One pretty funny thing about deeply overanalysing Doctor Who's CGI for mapping projects is starting to see the gaps where the VFX artists took shortcuts.
For example, I've previously pointed out that in the TV Movie intro, Skaro's surface is actually half a texture that's been mirrored (which was a bit irritating when trying to use that as a source):

However turns out New Who isn't above it either!
I've been reviewing my mapping of the Lungbarrow barn/Drylands area, stiching together the surroundings from the Hell Bent location filming to try and reconcile it with the DotD version, plus some new info I discovered in the novelisation. Check out these two shots stitched together:
Tumblr media
Notice the clouds? When the VFX artists did the sky replacement, they clearly just used the same texture/rendering and flipped it for these two shots!
I suspect they did so elsewhere too (which can be justifiable if the camera is pointing approx. the same way and the sky is unmirrored), but it was most obvious here, with these two mirrored shots right next to each other. Obviously it's nothing awful, just a funny discovery.
By the way, if you're wondering what the full analysis looks like at the moment, since I'm probably not going to post it seperately:

We're hardwired to exert ourselves beyond burnout, to rise before occasions that ask us to rely on whatever reserves needed to survive. An inception that would forever shape the Dalek identity.
A natural tendency, hard fashioned into a cage, duty bound never to break free.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the dub of “space nazis” its mainly served as a very* thin basis of their fascist dogma. The fear of annihilation and the drive for self-preservation is universal. It’s more than propaganda.
Tumblr media
The implicit connection to nazism conveys how pointlessly futile their ideology is, rather than a one to one mirror. The Kaleds were people who had the opportunity to decide whether or not be genocidal despots, but their fascistic culture ensured that anyone who was caught fighting against oppression would be silenced into submission.
But unlike Kaleds, Daleks aren't people, they are sentient space squids which were bred for the totality of war, their worldview isn’t a mere statement it’s an impassioned belief. This totalitarian society doesn't require thought police as they already mythologise their own delusions, thereby trapping them in a forever war, refusing to evolve or adapt.
A "dislike of the unlike" stripped down into its most basic, uniformity in design and belief.
The instinctual need to other themselves, to hold some superficial status, an unyielding parody with no footing in reality. Incapable of living in the absence of hatred by virtue of being put through a system which only allows the expression of language through hate. An endless craving.

Hey Everyone, I apologise for being so absent on here, with both the lack of Fanart and activity- My Bachelor of Animation Course is super busy and I’ve been putting all my focus and work into doing the best possible job in this course.
I’m busy working on a mini DM-664 inner monologue Comic, though I’m not sure when I’ll have it completed but I am working on it! With university being the top priority it might be a while away✨
Unfortunately I don’t have much else to share other then some 3tsy related stuff-
I have self funded and created some special DM-664 p!ns to celebrate my 21st birthday on April 10 which are up for pre-order at the moment!
I’m also working on a Chaggie collaboration p!n with @lucedragondesign on Instagram too which is available on their Sh0p!
Anyways! Thanks for reading and I hope to post more proper art soon! 💙💙

In light of @rassilon-imprimatur's discovery, here's every iteration of Terry Nation's Dalography map to date:
The Dalek Book (30 Jun 1964)
The Dalek Pocketbook and Space-Traveller's Guide (7 Oct 1965)
Terry Nation's Dalek Annual 1979 (Sep 1978)
ダレク族の逆襲! / The Dalek Race's Counter Attack! [ie. Day of the Daleks] (15 Aug 1980)
Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe (26 Oct 2017)
Some map elements also appear from another perspective in "The Strata of Skaro" from The Dalek Outer-Space Book (8 Sep 1966)
Tumblr media
Interestingly, looking at these it becomes obvious that the map in The Dalek Race's Counter Attack! is actually based on the 1979 Dalek Annual, released almost 2 years earlier, rather than one of the original Dalekmania tie-in books. Coastlines match up far better between them and both use a West-East orientation for the map. They both also expand a bit more from the original map margins, revealing areas like the top of Southern Dalazar in the bottom right of the image.
By comparion, Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe clearly seems to have gone back to the original design, though we do see some changes. For example, for some reason the Island of Gushing Gold has now become a peninsula off of Darren. There also does seem to be a bit of the same easterly curving of Southern Dalazar, though this may or may not be a coincidence.
