Ok so I'm watching the new TDP season and it's Amaya and Janai's wedding. For Sunforge side of the wedding traditions, Kazi is performing a Blessing of the Sun - but as cool as all that is thats not what I'm crying over.

My genderqueer they/them ass is sobbing over the fact that this show that I have grown up with for years, has given us genderqueer folk some rep in the form OF THE ADORABLE KAZI!!!! IVE ALWAYS LOVED THEM BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE HEARD THEM BE REFERRED TO WITH THIER PRONOUNS AND IM SO HAPPY THAT THEYRE MY REP.

Anyway this is why representation is important. I am so happy right now. DT, love you, but move aside, this show is more nostalgic for me so Kazi gets all of my genderqueer projection.

Okay who’s interested in hearing about the school au I thought up in the shower

Keep in mind that all following information is based on my experience in British education, I have no clue how American schools run different

First we have the kids - James and Henri are both kids from the foster system, James has been adopted by Moses, whilst Henri is still technically a foster (ik ik not Franklin but maybe they’re neighbours). Henri is definitely the class clown whilst James is ambitious, but not too sure how to achieve his academic goals. Sarah is an exchange student from the UK living with Franklin, who is either a relative in this au or a family friend like in canon. She and James initially don’t get along but over time through the newspaper club and sharing most classes they grow closer. Sarah is an A+ student and she tutors James and Henri after school.

Most historical figures are teachers or general staff, except for named foot-soldiers like Joseph Plum Martin or other young historical figures like Sybil Ludington, who would be fellow students

Franklin - the kids’ (or at least James and Sarah’s) tutor (I think Americans call it home room?). He teaches science, and it’s his love of teaching that’s kept him from retiring (though he probably should have years ago). He runs the school newspaper (which James and Sarah are both a part of)

Moses - I can see him as a member of the site team or subject technician of some kind (basically helps to prepare stuff like experiments and maintain the school, but more responsibilities than a janitor). He’s also doing an online university course to get his teaching degree (he’d most likely go into either engineering/dt). The adopted Father for James and foster parent to Henri. Has known Franklin for years and the two are next door neighbours

Lafayette - French. Obviously. He’s a younger teacher popular with the students. His class is the only one Henri doesn’t goof around in, and the two are very close (spoilers: he may end up adopting him). Constantly asking the finance department to let him take a class trip to France. If anyone acts up enough to make him mad the class all turns on that one person (based on my mother’s experience (coincidentally she was also a languages teacher lol)). Often gossips and speaks with Hamilton in French.

Adams - idk if they teach law or politics in American high schools but if not then he’s probably an English teacher. His students live in terror or presenting essays or debates because no one can beat the man. You either love him or hate him, there’s no in between with his classes. Probably head of the department

Hamilton - probably either English or history (though maths is also a contender because he was treasury secretary). Also a younger teacher popular with the students. Has almost gotten into a fight with other teachers. And students. Definitely runs the debate club. Expects assignments in a week before the deadline. Is one of the leaders in staff room gossip.

Washington - I know most people make him the head teacher but I’m not a huge fan of that. He’ll probably end up as the head eventually for this au, but for most of it I imagine him is a department head. I can see him teaching either history, maths or geography (he was a surveyor after all, I could see him being a really good geography teacher). He’s that teacher that looks intimidating but is actually very nice. Believes way more in practical than theory and WILL drag his class outside in any and all weather to do a study. He also looks after any of the animals the school owns. Sometimes brings his dog to class. Is DEFINITELY involved in staff room gossip

Abigail Adams - I can see her as either the school nurse or some sort of creative arts teacher

Phillis Wheatley - definitely either an English teacher (damn we got a lot of those) and if not then some sort of creative arts teacher who also runs a poetry club. If anyone acts up in her class the other students ensure the body is never found.

Please suggest what subjects and the sort other historical figures would teach or any other ideas you have relating to this! ^^ Idk if I’ll draw anything based on this but it’s fun to brainstorm!

Related to my previous post, since I can't go a day without talking or thinking about FFXIV these days, I saw some more interview material with Yoshi-P about Dawntrail and I'm worried because it feels like they're so strongly tied to fan feedback.

(Spoiler for all of 7.0 MSQ)

They always have been super receptive to feedback and used it to steer the story, but I also wonder where the limit to that lies.

He specifically talked about handling the cast going forward: about the "half-hearted" use of the Scions in Dawntrail vs using a new cast.

He brought up two extremes as an example: only focusing on the Scions or ommitting them entirely and bringing in an entirely new cast (since both perspectives exist), reaching the conclusion that they might simply be rotated in terms of focus.

And through all of this, I'm just thinking about the possibility of going with what the most "natural" solution for the purposes of the story would be. Which characters does it actually call for?

The option of all of the cast being given meaningful participation depending on what the story they want to tell asks for instead of what the fans ask for.

What do the writers themselves want to do?

I at least get the sense they have a stronger sense of direction in terms of story because of the feedback now, which I felt they were struggling with in DT because it took so long to get to the answers/get going with the story, but I hope they don't overcorrect (like they tend to do).

There is a place for gradual escalation and taking your time in stories.

I'm thinking about what the polar opposite of DT would be and I think it's a story where a lot of stuff happens and none of it has any time to breathe as opposed to taking a while to get where it wants to get.

The potential issue with that kind of story would be that none of the big turning points would have the weight behind them they need because you're going through them so quickly.

Downtime is also there to fill in character stories and if none of that is there along with lesser world building, you would just have an empty plot skeleton.

Or alternatively, the world wouldn't feel as alive and well-defined. Which generally isn't as bad of a price to pay, especially if the substance is still there, but instead being put in side quests as was also mentioned as an option for streamlining story pacing in one of the interviews I read.

So, a story focusing on select Scions with meaningful contributions (though they could just give all of them meaningful contributions that further the story; the black and white aspect of this is wierd), but an otherwise new cast that gets going somewhat faster actually does sound like quite a bit of an improvement over 7.0.

Say, hard focus on Krile, Y'Shtola and G'raha for now because of the Reflection and Interdimensional Key business to look into.

Thancred, Urianger, Estinien and the twins can chill for now.

Because Erenville has the general goal of exploration now, he can technically join any adventure. And to me these four feel like they have a bunch to explore as characters as far as current focus goes.

I think G'raha's connection to Corvos and the Reflection business, Krile's connection to the South Sea Isles/Preservation, Y'Shtola's lack of a truly substantial arc along with her wish to connect the Reflections to The Source and Erenville's new beginning all feel pretty worthwhile and substantial elements to explore next to the Azem/Key connection for the WoL, for example.

And further down the line, I think Meracydia with its connection to dragons would have more to do for Estinien and Garlemald's provinces for the twins.

Thancred and Urianger feel like the most complete characters to me that I can't think of anything specific to do with, but since Thancred has experience sneaking around the provinces, I think they would definitely fit there with the twins.

In terms of the unexplored world/world covered by clouds, I think only Hingashi doesn't have much of a Scion connection to play off of for more story opportunities; Tataru was most active in Kugane, which does count and we do also have some of the Stormblood crew as a possible anchor there, so it's not entirely without any, just not as possibly strong ties.

Above all, I definitely see the opportunity for 10 more years of story.

An expansion for Meracydia, an expansion for Garlemald's provinces and an expansion for even all of Hingashi are all 6 possible years alone.

But we also have a bunch of the reflections to discover, four of them, to be specific.

And each of them could also be an expansion, in addition to us not really being fully done with the 13th or 1st.

They have plenty of material to work with, which is one of the issues long-running series run into; having to come up with new stuff with no previous backing. Not an issue here.

I mean whatever they do, I ultimately hope it's good.

I didn't hate DT, so it's pretty low probability I'll hate whatever they put out next if the focus point is to address the general criticisms people have while still doing their own thing, especially now that they have some groundwork to lean on.

Happy Dawntrail Full Launch Day Everyone!

So technically I’m still on hiatus from Tumblr as I’m not finished with the DT msq yet, but I wanted to make a post wishing everyone a good launch day and I hope the queues aren’t horrible for you! 🥰

Don’t worry, this is NO SPOILERS, but I’m in the 3rd zone, level 95 MSQ, and so far the design of the zones and the world building overall is absolutely fantastic! As a Latina, I knew I’d be going into this expansion with many high expectations, but so far, I’ve enjoyed every moment learning about Tural, its history, cultures, and its peoples. I can’t stop looking around at the landscapes and getting excited about it. I have some minor complaints so far that I won’t go into, but overall I’m loving this experience and I can’t wait for the second half of the story (Come on, I’m dying to see Solution Nine!!!). Oh and Picto is AWESOME and it’s my new favorite DPS job by far. I haven’t tried new Astro yet however, so I’ll have to see how I feel about the changes to my healer main.

Anyways, I’m going to go back to leveling, and I’ll be back once I’m done with the msq! Happy Dawntrailing everyone!!! 🌞🌮🍹

GitS Asks!

It's all good ;P and no, not yet! He's been trying, especially with Ghost sleeping a lot more recently, but he has not yet succeeded. The problem is that Ghost can hear Don prepping the tagging gun.

Oh yeah. He regrets it a lot. Especially when Leo goes "well if you hadn't LEFT-" all dramatically. Leo's half-joking, but it really does just. Stab Ghost with guilt. He wishes he'd been strong enough to stay with them when they were younger. He could've helped Splinter a lot more, and they wouldn't have such abandonment issues now.

Ghost enjoys the absolute chaos coming from them even though he would never listen to this kind of music itself. Technically spoilers, but the boys don't actually tell Ghost that they're going to perform at Albeartoland. It's a very secret thing. Can you imagine the heart attack that man would have? It'd be insane.

He does. This is exactly why he printed out the pictures.

He's still a bit stubborn about it, but Ghost can get him to cave and admit fault pretty quickly.

Ghost has met them both! Dr. Delicate Touch he appreciates. It lets Mikey get out his anger, even though there's definitely kinder ways to put things, but Mikey generally pulls Dr. DT out when he's needed. Dr. Feelings, Ghost always gently puts his hands on his shoulders and tells him thank you for the reminders, but Mikey doesn't need to be the family therapist. He can help by being a little brother. Ghost will help them if they're having problems, as best he can, and they can talk about it as a family.

Mikey asks who's going to help Ghost with his problems, and Ghost just rubs his head and changes the subject.

Maybe one day Splinter accidentally leaves the manhole cover off as he's sneaking out for supplies. Maybe the kids followed him. Maybe Ghost is in the Hidden City, too far from his way home to get to them fast enough before they leave the safety net of his cameras.

He doesn't know what happened. He just knows that he finds only Mikey, hidden tucked away beneath a dumpster inside of his shell. Ghost pulls him out and coaxes him out and Mikey bawls and tells him that Leo and Raph and Donnie were taken by somebody.

Ghost takes Mikey back to the lair and is waiting there when Splinter arrives. There's a bit of panicking and yelling between the two. Splinter's scared Ghost has hurt his children, Ghost is angry at Splinter for being so careless. So begins Ghost's hunt.

Raph isn't easy to find, but he is the first purely because he's still on the surface. The EPF has him, and Ghost has been hunting for mentions of the EPF since he first saw youkai. He's never found any, but following what happened to the kids via camera shows Donnie and Leo being taken into the Hidden City while Raph was basically sold by a yokai in disguise to the EPF. It's been two months already.

Ghost doesn't use guns, but it's the first time he really thinks about it. Unlike usual, he has no plan. Instead, he goes in, mystic ability blazing out of pure rage and desperation. He finds Raph in a small cage, muzzled and whimpering in fear until he recognizes Ghost. Ghost gets the muzzle off, gets him out of there. Kills Bishop for good measure with Raph tucked into his cloak so he can't see.

He doesn't find Donnie for a year since they were grabbed. He doesn't have the power of technology in the Hidden City like he does above-ground. He gets him out of there. Leaves the Battle Nexus in ruins and Big Mama very dead.

Leo is with Draxum. Draxum is finding out he's terrible with kids. Leo is causing chaos wherever he goes. Draxum is fine with giving Leo back to be raised. He'll come back for him, though.

(I realized how long this was getting halfway through and went the more silly route with Leo fhgdkjfgdh)

Ghost can tell he's got self-worth issues. He doesn't approach it head-on, instead he's just trying to gentle push Leo in the right direction. He knows being a teenager is rough. Especially with how their lives are. But he also doesn't want Leo wallowing in that mindset for too long.

The one unwavering thing about Ghost is his desire to keep the boys as just kids enjoying kid things. He’s still trying to hold onto that hope that he can do it even now, despite the piling warning signs that he’s in over his head (they all are). He blames himself when the kids worry about him or get into trouble he can’t prevent. Unfortunately for him, it’s a universal constant that the reason they become heroes/save the world is simply because they’re the only ones who can. It’s honestly a really interesting and potentially painful realization, if he ever has it. He resembles his father so much without even realizing it, and is going through the exact same emotional struggle 03 Splinter did during the series. Hell, it’s probably the one common ground (besides love for their sons) that he and Rise Splinter will have now as things get progressively more dangerous. I just. Man Ghost’s Splinter would be so proud of him today and no one in the Riseverse can even tell him that.

Ghost is incredibly hard on himself. He's depressed! He's got anxiety! Spending 24 years alone meant that all those bad thoughts were never interrupted. Everything negative he ever thought of himself was never interrupted, it just compounded on itself over and over until it was no longer a bad thought to him but the truth.

03 Splinter would be so proud of his son. He would be sad he never tried to reach out for company in a world where he could have (in the Hidden City) when they came from a world where they couldn't. He'd be sad that Ghost is torturing himself when it wasn't his fault.

Rise Splinter's the only one who could tell Ghost that his father would be proud of him, but coming from Splinter, it feels cruel. So Splinter says nothing, and Ghost continues to punish himself.
