110. The Light After the Storm.
Tumblr media
After a tough but productive conversation with Conrad, Lana returned to her room.
It no longer felt like a suffocating box, no longer pressing in on her, trying to crush her. It actually felt like before—peaceful.
She sat on the bed, listening to her body and mind.
Her heart was no longer pounding like crazy, her tremors were almost unnoticeable, and her mind was clearing—like a dark, cloudy sky after a storm, slowly being torn apart by warm, bright sunlight, revealing a rainbow.
With that peace came the deep realization of just how exhausted she was.
Her body, which had been running on backup power for days, was finally giving in.
Her limbs felt heavy, her head clouded with a soft, pleasant fog, and her eyelids grew heavier by every second.
Without even properly lying down, she simply let herself fall back onto the bed. In a moment, she drifted into sleep.
As she fell deeper into her sleep, she found herself back in the dream.
But this time, the room was different. The walls were a warm, pleasant shade of nude, and a light breeze swept through the space. Beautiful lily flowers floated on top of the water that still covered the floor, but unlike before, it wasn’t ice-cold. Instead, it was warm and soothing, sending a wave of relaxation through her body, reaching all the way to her heart. Instead of being trapped in an iron vice, her heart was gently held by a bright, unknown light, sending little ticklish waves of warmth through her. She looked around. The room still had no boundaries, stretching endlessly, but when she opened her mouth to speak—this time, she could actually hear her own voice. It was no longer suppressed. A memory surfaced of a child's voice calling for her. Lana’s breath hitched. “Hey, baby,” she called out softly, her voice filled with emotion. “It’s me, your momma. Where are you?” She listened. A giggle echoed through the air. It was faint at first, but it grew louder and closer—closer and closer, like the child was running toward her. Lana held her breath, her heart pounding in anticipation, waiting to finally see the child.
And then—
Something pulled her away.
Lana gasped as she woke up.
“I’m sorry, Lana. I didn’t mean to scare you,” Clary mumbled, carefully hugging her as she settled in beside her. “Is it really comfortable to sleep with your legs hanging off the bed?” she teased.
Lana groaned, trying to move her legs, but they were heavy from poor circulation.
“Uhhm, actually, no. Do not recommend,” she muttered, hugging Clary back.
“Lana?” Clary called, her voice muffled against Lana’s shoulder.
“Hm?” Lana responded, still half-asleep.
“I like your new boyfriend. He’s handsome,” she said, giggling.
Lana opened her eyes with amusement creeping into her voice.
“Oh, you do?” Then, realization hit. “Wait… where—” She pulled back slightly, just enough to see Clary’s face. “You sneaky little brat. You were snooping instead of sleeping, weren’t you?”
“I won’t tell Mom and Dad, don’t worry, Lana,” Clary said playfully.
Lana laughed. “Haha—actually, we will have to tell them. Conrad’s coming to meet them soon.”
Clary’s eyes widened.
“Does this mean I’ll become an aunt?” she asked curiously.
Lana smiled, pressing a soft kiss to Clary’s forehead. “Yes, it does.”
“Well, despite me liking him, tell him that if he ever hurts you—he’ll have to answer to me,” Clary said in a threatening voice.
Lana giggled. “When did you become so grown up?”
Pause.
“You hungry?” Lana asked, glancing at Clary again. “Because I am starving.” She smiled, happy to feel actual hunger for the first time instead of the constant, pressing nausea.
“A little,” Clary mumbled.
“Then let’s make breakfast today, hm?” Lana said, encouraging Clary to get up with her.

Downstairs, Lana grabbed all the necessary ingredients for breakfast while Clary stood beside her, chatting about new makeup tricks she had learned with Alycia from video tutorials.
Despite Lana feeling better overall, her mind occasionally drifted—looping through moments from the past few days, then wandering to the future.
Where would they live? How would she manage everything? What about her studies?
As she got lost in thought, Clary’s voice became faint, like she was speaking from underwater.
Then—

“Lana! It’s burning!” Clary gasped.
Lana snapped out of it and looked at the pan—small flames had shot up from the oil. Quickly, she grabbed a spatula and put them out.
“Are you sure you know how to cook?” Clary looked at her in disbelief.
“Yeah, yeah, of course I do. Who do you think was feeding you while Mom and Dad were away? Ghosts?” Lana teased, turning the heat down and covering the pan with a lid. “It’s just the oil. Everything’s under control.” “Okay, my young Padawan, go wake everyone up while I set the table.”
Lana patted Clary on the head with a smirk.
----------------------------------˚ʚ♡ɞ˚------------------------------------
A little while later, the whole family was sitting together at the breakfast table.
Joseph wanted to ask about Lana’s decision to go to the hospital early, but he held back. If she wanted to talk about it, she would.
Everyone noticed the shift in her mood.
The gloom that had weighed her down was finally lifting, and the lightheartedness she was known for was beginning to shine through again.
“How do you feel today, honey?” Nova asked gently. “You seem in a better mood.”
Before Lana could respond, Clary shot out, “Of course she is! Her boyfriend came, and I’m gonna be an aunt now!” She giggled.
The room froze.

Valerio, who had also heard that Lana had a visitor, sighed and shook his head, dragging a hand down his face.

“Clary, you need to learn to be quiet for at least a little while.”
“Don’t tell me what to do,” Clary grumbled back.
“Stop it, you two,” Joe intervened, giving them both a serious look.
Then, he turned to Lana. “Sweetie, I meant to ask you about what we talked about yesterday…”
Tumblr media
Lana exhaled.
“It’s alright, Dad. Clary’s right—Conrad was here early this morning. We talked and… I decided—we decided—we’re willing to try. We’re keeping the baby.”
She looked at all of them, waiting for their reactions.
Joseph let out a deep breath of relief.
Nova was the first to speak.
“Honey, that’s incredible news. No matter what, we are always here for you. We will always support you.”
“Thank you, Mom. Thank all of you for the incredible support you’ve given me.”
Lana looked around at them with eyes full of love and appreciation.
“I know I can be unbearable sometimes, but despite that, you all love me. And I can’t even begin to describe what that love and support means to me.”
She hesitated, then added, “And… I invited Conrad to meet all of you. I hope that’s okay.”
“Of course, honey,” Nova said warmly. “We need to meet him, and we’d be glad to.”
“Thank you, Mom.”
Nova squeezed her hand, her touch saying, You’re welcome.
Dinner with Conrad was set in two days.
Tumblr media
Lana gave him a quick call to let him know the details, then made her way back upstairs—hoping to get a little more rest.
