The Summer Hikaru Died is like 4 episodes of insane grief and homosexual symbolism with a dash of horror to boot. And then the 5th episode is like what if you and the monster inhabiting your crush's corpse fought ghosts except the monster was lowkey bad at protecting you and you are just really really bad at dealing with ghosts in general. And also you symbolically fucked (again) in an empty classroom

I think it'd be neat if Lloyd being evenly split 1/4th Oni 1/4th Dragon meant that he was simultaneously loved and hated by both species. In the same way a cat could be purring as it head-bumps you before suddenly the pupils dilate and it enters Evil Attack Mode, the dragons around Lloyd are like omg baby boy :] and then they catch a whiff of that Oni scent underneath and they're like evil >:[. None of them understand why this happens, not even the dragons themselves. Lloyd has yet to even realize his heritage might be the cause of this strangeness

Now, on one hand, this is slightly inconvenient when the dragons that don't know Lloyd decide to bite him for no reason in particular. On the other hand, it's really funny when the random Oni they came to beat up has suddenly decided Lloyd is but a small dumbass youngster (and would be, by Oni standards) and they need to scruff him. Nobody ever lets that go

Obsessed with the idea of Daidan casually appearing to the other ninja by chance for many reasons, but I think the best is like. We have absolutely no idea if Kai even knows her name. We don't even know if Daidan knows Kai's name. And I get it, both of them were going through some shit and realistically didn't know each other that long, but it's so funny.

Kai tries to introduce his friends to the dragon he trauma-bonded with and he immediately hits every stage of internal panic because he realized he has absolutely no clue what her name is. He's just been calling her the Guardian Dragon in his head and immediately shoved everything from the Land of Monsters out of his mind as soon as he saw Lloyd. He's going through every hoop possible to avoid addressing Daidan by her name. He says "oh yeah this is the Guardian Dragon that helped me out" and immediately changes the conversation in the hopes everyone just assumes her title is like the Matriarch dragons. He could also ask Daidan for her name later. He won't. Because that's embarrassing as hell.

She doesn't tell anyone her name. They just keep calling her the dragon and are like hey, Kai, does she actually have a name? And Kai changes the subject because he can't just say no, if he's wrong then he looks like a liar. And everyone will ask questions and he's not about to share his traumatic experiences with anyone ever until he dies. He's having an entire crisis, Daidan just keeps him in this game because it's funny.

She does give in eventually. It's literally 5 minutes before she leaves. She says something like "if you ever need my assistance, simply ask for Daidan" and Kai, who has just gone through multiple days of mental torment, shouts at the top of his lungs; "THAT'S YOUR NAME?????", only for everyone to immediately whirl their heads around to stare at him.

Daidan wants to laugh. But it also took her an embarrassingly long time before she realized the 'Kai' everyone was talking about was, in fact, the Fire Ninja. So she can't say anything. She's just a little shit for fun. Which she deserves

The idea that Hornet and the Hollow Knight may have known each other in the brief interval before sealing away the Radiance (for a time) makes me so sick. They had to, surely, or at the very least are connected by something intrinsic. The Hollow Knight has Hornet's same attacks--her parry and her forward-dash. Or, perhaps more accurately, Hornet has the Hollow Knight's attacks. It makes more sense--perhaps they had the same teacher. Perhaps it is simply something coincidence, intrinsic to their beings.

Or perhaps Hornet was once a small little spiderling, roaming the White Palace, and she watched her sibling spar with the best knights and fighters in all of Hallownest. Again and again, the Pale King demanded, until the vessel was perfect. No moment of reprieve, not a single foot misplaced. A knight falls, again. A sword wobbles, again. And when it's all done perfectly, do it all again, until they are perfect every single time.

The Hollow Knight is exhausted. But they obey. They don't know that Hornet watches, and she holds a tiny needle that could do no more than sow fabric. Doesn't know she stands aside and copies, watches how they move, how they jab, whirl and dance. She trips over her own feet, but she stands up and does it again, and again, and again. Hollow doesn't give up, Hollow keeps going, so she won't stop until they stop. Maybe then they could spar one day. No one wants to spar with the princess, but Hollow doesn't care for anything. Their father said it himself. Hornet doesn't know if thats true, but Hollow lets her hide behind their horns and try to lift a nail six times the size of her.

In years time, Hornet would perfect those attacks down to a science. A prodigy in her own right. The battle tactics she learned from watching her sibling are the same she uses now, as she cuts down even more of her family, vessel after vessel, as they try to reach the Black Egg. Hollow has unwittingly taught her how to slay their kin for the sake of eternal slumber, the last show of protection she knows how to do.

And yet, this is of benefit, too. For the Ghost that has fought her, knows her attacks, recognizes it. They stand before the Hollow Knight and they see it, they know these attacks. Jump up, dash, watch for the way the feet brace and be lighter than a feather. They know this dance. The fight comes almost naturally, they've done this before. A fight easier than it should have been--because they see Hornet dashing their way, and it feels a little less intimidating.

I wonder if, through the Infection riddling the Hollow Knight's mind, they could even recognize the nail digging into their skull. If they saw the red dress, the body holding their head back. If, just before the fall, a single, unbidden thought entered the mind of the Pure Vessel: I know you.

Centipede Kai angst is so funny to me because I'm gonna be totally real. I think Kai would forget he's inhuman. I think he was going through so much hell he didn't even clock something monstrous was happening to him. The others are the ones to notice he has like mandibles hiding between his cheek and teeth and Kai's only reaction is to squeal and yell GROSS for a few hours before he tries to do weird shit with it. It takes him a week and then he forgets about it.

He'll remember once in a blue moon and check to make sure the centipede-ness is still there, then go back to his daily business. His sister turned into a sea-dragon, his borderline brother has an oni form, one of his friends was a ghost for a while, 2 of them are robots, & the new sister he adopted does WAY more 'monstery' things than him on a regular basis. He has so many more things to worry about than the weird bug-scales on his back

Now, whether or not he'd have angst over having a permanent reminder from the Land of Monsters...is another story
