the snape and lily friendship being written like every toxic intense homoerotic lesbian situationship in middle and high school will never not be funny. intense “we’ll be friends forever and ever you’re all i have we’re soulmates” until they find a friend group and do something shitty to fit in and then you act shitty back but it’s apparently a federal crime when you do it and then it all bursts into flames and you think death is imminent for like. three years. and then in your twenties you wake up one morning and go “oh THATS what that was”. and it haunts you for at least a decade after it ends

People try to put down Jily because James was horrid to Sev and yes I agree.. but imagine being Lily.. your best friend betrays you for your oppressors who hate your very existence, your sister too hates you for your very existence and you seem to have no place where you are fully accepted. And then there's this dude who has always been an immature ass.. but who stands by you like a rock against those discriminating assholes.. this guy you've always hated is the one guarding your back as you guard his on the battlefield where you're outnumbered 20 to 1... this guy who could have carried on his shitty bullying habits into the future, but instead chose to fight against the monsters who want to eradicate you when your own best friend left you for them... this guy who loves every bit of you from the magic to the non-magic and to your very bones he worships the hell out of you... he will die for you and he does.
I don't know man, but that level of character development is an understandable reason to marry a dude ❤

Sometimes I feel like I'm the most chill person in this fandom when it comes to ships and characters. Like I can find reasons as to why each ship would work and wouldn't.
Pandalily? Academic rivals FOR SURE.
Jegulus? HELLO??? Bestfriends brother? Grumpy x Sunshine?
Partyvan? Peter deserves ALL that love.
Marylene? Not friends, not lovers, but something. It's so heartbreakingly cute.
I can even find stuff for ships I don't even ship.
Jeverus? After he saves his life? Hell yeah!
Dramoine? ENEMIES TO LOVERS! REDEMPTION ARCS!
Prongsfoot? Best friends to lover? Sure, man, go for it!
Regulus x Sirius?.......... You... You do you bro???
Snily? That "always" line was cute, I gotta admit.
I genuinely won't judge like if you ship them - if you see them working out; GO. FOR. IT. THEYRE FICTIONAL!! Have your own opinions, it's okay!
AND THE CHARACTERS!!!
Yes, they all have their flaws. Yes, James bullied Severus. Yes, James repeatedly asked Lily even though she'd already turned her down. Yes, he changed!!
Yes, Severus called the love of his life a slur. Yes, he bullied children. Yes he cared for Harry to some extent! Even if it's only as a tribute to Lily, that's better than nothing.
Yes, Dumblewh*re raise Harry for slaughter.... That's it... I have nothing more to add for him.... Bitch.
Yes, Regulus is a death eater. Yes, Regulus was obsessed with the dark lord since childhood. Yes, he stole the horcrux!!
Sorry for the rant but like I'm seeing so much hate for so many characters and ships and I don't understand it. There's as much to love as there is to hate. It wouldn't be fair if they were perfect flawless characters. They're designed to be insufferable and loving and idiotic and a little crazy.

I like to think that even though they weren't friends and didn't hang out, Severus and Lily still cared about each other, but couldn't outwardly show it. Severus himself knew he was a threat to Lily, and Lily knew that while Severus wouldn't ever hurt her, his friends might, and they might even hurt him if he was friends with her. And although they could never ever be real friends, not with them walking enemy paths, they still loved each other.
Lily, when she finally got with James (who eventually did charm her, as he always did, and who realised he had to make some changes for someone he loved), the first thing she told him was please, just leave Severus alone. Leave Severus alone, I've had enough. James promised he would. It's not her fault James lied to her. (the only lie he told her mind you, for all his faults he at least did love her and did treat her well. Pity that love didn't win over his hate for Severus).
Severus did his best to protect Lily. Kept making excuses to his friends, found ways to keep her at least from being harmed as best as he could.
Lily would sometimes see Severus alone in the library, just there. She knew he was miserable, but she also knew he was part of a world she could not enter and she by principle would not even speak to someone from that group. Yet she also couldn't bear to see him so alone. So she would send a house elf to go give him some food, give him a warm drink, make sure he's had something in his stomach, knowing he doesn't eat like he should.
Severus would sometimes see Lily practicing magic alone. She was trying desperately to get stronger, so that she wouldn't be dependent on James for protection, so that she could protect them both. Severus wanted to help, but he didn't dare speak to her. So it just so happened a spell or two of his, written on a piece of paper, just fluttered to her. Nothing offensive, just defense, but good defense.
Lily would sometimes notice that Severus was sick, and she knew he would never go to Madam Pomfrey and tell her he needed medicine. Nor would he ever actually make himself a potion- he never would do anything for himself, and it wasn't as easy for him to access Slughorn's stuff. Lily, then, would go in, make him a medicinal potion all while muttering about "stupid stubborn boys" and leave it where she knew Severus would find it.
Severus would see Lily sometimes struggling in the library with revision for a test, and sometimes she'd just fall asleep trying to revise. So he'd sneak in, carefully adjust her and give her a blanket. And "accidentally" leave his own revision notes for her.
Lily would realise Severus wasn't in class, and she'd look to see if his friends weren't there too or was it just him. If it was just him, she'd subtly look for him. Just to make sure he was alive at least. Sometimes she'd find him asleep in hidden alcoves, or in the courtyard under a bunch. So she'd sneak over and sneak him somewhere safer to sleep, and leave him a blanket.
Severus knows Lily forgets to eat during test weeks, so she just happens to find fruit around her when not in her dorm.
Lily knows Severus doesn't drink enough water, so he finds glasses of water just appear when he's on his own.
Just small things they did for each other because they did love each other, they really truly did. It was unfortunate fate pitted them against one another.

snily will forever be the most interesting platonic relationship to me.
the idea of severus growing up in an abusive home, feeling as though his mother is just standing by because he's too young to understand the abuse for what it is, not feeling as though he's worth love or protection. lily, growing up different from her family. a "freak" who doesn't fit in with them and who hasn't felt loved the same since her first burst of accidental magic.
snily meeting each other in cokeworth as young children and instantly connecting - severus showing lily that she's not a freak, that there are others like her and giving her a hand into this world, whilst lily shows severus that whilst his dad is bad, not all muggles are. they show each other that kindness does exist in their alternate worlds, you just have to find it.
then they go to hogwarts, and they're so sure that they'll end up together, that they'll both be placed in the same house or, even if they're not, their friendship will persist.
only to be placed into opposing houses.
severus, a child who's never had a sense of belonging besides lily, is placed into the house that hates hers, into a house that becomes flooding with anti-muggle rhetoric and he's been told that he belongs here. he's told that he belongs and all he's ever wanted is to belong, so he changes. consciously or not, he morphs himself to fit him.
lily who joins a house that has anti-slytherin rhetoric, watching as severus makes friends with the wrong crowd, lily hanging out with gryffindors that resent the slytherins but sticking by severus anyway. because she knows him, right? she knows that no matter what they say about his house, she knows him.
until she doesn't anymore. she lets his actions slide for years, lets herself pretend that the boy she met in cokeworth all those years ago is still in there somewhere and that they'll be able to pull through - until SWM.
and then it's two people who showed each other that they belonged, and that kindness existed and it's just gone. he joins the alliance that is actively working against her.
and then it's severus bringing the prophecy to the dark lord - another place he feels as though he belongs and can be worthy of something more than darks rooms and empty bottles in a small house - and not knowing who it's about, only for everything that those two have been through to come flooding back at the last minute when it's too late.
and he just has to persist. he has to persist knowing that he played a part in her death, and that his deflection doesn't change that. maybe, if lily were alive, his position in the war wouldn't have been the only thing to deflect, but his person too - maybe he could have reverted back to that kind boy in the park if she were still here, but what's the point? what's the point of redemption if the one person whose opinion actually mattered to you is gone? so he doesn't change. he has no reason to, not really.
and then he teaches her son and has to cope with the fact that he's the spitting image of james, besides the eyes. and he has to look into these eyes every single day - and he's expected to protect them. he's looking into eyes that he failed to protect once, and it's torture to know that once again, he has a change to redeem himself, yet she'd never know.
and isn't that so tragic?
that he manages to protect harry for years and give him the final pieces of the puzzle, yet lily never knows, and it doesn't feel complete. it doesn't feel like redemption to save a part of her rather than all of her.

Friendship should mean something
I would hope that if I was being raped or otherwise assaulted, my friend would not stand by and argue with my attacker. But call the police and claw their eyes or shoot him dead. I hope they would not leave me to my attacker's sadistic pleasure if I somehow hurt their feelings in the situation. I would hope my safety would matter to them even if we had already broken up and they would help me because of the friendship we once had.

alright, unpopular opinion time, even though no one asked for it. this is defenitely getting me a lot of hate.
jily sucks. i generally do not understand why the hell did lily randomly date james in their 7th year when her and severus split apart. she did it to annoy severus or what, i don't know. she calls james an arrogant toerag, then she randomly goes and date that toerag for what? did she just... like him right after the mudblood incident?
snily made more sense. ok, that's going to get me a lot of hate, but i don't care. to me, snily had more chemistry than jily. severus and lily were childhood friends, and defenitely made more sense and had more chemistry than jily, which is just very random romance.
wolfstar sucks. that's gonna get me even more hate from the wolfstar stans ngl. remus does not find sirius attractive, nor does sirius find remus attractive. sirius was closer to james, and is most likely to develope a crush for james instead. not to mention sirius almost made his best friend, who's in his werewolf form, commit murder.

I never will get over how fundamentally stupid Snape was, dude really became the wizard equivalent of a Nazi and then complained that Jewish crush wouldn't date him.

oof we're the same, in my head remus is the only person in the hp world with the amount of patience and predisposition to understand severus because he was willing to trust him and was adult enough to REALLY have that kind of "let bygones be bygones" sort of mentality. he was calmly defending snape from HARRY of all people. i really don't see severus with anyone else unless people make up an oc especially designed for him, lol. i'm a snily and snupin solo shipper 😣
YES YOU GET ME !!!
remus is the only person who would understand him in my mind !! they have such similar backgrounds and personalities and experiences and he has the patience to unpick it all !! and he has the chance to in POA era !!
THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME !!! he defended him to HARRY. (see here: poa era remus convincing snape to see the lily in harry, not just the james, and eventually harry himself - BOOM! severitus)
you get me. you GET me.

my tears ricochet is sooo snily coded, but only from sev's perspective
i don't think lily was angry enough at snape to be the narrator, she probably didn't even know severus was the one who delivered the prophecy to voldemort and switched sides because of her.
but snape on the other hand, snape has a huge guilt complex. and he is blaming himself for her death. so if he ever heard mtr he would definitely feel like he's the one who's being addressed, and this is what lily would say to him if she ever got a chance. this song would destroy him. he would listen to it when he felt like giving up, as a reminder that he does not deserve anything good in his life, because he ruined the only good thing he had.
