Paul T. Frankl (American, b. Austria, 1886–1958) Skyscraper Bookcase desk, c. 1928. California redwood, black lacquer.
Frankl arrived in New York from Berlin in 1914. He brought with him an outsider's fresh perspective and an enthusiasm for forging a uniquely American design aesthetic. He began as an architect and later switched to designing and painting fine art and furniture. In the years between the two world wars he, more than any other designer, helped shape the distinctive look of American modernism.
In the 1920s, he introduced his celebrated skyscraper style before turning to metal furnishings in the 1930s. Frankl opened Frankl Galleries on 48th Street, calling his company Skyscraper Furniture, which became an epicenter of American modernism, including modern textiles and wallpapers imported from Europe.

It's my headcanon that while Desmond was at the farm, he was the best at free running and target practice. Like freakishly good at climbing and running on stuff. Also, he could hit a bullseye on a moving target while sprinting from 100 meters away. But he absolutely sucked at everything else.
#I CAN BACK THIS UP#okay so we know he wasnt the best at hand to hand combat and stealth#but he managed to run away from the farm without getting caught#you either need to be really good at stealth or free running in order to not get caught by a bunch if assassins in a forest#also in ac3 he gets a gun#and hes able to shoot his enimies in close proximity fighting with his back turned#his fighting style dosent match any of his ancestorss#even the ones who had acess to guns#that leads me to believe that he has really good aim#also he canotically was able to scale the side of a skyscraper without much trouble#even with the bleeding effect you still need to have some prior skills to be able to do that in such short time#assassin's creed#desmond miles#silly desmond#desmond

be brave. let your sci-fi/fantasy cities have juxtaposing architecture. let there be 2,000-year-old monuments astride 10-year-old monoliths. let there at least be one Old City Hall.
the same thing goes for general technological advancement btw.
#most times i see the monocultural samey-same architecture in blockbusters so im an ant preaching to a wall#but i also got a lot of mental inspiration from movies and tv shows that showed that samey sameness#before i understood how cities and civilization reallg work#if a large amount of space (use your own reference point here im being vague on purpose) has similar lookinv modern buildings#then that space was built over around the same time#why was it built over? is a great questiom#often something was bought stolen or destroyed#or a combination thereof#for cities where a lot of people have in an area for a very very very long time#the question becomes even more complex#as a usamerican the most frequent tjing i see is stone churches next to skyscrapers#or federal style buildings next to brutalist ones#tiny rowhouses half a mile away from a modern pastiche of one#look it’s so easy to simplify certain parts of worldbuilding and god knows i still love media that does it#but sometimes it IS bold and original to take from real life#anywho#nobody come at me im tired and i rarely make original posts#text by rey#writing advice#worldbuilding#fantasy
