I have a theory that Allan wishes to have a relationship with Charlie like Charlie’s relationship with pim but every time he tries to work on it he ends up messing it up and slowly starts to recognize that it will never happen and so he just starts drifting away from Charlie because he’s scared of making him uncomfortable again.

I’m definitely going to get uninvited to some challan themed birthday parties with this one.

The Brittany Theory

A little theory idea I wanted to share that's been on my mind lately: This has to do with the introduction of Brittany in season 2 and it would appear this came out of nowhere, but I have a hunch that it didn't.

In season ones episode Charlie dies and doesn't come back, Charlie is rescued from hell by god (having them voiced by Gilbert Godfrey btw was great lol) then sent back to earth. The devil is foiled and we move on to Charlie never speaking about it again. This episode was after frowning friends where Grim and gnarly were introduced, attempting to ruin Smiling Friends but ultimately failing. My overanalyzing brain thought about a possible connection of the two episodes, mainly the part where the devil says 'foiled again!'.

Since he's the devil it could be that a deal he made was ruined....or it could be that frowning friends was his doing, so he could destroy smiling friends to make the world a more miserable place. We never really see who the boss is for frowning friends so I could argue that the devil is the one pulling the strings.

But what if he wasn't? What if Brittany had been sent to earth earlier and was the boss behind the scenes of frowning friends? She's definitely powerful enough to control people's minds to do her bidding, so it's possible Grim and gnarly could have worked under her. We come back to the season 2 episode where Mr. Boss gets married to satan's daughter, whose plan is to drain Mr. Boss of his life source and take his kingdom, which is smiling friends. There's a clear lack of information as to how they met, so in my mind the easiest solution is through a dating app. She would have made her move after frowning friends so there could be no way to track her back to the company, leaving her as just someone "looking for love" on the app.

I also want to point out Charlie's hesitation in the episode when he's all ready to kill Brittany, but he tells Pim to do it. This could be because the devil knows Charlie and has a beef with him, so if he killed Brittany things could become very bad for the people Charlie cares about (aka every one of the smiling friends.)

So in summary my theory is that Satan sent Brittany to earth in season one as the unmentioned boss of frowning friends, in order to destroy smiling friends. When that failed she began courting Mr. Boss through a dating app posing as a "regular person looking for love" and wasn't suspected, because this universe is full of oddities that everyone just accepts. She got married to the boss, attempted to take over his life force and kingdom, then failed.

Now I'm going to say sm extremely cringe about smiling friend and y'all have to promise not to beat me with baseball bats but I honestly have the teeny weeny itty bitty headcanon/theory/fcked brainrot thought about Charlie being a closeted gay man in deep denial

Meanwhile as of seasons 1~2 this dude has YET to show attraction to another female character despite openly doing it with dudes. The only two examples of it being with the Mustard coming onto him (which he bluntly rejects) and his girlfriend (she is irrelevant and he has never shown any form of affection towards her)

Regarding his girlfriend (apparently her name is Zoey at least according to some of the credits this is never mentioned in show) specifically- She just exists to be Charlie's girlfriend. She isnt even acknowledged by any of the cast. Theres a tickle in me bones that tells me this gal is just his beard

EXHIBIT B:

Charlie having a shit ton of internalized homophobia he's covering his ass for just legit makes a lot of sense for his character

Being both christian (this is a lot more present in S2) and his obvious insecurities with his masculinity.

Shit like him unironically using terms like "alpha male" and having to verbally compensate for not being what he thinks an "alpha male" is

^ Making excuses for why he didnt fight a dude 5x his size and strength, or him laughing at people getting scared but when he gets scared he gets defensive and pissed off

With that said I'm not trying theorize this as if it's a serious dramatic thing. Smiling Friends is the most unserious show ever. More like the subtext gives a bit more depth to Charlie's character. And it makes his actions an extra layer of comedically pathetic. Like dude acts like he knows the chicks meanwhile he kisses his male coworkers casually and has never kissed his supposed girlfriend he probably forgets exist sometimes

I headcanon them to be husbands. Because whenever they are on screen they are always on screen together. And i feel like the gray critter always shows up to cheer his husband on in his work for moral support.

Bro was probably thinking in this moment “wtf that’s a demon. Why is my husband being the priest for this wedding when the bride is a demon…he’s a man of god bro is supposed to hate demons tf…” Bro prob waited for him in the car and went “hun what the fuck that was a demon. You’re supposed to cleanse demons.”

And the fact that the gray critter returned the same time the priest did implies that the critter has no connection with Charlie's life at all and maybe just likes to attend all the events the priest goes to. Because he loves him and wants to make sure that the priest is comfortable at work knowing that his husband is there in case anything happens.

I rest my case.

Cartoon theory that I have basically no concrete proof for, but also there's not anything specifically DISPROVING it and it's funny so I'm keeping it:

The shows Smiling friends, Chowder, and Amazing world of Gumball all take place in the same universe, in different parts of the same crazy, unhinged world.

Ok ok hear me out, I have reasoning for this.

1. Crazy assortment of creatures inhabiting them: all of these shows have worlds populated by a random mix of anthropomorphic animals, plants, inanimate objects, and unspecified "brightly colored humanoid monster/creature" type species. Smiling friends does have SOME normal humans thrown into the mix, but there's not that many of them since they're not the only sapient species, so one can assume that there would be entire towns or even nations with no humans at all.

2. Humor-based laws of physics. In all of these worlds, pretty much anything can happen as long as it's done in a funny way or as part of a joke. Also, every character pretty much has reality bending abilities and can manipulate the environment in crazy ways as long as it's part of some joke, like how gumball shape shifts and gets random powers for one joke (or his dad nearly destroying reality as part of a joke about him being stupid), how the characters in Chowder break the fourth wall all the time and manipulate the backgrounds and stuff, and how characters in smiling friends will sometimes shrug off a massive injury or will have a realistic reaction to it, depending on what would be funny for the scene. In all three, there's no concrete rule for how reality works at any given time except "it has to be funny".

3. We've seen from the Spamtopia episode that there's different countries/nations/areas that have completely different overall art styles to the main areas in the show. So Elmore, and especially Marzipan city (which has a more different art style than the other two) could just be two examples of such areas.

Again, this is just a goofy take, but I think a Ridiculous Show Multiverse is a hilarious and interesting concept. Do what you will with it.
