"That's the fun part." Rook said, chuckling at the exchange, "I finally have a dad worth being around. You bet I'm going to take advantage of that."

"We quite literally don't have an alternative." Willow pointed out.

Erica nodded. They were definitely short on parents compared to siblings. Her expression shifted to a deep frown as Simon started listing the weirdest names she had ever heard. It was safe to say she much of a fan.

"I don't like Cats. It looks weird." And that was something coming from her.

"Maybe." Rook said, "Yes, Russell. I'm only into garlic bread and things that came out of an oven. I don't care to see Lucien's Arc de triomphe again."

Lucien narrowed his eyes. "When did that happen?"

"When you invited me over to play Oblivion for ten hours and suddenly forgot you had guests over when you went to get changed so we could go grab a bite."

Lucien hid behind the list as he gained a few shades of red. Rook grinned, most satisfied with the reaction.

"I'll have the one from last time– Lemon and mint chocolate with those licorice sticks. And for Erica there's the strawberry cup. What about you, Willow?"

"I'd like the same combination you're having, except with chocolate as well, if possible."

"Of course. With extra sprinkles on top?" The look Rook received confirmed the question was completely unnecessary.

"They are!" Erica said, before she turned to poke the drone. "What are you having, Simon?"

She hoped it'd be something nice. It would have been sad if he had a boring snack on top of being all the way over at his place.

"Nice pick, Leofric. That's about it, then. Do you want something too, mum?"

"I think I'll have the ghost option." Veronica replied, before hovering closer to Bill, "It's made for those of us who don't have the stomach for regular food."

"It comes in three flavors– Raspberry, lemonade and green!" Rook said.

"At worst, you can keep the little umbrella." Veronica added.

Willow nodded approvingly. "I like it when brothers cooperate." And understood their fate. The others could be kept at arm's length, but she was in everybody's pockets.

Rook made a mental note to have Willow promise not to eavesdrop too much.

"You heard that, ladies. We know where to meet up next time we're bored." Rook said, smiling at Bill, "It doesn't really matter. You're enough of a reason to show up even on a slow night."

"You've been collecting a bunch of nicknames, uh?" Erica said. She didn't get the reference, but Mistofelees sounded spooky and that was always good in her book.

"But what a mouthful." Lucien mused, "Ah, certainly. It isn't as if she has use for doors anymore."

"Don't worry, I'll text ahead of time and knock before I end up walking in on you guys or something." Rook replied, "Unless you're baking. In that case I would be interested in seeing your buns."

Lucien's horrified look was a good reward for that statement. Rook smirked, before leaning over to have a peek at the list. She'd squeeze herself in a chair once everybody was seated. Keeping the armor on might not have been the best idea.

"I guess. But I hope I can have some strawberries." Erica said, before staring mesmerized at the drone, "That's so cute!"

Willow smiled at her double's enthusiasm. "It seems you just earned yourself a loyal fan, Simon."

She placed the drone down on the table at an angle that would have allowed Simon to have a comprehensive look at the place. Once it was just right, she moved to sit down as well, letting out a quiet sigh the moment she was able to get the weight off her legs. She deserved the largest ice cream they made in this place.

"We'll get you a cool jacket and even a hat!" Erica promised, "Or maybe some headphones you can use at the gym. Those are always handy."

Lucien smiled, "It certainly does. And I might take you up on that offer. I got so used to the company I find myself unable to stand the silence of my own home."

"Yep. I'm definitely going to knock." Rook said, before catching up to her mother. "Yeah, it’s all good. Everybody here helped sending away the latest major nuisance."

"Some of us just happen to be something of a hothead." Veronica added.

"Good thing we're having something cool now. Come on." Rook gently pulled Antonio away, leaving Veronica some space to chat with the other ghosts.

Lucien sat up straight when Russell joined him, looking up briefly before giving a slight shrug. "There's a good variety. Though I might just go with a sorbet—" Lucien paused as he held the list up to his face before he set it down, "Rook, they sell profiterole here. Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I'm running out of new places to show you. Also, I suggested they added it myself." Rook grinned, "You're welcome."

It was safe to say Lucien had found something of his liking.

Okay so I know the 03 Donny Medic headcanon is super popular, but I just thought of a fun alternative to it.

Looking at 03 canon, weirdly enough, anytime we see the gang hurt that either Splinter, Leatherhead, or Casey seems to be the one moving them around and replacing cloths and what not.

Maybe after season 4 I could see Donny brushed up on his medical stuff, but before then? There seems to be an implication the adults(How old is Leatherhead in 03, cause in Mirage, based on that one Laird drawing he's a teen, and in 2012 he starts out implied young but then is trapped in Dimension X for like 40 years so is def an adult by then???) take care of them instead, which considering how 03 deals with their family and friend dynamics tracks.

Meanwhile, interestingly, Donny has not shown a lot of medical specific knowledge, only things that interact with other concepts such as him recognizing that giant bugs with stingers likely function similar to earth's common bees, wasps, and hornets. However he struggled with actually treating the giant wasp's paralytically effect's on Raph, besides a hope that it too will wear off(Yes there is actual things you can do when stung to help lessen pain and other issues, I've gone through that myself. Stepping on stingers is not a fun experience. Dipping the area in cool water for preventing swelling helps a bit. Though with the turtles being turtles idk if that'll work. I mean they where doing the cold rag over forehead treatment on unconscious Leo at the farm house so maybe???)

Of course if you can find a scene pre-season 4 that counters this, fair enough. I just can't think of any scene like that right now.

Not saying they don't exist of course.

I'm also not saying that Donny or the other boys have no medical knowledge, just not the specialized stuff that say 2012 Donnie has(One turtle will collapse from the stress of everything he's doing, but hey at least he can reanimate the dead while making retro-mutagen). Instead I imagine they can do the minor stuff anyone who's taken a first aid class might know.

So what about the adults?

What are their qualifications and experience that led them to learn what Donatello "I want to learn everything" Splinterson didn't yet?

Well for Casey Jones, we know has to have some level of medical knowledge from his own solo vigilante gig pre-meeting the turtles. If he did any actual hockey he might've picked up some stuff there.

Then there's Splinter learned under the Ancient One and clearly knows some of the healing mystical stuff him alongside the Daimyo have.

Lastly Leatherhead was obviously raised in that environment and clearly is shown over and over to have his biochem mutagen degree, we can see that even in Good Genes, though even there he struggles since he did not make Bishop's knock off ooze.

Keeping to 03 themes, rather than one of them doing everything, it's a combination of them all helping.

This also has the fun side effect of Leo during his training under the Ancient One, would likely be the first time anyone besides his dad (or brothers for the minor stuff) would be helping him patch up. After all, we saw what he was fighting while fighting his emotional demons. He would need a patch up after that.

For Leo, it sets in the loneliness being away most likely brought with it. But for the Ancient One? This is his Great Grandturtle, his poor hurt, silly, great grandturtle.

A moment of bonding, but it's painful for both them, and that's not becuase of the physical wounds.

🏥 Interview with Yim (Code Blue)

Good day! Thank you for agreeing to answer our questions. How are you feeling today?

I'm doing quite well today. It feels like life is slowing down enough that I have a bit more time and space to recharge.

Let’s begin!

1. Could you tell us how you came up with the idea to write a story in the medical genre? Why did you choose to set the plot specifically in an emergency department?

I pitched several ideas for stories that didn't move forward, and I was encouraged to work on a medical story focusing on an EMS team. I proposed emergency medicine as an alternative because the scope of the medicine practiced there can be shallow or broad: it offers a lot of flexibility for writing. Patients often come and go from the department quickly, and their cases can be simple or very complicated, humorous or heartbreaking. The structure of work in the emergency department also seems well suited to work for a Romance Club story.

2. What inspired the storyline? Were there any particular films, series, or books that influenced you?

The storyline is the product of sitting with the subject matter for a while and considering what would be interesting and well-suited for an RC story. For inspiration, I primarily turned to television series, documentaries, and doctors’ memoirs, and also to the city of Seattle itself, where I lived for many years. I wanted to achieve a balance between the medical and romance aspects while keeping the visuals interesting. In terms of particular films, series, and books, as unlikely a pairing as it is, I think this story falls somewhere between Scrubs (which I enjoyed watching as a teenager) and The Pitt. Adam Kay's This is Going to Hurt and numerous other sources have influenced me.

3. Why did you choose this specific title for the story? Were there any alternative options?

For this story, I proposed the title "Vitals," which I liked because it applied to more than just the medical aspect, but it was decided that it was not interesting enough, so it was given the title that it has now.

4. How much time did it take you to develop the plot?

The very basic premise and plot were developed over the course of a month. There are many minor plotlines that will develop organically over the course of the story to support the higher-level plot, though.

5. Is it possible to combine two stat paths in the story, or is it better to focus on just one?

No, it's best to focus on just one.

7. Let’s talk about the characters! What made you decide to give players the option to choose the protagonist’s gender?

I was offered the opportunity to do so, and I jumped on it, much like including diverse body types in Hell and High Water. I think it fits very well with a story like this, where it's an aspirational story (many people are curious about what it would be like to be a doctor) and the story's plotline is not heavily influenced by the choice of gender (while sexism certainly affects modern medicine in Seattle, it has much less of an impact than it might on a historical drama about a monarch, for example).

8. How challenging is it to write branching storylines from both male and female perspectives? Do you find it difficult or rather easy?

It's somewhat challenging and rather fun. As a non-binary person, I "played" the female perspective (poorly and miserably) for more than 20 years and often wondered what it would be like to "play" the male perspective, though that didn't suit me either. So, it's certainly something I've spent a lot of time thinking about and talking to people about. And there isn't any one way to be male or female in terms of how one experiences the world, but I hope to write something that is relatable to many people.

9. What key qualities do your main characters possess as professionals in the medical field?

I think that dedication is a vital quality that they all possess, even if they show it in different ways. Medicine is a very difficult field in the USA, even for those who have ample opportunity, and it is an enormous commitment. Along with this, they possess patience in all areas: with themselves, others, situations, and systems. Not all of the characters are equally patient, but they are all probably more patient on average than most people. Also, the ability to work well under pressure and focus.

10. How did you choose their names? Why did you settle on the ones featured in the story?

This is a good opportunity to talk about Tobias and Trinh's names. I've seen a lot of comments about these in particular because these names also appear in Open Heart, which I enjoyed playing the first season and a half or so of many, many years ago.

When I originally designed Tobias, he had a distinctive nose. I thought it gave him some more personality, but it was determined that this wasn't conventionally attractive enough, and it was ultimately changed. However, when I was young, one of my favorite characters was Tobias from Animorphs, whose form is a hawk. I have always had a soft spot for the name, and when I learned it suited Tobias's origins, I decided to call him that. I felt that he was a hawk-like character, keeping an eye on the department and having his distinctive nose.

Trinh is a very common last name in Seattle. I actually chose the name because I had a wonderful doctor with that surname, and it seemed like a nice way to honor them, though the nurse in the story and the actual doctor have nothing else in common.

In general, though, the names mostly depend on the character's origin. In some cases, they are names the characters chose for themselves

11. What was most important to you when visualizing the appearance of the main characters? Did they turn out the way you had envisioned?

For me, the most important thing about a character's visual design is that it reinforces their life experience and personality. (Sometimes, this means that they don't look anything like one would expect, because people have a way of surprising us). I have learned that my idea of what is attractive doesn't match with what most people want, so for the LIs, I try to adhere to conventions for the most part, or what is seen as conventionally attractive for a given archetype. I'm very glad that Flint and Kenedi seem to be well received, because these are characters where there was less pressure to make them look a specific way and I was able to invest more in their designs (though I obviously made them very conventionally attractive within their own domains due to the extensive negative feedback I received on HHW's character designs). And with Jules, I'm also very glad that the many variations are being positively received. I was going for a very specific look with them, which will probably make more sense as the story progresses.

Given the circumstances, I'm very happy with how the characters turned out.

12. How long did it take you to create their character briefs? How old are they?

I could not easily tell you how long it took to create the briefs because it's spread out throughout the creation process. When the story is first pitched, the main cast starts to take form and their design starts, but it's not until after outlining and, in some cases, writing begins that they are fully developed and ready to be brought to life by the artists.

13. Will players have the chance to change the characters’ uniforms again, or will the current ones remain as final?

There will be more work clothing options as the story progresses (and some seasonal accessories), but these won't be very common.

14. We’re curious to know more about the romance options in your story! How many love interests are planned?

There are 6 full romantic routes planned. There will also be some romantic interactions with other characters, such as Gutierrez, Malinowski, and characters we haven't met yet. I have already seen many comments on Gutierrez and Malinowski, and they are intended to be developed further, but they are not "main" LIs.

15. If you could describe each love interest in one word, what would it be?

I would describe all of them as "complicated."

16. Why did you choose marine creatures as pets in the story? Would you like to have one of them yourself? Or maybe you already do?

I had a pet fish, Ruvi, who was very near and dear to my heart. I've kept a few bettas over the years, so I wanted to include one. And I hope that I might keep another in the future. This happens in the story is mostly because Annette doesn't really see fish as much different from plants, which unfortunately seems to be a pretty common view. To her, they're more of an aesthetic element. Jules definitely doesn't have the motivation to care for anything demanding at this point, and I didn't want to leave players with something like a cat or dog that would suffer much more while Jules is working hard.

17. Does your workspace mean a lot to you? What items are a must-have there? We'd love to see a photo!

My workspace is incredibly important to me, but right now it is very much a work in progress, so I won't be sharing it right now. My absolute must-haves are an ergonomic keyboard and active sitting chair.

18. Do you have any rituals before you start working (if any)? Maybe you need to grab a cup of coffee or spend a few minutes in silence?

Yes! I almost always start by grinding some beans and making a cup of coffee in my French press, and I usually finish my coffee before I actually start working. Often, I'll also play focus music while I'm working: it's usually just white noise pomodoros.

19. What lessons did you take away from your previous story, “Through Storm and Fire”?

I think if I wrote them all out, it would be a few thousand words, so I'll simplify my answer: I learned a lot about the expectations of players, what works well on the platform, what I can control and what I can't, and what resonates with who and what doesn't.

20. Describe your new story in one quote or phrase (maybe from a famous person?).

I think Hippocrates has a very relevant quote for this story:

"Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity."

top tip for new gif people because i've seen a few recently (which is really cool) - tumblr will compress your gif to a width of 540px when you upload it. this compression won't retain as much quality as if you just resize it to 540px across in photoshop/whatever program you use. tumblr will suck the life out of your beautiful crisp 1080px gif whereas photoshop will do its best not to (resizing in vapoursynth or similar is ideal but that's not necessary and often too much effort for adults with real lives)

Since we're on the topic of power upgrades, have you thought of any for the other heroes like Viperion, Bunnix, or Polymouse?

I get that "Multiply" splits the user into multiple users, but it does confuse me that it also kinda divides the user into smaller parts. So the obvious alternate is "Multiplicand", (the multiplicand is the number to which another number is multiplied and whose value is observed to increase.) Here comes Kaiju-Mouse! A Giantess!!

Bunnix was hard because Time Travel is already OP as hell. She essentially has Lady Wifi's powers (and I guess Backwarder's) but only on living creatures and without the video sharing feature. It's hard to "show" in just this one still frame so I hope you get what I'm getting at.

Despite being time based, Viperion didn't give me the same struggles as Bunnix. I deliberately made the time limit that "Serpentime" is usable for for balance, and I think it would take a good strategist to use it properly - yeah, you can freeze time and just yoink the Akuma Object off the enemy, but opps! You don't have time to do that AND stop that bus from hitting that building! Gotta be selective!

I know you didn't ask for her, but I'll throw in Ryūko for fun. The only upgrade I could reasonably think of was MORE! ELEMENTS!!! Kinda wild that Fire wasn't already an element for the freaking DRAGON, but maybe fire is hard for this show to animate.

At long last: either an alternate explanation for or continuation of my prior comic regarding how Bill was ABSOLUTELY naked in Ford's karaoke night drawing. (Because errors in art do not exist. Artists do not make mistakes. So if you see any in this comic, No You Do Not.)

I'm not really clear on exactly when Bill started throwing his desperation book at Ford just like a needy ex do, but I find it extremely funny to imagine it happening literally the day of or after the makeshift funeral. Bill just gets this weird sense of 'Ford is taking steps to move on' and CANNOT FUCKING ABIDE.

I hope you enjoy all the goofy things I added to each page of Bill's sad spieling.
