I do not think I will ever run out of things to talk about regarding the traumatic shit the Eastern Caverns had to go through. And how every character had to that on top of 2 of your greatest enemies aren't to blame and are victims too.

Like, Junjie's the obvious and I will milk the angst for all its worth. Literally, I have a fanfic where I just stack his truama like pancakes. (Why did I say pancakes? Why not something back-crushing, like coal?)

And I know he didn't really have friends but he had to KNOW people. Ones who were killed, kids he knew who grew up in fear of him...

And Lian--my poor girl. We do not even know WHEN she was turned into the Lady Dai-Fu. And we don't know if when she was herself people were against her like Junjie at first (of course, even he didn't recognize her with the mask soo...)

Then we have Swick. He couldn't have been that old when the Emperor took over, as he doesn't seem older than early 20s. Same with most of Hamengku's rebels and even some of the underlords--they never knew a world without the Emperor, never knew Junjie and Lian as a good person, or safety.

And Dru obviously has ptsd after losing her dad and probably a whole lot of other issues she never talks about. And she has to deal with the fact her dad will never get justice because the dark slinger is Junjie and its not his fault...but it is his face that haunts her nightmares

And Hamengku--he had two friends turn against him, see his other friends most likely killed, and just had to deal with that. And then Junjie comes back, not remebering him, the man who fought beside him. And he has to deal with all this anger he's carried, the betrayel, and realize that Lian and Junjie were victims too.

And the Slugs. Dlugs like Joo-Joo, who were gooned for 20 years!

The Goon's Importance

The Goon was once the Eastern Guardian Boon Doc that helped keep the Emperor sealed away. It was ghouled from deep within its core after the Emperor broke out. It is likely unable to be cured as we saw in 'Return of the Elementals'. It used Junjie, Eli, Will and Dr Blakk as hosts, claiming Junjie, Eli and Will as its Dark Slingers at points. It can read the minds of its host.

Why bring up the Goon's known story? Well, what the Goon says is merely what its host believes. The Goon had asked Eli about his father, which Eli is quick to question how the Goon knows and if it knows where his father is. The Goon does not know, and would not know till after 'Ghoul from Beyond'. Eli wants to believe his dad is still out there, alive, which the Goon uses to manipulate Eli into believing he knows more than what he leads on.

Then there's the claim of Eli and Burpy being the 99 Caverns' protector. It was the knowledge from Junjie's own linage/history. In the Eastern Caverns, the Infurnus is a symbol of protection as Yang was Joo-Joo's original slinger (presumed). Each of Yang's descendants all inherited Joo-Joo as their right of passage to become the new protector. However for the 99 Caverns, Burpy appeared to be a wandering slug, being used by anyone who managed to catch and sling him. This explains how Dr Blakk had Burpy to begin with. Will won Burpy over from Blakk and Burpy became loyal to Will. Burpy was Will's best slug and what he considered his partner through everything. Burpy became Eli's slug due to Will requesting Burpy find Eli and give him his letter.

The 99 Caverns Infurnus was not a symbol of the Shane until Will and Eli had been known to use Burpy. The Goon assumed they were as that was the tradition within the Eastern Caverns.

I love the Goon's entire creation and love thinking about how much it could do with using your memories as fuel (basis for the Souldews and their ghouled form; the Souldrains? Yes. Yes it was.)

Hi Slugterra fandom.

Hi. While I would've preferred to start my first post with some art my stinky brain doesn't know what to start drawing yet. So due to @a-sad-mage saying to go for it I shall be starting with an ask series and some oc introductions (to give more room for questions). Which you can address to them, I've been also inspired by @slugterra-twisted-ends character ask series.

Aiden: A mercenary, wants to make a quick buck, and will most likely do anything to do so. Especially if it's a big pay day.

Morgana: Strong, grumpy woman. Gets angry easily and most of the time will punch someone over it.

Chénxuán: When in the war against the emperor he suddenly was thrown through a massive timezone, only being spat back out in the 99 caverns and in modern day.

And the stunters: Old, who you can ask questions to:

Minotaur (not actual name and not the slug it out character): The cold, somewhat aggressive leader of the racing gang. Often wins or gets a good place in the slug run, but doesn't always play fair...

Drag: Hot headed narcissist. Usually cheats in games but not really racing, since he respects the Slugrun.

Wilder: He's a bit insane but surprisingly a good mechanic. Mainly uses grenukers because 'Explosives are allways necessary.' Seemingly has mauled someone before.

Brandon: He's a bit paranoid but can be a good slinger, mostly... He's the only one dating someone in the group. As well as the only one who uses his real name.

End: Seemingly, the only most sane in the group, besides Minotaur. But that can often be overlooked by his strange calm preparation he has when he talks about death, which he does quite a bit. Always wears a helmet all the time and is tired all the time.

New stunters: Now it's more so a gang than a racer group.

Minotaur is now more tired but still intimidating and aggressive none the less, except with one of the members...

Drag is less loud now and also less narcissistic, but still wants to 'hit it big' a lot of the time.

Moulton (code name): 'Hot head, dumb, mussels of the group' is what Drag describes him as. Which is pretty true... But while he may not be the brightest, he's still a pretty powerful slinger who mainly uses fire slugs.

Slasher (code name): Partners with Moulton, who he grew up with. He's a bit of a narcissist as well, acting like he's smarter than all the others, except Minotaur and not as much Moulton, all the time.

Finally W.B.: W.B. is the initials of his first and middle name. He's the youngest (with only Minotaur knowing W.B.'s actual age), most naive and paranoid of the group. When he was younger, his biological dad and his other dad (who's married to his biological dad) jobs were 'too dangerous' so unfortunately he was left by his other dad with Minotaur to 'take care of him' When he was five.

SlugTerra Au Explanation! (Kinda told in a story way-)

Alright- so Here’s the explaining about The Au, kinda going more into it, And what changes and stuff, but only for the present stuff, basically this Au is a slightly more peaceful slugterra, the 99 caverns since…yknow- no ghouls? Expect for the ones in the eastern cavern cuz yknow- Emperor taking over and stuff…(I’m still developing this Au a bit! So still figuring things out I guess-)

So, now here’s The Info part! ( this is gonna be a little long-)

So, While being trained by unbeatable master, after a duel, taking a break, Thaddius is slightly injured, on his hand and Will happens to notice, a small little argument that was started by Thaddius pursues, with Thaddius claiming he was fine and didn’t need a Shane’s help, though after a display of genuine worry and concern by Will, it makes Thaddius suprised, as he’s used to no one caring about him and looking after himself.

He finally allows Will to help him, even if he’s slightly annoyed.

After this, a small conversation starts with them, and Will offers if he wants to be friends, Thaddius is hesitant, and confused, as he’s never had a friend before, but then decides to accept.

Their friendship-

After some time in training, Will discovers that Thaddius is mostly alone, having no place to stay, since he usually just figures something out, Will suggests that he could stay with him back at the Shane hideout, wanting to offer him shelter, but also thinking it would be good to have company, Thaddius thinks it’s pointless, since he can manage by himself and dosen’t need it, but will insists, and after enough nagging, Thaddius finally accepts. He seems like he doesn’t care, but once he sees Will smile and immediately lead him by grabbing his hand, He sneaks a smile, but hides it before Will noticed.

(He dosen’t like showing smiles, he feels weird about it-)

Meeting jimmo shane-

Of course it does not go well, once at the hideout, and some time passing with Will introducing a Video game to thadidus, and what it is, jimmo walks in, Will takes this moment to introduce the two, Unaware of how they previously met, jimmo and Thaddius do not get along, especially thaddius, still having that anger for being locked away for 6 months, while jimmo just thinks he’s still a criminal- bad guy yknow? Thaddius TRIES To get along with jimmo, just for Will’s sake so despite the tense tension, after a while of staying with him, Thaddius feels like he has a home kinda, for once he doesn’t feel alone, because he has someone, someone who cares about him.

So bassicly Thaddius learns to have fun, he grows accustomed to this, and actually learns to smile naturally, he’s still bit of a grumpy tough dude, but he’s more caring- And kinda gets worried when Will gets injured or anything, since wills like the only person he’s got-

Selection:

When will is picked, instead of it going like how cannon went, Thaddius feels worried of not seeing Will in a while, but with some reassurance from Will, he calms down, and feels a bit proud of him, they say goodbye as Will walks up the stairs, while Thaddius heads off, but not to slag rock cavern, not to viggo dare, to what he calls home, The home where he will wait for Will.

When will finishes his training, they reunite again. And they share a good hug, they were not enemies or rivals anymore, Thaddius was fine with that, and Will was happy with that, they share a friendly duel, just for old times sake.

(WOO OK- that’s out the way- so here’s some things about the Au!)

Will dosen’t call Dr.Blakk that, he just calls him Thaddius- as dr.Blakk dosen’t like it when he uses the new title of name, since he sees Will a good friend-

Tad does not exist in this Au-yeah so Thaddius was just focused on his projects and work that he didn’t have time to yknow, fall in love, get children, he didn’t really have interest in that-

Twist is not evil in this Au! When the incident happens where his dad dies, Will Is unsure of what to do, and he lets dr.Blakk take care of him, after a bit, dr.Blakk gives him off to a lovely couple who are happy to take care of twist, so twist bassicly found a family to take care of him- (so in the future he dosen’t hate the Shane’s- still kinda nervous due to yknow the incident that happened with his father-)

Of course Dr.Blakk dosen’t ghoul slugs in this Au- he just tries to make them stronger in other way’s, yknow increase their strengths, while working on other things- (so using his power for good-) (he still kinda dosen’t really care about slugs, but he’s less heartless this time thanks to Will)

Dr.Blakk found burpy, and gave him to will- (Dr.Blakk and burpy still got a bit of beef with eachother…yeah-)

Dr.Blakk sort of knew Eli when he was little, Will told him about the secret of the Surface and as promised, dr.Blakk kept secret of it- so eli treats Dr.Blakk like family while Dr.Blakk deals with him like an annoyed tired dad-

Dr.Blakk was the one who trained Eli once he arrived in slugterra, so yeah he got good training- and is more prepared than he was in the show- (still a clumsy doofus-)

I finally figured out the timeline for Xia Li and Hiro and alsjsksksksks

It's all coming together now AAAAA

I've started to get my brain going with timelines cuz I wanna extend the Slugterra canon timeline, and I've decided that the Eastern Caverns timeline doesn't change. It's still 20 years of the Emperor's Reign, but it's the events in the 99 Caverns that will be extended.

But rouvh timeline rn is that, at the end of Into the Shadows, Eli is 25 uwu

slugterra arc rewrite (RoE onwards)

slugterra was an amazing show but i feel like there was a lot of missed potential, so I will be reordering and adding my own changes & notes to the story arcs after Ghoul from Beyond. Disclaimer: The show doesn't belong to me nor am I affiliated with them. These are just my own ideations. Also, Slugterra Ascension is not considered as Canon in this post.

Return of the Elementals. In this version, it stays pretty much the same. Elie, Trixie, Kord, Pronto as well as the newly joined Junjie fight for the Elementals and fight the Goon doc and Dr Blakk, find Eli's dad, etc. They finish on saying that the five of them will find Will Shane together.

Slug Fu Showdown. While I don't have many problems with the original, I feel like they should've fleshed more into the details, so in my version, Eli will struggle and eventual grasp the context. He firsts succeeds with Burpy and then slowly extends it to the rest of his arsenal, and he can barely control the Elementals by the end.

Into the Darkness. Continuing from the previous arc, they plan to rescue Will Shane but is interrupted by the appearance of Tad and Pieper. Junjie immediately has slight distrust but also mild fascination to the pair because Pieper is an unknown species. Eli trusts Tad immediately(as he does), and Junjie has to pull him to the side and tell him to at least be a little on guard. Tad sees Junjie training early in the morning and asks what it is, Junjie tells him that it is slug fu and that it is too difficult for him at his level. Eli isn't happy and tries to teach Tad but he doesn't understand it enough himself to teach it. The rest of the plot follows the original movie, but his time the Shadow Clan are a little more cooperative purely because of Junjie's presence and status. It ends similarly, where peace is restored and Tad + Pieper end up in the deep caverns.

The Will of Shane my own title for the arc where they go find Will Shane. This goes into Will Shane's origins a bit including his training with the Unbeatable Master and him encountering his first main slug. Cut to the gang asking the Shadow Clan for help, who agree in courtesy of Will Shane and also Junjie because he is just Cool Like That. They end up going into the Deep Caverns to find more information and they encounter the Darkbane again, as well as Tad and Pieper, but they escape. They explore the unknown parts of Deep Caverns and eventually find Will Shane and rescue him. They have to fight the massive Darkbane army plus Tad and Pieper. With the Shadow Clan providing support by the Guardian gate, Will Shane and the Shadow Clan head convene. Eli and Junjie describe Pieper to them, and tell them how Pieper was able to reach velocity in the Deep Caverns. With their combined extensive slug knowledge, they figure out what kind of slug Pieper is (perhaps from one of the caverns that the Eastern Caverns portal also leads to; or universal slug). While preparing for battle, Kord and Red Hook make a wrist blaster for Eli with the help of Junjie. They battle it out with Eli and Junjie using Slug Fu to infiltrate the ranks and get to Tad, and the rest of them chipping away at the front lines with ye old slugslinging. They end up winning but Will Shane dies taking out Tad. Pieper is taken by Eli and Junjie but she is angry about it.

Eastern Caverns. After that, the gang decide to fulfill their promise and take Junjie home. Everything spans out in pretty much the same way except Eli is more experienced in Slug Fu at the start. They slowly build a relationship with Pieper and she slowly starts trusting them. Neither the Emperor nor the Daifu knows what Pieper is so it's all fun and games when they start using her in duels. Everything finishes in about the same way, and Pieper either stays with Junjie to protect the Easter Caverns (she can never fully trust who her first owner hated, and she's highly intrigued by Junjie's respect and bond with all slugs), or she joins Eli's arsenal. I prefer the former because it's more different than the usual trope of Eli getting his opponent's slugs, but you can decide for yourself.

Okay, as someone who started Hollow Knight and never finished it (I’m really bad at finishing games. Took me not playing it for 6 months before finally doing the last little bit of Fire Emblem: Three Houses), I am FASCINATED by this Hollow Knight AU, kid. This is exactly the kind of weird and esoteric that I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

So, please explain how magic works in this AU, cause that’s the part that I desperately want to know. That and details on how Luz ended up in the Boiling Isles this time if there’s any major differences.

Stated earlier, magic is more like soul. You sort of just channel ya soul n twist it into magic. Which is how it can go awry and royally fuck you over. Which also means that people like Eda w stronger souls are Very sought after bc of their magic n soul. Emperor Belos heard of a human knight AND shes traveling w Eda? Win win

And, as much as I hate this comparison, Luz ended up there like Undertale. She sorta just found a weak spot when Eda was dicking around and when she landed in the underground Boiling Isles her escape got covered up. So also kinda like Slugterra. 3 people will get that reference

Avatar the last airbender. instead of slugs channeling powers, it would be humans, who can only do the core 4 of the elementals, and do not have the chi necessary for the energy elementals power (though the more powerful benders can utilize some of it). eli's family are non-benders, hence them mainly being heroes in the underground. Interesting creatures live above and below the ground. Yang could have been a fire bender, hence the origins of slug-fu. maybe both the shanes and the yangs have had the avatar in their family at some point, and their lasting legacy is why they became the protectors. shanes have to stop the 2 worlds from meeting, and from the people of slugterra learning how to bend, since the magic of slugterra elevates the bending power, and people would get hurt from bad actors, or people trying to learn and hurting themselves. And a plot could be that some air nomads escaped the genocide into slugterra discreetly, or that during the 100 years, the shanes have had to convince MANY refugees to not practice bending in from of the slugterran natives, or damn what if the fire nation found slugterra and attacked? oooo, and what if as part of avatar training, the avatar and trusted advisors alone know of the shane's mission, so aang meets shanes from 100 years ago but dont learn where the entrance is, and due to 100 years of war the shane family has dwindled to will and young eli, and eli as a non-bender helps out in the war against Ozai, and then in return a few years later aang helps eli when he's the only one left and keeps watch of the surface for him, and even goes down to slugterra for the s2 finale, or defeating YET ANOTHER emperor, or teaching junjie to fire bend sometimes, and maybe tad could be sent back up to help a sligtly older aang instead of fall into the deep caverns, im thinking too hard about this-

If you wanted to do a crossover with slugterra what show would you do? For me personally it’s storm hawks ( obviously) and the other one is Ninjago ( because of the elements and the ninjas)

Junjie was literally controlled for 20 years, he destroyed his home against his will, and the Shane Gang had to fight Goon Doc to free him.

Free, the first thing that came to his mind was going back to the Eastern Caverns and see what was going on.

Guess what surprise was waiting for him.

Absolutamente todo el mundo lo detestaba, nadie sospechó que algo podía andar mal, sus Cavernas estaban en la mierda, y el Emperador que tanto le había hecho sufrir reinaba en su hogar con puño de hierro. Joda, ni siquiera el Clan Sombra tuvo esperanza en él y se largaron.

Aún cuando hizo todo lo posible por arreglar la situación, todo el mundo seguía tratandolo como una escoria.

Si la banda de Shane se hubiera quedado en BajoTerra, Junjie habría estado totalmente solo.

Absolutely everybody despited him, nobody suspected something could be wrong, his Caverns were fucked up, and the Emperor that made him suffer so much was ruling his home with iron fist. Hell, even the Shadow Clan lost hope on him and ran off.

Even when he did everything he could to fix the situation, everybody was still treating him like a scum.

You get what was happening to him?

If the Shane Gang have stayed in Slugterra, Junjie would have been completely alone.

Now imagine it, if Junjie had returned on his own, imagine all the bad treatment he would have received, imagine all the despise he would have, imagine all the enemies that would want his head, imagine so much pressure, so much hate, all concentrated in one single person, that feel all the weight of the situation.

Junjie estuvo a un pelo de convertirse en un villano, creció con una presión enorme, en la situación hipotética de haber estado en las Cavernas del Este solo, y de alguna manera derrotar al Emperador, habiendo sido expuesto a todo ese daño físico y psicológico, Junjie se pudo haber convertido en un villano mucho PEOR que el Emperador.

Porque esta vez no sería alguien con ansias de gobernar.

Esta vez, es un alma rota y atormentada, que ha sido abusada desde un principio, que ahora quiere que las Cavernas del Este sienta su dolor.

Y sin el Emperador, sin Lian, sin el Clan Sombra, sin nadie que pueda hacerle frente en las Cavernas del Este...

Junjie was so close to become a villian, he growed up with a huge pressure, in the hypothetical situation of being in the Eastern Caverns on his own, and somehow managing to defeat the Emperor, being exposed to all the physical and psychological damage, Junjie could have turned into a villian way WORSE than the Emperor.

Because this time was not someone with a wish to domain.

This time, is a broken and tormented soul, that have been abused from the very beginning, that now wants the Eastern Caverns to feel his pain.

And without the Emperor, without Lian, without the Shadow Clan, without someone who can stand against him...

Hello, Ninjago fandom, while we impatiently wait for the second half of Crystalized to be released, may I interest you in some good old nostalgic shows with familiar Canadian voice actors to pass the time. Ironically, Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA) is in every single one of my suggested shows and in 3 of the 4, he’s got a lead role. XD

Also, I need more people to revive some of these old fandoms! Please hear me out while I info dump! The options get better as we go along since I firmly believe in saving the best for last. I hope you like my long ramble.

First off, we have Slugterra:

This show had a pretty good run with multiple seasons and specials. It’s a good action show and enjoyable for passing the time. I binge watched it while reading through my driver’s training stuff. A solid Saturday morning-esque show.

As far as notable characters and voice actors go, we’ve got:

Eli Shane voiced by Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA): he’s the main guy and very comparable to Lloyd since he’s got daddy issues. Poor guy spends forever trying to locate his dad while at the same time filling the role as hero and protector of the Caverns. Also, he’s the reason this show got so many female viewers. Those simps.

Dr. Thaddeus Blakk voiced by Mark Oliver (Garmadon’s VA): he’s the typical big bad villain type. A bit bland but it’s hilarious to listen to if you’re a Ninjago fan because all you end up hearing is Lloyd vs. Garmadon half the time.

Kord Zane voiced by Andrew Francis (Morro’s VA): he’s a troll and the muscle and mechanic of the main group. Not much to say about him. He’s a sweet, protective dude. Also, I just like that he’s got the name Kord Zane since I’m a huge Zane fan.

Trixie Sting voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent (Racer Seven’s VA): she’s neat and seems to be the second in command to Eli. She’s you’re typical strong female character type. Good news is that there’s no annoying trope that she is in love with the main guy though.

Pronto voiced by Lee Tockar (Borg’s VA): he fits the comedic relief trope really well. Unfortunately, he’s borderline annoying for me. I don’t have anything really notable to say about him. You just gotta tolerate him. Occasionally he has his uses.

Junjie voiced by Vincent Tong (Kai’s VA): he’s not a main character but I really love him and the Asian influence the show goes through when he’s around. Cool dude that also has so much trauma packed into him when you think about all he went through. You’ll understand if you watch.

Burpy is the iconic slug of the series. A 10/10 character. Loyal as ever and super adorable. Sassy when he wants to be.

Pros of this show:

Adorable side character slugs with awesome powers

Elemental slugs!!

a whole arc about trying to free a place from an evil emperor (sound familiar?)

Teaches against animal cruelty.

Shadow creatures that for once aren’t evil villains.

So many other familiar side characters with Ninjago VA’s. It’s honestly just fun to see how many familiar voices you can pick out.

Interesting concept, lore, and world building if you dig deep enough and overanalyze everything.

Cool fights and slug shootouts.

Action with a side of found family is always a plus.

Solid team dynamics and brotherly teasing.

A bonus is that there’s very little romance in this show. Very refreshing to see.

Next we have a forgotten classic, Class of the Titans:

This show had two seasons and had a decent ending. It definitely deserved more run time because there really aren’t that many animated shows about Greek Mythology that are kid friendly. A big main crew with a few familiar Ninjago voice actors sprinkled in for the fun of it. Another Saturday morning-esque show but with a better feel of having an overarching plot than Slugterra did in my opinion.

They have so many character tropes that create the whole main crew so I’m going to try to go through them quickly.

Jay voiced by Kirby Morrow (Cole’s VA): the level-headed leader. Very similar to how Cole started out as team leader. Also, it’s just funny for Ninjago fans to see a character named Jay be voiced by Cole’s voice actor.

Theresa voiced by Kelly Sheridan (Gayle Gossip’s VA or better known for playing Barbie): a psychic seer who is Jay’s love interest (reminds me of Barbie and the Nutcracker solely bc of the voice actors). I wish I liked her more, especially since she’s a seer like Zane. Honestly, neither girl characters really stand out to me but they’re nice to have around.

Atlanta voiced by Meghan Black in season one: the action archer girl who has super speed. She’s neat and very strong-willed. (Side note: I find it funny that every main character girl I’ve mentioned so far are all redheads.)

Odie voiced by Doron Bell Jr. (Griffin’s VA): the smart tech guy. He has his uses and sassy moments. It’s also funny to see what was considered high tech back in the mid 2000s.

Herry voiced by Ty Olsson: your typical strong, protective, big brother guy trope. He’s got a really awesome, scrappy grandma.

Neil voiced by Ted Cole: the self-absorbed guy who serves as comedic relief a good portion of the time. Some might find him annoying but he has his high points and is genuinely funny. He’s not a fighter at all and is dubbed “the lucky one.” And boy, is he lucky indeed.

Archie voiced by Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA): my personal favorite. He’s an occasional jerk but he’s genuinely an adorkable guy. I relate to his whole “wonky ankle” thing, but he’s a great warrior regardless (and the second fastest on the team? How?). He’s got a huge crush on Atlanta which is amusing and sometimes cringy to watch.

Cronus voiced by David Kaye: the main villain of the show. Typical wicked guy who wants to end the kids who are prophesied to defeat him. I know there’s a good number of simps for him. It’s hilarious how much this god loathes this group of kids but is also genuinely terrified of them, especially Jay.

Pros:

If you’re missing Cole’s voice actor, this is the show to watch.

The entire show is free on YouTube Very imaginative spin on some of the Greek gods like Dionysius to make it kid friendly. And wait til you see Hades.

Still, they aren’t afraid to show the gods can be petty and vengeful.

Greek mythology! What more could you want?

I personally love the way they showcase so many Greek characters and creatures. Is it sometimes off? Yes. Is it still enjoyable to watch? YES!

Interesting battles and solutions.

Will show death and the occasional bloody injury. (Not overtly graphic though so don’t worry.)

The poor kids, similar to Lloyd, are prophecy bound to defeat the evil villain and thus have their lives turned upside to become heroes fighting monsters. Theresa eventually throws a somewhat justified hissy fit over this.

Enjoyable characters and team dynamics. So much sibling teasing between everyone and it’s so relatable to watch.

Also, they’re just teens being teens so they do stupid stuff sometimes and that just makes it all the more fun to watch.

A bonus, there’s two girls on the team rather than your stereotypical one main girl trope.

A big favorite of mine, Storm Hawks:

Oh look, another red head character with green eyes. And he’s the lead character voiced by Sam Vincent! XD Here me out though, this show is actually great. If you can get past the funky character designs and animation, it’s a genuinely fun show. It’s so imaginative and for me, it ticks all the right tropes. I would like to say that if you’re a Ninjago fan, you just might be able to like Storm Hawks. It’s a show that I rewatch again and again and still enjoy it. Fans of it will say it ended to soon with only two seasons and an open conclusion that leaves room for more adventures. I wish there was more. The flow was good and I felt it followed a decent overarching plot with quirky filler episodes thrown in to establish the characters more.

Now as far as main characters go, we have a good mix of interesting ones. Yes, they fall into stereotypical archetypes but for some reason, I really like them:

Aerrow voiced by Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA: the young, ambitious Sky Knight of the Storm Hawks. He’s your typical, altruistic hero/leader/chosen one. I love how you can really see how much he cares for his team. He’s got a big legacy to live up to and you know what, he’s absolutely demolishing everyone’s limited expectations of him. This boy survived multiple fights with the supposedly deadliest warrior in the world.

Piper voiced by Chiara Zanni: she’s the intelligent one of the bunch and typically possesses the one brain cell they all share. She’s the navigator, crystal expert, and the second in command. In short, she’s an adorable nerd and my favorite despite having some out of character moments. I also like the little something something she’s got going on with Aerrow. Yes, it’s cliché but it’s open enough that you can interpret it romantically or platonically. And honestly, the way Piper is written, you could almost say she’s bi. But holy cow, that finale with her and Aerrow was everything! Love it.

Junko voiced by Colin Murdock (Ed’s VA aka Jay’s dad): the stereotypical gentle giant type. He’s sweet and strong but constantly doubts his ability because he was bullied. He’s similar to Kord from Slugterra in that he’s got muscle but also serves as the airship’s mechanic. He has a couple of spotlight episodes that do his character justice.

Finn voiced by Matt Hill (Hyper-Sonic’s VA aka that random disco head racer from Prime Empire): on the outside, when paired with Junko, they typically serve as the meat headed comic relief. However, when it comes down to it, Finn is selfless and will make the right choice as episodes have shown. He can get annoying but I highly appreciate that he knows how to buckle down and get a job done and he truly is a great sharpshooter.

Stork voiced by Scott McNeil (VA for many villains in Ninjago): one of the fan favorites for his doom and gloom sort of attitude. He’s the pilot and gives off emo vibes to me. A very relatable character for most pessimists. He’s the oldest of the crew full of kids but he sticks it out through all their wild adventures even if he is completely terrified while trying to survive. Still, he’s got a beserk button so don’t you ever think of touch his precious ship, the Condor. He can and will take out a complete armada.

Radarr voiced by Asaph Fipke: he’s Aerrow’s co-pilot and animal companion of the show. He’s very scrappy and has good intuition. A valuable member of the Storm Hawks. He even gets a couple of his own episodes to shine in.

Now, I gotta mention the villains too since there is a quirky handful of them:

Cyclonis voiced by Lenore Zann: she’s the lead villain and ruler of her kingdom at just 14 years old. She’s very powerful and very intimidating when she wants to be since she’s got a bunch of wacky crystal powers like Piper. I find her interesting just because she’s a young girl who serves as the main big bad villain versus previous shows where it’s a broad-shouldered middle aged guy in a black suit. I wish they showed more on her backstory but a decent villain nonetheless. Comparable to Harumi in that she’s a female kid villain who is deep down broken and lonely and in desperate need of therapy and a friend.

Dark Ace voiced by Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA): is the second in command to Cyclonis and is extremely loyal to her. He’s constantly getting beat by Aerrow and can never manage to exterminate him much to his annoyance. It’s hilarious watching their fights because it’s just Sam Vincent alternating between tones. He’s got cool red eyes and I do believe he also has a bit of a following among the female fans.

Ravess voiced by Cathy Weseluck (Patty Keys VA aka that random sales lady): she’s an archer who has a penchant for the violin. I love her leitmotif whenever she comes onscreen. Ambitious but still scared to turn on her 14 year old boss. She does play a helpful role I towards the finale.

Snipe voiced by Colin Murdock (Ed’s VA): he’s the brother of Ravess and serves as the big dumb muscle guy. I don’t really care for him but his sibling interactions with Ravess are funny.

Raptors voiced by a bunch of familiar VAs: I just had to mention this reptilian group because they are reminiscent of the Serpentine from Ninjago.

Pros:

Great side characters and fun episodes.

Good action and adventure vibes

The whole show is free on YouTube.

Again, world building and lore is very imaginative. It deserved a larger budget and more seasons.

Has your typical chosen/prophesied one narrative that we’ve all come to either love or hate.

Crystal magic (kinda like how we’re now on the season Crystalized)

Adorable main cast who all get a chance in the spotlight, and even the annoying ones do have their high points like I mentioned.

Ninjago VA’s are everywhere in this show too. And with the limited voices they have, they really make the most of it but it’s hilarious to see VA’s essentially talking to themselves onscreen.

And once again, there’s top notch team dynamics in this show with good sibling-like interactions between characters. They squabble but still make up and really care for each other’s wellbeing.

Found family trope is in this and it’s great and I’m a sucker for it. It’s heavily implied the three human kid heroes are orphans so there’s that lovely dose of angst I always love.

Something about Aerrow being a leader just hits right. He’s a great one even if he is just 14 years old.

Good balance between high stakes and humor. The main characters are kids and heroes and it shows with all the shenanigans they manage to throw themselves into.

Great finale. Trust me. The show gets better as you continue to watch it and the episodes get less disjointed.

Friends to lovers or just really close friends trope between Aerrow and Piper. I cannot stop gushing about how natural their dynamic feels and how they play off each other’s energy beautifully. They communicate openly and really well with each other. And if romance isn’t your thing, their bond can totally be seen as platonic.

Cyclonis is a curious villain character that is different from your stereotypical guy cartoon villain. I like her and her powers.

Huge bonus that Ninjago has struggled with doing well, love triangles. Storm Hawks has no place for that. In fact, it subverts that trope entirely! Piper does not act all jealous whenever there is another girl character around and this is a huge breath of fresh air from the pettiness many shows contain. Aerrow occasionally acts wary and annoyed when Piper gushes over stuck up guys, but it’s proven justified and he isn’t overprotective or obnoxious about it. Just cautious and comforting when things do go south.

And lastly, this underrated masterpiece, The Deep:

Great news, this show is still ongoing and recently released their 4th season. It’s got a decent overarching narrative of searching for a lost underwater city Lemuria. There are many filler episodes, but trust me, they are fun. Not gonna lie, I’m a huge sucker for any ocean animated shows. This one is just so funny and relatable. It’s got great family dynamics with many familiar Ninjago voice actors. The adventures and creatures are all so cool! It ties myth, mystery, and science all into one great show. The sci-fi fantasy vibe is amazing. But basically, my liking of this show is hugely centered on not just the creativity of it but the strong family dynamics that glues the entire show together. Unlike most shows where parents are absent or there’s only one, this cartoon portrays a lovely married couple and their kids. Seriously, how often does the chosen one/protagonist of the show actually get a decent childhood with loving parents?!

With characters, we have a small main cast with a handful of recurring side characters. This means, you gotta love the main characters:

Antaeus Nekton aka Ant voiced by Vincent Tong (Kai’s VA): he’s the excitable main protagonist child and chosen one of the family. He’s extremely curious and gets into trouble often, but fortunately for him, he’s got an intelligent engineering mind that helps him get out of trouble… most times. Fortunately for him though, he’s got a great family backing him up. I find him to be a likable character as far as protagonists go and good representation of annoying younger siblings.

Fontaine Nekton voiced by Ashleigh Ball (Sally’s VA aka that pink-haired girl from Crystalized): she’s the older sister character. Sometimes she acts as the only voice of reason onboard the ship. I find her extremely relatable. It’s clear that although Ant annoys her, she still very much loves him and will do anything to protect him and that is so wholesome. She’s got a crush on Finn who’s a slick teen pirate voiced by Sam Vincent (Lloyd’s VA) and most of the fandom really loves the flirty dynamic they have. I gotta admit, they are pretty cute together.

William Nekton aka Will voiced by Michael Dobson (VA for many Ninjago side characters): he is the dad and the muscle of the crew. Still, like everyone else, he’s smart. He’s super reasonable and a really great example of a good father and husband. He has his funny moments and craziness too though.

Kaiko Nekton voiced by Kathleen Barr (Misako’s VA): this woman is my personal favorite and I could gush on and on about how totally awesome she is. Unlike Misako, Kaiko is the most awesome mother ever to her kids and is fiercely protective of them. She has a wide skill set from being a submarine pilot, mechanic, and marine biologist. In short, she’s amazing and I’m a huge simp for her.

Jeffrey: he’s the adorable animal sidekick. He’s an intelligent, expressive fish and has helped saved the Nekton family on multiple occasions. Very relatable because he is cookie-motivated. Smarter than your average wannabe pirate.

Nereus voiced by Lee Tockar (Borg’s VA): he’s your typical mystical old dude with a long white beard. Essentially he’s the Wu of this show. Funny but infuriatingly cryptic at times.

Pros:

This show was based off comics so you can go read those. (Kaiko gets an awesome moment in those that I really wish they would have kept in the tv show.)

Vaguely based off the Incredibles.

Non-absent parents who are top notch and actually parent their kids fairly.

Submarines and marine life are always a plus in my book.

Family dynamics are on point. Seriously, this is top notch stuff right here. Also, sibling dynamics are so sweet.

Representation of a good solid marriage. Bonus points because it’s interracial, making their kids mixed. All-round good representation.

Good musical score. (Not as good as Ninjago’s but still pretty good.)

The whole family is smart and super skilled but it shows that they still make mistakes and are flawed humans just like everyone else. Even the parents aren’t shown to be completely infallible and land in their own sticky situations plenty of times and I find that super neat and good of the writers to do.

Great mind-boggling adventures.

The villains are wacky yet endearing sometimes.

There’s villain that is reminiscent of Morro. He’s even got the same voice actor and goes through the same arc of being all jealous of the chosen one.

”Have faith in the fish.” Jeffrey is great animal companion. Who knew you could actually make a fish work as a good character.

Just huge bonus overall with this show because of the solid family representation we’ve got going on here.

Basically, to sum everything up, GO WATCH THESE SHOWS! And let me know if you enjoy them, I would love to hear your thoughts on them.

this is SUCH a good point. I've been meaning to skim through the show and make a proper timeline as to where every event happened in the span of the year, because its bananas. Maybe (probably) Eli is just as fustrated as we are that he hasn't actively been searching but hey, he fought blakk then found Junjie then had to learn slug fu then had to help defeat the emperor and aid the east and then RIGHT when they may have time they find Tad the Traumatized Child and they had to spend time helping him and finding him...and part of the reason why I wanna make the timeline is actually for the will happy birthday son scene. I wanna know how long after tad's fall that happened, because if it was a day it makes it more emotional for eli to know he's got family even after the betrayal, and if it was a while it means they HAVE lied low, probably scarred by the new kid they spent at least weeks helping out leaving them.

I just really want a canon moment where eli's like: "you know what? I'm calling up my allies, you deal w the small stuff. I'm taking a trip to the shadow clan and learning stuff." Or, like, commits his free time to it, making small trips around slugterra ("I'll visit that hideout under the falls this weekend", "maybe I can look thru the rubble in molemound for a few days", that type of thing). We're at a point in the narrative where he would do that, and BECAUSE of his search shit and plot happens, not the other way around. It would be a good way to progress this story, just like how the eastern cavern twist provided another slug-filled culture in the east and gave the Gang a new perspective on how energy and tech and legacy and heroism functioned.

Because I'll never forget how, when the emperor showed up, Junjie had fellow fighters, and even shadow clan. Meanwhile, he shanes have been blasted into slugterra hell, AND fought blakk...basically by their own, at least for the major battles. Their openess to tad, to me, is in part because they saw that in the east and went "oh, maybe allies, even if theyre not in the gang particularly, as actually pretty useful".

Long rant aside, that what I wished for eli and the gang; make allies, stabilize the region and have helpers, then take the extra time in the schedule to breathe, get therapy, and learn the will shane lore. Cause yeah, if the shane gang are the main emergency force in this world and them alone, they're never gonna have time to save will! Duh!

...I'm gonna be SO clear about this: this is NOT the fault of Eli, obviously. He's a kid and trying his best.

but, when Eli got to Slugterra, he COULD have made it his life's mission to find out what happened to his dad, or find all the secrets that supposedly died with him. He didn't. He took up being the Shane and left the past buried unless it smacked him in the face in some current situation. He never once looked for what his dad left him, didn't even go looking for Will's remaining allies. They all just found him, and he only went searching when he needed to - Redhook, the elementals, etc...

it could also be that Will left some things, as much as he could (tho he still should've told him stuff about his enemies), but Eli wasn't interested in unearthing it. He wanted to move on, make a path for himself and not focus on what happened. That could also influence why he never even looks for his dad - he wants to, but he's been in a "look to the future" mindset for so long it hurts to look back and realize all he's missed out on in being a Shane.

personally, I think he did take the right route. That would have driven him insane, and he knew that. There's something really refreshing about such a possibly vengeful character strictly choosing to be a force for good and stick to current bad guys instead. Just...remember. We got no will/Slugterra answers partially because Eli never truly looked for them. I think he was going to...but in the future, when the current fires are put out. Or after therapy, whichever came first.

SORRY I JSUT TO TALK ABOUT THE GOON DOC. A LITTLE BIT.

he was. a guardian slug. a slug that had been protecting a guardian gate for over 2000 years, being a slug of the utmost power. the final thing he did while he still was under his own mind, free from the control of dark energy. was heal another guardian slug so they could escape first.

The Goon was a selfless boon doc. permanently corrupted by the emperor. he can’t even be healed at this point, whenever he tries to be healed with good slug energy, his form cracks and he coughs, like he’s dying. The emperor shoved so much dark energy into him he can no longer be the slug he once was.

the goon is my favorite little guy and the scream he made while the emperor ghouled in “The fall of the eastern champion” haunts my every move. he was a good slug. he was a normal boon doc.
