7 Subtle Ways People Try to Sabotage Young Women
In my teens and twenties, people often told me I'd look great with short hair or suggested I buy clothing that didn't suit my figure, age, or personal style.
Their unsolicited "advice" confused me. For the longest time, I thought, why would you suggest this? Don't you have eyes in your head?
Oh, how young and naive I was.
Tumblr media
Now, in my thirties, I know what all that poor unsolicited advice people dumped on me was about.
The point was to try to nerf my natural attractiveness and personality. That way, others who felt like they operated with less would look better in comparison.
Sabotage, especially subtle sabotage, can come in many forms. It's often disguised as advice or concern.
These are the most common ways people, intentionally or not, try to undermine young women.
Tumblr media
Take the following "advice" with a grain of salt, even if coming from a close person.
đŸ”Ș1. Appearance-Based Sabotage
Hair and makeup: Telling you to cut your hair shorter or wear less makeup, implying that you should be "less high-maintenance" or that natural looks are "more professional," when in reality, they may be trying to diminish your confidence or attractiveness.
Clothing: Suggesting you wear baggy or unflattering clothes under the guise of being "more comfortable" or "modest," which could be a way to make you appear less confident or attractive. Also suggesting clothing that ages you unnecessarily.
Body shaming: Making comments that subtly criticize your body, such as implying you should lose or gain weight, which can undermine your self-esteem.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș2. Career and Ambition Sabotage
Downplaying achievements: Minimizing your successes or implying they are due to luck rather than your skills, which can erode your confidence in your abilities.
Discouraging ambition: Telling you to be "realistic" or not aim too high, suggesting that you should settle for less in your career or personal goals.
"Nice girl" syndrome: Advising you to be more agreeable or not to assert yourself too much, as it might make you "unlikable" or "bossy," which can inhibit your leadership potential.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș3. Relationship Sabotage
Undermining relationships: Suggesting that you are "too picky" or should settle in your relationships, which can lead to accepting less from a partner than you deserve.
Toxic advice on boundaries: Encouraging you to ignore red flags or be more accommodating in relationships, which can lead to unhealthy dynamics.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș4. Emotional and Mental Sabotage
Gaslighting: Making you question your reality or decisions, leading to self-doubt.
Playing the victim: Acting hurt or upset when you succeed or make decisions for yourself, making you feel guilty for your achievements.
Competitive undermining: Subtly competing with you in a way that makes you feel less than, such as constantly comparing themselves to you or highlighting your flaws.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș5. Social and Networking Sabotage
Isolation: Encouraging you to distance yourself from certain people or networks that could be beneficial to you, under the guise of protecting you from "bad influences." When in reality these very people or networks could help you succeed in your career/school or lead to other opportunities to advance.
Gatekeeping: Withholding information, contacts, or opportunities that could help you advance, while pretending to be supportive.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș6. Critiquing Your Personality
Labeling assertiveness as aggression: Calling you "aggressive" or "too much" when you stand up for yourself, which can push you to be more passive.
Mocking your passions: Dismissing your hobbies or interests as childish or unimportant, which can make you doubt your own preferences and values.
Tumblr media
đŸ”Ș7. Advice to Conform
Encouraging compliance: Advising you to fit in or conform to certain norms, especially if those norms are limiting or don't align with your true self. (This is different from fitting in in environments where a certain level of professionalism is needed)
Discouraging uniqueness: Telling you that certain behaviors or styles are "too out there" or "not ladylike," pushing you to suppress your individuality.
Tumblr media
Recognizing these behaviors is important so that you can protect yourself on time, i.e. before others manipulate you into making a choice that does you no favors.
Trusting your instincts, maintaining a strong sense of self, and surrounding yourself with genuinely supportive people can help you nip these negative influences in the bud.

a lot of people carry around an assumption that a work of art which is “good” in certain ways is going to be received pleasurably (i’m using an extremely broad definition of pleasure here that encompasses things like art-induced moral discomfort or sadness don’t @ me) by, like, people at large. this comes up in two different areas of interest for me: on the one hand, People Having Takes On The Internet; on the other hand, discussions about pedagogy, particularly around writing. i have, i mean, a lot of different thoughts about this - still marveling over the interview with a book critic and harvard philosophy doctoral student i read where she casually espoused the belief that if people were simply taught better what makes art good they would like bad art less, which continues to strike me as one of the stupidest things i’ve ever seen a person i temporarily had a positive opinion of say - but like in pedagogical considerations for example something i had started to wonder about when i left the classroom was like
our writing instruction relied a lot on modeling. like, “notice how this published author does this thing; see how i try to do it also; now you try.” and i think that an unarticulated/unrecognized problem in that sort of modeling is that it kind of assumes the student finds pleasure in say a thorough visual description - that the student agrees “yes this part of what makes the book good.” (an adult can probably choose to learn craft lessons from a book they dislike - but i think that’s a tall order for a seven year old.) but not all of them do, and i picked description specifically because it’s something plenty of adult readers dislike as well - “too much description” is a common goodreads complaint! to me this is viscerally sort of insane because what are you even reading for then? but the answer is that they’re reading for different reasons than i am and i’ve never heard an argument i found compelling in favor of the idea that there are objectively better or worse things to seek from art (an area of life that quite literally doesn’t matter, which is precisely what gives it meaning, IMO). and also a surprising number of people very deep into art generally or of a particular kind seem ignorant of or opposed to the idea that, for example, someone who cares about a medium as an art form is probably going to have different criteria than a person who doesn’t care and just sometimes wants to go to the movies or see a book, and this is actually normal and not a problem to be solved. which i find strange. no real conclusion here except maybe an argument for spending more writing time in elementary school on things like learning what a complete sentence is and how to write one, which is a skill that will prove valuable regardless of personal tastes.

a great way to combat genAI in the future would be educating kids (and teens and college students and all ppl) on art way more.
#i had art classes growing up but i know a lot of ppl didn't and even less kids get art classes nowadays#we need all kinds of art classes too! music and history and painting and woodshop and drawing and life drawing#i think art history is especially important bc it connects us to our past and shows why art is so important#and all kinds of art classes help kids develop different important skills#like fine motor skills and critical thinking and making choices and noticing details and how to really SEE things rather than just looking#and a lot of art skills like woodworking and ceramics and sewing are all very practical basic adult skills that we should all get to learn#there's reasons arts and crafts and other skill based electives are the first to go and its not just bc they're undervalued#its cause a population that feels capable and confident and skilled and knows how to think critically#is harder to make work shitty jobs for shitty pay#harder to control!#same reason they're banning so many books and trying to make education worse#damn maybe i should learn how to teach better#im already planning to at least try doing a workshop for adults but maybe if i end up liking that#i could work towards being able to teach kids#i feel like teaching kids would be harder cause idk what concepts they do or dont know at whatever age they are#id have to do research and maybe talk to someone who has experience teaching art to kids#but even a simple art class would be beneficial i think#like going outside to draw things in nature maybe#or portrait drawing#or a class on how to make comics or animate on paper to impress their friends lol#i would've loved that!#id have to do that with the help of another teacher maybe#idk#vague future plans#anyway the reason education would help combat ai is cause ppl would learn abt what goes onto making art#all the choices and skills and thought#and they'd be able to more easily see the difference btwn real art and ai images and understand why making art is important

Theories of Leadership
Leadership theory is a vast field with various approaches and models that attempt to explain and guide leadership practices. Here are some prominent theories of leadership:
Trait Theory: This early theory posits that effective leaders possess specific traits or characteristics, such as intelligence, confidence, charisma, and determination, which make them natural leaders.
Behavioral Theories: These theories focus on the actions and behaviors of leaders rather than inherent traits. They classify leadership styles into categories like autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire leadership, and assess their effectiveness.
Contingency Theories: Contingency models, including Fiedler's Contingency Model and Hersey-Blanchard's Situational Leadership Theory, propose that effective leadership depends on various situational factors, such as the leader's style, the followers, and the context.
Transformational Leadership: Transformational leaders inspire and motivate their followers to achieve higher levels of performance. They often use charisma, vision, and individualized consideration to encourage personal growth in their teams.
Transactional Leadership: Transactional leaders focus on exchanges with their followers. They set clear expectations, provide rewards or punishments based on performance, and ensure that their followers meet certain standards.
Servant Leadership: This philosophy emphasizes leaders' role as servants to their followers. Servant leaders prioritize the well-being of their teams and aim to serve and support their needs.
Authentic Leadership: Authentic leaders are genuine, self-aware, and lead by example. They align their actions with their values and encourage open and honest communication within their teams.
Situational Leadership: Developed by Hersey and Blanchard, this theory suggests that leadership style should adapt to the readiness and development level of the followers. Effective leaders adjust their behavior to the specific needs of their team members.
Path-Goal Theory: This theory, proposed by Robert House, posits that leaders should help followers achieve their goals by clarifying paths, removing obstacles, and providing support, which can improve job satisfaction and performance.
Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) Theory: LMX theory focuses on the unique relationships that develop between leaders and their individual followers. It suggests that leaders often have varying relationships with different members of their teams.
Charismatic Leadership: Charismatic leaders inspire followers through their personal charm, vision, and charisma. They have a strong influence on their teams and can create a sense of shared mission.
Trait and Skills Theory: This modern approach combines trait-based leadership research with the development of leadership skills. It recognizes that while certain traits are beneficial, leadership can also be learned and developed.
Ethical Leadership: Ethical leadership places a strong emphasis on moral and ethical principles. Ethical leaders act with integrity, model ethical behavior, and make ethical decisions.
Distributed Leadership: This perspective suggests that leadership is not the sole responsibility of one individual but can be distributed among team members. It emphasizes shared leadership and collaboration.
Adaptive Leadership: Adaptive leaders focus on facilitating change and guiding organizations or teams through challenges. They encourage flexibility and innovation.
These are just a few examples of the many leadership theories and models. Leadership scholars and practitioners often draw from multiple theories to adapt their leadership approach to specific situations and contexts.

here’s my pro tip
everyone keeps pushing computer science without recognizing that the field is quickly becoming oversaturated. If you love CS, than sure, do that. But if you’re looking for a really marketable degree that will let you do CS but also leave the door open for other stem careers, then I highly recommend computer engineering or electrical engineering with a CS minor (optional - have an ee degree without a minor and I still work in software). You can still get a software job if you want, with the added bonus that a lot of CS people will think you’re a wizard for having a working knowledge of hardware. And as software jobs get harder to find and get, you can diversify and apply for hardware jobs. And the hardware jobs will be easier to get if you know how to code. Also, circuits are really fucking cool guys.

i think eventually we’re going to have to find a way to appropriately and realistically engage with young people who are publicly learning new information, because everyone is on board with the concept of “after a certain point you can’t blame ignorance on education you have to take responsibility and seek information out” but then when kids lack the foundation or framework to then analyze and synthesize that information it’s too easy to sit back and say stupid gen z the youth are doomed!!!!!!! especially when those same kids are - for better or for worse - working through their ignorance in a public forum.
like we either have to swallow our knee-jerk reaction to their lack of understanding and offer guidance when we’re able, or we have to have a bigger conversation about what it means to become radicalized or introduced to leftist spaces when you don’t have a strong background in how to interact with new information/facts and when information is spread through Trends like a new pair of shoes. i know that wailing about how we think the youth are wandering into bigotry traps or don’t know how to verify information or whatever is like. standard but. i do remember what it felt like when every new thing i learned required that i readjust my entire worldview and how i accepted things and thought critically about things, and there is a way to extend that grace to people who have the unfortunate impulse to document their journey out of stupidity online without catastrophizing.
and again i guess the context changes for each person as everyone is being fed different videos/articles about The Youth(tm) and their habits but personally i have been so uplifted by the massive amount of young people who are trying to learn (and unlearn) an enormous amount of information in a very small amount of time, especially considering that many of these people (again, that i have personally seen) are doing so without the support of the adults in their lives or often their peers. and trying to do that within a hive mind echochamber in public is HARD and i guess i just think there are more beneficial ways to react to sensationalized accounts of what they’re doing and how they’re reacting than just like. assuming worst case scenarios for entire generations of people
. especially when we know the people who are used as examples in articles etc are always going to be the dumbest and most controversial

Spring Boot Interview Questions: Prepare for Success
Spring Boot has become one of the most popular frameworks in the Java ecosystem, streamlining robust and scalable web application development. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or just getting started, acing a Spring Boot interview can be a significant milestone in your career. To help you prepare effectively, here are the latest Spring Boot interview questions that will test your knowledge and give you a deeper understanding of how the framework works. These questions will be beneficial if you're pursuing a Spring Boot Certification Training Course at eMexo Technologies, in Electronic City Bangalore.
1. What is Spring Boot, and how is it different from Spring Framework?
This is a fundamental question that often appears in Spring Boot interviews. Spring Boot is an extension of the Spring Framework to simplify the development process. It eliminates the need for extensive XML configuration and provides default configurations to facilitate rapid application development. Spring Framework requires developers to configure components manually, while Spring Boot auto-configures them.
By understanding this, you can highlight how Spring Boot training in Electronic City Bangalore at eMexo Technologies helps developers focus more on writing business logic rather than dealing with complex configurations.
2. What are the main features of Spring Boot?
Spring Boot stands out due to several features:
Auto-Configuration: Automatically configures your application based on the libraries on the classpath.
Embedded Servers: It allows the deployment of web applications on embedded servers like Tomcat, Jetty, and Undertow.
Spring Boot Starters: Pre-configured templates that simplify dependency management.
Spring Boot CLI: A command-line interface that allows you to develop Spring applications quickly.
Actuator: Monitors and manages application performance.
These features make Spring Boot an attractive option for developers, which is why the best Spring Boot training institute in Electronic City Bangalore emphasizes hands-on experience with these functionalities.
3. What is the role of @SpringBootApplication in Spring Boot?
The @SpringBootApplication annotation is a core part of Spring Boot, often referred to as the ‘meta-annotation.’ It is a combination of three annotations:
@Configuration: Marks the class as a configuration class for Spring Beans.
@EnableAutoConfiguration: Enables Spring Boot’s auto-configuration feature.
@ComponentScan: Scans the components within the specified package.
This annotation is crucial to understanding Spring Boot’s internal architecture and its ability to simplify configuration.
4. What is Spring Boot Starter, and how is it useful?
A Spring Boot Starter is a set of pre-configured dependencies that simplify the inclusion of libraries in your project. For instance, spring-boot-starter-web includes everything you need for web development, like Spring MVC, embedded Tomcat, and validation support.
Starters save a lot of time, as they eliminate the need to find and include individual dependencies manually. When studying at eMexo Technologies, you’ll get an in-depth look at the variety of Spring Boot Starters available and their importance in building scalable applications.
5. What is a Spring Boot Actuator, and how is it used?
Spring Boot Actuator provides production-ready features to help monitor and manage your Spring Boot application. It offers a wide array of tools like health checks, metrics, and auditing endpoints. The actuator allows you to easily monitor application performance, which is a crucial aspect of microservices-based applications.
6. What are Microservices, and how does Spring Boot help in building them?
Microservices are small, independent services that work together in a larger application. Each service is responsible for a specific business functionality and can be developed, deployed, and maintained independently. Spring Boot simplifies the development of microservices by providing tools like Spring Cloud and Spring Boot Actuator.
7. How does Spring Boot handle dependency injection?
Dependency Injection (DI) is a key feature of the Spring Framework, and Spring Boot uses it to manage object creation and relationships between objects automatically. In Spring Boot, DI is usually handled through annotations like @Autowired, @Component, and @Service.
8. How can you configure a Spring Boot application?
Spring Boot applications can be configured in multiple ways:
application.properties or application.yml files.
Using the @Configuration classes.
Via command-line arguments.
Environment variables.
9. What are profiles in Spring Boot, and how are they used?
Profiles in Spring Boot allow developers to create different configurations for different environments. For example, you can have one profile for development, one for testing, and one for production. You can specify which profile to use by setting it in the application.properties file or as a command-line argument.
10. What are the limitations of Spring Boot?
Despite its many benefits, Spring Boot has some limitations:
Lack of control over auto-configuration can sometimes lead to unexpected behaviors.
Increased memory usage due to embedded servers.
Limited flexibility in large-scale applications that require extensive custom configuration.
Addressing these limitations demonstrates that you have a well-rounded understanding of the framework and can make informed decisions about when and where to use it.
11. How does Spring Boot handle security?
Spring Boot simplifies security through Spring Security, which can be easily integrated into your application. By adding the spring-boot-starter-security dependency, you can configure authentication and authorization in a few lines of code. You can also customize login, registration, and session management features.
12. What is the role of the Spring Initializr in Spring Boot?
The Spring Initializr is an online tool used to generate Spring Boot projects. It allows developers to choose the dependencies and configuration options before downloading the skeleton code. This tool speeds up the initial setup phase, saving time and effort.
In conclusion, being well-prepared for Spring Boot interviews is crucial, especially in a competitive job market. Whether you're taking a Spring Boot course in Electronic City Bangalore or aiming for Spring Boot Certification Training, knowing these key concepts will give you the edge you need. At eMexo Technologies, you’ll receive hands-on training, not just theory, preparing you to answer interview questions and excel in your career confidently.
