I was fixing my hair when a patient checked in, so i stopped, got their vitals, then returned to the computer to put the vitals in and quickly fixed it (in a less elaborate way than i had originally planned since the usual sudden deluge of patients had clearly started for the evening). I had just started to call the next person up when the patient's family member went "uh-uh, no, you did not just do that to your hair in 5 seconds and two little hair clips, what!'
I kind of half-turned back to awkwardly be like 'i mean. I did. But also the line is like five people deep so i can't really demonstrate' but they went 'no, no, i see you're busy, i see it. But i wanna see that again, but slower. Sometime.'
Then i went on my lunch and they were nowhere to be seen when i got back, but the secret is 1) halfass brush your hair that morning because you're running late, then try and fail like five times over the course of the training class and early part of your shift to make the squished bun you had the day before stay fucking put, then start the process for a braid before going welp the fuckin tuesdaymonday bus just arrived at ye olde emergency department and instead just wrapping the one single section you managed to divide out around the rest like a ponytail holder and then clip the tail twice at the base. It stays mostly because it's ratted together due to the aforementioned halfass brushing and multiple restylings without further brushings. Not a desirable state for hair, really.
Anyway. The triage nurse was like 'are those iridescent skeleton hands' and 'how the fuck do you always have such weird cute stuff' and the secret to that is poor impulse control when confronted with the 3 dollar aisle at target or the holiday displays at cvs.
#hair and i are in a stalemate#i don't piss it off and it doesn't try to kill me#i don't remember if this is grandma or grandpa hair or if i get it from my dad's side but it always drove my mom nuts#'mom will you show me how to do *insert complex braid here*' i would ask#of my mother whose hair laughs in the face of any styling and is very fine and very straight and this grew up not learning any of that#'...why don't we go early to dance class and debbie's mom can help'#i wore the hell out of the little activity book of hairstyles and i think she was very relieved once volleyball started#and we started doing braiding circles before tournaments so i learned how to french and dutch braid on others and myself#early on in my time at the triage desk one of the nurses saw me dutch braiding half my head and went 'what the hell mar'#and i about had a heart attack because i had not yet learned how to read that nurse so i was like 'o fuck i'm gonna get shredded'#and instead she was like 'can you do my hair after'#which was. surreal. but sure

#don't be a nurse guys#nursing school sucks ass#and if you do become a nurse don't go to my school because my school sucks even more ass#shoutout to my professor for being so fucking bad that we got kicked out of our clinical site#(technically she got kicked out the students didn't but we can't go without an instructor so we had a dif instructor twice but the rest of#our clinicals will be in our school lab)#because now whenever i complain about my school i dont have to talk about how they never update the paperwork and the syllabus is full of#lies and the teachers are almost all part-time and never communicate with one another so no one knows what's going on#and the head of the department doesn't like answering questions and just directs you to the rubric that is of course full of lies#(and our project says we get groups of three but we only get groups of two? and they kept saying they'd assign groups but they didn't?#so we picked our own partner except they didn't really make that clear and the decision wasn't even made until at least a week after we#were supposed to have our partners picked for us? and then the course calendar says we have to do a PowerPoint for the project but we dont#it's actually a poster but they never updated the calendar except wait they have changed the calendars like four times since the semester#started and half the time didn't even announce it and they just never changed the PowerPoint thing)#but yeah instead of saying all that shitty stuff about my school i can just point to the fact that we got booted out of the clinical site#because our instructor sucked so much and that gets the point across pretty damn well with a lot fewer words#okay rant over gonna go to homework until dance starts#and then probably do homework after dance too#fuck my life ✌️

So my coworker said she was going to go do landscaping in the last hour before I left for the day which was fine. It was getting to be around 12:45 and she wasn't back in so I went to check the garbages and see where she was. I got to the last garbage can on pump 7/8 and she got out of her car. I don't know if she was in it the entire time bc she likes to do the garbage behind the dumpster. But it's really frustrating being the one stuck on register doing all the work while she goes outside and sits in her car and does whatever. I feel like we shouldn't have to babysit her. I got so mad at her I started shaking and I slammed the money counter down on the counter and counted my drawer in like 2 minutes and we didn't say a word to each other and I went and stood in the office and sent a message to my manager about her. Like when will anything she do be enough to upper management for her to get fired? or is she just gonna be here forever, just letting her get away with anything and everything?
#I'm done making up for them#I didn't stock the cigarettes at all today#I only stocked and didn't organize the cooler.
