“And here I thought we were friends!” Will feigned causing Tom to chuckle.

Chapter 10: Sick

"You sure I can't convince you to share that recipe?" asked Kord. He was digging into his breakfast with Trixie seated next to him at the dining table. 'Molenoid Pancakes' were one of Kord's favorite dishes, even though he had no idea how Pronto made them.

"A chef's greatest tools are his recipes, giving them out freely is completely out of the question," replied Pronto dramatically.

Next to Kord sat Trixie who had stopped eating her own usual breakfast, cereal, and was looking around the room. "I'll go try waking up Eli," she said as she began getting out of her chair.

"I wouldn't bother," interrupted Kord in between bites. "I already tried, he's pretty much out cold."

"It's only natural, we were up late yesterday helping out with the Frostcrawlers, and it didn't help that Eli accidentally fell into their glacial water," said Pronto.

"Accidentally," said Kord sarcastically. Remembering how a certain someone misfired and hit Eli in the back with a Flatulorhinkus slug, sending him off the ice pathway he was standing on.

"Morning," interrupted Eli as he walked shakily towards the living room.

"Hey, sleeping beauty, though it's not really the morning anymore," joked Trixie. "Want some cereal?"

"No, I'm alright," he said as he grabbed a seat on one of the couches.

"Good, I never understood why you two enjoy that stuff anyway, let me make some pancakes for you. Kord can attest to their deliciousness."

"Sure can," said Kord happily as he took another bite.

"Thanks but it's fine, I'm not really in the mood for breakfast anyway," said Eli as he switched from sitting to lying on the couch.

Trixie, Kord, and Pronto shared a concerned look with each other.

"You feeling okay, dude?" asked Kord.

"I'm fine, I...just gotta get some coffee in me," he replied as he slowly got up from the couch.

Just then, the hideout's distress system activated, and footage showing a scuffle involving Blakk's men popped up on their holodisplay. It showed ghouls flying in all directions and citizens fleeing...

but I REALLY wanna write a slugterra fic someday where Annie Oakley is relevant because she's my hero and idk there's a lot of parallels of what her real life was like to the situation in slugterra and i love her she is my queen and i want more ppl to know about her

like I'm imagining Eli just being like "oh yeah Annie Oakley! by the time she was my age her dad died when she was eight and she hunted for a living and used her skill to join a circus-like act to flee from the slavery her mom accidentally sold her into, and used her quickly made fame and talent to pay for her family's mortgage, and then her, her Irish husband (though they read like an aspec couple), her adopted Native American chief father (the one who led the last major Native American uprising in the US, yeah, THAT ONE), and all her homies spent their lives teaching marksmanship to a reported over 15000 woman and fought for the suffragettes and almost killed Wilhelm (this would have stopped WW1) and basically chilled out their whole lives while also being oddly intertwined in American politics. Plus she had a rival in the circus troop who also hated her guts for no reason! But Annie was a better shot so everyone took her side. So yeah she's a bit inspirational to me"

Off-duty Shane Gang

Chapter 11: Pranking a prankster

MONDAY:

“Argh fine! I fold,” grumbled Kord.

He and Pronto had been sitting at the dining table playing a round of cards, Kord clearly not winning. 

“And that’s another win for the great Pronto,” he chuckled at Kord’s defeated face.

“Honestly you must be cheating or some-” Kord was interrupted by the sound of shouting.

“Trixie! What the heck is this?!” shouted Eli.

Both Pronto and Kord were quick to head upstairs, finding the situation before them quite odd. Eli was standing in the hallway with a shampoo bottle in his hand, shouting at Trixie on the other side who was struggling to stand up straight, laughing and pointing at Eli’s hair, which was… bright orange.

“What did you do to the shampoo!?” Eli asked angrily.

“Oh relax you drama queen, it comes out with water,” replied Trixie.

“It better come out…wait…what are you-?,” Eli paused his threat for a moment as he noticed Trixie standing up and holding her blaster. 

“Here let me help,” said Trixie in a mischievous voice as she loaded an Aquabeek in her blaster.

“Don’t you da-” but he was cut off as he was blasted in the face with water, causing him to slam back into his room and collapse on the floor. 

Trixie came up to him lying on the floor, wet and panting with the orange colour coming off his hair. She snapped a picture before Eli had time to get up and dashed back to the safety of her room.

TUESDAY

Pronto was in the kitchen cooking a pot of soup, but like most of his dishes, he had no recipe. His cooking mainly consisted of him stirring the simmering pot and tasting it every now and then, if he didn’t like the taste he would throw in another ingredient, no matter what it was.

Nearby Trixie set up her camera so that it was facing the kitchen and would be able to completely capture what was about to happen next. She crouched behind the couch so she wasn’t visible to her unsuspecting next victim.

“Alright pal, don’t let me down,” said Trixie. In her hand was a Frightgeist slug, the Shane gang were used to fighting against their ghouled counterparts but after a few trips to Deadweed Cavern, Trixie was lucky enough to obtain one for herself, though coming up with a name was taking longer than expected....

You know I was gonna hold off on this until I finished the first chapter but I'm too impatient to not tell others about it

I am writing my own post - Into The Shadows fanfiction! It's going to be called No Hiding In The Shadows Anymore (It's a lyric from Devil Trigger because I thought it would be cool) It'll be posted on AO3, and hopefully I manage to update it kind of consistently

I am changing some things about canon as well. Just to make the timeline feel more linear, because Eli doing so much in the span of only a year just doesn't feel right, especially since by Episode 6: Slug Run, he basically states he's been in Slugterra for months at that point (we don't learn how many but it's still been Months) so yeah I'm extending his time in Slugterra by a year, so he'll be 17 at the end of S4 instead of 16. I'm probably gonna make a timeline so I have a more clear-cut idea of how things play out

not only did slugterra fics exist, but there were a bunch of them that had hella reads, tons of chapters, and a long read time which i didn’t expect AT ALL, so im so hyped that they exist :)

I kind of love how stupid and of this time, though not really, this dog shit take is. I grew up in the Total Drama era of cartoons. You know, when Disney was doing Disney XD which was explicitly for older audiences and Cartoon Network had censored boobs flashed on screen and had to censor swears with beeps because that was just part of the show. I even remember friggin 6Teen which was 100% towards teenagers.

And most of these shows BOMBED HARD because teenagers have less time than kids, less pull on their parents for making them buy merchandise and, over here in America, are often trying to distance themselves from cartoons because of our cultural stigmas. Total Drama is I think the only one that actually succeeded and even then, it still flamed out. I mean, who remembers Max Steel? Slugterra? Stormhawks? Surfs Up?

So that's the business side of it but this post is also both incredibly juvenile and also culturally isolated. I mean... Okay, go watch anime.

That's not even a joke. Remember that the VAST majority of OG Dragonball is for kids. Not even teens but kids. And that includes dick, overt references to sex, GIANT GAPING HOLES IN PEOPLE, explicit death, etc. and that was back in the 90s. If you want a modern example though: Spy x Family is rated at PG-12, two years younger than in the US, despite it having a LOOOOT of explicit murder without censored blood or anything.

But that's because culturally, Japan is way more accepting of what animation can do and frankly what kids can handle. They also are much more open to a wider range of topics in their media in general and will just throw shit at the wall and see what works way more than America does. Shounen Jump is famous for finding its golden series by churning through projects that they kill VERY quickly.

And not all of these are more genuinely adult like Spy x Family. Rent a Girlfriend began in 2020 and it features arguably the sex industry, overt masturbation, etc. like that and it's PG-12. It's also hot garbage and VERY immature but that IS a part of the PG-13 rating that this poster is asking for. Because, you know...

Cursing and saying "Kill" doesn't mean mature. How are we having this argument in 2024? This isn't the nineties! Since when was getting to say "Bitch" adult? Many more people nowadays find control to be far more adult because swearing up and down is usually a sign of immaturity and lack of creativity.

Unless of course you're about to tell me that Hazbin Hotel is the most mature thing EVAR! -_-

And hey, here's your CONSTANT reminder on all of this for TOH specific: Hunchback of Notre Dame is Disney. 1996. Sure, they also censored making Frolo explicitly Christian but they showed his torment of the Romani. They showed what his oppression did. They showed death and violence FAR beyond anything in TOH because, you know, they actually tried.

TOH could have done so much more in its first season and a half but it never showed an interest in these elements. It was too busy patting itself on the back for being a groundbreaking kid's show while only having its representation be new.

Being for teens or adults doesn't immediately make you better. It's an argument as old as time and it always leads to bad content because it's demographic driven, not creative.

There needs to be more PG13 cartoons

for the longest time I've said that there needs to be a cartoon channel that produces cartoons aimed at teenagers, and no not adult swim. I'm not talking about family guy and south park I mean cartoons like the owl house and gravity falls that are aimed at teens instead of little kids. Because if the show was rated PG13 imagine how much better it would be? It's obvious that belos is a puritan or possibly a quaker, but Disney would never allow him to come right out and say, "I'm doing this in the name of our lord" like an actual christian would. They would also be able to say 'kill' instead of 'made them disappear'. But unlike with most adult cartoons there wouldn't be tons and tons of extremely graphic violence, blood and sex. I mean just imagine if Luz actually did say "talk to the glyph bitch" when fighting Lilith. I would pay money to watch a PG13 gravity falls, oh my god Stan would cuss like a sailor and it would be great.
