Dick in the Murder Machine
(Part of the Batfam Death Project)
Forever Evil 6â7, 2014
In Forever Evil, the main universe was invaded by the Crime Syndicate: Earth-3 villains who are counterparts of Earth-0 heroes. They captured Nightwing and exposed his identity as Dick Grayson on live TV, then kept him captive at the behest of Owlman (Earth-3 Thomas Wayne Jr, in his universe the elder brother of a dead Bruce Wayne), who seemed to be feeling parental/avuncular urges, although The Outsider (Earth-3 Alfred) kept reminding him that Dick was not his own Richard.
Grid, Cyborgâs Earth-3 counterpart, put Dick in an inescapable âmurder machineâ with a bomb connected to his heart, such that it would only be disabled if Dickâs heart stopped. Grid apparently built the machine from Apokoliptian blueprints he found in S.T.A.R. Labs.
Youâd think that this whole arrangement was a trolley problem aimed specifically at Batman, but in fact it seems to have been an actual accident. It looks like Grid intended only to hold Dick securely: Grid didnât much care if Dick died, but he was following Owlmanâs instructions to keep him alive along with Ultramanâs (evil Supermanâs) instructions to keep him secure. But when Batman and allies (including Catwoman, Bizarro, and Lex Luthor) invaded in search of Dick, a failsafe was triggered on the device and the bomb started counting down on a five-minute timer.
The only way to disarm the bomb was to kill Dick.
And youâd expect Bruce to come up with the temporary death plan. But Dickâs death is apparently something Bruce canât handle, and he just kept trying to unplug him. No planning, no solution, just desperation. Being Apokoliptian technology it was semi-sentient and kept working around his attempts.
So Lex Luthor attacked Bruce, with Bizarro holding Bruce off for long enough for Lex to force Dick to swallow a pill to stop his heart. Which, pills and the digestive system being what they are, shouldnât have worked or at least not worked that quickly, but comics I guess.
(I think Dick could have held the pill under his tongue instead of swallowing it if heâd wanted to, so itâs possible that Dick deliberately swallowed the pill. But his eyes here show pure panic, not acceptance of death.)
Bruce of course attacks Lex and starts beating him up, threatening to kill him, till Lex says he can bring Dick back, whereupon Bruce allows Lex to proceed:
And it works, and Dick is brought back to life, and the bomb doesnât go off. Good thing Lex Luthor routinely carries around both cardioplegia pills and adrenaline shots!

Batfam During Quarantine: Avatar
Dick: Okay, lets try to keep the craziness to a minimum. Harper and Cullen are quarantining for two weeks so lets not do anything to make them jealous.
Duke: *Duke and Tim walk into the room* Omg, We just finished watching Avatar The Last Airbender for like the fifth time right now! I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!!! WHY DID THEY EVER TAKE IT OFF OF NETFLIX!!!
Dick: Guys, come on. I literally just said to keep the craziness to a minimum.
Tim: They have Netflix set up on their tv. They should be fine.
Damian: What is Avatar The Last Airbender
Everyone: *gasp*
Selina: Some....
Jason: Sh ta ta ta ta. *presses his finger to Selinaâs lips* Donât speak, I know just what youâre sayinâ, so please stop explaininâ.
Selina: Really Jason? How long have you been waiting to use that one?
Jason: *breaks into a dance* All night long, all night.
Stephanie: What is going on with you Jason?Â
Tim: I know right? You donât ever listen to Lionel Richie, let alone pop music.
Jason: Itâs his fault! *points at Dick* Him and his stupid playlist!
Dick:Â âDonât Speakâ isnât on my playlist though.
Jason:Â I ummmm...... radio.
Dick: *gasp* You listen to No Doubt!
Jason:Â No! Maybe!
Dick: O-M-G!
Jason: Theyâre a guilty pleasure! Now donât mention it again.
Cassandra:Â Guys!!! What is The Last Airbender?
Duke: *starts to explain but Dick holds him back*
Jason: *to Damian and Cassandra* You poor depraved children.

It is a fantastic series that can not be summarized by anyone or even a movie. Anyone who tries instantly robs the person of the magic of the original series and ruins the exper.....
Damian: You know what, screw it. This isnât worth it.
Dick: NOOOO! Come on Dami, we can watch it all together, just the nine of us.
Duke: Yeah, come on Damian.
Stephanie: Itâs a really great series Dami.
Cassandra: I mean Iâm interested.
Tim: *turns his head towards Cassandra* We already knew you were on board. *turns his head back to Damian*
Damian: Fine, Iâll give your stupid show a chance.
Everyone: Yaaayyyyy!!!! *they all start to head down stairs when Dick gets an alert on his phone*
Dick: Actually, this is going to need to wait. Cass and Tim, come with me. Iâll alert Babs and Kate.
Jason: Why, whatâs up?
Dick: Thereâs been a murder at Blackgate.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, Orphan, and Commissioner Gordon
Jim: Batman and, wow there are a lot of you!
Batman: We want to try and get this over with as soon as possible. Â
Jim: Very well. Victim is Julian Gregory Day, better known as Calendar Man. The body was found at 10:15. He left his cell at 10 to meet with the D.A. to talk about getting a reduced sentence. Both of the prison guards who were escorting Julian Day were knocked out during the attack. All of the cameraâs were out, too.
Batwoman: The marks on his neck suggest that he was strangled and canât quite tell but thereâs something under his fingernails. He couldnât have saw this coming but he definitely tried to put up a fight.
Batman:Â Okay, Batgirl and Orphan, lets have you head to the morgue with the diener and see if they could find out whatâs under his finger nails. Batwoman, question Hugo Strange. Go through the audio files and see what you can find. Red Robin, you and I will see what any of the inmates in the cell block know. Jim, order your men to check the other camera monitors for anything suspicious.
Jim: Iâm not one of your......
Batman: *glares at Jim Gordon*
Jim: I could figure out your identity any time I want.Â
Batman:Â *smirks* Is that a promise?
Jim: Itâs a door Iâm willing to keep closed unless you cross the line.
Batwoman
Something she didnât mention at the crime scene was that there was traces of reddish brown hair, so that points fingers at James Gordon Jr, Clock King, Edward Nigma, and Roxanne Sutton. Kate has her suspicions, but as of right now everyone is a suspect.
Hugo Strange: Hello Batwoman. How may I assist you?
Batwoman: IÂ need to know about a few of your patients.
Hugo Strange: You know I can not tell you much I am.....
Batwoman: I am familiar with the confidentiality agreement. I need to know about Julian Day.
Hugo Strange: Poor guy. Itâs a shame what happened to him. His most recent audio files are all yours. Youâll find the information you need in there.
Batwoman walked out of the room and began listening to the files in the secret Batcave in Blackgate.
Batgirl and Orphan
Batgirl: *walks into the door* Ugh, what is that smell?
Orphan: Rotting goat sex.
Batgirl: *burst out laughing* What?
Orphan: Rotting goat sex.Â
Batgirl: What made you say that?
Orphan: Red Hood told me thatâs the name of the yellow squares you put on sandwiches. The ones that go bad over time and smell like this room.
Batgirl: Okay, donât listen to Red Hood anymore. Itâs called cheese Orphan.
Orphan: Cheese. Okay. Got it.
Batgirl: So, how are you enjoying quarantine in the mansion.
Orphan: Itâs not bad. Been sparring a lot.Â
Batgirl: Who exactly? Youâre not hurting my boyfriend right?
Orphan: Nope, but I kicked Helenaâs butt a few times.
Batgirl: WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY!!!
Coroner: *walks out* Hey, so the.... Sorry, am I interrupting something.
Batgirl: No. Tell us about the body.
Coroner: Okay so prior to his death it seems the victim was drugged with a depressant. Obviously slowing his reactions. Underneath his fingernails are threads from the string that was used strangle him and some dead skin cells.
Batgirl: Thereâs not a lot of options for strings except for shoelaces, and unless someone has a very old shoelace, that means the string had to have come from outside the prison.
Coroner:Â Correct, the threads are definitely not made from the same material as the shoelaces.
Orphan: Anything else.
Coroner:Â Yes, there was some short white hairs found on his body which is odd, but probably from facial hair or eyebrows.
Batgirl:Â Thanks! Let us know when you have an idea who those skin cells belong to. *both Barbara and Cassandra start walking away* Tell Red Robin what we found out.
Orphan: But weâre supposed to report to Batman.
Batgirl: Fuck Batman.
Selina, Bruce, Lucius, and Alfred
At Wayne Tower
Bruce: *starring at his computer screen* If I buy this company, then I can buy a donut, and the cosmic donut will make me live forever, plus more profits, because three coffees plus one donut equals one Tim. *Lucius Fox knocks on the door* Do you want to build a snowman?!
Lucius: Mister Wayne, we need to talk.
Bruce: What is it Lucius?
Alfred: Youâre overworking yourself.
Bruce: *looks up from his computer* Dad, I mean Alfred, Selina, what are you doing here?
Selina: No simple way to say it but this is an intervention.
Bruce: I donât need an intervention.
Selina: Bruce, itâs been a bit over two months since quarantine began. Youâre company is doing just fine. Donât you think you deserve a break?
Bruce: With a little less help from Red Tim, I need to work as much as possible to get the cosmic coffee back on track. The hacker a few weeks back did a bit of damage.
Alfred:Â Master Bruce, even the Batman needs a break from time to time. Isnât that the real reason you have Master Dick running around in the Batsuit instead of you?
Bruce: No! *Bruce takes a moment to think it all over* Partially.
Lucius: You are putting to much pressure on yourself. You keep on talking nonsense and are obviously sleep deprived.
Bruce: No! Iâve havenât put enough pressure on myself since I became Batman. Once Batman came into the picture I didnât focus on the company any longer. And Iâm not sleep deprived, Iâve slept 4 hours last night! Iâm getting more than enough sleep.
Lucius: You had more of an impact on the company then you think. If it werenât for you acting as a real CEO, we wouldnât be doing a going green initiative, there wouldnât be a yearly fund going out to local orphanages, you created a functioning way for employees to work from home while increasing productivity. I can go on for hours about the positive things you have done as Bruce Wayne.
Selina: You have done so much. Come home, sleep. Enjoy time with youâre family.
Bruce:Â I canât do that, I can do more. I can help other companies, too.
Alfred: I remember one time, it was when you turned 5, your father was supposed to be at the hospital. However, the day before he had worked all day to make his patients feel better, so he could spend the next day with you. He wouldnât have missed your birthday even if it would cause the end of the world. Master Thomas knew the importance of taking time off to spend time with his family. It is time that you do the same.
Bruce begins to tear up. He reflects on how often his father worked day and night, but regardless how often he worked, he always had time for him and his mother. He knew his father loved him with all his heart. Then he thought of Alfred. He wasnât really his father but Bruce always saw him as one after his parents died. Alfred loves him as much as he loves his own family.Â
Bruce: *rolls his chair back and walks over to hug Alfred* Thank you Alfred.
Alfred: Anytime sir.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
*In the Blackgate Batcave*
Batman: What did we find?
Orphan: The threads under Julianâs finger nails came from a string outside of the prison meaning that it could be one of the employees whoâve killed him. Skin cells under his nails are being scanned now, and white hairs were found on his body. Also cheese is not called goat sex.
Red Robin: WHAT! *Dick and Tim start laughing hysterically*Â
Batman: Why would you think that!
Batgirl: Jason told her. Thatâs beside the point though.
Red Robin: *whispers to Dick* What did you do?
Batman: *whispers to Tim* I donât know.
Batgirl: Stop whispering, we can all see you!
Batman: Got it. Kate what did you find?
Batwoman: Day was in an extreme state of paranoia before he died. Talks about how he was going to tell the D.A. about corruption in Blackgate.
Batman: Interesting, did he say anyoneâs name?
Batwoman: Itâs not clear, but I would assume so.
Batman: That makes sense. When Red Robin and I interviewed his cellmate, Drury Walker, he said he was starting to suspect something was going to happen. He had suspicions that James Jr. was going to kill him.
Batwoman: If I had to assume, I would say the same. I noticed a large sum of reddish brown hair at the scene where the body was found.
Batgirl: There was white hair found on the body though. With Day being strangled the killer would be close enough to possibly have a few hairs fall onto his body.
Batman: Do you have a sample?
Batgirl: Obviously.
Batman: Okay, Iâll program the computer to scan it. I know itâs not ideal but weâll find out in twelve hours. Tim, Cass, and Kate, go update Commissioner Gordon. Babs, do you mind if we talk for a moment.
Batgirl: Sure, if you feel like doing so now.
Batman: *takes off the cowl and mask* Whatâs wrong?Â
Batgirl: How could you not tell me Helena was staying at the mansion!
Batman: I didnât want you to overreact.
Batgirl: How could I not! One of your ex girlfriends is sleeping under the same roof you are!
Batman: Look, this conversation is a bit more complicated than I anticipated so weâll talk more about it later.
Batgirl: You know what, do yourself one better and just donât talk to me at all. *Barbara places her mask back on as she storms out*
Red Robin: *sneaks out from behind a door* I swear I totally wasnât eavesdropping, but that sounded like it could have gone better.
Batman: Yeah, it could have. *Dick than walks out pulling the cowl over his head and placing his mask back on*
Batman and Batwoman
Batman: *knocks on the door*
Hugo Strange: Hello Batman, Batwoman! How may I assist you?
Batman: We have some more questions to ask you.
Hugo Strange: Please, come inside!
Batman: How has James Jr. been doing in his sessions?
Hugo Strange: He has been doing very well! Obviously he had to spend a small period in solitary for killing his cellmates but he is getting better. If he is a prime suspect you may look into his files.
Batwoman: When did you two last meet?
Hugo Strange: Yesterday.
Batman: When did you two conspire the death of Julian Day?
Hugo Strange: Iâm sorry, what are you talking about?
Batwoman: *grabs Hugo Strange by the shirt and lifts him* DONâT PLAY GAMES WITH US STRANGE! ANSWER THE QUESTION!
Hugo Strange: I swear I donât know what youâre talking about!
Batman: We saw that you transferred Day to Gordonâs cell! He has killed every cellmate heâs had! You were sentencing him to death!
Batwoman starts to shake Hugo Strange violently until a gun shot is heard from across the room.Â
Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
James Jr.: Hey Batgirl! I see youâre walking again, isnât that such a neat surprise.
Red Robin: Shut up, James!
Batgirl: James, we want to know what happened?
James Jr.: ..........
Batgirl: Answer my question asshat!
James Jr.: Whoa little sis... I want to stay I was told to shut up!
Batgirl: Do you realize whatâs happening?
James Jr.: Iâm being interrogated.
Batgirl: Youâre going to be transferred to Arkham. If you confess your time there could be reduced!Â
James Jr.: Fine... I confess...... I cut open your teddy bear and filled it with razor blades when we were kids.
Batgirl flips the table and pins James to the wall, punching him in the head multiple times. Orphan then runs in, trying to help Red Robin to get Batgirl to stop punching James Jr.
Batgirl: Rot in fucking Arkham for all I care! You should have been sent there to begin with!
Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan begin to walk out the door before James Jr. lying on the floor yells.
James Jr.: WAIT! It wasnât me, I promise!
Batgirl: Doubtful.
James Jr.: Red Robin, come on. I know youâre going to give me a chance. Hear me out.
Red Robin: Batgirl, letâs give him.....
Batgirl: NO! HE HAD HIS CHANCE! HE DECIDED TO WASTE IT!
Orphan: Batgirl. Please.
Batgirl: *stops in the hallway* Fine.
A few minutes later Red Robin is in the interrogation room with James Jr. with Orphan.
Red Robin: James Jr. Did you kill Julian Day?
James Jr.: No.
Off in the distance they all hear the gunshot from Hugo Strangeâs office.
James Jr.: And thereâs my proof.
Batman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, and Orphan
Red lines flow down Hugo Strangeâs face as blood pours from the hole in his forehead. Batman and Batwoman turn around to see who fired the shot, and are shocked to see Eduardo Flamingo. Batwoman drops the dead body of Hugo Strange as Flamingo fires three shots at both Batman and Batwoman. Both are unfazed by this and punch him in the face, causing him to fall back on the floor.
Batman: *picks up Flamingo* Who hired you?
Eduardo Flamingo: *cough* You just watched him die.
The GCPD arrives to the room and arrest Flamingo.
Commissioner Gordon: Freeze! You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.
He had confessed to everything. The murders, the contract Hugo Strange offered him to kill Day. No details was left out. By the time they all left the prison it was 12:30 in the morning.
Batman: Batgirl, letâs talk.Â
Batgirl: I donât want to talk.
Batman: Babs, if you wonât talk, then listen, please? *tears start to fill his eyes and make their way down his mask*
Batgirl: If anything, you listen to me *tears streak down her mask as well* I donât know where I stand in this situation, and right now I really donât care! For the time being donât talk to me. *she takes out her grappling hook and leaves the four other members just standing there*
Batwoman: Iâm not going to get too involved in this, but you know if you need to talk Dick, let me know.
Batman: Thank you.
The two hug and then go their separate ways.
Dick and Barbara
When they got home, Dick reached for his phone and started to text Barbara. He tried to explain how he never knew Helena was going to show up. How she showed up out of nowhere. How she is his everything, his world, and he doesnât blame her for being skeptical but he still loves her.Â
Barbara doesnât want to read a word of Dickâs excuses. This has happened before when Dick was dating Koriandâr and Zatanna. Even before they were in a relationship, she knew he at one point was seeing multiple girls at a time. She doesnât know if he is really sleeping with Helena behind her back, but she knows that she canât trust Dick for the time being.
After his shower he walked to his room where he saw Helena laying on his bed in her costume. She then tosses his Nightwing costume at him.
Helena: Hey Dick, how about you throw that on and we do a bit of role play.
Dick: Cool, Iâm into that. Iâll be Nightwing, the guy who loves Batgirl so much, and youâll be Huntress, who sleeps on the first floor. Youâre going to leave my room and Iâll lock my door for the rest of the night.
Helena: Rough night, lover?
Dick: I told you to stop calling me that.
Helena: I know, but I love it.
Dick: Helena, please just leave.
Dick just lied on his bed staring at his phone, wishing that Barbara would text him back. Fifteen minutes later he hears a knock at his door.
Bruce: Hey Dick! Are you okay?
Dick: What is this? Am I dreaming?
Bruce: No. I heard what happened. Just know if you ever want to talk about it, you can come to me.Â
Dick: Thanks Bruce!
Bruce: Want to watch Avatar as a family? Damian told me how you talked him into watching it. I think itâs a fun idea!
Dick: *smirks* Sure!
They both walk downstairs to the media room as they see everyone down there already. He noticed Helena was sitting at the far end of the room so Dick considered sitting by Tim and Stephanie who seemed to have been chatting it up, but decided against it and sat near Damian.Â
Dick: *leans over towards Damian*
Damian: Donât you even think about it Grayson!
Dick: *wraps his arms around Damian* Come on, you know you love my hugs!
Damian: I will cut off your arms in your sleep,
Dick: Youâre so adorable when you think youâre threatening.
The episode begins to play and everyone fell silent. As the second one ended everyone looked at Cassandra and Damian to get their reaction.
Cassandra: That was awesome!!! Letâs watch one more!
Damian: It is surprisingly entertaining. A little silly but intriguing.
Jason: WE KNEW YOU WOULD LIKE IT SUCKER!
Tim: One of the greatest shows ever!

Helena Kyle-Wayne History
The history of Helena Kyle-Wayne based on how I see her! Ties into this Events Timeline :) I might call this Batfam au Earth Never? Maybe? Iâm kinda already attached to the name lol
Helena Martha Maria Wayne was born to Bruce Wayne, age 42, and Selina Kyle, age 45, on Earth Never-Two. Her grandfather Alfred Pennyworth was 67, her half-brother Damian Wayne was 13, her adopted brother Tim Drake was 21, her adopted brother and sister Jason Todd and Cassandra Cain were 24, and her adopted brother Dick Grayson was 29. Growing up she learned acrobatics from her eldest brother, how to hold a gun from Jason, how to be silent by her sister, hacking from Tim, animal taming and katana wielding from her favorite brother Damian, how to defend herself from her father, and how to be sneaky from her mother. Needless to say, from a young age, she was pretty skilled, and being raised in a house of detectives, them attempting to keep their secret lives as vigilantes from her didnât work, as she knew about it from the age of 6 and onwards. By age 14, she became the new Robin under her father.
She was best friends with Kara Kent, aka Supergirl, who was a few years older than her, and Charles Bullock, aka Blackwing, who was also a few years older than her, and was an intern at the law firm created by her father, her eldest brother and a man named Arthur Cranston, aptly named the Cranston, Grayson and Wayne consumer research firm. The three made an excellent team, and were practically inseparable.
Aside from Kara and Charles, though, Helena greatly looked up to the woman who shared her name, Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress. This earned Helena the affectionate name of Little H, or Little Huntress, from Bertinelli and others. Helena as Robin often ended up shadowing Huntress more than Batman. She also got along really well with Charlotte âCharlieâ Gage-Radcliffe, a young adult who was like a daughter to Bertinelli. It should be noted that the Birds of Prey never existed in this universe, and Barbara Gordon never became a superhero. In this universe, Charlie mimicked the identity of Huntress rather than Batgirl, before creating her own as Misfit. No Batgirls exist in this universe, but Stephanie Brown still became Spoiler- never Robin, Cassandra Cain simply became Black Bat and then Orphan, and Bette Kane never became a superhero, nor did Carrie Kelley, Tiffany Fox or Nell Little.
At one point, a man named Silky Cernak tried to blackmail and frame her mother for killing a cop as Catwoman, but with her and her familyâs help, they cleared her name and revealed the truth, arresting Silky.
Eventually, when Helena was 16, a war against Apokoliptians, lead by Darkseid, started, which resulted in a war torn world. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman were all killed during the war, as well as Tim Drake and Helena Bertinelli. Her family grieves them, and Dick takes up the mantle of Batman, and Damian makes his new superhero alias Redwing, a combination of Red Robin and Nightwing in honor of his brothers. Charlie became the new Huntress. By age 18, everything had way gotten worse, and Charlie was killed, and Selina soon followed. Helena then became Huntress, while Kara became Power Girl.
At age 20, she, Kara and Charles chased after someone who they assumed was Darkseid, but they would later find out was DeSaad. The trio attacked DeSaad, but in the process Helena entered a Boom Tube while Power Girl and Blackwing fought DeSaad. Helena would never know how the battle ended, though, as the Boom Tube sent her to Earth Never-Prime. She was stranded, and alone, in a world so similar to her own, but not war torn, and just slightly off. She was a Bat though, and she was well-trained. She laid low and studied the world, learning that Batman was still Bruce Wayne here- and that Bruce Wayne was still 42. And that she had never been (or simply yet to be) born, as Bruce and Selina were not even married like they were in her world, with Selina still acting as the criminal Catwoman. In this world, Darkseid had been defeated already.
She stole money from Wayne Enterprises to get by, just for meals, hotels, clean clothes, etc. Scrounging through Wikipedias can only get you so far, so she took to spying on her family and friends and other superheroes and... finds that she canât handle it. For the most part, they look so happy. Yeah, Jasonâs an asshole, and Damianâs so young and angst-y, but... Theyâre a family, not split by death and war. Every night, she seems to end up in tears, jealous of this world and wanting her world back- no, her family.
Her secrecy does not last long, as she canât stop herself from jumping in to help her family (Batman, Robin, Nightwing) when they are attacked by the Joker. She attempts to run away after the battle, but her moves and tricks are the exact same as the Batfamilyâs, so it ends up impossible for her to lose them. They interrogate her, and she ends up confessing sheâs not from this universe. She tells them sheâs a Huntress of another world, but not much else. Theyâre skeptical of her, seeing as the moves she used would indicate she was close enough to train under and with the Batfamily, so why would she be âaâ Huntress (of which theyâve only ever had one)? She asks if they could go to the Batcave or somewhere to talk, instead of staying out in the city. They agree, and ask her to lead them to the Batcave, which she does with ease.
There, she confesses more of her story, revealing she was the daughter of Selina and Bruce, and that Darkseid was currently waging war on her world- and winning. She allows them to run a DNA test on her, and the results match up. They believe her story. They offer to help her get back to her own world and also to house her while sheâs here. She thanks them, and offers to help them patrol and protect Gotham in return.
Living in Wayne Manor was... weird, and more often than not sheâd end up crashing at a hotel or something instead. Damian was 13, younger than her, and still very... well, Damian. And there was a kid that had never been apart of her family too, Duke Thomas, and also allies like Harper Row, Julia Pennyworth, Barbara Gordon, etc... And it was weird living among, to her, ghosts. Zombies. Dead people. She was afraid to get attached to any of them, because they werenât hers, and sheâd go back home, where some were dead or dying, and sheâd mourn them all over again. Not to mention, Tim was now only 1 year older than her, Jason and Cass 4, and Dick just 9 instead of 29.... And Dick was even married to an alien princess named Koriandâr aka Starfire- where he was Barbaraâs boyfriend in Helenaâs world- and they had a daughter named Marâi. And Jason had adopted a girl named Sasha, aka Scarlet. And, also, perhaps this stung most, that her best friend was no longer the same age as Helena. Which meant that even if Helena had been born in this world, she wouldnât have been Karaâs friend. And similar with Charles, who was a simple citizen in this world.
While talking to this worldâs version of her mother, Selina reveals to her that a Helena had been born in this world, but her father was Sam Bradley Jr. (deceased), and she was born nine-ten years ago. Her name was Helena Kyle, but since Selina was under the alias Irena Dubrovna at the time, her legal name was Helena Dubrovna. She had brown hair and green eyes rather than the black hair and blue eyes Helena Wayne had. Helena is surprised to know of this universe âherâ, although really itâs her other universe half-sister. She wants to meet her, but Selina explains to her that after the villains Film Freak and Angle Man kidnapped and harmed Helena Kyle, she, Zatanna, and Bruce faked Helenaâs death (and Irena Dubrovnaâs) and put her up for adoption. To make sure no one could ever find Helena via Selina, Selina choose not to know who adopted her (if she officially got adopted at all and was not still in an orphanage). Helena Wayne accepts this and understands her reasoning. Even she had been kidnapped plenty of times back in her home world, Earth Never-Two.
Itâs a year of living like this. She talks with the Selina Kyle of this world, with Helena Bertinelli, with Zatanna Zatara, with everybody. She still closes herself off though, calling Bruce âUncle Bruceâ to distance him and her father in her mind. By the end of the year, a part of her realizes sheâs never going back... and another part wonders why she would even want to. She could have happiness here. But, at the same time, to give up her friendships with Power Girl and Blackwing? (And what if they were dead by now?) Itâs difficult, but finally, with the advice from her other universe family, she decides she wants to try making a life here, just in case she really never can go back. Of course, Bruce offers to adopt her, but Helena canât bring herself to fully accept this worldâs Bruce as her dad yet, nor could she handle being official, legal siblings with her brothers and sister. She still hasnât adjusted to them, how they are now, how young they all are, how younger Damian is. If anything, sheâs most okay with Duke Thomas, someone she had never met in her universe.
To her surprise, as they contemplate making her a fake civilian identity, Selina offers to adopt Helena. Helena, after thinking it over, accepts. She would not have as much hounding from the press, from the media, from the public, as she would if she was adopted into the Waynes. She would not have to deal with the weirdness that was her alternate universe siblings as much, living with Selina. (Not that she needed to live with Selina, she was 21, after all, but Selina had told her that she was welcome to crash in her house anytime- an offer she often took up on when the Manor was stressing her out.) Selina was still a criminal in this universe, but she only robbed banks from time to time, really, nothing major, and she was slowly becoming more hero and ally than superthief by the time Helena had come to this world. Selina had been dead for only 2 years to Helena, while Bruce had been for 4 years, and had died when Helena was young and not used to death. Bruceâs death had a bigger impact on her (alongside Tim and Bertinelliâs), but with Selina, it was easy to imagine she had simply been gone for two years.
So, Helena became Helena Martha Maria Kyle, adopted daughter of Selina Kyle. She slowly built herself a civilian life, working for a law firm under Wayne Enterprises in honor of her friend Charles and his job. And a superhero life, too, as the Huntress. Of course, since Bertilleni was also known as the Huntress, Helena often went by Little Hunt. They called her Little H and Little Huntress at first, but it reminded her too much of her old world, that she requested they use Little Hunt instead. It was similar, of course, but just different enough. Just like this world was compared to hers.
She worked solo, with Catwoman, with the Batfamily, and with the Birds of Prey mostly. It was a challenge, she would say, to adapt back into the old rules of âNo Killingâ... Itâs a dark secret of hers that she became more ruthless ever since the death of her father, blood soaking her hands. But she was almost relieved to be back to No Killing- as, to her, it meant no war. No death. No pain.
Catwoman seemed to reform completely right alongside her, and the day Bruce proposed to Selina, Helena couldnât be more happier. She was finally ready to be officially apart of the Waynes again. Selina married Bruce, and Helena took on the Wayne name, becoming Helena Martha Maria Kyle-Wayne, loud and proud. It was weird, but somehow she got used to Damian being younger- and boy did she discover how fun it was to tease him. And alongside that, she got two new younger sisters too, in the form of Carrie Kelley and Alina Shelley-Wayne. Her family, she will say, was much, much more bigger than it had ever been in her own world.
Eventually, as years passed, she found herself more attached to this world than her war torn world. She often wonders, if given the chance, would she still choose to go back to her old world, her old family? Itâs a question she can never answer. And one she might not have too, as the Kara of Earth Never-Two would eventually find a way onto Earth Never-One.

Oh boy, oh buddy, this was such a wild ask to receive, let me tell you.
Ok, so, you know the whole Earth-3 stuff? The evil version of the world where all the heroes are actually villains? Well on Earth-3, the evil equivalent of Batman is Owlman. And instead of being Bruce, itâs Thomas Wayne Jr, Bruceâs older brother.
When Thomas was a kid, he decided to kill his parents. He tried to convince Bruce to help him, Bruce was hesitant, so Thomas killed him as well (plus Alfred helped kill his parents, so thereâs that). Also, despite the fact that he actually killed Bruce, he talked about missing him a lot and that Bruce was the person Thomas loved most in the world.
We flash forward a bunch of years, and Thomas goes to see a circus performance. Thomas meets a young Richard Grayson there, and decides that the boyâs worthy of joining his life (and filling the hole left behind by Bruceâs murder death). So, as one does, Thomas kills Richardâs family in order to take him. He then raised Richard to follow in his evil-doing footsteps, and Richard (also called âTalonâ) became extremely loyal.
However, one day, Thomas decided to tell Richard the truth about what really happened to his family, sure that Richard was loyal enough by this point that everything would work out alright. Instead, Richard got super pissed (because duh) and decided to track down and kill Owlmanâs biggest enemy, the Joker, in order to take that away from Thomas. But in the fight between Richard and the Joker, Richard was killed.
There have been multiple occasions of the Earth-3 villains coming to Earth Prime over the years, and whenever Owlman appears he always has the side goal of replacing the Richard he lost with the Dick of Earth Prime. Which is so many levels of creepy.

The Robin 80th Anniversary Special
It's not a secret that I'm first and foremost a Dick Grayson fan, whether he comes dressed as Robin, Nightwing, Batman or something else. But I try to be charitable and be happy for fans of the other Robins that they got a pice of the birthday cake, i. e. the Robin 80th Anniversary Special.
For your enjoyment (?), here are my thoughts about the book. Spoilers ahead, obviously â don't like, don't read!
I honestly thought almost all of the stories were ok â but pretty forgettable. Marv Wolfman's spin on Dick leaving to become Nightwing, in "A little nudge" (art by Tom Grummett and Scott Hanna), is probably the only one I will remember and reference in the future. I don't know if or how it is supposed to fit into the (any?) continuity, but as far as I can see, it works nicely in the current setting.
Dick's parting from Robin and Bruce was successively portrayed as more and more hostile. When he originally left Robin to become Nightwing (1983â1984), the two still had a good relationship. This changed in comics to, first, that Bruce decided to retire Robin, and then to that Bruce outright fired Dick and kicked him out of the cave. This lead to that their relationship was portrayed as poor, antagonistic even, for a good many comics years.
The bad mood was picked up by Batman The Animated Series, where Dick left being resentful of Bruce and his methods.
I don't have a lot of good things to say about what has happened to the Bat-family after Flashpoint. But from what we've seen from scattered panels, Dick was the one who decided he wanted to leave Robin. You can read Marv Wolfman's story as confirmation of that. Which is nice.
Bruce is only a little bit of a jerk in this story, being utterly rigid about that Robin has to follow orders. Dick, however, chooses to stay with a kid that had been shot instead of following the criminals.
Dick has had it with Bruce's rules and leaves the cave, but he says "later" rather than "goodbye".
It's made clear that those strict rules were Bruce's way to say, "I know you've grown up, and you should move on; I'll be fine without you."
Batman # 408, where Bruce decides to retire Robin because he got scared when the Joker shot Dick, is firmly established in my mind as the "correct" leaving story in my mind. It was the only one I had read and knew of for many years, and the two still part on decent terms. But Marv Wolfman's 80th Anniversary version has a lot going for it.
On to the rest of the stories...
"Aftershocks" By Chuck Dixon, art Scott McDaniel and Rob Hunter.
Set during Cataclysm (a storyline from 1998) where Dick lived in BlĂźdhaven before he moved back to Gotham and became Batman. It's an action-filled story where (fingerstripe) Nightwing comes to Gotham after an earthquake has hit the city.
It's interesting to read this, living through the corona crisis that is going on right now. I don't know how it is where you live, but where I am, people are setting up networks to help people who can't go out to shop or walk the dog, University students are helping kids do their math lessons with the help of Facebook, people make masks for health workers etc. But when Chuck Dixon writes what happens after a catastrophe, Dick has to fight his way through masked thugs who are trying to rob an ambulance of "painkillers and tranks" when he tries to save a cab from falling with a damaged bridge. A woman is giving birth inside the car, and the story ends with that the mother wants to name the boy after Nightwing.
"Well...Robin works, right", he says.
"Team building" by Devin Grayson, art Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapund.
Well, I'll always soak up everything that has to do with Dick and the Titans â Teen Titans, New Teen Titans, Titans, any Titans...
Devin Grayson wrote The Titans 1999â2000, which is the setting of this story. Most of it takes place inside a H.I.V.E. locale, where an exasperated boss (Damien Darkh) chews out his soldiers after a fight with the Titans. But Darkh decides not to kill the lot of them, because they did distract the Titans while he stole a red crystal/power source. Of course, it turns out Dick is the soldier who has kept his helmet on; he takes the crystal with him and gives Darkh a bit of advice on team-building on his way out.
"Generally speaking, fear of execution isn't a great motivator. I've found basic team-building and morale-boosting to be much more effective. Like, I'm just spitballing here, but... You ever consider a pizza night?"
Well, it did keep me amused, and it shows us that Dick is a good leader and strategist, (and a great acrobat who manages to get out of the H.I.V.E. uniform with one hand, on the way out), although it isn't exactly a surprise that Dick was in the building when you get near the end.
"The Lesson Plan" by Tom King and Tim Seeley, art Mikel JanĂn.
Now, I do like some things about the Grayson run, but with a bit of distance, I've realized it was mostly the art. The sexualization of Dick and how King and Seely wrote him as a guy who jumps first and plans never got tiresome. This story is in-character for Grayson; Dick is accompanied by a girl (Paris) from St Hadrian's on a mission, and on the way, he remembers the lessons Batman gave him and imparts his own interpretation of them to Paris. As is Batman says, "plan everything", and Dick says "Improvise. Leap first... figure it all out on the way down." Ergo, classic King and Seeley. Also, it is possibly implied Dick made out with a beautiful girl that turned out to be gorilla in disguise...? Yep, vintage King and Seeley.
Other than that, I don't have a big problem with the story. Some things ring true to me â as when Dick remembers Batman saying, "At their core, people are cowardly and self-serving. Trust no one until you know them. And even then, never completely". And what Dick says is, "Give the benefit of the doubt until you gotta knock 'em out."
For my own peace of mind, I'm reading this as Dick is half-joking with his advice. It's not like we've never seen him make plans and be suspicious post-Flashpoint.
On a side note, one of the best characterizations of Dick Grayson to my mind is a panel from Black Mirror. When Dick explains he had injected James Gordon Jr with a subdermal tracer, and says about himself, "I am a softie. And I do try to see the best in people... but that doesn't mean I'm stupid."

"More Time" by Judd Winnick, art Dustin Nguyen.
Jason has a cute story about him repairing Thomas Wayne's watch as a present to Bruce. He started the work as a tiny Robin (too tiny, in my opinion, but with Dustin Nguyen on art it probably couldn't turn out any other way) and finished the work as Red Hood. Jason delivers the present to Bruce on his birthday, placing it on the Batmobile while it is parked in a Gotham alley.
"Extra Credit" by Adam Beechen, art Freddie E. Williams II.
Tim has an appointment with the guidance counsellor at Gotham City High School. Tim sees a future in law enforcement (that's the first I've heard of that, but I'm no expert on Tim) and he's adopted (again, something I haven't seen post-Flashpoint). But the counsellor doubts that Tim will be admitted because he has nothing to show when it comes to extracurricular activities. It's kind of a fun few pages where the counsellor suggests things that Tim could do, and Tim thinks about what he does as Robin on his spare time.
"Boy Wonders" by James Tynion IV, art Javier Fernandez.
Tim, Red Robin, is unsure what he wants to do with his life and goes to his brothers? fellow Robins? for advice.
I know emotions have been running high because Dick tells Tim that he is "demonstrably smarter" than he is, which makes it sound as if Dick is not really smart at all.
Again, for my peace of mind, I choose to read this as I want: that "big brother" Dick is encouraging, he has always thought highly of Tim, he has no ego to preserve. This doesn't make Dick a reliable narrator on the subject, and the page ends with that Tim thinks "He was the first. He's the best. He's always going to be the role model. "So, two brothers who admire each other.
Tim also talks to Jason and Tim, and the story ends with that he tells Batman he wants to start Gotham Knights protocol, the team in Detective Comics (Rebirth.) 2016-2018.
"Fitting In" by Amy Wolfram, art Damion Scott.
Stephanie, as Robin has problems because Tim's Robin suit doesn't fit her female body. But at the end of the day, Bruce gives Stephanie her own "changing room" in the Bat-cave, because she's female.
...are Bruce and Alfred idiots? Did Dick, Jason and Tim have exactly the same body type when they were Robin? Stephanie deserved a story worth being told, not this one.
"My Best Friend" by Peter J. Tomasi, art Jorge Jimenez.
Jonathan Kent writes a school essay about his best friend, Damian. As he writes the words on his laptop at home, they are illustrated with pcitures of the two as both Robin and Superboy, and as Damian and Jon in civvies. Tomasi and Jimenez worked with Super Sons (2017â2019), and though I didn't read that, I'm pretty sure this story is an extra chapter in that series.
"Bat and Mouse" by Robbie Thompson, art Ramon Villalobos.
It's not the worst story in the book, but somehow the one I disliked the most. It is part of what is going on in Teen Titans and Bat-titles right now; we see Alfred's tombstone and how Batman and Robin have a strained relationship and difficulties in communicating. I'm not keeping up with what is going on with Damian and Bruce in detail, so I really can't say whether this story is consistent with how things have been going lately. I'll let Bruce-and-Damian fans take that ball.
To be honest, my reaction to "Bat and Mouse" is probably due to that I really, really don't like what's happened in the Bat titles lately. I firmly hope that the current situation will be changed and Alfred will be alive again, and I wish I could go back and re-read this book years from now without being reminded of this very dark time when DC seemingly doesn't want any money from me for new comics...
Being who I am, I probably take it waaaaay too seriously to try to understand where/if these stories fit in the DC continuity... The writers have probably (rightly) thought more about writing a good story than making it consistent with any grand plan for a timeline for all of the DC universe. But whatever.
The Grayson story clearly happens in a post-Flashpoint universe, as does Damian's and Tim's stories. But Tim says he's adopted, which I believe has never been said outright post-Flashpoint. And Stephanie has as far as I know not been Robin in this continuity. Chuck Dixon's Nightwing story is explicitly set during Cataclysm (a storyline from 1998) where Dick lived in BlĂźdhaven before he moved back to Gotham and became Batman. Post-Flashpoint, he moves to BlĂźdhaven for the first time in Nightwing vol 4., so Dixon's story should take place in the old continuity.
On the other hand. The last pages of the book are made to look like profile overviews in the Bat-computer and use pictures from different Robin runs. If the snippets of information are supposed to be the current continuity for the Robins, a lot from the pre-Flashpoint universe is back in canon.
Shortly, Dick was adopted (that's the word they use), formed the Teen Titans, moved to BlĂźdhaven and was Agent 37 for a while. BlĂźdhaven comes before Agent 37, but it's not explicitly stated when he first moved there. Because if Dick was in BlĂźdhaven before his time with Spyral, it is inconsistent with parts of Rebirth Nightwing. (Which I can live with...)
Jason's story starts as the street kid who tries to steal the tires of the Batmobile, his stint as Robin was short, and today, Red Hood has formed a tenuous alliance with Batman. Tim uncovered Batman's secret and made a bid to become the new Robin â and his new moniker "Drake" is acknowledged. Stephanie was Robin for a very short while. Damian was created with genetic material that Talia stole after a romantic tryst with Bruce, and he was bred to be an assassin.
Personally, of course, I think that Dick Grayson was worth more of an effort from DC on his 80th anniversary. But on the whole, the things we got were decent, "A little nudge" gave me something I will keep with me, and several of the covers are great.

What if Kate and Bruce were born around the same time? What if the tragedies that made them the heroes they become, also happened around the same time? What if the two of them ended up living together? What if the two of them ended up as huge theater nerds? What if they had some actual healthy coping mechanisms along side their totally not super unhealthy vigilante detective hobby that nearly kills them on a weekly basis? What if everything wasn't a shitty cheap ass drama show written by racist, misogynist, homophobic, all the bad ism's and phobia's and ist's?
(No disrespect to the individuals who try to give us good diverse content. Actually, all the respect because DC as whole is a weak dumb ass bitch and kudos to those people for tolerating that bastard.)
Here is my sad, pathetic attempt to fix the DC universe that I am very much under qualified and under prepared for. Enjoy. (And I'll get to finishing the relationship tags soon, it's just not on the agenda right about now. There is just so many fucking characters. The character tags are technically unfinished because that won't be all of the characters showing up. Do I really hate myself and DC that much?)

JOKER IS WHAT GOTHAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN
Instead of trying to build up to the familiar canon of Batman, it should have been a radical reinvention of the mythos, taking the most interesting ideas from Batman Elseworlds stories and mixing them together.
Much as Joker took inspiration from Scorceseâs Taxi Driver and King of Comedy, my plotlines draw from famous cinema.
SEASON 1
So. Failed actor turned D-list celebrity TV cop Harvey Bullock arrives in Gotham and is partnered with James Gordon, a cop beaten into corruption by the âaccidentalâ death of his wife years prior (Batman: Earth One). Gotham is where the crime is, and Bullock wants a big catch.
Gordon hates Harvey causing trouble (he develops a particular rivalry with the corrupt Vice cops). Gordon has problem child James Jr (Batman: Year One) to worry about. At the same time, Bullockâs partnership leads him to meet Detective Sarah Essen. The two strike up a friendship that slowly blossoms into romance as he gets over the death of his wife.
Thomas Wayne is running for Mayor against current mayor Oswald Cobblepot Sr (Earth One). This drives a wedge between childhood best friends (and spoilt brats) Bruce and Ozzie Jr (Gothamâs version mixed with the Telltale Batman games and Tommy Elliot).
Arkham Asylum is non-existent; Arkham House is long abandoned following the insanity of Amadeus Arkham (Earth One, A Serious House on a Serious Earth); Gothamâs insane are instead kept in the Crane Institute. Unbeknownst to the public the mob has their enemies transferred here where theyâre experiment on by the establishmentâs head doctor Johnathan Crane (Batman Begins). Public care is inadequate and under-funded: patients start slipping through the cracks, including one Arthur Fleck.
This doesnât bother the Waynes: Thomasâ wife Martha may be an Arkham (not a Kane - Earth One) and people may worry about her inheriting the family âdiseaseâ but theyâre getting the very best private therapy from Dr Hugo Strange (inspired by NBCâs Hannibal: a cultured wolf in sheepâs clothing manipulating his patients to see what happens).
In a Gotham University dorm Edward Nygma is about to revolutionise the tech industry with a group of his peers (a la The Social Network) becoming millionaires nearly overnight and catapulting themselves into Gothamâs elite. Nygma starts systematically cutting his peers out of profit.
Meanwhile, young up-and-coming hitman Floyd Lawton is given a secret job by mob king Carmine Falcone: Keep young Selina Kyle alive. He whisks her through the Red Light district and the Narrows as mob enforcers and corrupt cops attempt to kill them both (Leon: The Professional mixed with Catwoman: When in Rome, where Selina is Falconeâs illegitimate daughter)
Brilliant but downtrodden Wayne Medical employee Kirk Langstrom â colleague of Lucius Fox â appeals to his boss Thomas Wayne at a political rally after his attempts to make an appointment have been thwarted. Lagngstrom begs Thomas not to cut funding for Medical â his project is a cure for deafness for not only himself but his young son, a musical prodigy who risks losing his ticket out of this godforsaken city. Embarrassed, Wayne fires Langstrom in private.
But Thomas has his own problems. The illuminati of Gothamâs elite, the Court of Owls, are pressuring him to become Mayor as a way for the Waynes to get back in their good books after their rocky history. Oswald Sr isnât one of them, a street rat with charisma being propped up by mob support, without the âDivine right to ruleâ but heâs the favourite amongst Gothamâs disillusioned lower classes.
Arthur Fleckâs rise plays out, riots break out across the city.
Floyd Lawton takes advantage of the chaos to fake Selinaâs death and hide her in the Red Light district, to finally stop people coming after her. He has to abandon her.
Worried about his familyâs safety in these troubled times, Thomas has already called in his gruff, one-legged war buddy Alfred Pennyworth (Earth One) as his new head of security.
Arrogant young Bruce runs off, breaking Alfredâs security protocols, angry he canât see the end of a movie. He provokes a rioter, who kills Thomas in front of him and Martha. Martha, already near breaking point thanks to Hugo Strangeâs âtherapyâ, snaps, and disappears into the riots. Young Bruce is rescued from the rioters by Alfred, Gordon and Bullock.
Arthur Fleck finds the distraught Martha amidst the chaos and takes her under his wing: She becomes his Harlequin (a version of Flashpointâs Joker). He projects his complicated relationship with his mother onto her (Bates Motel/Psycho) and their relationship quickly turns abusive.
Alfred, as per Thomasâ wishes, reluctantly becomes Bruceâs guardian. They blame each other for Thomasâ death. Gordon also takes on a parental role (Gotham) and he and Alfred butt heads over whatâs best for the boy.
Bruce takes his motherâs place as Hugo Strangeâs patient.
With Thomas Wayne dead Oswald Sr stays Mayor; behind closed doors he proves to be a depraved sadist (Earth One, Batman Returns) inspired by Toby Jonesâ character from Sherlock 4x02 The Lying Detective
Edward Nygma, having gotten rid of all his former partners, takes advantage of Thomasâ death and buys up Waynetech â he is now one of the richest men in America and has everything he ever wanted.
Bruce is convinced his father was assassinated on Oswald Srâs orders and tells Gordon so. Gordon ignores him so (under Hugo Strangeâs encouragement) he forces Alfred to start training him in self-defence so he can bring Cobblepot to his own justice.
Bruceâs conviction destroys the last of his friendship with Ozzie Jr; Thomasâ death has humbled Bruce, Ozzie remains arrogant and privileged.

What if Kate and Bruce were born around the same time? What if the tragedies that made them the heroes they become, also happened around the same time? What if the two of them ended up living together? What if the two of them ended up as huge theater nerds? What if they had some actual healthy coping mechanisms along side their totally not super unhealthy vigilante detective hobby that nearly kills them on a weekly basis? What if everything wasn't a shitty cheap ass drama show written by racist, misogynist, homophobic, all the bad ism's and phobia's and ist's?
(No disrespect to the individuals who try to give us good diverse content. Actually, all the respect because DC as whole is a weak dumb ass bitch and kudos to those people for tolerating that bastard.)
Here is my sad, pathetic attempt to fix the DC universe that I am very much under qualified and under prepared for. Enjoy. City of Bane, part 7

SYNOPSIS + REVIEW
Welcome to another review of this sinking ship.
Back in issue fifty, we found out that all the plots in the book were part of Baneâs plan, even the ones that had nothing to do with him, or the overall plan. Well, itâs issue 81 now and it turns out... it was Batmanâs plan all along, to fall for Baneâs plan.
Remember that time Bruce punched Tim in the face? It was all part of the plan! Because someone could have been watching them, so this punch in the face meant âletâs set everything upâ.
Damian being captured was also part of the plan (but Alfred dying wasnât). So if you still remember that horrible issue where Damian and Tim were fighting over whether going into Gotham could kill Alfred or not, well, turns out that Alfred actually escaped before that. But I guess they caught him and killed him. That is... a very strange loop you created King... it would have been interesting to see that, but I suppose you rewrote the dialogues over finished art.
So now the whole Bat-team (well, Tim, Damian, Batgirl, Batwoman, Duke, Huntress and Orphan), rescues Damian and try to put an end to Thomas, but they eventually get beaten to a pulp by him. Tim being stabbed by an arrow in the heart (it seems, but Romita Jrâs anatomy is ambiguous). I completely forgot Batgirl was in this issue by the way, she is not justified. Well, hardly anyone is justified.
Part of this crazy plan we never even heard about, started when Batman discovered Gotham Girlâs powers came from super venom, a very special strand created by Bane, just before he forgot how to make more. Batmanâs plan was to go to Hawaii, in as very suspicious chain of events that only a precog could have imagined. That super-venom they intercepted was supposed to go to Gotham Girl and now I am not sure what they are going to do, but it is safe to assume that it will involve lazy writing.
The art is a mess. Half of the time I had to imagine what I was actually looking at, because Romitaâs close-ups are too damn close to distinguish what you are seeing.
Look, I hate to be that guy, but this is what happens when you get an overrated team (I am going to let Klaus Janson and Tomeu Morey out of this discussions as they have proved to be very reliable and talented). Usually what really works with Kingâs run, is the art. But now it seems like King and Romita are dragging each other down. If I gave this plot to another team:Â âThe bat-family fights Thomas Wayne to avenge Alfredâ, it would probably be very cool and end up being one of the greatest moments in Batman history. But in this case you will probably remember how ugly it looked, and then you will remember all the money you wasted in this run. In fact, you will have learned a powerful lesson, do not invest in 85-issue runs written by a writer left unchecked. And while Romitaâs art doesnât fit the book, the thing that really makes it worse is the story.
As I said before, King had 85 issues to tell this story. Why are we getting the whole plot in caption boxes instead of flashbacks? Flashbacks could have made this nonsense work better. Instead he decided to do the war of jokes and riddles, and knightmare... that willie e. coyote issue, that story where the Penguin married an actual penguin...
I like his ambiguous writing but in a limited format, in stories that may or may not be canon. When he overextends his stories, things start to fall apart more easily.
The first thing I thought when I was on page two was... pencils, inks... all of them done by a team (or so I thought), yet the writer is only King. They should have paired him with another writer if they were too lazy to put capable editors in the book. 85 issues is too much. I would expect someone to actually check on his stories, just to be sure they make sense.
And then thereâs those odd pages at the end by Mitch Gerads. I do not know what the point was, I assume it was a âYear of the Villainâ âslice of life?â. Maybe Gerads could have used those pages to flesh out the flashbacks this story needed.
I feel like itâs too late to fix this thing. I canât wait for this run to be over and discover it was all Alfredâs dream.
I give this issue a score of 2.

i havenât drawn them yet but i do have more ideas for earth 3 gotham rogues, specifically black mask and great white shark (jesus this got long)
roman sionis was still made to be friends with bruce wayne when they were really young, since the sionis family wanted to get close to the waynes before they were seen as competition
thomas jr didnât like roman at all and spend more time handling their parents but let bruce hang out with roman to appease them, and instead of hating bruce, roman realized that he was going through a similar thing as him with the abusive, fake parents deal... so bruce told roman what he and thomas jr were gonna do, and promised him that theyâd take his parents out too, after they set up
well... that didnât happen the way bruce thought it would.
when the news got out about the tragic death of all but thomas wayne jr that fateful night, he knew immediately that thomas jr had killed his only friend, and hated him, hated him to bits, hated him forever
roman continued playing along with his family, suddenly very interested in the family business, janus cosmetics. his parents thought it was just because he realized how important things were now that a family close to them was murdered by some ârabbleâ, and soon he was already started on the path to becoming ceo, his parents very happy with him (though not without often jabbing at him about how they never thought heâd get that far, â with, yâknow, how you areâ )
he had a plan set to get his parents out of the picture, but before he could do anything, a fire broke out at the sionis summer home, where roman and bruce would often pretend to camp out in the gardens. he made it out with burns on his hands and face, though none as bad as the burns around his right eye. the rest healed well but left reddish patches of skin all along his face and hands. his parents did not fare as well, and they were found half-burnt, caught halfway in a panic room.
while recovering, roman was approached by thomas wayne jr, who offered to buy his company, since he was âburnt outâ. it took everything in roman not to launch himself at the man and kill him, but noticing his retainer, alfred, in the doorframe... he simply accepted, but under the condition that roman could still run janus cosmetics. he hadnât run into the ground yet, after all, and why get rid of the figurehead?
so now, roman sionis runs janus cosmetics, waiting until he has a chance to finally get revenge for the only person he could relate to. he wears a mask over the more peely skin around his eye, but keeps the rest of his face out, often making videos demonstrating makeup for the internet. he has a fairly large following for his grim humor, and he hopes to keep himself liked well enough that thomas jr doesnât think to kill him off.
now, for warren white.
warren white liked to pretend his was a real estate mogul. liked to pretend he was influential and popular and rich and important.
but he wasnât.
but god, could he pretend it! he was very good at faking, and faked it he did... he would dress up in stolen suits and go to parties uninvited, fitting right in with the ostentatious and vain. he could slip into anything, worked a crowd like heâd always been there, got rich friends who forgot his face the moment he disappeared, but theyâd still âlendâ him paltry sums in their eyes... and he would continue, over and over, as he tried to build his fortune, or at least something good enough to play off as being âminimalistâ and âeccentricâ.
things changed when he wandered into a wayne manor party, not really thinking of any danger associated with the name. he did his dance, laughing and drinking and joking... until he ran into one roman sionis.
now, roman had seen this man before. heâd been at a launch party for one of romanâs more popular make up lines, working through his lines and jokes and playfully calculated clumsiness.. and noticed immediately that he was faking the whole time. there was no company with his name, no âgreat white sharkâ... just the concept, floating in the collected consciousness of the rich and famous.
so roman played him, acting as though he knew he was very busy, very important businessman and investor he was, and asked if heâd like to talk business later on. warren happily agreed, though he was just a tad drunk... and wasnât the least bit aware that there were owls eyes watching his every move.
out of thomas jrâs sight, warren and roman grew to be close friends, with warren dodging questions and flattering roman into forgetting discrepancies in his stories, and roman giving him money and inviting him to new summer homes, private yacht parties, trying to keep the guppy out of the owlâs sight.
... until the owl struck anyway.
sent on an all expense paid cruise, warren thought he was on cloud nine, playing another sucker that... seemed to actually care, though he rationalized it as weird old-money pity. he almost felt bad using the man. it was too bad that sea-king just happened to attack that very same cruise... and that he was the only one not slaughtered. he was found at the gotham docks on the leftovers of a lifeboat, bleeding out all over his suit... fake gills freshly cut into his throat: a warning to roman for having âpet projectsâ.
warren didnât die, the cuts superficial on purpose. he was, however, incredibly traumatized by what he saw and experienced, and once he was able to talk again... he told roman that he was using him the whole time, sobbing through apologies and ugly gurgling.
and roman replied that he knew, and had been using him too.
roman had been using warrens wide knowledge of the rich and famous of gotham to try and find others against the owl, learning of the justice league. he was going to do what he could to find and assist them, even if he didnât care about the rest of the crime sydicate. he would get his revenge for this too.
warren would recover, practically glued to romanâs side, and would continue seeking connections and contact with the justice league, playing as a personal assistant. it would only be a matter of time before they answered... right?

Messed With The Wrong Heart - fic
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Talia al Ghul, Lincoln March, Alfred Pennyworth, bits of Clark and Diana Summary:Â He had a feeling this would happen one day. It was a simple solution to a mutual problem, an almost mutual goal. An easy team-up. It was shocking it took them so long to think of it. A/N: I probably didnât do it justice but I have just been so obsessed with two major baddies teaming up against Bruce to get at 1+ of his kids. I had such a blast writing this, even though Iâm bad at fight scenes. Bruce probably ran into Talia or Lincoln prior or found out about their plans somehow in a case etc etc. Dick and Damian (and the other kids) had no idea about anything beyond there being a threat Batman had to take care of. Bruce sedated/headphoneâd Dick and Damian so there would be no chance of them interfering in the fight or attempts to sacrifice themselves to keep him safe. Bruce is very guilty/not guilty about doing it though. He also sent the others away to protect them as well.Â

It wasnât complicated.
He sent Tim away to his Titans, Jason to his Outlaws. Cassandra to the protection of Kate, Barbara and Stephanie.
Didnât tell them anything. The less they knew, the safer they were. They knew something, though. All of his children did. Knew there was a threat coming, knew they wanted to help their father and should stay at his side.
No, he wouldnât hear of it. Shooed them all away. He could handle this himself.
Would, even if he had to die to do so.
He stood at the top of the stairs, watching, waiting. His only light was the moon shining through the giant windows of the manor. He had some weapons nearby, but not on him. Had no tools on him, in fact. Was just in sweatpants and a tshirt. Socks.
But ready. Oh, he was so ready.
He had a feeling this would happen one day. It was a simple solution to a mutual problem, an almost mutual goal. An easy team-up.
It was shocking it took them so long to think of it.
He heard the sudden call of disturbed birds in the trees outside, checked his watch. Barely the middle of the night.
He tapped a button. Heard the locks click shut on the door down the hall. Cracked his knuckles, stretched his neck. Smirked.
Bring it on.
The glass of those giant windows shattered, attackers crashing through in waves of two, three, four, six.
Some wore maroon, covered their mouths. Others wore black, gold, facemasks with large black eyes.
The League of Shadows. The Court of Owls.
They all jumped. All had various blades already drawn. Bruce didnât care. Grabbed one assassin before he landed and swung him like a bat, taking out the line of fighters behind him easily.
A Talon tried to use that to her advantage, and duck around Bruceâs arms. He merely kicked backwards, hitting her spine. Flipped over her, and out of the way of others. Flung her body towards another mob of them, and barely held back his laugh as they tumbled comically down the stairs.
The numbers didnât matter. Their means didnât matter. He was prepared for this. Had prepared for this since day one. Since he started being Batman. Since he started being a father.
Not to mention: fighting was in his blood. For him, fighting was fun.
Especially when he knew how to win. Especially when he knew he was going to win.
Especially when it was for love.
Besides, these were just the lackeys. He could let every single one of them go past if he felt like it. Theyâd be taken down when they got to their destination. When they got to that door he locked with a deadbolt, combination lock, and defense system even he couldnât get through. And even if they got through that, there was Hell and the Devil himself waiting for them inside.
But these fighters werenât the main players. Oh, no. And even as he fought them, and beat them, he kept his eye out. Looked past them, for the two who were no doubt already present, somewhere in this house.
Them, he would not let by. Not ever. Not even if they killed him. Over his dead body and all that, but even if he was cold and bloodless, he wouldnât let those two win. He wouldnât let those two get near that door.
So he fought and he waited. Enjoyed the fight and enjoyed the waiting. Mostly because he didnât have to hold back, not really, not here. He wouldnât kill, of course not, still wouldnât cross that line â unless he absolutely had to.
But he didnât have to have mercy.
Because under the smile and the enjoyment, was pure, raging fury. How dare they. How dare every single one of these human beings, living or modified.
How dare the two he was waiting for.
They should have known better. Their leaders, the special two, did. So were they insane, trying the same thing over and over again? Or were they just stupid?
In the long run, he supposed, as he punched a Talon into an assassin and knocked them both unconscious against the wall, it didnât really matter.
He figured it was time, when he noticed that there were no more enemies coming through the windows. When he was thrown against the banister next to the stairs, and saw that his front door had been opened.
So he dodged the next punch. Ducked the next stab, took the weapon and slashed at the back of both his attackersâ knees, then rolled to the wall, where his weapons still sat waiting. He grabbed a few smoke pellets, launching them straight into the faces of the mob running after him.
There were a few small clicks, a few louder hisses, then the landing was engulfed in gray.
He took down the remaining thugs with ease.
When he knocked the last assassin down for the count, tossing his unconscious body into a few Talons in a similar state, he just slowly backed out of the fog. Kept himself between the stairs and the door, his fists at the ready.
And when the smoke cleared, there they were. At the top of the stairs, one with a sword, the other a dagger.
âI want my son.â Talia said simply.
âI want my warrior.â Lincoln March added.
âToo.â Bruce looked to Talia. âFucking.â He looked to Lincoln. âBad.â
Lincoln clicked his tongue and shook his head like he was disappointed. Talia just blinked slowly, and sighed.
Then, they came at him.
He blocked Taliaâs blade while he kicked at Lincoln. The Owl got the blade into his calf before he went flying backwards, crashing into portrait of the grandparents they supposedly shared. Lincoln got right back up, plucked another dagger from the belt across his chest and came running back.
Talia just kept hacking at him. Pulling her sword and slashing it back down with even more force than before. Over and over and over. She was hitting his arm, his blood was spraying across her face, but she didnât care. He knew that look in her eye. She was desperate. Crazed. Murderous.
She would get what she wanted, whether she killed her Beloved or not.
And even after all this time, it broke Bruceâs heart to fight her. To have to punch her in the throat and send her tumbling away as he turned to deal with Lincoln.
But he just couldnât let her hurt their son again.
Lincoln was screaming as he came at him. Bruce merely ducked, let his âbrotherâ tumble over his shoulders. Lincoln gave another shout as he flopped to the floor, floundering to get himself righted.
âYou were never supposed to have him!â Lincoln roared as he got to his feet. âHe was promised to us!â
Bruce stood and looked at him with an emotionless gaze.
âDick Grayson is not a thing to be owned.â Bruce countered. And it was hypocritical, he knew, and maybe showed just how similar he and this potential sibling of his were. âBut I will never let you take him from me.â
If Lincoln was going to respond, Bruce didnât care. Not when he heard Talia leaping at his back.
He dodged her swing, yanking the sword from her grasp and snapping it against his knee, throwing the remnants over the banister. Caught her fists as she tried to slam them into his face and chest, pushed her kicks away like they were nothing.
âYou didnât want him.â She hissed. âYou never wanted him. Heâs in this world because I said he could be. Now give him back.â
âNever.â Bruce swore. âIâll never let you or your rotten father near him again so long as I live.â A pause, to correct. âSo long as youâre like this.â
âHe needs his mother.â
âHe needs love.â Bruce pushed, trying to keep the begging out of his voice as her hits forced him back, as the railing began to dig into his spine. âAnd even I canât give him the love he deserves, Iâll admit that â but this family can.â
Talia didnât respond to that. Just let out a battle cry as she kicked out the railing behind him, and the wood shattered.
And he didnât want to do it â he didnât. But he had to. He had to win here, he had to beat her and Lincoln. He had to protect that door.
As he started to fall backwards, at the last possible second, he grabbed her instead. Used his momentum to pull himself up while simultaneously throwing her from the top floor of the manor.
She was so light compared to him that she flew instead of dropped. Hit her head on the nearby chandelier. Was unconscious before she hit the bodies of her army on the ground.
He grabbed the broken railing to balance himself, feeling blood blossom on his palm. He couldnât lament his actions right now, or even take a moment to rest. Because Lincoln was still there. Lincoln March â maybe Thomas Wayne Jr. â he was still an annoyance that had to be dealt with.
So he tightened his grip on that broken banister and ripped it from its frame. Shifted his hold on it to be more comfortable, and turned towards Owlman.
The other was still on his knees, new knives in hand, deciding his next move. Bruce didnât care. Heâd bested this man before, and heâd gleefully do it again. So when Lincoln inhaled, when he shifted to move and use those blades, Bruce leapt and swung. As quick as he could. As hard as he could
Over and over and over and over.
Even when Lincoln collapsed, Bruce didnât stop. Just kept swinging. Kept hitting this man who threatened his family. Threatened one of his children.
Hitting and hitting and hitting and hitting and hitting.
The spray of blood didnât stop him, nor the ache building in his arms. It was a groan from nearby. One of the assassins or Talons, already starting to wake up.
And he could fight them again, maybe. But he couldnât guarantee a victory, not with the injuries already sustained, the energy he already used. Could still win, probably would. But not guarantee.
He needed to be able to guarantee, here.
So he gave one last hit, then dropped the stick and backed away. Huffed and puffed for a few moments, then carefully dropped his shoulders, closed his eyes and leaned his face up towards the ceiling.
âItâs done.â
A second later, he heard the whipping of a cape in one of the windows. Glanced over his shoulder to find Clark and Diana.
âAnd everyoneâs okay?â Clark asked, eyes darting around the bodies. He didnât mean the criminals, of course.
Bruce turned to glance back at the door down the hall. âEveryoneâs fine.â
âThen weâll start loading out. Iâll call the others to help, so we can get out of here faster.â Clark sniffed. âYou guys have somewhere to go tonight? The manor isâŚâ
âOnly the foyer is damaged. The rest of the house is fine.â Bruce grunted, stepping forward, not-so-accidentally kicking Lincoln March in the head as he did.
ââŚBruce.â It was Diana, gently landing behind him, putting a hand on his shoulder. âYouâre injured. Thereâs blood everywhere. Let us fix you up first.â
He immediately shrugged her off. âThe first thing you two should do is get Talia and Owlman the fuck out of my house.â Then quieter: âAnd Iâm fine, Diana. Nothing serious. But thank you.â
Diana hesitated at the answer, but sighed anyway. Bruce watched her stoop and sling Lincoln March over her shoulder, listened as Clark gathered up Talia, before stepping off towards the door.
He waited until he was standing in front of it before hitting that button on his watch once more. Listened as the locks clicked again and the traps disarmed before opening the door as quietly as he could.
His eyes barely scanned the dim room, instead going straight to the bed in the corner. Dickâs bed, since this was Dickâs room.
Dick was asleep in said bed, just like Bruce had left him. His arm was wrapped around an equally slumbering Damian, who was curled into his side like a cat, using his shoulder as a pillow. Both tucked in, both in comfortable pajama-esque clothing, both with noise-cancelling headphones tight to their ears.
And one Alfred Pennyworth sitting in a chair next to them, shotgun across his knees at the ready.
âDid I hear Clark and Diana out there already?â Alfred asked, leaning back a little in relief. Bruce nodded silently as he entered the room, shutting the door firmly behind him. âThe battle is already won?â
âPiece of cake.â Bruce mumbled walking forward. âHow are they? Has the sedative worn off at all?â
âNo, sir. Neither of them have moved an inch, and have remained entirely unaware of the battle just waged for their honor.â Alfred sniffed. Bruce cracked a smile as he passed him and stared down at that mattress. ââŚMight I say, Master Bruce, as I have so many times alreadyâŚtheyâd have been happy to fight at your side this evening.â
âNo.â Bruce answered simply. Carefully, he reached out, brushing Dickâs hair off his forehead. âI wonât let Talia or the Owls even look at them. I refuse.â
Alfred hummed thoughtfully. âDespite their defeatâŚdo you believe they will attempt this again? Together or separately?â
âWith even more numbers next time, I bet.â Bruce gently pulled the blanket up to Damianâs chin, brushed at the fingers the boy had curled up by his mouth. âBut Iâll be ready.â
âAnd let the family assist you in protecting their brothers as well.â Alfred tried. âLet the boys protect themselves.â
Bruce didnât answer right away. Just sat down on the bed, and stared at its occupants. At their peaceful, relaxed, young faces. At the ones he would gladly die for. Two of the ones who owned his heart, wholly and unconditionally. His eldest and his youngest.
He softly ran his knuckles over the hand Dick had across Damianâs shoulder, carefully stroked Damianâs arm. Glanced out the window to watch his friends drag his enemies away.
âIâll be ready.â

Thomas Wayne Jr. Headcanons
I´ve been in such a Thomas-y (and Conner-y) mood lately XD that I´ve just been thinking out very silly headcanons. Most of them apply to this happy(?) no capes AU where Thomas sir and Martha still died, but Bruce is alive and the two of them get along relatively well, and he and Dick are starting to get together. So yeah, owldick warning.
(The AU comes from these two fics: Beauty Lays behind the hills, been hoping that you´d drop by. Basically, Thomas hires an escort, and that escort turns out to be Dick).
He´s a total and utter control freak (big surprise).
He suffers from insomnia. Most nights he lays and turns and tosses around in his bed for hours remembering the night where their parents were killed and the months that followed.
He´s a pretty good actor and puts on a great façade during public Wayne E. events, but he burns out way faster than Bruce.Â
The fancy speech. Both he and Bruce grew up with a very complex and classy vocabulary thanks to their parents, then Alfred, then school and then their social circle. The Waynes talk pretty, no doubt about that, but as time has gone on, Bruce has lost that edge. Thomas hasn´t. He still isnât fond of contractions, is very appropriate in articulating his sentences even in the most informal setting and the words he uses half the time make the other person look it up in a dictionary.
He´s fancier than Bruce in some aspects, speech being in one of them. He also shares Bruce´s habit of always eating with cutlery and neatly. He doesnât mind people eating with their fingers or in a messy manner, he understands not everyone has his habits, but he´s literally unable to eat stuff like French fries, fried chicken and pizza without a fork. Not that he´s a big fan of junk food anyway. He does like nuts and popcorn though, as long as he´s able to toss them from the bags and straight into his mouth.
He doesnât really like turtlenecks. Instead, he prefers dress shirts. He tends to wear neutral colors, but over the years, the people at Wayne E. have seen him in red, bright blue, pink and even purple shirts. Yellow and green seem to be colors he absolutely avoids, for some reason. He likes to match his outfits with faux fur-lined coats.Â
He plans. Bruce executes. Mind you, this by no means implies that Bruce isn´t a master planner of his own, it just implies that Bruce is better at portraying and acting as a more approachable and understanding and communicative boss than Thomas is (which given how Bruce is at that, gives you an inkling about how⌠worse Thomas manages). He and Bruce usually schedule out the meetings together and Thomas is the one who organizes what will be said and arranges everything in order for Bruce to present it the next day. He does sit in on all the meetings, but he rarely speaks. When he does speak, it´s usually to accentuate Bruce´s points and call the employees and businessmen to order.Â
He moved out of the manor when he was twenty-two and had just finished his major in human biology. When he entered med school, he´d already purchased the penthouse he currently lives in. He has an interior designer decorate it every four or so years. Currently, the penthouse looks something like this and this.
He´s actually a licensed surgeon, albeit a non-practicing one. He got his license before his residency, and he was a resident in Gotham General hospital for a bit over two years. He got bored after that and decided to take on the business field. At thirty, he went in for a degree in business administration. He never stopped being involved in Wayne E.´s business and has always taken part in the major decisions, but he´s only started managing departments in Wayne E. for a bit over a year.
He´s a very lonely person. Up until Dick, he hadnât minded or even noticed anything. One of the reasons as to why he quickly made his way through med school and then business school was the fact that he doesnât really has nor has he had many friends to distract himself with. Or friends at all. He´s always been friendly and cordial enough for people to want to work with him and to not steer clear when he walks by, but he´s always been intimidating and too standoffish for most people´s liking. Hence, during all his life he´s had nothing to do but focus on school, his job, and maintaining bearable relationships with acquaintances.
He doesnât have a lot of hobbies apart from his job. He likes reading well enough, and every once in a while he likes to play billiard, but not enough to actually get a pool table for his home. He also likes drinking. He´s very demanding when it comes to self-control, however, he does enjoy sitting down in his couch most nights and staring out the windows to see the cityscape while enjoying wine or brandy.Â
Which brings up the next point. He deeply dislikes cocktails. He likes his liquor pure and untouched.Â
He´s never been in love until Dick, which means he has absolutely no idea on how to handle those romantic feelings. Due to being alone and detached most of his life and, until Dick, having no interest in anybody, it´s hard for him to not be intense, or impulsive. It´s hard for him not to quickly develop an attraction that then turns into something more. He has no sense of caution or self-preservation on this one aspect of his life. One he actually realizes what´s going on, he gets attached too quickly, he wants too much, he does too much. He dives in head first. It frustrates him to absolutely no end, how vulnerable he is romantically.Â
I probably have more, but these were kinda the ones I had thought most about XD

Selina Calabrese was born to Rex Calabrese and Maria Calabrese with a sister two years older than her named Magdalene Calabrese. When Selina was very young, her mother escaped from Rex, also known as The Lion, leader of the Calabrese Crime Family, and became the husband to Brian Kyle, legally changing all their names to Maria Kyle, Maggie Kyle, and Selina Kyle. Maria had a son with him, Aiden Kyle. Their relationship was not healthy, with Maria being very suicidal and Brian being drunk and abusive. He would often yell at and harm Maria and her kids, and Maria, although she loved her kids, was distant, more often spending time with her cats. One day, Selina came home from school to find her mother dead in the tub, having cut her wrists until she bled out. A year later, Brian died from alcohol poisoning, and Selina called the police, packed her bags and ran away. Maggie and Aiden were taken to the orphanage, and Aiden, being fairly young, was almost immediately adopted by a family, where his name was changed to Aiden Mason. His contact with his half-sisters was cut off, although he would eventually seek them out as an older teen and young adult. Maggie was adopted after a few months, and was raised very religiously. She kept in contact with Selina best she could.
On the streets, Selina would steal food, clothing and other material from grocery stores. She was eventually caught and put in the orphanage. She acted out a lot, causing her to be sent to Juvenile Hall. When she turned age 13, she was sent back to the orphanage. There, she realized the place was embezzling money. To make sure she never told anyone, they put her in a bag and dropped her in a river. Selina managed to escape, and then stole documentary proof of their embezzlement to give to the police, some money for herself, and her own files in hopes of reuniting with her brother or sister. Instead, she found out that Brian was not her birth father, and that her father was an unknown mobster man. Selina continued living on the streets, stealing food and jewelry to meet her own, as the money she stole would not last forever. She would be taken in by an old thief gang leader named Mama Fortuna, who treated the kids under her care like slaves. Eventually, Selina would run away with a friend from the gang named Sylvia. They could not survive on their own and always had a shortage of money, and Sylvia took up prostitution to support them both, and grew to hate Selina for it. They parted ways.
When Selina was 17, she began illegally working as a prostitute under an abusive pimp named Stan. She stumbled upon a 13-year-old Holly Robinson who was being sexually abused by a cop. Selina beat the cop up, inspiring Holly who said that was the first time anybody had shown her she could fight back. The two became roommates. To pay for living expenses and food, Selina continued stealing, and Holly eventually became an illegal prostitute too when she was 16, despite Selina being against it. Her underage status resulted in Stan getting into a fight with a drifter, who, unbeknownst to them, was Bruce Wayne in disguise. A few weeks later, Holly would wake Selina up to show her Batman, still new and fresh, beating up corrupt police officer and former Commissioner Branden. Selina, inspired by how someone can don a costume and have everyone either be happy or terrified to see him that she can do the same too, would confront and fight Stan about his abuse, officially having her and Holly quit prostitution. She spent money to buy an expensive costume- her first Catwoman costume. She robbed a local store, and one of the security guards called her âCatwomanâ, which she liked and chose to be her name. Stan, wanting revenge on Selina and Holly for quitting, kidnaps Maggie. After a few days, Selina locates him, saves her sister, and beats him to death in a rage as Catwoman. Selina informs Maggie of her new persona, who disagrees heavily, especially seeing as she killed a man, but promises to keep quiet.
The police investigate Selina and Holly, and one police officer sexually harasses Holly. Enraged, Selina went out as Catwoman with intent to kill him, but Batman intervened and made her see how her anger blinded her. Terrified she was a danger to Holly, she sent Holly to live in a convent with Maggie, who was a nun (although she would later give up her nunage to marry her husband, Simon Burton). Catwoman would begin her crime life properly, crossing paths with the likes of the Joker, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, and others, and flirting with Batman, of course. While Selina continued on to be a thief as Catwoman for the next few years, Holly felt she did not fit in the convent, and eventually found herself back on the streets. She got addicted to drugs and went back into prostitution.
While Holly was away, Selina temporarily got a new roommate, a young blonde girl nicknamed Arizona who reminded Selina a lot of Holly. She took her under her wing, and Arizona acted like her sidekick for a while, before she eventually found her own feeting and started a life on her own. She still kept close contact with Selina, though.
After five years, a gang leader named Bone killed a close friend of Selinaâs named Lola MacIntire, who knew Selina was Catwoman and let her crash at her place after her apartment was destroyed. Bone wanted revenge after Catwoman had stolen from him. This devastated Selina, who viewed it as completely her fault. At Lolaâs funeral, Selina encountered her old friend, Gwen Altamont, and the two began working together. Catwoman stole cars for Gwen, and encountered a metahuman thief named Spark while on the job. Catwoman convinces Gwen to let her work with Spark, and the two plan to rob Penguin of the fifth dagger they need to complete a set of valuable knives. Catwoman stakes out at the restaurant Penguin likes to eat at a day before he would be there, which Spark questions why they are doing so a day before. Catwoman notices a young hooker getting tranquilized and dragged into a van. Catwoman leaps into action, Spark soon following. They save the girl, and, after questioning local prostitutes, find out there have been multiple kidnappings and murders like this. Catwoman investigates and plans to defeat the kidnappers. After failing to stop a kidnapper in the act, Catwoman contacts Detective Carlos Alvarez, a detective who has been chasing her tail but that she knows is a genuinely good cop, for help. They track the kidnapper, Matilda Mathis aka Dollhouse, the daughter of Dollmaker, to a mansion. Catwoman fights Dollhouse, but Batman interrupts their fight, allowing both to escape. Catwoman questions her ability to be a vigilante, knowing sheâs a better thief.
After those series of murders to other prostitutes, Holly quits being a prostitute and heads to her and Selinaâs old apartment. She is pleasantly surprised to find Selina lived there after the destruction of her other apartment, and the two reunited. Holly began working as a spy of sorts for Catwoman, gathering information of what was happening on the streets of East End. Although she eventually stopped taking drugs after living with Selina for a few months, she felt concerned that she was still looking at the world through the eyes of a junkie to gather intel. During this time period, the Scarecrow releases a gas that makes everyone believe they are in a utopia- Gothtopia. There, Selina believed she was Catbird, partner to Batman. Where Batman could see glimpses of reality, Catbird just thought him delusional. While people who could see through the illusion questioned their sanity and committed suicide, Catbird began investigating a criminal named Steeljacket, who was also convinced their reality was an illusion. Steeljacket explained that the suit he was wearing kept him alive and he needed her thievery skills to get him the money to repair it. Catbird helped him, and the familiar adrenaline rush of a robbery made her remember her real identity of Catwoman. After Batman freed the city from Scarecrowâs toxin, Catwoman reminded him of how they shared both a partnership and a true romantic relationship in Gothtopia. Batman denied the extent of his romantic feelings, even though the toxin showed them both what they wanted to see.
A few years later, Black Mask, who held a vendetta against Catwoman, kidnapped her sister Maggie and Simon, killed Simon, and then forced Maggie to eat her husbandâs eyes, driving her insane. Black Mask also kidnapped and beat Holly with the help of an old childhood friend of Catwoman, Sylvia. Catwoman kills Black Mask, Holly kills Sylvia, and they save Maggie, who is put in a psychiatric institute. Holly isolated herself and nearly fell back onto old habits. Selina decided Holly needed time to heal outside of Gotham City and needed proper training, so she sent Holly to a rural safehouse where she trained in hand-to-hand combat with Ted Grant. Selina and Slam Bradley, a detective friend of Selinaâs, located Hollyâs long lost brother Davey, and the two reunited.
Eventually, Black Mask was revived by a Black Lantern, and immediately sought out Maggie, threatening to kill her and anyone else Catwoman cared about. Catwoman, with the help of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, defeated Black Mask again. Maggie escaped, and no longer wanted anything to do with Selina, blaming her for her insane condition and Simonâs death, and believing Selina was possessed by a cat demon. Maggie sought out Sister Agatha to exorcise her sister, but when Maggie saw Agathaâs cat, she snapped and killed Agathaâs cat and then Agatha because she believed Agatha was in league with Selinaâs cat demon. Maggie then searched through Agathaâs relics and tools, stumbling upon a supernatural substance in a container that warped Maggieâs sense of reality further. To Maggie, an angel was released and claimed it would help her destroy Selinaâs cat demon. Maggie finds Selina and Harley Quinn and attacks them with heightened abilities. Harley refers to Maggie as âSister Zeroâ, and then becomes possessed by the âangelââs influence. Catwoman manages to get through to Harley, confusing her enough to escape Maggieâs control. Selina forces Maggie to escape, who starts to formulate a new plan to save her sisterâs soul. The angel told her to team up with Azrael and Crusader during Gothamâs Judgement Day, which she does. Maggie believes she is her sisterâs test of faith, which means either Selina will get cleansed of her cat demon, or Maggie will die. But in the end, when Maggie has a chance to end Selinaâs life, she canât bring herself to do it. Maggie ends up back in a psychiatric institute and starts to slowly heal, although sometimes Sister Zero breaks out.
Holly begins a relationship with a girl named Karon, who she moves into the apartment of. She also becomes the supervisor of a group of street kids known as the Alleytown Gang, training them to act like the spies and informants of Catwomanâs network. Unbeknownst to Holly, Selina had grown tired of seeing her role as Catwoman ruin her life over and over. Selina burned her suit, but would be forced to don it again after a woman named Roulette contacted her about a competition between thieves that threatened the lives of children. Catwoman got a new suit and raced to save the lives of the children. After competing in several rounds, she realized that there never were any real children in danger. Roulette had actually been hired by a man named Hunt Stone who wanted any evidence that connected his ancestors to a famous murder stolen and erased. Selina began sabotaging every aspect of her strictly regimented and planned out days, until Roulette was forced to declare her the winner of the Race of Thieves to make her stop. During this time where Selina went missing, Holly acted as Catwoman to keep other criminals at bay.
With Catwoman I back in action, Oracle asks Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn to keep an eye on Vicki Vale, who has evidence on the members of the Batfamily that need to be destroyed. Selina notices an artifact in Vickiâs possession that she had once stolen. It reminds her of the days when Batman used to chase her, and she reminisces on them. Her flashback is interrupted as Harley breaks into the room they were monitoring, wanting to get her hyenas back because they had stolen them from her. Vicki bolts out of the room, and they lose her trail, but Selina managed to get her phone number. She planted a fake call to lead Vicki out of her apartment, allowing Selina to break in and take pictures of her Batwall, which Batman and Oracle needed. Selina reminisces about her crime life.
When a mysterious malefactor came to Gotham with a yearlong plan to ruin Batmanâs life, Catwoman began investigating into the turf war between the Penguin and newly returned mobster Carmine Falcone. She was captured by Falcone for causing him grief years ago and he nearly killed her, but Professor Pyg attacked Falcone, having a vendetta against him. Catwoman plans to kill Falcone, who she suspects might be her biological father, but before she can, Batman intervenes. She leaves Falcone and his mob to Batman, but sometime later while trying and failing to stop a deal to sell a baby snow leopard for its fur, a young girl locates Selina. She tells Selina that her father wanted her to attend a meeting in Blackgate Penitentiary. Her real father was Rex Calabrese, the crime boss from whom Falcone had taken power. Selina declined the request at first, but a street kid named Jade came to find her next, informing her the girl before her was killed by gang violence. Selina asked Rex for his guidance in becoming a mob boss herself to keep the mobsters in check from killing any other kids. The leadership of the Calabrese Family and the ownership of the Egyptian Nightclub were passed onto her as the legal heir. Catwoman, wanting to make sure Batman knew she was still on the side of good despite becoming the head of a crime family, told Batman everything she knew about the group of Arkham escapees still on the loose. After she got invited to a secret weapons sale that were actually weapons stolen from Batmanâs own supply, Catwoman began to research high bounties in Gotham, and was tipped onto Stephanie Brown. Catwoman kidnapped her without realizing she was the current Batgirl. She was rescued by Batman and the situation was resolved. Soon Batman got captured by Lincoln March, and rioting broke out across the city. Selina forced her people to help prevent the riots while also secretly making strategic thefts to further her causes. During this time, Selina gave up her Catwoman mantle to Eiko Hasigawa, a heir to the rival Hasigawa crime family, and a love interest of Selinaâs.
Eikoâs time as Catwoman was short-lived, though, as Eiko and Selina merged the Hasigawa and Calabrese families, leaving Eiko as their leader while Selina went back to her normal life⌠Sort of. She realized she was pregnant from a one-night stand with Sam Bradley Jr., and Holly Robinson took on the mantle of Catwoman at Selinaâs request. Selina made up a fake identity, Irena Dubrovna, to peacefully give birth to her daughter, legally known as Helena Dubrovna. Sam Jr. had died by the time Selina realized she was pregnant, but his father, Slam Bradley, wanted to provide for his new granddaughter. Selina could not resist the thrill of Catwoman, and donned the suit alongside Holly a few times. Unfortunately, Film Freak and Angle Man had deduced where Selina lived after catching the two Catwomen on film, and kidnapped Helena. Selina easily rescued her daughter, and then had Zatanna Zatarra mindwipe the two villains of Selinaâs identities. With Batmanâs help, she faked âIrenaâ and Helenaâs deaths, putting Helena up for adoption. She asked Zatanna to wipe her mind of knowledge about Helena so she wouldnât put her in danger again, but Zatanna refused.
After returning to her solo role as Catwoman for nearly a year, Selina allowed herself to be arrested and sent to death row at Arkham Asylum for the murders of over two hundred terrorists. It was her friend, Holly, who had really committed the crime, but she trusted Batman would prove her innocence, therefore saving her and Hollyâs lives. Nearly a year later, Helena Wayne, biological daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, from Earth Never-Two passes into Earth Never-One and gets trapped. Helena meets this worldâs Selina Kyle. The two become close, with Helena still mourning the death of her mother in her universe and Selina missing her daughter. Selina was worried that being too close to her alternate universe daughter might lead her to the same fate as her Helena Kyle, but this Helena was an experienced adult who had lived through an Apokoliptian war. She was a capable vigilante who could hold her own perhaps even better than Selina herself, and Selina felt her concerns fade away. After another year passes, Selina asks if she can adopt Helena Wayne, despite Helena being 21-years-old. Helena, surprised, agrees. Almost a year after that, Bruce proposes to Selina and she accepts, becoming his wife.
Selina Kyle is, in general, highly flirtatious, seductive, and willing to use her looks and her charms to get what she wants- in fact sheâs even proud of it. Sheâs also, much like her namesake, graceful, sly and light-footed, known as one of the greatest thieves out there. Despite her past of being an abused victim, she stands with her head high since she first donned the Catwoman suit (it can be quite enconfidating, that anonymity). She was never one to sit back and let herself or others get abused, and she sympathizes heavily with abused children, young women and sex workers especially. While her career as Catwoman started out to support herself and her friends, it eventually became an addictive adrenaline rush she couldnât give up. Even though sheâs âreformedâ, she still has sticky fingers and loves the thrill of getting away with small robberies, especially when her husband is the Batman. She enjoys getting under his skin. She isnât too big on black and white morality, instead choosing to do whatever is necessary for the situation. Sheâs not âaboveâ killing, but sheâs no homicidal murderer, and itâs never her first option, although attacking her loved ones is a sure way to push her closer to the edge. Although admittedly in her earlier days, the empowerment of being Catwoman got to her head, and she let rage cloud her judgement, leading to her being more willing to brutally harm and kill. Sheâs very willing to take risks, enjoying the danger even, and sheâs incredibly stubborn and persistent. She never had much of a villainous ego, nor does she have a superhero complex. She walks the line between the both with confidence, never worrying about being in the gray. Sometimes it ticks her off when Bruce and others think she should commit completely to one or the other, when sheâs perfectly fine where she is.
