, when’s the wedding day?” Shinoa turned her attention back to Yoichi, who fidgeted nervously with his hands. “Um..next month.” He’d say.
“And where’s Kimizuki?” Mitsuba asked now.
“We kinda made a promise to not see each other face to face until..our wedding day. We can still text and call though.”
“Keeping it sacred, I like your style!” Shinoa snickered. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Yoichi asked nervously as Shinoa kept snickering. “You’re dirty-minded, Shinoa.” Mitsuba said as she pulled Shinoa to her lap.
“Hold up, he didn’t even show us the ring..and told us who proposed first!” Shinoa said. “Well?” Yuu glanced at Yoichi who fidgeted more. “It was Kimizuki who proposed, I wouldn't have the guts to do it.” Yoichi confessed, causing a loud whoop from Shinoa as she punched the air. “Yuu, you owe me ten dollars~!” She’d say.
“Well, fuck.”
“Language!” Mitsuba chimed in. “Also, Yuu, now you also owe me ten dollars.”
“..Fudge.”
“Much better.” Shinoa leaned forward and patted Yuu on the head as he gave her the ten dollars and then handed Mitsuba her ten dollars.
“Now, the ring.” Shinoa grinned as Yoichi sighed and stuck out his right hand, showing the ring he had on and was fidgeting with. It was silver, with tiny diamonds connected to the bigger one.
“Holy shit, that’s a ring.” Shinoa gasped and was lightly smacked by Mitsuba. There was almost an unspoken rule of not swearing in front of Yoichi. “Did you cry when Telephone Pole proposed?” Yuu asked, staring at the ring himself.
“...Yeah..”
“Honestly, I expected that.” Yuu would grumble. “Let’s get some food to celebrate this, my treat!” Shinoa said. “You’re wealthy, of course.” Yuu sighed as he got up. “Ohhh, you sound jealous!” Mitsuba shouted. “I’m not!” Yuu insisted. Yoichi just laughed as he and his friends went out to eat.
A month later…
“Are you excited, Yoichi?”
“More nervous. My heart’s beating at one hundred miles an hour.”
“..That’s anxiety, my friend.”
“Very funny.”
Yoichi was with Shinoa, who won the bet of becoming almost like a ‘maid of honor’ to Yoichi and helped him get ready. The best man actually was Yuu, but he was out with Mika and Kimizuki getting ready. Mitsuba was the main planner and was currently shouting at people outside of the room.
“Your girlfriend is very loud, Shinoa.”
“My soon to be wife, dear married one.”
“I’m not even married yet!”
“Today’s your wedding day, when you kiss is when ya seal the deal! So..you’re right but you’re the married one to me.”
“Okay, I suppose so..”
Yoichi took a deep breath, but realized how far his anxiety was willing to go. Who wasn’t nervous for their big day? But he felt so out of place, like camera lenses focused on him..like paparazzi.
“Yoichi! Earth to Yoichi.” Shinoa snapped her fingers in front of him, waving her hand too. “Huh, yeah?” Yoichi asked. “Are you alright? Not getting cold feet, are you?” Shinoa asked. “No! No, no, no, it’s just the regular dose of anxiety.” Yoichi waved her off.
“Well, take a deep breath, because you’re gonna marry the love of your life right now.” Shinoa helped Yoichi up from his chair and stepped out of the room. “If you start crying, then just make it silent because we don’t wanna hear that..” Shinoa whispered. “Shinoa!” Mitsuba turned and smacked her girlfriend, “That’s a rude thing to say.” She’d insist. “Sorry.” Shinoa rolled her eyes.
Shinoa led Yoichi to the big doors, which led to the altar. “Holy crap, I’m nervous.” Yoichi murmured. “Just focus on your breathing and just walk. You’ll be fine.” Shinoa told him before leaving and whistling at Mitsuba to get to her place.
There was faint music playing, and Yoichi took a deep breath. Focus and don’t end up falling, that’s easy..he thought. He just needed to focus.
Yoichi soon had the doors opened and he walked down, keeping a steady beat to himself as he did. He didn’t fall, luckily, and he walked up to the altar to face Kimizuki.
“You look great..” Yoichi whispered to Kimizuki.
“You look amazing.” Kimizuki chuckled.
It was a blur after that, the only notable things for Yoichi were the I dos..and the fact Yuu had his dog Cinnamon be the ringbearer. Cinnamon must of been trained by Kimizuki then as a surprise, because the dog walked down proudly to hand the rings. It was adorable.
“You may now kiss the groom.”
Loud cheering ensued when Yoichi and Kimizuki kissed, Shinoa was the loudest one and was hugging Mitsuba while she cheered. Mika and Yuu weren’t as loud, somehow Yoichi didn’t even notice but he was told from Shinoa, but they looked..proud, to say the least.
And, just to say..Yoichi did cry.
Now, it was after all the partying. The wedded pair left the drunk party goers to sleep in the chairs and on the floor; just to get some alone time.
Kimizuki actually insisted on carrying Yoichi bridal style up to their private room and you know what? Yoichi allowed it. After mindless conversation, Kimizuki asked on final question as he placed Yoichi on the bed.
“Shall we?”
Yoichi beamed up at his husband (man, he was going to use that word a LOT!!) and nodded.
“Yes, we shall.”

The Novice Review
This is gonna be a super informal one but I’ve been putting it off for a while and I’m basically just trying to crack this out all at once.
So I read The Novice the first book in The Summoner trilogy and if I’m being honest, I was pleasantly surprised by how invested I came to be in this first book It’s about a blacksmith’s apprentice named Fletcher, living in not-another-standard-fantasy-world. Whatever. Either way, Fletcher discovers that he has the power to summon demons when he reads a spell and summons a salamander. He’s later enrolled in the local Hogwarts equivalent where adepts are being trained to become battlemages for the military as in this setting we’re at war with the Orcs. Fletcher makes a couple of friends, most notably an Elf and a Dwarf and some enemies in a pair of twins that remind me of Draco Malfoy and a teacher that reminds me of Snape.
The first chunk of the book is the hardest to get through cause its’ a lot of world building and exposition about the state of the world and the relations between humans and the other races. We hate the Orcs, obviously but we also hate the Dwarves even though we have a rather flimsy alliance with them as well as the Elves who we’ve only recently stopped having a war with. Because the battle isn’t going so well, we try to get as many adepts through the proper schooling as fast as possible so we can just punt them out to the front lines. This means that because the enemy of my enemy is my friend, one Dwarf and one Elf attend Fletcher’s school for the sake of rounding out our cast. Othello and Sylva the Dwarf and Elf respectively are fine characters and I really liked how savy they were to the plight and situations of their people. I like how the novel stresses that they need to be on their best behavior so that relations between their races and the humans go well and that shapes a lot of their interactions with not only Fletcher but the rest of the cast as well. Sylva is probably the most politically savy in this regard as she very quickly tries to befriend the aforementionred Draco Malfoy twins, Isadora and Tarquin who are both obvious asshats from a wealthy family. The friendship is an obvious ruse on both ends with each being able to get something from the other but we know and so too does Fletcher that these kinds of alliances aren’t really the best baskets to put all your eggs in. Othello and Fletcher hit it off almost immediately so his decisions never come off as “why the fuck are you doing this” cause Dwaves are already treated like second class citizens so of course he’d have no reason to try to hit it off with the nobility. And that’s another thing.
This being a rather standard fantasy setting has clear lines drawn in the sand for nobles and peasents. The school that the kids attend is primrarally for nobles who do their best to keep this verse’s magic within the nobility. A noble’s first born will always be an adept and any kids popped out after only have a 1 in 3 chance of being magical. But nobles can also have kids with multiple women so as long as it’s the first born to that particular woman, the kid will always have magical power. Commoners having magical power in the grand scheme of things isn’t treated as unusual because at the first sign of talent they’re shipped off to school. Nobles, being born with the power inherently are better groomed for their impending education giving them more of an advantage while at school and better chances to promote. So we’re dealing with a Nobles vs. Commoners situation in addition to everyone generally just being against everyone. Its’ quickly established that due to the war we have to try to expidite everyone’s education but this year we’re allowing first years to participate in an annual tournament that basically allows for instant transition into the military. So even though Fletcher isn’t the only commoner, he’s barely in a position to really try to make friends cause the general attitude is one of first come first serve, dog eat dog. That doesn’t stop Fletcher from befriending a couple of kids at school but it does put a strain on their relationship later on when he’s taking extra classes and studying with the more plot relevant characters.
The characters themselves are adequate, with our main three being on the better end of the protagainst side while our antagonists are written with such banality you can see their actions and dialouge coming from a mile away. If anything I’d say that Fletcher is probably one of the smarter protagonists I've read about in a series like this as he recognizes the problems he has with the magic system and seeks shortcut his way around his obstacles with an idea so simple it’s absolutely genius. Another thing I have to praise is the use of demons with the inherent magic system. I honeslty expected this to be a story about a boy learning how to summon demons and what I got was a book where the demons are actually plot devices to make the magic work. All in all I liked it. Again, I struggled to get through the first half but once the midpoint happened I was hanging on by every word. The ending came as such a shock that I’m pissed cause now I have to go out and buy the next two books. I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10. It’s got it’s problems and could have maybe done with another draft but overall it was a fine read. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Note
If E and L are together, her lifestyle makes perfect sense and mirrors that of other wives & girlfriends of very wealthy men. Housekeeper of their ten bedroom mansion, supervising cleaning, gardening and pool staff, walking the dogs and taking them to the vets and for grooming sessions. All that easily fills a day. Her wardrobe is full of very expensive four & five figure items that I don't think she could afford on a beard's salary, nor do I think brands like Armani would work with her if she wasn't Louis' actual girlfriend (and Larries always maintain that Larry is an open secret in the industry, so they would know).
I don't think you can judge a couple's 'chemistry' unless you actually spend time with them but Louis and Eleanor look close and happy in the candids from weddings that we get or from New Year's Eve, when they're always together while Harry vacations in the Caribbean.
Is there a typical salary for a beard? I can’t seem to find it on Glassdoor…
I think Louis and Eleanor are partners. And you’re correct to say the role she plays in his life probably takes up most of her time. But even if they aren’t romantically involved, I don’t think he views her as a mere employee. I mean, Oli is technically an employee, but he’s also Louis’ good friend. Honestly, I think Oli’s function in Louis’ life potentially says a lot about the Elounor dynamic, but people don’t see it that way for some reason. It’s very much a double standard, in my opinion.
I think Louis takes care of Eleanor. I think he’s generous with her. No matter their dynamic, I don’t necessarily think she gets a monthly check or anything. I can’t stress this enough: In a lot of ways, Louis and Eleanor are partners and I don’t think this relationship is as regimented or prescribed as some people want to believe. In the back of my mind, the only exception to that is the possibility that he has her under a pretty strict NDA. I only say that because of the change in her social media presence when they got back together. But maybe that’s her own choice or a decision they’ve reached together.
