my name is Hilal which is Arabic for crescent moon. my twin brother's name, Badr, means full moon.

dislikes: dishonesty, deadlines, sardines & fava beans, cleaning the pellets of Marmalade's midnight snacks (ew), social situations

speaking of, this is my eagle owl companion Marmalade. say hi!

she was gifted to me on my birthday by my father. she likes to nibble on barazek, syrian sesame biscuits. shes a bit odd but so am i & i love her very much.

✧ trivia and stuff:

as a daughter of Hades (long story), i have a certain affinity for the dark, but through a boon from Persephone (even longer story), i also possess some botanical abilities.

said powers shift with the changing seasons, and in all honesty im still learning about them myself, so bear with me.

i speak many languages; English and Arabic i grew up with, Chiron very kindly taught me Latin and Greek. in the summer holidays during highschool i learnt Turkish, Aramaic, and a little Farsi too.

i recently took up embroidery! i never knew stabbing could be so much fun but here we are ;)

im a practicing muslim Alhamdulillah, and my faith means a lot to me. it can be hard sometimes to wear the hijab and balance everything, but i try my best and thats what matters

funny story: shortly after my birth when we went to get the paperwork done, mama accidentally wrote her dad's name after mine on the forms, so my 'middle name' is my grandfather's name; Khalil, which is Arabic for friend or companion.

i dont have any weapons (i use my hardcover anatomy book if needs be), but im learning archery. looks cool and is quite fun

its also less taxing on my wrist; i underwent surgery about a year ago for CTS and am still hesitant to commit to strenuous physical activities, even knifesmanship. but im working on it

✧ people, places, and things:

after moving to camp half blood (february ish), the first camper i met was a young Will Solace! there werent many year round campers, but i saw Will every now an then when i went to pick up some pain killers from the infirmary. i still have the sunshine plasters (band-aids) he gave me :)

Nico i met when i was 19 i think, he showed me his mythomagic cards and i made pasta and pesto (a comfort food of mine)

he introduced me later on to Hazel, and i was overjoyed to have a little sister, which is only made funnier when you realise that i am technically the youngest XD

life seems significantly brighter with my new little family and close band of friends. i do hope being on tumblr will serve to strengthen the bonds and make new ones

chances are on any given day you can find me either in the library, the kitchenette over Chiron's study, my cosy room in the attic, or on my sunrise walk where i internally monologue and brood

after a wonderful and lengthy conversation with Lady Hestia over some tea and biscuits, the plans for a cabin of her own revolve around it being a sort of safe haven for relaxation and some peace when things get a little loud or overwhelming.

with her permission ill be using the second floor of the new Hestia cabin as an office for sessions for anyone who needs to let off some steam, have a good cry or a chat and some cookies.

this comes after my psychology & councelling degree and necessary training to qualify as the camps resident mental health councellor, because sometimes being a demigod is a bit much

jokes aside, i look forward to being of some comfort for those who need it in their time of need. baked goods work wonders too.

i have a satchel i carry with me nearly everywhere i bought it at the airport and its been my trusty companion since. i embroidered some (wonky) flowers and skulls with jewels for eyes on it :)

i made a few pendants back when i dabbled in epoxy resin art to make some coasters with flowers i picked. keychains were a bit harder so i only made 3; for hazel, myself, and nico respectively:

the phrase "Sub umbra floreo" is Latin for under the shade i flourish, which i think fits me well all things considered

my idea so far for this blog is recipies, interacting with fellow campers, Marmalade & Abercrombie, and other bits and bobs

Klarion is EXCITED. He's absolutely DELIGHTED even, unable to sit still as he flits from place to place. His baby cousin! Is! Visiting! Which OBVIOUSLY means he, as the older one, must make sure the main places are still standing so he can show his itty bitty baby cousin EVERYTHING! After all, he's never gotten to be the older one! He's always been the youngest in the family! But now he has an itty bitty toddler cousin- form recently shifted to match- to teach the ways of Chaos to! He's so EXCITED!

The League and heroes on the other hand, are Very concerned about Why the Witch Boy has been spotted in practically every major city in the US in the last few days. What is he planning?!

It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.

People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.

And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.

If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.

Superboys day off

no voldemort au where jegulus raises harry and marpanlily raises luna. sirius, remus, peter, barty, and evan are the cool uncles while dorcas and marlene are the cool aunts. there's nobleflower who got together later in life and who are currently living in one of the black family's ancestral homes in france with neville and draco. (frank is around frequently and lucius isn't around at all.)

neville and draco being brothers. neville telling alice about draco's crush on blaise and draco chasing him around the school, landing them both in detention.

luna and harry being siblings. while neville and draco, their cousins, are fighting, they simply sit back and watch. they adore each other and, if they can help it, are almost never seen apart.

harry being a slytherin. he rooms with draco and blaise, is best friends with pansy, and still frequently visits hermione, ron, and neville up in gryffindor tower.

pansy and harry (and vincent and greg) have been losing their minds for years over draco and blaise's pining. the two of them finally get together when harry tells them to shag and spends the rest of the night in ron and neville's room. the next morning, it takes a glance at draco and blaise and him wiggling his eyebrows to get a detention from snape.

harry and luna firecalling lily from the hearth in ravenclaw tower at least two or three times a week. the two of them talking to her about homework, crushes, and their latest exploits in teasing draco.

their parents showing them how to become animagi, which leads to narcissa and alice wanting to learn how, too. mcgonagall giving her students a fond eyeroll when their words are slurred in class because, really, it is quite obvious when you're hiding a leaf underneath your tongue.

harry being best friends with the patil twins, some of the few people outside of his dad's family that he shares a culture with. him spending hours in the library studying with padma, even longer out on the quidditch pitch flying with parvati.

harry, who's been dating cedric since his fourth year (where he watched the tournament instead of competing), and padma, who isn't interested in romance, being the cause of at least 90% of hogwarts's couples: dean and seamus, draco and blaise, luna and ginny, neville and hannah, hermione and pansy, and - of course - parvati and lavender.

remus being the d.a.d.a. professor from harry's first year through to his seventh, and retiring soon after when harry decides he wants the position himself. neville becoming the herbology professor, pansy and blaise going to potions and charms, but draco deciding to become a healer. ("what the hell are we meant to talk about if we're all bloody teachers?" he asked them once, much to his friends' amusement.)

cedric becomes the transfiguration professor when dumbledore finally agrees to retire and promote mcgonagall, and cho spends three years playing for puddlemere united before becoming the school's newest, coolest flying instructor. hermione surprises no one by rising through the ranks to minister for magic, and pansy quickly finds herself the chief editor of the daily prophet. rita skeeter quickly finds herself without a job. ron becomes an auror, a job he excels at, and during a mission in bulgaria he finds himself running into viktor krum. harry and padma see an opportunity.

every summer without fail, harry finds himself curled up on regulus and james's couch with a book, legs tangled with luna's or draco's or nev's or sometimes cedric's. he spends hours flying above the burrow's fields with the weasleys, spends long summer days taking lessons from krum because even in regulus's increasing age, he's the best seeker harry's ever seen.

harry spends his evenings sitting on the porch of his late grandparents' farmhouse, braiding hermione's hair the way pandora and mary taught him when he was young. the adults are inside. pansy is curled into hermione, flipping through a copy of witch weekly while luna sits on harry's other side and flips through her own copy of the quibbler.

neville is showing hannah and blaise some sort of frog by the creek that lavender is swimming in with seamus, dean, and the patil twins. up high in the sky, ron, draco, and cedric are flying with viktor, ginny, and cho in a two-vs-two match that is most definitely in the latter team's favor.

here, harry thinks, is home.

Danny would be pouting, but this? This is actually kind of hilarious. He’d be laughing his ass off if he could, but allows himself to shriek excitedly around the binky in his mouth. Jordan on the other hand has no such thing stopping him, letting out his own toddler cackle as something bursts into flames. 

Their current caretaker- Clockwork’s nephew apparently, who is on babysitting duty for the next couple of decades- coos, and then they’re off again. Someone had apparently wanted their sort-of-Fraid-member to go to a meeting despite him informing them he’d be unavailable.

So of course he- and the three of them and Ms. Teekl the cat- just had to set the whole place on fire. You honestly can’t be that rude! It’s like, not exactly maternity leave, but something similar- don’t make fun of him he’s stuck with a toddler-brain right now! 

(All three of them would’ve had completely toddler minds if not for the fact that they were partially made from ectoplasm) 

Really, it was perfectly normal for them to set the building aflame and disappear into another dimension, even if maybe not for humans. Everyone knew you didn’t try to mess with a nesting Realms being! Especially if they weren’t fully Fraid yet. Honestly it’s all the idiots’ fault.

feeling slightly vindicated watching an RAS interview bc keep getting this feeling from the drizzt books that theyre very italian-american (as in, i see a lot of things i recognize from italian culture in it, but influenced and changed by american culture) and he said that he based off the culture of menzo partly on his hometown and then the sopranos/godfather which confirmed it to me

also he pronounces menzoberranzan the way i used to before someone else corrected me JKNDSKJFKDS
