guys. eddie has literally only dated 3 people ever. him and shannon were bad for each other but there were also Circumstances and basically none of that is exclusively his fault. ana he realized he just wasn’t in love with so he broke up with her. happens. i don’t really think that’s “terrorizing” her. marisol ok sure he asked her to move in and then move out, so i guess there’s that. but i’m giving him a pass on the dead wife doppelgänger cheating thing because well. that’s Insane. and i think should be considered an extenuating circumstances.

#I reiterate my belief that after Fingolfin’s death a lot of East Beleriand started calling Maedhros ‘(High) King’#while maedhros’s position was that he didn’t give a fig what people called him#so long as they did what he told them; held the line against the enemy wherever it was still possible#and didn’t bitch too hard if/when he followed Fingon into hell if necessary for personal reasons; and dragged them all along#to provide as much backup as necessary#ofc it turned out that due to extenuating circumstances he was UNABLE to follow Fingon into hell#which is really where everything went wrong(er) for Maedhros#and…subsequently for everyone else#then in the second age Celebrimbor’s position is like… he considers that technically. TECHNICALLY. /TECHNICALLY/.#he should be high king of the noldor by birthright#but his family gave it up and then his family stopped DESERVING it#and then he LEFT his family (not actually in this order)#and also he does NOT WANT the job#and this gil-galad kid is really good at it! Celebrimbor unironically supports him! so!#he will say none of the above aloud except the ardent support part; lest anyone get any ideas (either followers or political foes)#and if he happens to end up ruling a city-state based on crafting-based meritocracy; well; he earned that fair and square#he always listens when gil-galad tells him to do things unless the things are very stupid and he has a better idea - @tanoraqui
After Maedhros abdicates most of the Fëanorian host does swear loyalty to Fingolfin. It's just that their oaths of loyalty to Maedhros are a lot more thorough and convincing, while their oaths to Fingolfin never actually name the High King they're swearing their loyalty to and indicate that said High King derives his mandate from the Fëanorians' permission.

hey sam, totally understand if you don't want to get into this, but i'm curious how you interpret your tarot reading for the year in light of the election results?
So, I have two replies to this, but I do want to say despite responding that I really I appreciate the permission not to respond. Especially because this is going to be a form of non-response, but only because of extenuating circumstances. I know that I'm never required to respond to an ask, but I always feel bad if I don't, so it's helpful to know the asker understands.
First -- I could go back and look at the reading and look at the world and see what there is to be seen, but...that's fun when it's like "Oh, the reading predicted Dracula Daily, how interesting". It's not really as fun when we're talking about deeply unsettling and dangerous political events. And I'm not sure I'm in a headspace for it, being honest. The reading itself feels like it aged poorly, although some of its advice is still sound.
Second, and honestly to me more relevant, is the fact that I've found this specific spread is not really ideal for this purpose. As a personal reading, Four Royal Advisors seems fine, especially if you're trying to just take a vague look at the future rather than predict the course of a coming year. When I've tried doing the "new year's" reading for the coming year, it always seemed to stall out in autumn and not cover the full year. So I don't know if it would have any particular insight after Halloween in any case.
On the plus, I do have a new reading that is specifically designed to be a "coming year" reading and to cover the full year, so hopefully this month and certainly before New Year's I'll be debuting that and trying it for next year. I'm a little concerned about what it might tell us, but I think we're all rather concerned for the future, so that feels normal.

I agree with the tags but I'm interested in hearing more of your thoughts (or book recs) about a 4b movement, if you're comfortable sharing. I only just learned about it this week
I mean, I believe in their beliefs. In addition to being a practical way to find out how respectful Jakey is when your ability to say “no” stops being entirely hypothetical, I think witholding stuff from men is funny.
4B seems like a neat side-project and a healthy outlet for frustration, but because it doesn't benefit anyone except the women who practice it—to be clear, that alone is enough reason to do it—I give 0 farts and -2 shits about the particulars. Your lifelong dream of not marrying, fucking, or procreating with men is being realized tomorrow. Sadly, my dream of actionable feminist politics and solidarity is further away than ever.
We're all grown ups here, right? We can admit there are better than even odds that when the clock strikes midnight, the movement turns into a bunch of internet shut-ins policing themselves and each other about which B is allowed under extenuating circumstances, which makes you a traitor to the cause, etc. until it devolves into radfem goldstar bickering that I just got so bored imagining I fell asleep in the middle of writing thi.fbbfbbfjjjkkk
Where was I? Oh, yeah. 4B. It's fine. The way people talk about it can get corny but here, at the end of all things, there are worse crimes than being corny. The only book rec I got is Aristophanes' Lysistrata , Jeff Henderson has a good translation, but get the Ruden translation if ya nasty.

buck/eddie | 14k | teen and up | post 8x01, buckley-diaz family angst, eddie nde, slexie death confession but make it buddie
tw plane crash, blood, injuries
“It’ll kill me if you die, Eddie,” Buck rasps. “You hear me? It’ll kill me. So you have to stay alive, okay? You have to live. You have to live because we’re supposed to end up together. So you can’t… die on me.” “Buck…” “We’re going to get Chris back, and we’re going to shake some sense into him, and then we’re gonna… we’re gonna be a family who has… waffles for breakfast every Sunday and lasagna for dinner every night until you tell me you’re sick of it because it’s all I ever make. We’re gonna move Chris into some stupid college dorm and I’m gonna make him miserable because I’m gonna kiss you in front of his roommate, and-and, hey, I’ll even go to those stupid… Lakers games, and I won’t even complain because you’ll be there.” Eddie’s mouth fights for a smile again. “You—you’d complain.” “I would.” Buck thumbs at the tears on Eddie’s cheeks and ignores the streaks of warmth spilling over his own. “I’m gonna complain so much, but I’m gonna love it… because—because it’s you. We’re meant to be, Eddie. We always have been.” “That’s…” Eddie manages another fractured smile before he tenses beneath Buck’s hand, once, twice, then his eyelids flutter, and his eyes go dim and flat.

they wouldn't let me write the live action Disney adaptions because I would have had the best Ping you have ever seen. He and Shang would have had chemistry that took your breath away. They would be Yearning. the audience would be Yearning. it would be electric and terrifying and by marika would Mulan/Ping be hot. Shang is obsessed, the audience is obsessed. there would be hardly be a person in the attendance that doesn't Get where Shang is coming from. who wouldn't rend their clothes and scream to the heavens over Mulan/Ping. she takes no prisoners.
and yes, Shang kisses him in the snow as he cradles Ping's injured, dying body.
and yes, from the opening scene to the rolling credits he's going slowly mad.
and the first time you see Mulan she's dressed in the most feminine, floaty, light-colored dressy robes, with bone white makeup and painted lips and you fall in love with her. and there's something underneath, too. and it's so intriguing.
and then she shows up as Ping, and it takes a while to get used to, and it's kind of funny and awkward. but then it looks better and better to you. and soon you find you can hardly bear it when the camera turns away from him for even a second. and Ping isn't awkward to be around at all, he's stunning and brave and resilient and determined to be kind and you're desperately in love with him and you decide he looks incredible in the warriors' robes, actually. and his smile makes you want to kiss him. it makes Shang want to scream. and to kiss him.
and then comes the last leg. and she's got the gender-neutral robes, the "neutral" stage makeup. the loose updo. and you've never been as attracted to anyone in your life as Shang is to her. and you get it. you really, really get it. and wow the way the cuff of her sleeves and the silhouette of her robes make your heart clench. and the way her posture, her gait, make a new kind of sense. you can feel this is It. this is The Costume. you're obsessed and Shang is obsessed.
And then in the end, she's wearing pretty soft-colored robes and it makes you think for a moment that she looks like she did at the beginning. but then actually something makes her strength visible too. is it the cut of the costume? her posture? the framing of the shots? Yes it is. and you know, when Shang shows up, You know he can see it too. and he doesn't want to stop looking any more than you do. and he isn't going to even when you do.
every kid that ever watched my Mulan would recall it as Formative, like y'alls Danny Phantom but on the sickest steroids ever invented. She'd be irresistible. and so very gender.

tim rejecting kon as robin because he believes kon already rejected tim and so would be disappointed once he finds out....this is the worst ending yet...i love it....
(this scenario) listen, tim is so smart and strategic and logical and also (especially post-breakup/misunderstanding) would plan for every single outcome except the one where he is actually wanted

so cass can easily forgive a child killer but not kate or jason?
I'm not an expert on the Kate incident (I'm currently reading that run, haven't gotten to that yet) so this reply will stick to Cass and Jason. My previous post was specifically about Jason anyway - a different person would necessitate a different post. Anyhow, it's not so much the substance of the killings itself as the person's attitude to it - as I said in my previous post, Cass can forgive killers, as long as the killer themself has repented and wants to change. That's why I said the onus would be on Jason: Cass is willing to give people a chance, but the person has to want that chance first.
I understand where you're coming from with this question, but the point of my post was that in fandom discussions, too often it's Cass who has to compromise her morality in order to 'get along' with Jason. This just isn't in line with how Cass is portrayed throughout most of her publication history, where she has arguably the most strict moral sense in the family. Moreover, I think this is a disservice to Jason - I don't think he would really care if Cass 'forgave' him, as long as he feels he is doing right. Cass doesn't owe Jason forgiveness, and Jason doesn't necessarily need it, either.
Again, it depends on Jason. If he shows remorse for his murders (and gives up killing entirely and irrevocably) Cass could for sure get along with him. If this is your interpretation of Jason (which has some canon precedence), then yeah, Cass would forgive him! However, against a pro-killing interpretation of Jason, I doubt Cass would be the first to budge.

you are more attractive than people who have garnered international attention for their hotness. the fact you can't find someone to kiss you like they mean it is deeply confusing to me.
I'm off-puttingly autistic in person, to basically everyone except other autistic people (and sometimes adhd people)

So, since apparently I'm in a DC posting mood right now, you all want to hear this concept that's been baking in my mind for a while now?
Stephanie Brown is the same level of crimefighter as Bruce Wayne. Hear me out.
First, a common thematic reading of the Batfamily, especially the Batkids, is that all of them are in some way better than Bruce at one specific thing. Like with the equally broad thematic reading of 'All of Batman's rogues reflect a part of his psyche' this doesn't entirely hold up to scrutiny and doesn't apply to all of the Batkids, but it applies to enough: Dick is the better leader, Babs is the better strategist, Tim is the better detective, Cass is the better fighter, you get the idea. Now, normally when considering this reading the consensus for Steph is that she is the negative archetype, similar to how the Joker is interpreted in the rogues reading - an inverse of the common rule, in this case meaning that Steph isn't particularly good at anything. Some people who take this reading end this part with 'And that's why I love her!' - most don't. But I think that's entirely wrong, and to explain why we need to examine Bruce's own past.
In most versions of the Batman origin, there's a period, usually immediately or closely after Bruce graduating from either high-school or college, where Bruce travels the world, seeking masters of specific disciplines and learning all he can from them. The amount of people he meets is extensive - seriously, I have a word doc of 40 names and that's not even all of them - and later stories, particularly the Nolan trilogy, Batman/The Shadow, and IIRC Batman: Earth One, try to par that down to a single entity - The League of Shadows, The Shadow, and Alfred, respectively - teaching him all that is necessary to become Batman. It's not a change I particularly like, for one simple reason - the trek around the globe is as much metatexual as it is backstory. Like many of the prototypical superheroes, Batman isn't just one thing, he's many influences that Bill Finger brought to the table when creating him - he's a pulp hero like the Shadow, an adventure swashbuckler like Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel, a detective like Sherlock Holmes, all melding together to form our concept of 'Batman'. Having him learn from all these disparate sources - from ninjas and car thieves and magicians and detectives - seems like a way of acknowledging that breadth of influence, and I can't help but feel like limiting it to only Ra's or Lamont or Alfred takes away from that.
So, what does all that have to do with Stephanie Brown? Well, think about it - almost all of the Batfamily have only one real mentor - there are exceptions, like Tim basically becoming Babs' apprentice in No Man's Land and Cass' very funny shared custody situation, but mainly all of the Batkids learn from Batman, and what they excel at they were just kind of naturally good at anyway - Babs and Cass especially, no shade. With Steph, though? It's not as impressive as Bruce's list, but she learns general Cowl skills with Bruce, hacking and cryptography with Babs, detective skills with Tim, get fighting tips from Cass and Black Canary, is taught teamwork by Kate, evasion skills with Damian (that last one may not be purposeful), plus whatever else she can learn because, unlike the rest of the Batfamily, at least Pre-Flashpoint Steph was always learning.
True, Steph started out with very few practical skills in crimefighting, but you know who else did that? Bruce - every single time a comic or adaptation has shown him attempting to fight crime before the training trek has him absolutely suck at it. At the very least Steph never decided to stop her dad by attempting to assassinate him in a courthouse full of witnesses by veeery slowly pointing a gun at him, like Nolanverse Bruce.
Bottom line? If one more person says Steph 'isn't particularly skilled at anything', I will chew glass.

the thing to me about the doied stuff, and this is only partially because i hate angst so i wouldn't be that interested in it lingering, is that if it weren't for the entire shitshow that the server had already become and then worsened into, i don't think it would've taken qcellbit very long at all to figure out it wasn't actually roier. i think he would've figured it out pretty damn fast on his own, and then with pepito's help would've really been like "hey, that's not adding up," and would've gotten to the bottom of it immediately. like i'm not trying to be optimistic atp i truly think that would've been solved very quickly and we would've gotten our beautiful reunion.
but because of purgatory in the first place and then cellbit taking breaks and then the reset (where ccs were told not to do lore heavy stuff and then literally weren't able to regardless), we didn't get any of it. cellbit had to shrug off pepito's attempts at pushing him in the right direction because the admins weren't ready for it/wouldn't allow it (and because he and roier both didn't feel up for heavy rp stuff at the time), and roier never got saved and cellbit never came back to the server at all before the final event. so i think it's a bit unfair to be like "cellbit always said he'd recognize an imposter roier and then he didn't!!!!" when in point of fact he literally could not do so within rp. he had to keep his mouth shut and not get suspicious about any differences, and roier himself was barely ever rping anything differently anyway (and said so explicitly). so what we got was a whole lot of nothing, not through either of their faults (and i don't want to blame anyone other than higher ups and broader communication issues for the choices made here).
idk it just rubs me the wrong way when people ignore meta reasons for things when they really are important for this kind of stuff within the narrative. like, it's not cellbit's fault either that his murder arc got cut short and never got a conclusion-- that was directly because of purgatory! despite him being told literally days beforehand that he could keep going with the arc and get to do all the stuff he planned! it's not baghera's fault that her federation experiment stuff got dropped completely!!! it's not antoine or charlie or max or pol's faults that their shit got ruined! it's not any rper's fault that they were not communicated with appropriately/plans were abruptly changed on them and therefore they couldn't execute any of their planned lore. it's where the cards fell, because of decisions out of their control, and that blows and means there's no canonical closure, but that doesn't mean that like. qcellbit canonically failed to recognize someone else in his husband's skin. it just means that cellboier didn't get to do what they had planned (like four times over, tbc, because they had stuff planned before the eggs went missing, before purgatory, before the reset, and then even after the reset) and the story never got to be finished. which is depressing and disappointing but it feels inaccurate to frame the characters themselves as at fault.
