Character details in the Wolf King trailer that I love.
Tumblr media
Hector’s pouch sash is such a genius character piece. Completely in character for him to have all of his magister supplies on hand.
Tumblr media
Aside the hair ornaments that I mentioned in a previous post, I love the floral designs on Gretchen’s outfit. Also the detail her hair is actually tied back into a long braid is also a great addition. It gives her a fox-like silhouette even while she’s human.
Tumblr media
Shout out to Whitley’s hoodie and hair braids.
The fact the slot for her staff doesn’t interfere with the design on her jacket works really well.
Tumblr media
I can’t help but chuckle at the fact Lucas’s shoulder pauldrons/spaulders are literal lion paws.
That had to be an intentional pun on the character designers part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also just the overall design of Lucas’s outfit appears so much more ornate than his father’s armor. It sells the idea that Lucas is a spoiled brat, while Leopold was the conqueror. One is for ceremony, the other is for war.
Tumblr media
Just.
Everything with the Wyldermen. From mere savages in the books to something truly nightmarish in this series.
Coldblood here looks particularly amazing.
Tumblr media
Vega’s fin rings are such an in character detail for him to have. But it does propose a question.
Where do they go when he transforms?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last, but not least, for a character who will only be in one episode, Tilly has various little details I want to point out.
Her hand tattoos intrigued me when I first saw the latter shot. Initially thinking it was Drew’s hand (a ‘sacred birth mark’ kind of thing) until I went through the trailer a second time.
The earrings and piercings are also an interesting detail to her character. Especially given the pelt and furs aesthetic they seem to be giving the Cold Coast in the show.
Given we later learn Tilly was a maid for Queen Amalie and Weregar, maybe these are sort of seeds that plant that connection?
The first things the hand tattoos reminded me of was tattoos Native American women, particularly Inuk women, would have.
Since I — and a few others if fanart is anything to go by — visualized the White Wolves of Shadowhaven, like Amalie, with an Inuit aesthetic. Could the show be implying that Tilly was a maid of Amalie in Shadowhaven that came to Highcliff when she married Weregar?
It would be easier for her to sell the idea that Drew’s her son if she came from the same region as Amalie.
Am I thinking to hard about this? Most definitely. But it’s been a worm in my ear and I had to share it.

The Deeper Meaning of Loan-Sharking
Warning: spoilers for both Red Dead games
The complexity of RDR2's story blows me away every fucking day because oh my god- the characters, the themes, the symbolism, the call backs to other medias and so on and so forth.
But here is one thing that stuck with me when I realized it for the first time-
The deeper meaning of the loan sharking missions.
The main purpose of those missions were obviously to show a change of character in Arthur Morgan- from a heartless enforcer, a plague to the down-trodden, to a heartbroken man, ashamed of his actions, and trying to remedy what he can without the hope for forgiveness because he knows he doesn't deserve it.
The loan sharking missions are the most obvious and in your face representation of Arthur's redemption arc.
But at its core, it felt like a nod to criticisms that the 1800s romantics and naturalists had towards the concept of civilization, a direct call back to Dutch's philosophy all throughout both RDR and RDR2.
What do I mean by this?
All throughout the game, the gang tries to fight civilization in an almost Robinhood esque way- these American knights wrecking havoc for the dreams of their outlaw king. They rob the rich, who Dutch sees as the reason for America's moral failure, and those who protect these rich men because they add to those men's power. It all sounds very noble but it's a useless and bloody fight.
Mac and Davey get killed, Jenny gets killed, Sean gets killed, Kieren gets killed, Hosea and Lenny get Killed, Molly gets killed.
This gang life for a dream that'll never be realized kills people and consumes them until there is nothing left but husks of people who had dreams of their own.
The romantic dream will only be a dream and the only place it can be a reality is in books and philosophies. Civilization is the truth- it saves humanity from the hell that is anarchy or so it seems.
The gang fought against the encroaching civilization that threatened to devour the West and Arthur followed Dutch and showed the same sentiments regarding civilization- and by following Dutch, he followed that same ideal, even if his heart wasn't fully in it.
The gang life- coming to an end and no longer sustainable- showed the impossibility of this beautiful dream as it destroyed everything but that wasn't the thing that killed Arthur in the end.
Tuberculosis killed Arthur. Tuberculosis from loan sharking.
"It's legal work, Mr. Morgan." Strauss to Arthur.
The legal work killed Arthur in the end, not the shootouts or gang feuds. The civilized work killed Arthur in the end. The civilized world beat Mr.Downes, a poor, dying man trying to do his best for his family. The civilized world killed Arthur Londonderry.
The civilized world and this legal work sucked the life out of the poor so rich men can get richer and take everything they can around for their greed can not be satiated.
The civilized work, the legal work killed Arthur Morgan.
The hypocrisy of it all is so heartbreaking because despite all the bad things the gang did, the philosophy, the too idealistic and romantic philosophy they fought for, that could never be realized in the world they lived in, held truth.
And that small monocum of truth kept Dutch fighting and fighting until he no longer could by commiting suicide.
Good God I love this game.

Inspired by @definesanity I went through some of the sounds in the level select stages and really listened. I silenced the BGM and left on sound effects to get a better picture.
Mountain Echoes (mineral insight) has echo effects and faint percussion
Starfall Locale (star insight) has twinkle effects! It also has an effect like raspy whisper or breath?
Sylvanus Shape (plant insight) has running water sounds and wildlife sounds. Birds and such.
Brutes Wilds (beast insight) sounds like metal clinking (reminds me of mining). Also a wind effect and creaks.
The Poussiere stages have birds chirping and animal noises. There is wind and waves as well.
Mintage aesthetics has a low hum and a clinking noise. Bells? Lots of metalic sounds and chimes. There are also deep voices vocalizing in the background (at least that's what it sounded like to me). I couldn't hear it until the BGM was off.
Harvest Prime is dead silence.
Artificial Somnambulism is wild without the bgm. It's like being underwater and in outer space at the same time. There are occasion mechanical noises too. It has a musicality to it...
In In Our Time Ch 1, the rain doesn't begin to fall until Stage 13, The Rattenfanger (Where Forget Me Not reveals his true intentions and The Storm).
In Ch1-7 Scorched Woods there are Critter sounds(?) and frogs. Birds and stuff. Woodsy sounds!
Ch 3 has children's voices and a mechanical hum to it.
Ch 3-2 doesn't have the children, but it has nature sounds and gulls. The mechanical whirring is louder too.
Ch 3-6 Black Sheep wall, it begins to rain...
The rain and children's laughter are gone again in ch3-7 Scottish. It's just the gulls, waves, wind, and the machine.
In 3-13 A Yard, you can here pages flipping
3-14 Lost Lambs has a thumping sound? Or maybe a tapping sound, like placing something down.
Ch 4 also has various wildlife sounds and the machine whirring
4-8 Both sides of the table has people's voices. This plays in a few other stages.
Ch 5-1 Bon Voyage very heavy rain! Makes sense. Ch 5 has lots of ocean sounds in general. And wildlife sounds

Some comments, in order of the images:
The gravel that looks like what the tree is standing in in the reading room? In a coffin?? And... blood being poured onto it??? And Louis coming up from that gravel???? Okay, I might be totally wrong here, but what if that is what the show does with the Merrick ending? OR that is when Louis is entombed and Armand revives him. But... 👀
This is post biting. Blood down his throat and down the shirt, as if someone attacked him. Or... as if someone bit and didn't mind the spilling.
Armand does seem to look at Louis there. And he seems quite vulnerable.
The coven master. The bored coven master. "The vampire is bored." (Alright, maybe Armand is not really bored here - BUT given how certain events work out because Armand is ready to let his coven go...)
Talk about a power setup/shot of the table.
Seems like this is a revenant given the background. Too bad, I had hoped it was Allessandra^^
Madeleine hurling the flat iron through the window where someone put a swastika on - I love it (as in the reaction), but of course it's going to be quite bitter to watch all that I bet.
Lestat screaming for Nicki. This is just a small taste of what's to come season 3 and ... we are not ready.
This shot with Lestat behind stage - that is the opposite direction that we got in the other trailer, and the caption of "memory is the monster" all over it. These... *beep*. Talk about visual storytelling. Contrary POVs and all that. This show, seriously. Down to the friggin' trailers and the sequence in which they are released.
That is probably before Armand offers his wrist. Interesting to include this here since it doesn't really add to it all. Or seems to.
And ... Lestat. Can I have hair like that? Pretty please? Louis gave him such a glow-up in his mind, seriously....
"What would Christ need have done to make me follow Him like Matthew or Peter? Dress well, to begin with. And have a luxurious head of pampered yellow hair."
*grumbles*
