Been listening to the Mighty Nein and: “I could see things falling, and some of it looked like cargo… and some of it looked like me.” Is such a haunting line. Just the imagery of watching torn/burnt off pieces of your own body fall into the water as you’re drowning is a chilling detail.

New place, same fight

Danny loves his friends, they have been with him since they were little and they have experienced too many things together, things that have helped them grow, things that only strengthen their friendship. Because Sam and Tucker were everything to him, as he was everything to them.

But at the same time, Danny could admit that he hated his friends; not always, but there were times where they wouldn't stop fighting, where they forced him to choose. The halfa could understand, Sam and Tucker had different world views, they saw different things and occasionally Danny thought they only got along because of him.

That was okay, he learned to live with them, to be the center of their arguments. And when they moved from Amity to Gotham, when they decided to rent an apartment together and go to the same college (which miraculously had all their majors), he thought everything would be fine.

It was idiotic of him. Because at the time he could only see a repeat of what had happened in high school; Sam was having a protest about the cafeteria menu and Tucker had organized the meat lovers (again), and the halfa knew how it was all going to end.

The point is, Danny was tired of repeating the same cycle, a cycle that apparently included Waylon and Poison Ivy fighting in the cafeteria at his new college (and how the hell did his friends manage to get the Rogues of Gotham into their fights?), so when he saw the people in bat suits he exploded.

When Sam and Tucker turned to ask his opinion he shook his head, pointed at Lunch Lady, who had her arms crossed and decided it wasn't his problem before disappear. Literally, no matter if half of Gotham was calling him meta, he was tired.

Red Robin gawked at him before turning his attention to Lunch Lady, who was gathering all the meat around her to form a giant meat monster. And Danny decided it wasn't his problem.

Apparently, Sam and Tucker decided that the bats could take care of it before they looked worried and started looking for Danny. It became obvious that the bats needed help when Danny looked at a giant meat monster two hours later, the halfa arched an eyebrow in dismay, weren't they supposed to be professional heroes? Lunch wasn't even trying...

Octavia's and Blitzø's potential relationship development

I believe that the show, despite Octavia openly hating Blitzø, gives us some hints that they have much more in common than it seems. I’ve noticed a couple of moments where Blitzø and Octavia are… pretty much in sync, if that makes sense.

Here are those moments I’ve noticed… maybe stretched in some places, but! Hear me out!

1. Here, they don’t hear each other, but both are repulsed by Stolas’s obnoxious language and express the same reaction. It’s funny that Stolas is the one calling them out.

2. They also share a distaste for Stolas’s behavior throughout the episode, albeit in slightly different ways. In fact, this serves as a great demonstration of how deaf and blind Stolas is to obvious social cues at the beginning of the series—he doesn’t stop even when directly asked to do so on multiple occasions.

Blitzø is disgusted by Stolas’s awkward, overly sexual advances and demeaning language towards him and his work.

Octavia is taken aback by essentially the same. However, she blames both of them, understandably failing to recognize that Blitzø is just as uncomfortable as she is. From her perspective, Blitzø is a homewrecker who contributed to destroying her parents' marriage.

[Stolas]: You know, it's quite thrilling to see you on the job, Blitzy.[Blitzø]: Save it, bitch, I am working. [Octavia]: You both need to get a room. S1EP2, Loo Loo Land, 8:20

3. They share the hate for the same clown!

[Blitzø and Octavia]: I hate that fucking clown. S1EP2, Loo Loo Land, 8:50

4. They seem to have similar tastes in music! The song My World Is Burning Down Around Me, which Octavia plays to tune out Stella’s screaming, is also heard in Blitzø’s van when he comes to pick up Loona in the Queen Bee episode, although it’s only instrumental. Here, have a look. If, for some reason, the service with the timeframes isn’t working, I’ll also provide the timings in writing so you can check it yourself on YouTube.

Octavia turns on the song, and for a while, we can hear the lyrics before it fades into the background as the scene shifts to Stella yelling at Stolas and later to Stolas’s conversation with Octavia. S1EP2, Loo Loo Land, 2:52 - 3:50

The song’s instrumental version can be heard when Blitzø’s van arrives, and the background noise at Queen Bee’s club is different, so there’s no chance for misinterpretation. It is the music Blitzø’s was listening to. S1EP8, Queen Bee, 8:20 - 9:14

5. Haha, they freak out in the same way in the Seeing Stars episode! I know it’s probably just a stylistic choice to transition from Octavia’s initial experience with LA to Blitzø having to contact Stolas and explain what happened. However, I might be indulging in a bit of wishful thinking, suggesting that this similarity in their stress responses could have some deeper meaning.

So-o... What am I trying to say with all these points I've made?

Like the kind of delulu who yells, "Ghostfuckers, save us!" (we know Viv, we know how trying to put our hopes up ends, haha), I draw a complete unhinged card and I am going to make a very bold claim:

I think that once Stolas and Blitzø finally get their shit and themselves back together, and Octavia realizes there’s much more to the story than, “Oh, it’s just horny dad cheated on my mum with a red lizard dickhead and my dad ruined my family,” Octavia could actually bond with Blitzø quite nicely, and he would make a good second dad to her! Well, don’t get me wrong. She might never want to take it to that level. Also, we don’t know how things will turn out, nor do we know her relationship with her mum, Stella.

But I do believe that their parallels were thrown in for a reason. Despite the circumstances, they can, and maybe will, be on much better terms than they currently are.

Go on, call me delusional and leave me be in my complete denial corner. <3 I admit I do tend to forget the current state of the Stolitz relationship in the series, as in my world, where I’m prioritizing my time working on that fic, they are finally together. I am bitter-sweetly excited that @tealvenetianmask and I are slowly but surely getting close to finishing it. :)

not a big fan of the jayvik having something "higher" than friendship or romantic affection posts. "a secret third thing" lmao like what? love in any form is a transcendent thing in itself. also, it's okay if they're just gay. they can be gay friends. y'all sound like christian linke having to call viktor "asexual" to beat the jayvik allegations. just call them gay, friends to lovers even, lmao. i swear tumblr treating normal things with such disdain for being normal is the most middle school shit ever. ordinary things can be wonderful, actually. it's the irony of existence.

Not to cry conspiracy, but I think one of the things about the lack of cultural connection and depth of exploration on new queer characters like Xanthe is...it makes me feel like they're not built to last. They're not built to be a character in their own right, like Batman or Superman or Nightwing get to be. They're built to be thrown on a cover or in a story every couple of months so DC execs can pat themselves on the back and say "look, we did diversity!"

That's not to say someone couldn't still write that depth into the character. There are plenty of comic characters whose most formative stories were not their first ones (e.g, Babs becoming Oracle)! But the fact that characters like Xanthe didn't debut with that strength of story feels deliberate. Like they are being set up to fail on that front, to justify later pushing this character into the background and forgetting about them.

NODDING!!! I've said something really similar before:

"If I could be playfully conspiracy theory-like for a second; I believe Xanthe Zhou was pitched so that DC Comics can buff out their Pride Anthology or AAPI anthology with a new younger character. The company will give this character one limited series, but that’s it. Xanthe will appear in the larger DC universe whenever big magic plots happen, but that’s it. Maybe they’ll get a YA graphic novel. I would love to be proven wrong, but the problems with Xanthe are baked in the dough."

At this point the way Xanthe is written in the main universe, this character just doesn't work on a foundational level. The only way I can see them work is if they were reinvented in an elseworld project like DC's YA/MG graphic novel line, and that's even if they'd be able to get popular enough to warrant a proper solo graphic novel. If another writer were to give Xanthe a proper shot, big changes have to happen. There are just too many plot holes and nonsensically thought out stuff in Xanthe's origin for them to work as is.

A character like Kong Kenan is a far stronger character and has a cultural specificity to him that Xanthe's sorely lacking. But well, Gene Yang wrote and created Kong so that's to be expected :p I highly recommend a comparison of the two. Kong has a strong cast system, solid mythology, and a clear character arc. Meanwhile Xanthe's over here picking the name "blonde" as their chosen name,,,

Thinking about Buggy and Shanks never breaking up and Shanks putting the straw hat on Buggy after they talk things out, saying that they both deserve it and it doesn't matter if people around them never believe in Buggy because he does!! And they form a crew together and they keep exchanging the hat all the damn time. Shanks keeps it when sleeping on deck. Buggy wears it when it matches his outfits. Shanks likes to put it on to cover his blush every time he looks at Buggy for too long. Shanks puts it on Buggy to catch him off guard and kiss him suddenly.

Buck/Tommy for build a fic, please: “they’re never going to hurt you again.”, hurt, a medical bay that stinks of antiseptic and fear

Everything's a little dull and fuzzy when Buck comes to. Gradually, he becomes aware of his surroundings: a soft surface beneath his body, a nurturing warmth to the atmosphere that's settled deep into his bones - a warmth he hasn't felt in far too long.

But it's the lack of certain things that piques his curiosity the most: there's no constant beeping of machines, no antiseptic curling his nosehairs, no pervasive stench of fear souring the air.

Blinking his eyes open is a little tough. They feel heavy, and his body is sore and tired but for once it feels like he's gotten the much-needed rest it's always begging for.

He's not alone. There's a figure standing by a large window overlooking a view of greengreengreen. A man. His size and the breadth and curve of his shoulders is familiar. The rich brown and gentle waves of his hair, the strength in his muscles. A prominent nose. Storm-blue eyes. Stubble on his cheeks and a dimpled chin.

Buck can't see his face, but he knows.

He knows this man.

He was there - in the facility, before.. before..

"You."

The man turns and is by his bedside in a moment.

"Evan."

Evan. No one but his sister has ever said his name with such gentleness. But.. but this man did - back there, in that place.. and Buck didn't feel resentful or probed by it, he didn't feel like a disappointment at the sound of his name in this man's mouth.

"How are you feeling?"

It's a variation of a question he's been asked a thousand times over the years, but never with quite so much genuine concern. Not from his doctors or the lab techs, not even from his own parents.

"I'm.." He feels.. good. Not great, but like his body has been given the opportunity to rest and start to heal. He needs more time, but whatever reprieve he's had is working. He feels.. strong. Stronger than he ever did within the cold unforgiving walls of the facility. "Where am I?"

"A safe location."

Safe from what? He wonders groggily, but the answer is right there within reach: his parents. The company. "Who are you?"

"I'm Tommy."

"Tommy," Buck sounds out his name. It feels right on his tongue. "We've met. Before."

"We have."

Flashes of memories come back to him: shouting, klaxons, an explosion— "Y-you got me outta there."

Tommy gives a small nod. "I did. We did," he gestures at the empty doorway. Buck eyes it then refocuses on Tommy.

"Why?"

"Because you deserve better."

Buck doesn't know Tommy but he knows strangers don't just walk into a high security research facility and walk out with a test subject. And even if they did, they'd need to have a damn good reason. "You don't even know me."

Tommy's gaze is soft as it tracks over his face, assessing. "I know someone who does."

Buck's heart lurches in his chest. "M-maddie?" It doesn't seem possible.

"She's not here," Tommy says quickly, "but she helped us find you."

Buck's breath picks up. He hasn't seen Maddie in years - years! He thought she'd left him for good, forgotten about him and their parents' insane scientific agenda and moved on to a better life.

"Hey— hey, it's okay." Tommy's hand lands softly on Buck's calf. It's big and grounding and he swears he can feel the ache of his scar tissue just above it ebb away at the contact. "It's okay, just take it easy. You still need rest if you want to heal."

Buck does want to heal. He wants to heal from everything that place put him through, but there's only so much that sleep can do. It can't reverse what they did to him, the ways his body has changed and what he's capable of.

"They're never going to hurt you again," Tommy tells him. Like a promise. Like a vow.

Buck closes his eyes and lets Tommy's words sink in, lets his voice wash through him. He works to slow his breathing and re-centre.

Maddie helped save him and now he can go find her and they can be together. He can do that, now. Tommy helped make that possible.

The air pressure in the room shifts as he breathes deep and calm and exhales, finding his resolve. His eyes fix on Tommy's when they open. "Thankyou."

Tommy nods a little jerkily, eyes wide as he takes in Buck's appearance. "You're, uh. Glowing. Are you okay?"

Buck smiles. A real, honest to God smile. It's been so long. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay, now."

Buck is finally free.

this has been a ~12-cumulative-hour-long project. i had a ton of fun but ohhh my word. i'm glad to be done. it's not perfect but i think it's good and that's good enough for me :3
