I went to go and see the Dance Craze film in the cinema the other day as it's new remaster was being showed around the uk, and it was really cool!! It was basically just an hour and a half (around about) long concert film with recordings of live performances from The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers, and Bad Manners. I really liked that it started and ended with Nite Klub by The Specials, which acted kinda more like an encore after One Step Beyond by Madness played at the end.
It really was a great film and I'm glad I went to go and see it when they were showing such an awesome restoration! I only heard about it from Rhoda Dakar posting about it, and I was lucky enough to see her live with the Interrupters in the summer, and she was just as awesome then as she was alongside her bandmates in the dance craze film
I'd definitely recommend the film, all the bands had phenomenal stage presence (especially the selecter and the beat imo) and all the performances were incredible. It was a nice way to celebrate both 2tone ska as a whole, and of course Terry Hall who sadly passed recently
#using the blogsite for blogging#ive also seen madness live before too - about 5 years ago now. they were also just as good as they were in the film!#it was again‚ bittersweet seeing the film start and end with terry hall. may he rest in peace#ALSO remember to check out the ska bands that are CURRENTLY killing it! the ppl on bad time records! the interrupters! the skints! the bsp!#ska#2tone#dance craze#anyway yeah thats my compulsory ska raving done for now - check out the film if you wish! :))#the specials#the selecter#the beat#madness#the bodysnatchers#bad manners#although again genuinely check out the people on bad time records if you havent yet - their recent tour looks amazing and im so exited for#the tour diary thing to come out!#anyways now im actually done :3

Like... You wanna look better than (but be just as skint as) other people *on paper* WHILE THE WORLD IS BURNING??
You wanna have a good record next to your name that proves how good you are at a time of worsening energy crisis?? Where's the electricity gonna come from to prove what a good, compliant person you were after your certificates have burned?
What does it mean to be qualified without having the record available to prove it to anyone?
Yes yes very good planning of you you are so much smarter than aaallll of the rest of us who are definitely much broker and therefore infinitely more worse off than you are rn put together omg

Highly recommend checking out the Ska Against Racism compilation album. It really ranges in quality, with a mix of songs that are really good and songs that are pretty bad. My personal favorites are these, in no particular order:
Proceeds go to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund.

i like catbite, we are the union, and jer! i dont listen to a lot of ska like i said but those are some bands ive listened to and enjoy :)
Z0MG i love JER!!! Kill Lincoln is also really good, you should check them out, i recently listened to their album You Were There! id also recommend Jeff Rosenstock's album Ska Dream
i also liked the Ska Against Racism compilation from bad time records; it has a song by JER and another by We Are The Union on there, and JER's song was one of my favorites on it. i also really loved the one by Kill Lincoln and the one by The Skints and the one by Westbound Train. great stuff! not all the songs are winners, i disliked one or two of them but its a great album overall with broad array of artists and musical styles
i discovered ska through the Digimon movie when i was 10 so its a very nostalgic genre for me ^_^ id love to hear your recs! been trying to branch out lol
it sounds like i should be getting recs from you! i follow bad time records (on jers recommendation, theyre very knowledgeable about ska, even just on a technical level) and i feel like thats a good place to start. i remember listening to some kill lincoln and jeff rosenstock and liking them both too!! like i said i dont follow ska super closely but i like most of what i hear :]

Terrible Screenplay Idea: "Origami Tattoo"
"Origami Tattoo" are an up and coming rock band, formed of lead singer Chad Bolivar, bass player Wendy Frost, guitarist Ignatius Van Pelt, and drummer Sakura Moto.
All four are also mages of varying talent and skill levels: Chad tries his hand at a bit of everything but focuses on summoning and portals, Wendy is great at healing and manipulation of various stuff, Ignatius has doubled down on mastering fire magic as it "looks cool as fuck", and Sakura has studied so much magic she's actually confident and competent.
Their chance at glory lies only in The Battle of the Bands in Vegas! Not only is there a record contract and immense fame awaiting them, but there is a $20,000 cash prize for the winner!
They have three days to get there, but no petrol in their van, and even lower morale.
Complicating matters is the news that long term rival jazz band "The Sax Pistols" are on their way to the contest, Chad is going to be kicked out of the college of mages, Wendy is possibly pregnant, Ignatius' fire based magic is all he is good at, and Sakura's visa is about to expire. EVEN WORSE! They are skint, and an evil portal of anti-creation is in their path and can only be stopped by the combined efforts of this ragtag group of mages!
Will they save the world, make it to the contest, and emerge triumphant in the battle of the bands?!
Find out in this road trip, buddy cop adventure musical mystery tour!

you ever buy a thing to make art with and then you're still sad and skint and have to convince yourself that what is missing is another, more expensive object so that at least your feeling of hopelessness doesn't root itself in some inherent facet of your personality or lack of ability only to realise that at some point making art stopped being about joy and became about trying to find an out and there is no out and you've killed the joy in the process so now its just you and your stupid recording device on an ice sheet because other expensive objects needed to be in the tent more than you did and some guy tries to give you his hat and some other guy tries to give you his coat and both of these objects are different from yours but they're the same in the ways that matter and they are trying to give them to you because you are cold, someone its trying to give you a hat or a jacket which is to say you need to be in the tent and someone is trying to give you the next best thing and you refuse because we've done this once already, the next best thing doesn't work, you will still be out here on the ice with the drugs wearing off, you'll still be cold, you still won't have a synthesiser, but the hat isn't really a hat and neither is the jacket and the offer in itself is a kind of shield.

Fucking GET IN! Nabbed the Soprano 2 part for "Stop! In the Name of Love" like some sort of singing assassin. Just me, x, and x about to murder it in front of a proper audience. No more hiding in the chorus like a nervous flamingo - time to spread these sequin wings and fly, bitches.
And would you look at this - high honors for the first time ever! Parents practically wet themselves with joy. Memeré's going to lose her shit when she hears. Probably tell all her church mates about her genius granddaughter.
February break is coming like the sweet release of death, except actually good. Two more days of this bollocks, though the teachers are being proper sadists and cramming in every quiz known to mankind. Bastards. Going to make people laugh so hard they cry, because apparently that's my special talent. Better than being able to do architecture, if you ask me.
Shows coming up too, thank fuck. Been ages since I've been to a proper one. Well, not really, but it FEELS like ages because I'm a dramatic cow. Currently skint as a church mouse though. Might have to actually do some babysitting until one of the sixteen places I applied to decides I'm worthy of minimum wage. The dream, right?
Valentine's Day was actually decent for once - managed to avoid seeing anyone trying to eat each other's faces in the corridors. RESULT. Got Mom a rose like the absolute legend I am, though probably should've got Dad one too. Whoops. Spent the evening at x's absolutely destroying our throats on Karaoke Revolution like we're going for some sort of vocal cord damage record.
Prom 2006 looming like some sort of formal wear nightmare. Will x get a date? Will I? Christ on a bike, don't even get me started.
[Note to self: Maybe tone down the excitement about singing Diana Ross. Starting to sound like an X-Factor reject with delusions of grandeur.]

Bugger, I've just discovered an auction site that specialises in vinyl records and vintage hifi. I'm in the process of buying a house, and I'm gonna end up skint by the time I eventually move in. Ah well, who needs a bed anyway? 🤷♂️
