screenshot from an article that reads, Eccleston's perhaps wasn't the most likable Doctor that fans have seen over the years, nor did he offer up the over-the-top campiness that many had come to expect from the character. The grit and volatility
and the screenshot cuts off.
Immediately after the screenshot, the original poster shares a gif of Jason Momoa with shoulder-length brown hair and sunglasses, holding a microphone. he's seated between a table and a ComicCon display wall, then he stands up and tosses the microphone's cord out of his way while beginning to walk around the table, like he's going to approach someone. He expression is deadpan and unchanging the whole time. The gif is subtitled with his dialogue, No, no, no. By all means, speak your mind. You got a problem with my boy?
after sixties-doctor-who-stan's reblog addition, tumblr user dread-queen-persephone comments, Nine's unlikable?? then says in all capitals, YOU'RE UNLIKABLE!! next is a comment from tumblr user ellavrena, starting all in capitals, WHAT SHOW WERE THEY EVEN WATCHJNG [sic]. they continue in lower case, commenting, how dare they try to insinuate my big eared boi wasn't inherently camp af??????

Some of my Ford Pines Thoughts/Headcanons:
- I personally perceive him as neurodivergent to some extent, if I were give him a specific label, I would be inclined to say that he’s possibly autistic.
- Absolutely has a kill count & is not proud of it. Only occasionally brings this up around Stanley & Fiddleford.
- Was initially in denial of but ultimately comes to realize the extent of how messed up his childhood was, especially regarding Filbrick’s mistreatment of him & Stanley. Eventually he confides in Stan, who later comes to the same realization.
- Like Stan, he is deeply traumatized & likely has PTSD. He doesn’t really come to terms with this, however, until after the events of the show, when, for the first time in about thirty years, he isn’t living on “fight or flight” mode. His symptoms primarily manifest in bouts of insomnia & paranoia. He & Stan seek out counseling at some point.
- Shortly after Stan was kicked out Ford sobbed viscerally out of both anger at Stan & grief in losing him, with this being one of the few instances of him crying in his life.
- Was extremely lonely & depressed in the time between Stanley’s departure & his first day at university due to Stan being his only genuine friend prior to meeting Fiddleford.
- Has like zero innate fashion sense, got his entire wardrobe inspiration from Carl Sagan.
- Is a virgin up into his sixties. However, he did get close to losing his virginity once in college with Fiddleford, but they were both too awkward & inexperienced to actually go through with it. (I’m open to this being negated though, I could see Ford getting up to some stuff while traveling between dimensions.)
- In college he would pull all-nighters, staying up as late as humanly possible studying while Fiddleford, being accustomed to rising early, would either inadvertently awaken him or find him studying half-asleep hours before classes started, much to his chagrin. This dynamic is swapped when Fiddleford comes to Gravity Falls to research with Ford.
- Has developed a subconscious habit of concealing his hands when around others, particularly when around strangers. Tends to either hide them behind his back or in his pockets.
- Is a very skilled pianist but seldom plays the piano. Starts playing it more when at Fiddleford’s mansion, sometimes even resulting in them having duets.
- Has nerve damage as well as extensive scarring & burn marks that litter his body. (He should probably go to a doctor too…)
- Is always chiding Stan & Fiddleford about maintaining their physical health, especially in response to their tobacco usage, yet is habitually neglectful of his own health & hygiene.
- Incapable of driving anywhere both during his research period (car was destroyed) & when he returns to Gravity Falls (expired license & technically doesn’t legally exist). Either walks everywhere (which he enjoys, especially when taking scenic walks in the woods w/ Stan & Fiddleford) or, if necessary, is driven around by Stanley (dreads riding w/ Stan & constantly chastises him for his reckless driving, is the living embodiment of a backseat driver).
- Always sleeps on the top bunk of his & Stan’s bunkbed, both as a child & while at sea on the Stan o’ War II. Seldom does he actually climb down from the bed however, instead opting to jump down from the top bunk in the most overly-dramatic fashion possible, much to Stan’s chagrin.
- Despite being raised Jewish (most likely either Conservative or Reform Jewish) he is not religiously affiliated in adulthood & began distancing himself from Judaism shortly after attending university. Has friendly religious debates/existential discussions w/ Fiddleford, who is deeply connected to his faith in Christianity. Despite that, they respect one another’s beliefs & like being able to hear an alternative perspective.
- Although Ford & Stan were never required to adhere to a kosher diet, they were still somewhat discouraged from eating pork specifically & were never served it at home. The first time Ford tries it is when Fiddleford shares some with him some in college, which he ends up loving.
- Has recurring nightmares about Bill, the most distressing of which are not the ones involving him being tortured or physically abused but the ones that are most reminiscent of when he still had a friendly relationship with Bill, with those dreams feeling pleasant, recapturing how Bill made him feel when initially inside his mind.
- Tries his hardest to assist Stanley & Fiddleford with their memory loss & any other longterm damage from use of the memory gun. Actively encourages them to utilize memory exercises & prioritize their physical & cognitive health.
- Mutters to himself under his breath a lot, thinks no one can hear him. Prone to this whenever flustered.
- Refuses to openly admit it but had a serious celebrity crush on Nikola Tesla & later Carl Sagan. Tried to emulate them as much as humanly possible while a teenager/young adult. Still admires them deeply.
- Had a friendly competition w/ Fiddleford in college over who could perform better academically in their shared classes. Ford typically studied harder yet consistently performed marginally worse than Fiddleford in all of their STEM classes as Ford would, on average, score ~95-99%, Fiddleford would somehow get bonus points on virtually every test & average ~105-110%. Ford never fully got over this.

Magneto: A Biographical Timeline, 1963-1991
Tumblr media
Magneto just might be one of the most iconic comic book antagonists of all time. He was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and started out as the X-Men’s deadliest foe. Not much is revealed about Magneto through the 60’s but when author Chris Claremont takes over writing the X-Men starting in 1975 he began to develop the character and give him a complex backstory. Magneto quickly started his journey to being a hero and by the 80’s he was no longer a foe of the X-Men, but an ally, and eventually the leader of the Xavier Institute. After corporate meddling forced Magneto back into an antagonistic role in the 90’s, Magneto was eventually killed off and Claremont was fired. This was the end of a cohesive story and trajectory for the character.
Magneto’s backstory has become murky in the years since. The wiki pages (both fan wikis and wikipedia) often take the angle of attempting to synthesize everything ever said about the character into one cohesive story. That, of course, isn’t very helpful when there’s been sixty years of contradictory information and continual reboots – both hard and soft – of the character, his relationships and his backstory. Even his name has come to be muddled with every few years someone deciding to give him a new one. Below, I’ve compiled a list of all the relevant biographical details as they appeared in print from 1963 – 1991. This is a comprehensive overview of the character during his most iconic storylines, many of which have gone on to be adapted to both television and film.
I have included links to relevant historical information at various points as well as to an excellent 2018 documentary, available on YouTube so be sure to check that out as well.

Charles thinks that “Magneto and I are uncomfortably alike.”
October
Uncanny X-Men (1963) #150 “I, Magneto” by Chris Claremont
Magneto learns of Jean Grey’s death and says that he grieves for her. He states “I know… something of grief. Search throughout my homeland, you will find none who bear my name. Mine was a large family, and it was slaughtered.”
Magneto speaks to the crew of the Soviet submarine Leningrad in Russian.
Magneto keeps his computer programming book written in a language neither Kitty nor Storm (Ororo Munroe) can read.
Later, after a fateful confrontation with the X-Men, Magneto thinks he’s killed Kitty Pryde. He is gripped with remorse saying “What have I done?!” and “Why did you not understand? Magda – my beloved wife – did not understand. When she saw me use my powers, she ran from me in terror. It did not matter that I was defending her… that I was avenging our murdered daughter. I swore then that I would not rest ‘til I had created a world where my kind – mutants – could live free and safe and unafraid. Where such as you, little one could be happy. Instead I have slain you. I remember my own childhood – the gas chambers as Auschwitz, the guards joking as they herded my family to their death. As our lives were nothing to them, so human lives became nothing to me.” (This is the first time Anya is mentioned even if she is not yet named, as well as the first time that Magneto is mentioned to be a Holocaust and Auschwitz survivor.)
Storm tells Magneto to pray to his deity as she intends to kill him for hurting Kitty. Magneto replies “As a boy, I believed. As a boy, I turned my back on God forever.”
When Storm suggests that his good dreams have been corrupted, Magneto insists that he is too old to change and has lived with his hatred too long.
Afterward, Charles offers that Magneto “Will emerge from this crucible the good man he once was and may yet be again.”

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #161 “Gold Rush” by Chris Claremont
The narrative tells us the following took place twenty years ago placing these events around 1962.
Charles recalls meeting Magneto long ago in Israel when he went there to help treat Holocaust survivors.
Magneto is a volunteer at the hospital where Charles is working.
Magneto is introduced as Magnus, no last name is given.
Magneto reveals that he grew up in Auschwitz and states that “I have no family, Dr. Xavier. Anymore.”
The Auschwitz prisoner number tattooed on Magneto’s arm is revealed to be 214782.
The doctor Charles is working with says most of the volunteers were concentration camp survivors who “bring a degree of empathy to their work that the rest of us can’t match.”
Charles and Magneto grow close during their time together despite different views on the future of humans and mutants.
They also become close with Charles’ patient, Gaby Haller who is suffering severe psychic trauma from her experiences during the Holocaust.
Charles eventually comes to realize that “in many ways, Magnus has been as deeply scarred by his experiences as Gaby.”
Charles and Gaby start dating.
Eventually Charles and Magneto reveal to each other that they are mutants.
Charles and Magneto go to Kenya to rescue Gaby, who has been kidnapped by Hydra.
Magneto tells the Hydra leader, Baron Strucker, “You will find me considerably harder to slay than your countrymen did my family at Auschwitz.” and “Unfortunately, my power did not manifest itself ‘til I reached adulthood. By then the war was over. But had I possessed it in the camps, butcher, the tyranny of your Third Reich would have been ended overnight!”
They rescue Gaby and part ways still ultimately disagreeing about means and ends because of the violent methods Magneto used against Hydra.
Magneto flies off with an enormous stash of Nazi gold plundered from Hydra.
Until he disguises himself as Hydra, Magneto only wears white throughout the issue.

Marvel Graphic Novel #5 “X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills” by Chris Claremont
(This story is a stand-alone story, it doesn’t really get mentioned in the regular Uncanny X-Men timeline or referenced anywhere else, unlike the Dazzler graphic novel published in the same line. That does not necessarily mean it is out of continuity, just that it doesn’t ever get called back to during Claremont’s further writing.)
Magneto joins forces with the X-Men to save Charles from Reverend Stryker and prevent his anti-mutant genocide. He tells Cyclops “I am not your enemy, X-Men, nor do I consider you mine.”
Cyclops presses Magneto about his plan to become world dictator and Magneto replies “I have lived under a dictatorship… and seen my family butchered by its servants. When I rule, it will be for the betterment of all.” Cyclops asks who takes over after Magneto dies, Magneto responds “You, of course, Cyclops. And the X-Men. Why do you think I want you by my side?”
Charles refers to Magneto as Magnus.
Magneto asks Charles to join him and his cause after they defeat Stryker, and though tempted, Charles ultimately refuses holding on to his dream of human/mutant integration.
Magneto parts ways with the X-Men despite them asking him to stay.

February

Magneto asks Pietro and Wanda to accept him into their lives.

Magneto pleads with her to give him a chance. He tells Lee how Magda left him after learning he was a mutant. “My wife, Magda, had such a look on her face – I had saved us both from a marauding patrol of secret police, yet all she saw was that I had used super-powers to do it. In that moment, I became different – our love meant nothing. I was no longer human. I was a mutant, a thing. She ran from me, in terror. I never saw her again. Never knew – until much later, far too late – that she had borne my children. Don’t – please Lee, don’t you run from me, too. I cannot bear to be alone and I am sick at heart at the realization of what I have become. Help me, Lee, I… beg you. I need you.” (In this telling there is no mention of Anya, only a reference to the twins – Wanda and Pietro)

Kitty remarks that Magneto has the makings of a hero and Magneto replies “No. I am no hero, merely a man… who has seen and done and endured what can never be forgotten… or forgiven.”
November

Magneto reveals that he knew Kitty’s aunt at Auschwitz. He also runs into some friends, other survivors who were at Auschwitz with him. They remark that Magneto helped to save them, and many others. (One could read this conversation as implying Magneto was Polish by nationality)
Magneto’s friends state that he had been in Auschwitz “from the very start.”
Neither of his friends use his name during the conversation.
Mystique and the Freedom Force arrest Magneto for the US Government. Magneto surrenders himself into their custody.
December

The New Mutants are skeptical of Magneto, but Magneto asks them to give him a chance. He says that both he and Charles view this as a way of “putting things right” after all the evil he has done in his life.
Magneto has doubts about his ability to run the institute.
Magneto wishes Lee were with him, but she’s running her ship. Magneto misses her which surprises him because Magneto “thought I was beyond such caring.”
Lee wrote Magneto a letter telling him that she loved him and calling him darling.
Mirage (Dani Moonstar) is attacked on her way home from town and once Mirage is safe, Magneto finds the attackers. He destroys their house and threatens “Once, with far less cause, I would quite cheerfully have slain you – rent your bodies limb from limb as easily as I did your house. Indeed, I am sorely tempted. The world would not miss such as you. But I am older, a littler sadder – and I hope, wiser. I have learned a better way.” and “Mine is the power to destroy – but I choose not to. Profit from my example. The evil you do others returns unto you a thousandfold – it scars both body and, far worse, soul. Continue down this cruel and bloody road you’ve chosen and one day, you’re certain to meet one not as forgiving as I. Is that what you want? The choice, as ever, remains your own.”
Mirage’s attackers turn themselves into the police.

Wanda invites Magneto to her thanksgiving dinner but ultimately tells him that he will have to prove himself before she’ll accept him into her life.
Magneto takes responsibility for being a bad father. (the author doesn’t write consistently on if Magneto knew he was the twins’ father or not, he also doesn’t seem to care if Pietro has any hard feelings about Magneto, Wanda is the only one who counts. Also, he has Magneto call pregnant Wanda hysterical for no reason, just fyi.)
April
New Mutants (1983) #38 “Aftermath!” by Chris Claremont

May
New Mutants (1983) #39 “Pawns of the White Queen” by Chris Claremont
Magneto goes into a spiral after sending the majority of the New Mutants away to Emma’s school, Mirage and Warlock being the only students who didn’t go. Mirage criticizes Magneto for not doing more before leaving to go back to her family.
Magneto swims.
Magneto shaves with a straight razor.
Magneto learns that he was manipulated into letting the New Mutants go to Emma’s school. Magneto proclaims Emma “Will learn – very soon and to her eternal sorrow – the Magneto is not a man… to have as one’s enemy!”
Emma alerts the police, telling them that Magneto is attempting to abduct her students knowing that the Avenger’s will try and stop him.

Magneto has a conversation with Warlock reminding him to never take someone’s “lifeglow” aka their life force which would kill them.
The Avengers battle Magneto who tries to keep Warlock safe and not harm the Avengers. He attempts to explain himself but the Avengers refuse to listen. Captain America tells Magneto of Namor’s heroism during WWII, Magneto replies saying “How fortunate for him, Captain. At the time, I was but a victim of that self-same tyranny. Then, I lacked the strength to win my freedom – and save the lives of those I held dear – but Never Again!” Magneto insists that he has “learned a better way” and is no longer a villain.
The New Mutants rally together and come to Magneto’s aid giving Captain America pause to reflect that the Avengers have welcomed other reformed villains, why shouldn’t they also welcome Magneto.
Magneto and Emma work together to heal the New Mutants’ psychic shock. Emma “made their minds whole… but not their hearts, or souls. Now, at last, with their teachers’ help and support, they have faced their nightmares… and dealt with them… each in their own way.” Emma remarks that Magneto was able to reach the New Mutants on a deeper level which made a “crucial difference.”

Fantastic Four vs. the X-Men (1987) #1 “Are You Sure?!” by Chris Claremont
(This miniseries dovetails into the regular Uncanny X-Men timeline and even though it runs concurrently with the similarly titled “The X-Men vs. the Avengers (1987)” these stories are not overlapping timeline wise and the events of the Fantastic Four miniseries only makes sense to have concluded before the Avengers miniseries begins.)
Kitty is in need of high tech medical care to resolidify herself after being stuck in a permanent phase. Without help she will eventually dissipate. Magneto goes to seek help from Reed Richards.
The Fantastic Four are suspicious of Magneto but agree to help.
Upon arriving at Moira’s Muir Island research facility, Reed has second thoughts and declines to help for fear he could outright kill Kitty accidentally. Magneto insists that he at least try and even attempts to steal Richards’ machine to use it himself, but the Fantastic Four thwart this plan and the X-Men are left without hope for Kitty.
New Mutants (1983) #48 “Ashes of the Heart” by Chris Claremont
Magneto is alone at the Mansion, the New Mutants having disappeared and by many are presumed dead.
Magneto goes through each New Mutant’s room and tidies it with the help of little robots he calls widgets.
Stevie Hunter, the school PE teacher, tells Magneto he should give up and face reality that the New Mutants are dead. Magneto tells her “I’ve come to know these children, and… care for them. Whatever I was, Stevie – whatever I become – they mean too much to me… to abandon them.”

New Mutants (1983) #49 “Ashes of the Soul” by Chris Claremont
Magneto has a dream of when his family was killed by the German death squads known as the Einsatzgruppen.
It is spring time. A small group of people are gathered in front of a pit in the countryside.
Magneto is depicted as a young, black-haired boy, perhaps 10 years old, wearing short pants and long socks.
Magneto’s sister appears to be two or three years older than him.
German soldiers fire at the group of people killing all save Magneto. Without understanding what happens, Magneto’s powers manifest enough to spare him from death, “His mind burns, power he never dreamed existed coming alive.”
He is buried with his family and the rest of the victims, but since he did not die he climbs out of the pit.
Magneto is depicted breaking through the earth to the shock of the German soldiers. Magneto’s black hair has turned white.
Magneto wakes from his memory-dream thinking “So long ago, so far away. Yet the memories are still vivid. Every detail, etched with acid. My power – my mastery over magnetism – first manifested itself that morning. It saved me, why wouldn’t it do the same for those I loved?! The Germans were so astonished by my survival, the decided to spare my life. I was sent instead to a concentration camp. Auschwitz. Sometimes, I wish I hadn’t struggled so hard.”
Magneto wonders if his dream is a harbinger of mutantkind’s eventual fate.
Magneto is still undecided about joining the Hellfire Club thinking “If we stand alone, we could be destroyed. If I accept this alliance… we could be destroyed! The choice is mine – the responsibility is mine – but I don’t know what to do!”

June
Fantastic Four vs. the X-Men (1987) #4 “A Matter of Faith” by Chris Claremont
Magneto confides in Storm his feelings of helplessness to do anything to save Kitty. He reflects on his past saying “Roughly five hundred miles in that direction is Auschwitz – the Nazi death camp – where my parents and sister were murdered. I should have died with them. And due west from Latveria is the Soviet city of Vinnitsa. There was a fire. I was injured saving my wife. My daughter remained trapped in the burning building. She was much like Kitty, my Anya. The most beautiful of children – two years old, Ororo, and she never cried. She only laughed – with wonder and joy – as though life was some magnificent adventure, staged for her alone.” (There is some contradiction between this telling and the others, some of the details change as ideas are developed even though the story remains wholly the same.)
He goes on to say “She burned, Storm! My power was weaker then. I used it to save my wife, but couldn’t reach Anya. A crowd had gathered. I begged for help. They refused me. They saw I was a mutant and some called for me to be hurled into the same flames that consumed my child. Too late – in rage and a grief that ravages me still – I came at last to my birthright: the absolute control over the forces and manifestations of magnetism that is the power of… Magneto! Magda… was so terrified of my power… and how I wielded it… that she fled from me. How different, I wonder, would the pathway of my life have been if she had not? In that awful moment, Storm, I lost everything.” (This telling of the story does not include the secret police)
Magneto tells Storm that he feels he is forever haunted by his past saying that people insist on seeing him as a villain even though he’s changed. He reflects that maybe he should have gone back to finish his trial.
Reed Richards finally comes to help them save Kitty and later Magneto and Richards make peace with each other.

The X-Men vs. the Avengers (1987) #4 “Day of Judgment” by Tom DeFalco
Magneto surrenders himself to the Avengers and agrees to finish his trial before the World Court.
Gaby Haller once again acts as his defense attorney.
Magneto uses his helmet and advanced technology circuits to influence the chief justice to rule in his favor. It is unclear, however, if he actually was able to influence the judge or if the judge ruled in Magneto’s favor of his own volition. The court declares it has no jurisdiction over Magneto.

Classic X-Men (1986) #12 by Chris Claremont
(Classic X-Men reprinted earlier Claremont X-Men stories but added new material (sometimes individual pages, sometimes additional short stories) to fill out the issue and tie into current comic continuity. Claremont wrote both the original X-Men issue that was being reprinted and the new material that was added.)
(New material that takes place directly after Uncanny X-Men (1963) #104)
Magneto is asleep not long after being resurrected by Eric the Red. He is dreaming “As always, the dream begins with Auschwitz… and Magda. More than a million people died in this camp. And with World War II ending – the Third Reich defeated – it’s guards wanted no witnesses left… to tell the tale of this horror.”
Magneto prevents a camp guard from killing Magda, then takes the guard’s gun and runs away with Magda.
Magneto is said to have “been here from the start… grown to manhood within its electrified barbed wire fence. If he was to die, it would not be in this abattoir… and not without a fight!”
Magneto and Magda run into the wilderness, eventually escaping into the Carpathian Mountains where they eventually settle and begin to build a life together. The page shows Magneto felling a tree, learning woodworking, studying, Magneto socializing with friends at a dinner table, getting married to Magda and cuddling his wife and newborn daughter, Anya.
Magneto is described as having “an insatiable hunger for knowledge, coupled with a wildfire intelligence” so eventually “he bade the village farewell and took his family eastward, into the Soviet Union, hoping to win a place at university” (This suggests that Magneto was living in a village in the Polish side of the Carpathians)
Magneto, Magda and Anya come to the “city of Vinnitsa, the biggest they’d ever seen.” (This suggests that Magneto and Magda came from a rural village or town before being sent to Auschwitz)
Magneto leaves his wife and daughter to go find work.
Anya is depicted as a child between 4-6 years old.
Magneto’s powers first manifest when he has a disagreement with another man. Magneto realizes the powers come from himself and isn’t sure what to make of it.
Magneto returns to the inn where he and his family are staying since this is their first day in the city. The inn is on fire and Anya is trapped on the second floor of the building.
Magda is in the building trying to save their daughter, Magneto uses his powers to get her to safety.
Magneto curses in Russian.
Magneto attempts to get to Anya but is prevented by secret police who are trying to arrest him for his earlier disagreement.
Anya dies in the fire, Magneto’s powers break loose killing those around him save for Magda.
Magda is terrified by what she just witnessed and runs away from Magneto.
Magneto wakes from his dream and uses his powers to save a nearby mother and child from a fire.
Magneto speaks French.

Magneto goes to the infirmary where Doug’s body is laying. He pulls back the sheet covering Doug and looks at the boy thinking “Curse you Charles Xavier, for putting me in this position! I have no rapport with these children. Observe the bitter fruit of my labors!” Magneto kneels at the side of the table where Doug lays and weeps over his body. “An ill wind is coming… they are registering mutants like the once registered my people in Poland…! Who knows what horrors await us. But they are only children. How can they possibly understand… any of this.” (This suggests Magneto is Polish by birth)

(New material presented in the form of a backflash that takes place at some point after the Uncanny X-Men (1963) #161 story which details Charles and Magneto meeting for the first time. This story suggests that these events take place shortly before Uncanny X-Men #1 when the X-Men face Magneto for the first time in 1963.)
Magneto single-handedly takes out a secret Nazi base in South America and captures Oberstrumbanführer Hans Richter to be taken back to Israel and put on trial.
After using his powers, Magneto suffers from debilitating psychic pain “Worse than the bite of the kapo’s whip, the murder of parents and family. The death of a child. The loss of a beloved wife. It passes quickly leaving him alive – and almost wishing he wasn’t.” Magneto observes that “These seizures strike now whenever I use my powers. More extreme my usage, more debilitating the attack.”
Magneto reports of the captured Nazi to a group called only “Control” (This seems to be a stand in for a Mossod style organization.)
Two weeks later, in Rio de Janiero, Magneto reads an article about Charles Xavier and wonders if he shouldn’t reconnect with him and seek help for his psychic attacks.
A woman in a bikini and sarong approaches Magneto asking why he’s dressed so formally in a suit and tie at a beach front cafe. Magneto replies “This, I’m afraid, is as uninhibited as I get.”
The woman turns out to be Magneto’s lover Isabelle, no last name is given.
Magneto recounts to Isabelle about how Anya died and Magda left him.
Control did not want Richter captured as he was a useful informant, so they send a squad to kill Isabelle and Magneto. They succeed in slaying Isabelle, but Magneto uses his powers to fight against them.
Magneto looks on Isabelle’s body completely disillusioned with humanity. The reader is told that “the dream dies… and the nightmare is born.”

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #253 “Storm Warnings” by Chris Claremont
Magneto and Moira quarrel on Muir Island about him parting ways with the X-Men, the New Mutants and the Xavier Institute.
Magneto is convinced “There is a war coming, Moira. And you are a fool if you do not see it. We mutants cannot be wished away, we are here on this earth, more and more born every day. There are those who will accept us, and those who fear us and seek our destruction. And, worst of all, those like Genoshans… who desire to exploit us for their own power and profit. We must be strong enough – as a people – to survive without the sufferance of the one or the aggression of the others. I mean to ensure that. I must – because there is no one else.”
Magneto tells Banshee “I am sorry things have to end like this – but I suspect it’s for the best. Some roads are better traveled alone.”
Magneto leaves.

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #274 “Crossroads” by Chris Claremont
Magneto narrates this issue: “All my life, I have been drawn to the wild and desolate places of the world. As a boy, I saw myself walking where no man ever had. Alone against the elements. The more I came to know of people… the more strongly that yearning dream spoke to me. As the fierce, unyielding emptiness without struck some resonant echo within my heart and soul. Yet for all of that… for all of life replete with it’s share and far more of rage and pain and suffering, as harshly given as endured… still I manage to find myself with allies. Who appear determined to stand by me, regardless. I wonder which are the greater fools: they for trying and trusting, or me for allowing it.”
Magneto is working with Ka-Zar and a depowered Rogue in the Savage Lands against the evil Zaladane.
When Rogue fights one of Zaladane’s goons, Magneto intervenes, thinking “I hear my daughter Anya scream as she burns before my eyes… hear Isabelle’s gasp of surprise as she is murdered… two I loved but were unable to save. Only avenge. It will not be that way with Rogue.”
Rogue presses Magneto to be merciful, saying “We’re the good guys, right?! We’re s’posed t’ stand for something better!” Magneto narrates “She actually believes that. Why can’t I? All I see is blood. That already spilled. That yet to be. I see my path so clearly. But I turn away.”
Magneto narrates “Later in my citadel, I reflect that ages ago – in what for me was another lifetime – I used my knowledge of genetics to mutate a band of swamp savages into super-powered beings. When they were no longer useful, I abandoned them to their fate, forgot their very existence. More of my past come back to haunt my present and threaten the future.” and in regards to his past as leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants “It is a goal I once had, in those long-gone days of madness, when I was reviled and condemned as a super-villain” and then later “My life’s ambition has been to safeguard my fellow mutants. Zaladane has no such compunction. And I hear the echo of Der Führer’s voice in the radio of memory, smell the awful stench of the sick and dying as the cattle cars brought the condemned to Auschwitz. I wear red, the color of blood, in tribute to their lost lives. And the harder I try to cast it aside, to find a gentler path… the more irresistibly I’m drawn back. I should have died myself, with those I loved. Instead, I carted the bodies by the hundred by the thousands… from the death house to the crematorium… and the ashes to the burial ground. Asking now what I could not then – why was I spared?! To bring others the death that passed me by?”
Magneto narrates on Zaladane “The more I come to know of her… the more I find myself trapped in a mirror… staring at a distorted vision of myself. Sleep is a mistake. But I’m so weary this once I can’t resist. Any more than I can hold at bay… the nightmares that come along. Flowers. Scent of growing things. Joyful sounds of life. So clear. So crisp, after more than half a century. Someone sobs. My sister holds tight my hand. My father still cannot believe this is happening. I hear laughter. The guns blaze, and I’m falling with the others. Into darkness. Loamy earth smell tainted by the acrid burning of lime. All of us pressed so tight together, embracing eternity. So easy to give up. Lie in my grave. Breathe my last. But I fight!” (This recounts the events around Magneto's family's death depicted in The New Mutants #49)
Rogue wakes Magneto and they share a moment before being interrupted by Ka-Zar. Magneto thinks “Am I imagining the sudden spark between us. Leaving Rogue as shaken as I? Leave well enough alone. I am pledged to another. As much as one can pledge a heart full of ghosts.”
Magneto narrates “I cannot recall a point in my life when I did not fight. Nor any longer of a time when war held the slightest horror for me.”
Magneto’s group is aided by Nick Fury’s group which includes the father of one of the Soviet sailors killed by Magneto on the submarine Leningrad. Magneto narrates “Again, a cry from the past. One father to another, in anguished grief for a slain child. At the time, my actions seemed quite appropriate. The Leningrad had fired a salvo of nuclear ballistic missiles at me, so I sank her, with all hands. Thinking of that crew not as people, but merely an object lesson: how dare they defy me, threaten me, these Russians whose countrymen let my daughter burn to death? There is too much history and hate between us. I cannot talk to these men.”

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #274 “The Path Not Taken” by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee
The Russian colonel guns down Magneto leading to him being captured by Zaladane. The colonel joins Zaladane. Zaladane uses a machine to try and transfer Magneto’s powers to herself. Under the influence of the machine Magneto narrates “Try as I might, I cannot stop this. And worst of all, as my life is torn from me, turned into a sideshow entertainment for the Brainchild’s sadistic pleasure… with my strength devoted wholly to that struggle, I have nothing left to block my emotional responses to the memories themselves. Once more, I hear myself howl ‘til my voice shatters at the sight of my daughter, Anya, burning to death before my eyes. Once more, hot blood mixes with salt tears as my beloved Isabelle’s throat is cut by those I thought my trusted friends. Once more, rage flashes through me… hand in hand with a terror I’d not felt since Auschwitz… as at last I confront the Shadow King. Followed by sick shame at the awful cost of my survival.”
Zaladane leaves Magneto with her minions. Rogue and her team have infiltrated Zaladanes stronghold and once Magneto realizes they are there, he strikes the minions unexpectedly. Magneto narrates “They think me beaten, finished. A mistake many have made in the past. As I found the strength, as a boy, to survive being machine gunned and buried alive, and later the unimaginable horror of Auschwitz… so do I find it in me, here and now, to break free.”
Magneto narrates “The primal, paramount lesson of my life is that I can depend on no one save myself.”
Magneto fights against the Russian colonel saying “I am sorry for your son, colonel. Which is more than I ever heard… for the slaughter of those I loved.” Colonel Semyanov says “Your… daughter you mean? And that absolves you of any crime?” Magneto replies “I never said it did. For who we are, and what we have done, comrade colonel… we are both of us condemned.”
Rogue and Magneto argue over how he intends to deal with Zaladane. Magneto says “The New Mutants were left in my charge and they suffered for it – because I tried to pattern myself after Charles Xavier. I am not Charles Xavier. I will never be Charles Xavier. I was a fool to try. As he was, for believing I could succeed. My people are in danger – more so now than ever before – from the Hellfire Club and their accursed Shadow Kind, from foul creatures such as this, perhaps even from the very United Nations which Colonel Fury loyally serves. And a kinder, gentler Magneto cannot save them.”
October
X-Men (1991) #1 “Rubicon” by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee
Magneto has established a mutant haven on a new Asteroid M. World governments are wary of it and the X-Men are dispatched to discover what’s going on.
Magneto raises the submarine Leningrad (which he sank in Uncanny X-Men #150) from the sea floor. He finds some of the nuclear missiles the submarine was carrying are intact.
Inside the submarine, Magneto finds himself sitting among the bones of the Leningrad’s crew. “Now though, at last, he finds himself face to face with the consequence of his acts. And he remembers another time, other bodies, bones still coated with the flesh of family and friends, tossed into a lime-soaked pit and him along with them, only he was still alive. Somehow, he clawed his way to the surface.” (This again refers to the account of Magneto's family's death in The New Mutants #49)
Rogue tells Magneto that his actions are scaring people. Magneto says “I tried my best to change, I did my best to follow Xavier’s path to a peaceful co-existence between Homo Sapiens and Homo Sapiens Superior. And paid for that folly with the blood of innocents.”
Later on Asteroid M, Magneto ruminates on his latest conflict with the X-Men thinking of Wolverine in particular “For the brief time I worked with the X-Men, he accepted me wholeheartedly. If not as a friend, then at least as a comrade-in-arms. Why then has he turned on me? What has changed? Why must blood always come between me and others?” (Magneto has been working with the X-Men and the New Mutants since 1985)
Radical mutant acolytes that have decided to follow Magneto, led by Fabian Cortez, fight with the X-Men. Magneto puts a stop to it and says “All my life, I have seen people slaughtered wholesale for no more reason than the deity they worshipped, or the color of their skin – or the presence in their DNA of an extra, special gene. I cannot change the world but I can – and will – ensure that my race will never again suffer for its fear and prejudice. Henceforth, I declare Asteroid M a sovereign world. Home and haven to mutantkind. If you are born Homo Sapiens Superior, then you are automatically a citizen, entitled to safe haven above and security below. Even you X-Men – even your mentor, my old friend, Charles Xavier – are welcome here. But mark this and mark it well – harm done against any mutant is harm done to me. And I shall respond accordingly.”

X-Men (1991) #2 “Firestorm” by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee
Beast says that the Genoshans are changing for the better, and asks why Magneto is going in the opposite direction. Magneto says “You know that answer, Beast… you would have to live my life. And I would not wish such a fate, even on my most hated enemy.”
Magneto abducts Charles and Moira looking for answers about his genetic structure. Moira admits that she saw there was a genetic instability in Magneto’s genetic matrix, and she tried to stabilize it when he was an infant in her care.
Magneto is infuriated that Moira conducted genetic experimentation on him in an attempt to change who he was. He questions every decision he’s made since his rebirth.
Moira is apologetic, but Magneto’s anger is unabated. He tells her “I heard those same rationales as a boy, in the Auschwitz death camp, from Dr. Josef Mengele himself!”
December
X-Men (1991) #3 “Fallout” by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee
Moira reveals that the genetic experimentation she did on baby Magneto didn’t work.
Moira also points out that Cortez has been using his power to weaken Magneto.
Cortex flees Asteroid M and fires a shot at the complex that will kill all the inhabitants.
Charles and the X-Men prepare to leave in their spacecraft, but Magneto refuses to leave with them instead choosing to stay on the asteroid to preserve its integrity as long as possible using his powers. He tells Charles “My life was shaped by forces and events none of you can possibly understand. You speak to the best of humanity. I have endured the worst. You imagine the reality of the Holocaust, of the Nazi death camps. I grew up in one. Perhaps, as you say, I am tainted by blood and rage – and death. But perhaps as well, that blood and rage and death comprise the armor that will sustain me and those who stand by me through the ordeal to come. The past is prologue, old friend. And the future I behold for you is… war. We have already chosen our path.”
Asteroid M blows up just as the X-Men escape. Charles tells them all “At the last… he opened his thoughts to me. He is still the man I remember from younger, happier days – who was my friend – and yet… none of that matters anymore, does it? ‘I save you, X-Men,’ he said, ‘because that is my task in life: to safeguard my people – Homo Sapiens Superior – mutantkind – from those who would do us harm. And those forces are legion. In that and I suspect nothing else, Charles, we are much alike. I have survived one Holocaust, I could not tolerate another. Nor any who – by accident, by intent – act to bring it about. I bore no animus to you, old friend, or your students until you chose to oppose me. Then, I had no choice but to count you among my enemies. Have no illusions on that score. Perhaps it’s best it end this way, Charles. Best for my dream to end in flames and glory, here far above Earth… for if we were ever to meet again… I would have shown you no mercy. I give you your dream, Charles. But I fear, in time, your heart will break as you realize it has ever been a fool’s hope. Farewell, my friend.”
Chris Claremont was removed from the X-Men without explanation and left Marvel after this book. He had been writing for the X-Men for 17 years. Ford : How do you expect me to answer that ?
Doctor : Ford, you love me, right ?
Ford : Usually I'd say yes without question but I'm worried about where this is going.
Doctor : What's gone wrong, Stan ?
Stan : Hey ! Just because I’m calling doesn’t mean there’s a crisis.
Doctor : That’s technically true, I suppose. Why are you calling ?
Stan : Well... There’s a crisis.
Stan : How does the Doctor usually get out of these messes ?
Ford : He doesn’t. He just makes a bigger mess that cancels the first one out.
Ford : My only talent is being stress.
Doctor : Don't you mean stressed?
Ford : No.
Ford : The next time I open up to someone, it'll be my autopsy.
Doctor : Sorry I can’t be emotionally vulnerable with you, it'd ruin the mystery.
Ford, proudly: I slept.
Doctor : Is that so much of a rare thing that you have to say it?
Doctor : Ford is restricted to decaf for the rest of this adventure.
Ford : Sometimes I wonder if I’m hearing voices.
Ford : Then I remember that’s the last bit of sanity I have trying to get me to fall asleep at a reasonable time.
Doctor : I hate you.
Ford : Well, according to this picture I drew of us holding hands, that is untrue.
Ford : Anybody got any crayons so I can color in my Ph. D.?
Stan : You're a lying piece of shit !
Doctor : Oh yeah ? You're the idiot that thinks you can get away with everything you do, WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD !
Ford : I'm leaving and I'm taking the TARDIS with me !
Mabel, gathering cards: Aaaaand that's enough Monopoly for today.
Mabel : You’re like a thousand years old.
Ford : I'm sixty two !
Mabel : And your boyfriend is like two thousand years old.
Doctor : I’m… Wait, hold up. That’s fair.
Ford : What do you call quantums of electromagnetic radiation that don’t get along?
Stan : What did you just say-
Ford : Foetons! *Laughs*
Stan : Wh-what?
Doctor : *Laughs from afar*
Ford : You're ignoring all your problems.
Doctor : I know.
Ford : You also know it's an unhealthy coping mechanism ?
Doctor : I'm ignoring that fact as well.
Ford :
Ford : I'm going to fight the next person who insults the Doctor.
Doctor : I hate myself.
Ford : Alright, square up.
Ford : "You look tired" well, the torment is relentless and the horrors never cease.
Doctor: Alright, so the vampire's gravestone is—
Ford: Cenotaph.
Doctor: What ?
Ford: It's only a gravestone if it marks the location of a body. A monument honouring someone whose body isn't present is a cenotaph.
Doctor: I'm... not sure that's how it works if the body gets up and walks away on its own.
Ford: There's a precedent for gravestones being reclassified as cenotaphs if the body is later removed and reinterred elsewhere. There's no rule that says the body itself can't do the removing.
Doctor: Okay, but the body is very much coming back. That's kind of what we're here to accomplish.
Ford: So it's a temporary cenotaph.
Doctor: And naturally our greatest concern here is avoiding semantic ambiguity.
Ford: Semantic ambiguity is how vampires get you.

“Agent Graves knew Stan Morrison killed your wife...”
Those eight words turned my heart inside out again.
It was a good thing Micki showed up at that moment, she took one look and ordered me to take a walk before I lost my shit and hospital security got called.
I ended up in one of the city's parks heading down a hiking trail that thankfully wasn’t busy this time of day came to an outcropping near the river, sat down, and took off my hat, letting it dangle between my legs, going back over that year.
The pain was followed by excessive drinking and extended workload, using both to numb me, barely going through the motions of life without actually being in it till the accident at home and decided it was best for all to leave, going undercover on Operation: Watch The Throne.
After months of trying to make inroads, those two women came; Twyla Jean, who got me into the Kings through a fake relationship, and Y/N, the mystery piece who made me put in the work to crack open the door she used to keep everyone at bay.
The one my memories, or is it my heart, refuses to release me from.
Later Stan’s betrayal was exposed after years of friendship..hell, the man was family, sent us all into a tailspin cumulated with us standing upon that spot forced him to confess after Emily stumbled upon a drug haul he pulled the trigger on the kill shot to save his own skin from Northside Nation.
All this time, now I’m wondering how many other things I’ve missed.
Tumblr media
I peered through the view window to see Micki texting on her phone spotting me taps a finger to her lips, and came out quietly shutting the door.
“You cooled off?”
“Yeah, hey, thank you for giving me some time to sort stuff out.”
“Is it sorted?”
“For now. So did Y/N write anything else about Mannon?”
“She wrote down a few places he might be hiding but so far, no sign he’s been to any of them. The doctor came by and said she’ll be out tomorrow. I let Cap know and he’s arranging a safe house.”
“Okay, good.”
“So, you wanna tell me about it?”
“No.”
Micki’s eyebrow arched, “since when?”
I spy James coming down the hall, “how about not right now.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”
“Hold him to what?” James asked, “Cap, we all set?” Micki deflected.
“Everything’s set but I’d rather finish this discussion a little more privately,” he opens the door for her to enter first, “I called in a couple of favors and got the safe house in Buffalo.”
“That’s not in our jurisdiction,” Micki says and James lowers his voice, “I did some digging. It’s not been substantiated but it’s looking like Mannon may not only have informants in Austin but other law enforcement agencies, so we need to fly under the radar on this.”
“You’re thinking Graves is on the leaks?”
“I could’ve told you that,” a scratchy voice answered.
“You’re supposed to be writing, not talking.” I sternly say and you give me that particular look hear James stifle a laugh before clapping my shoulder, “good luck with that.”
Tumblr media
Next morning
The nurse had finished going over discharge instructions when James dropped by with the safehouse details and informed us that the landlord had taken what Y/N had of value as payment for damages and tossed everything else.
“My bag, y’all happen to confiscate it?” James shook his head, “I’m sorry, we didn’t find it.”
“What happened to the clothes I had on?”
“They had to cut your uniform off and you were barefoot.”
“Leave it to that sonuvabitch to take my last sixty-five bucks.” Y/N croaked out.
“I’ve already signed off on a purchase voucher for what you’ll need,” James said, “I’ll reach out to some contacts who can help with getting you back on your feet once we have Mannon in custody.”
Tugging at the robe-covered hospital gown, “wonder if they’ll let me keep this lovely ensemble, maybe get some of those awesome slippers to match since I don’t have a-pot to piss in.”
She broke off coughing and I grabbed the water cup, “that’s what you get for talking too much,” sticking the straw between her lips. “You can borrow my stuff till we get you some.”
“I’m no charity case, Ranger Walker,”  Y/N mumbled around the straw.
“Never thought you were.”
Tumblr media
Buffalo, TX
“Well, this is quaint.”
Micki’s sarcasm wasn’t far off.
The safe house turned out to be an older one-bedroom, one-bath ranch in the middle of nowhere with a pull-out and doorways I have to duck through.
“At least we got a clear view of the perimeter.”
“For once I’m happy it’s winter, makes it harder for anyone to hide, even in camo,” Micki commented. “We’ll still need to periodically check around that corpse of trees, looked pretty thick when we pulled in.”
“Let’s hope Mannon hasn’t caught on to our ruse and is following the decoy to Fredericksburg.”
Micki opened the fridge, “whoever set this up didn’t leave much, I better do a supply run.”
“Why you?”
“Cause an almost 6’5” Sasquatch in Ranger clothes isn’t gonna stand out?”
“Good point. Head out-of-town so locals stay in the dark.”
“I’ll change and go to Palestine or Mexia,”  Micki grabs her bag and goes into the bedroom leaving the door cracked, “gotta feeling we'll be stuck here for a while, so I’ll double up on the groceries, especially with how much you pack away.”
“Funny, where’s Y/N?”
Micki walked out slipping on her jacket and crossing her arms, “locked herself in the bath muttering something about preferring the hoosgow then stuck in an ace in the hole with a tenderfoot and blatherskite. She’s got quite the mouth on her.”
“Y/N tends to be colorful when stressed.”
 “What’s she like normally?”
“Sarcasm on a shingle.” Y/N sarcastically quips.
My breath hitched seeing you in my flannel and faded jeans, the type so worn in they’re almost too comfortable to take off, accentuating your curves that’ve haunted my dreams spot toes peeking out under the rolled cuffs.
“What’re you grinning at?”
“You ahh, you still wear that purple polish.”
“Right. I’m gonna get going,” I felt Micki’s scrutiny, mouthing behave, making mine downturn in response.
“I see Ramirez doesn’t tolerate any of your bullshine either.”
Not giving me a chance to respond, you walk off to the cupboard finding the extra set of bedding and pillows come back, cocking your head for me to move.
“What’re you doing?”
“Making up the pullout.”
“Okay, but you’re not sleeping out here.”
“Why?”
“What’d ya mean why? You’re doubling up with Micki..”
“You two can double up in this dice house, I’m parking it out here!”
“The hell you are! Look, your ex has proven he can slip in and out of places undetected so until he’s in custody, we’re going to need to keep you within eyesight 24/7.”
“Ranger Walker, does that mean you’re personally gonna join me in the bath and scrub my back?”
“I..you..you know that’s not what I meant!”
“I’m not going to argue this one,” your voice is wearing out from overuse, “Y/N you probably aren't gonna believe me but I understand what a traumatic..”
“How am I supposed to believe anything coming from that mouth of yours?” Shit, the sheer vitriol in your voice.
“I know this is my only chance at earning any trust from you again, and I‘m gonna be one hundred percent open and honest.” Sitting down I looked up at her with no filters, “remember me telling you about my wife?”
“You said she died in an accident.”
“Her name was Emily. The last time I saw her, she and a friend headed for the border, restocking supply stations. She called..she was so scared then I heard gunshots..I tried calling her back but I knew.”
Fuck, feel like I’m gonna choke on my tongue.
“After the funeral, I buried myself in the job and the bottle. Finally, my family, James, and Stan Morrison did an intervention. I couldn’t be there anymore so I told them I was taking the undercover job outta town..and lost myself in those months. ”
I wasn’t expecting you to sit down next to me, let alone place your hand on my leg, and took the risk of placing my hand on top of yours.
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes and have no right but I am asking you to give me, Cordell Walker, a chance to prove you can trust me.”
Tumblr media
Days later
“How much more time does she need?” Micki snapped.
Y/N’s indecisiveness was wearing on all our nerves, seriously thinking of hitting that bottle I’d snuck in.
Of course, it didn’t help this morning Micki decided to try talking, okay, she tried some psychoanalysis learned from Adrianna, leading to one helluva blowout that had me physically hauling Y/N outside like a sack of taters.
Glancing away from you angrily pacing outside to an equally angry Micki, “as long as she needs. Look, we’re all tired and cranky..”
 “You think?”
“We can’t push..”
“.. then implement those charms of yours Beau so we can..”
“Wrap this up and move on to the next case?”
We both startled not hearing you come in, “gee, wish it was that easy for me, I’d love to be able to move on from this.”
“You’ve had ample opportunity to tell anyone in law enforcement..”
“If I had, I'd been dead a long time ago.”
“What?”
“There’s a shitload more to this than you’ve been told.”
“Walker, grab that bottle I know you’ve got, and let’s all get real comfortable,” Micki retrieved three cups and sat down.
Tumblr media
“I don’t wanna discuss my personal goings-on so let’s start with what brought him here.” Y/N threw back her drink, “ya know why I ditched my real name?”
“Your file wasn’t clear.”
“Because I wouldn’t play their reindeer games.” Not entirely sure where she was going and Micki appeared as puzzled as me. “Wait, you two really don’t know who my family are?”
“No.”
“Daddy got his start by helping certain elected individuals with their less-than-legal activities. In appreciation, they made him Senator Y/D/L/N.”
“One of the Senators who confirms PSC appointments,” Micki states, and I add, “PSC oversees DPS,” some more pieces click, “he found out about Stan’s illegal activities.”
Y/N tapped the side of her nose.
“The mysterious appearance of pension funds also blipped on the Secret Services financial investigations radar but they didn’t have enough tangible evidence against Morrison.  It was sheer coincidence Eric was sent at the same time the Kings started robbing banks.”
“The Kings started a few months before Walker went undercover.”
“No, they’d started small a few years ago, Clint wanted it down to a T before moving on to bigger game, that was Eric’s in. He came up with partnering with Northside; in exchange for laundering the money, they’d make a delivery or pickup while on the circuit, that’s how Clint, Crystal, and Jaxon got misdemeanor drug charges. When Twerp came in, Clint persuaded her into giving Northside banking information on the businesses they were interested in, like The Side Step and Carlos Mendoza's family businesses.”
“Wow, gotta give it to Graves,” Micki interjects, “she’s better at burying shit than I’d given her credit for.”
Y/N gave me a curious look, “you didn’t know any of this?”
“No, but it makes sense, what Stan said, this can’t go on. I thought it was my screwing up at home but I was already getting too close before going under, why he hoped that the Rodeo Kings would end me.”
“Just like Clint, might’ve called you family but didn’t stop him from turning if he thought you were a threat.”
Micki pointedly glares at Y/N, “and you blithely went along with them, not caring who got hurt..”
Y/N shot outta her seat and disappeared outside.
Shit!
Tumblr media
I sat down next to Y/N and leaned back against the same corps trees that half circled a small pond hand her one of the mugs I’d brought.
“Been out here awhile, thought you might need a warm-up.” She took a sip and smiled, “you’ve never forgotten what I like since that first time you offered me coffee.”
“My daddy told me before I got married, ‘son, the key to a happy marriage is never forget what a woman likes to drink’.”
Y/N sighed, “Clint always was crazier than a Kiowa Paint Mare, somewhere along the way, he got twisted. I never believed he’d take things that far, or hurt your family as he did.”
 “How’d you..”
“Trevor. He told me everything but your real name.”
“Clint blamed me for Crystal, for what happened that day, wanted me to understand what it was to suffer. If Trevor hadn’t interfered, I’da killed him with my bare hands.”
“Then you’d have become him.”
“Hmph, I’ve been on the edge of that precipice more than once.” “But you didn’t jump,” she said, “your Jimmy Cricket didn’t let you.”
“Let your conscience be your guide Jimmy Cricket?”
“No, don’t know what else to call it. That something that stops you from stepping off the ledge of not coming back,” she shrugged.
“For me, it’s my family. No matter how hard it gets, they never gave up on me.”
Y/N starts playing with the chain for my dog tags, making the rational part of my brain holler at me this is wrong, she’s under my protection and off limits.
Irrational desire flames in me as her feathery touch makes my skin tingles, accept the invitation of tasting her sweet lips.
Tumblr media
A hand covering my mouth instinctively made me grab their arm.
“Walker, it’s me,” Y/N whispered before removing her hand, “stay quiet, there are people moving around outside.”
“How many?”
“Not sure but I saw three night-sights.”
Shit, not good hear Micki stirring, “hey, we’ve got company.”
***
“Slow down but don’t stop,” I reach for my duffel from the floorboard.
“Walker, whatever you’re thinking, don’t.”
“Stick to the plan..”
“..you bailing out of a moving vehicle wasn’t..”
“He’s right,” Y/N grabs hers, “sticking together gonna get you killed. I’ll split, you two can say it was during the firefight and..”
“..I’m coming with you..”
 “..the hell you are..”
“..you are in my custody and my responsibility. Micki, got any extra cash on you?”
I rifled through the wallet she tossed me, “get Liam to discretely look into Graves’s recent activities, got a feeling Mannon’s sudden appearance wasn’t random, and tell James I’ll be in contact in a few days.”
“Walker..”
“I know. Be careful Flor, we don’t know who to trust inside the circle anymore.”
Glancing in the rearview mirror, “on three.”

The one where your mob boyfriend will do anything to get you pregnant - including fucking you in front of his friends
Warnings: smut, exhibitionism, kind of praise kink, breeding kink, mob au, daddy kink, mention of diabetes in dirty talk? I swear it makes sense, squirting,
A/N:  Thank you to my love, @sweetkingdomstarlight-blog for reading this over for me. This is for my own birthday celebration challenge! Like I explained here, I’m going to try to fill every single AU I listed with the characters I picked for the challenge, and since the deadline if May 27, these fics will be posted randomly, as I finish them, instead of on Thursdays, which are my usual one-shot posting days. Hope you guys like it!

Y/N’s P.O.V.
“Baby, come here.” The sound of his voice surprised me, almost making me drop the tray of cookies I was carrying. When Sebastian told me he’d have a meeting in his office for the better part of the evening, I’d anticipated a pretty boring day by myself - hence the idea of baking to try to occupy my mind with something.
I definitely didn’t expect to be called into said meeting, and couldn’t think of a good reason why that was the case. Still, I didn’t have any reason to disobey him either. In fact, I knew it better than to do that, by now.
So my feet took me in the direction of the only room in the house I didn’t get to spend much time in: his office, my curiosity driving me as much as my eagerness to see him again. It didn’t matter it had only been a couple of hours, I was always desperate for him and his touch.
Thankfully, it seemed like he felt the same. Upon seeing my face appear on the threshold of the door, his usually mean demeanor changed to welcome an excited - if not slightly mischievous - smile, and he reached out to me, almost anxious to feel me near again.
“There you are.” Once on his lap, I relished on the sensation of feeling safe and cared for. This man, who was the cause of so many people’s nightmares and shivers, only ever meant peace and bliss to me. “Where are your manners, honey? C’mon, greet my friends like the good girl I know you are.”
Startled, I took my face out of its preferred hiding spot - the crook of Sebastian’s neck - to finally take notice of the other men in the room: Chris and Anthony, my boyfriend’s closest associates.
“I’m sorry,” I was quick to retract myself, opening up a smile that I hoped would be enough to get me to be forgiven. “It’s nice to see you guys.” The men in question chuckled, and thankfully my minor misbehavior didn’t seem to have affected the atmosphere in the room too badly.
“It’s alright, sweetheart,” Anthony nodded towards me, his eyes glinting with something I didn’t quite understand. “We all know how you can get when Sebastian calls for you.” My face warmed up with this acknowledgment, and I fought the instinct to hide it against my boyfriend again. Meanwhile, said boyfriend just chuckled lightly, rubbing circles on my back as if he knew it eased my embarrassment somewhat.
“You know I’m just as crazy when you’re around, princess.” That did make me feel a little bit better, and the comments from the other men only helped me further.
“Crazy, possessive, insane…” Anthony counted, his head tilting from one side to another with each word that fell from his lips.
“When she’s around and when she isn’t,” Chris added. I didn’t have to look at my boyfriend to know that he was steaming as he stared his friends down - the fingers that were possessively pressing down on my hips told me as much.
“If you’re done trying to get a kick out of me…” He warned, finally turning his attention completely to me. “Baby, it’s almost time.” I glanced at the clock before realizing that he was right.
Ever since Sebastian decided he wanted to impregnate me, he’d been fucking me around the clock, paying attention to what the doctors said about fertility cycles and prime mating hours, never letting me spend more than sixty minutes without his cum deep inside of me.
“Okay…” I agreed, trying to understand what was his plan, since the other mob bosses’ stances made it pretty clear that the meeting wasn’t over and Sebastian didn’t seem to intend to call it off either.
“Then I think we better start now, huh?” His hand squeezed my thigh, just as a pang of arousal went straight to my already overflowing cunt when his words finally made sense. “Get to work, honey.”
It was an order I’d be stupid not to follow - but I didn’t want to disobey it either. With trembling fingers, I slowly unbuttoned my dress and let it pool down on the floor until I was standing in my underwear in front of my boyfriend and his closest friends, trying to unclasp my bra despite my nervousness.
But Sebastian wasn’t a patient man. Which is why I was hardly surprised when he pulled me to him again, quickly getting rid of my undergarments as he chuckled upon seeing just how damp my panties were from the mixture of both of our cums.
“Such a good little whore,” he whispered, almost to himself - but I heard it, and it prompted a new wave of wetness to flow from me. I made it a point not to look at Anthony and Chris, even though I knew they were staring at me, taking in my body with all of the bite marks and love bites that my boyfriend kept me decorated with, but as I was climbing Seb’s lap, it quickly became clear he wouldn’t allow me the blissful ignorance of his friends’ presence.
“No, no, princess,” he spoke, quickly manhandling me into turning around so I’d sit on his lap with my body turned towards the other men in the room. “Like this.” I gasped when I took in the way Anthony and Chris were looking at me, their eyes dark and lustful - I couldn’t deny that.
My entire body tingled, and I knew my wetness was now dripping from me, running down my thighs. I could feel it. I’d never been this aroused, as humiliating as it was to admit it. Absentmindedly, I started rubbing myself against the head of his member, my eyes glued on both men in front of me, but quickly, Sebastian made sure to get his way again.
“Now it’s not the time for teasing, baby.” That was all the warning he gave me as he started to pull me to sit down on his cock, the thick member stretching me even after all of the times I had it inside of me.
“She’s so wet already,” Anthony commented, eyes glinting dangerously as his tongue swiped over his bottom lip. I didn’t know what to say, but thankfully, my boyfriend took over for me, letting me focus on his cock and the way it was filling me completely.
“Yeah.” He squeezed my hip, and I could hear the pride just in that word, making me melt against him. “You’re always this way for me, aren’t you, honey?” He wasn’t wrong, so I wasn’t about to lie to him.
“Y-yes.” My fucked-out voice had all three men chuckling. Sebastian took advantage of my sitting position to pull my head back and press a kiss to my temple. I relished in it. I loved the gentle caresses he gave me whilst doing the nastiest things to my body.
“Yeah, I fucked her nice and deep already,” my boyfriend informed his friends, the tone sounding almost nonchalant, like it was no big deal. “Besides, she’s always ready for daddy to take, huh? Whenever I want to, you’re always wet for me, aren’t you, princess?”
I must have babbled some sort of agreeance, since he didn’t push me to say anything else. He had started to move me by then, forcing my hips up and down to ride his dick, and my moans took over the silence of the room.
“I bet she’s sweet as candy,” Anthony’s voice broke the tension once more. Behind me, Sebastian laughed, much to my surprise. I was used to his possessive persona, the one who couldn’t deal with anyone staring at me for too long, much less exploring my naked body with their eyes while commenting on the way I tasted.
“Oh, yeah… could make a diabetic die of pleasure between these thighs.” The comment, paired with the hand that found my clit and started rubbing, had me whining in need, already so close to cumming.
“Shit, the sounds that she makes…” That’s when Chris finally joined in on the debauchery, his hand curling over the prominent boner poorly hidden by his slacks. “And here I was, thinking she was this innocent little thing…”
I wanted to say something. I really did, anything to defend myself - even if I wasn’t really being wrongfully accused. It just felt like I should - like, for whatever reason, there was something wrong with me, if I allowed my boyfriend to do this, fuck me in front of his friends, take me for their eyes to see.
But I didn’t. Because one thing was obvious, and I’d never be able to deny it: I liked it. So when Sebastian answered, keeping the conversation going like I wasn’t even in the room, like he wasn’t buried balls deep inside of me, I just kept moaning and mewling, trying my very best to keep myself from orgasming before he allowed me to.
“Oh, but she is,” my boyfriend informed his best friend, and I could feel his proud gaze settling over me once more. “She gets so shy about what I ask her to do, still. But she does it anyway, don’t you, baby? You’re the best girl for daddy, aren’t you?”
I could only nod, particularly since his arm snaked to the front of my body, easily locating my clit so he could start rubbing it. “You know you need to get off first, honey.” His tone was almost disappointed, like he was scolding me. “It helps with the conception.”
I knew that, and as much as I could feel it - the orgasm rising inside of me, threatening to take over and take me to bliss - I didn’t feel like I’d be able to stumble over that edge. Not with so much happening, so many gazes settled on me. It was too much pressure.
“C’mon, you can trust them,” Sebastian tried to convince me, his stubbled jaw rubbing against my naked back. “Show them how cute you look when you cum all over my cock.” The words made me whimper.
I wanted to, I really really wanted to. And I was so close, but I could feel it slipping away, almost out of reach - “Don’t you want to start our family, princess?” He pressed on, trying to get me to tip over the edge. “Gimme my baby, c’mon.”
And just like that, he coaxed an orgasm out of me. Wetness flooded from where we were joined - he’d always been able to make me squirt so easily, I didn’t even know I was able to do that before we got together.
I could hear Anthony’s “damn” and Chris’ “oh, shit”, but they sounded distant, almost underwater somehow. All I could focus on was the feeling of Sebastian’s fingers bruising my hips as he filled me with his cum, making me moan out loud at the warmth that took over my lower half upon feeling so stuffed.
“There ya go, baby.” I felt my boyfriend press a soft kiss on my temple, as he tucked me against his chest. “Go to sleep now, honey. I know how tired you get once I fuck you throughly.” He wasn’t wrong, I was already yawning. “You’ll stay here for the night.”
And as I felt his cock keeping me plugged, his hands caressing my back while he went back to talk to his partners about business deals, all I could think about was how happy and safe he made me feel.
Especially in front of everyone else.

Marvel Facts That You Probably Know, But Also Probably Don’t #2
Hey, are you a casual Marvel fan who gets most of their information about Marvel characters from movies and TV? Well, here are some facts about some classic characters that you probably know, but also probably don’t. Facts involving their history and a few odd stories you might not have heard of.
Today, we’re going to be talking about facts connected to the following characters/groups:
Hulk
Iron Man
Spider-Man
The Avengers
Thor
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Doctor Strange
And one quick fact about Cyclops
Here are the facts:
What's technically the first big Marvel crossover is when the Fantastic Four went up against the Hulk in issue #12 of their 1961 run.
The Hulk's first solo run in 1962 only lasted for six issues.
And you know Hulk's sidekick Rick Jones? HE formed a team of teenagers called the Teen Brigade, who send messages around the world. And it's them who inadvertently brought the Avengers together when calling for help against the Hulk...I'm not kidding.
Like Thor and Ant-Man, Iron Man made his debut in an anthology comic, with his stories often taking place in Tales of Suspense.
Iron Man didn't get captured by the Nine Rings. He got captured by a Wong-Chu, an evil Vietnamese general...it was a different time.
Tony Stark used to need to wear an entire iron chest plate to keep himself alive, rather than just a small arc reactor.
He then painted his MK I suit gold after his lady friend Marien suggested it.
And if you think his suit in Avengers: Infinity War was OP, wait until you see his MK I suit from 1963. It was basically Batman's utility belt as it just so happens to have a dozen tools and attachments that allow him to do anything. It's kind of cool but also insanely lazy.
Did you know Steven Strange wasn't the first Doctor Strange? Because he wasn't. There was actually another character called Dr. Strange, who actually came close to killing Iron Man if not for his daughter ruining things.
Spider-Man was initially a one-off character in Amazing Fantasy #15. It wasn't until many fans demanded more did Stan Lee and Steve Ditko give him his own series in 1963.
In the very first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker is referred to as Peter Palmer.
J. Jonah Jameson published both The Daily Bugle and Now Magazine.
Odin explicitly states that Thor is his favorite son...what a dick.
If Thor lets go of his hammer for sixty seconds, he'll revert back to Donald Blake. But if he's in Asgard, which is beyond Earth's time, Thor can stay as Thor indefinitely.
Also, Thor doesn't like publicity and crowds of photographers. He was too scared people would see through his god-like physique and see him as Donald Blake.
Loki was a blonde once...that is all.
And alongside telling stories of Thor fighting the villain of the week, Journey Into Mystery would have Tales of Asgard, which basically had stories of adventures the Norse gods went before Thor's.
Hank Pym's Ant-Man used to be married to Maria Trovaya before meeting Janet Van Dyme...Maria was murdered by communists for betraying communism...it was a different time.
It was retconned that the main reason why Hank Pym became Ant-Man was because of Maria's death.
It was The Wasp who came up with the name for the Avengers...I bet she doesn't get enough credit for that.
Doctor Strange also started on an anthology comic, but it wasn't in his own like Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man. Instead, he shared a slot on Stange Tales alongside the Human Torch.
Unlike most superheroes, Doctor Strange's first story wasn't an origin. Fans didn't figure out how the good doctor came to be until his third appearance.
Doctor Strange also didn't start with his cloak of levitation. Shocking right? To find out that an iconic piece of a hero's costume didn't even exist when that hero was made.
Scott Summers, Cyclops, was originally called Slim Summers.

Open Wide | Roger Taylor
Pairing: Roger Taylor/Ben!Roger Taylor x Reader
Warnings: Some sexual innuendos (because lets face it, it’s Roger), but None
Word Count: 5,823
Summery: In an alternate reality where Queen didn’t get together to dominate the music world, Roger became a dentist. (Y/N) finds herself in his office with a terrible tooth ache, but her cavity isn’t the only thing the drummer turned dentist wants to fill.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Smile Dental Associates Dr. Thomas W. Litticar DDS Dr. Henrik F. Stan DDS Dr. Roger Meddows Taylor DDS
(Y/N) hated dentists, it had been about five years since she had been to one in fact, and if it were up to her she wouldn’t be stood outside this office to begin with. The throbbing pain in her mouth, however, had become unbearable, and quite frankly, her boss was tired of listening to her whining and moaning. Knowing that her track record with dentists wasn’t exactly the best, her boss had recommended her own dentist to her Dr. Litticar...unfortunately for (Y/N) he had been booked solid for the foreseeable future. As much as she would’ve preferred to wait for the doctor her boss had given her, the pain in her tooth had been getting steadily worse as the days passed to an almost unbearable degree. The woman on the phone had mentioned that Dr. Taylor, one of the other doctors in the office, on the other hand, he had a few last minute cancellations allowing her to slip right into his appointment diary.
(Y/N) had seen two separate dentists in the year prior to swearing off seeing a dentist entirely, each one more of a disaster than the last. The first one refused to acknowledge his developing Parkinson's Disease, so instead of retiring like he should’ve, poor (Y/N) had ended up with a hole poked in not only her gums, but her tongue as well. Her next hadn’t waited long enough for the Novacane he administered to set in before he extracted a tooth. Needless to say her track record with them hadn’t been great. She was really hoping what they said about the third time being a charm was true. She bit the inside of her lip looking down the street debating on if this was actually a good idea. Going to the dentist, it was just a weird concept to her, having someone poking around on the inside of your mouth with sharp tools while you lay helplessly in a chair. She looked back at the door to the office with a heavy sigh ready to walk away when the pain in her mouth flared up once again making her wince in pain. As much as she hated it, she needed this pain to end already.
As she climbed the staircase to the second level where the office actually sat, (Y/N) couldn’t help but feel her anxiety bubbling even further in the pit of her stomach with each step. It made her head spin like a top, especially once the potent sterile stench of the small dental office hit her nose like a boxer’s glove in the final round right before a K.O. It was a rather plain waiting room with a few chairs, and a coffee table with a few magazines strewn across it, a decorative plant in the corner and a painting of a basket of fruit on the wall. The doctors obviously didn’t care much about the practice all that much if this was the sight their clients were greeted with upon walking in, but then again not like you spent much time in the waiting room anyway, most people just wanted in and out as quickly as possible. Only one man sat in the waiting room reading the paper. She turned her head to the receptionist who was an older woman, probably about the age of sixty-five, with greying hair. She sifted through a few files before sensing (Y/N)’s presence before her. “Hello! Welcome to Smile Dental Associates! How can I help you?” She smiled warmly, the smile reaching up to her sparkling stormy grey eyes. She was in stark contrast to the rather plain waiting room dressed up in bright cheery colours and patterns.
“I uh...I called yesterday about...about a um...new patient exam with...Dr. Taylor…?” She spoke timidly, clearly on edge despite the relaxing music playing from the office speakers. Another wave of pain hit her at that moment making her groan internally as her hand flew to her cheek. “And a uh...toothache...”
“A bit nervous, are we love?” She smiled softly. “Don’t you worry yourself one more moment, Dr. Taylor is absolutely wonderful. A real gentleman and great dentist. If I could just have you fill out this form, I’ll let him know you’re here.” (Y/N) nodded taking the clipboard the form was on. If this is what she had to do to be rid of this death sentence knowing as a cavity, then so be it. “Mr. Gallini.” The woman called the other man up front. “Doctor Litticar will see you now.” The man smiled as he stood up, making his way to the back. The girl slowly filled out the forms, occasionally getting lost in thought as she tried to remember some of the deep breathing exercises her therapist had given her when she had anxiety attacks like this. Nothing ever seemed to help, especially in a dental office. She was trapped with no place to go. (Y/N) sighed, finishing the paperwork, bringing it back up to the receptionist. “Fantastic Ms…(L/N). If you’ll just have a seat, Dr. Taylor will be with you soon.”
(Y/N) sighed slumping down in her seat trying not to let her previous dental experiences return to her mind. She would rather light herself on fire or run down the high street in the buff than have her teeth worked on any day of the week. She grimaced at the thought of this new dentist. He was probably an old, slimy, crusty old codger, one who like so many other doctors should’ve really retired already. He’d probably end up cutting out her tongue if she wasn’t careful. Why couldn’t dentists be cute? Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a blood curdling scream coming from the back room. (Y/N) practically jumped out of her skin upon hearing it. “Dear me.” The receptionist breathed. “Poor man.” (Y/N) felt the colour drain from her face as the lump formed in her throat again.
“Okay...relax (Y/N)...it’s only the dentist...oh boy…” She groaned internally burying her face in her hands, there was no way she was going to make it through this, toothache or no toothache. It just wasn’t worth it.
The door to the back room swung open with a thud to reveal another man with dark hair and a light scruff on his face. His face was swollen as he cradled his jaw in his hand, little spots of blood on his white T-shit. “Easy now, Mr. Lutz.” A high pitched but obviously male voice met (Y/N)’s ears. She looked back to the door to see a young looking, choppy haired blonde man emerge from the back, walking up next to the man. He looked as though he should be the drummer in a rock ‘n roll band rather than working in a dental office. He must’ve just graduated from dental school and was doing placements as a dental assistant. (Y/N) looked him up and down, wearing the traditional dental jacket and black trousers, he looked very distinguished but at the same time gave off those ‘your daughter calls me daddy too’ vibes. “Just go fill that prescription and get some rest and I promise you that the pain and swelling will be gone in a few days.” The man left the office as the dental assistant sighed annoyedly. “He just wouldn’t sit still, no matter how many times I told him it would hurt so much less.” Both the assistant and the receptionist jumped in surprise, (Y/N) white gripping the arms of the chair and practically jumping through the ceiling at the sounds of another screech of pain emanating from the back room. She bit the inside of her lip seriously reconsidering her plans before once again burying her face in her hands. Each scream made her want to throw up more and more.
The blonde dental assistant took a moment to steady himself before rubbing the sides of his head as he leaned against the reception desk. “Mr. Gallini sounds like he’s having a rough visit as well.” The receptionist chuckled.
“Yes, but must he be so bloody vocal about it?” The dental assistant groaned. “First Lutz now him...I swear sometimes I just want to…”
“Your next appointment is here Dr. Taylor.” The receptionist interrupted not wanting the young doctor to fly off the handle like he sometimes did when he had a new patient sitting not four meters away from him.
“Already?” Roger asked spinning around to see the lone patient sitting in the waiting room. Even from across the room, he could sense her discomfort and see the grey cloud of melancholy and dispare handing around her like smoke from a cigarette. He smirked softly, chuckling to himself. Looks like it’s going to be one of those appointments. He thought to himself as he slowly stalked across the room, taking a seat next to the girl with an audible sigh of relief, tired of being on his feet all day. He crossed his arms across his chest. “Nervous?”
“You have no idea…” She whimpered softly to herself not looking up. In the brief few moments she had seen this dental assistant, (Y/N) had thought he was insanely attractive, but she wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of bagging himself a quick shag by comforting her when she was terrified of her coming fate. (Y/N), despite being scared out of her wits at the moment, had more pride than that, and nobody, not even a blonde bad boy looking, fresh out of dental school assistant was going to take that away from her.
“Not a fan of dentists then? Well hopefully after this visit I might be able to change your mind.” He smiled brightly as she looked up at him. “Dr. Roger Meddows Taylor DDS, at your service Ms…?” Roger was taken aback at the sight of her. She was one of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, even with the fear that was crossly etched into her features. She had sparkling (e/c) irises, that shone like the stars that hung in the sky. Her luscious (h/l) (h/c) looks looked so soft. He was just itching to run his fingers through them as he kissed those beautifully plump lips of hers. The fact that she was so clearly so terrified of being there in the office just about broke his heart. As unprofessional as it would be, he wanted to pull her into his lap and hold her close, whispering sweet nothings into her ear as he tried to convince her that everything would be okay, as he rubbed calming circles on her thigh. Even still he had to make sure he got this one’s phone number. The young dentist didn’t exactly get out much anymore these days, and lets face it, insanely attractive young women like her didn’t ever wander their way into this office.
“(Y/F/N).” She nodded to him. She was surprised that someone so young looking was a dentist, not to mention some so handsome. He had the most breathtakingly bight ocean blue orbs she had ever seen in her entire life. They sparkled with amusement and care, as he tried to silently reassure her that he was going to help her. His dirty blonde hair was long and rather thick, and she thought about what it must feel like to run her hands through it as he roughly and passionately kissed her. She subconsciously bit her lower lip as she studied the young Dr. Taylor, something that didn’t go unnoticed by Roger. He had seen the same look on so many other girl’s faces as he had made his way through dental school. He knew he was good looking, and it was so rare these days he saw that look that it was a huge confidence boost. He might’ve even let out a slight chuckle at the sight of her entrancement if her wonder and lust blown out pupils were quickly clouded with pain and anguish as another wave of pain washed over her. She whimpered her hand flying to her cheek as she cringed in pain. “Wait so you’re Dr. Taylor?”
“Sure am.” He nodded with a smirk.
“You look too young and too...” She paused trying to consider her next words carefully. The last thing she wanted to do was reveal her hand too early, especially now that she knew HE of all people, was her doctor.
“Attractive? Handsome? Easy on the eyes?” Roger offered suggestions, knowing fully well by the look in her eyes what she was thinking. He had seen that same look enough during his placements to know what his patients really thought of him, not that he minded. Then again it was a lot harder to be taken seriously. He often felt written off as inexperienced right away based off of his looks alone, even though he had graduated dental school top of his class. She nodded in response, biting her lip sheepishly. “Yeah I get that a lot. Guess it comes with the field, seeing as how it’s overrun by crusty old cogers like the other two doctors in this practice.”
“Must make your patients all the more willing though.”
“Some more than others, if you know what I mean.” He offered her a sly smirk with a well placed wink. He was going to do anything he could to help relieve her anxieties as much as he could. It was written all over her features how freaked out she was to be here right now. At the same time, the flirting just came natural to him, especially since it wasn’t every day, a cute, unsuspecting female, wandered their way into his office. By the end of this appointment he was determined to make sure she was smitten. She was, after all, absolutely breath taking. She giggled softly at his smooth and subtle flirting only for another wave of pain to shoot its way through her mouth. She groaned softly her hand flying to her cheek, causing the young dentist to furrow his brow in concern. “Hey, that don’t look good. What do you say we head on back and I promise I’ll make this appointment as painless as possible, Ms. (L/N). Deal?” She nodded as Roger quickly stood, ready to get to work. As much as she didn’t trust dentists, there was something about the way his ocean orbs sparkled that just entranced her, like a moth to a flame. He could probably tell her to walk out in front of a bus for his own amusement and she’d do it with no questions asked.
(Y/N) stood slowly taking a few steps toward the door to the back looking at Roger’s bright ocean blue orbs, trying to find some sort of comfort before her (e/c) orbs landed on the words D.D.S inscribed on his coat. She felt her uneasiness return as bile rose to the back of her throat. She stopped walking gulping the uneasy feeling back down. She looked at the door to the outside. “I uh…” She stumbled with her words a moment.
Roger smirked his signature smirk before crossing his arms over his chest, finding a bit of amusement in her sudden change of attitude. “What’s the matter? Afraid?”
“No! Of course not!” She argued too quickly to be convincing. He knew girls in this type of situation would try to seem tougher than normal in order not to appear to be weak and helpless, especially in front of someone like him. “I just uh…I…”
“You just what?” He chuckled softly.
“I just don’t have the time right now! Yeah! I have somewhere to be! Sorry for wasting your time Dr. Taylor.” (Y/N) spoke quickly, making a B-line toward the door. Anything she had to face out in the world, including a toothache would be better than this, hot doctor or not. She cringed as another wave of pain made her stop short as Roger jumped in front of her, not only blocking her exit, but also pulling her comfortably into his arms as he tried to ease her pain and anxieties surrounding the appointment.
“My dear girl.” Roger started. “There is always time for dental hygiene. Besides I can’t let you leave when you’re clearly in a great amount of pain. What kind of a doctor would I be if I allowed such a travesty to transpire?” He paused a placing a comforting hand on her cheek, his bright eyes boring into hers, trying to reassure her everything would be alright. “Now, a pretty thing like you needs a pretty smile to match wouldn’t you say? Best let me have a look so we can keep it like that.” Roger spoke gently, trying to reason with the girl. She bit the inside of her lip. God damn it, he was just as charming as ever, even when he was trying to be professional and wearing that horrid dental jacket. There was a certain twinkle in his eyes that just made her trust him. She sighed heavily bowing her head in defeat. “Excellent, come with me then.” Roger said turning her around, placing a hand at the small of her back, guiding her toward the back, closing the door to the waiting room behind them. “Right in that third room there, I’ll be but a moment.” Roger explained.
(Y/N) breathed nervously as she headed to the specified room. “The things I do not to suffer…” She complained quietly to herself as she entered the small room. It was what you would expect from a dental office, small, compact, and full of torture equipment that shouldn't go anywhere near a person’s mouth. She bit the inside of her lip at the sight of the dental tools getting ready to bolt once again. Maybe if she was lucky she’d be able to slip past Dr. Taylor and be down on the street before he even noticed she was gone. She turned, deciding this was the best option only to find herself but a lips distance away from that man with the most breathtaking eyes again. She felt her breath hitch in her throat as her eyes flicked down to his soft looking lips before looking back to his eyes. There was a certain glint of mischief in his eyes as he offered her a cocky smirk, fully aware of what it was he was doing to her.
“And...just where do you think you’re going?” He questioned quietly as he pulled the door closed behind him. She bit her lip, it would be so easy for her to just lean in and mesh their lips together. She imagined he was one hell of a kisser, especially with how he must know his way around the human mouth. She mentally shook her head out, that was gross. (Y/N) sighed in defeat and looked down. Roger let out a breathy chuckle, gently taking her hand in his giving it a reassuring squeeze. “Good girl.” He praised her, gesturing for her to hang up her belongings. She hung her raincoat and bag up on a hook in the corner before taking a seat on the chair in the middle of the room, tapping her fingers on the armrest nervously. As Roger threw the file in his hands on the counter. He was the spider, she was the fly, and she had willingly stepped into his parlour. It was only a matter of time until she was stuck in his web, if she wasn’t already. “Alright, new patient exam.” He cheered unenthusiastically, clearly tired from his day’s work as he placed the disposable dental bib around her neck. “How did you hear about our practice then if you don’t mind me asking?” He asked as he washed his hands.
“Oh uh…” She stumbled, unsure how to respond. “My boss had recommended Dr. Litticar...but uh...you had appointments available sooner...” Roger shrugged, accepting the answer as he dried his hands studying the girl in the chair intently. God was she gorgeous, he was going to have a hard time focusing on her teeth what with those sparkling (e/c) eyes staring back at him at such a close distance. He had an overwhelming urge to run his hands through her soft looking (h/c) locks. Who was he kidding, the things he would do to her in that dental chair were endless. So many fantasies he wanted to fill, and she was the one he wanted to fill them with. He mentally shook his head out, no he’d surely lose his practice like that if she liked it or not. Yet the look of fear that was clearly etched on her face, and quivered through every syllable she spoke, he could feel it pulling on his heartstrings. He had to be professional in this case, he couldn’t risk losing another client...not again. He stood staring for a few moments too long however. “Is something the matter?”
“What?” Roger asked, shaking his head out as he moved to stand behind her. “No, sorry. It’s just…you look awfully familiar is all…” He said, pulling over his cart of tools. “You wouldn’t happen to have been at the White Lion pub off Oxford Street the other night would you?”
“No...?” She answered with a raised brow. What was he getting on about?
“Oh…well of course you wouldn’t have been, I would’ve remembered a beautiful woman like you being there.” He smirked with a wink. “If I’m not mistaken, you’d be a (favourite alcoholic/virgin beverage) girl, am I right?”
She let out a small laugh. “Yeah. How did you know?”
“What can I say I’m a people person... especially when it comes to an absolutely gorgeous woman like yourself.” He laughed with a charming wink, tilting the chair back ever so slightly before flicking on the overhead lamp. “Alright then, let’s take a look, shall we?” He said looking down at her expectantly. (Y/n) grimaced looking at Roger with a pleading look, silently asking him not to do this to her. The look just about broke the dentist’s heart. He knew fully well he had to be professional but all he wanted to do was pull her into his arms, card his fingers through her hair in a soothing way and whisper sweet nothings into her ear, while he planted soft tending kisses to her cheeks and neck as he reassured her everything was going to be okay. “Hey…” He spoke gently, placing a comforting hand on her forearm, gently and soothingly running his hand up and down it. “All you have to do is relax and breathe...it will all be over before you know it.” His cerulean eyes stared intently into her (e/c) orbs, nothing but care and concern portrayed in them as she nodded in agreement. “Very good, now open wide for me, love.” (Y/N), though not without hesitation, did as requested. The dentist smirked, beginning his examination, course if it were up to him, he’d be putting...other things...besides his dental tools in her mouth. “You know…” Roger spoke suddenly after a long silence filled with nothing but the sounds of his soft hums accompanied by the radio, trying to make some small talk and a move. “There really is no reason to be scared love.” Roger said as he picked up two of his instruments to poke around at her teeth. “Dentists don’t bite. Course I can’t say the same for the patients sometimes.”
“Ive had a few bad experiences in the past.” She complained with a grimace at the sight of the sharp, shiny tools in his hands. “Can’t trust a dentist as far as I can throw one these days.”
He chuckled as he moved in once more to continue his work. “Well hopefully I can change your mind about that by the time we’re done here. A beautiful woman like you doesn’t deserve to be scared of something that should really be quite simple. Course if I can’t convince you here I could always take you to dinner sometime and continue my efforts.”
“If that’s your idea of flirting, I hardly think that right now is the time to be asking me for a date Dr. Taylor.” She whimpered, not that she wasn’t over the moon that such a handsome piece of man was asking her of all people out on a date, she just didn’t want to see him get too cocky and end up hurting her. “As long as I am sat in this chair I’m not interested.” She lied through her teeth, she was very much so interested in the blond dentist. “And it’s (Y/N) thank you.”
“I s’pose you’re right.” He chuckled to himself. “Can’t blame a man for trying though can you? After all, gotta keep these long days interesting somehow.” He said returning to his work. “And if I’m to call you (Y/N), then you’re calling me Roger.”
“ahappae-ine-yaour-waorrk?” She tried to ask him, already having his hands at her mouth.
“I’m sorry, love, didn’t your mum ever tell you it’s impolite to talk with your mouth full?” He teased her gently with a playful wink, causing her to roll her eyes with a slight giggle. Even as a dentist he was still quite the charmer. Sure he didn’t get much practice these days, not many women were wandering into his spider’s den of a dentist’s office. Then after a shift, he wasn’t exactly jumping at the opportunity to go stalk around all his old haunts for hours on end anymore in hopes of bringing some one home, just didn’t have the energy for that anymore. Maybe back in his drumming days that was the dream, but not so much now. “Now, what were you saying?”
“I was just asking if you’re unhappy in your work.” She shrugged as he turned back to his equipment.
“I wouldn’t really say that.” He sighed. “I mean don’t get me wrong, it's good stable work, being a dentist and all, pays quite well too, but it's dragstuff after a few hours.” He paused, picking up a new instrument. “And let's face it, it’s not exactly the best way to pick up girls...a very rare occasion these days when a beautiful woman wanders into my chair.” He shrugged with a chuckle and got back to work, his nimble hands working quickly and accurately. She noticed Roger bobbing along with the music and tapping his foot along with the beat, occasionally stopping to air drum when he thought she didn’t notice him. Soon Led Zepplin’s Moby Dick came on the radio and Roger couldn’t hold back the temptation any longer. “Ahhh…this song has got one of the best drum solos of all time in it.” He cheered, closing his eyes, stopping his work completely to air drum along with the song.
She smirked to herself, watching his extremely precise drumming movements, clearly visualizing himself behind a drum kit. He looked so much happier in his distracted drumming state. Deciding that his distraction was a lot better than having him poking around in her mouth or attempting - and quite frankly succeeding - in flirting with her, she let him enjoy his blissful day dream until the end of the song. “I take it you drum in your spare time then.” She giggled as ‘Please Please Me’ by The Beatles came over the radio.
His ocean orbs snapped open revealing a look of horror, realizing what he had done in the middle of an appointment. “I’m so sorry. That was so unprofessional of me.” He apologized, quickly grabbing new instruments before trying to return to his work. “But yeah, I used to drum in a band called Smile while I was at Uni…but that was short lived.” He sighed, stopping his work once again, feeling a bit of sadness and anger at the old memory. To say he missed drumming was an understatement, hell it was in his blood, but it wasn’t meant to be. It wasn’t going to put food on the table or keep a roof over his head. Not to say he really like dentistry, but it was a living.
“Do you miss it?”
He sighed again looking down at her with a curious brow. “You ask a lot of questions for someone who isn’t flirting.” He teased.
“Can’t help it, I’m a curious girl.” She shrugged.
“Curiosity killed the cat.”
“But satisfaction brought it back.”
He laughed at the statement thinking over his answer for a moment before speaking. “Yeah…yeah I do...at least the rock ‘n roll bit.”
“So why don’t you do it?”
Roger rolled his eyes at the question. “Are you daft? Nobody wants a dentist for a rock ‘n roll drummer. Thats what I really enjoy. I do sometimes drum for a blues band at a few pubs but that’s not the sound I really enjoy...So why bother?” He asked as he poked at one in particular dark spot in her mouth. (Y/N) let out a whine, screwing her eyes shut in pain as Roger quickly retracted his instruments. He gently caressed her cheek trying to sooth her in anyway that he could. It hurt him deep to his core to know he had caused her such great pain. “Shhhh shhh, it’s okay, I know...that hurts, it's alright…breathe....” Roger soothed trying to coach her through the pain, before he continued to examine the spot, now making sure not to apply pressure to it. Seeing she was starting to calm down some he offered her a soft smile. “Good girl, just like that.” He turned his back to her after a few moments to look at the file on the counter, writing a few things down. “You’ve got a rather nasty little cavity there, love.” Roger explained.
“No shit...” She groaned as the dentist chuckled softly at her response.
Roger turned his attention back to her mouth for a few moments before going back to the file. “It doesn’t look too bad, but we’ll have to bring you back in so I can fill it.”
“Can’t you just give me something to get painkillers and we leave it where it is?” She asked hopefully.
Roger sighed taking a seat on the swivel chair in the room before taking her hand in his, gently rubbing small circles over top the back of her hand. “I know you’re scared love...but I’m going to take care of you.”
“But it’s going to hurt...” (Y/N) whimpered, the sadness returning to her eyes.
Roger bit the inside of his lip, his heart stopping for a moment at the sight. “(Y/N)...I promise...the last thing I would ever want to do it hurt you...” He trailed off with his intense ocean blue orbs staring into her (e/c) pools as he brought her hand to his lips, gently placing a tender kiss to her knuckles. “You’re just going to have to trust me.” She nodded feeling her heart flutter at the action. “Good girl...” He praised again standing to write out a prescription for pain medication.
There were a few moments of silence between the pair. “You know…” She spoke hesitantly. “For as much as I hate the dentist...this has been one of the easiest appointments I’ve been too.”
Roger spun around a slight smirk on her face. “Yeah? It’s a kind of magic that I possess, a delicate touch. Comes from years of drumming.”
“Are drumming and your silver tongue your only skills? Or have you more?” She quipped suddenly feeling a bit braver.
Roger chuckled, turning to lean up against the counter with his arms crossed over his chest with a smirk, impressed by her sudden boldness. “I’ve a few others. Of course it wouldn’t be professional of me to say what they are.”
“Even if I asked?”
"’Fraid so love. Now if you take that to a chemist, those pain meds should suffice until we can get you back in here.” Sooner rather than later, the young dentist silently hoped. “You’re done for today. If you’ll talk to Mrs. Henley, our receptionist, on your way out, she’ll get you scheduled in for an appointment to fill that cavity.”
“Don’t the drugs normally come after the procedure?”
“I make exceptions for a pretty girl who’s in terrible pain.” He winked. “I only like to make pretty girls feel good.” He mused soliciting a heavy blush over her cheeks. Oh yeah, I have her right where I want her.
(Y/N) stood grabbing her coat and handbag from the corner. She turned to leave only to once again find herself but a lips distance away from Roger again. She felt her breath hitch in her throat at his close proximity. Her eyes were trained once again on those soft lips of his. He was too handsome for his own good, and he was clearly working his charms on her. “I uh...” She stuttered. “...thank you...Roger...”
“Anything for you (Y/N)...” He breathed, seriously debating on closing the gap between them. Rather unfortunately his professional side won out as he stepped off to the side to allow her to leave. “I’ll walk you out then.”
“Yeah...” She nodded at him.
“Mrs. Henley.” The blonde dentist smiled at the receptionist. “Kindly book in our lovely Ms. (L/N) for our earliest possible appointment.”
“Of course Dr. Taylor.” She said scanning over his appointment diary. “It looks like we have an opening Friday evening, your last appointment of the day, would that be alright Ms. (L/N)?” She asked.
Roger turned his gaze back to the small female beside him as he looked at her with a smug grin on his features. “Well Ms. (L/N)?” He asked her.
(Y/N) groaned internally. If Roger kept his games up like this she might actually start to like dentists...this blonde, long haired, cerulean eyed dentist. (Y/N) pulled her entranced gaze from Roger’s eyes to Mrs. Henley. “That sounds fine.”
Roger’s smirk grew even more at the prospect of seeing her again so soon. He had forty-eight hours to come up with a plan to ensnare this fly in his spider’s web. “Well, I guess I’ll be seeing you on Friday Ms. (L/N). Try to take it easy and avoid eating on that side with the cavity.”
(Y/N) was doing everything in her power to keep from looking at the eyes of the man that would surely be haunting her dreams for the next forty-eight hours. Hell, who was she kidding, those eyes would be haunting her every waking moment. She turned her gaze back to the blonde dentist, who was looking at her expectantly with raised eyebrows. “Thank you again...Dr. Taylor.” She drew out his name, smirking seeing him shift ever so slightly. The way she said that drove him absolutely wild. “I’ll see you Friday.” She nodded before leaving the office. Upon stepping outside, the cool London air hitting her face. “Yeah...going to the dentist...not so bad anymore...”

The London Daily Telegraph of 6 August 1982 carried the news that “a woman walking down a street in Chicago burst into flames for no apparent reason and was burned to death yesterday.” The Chicago police logged the event as a case of spontaneous human combustion, adding it to the “several hundred” cases recorded in recent centuries. In spontaneous human combustion “a person’s body is reduced, sometimes within minutes, to a heap of cinders . . . unusual features are the speed and intensity of the process . . . and the way that it is selectively directed, for example, leaving the extremities of the body unharmed and sometimes not even damaging the clothes encasing the body.”
Unlike most of the phenomena discussed in this book, spontaneous human combustion is (albeit grudgingly) accepted by modern science. Science could hardly do otherwise than accept, in view of the police and medical photographic evidence presented at coroners’ inquests. Dr. Gavin Thurston, a London coroner and editor of the Medico-Legal Journal, writes (in 1961) that “there are undisputed instances where the body was burned in its own substance, without external fuel, and in which there has been a remarkable absence of damage to surrounding inflammable objects.”
[...]
Mrs. Reeser was the widow of a doctor and the mother of a doctor. On the evening of 1 July 1951 she was sixty-seven years of age, in apparent good health, and living in Florida, a few hundred yards from her doctor son. Her son left her at 8:30 that evening, and her landlady Mrs. Carpenter looked in on her at 9 p.m. Mrs. Reeser was then seated in an easy chair, undressed ready for bed. At 5 a.m. Mrs. Carpenter was roused by the smell of burning. She found the doorknob of Mrs. Reeser’s bedroom to be hot, frighteningly hot. When the door was subsequently opened, a blast of heated air rushed out. Mrs. Reeser was, apparently, not in the apartment, and the bed had not been slept in, but closer examination revealed the truth.
Within a blackened circle about four feet in diameter were a number of coiled seat springs, and the remains of a human body. The remains consisted of a charred liver attached to a piece of backbone, a skull shrunk to the size of a baseball, a foot encased in a black satin slipper but burned down to just above the ankle, and a small pile of blackened ashes.
Commenting on the case, Dr. W. M. Krogman, Professor of Physical Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, points out that only at the very high temperature of 3000° F do bones even begin to fuse or melt, let alone disappear altogether. He tells how he has observed a body burn for eight hours in a crematorium at over 2000° F, “yet at the end of that time there was scarcely a bone that was not present and completely recognizable as a human bone . . . they were not ashes and powder as in the case of Mrs. Reeser and numerous other deaths by spontaneous combustion.” He goes on: "Never have I seen a human skull shrunk by intense heat. The opposite has always been true. The skulls either have been abnormally swollen or have virtually exploded into many pieces. . . . I have experimented, using cadaver heads, and have never known an exception to this rule."
Dr. Gavin Thurston wholly supports these views: "To burn a body at an execution, for example, as much as two cart-loads of wood are required: and attempts by criminals to dispose of a body by fire are notoriously unsuccessful . . . this is a well-recognized medico-legal fact."
As Krogman hints, old-fashioned crematoria have to employ someone whose job it is to grind remaining bones to powder after a cremation. Even following industrial fires, let alone house fires, the remains of victims, though terribly charred, are still recognizable as human beings.
In another typical case, nineteen-year-old Maybelle Andrews was dancing with her boyfriend Billy Clifford . . . when flames suddenly burst from her back, chest and shoulders, igniting her hair. She died on the way to hospital. Her boyfriend, who was badly burnt trying to put her out, explained that “there were no open flames in the room—the flames seemed to come from the girl herself.”
In December 1966, in Pennsylvania, a local physician, Dr. John Bentley—or what was left of him—was found by a meter reader, who had his own key to the house. Leaning over a small blackened hole in the bathroom floor was the doctor’s walking aid. “Alongside it was the sole, macabre remains of Dr. Bentley: the lower part of his right leg, browned by the heat, the shoe still intact.” In the room below the hole was a small cone of fine ash, about 13 inches high.

so, i’m supposed to be studying and def not be on social media rn but i am legit tearing up about Martha Jones and what she means to me as a character that i’m just going to try and to write this out so i can hopefully focus
to get one thing straight, Martha Jones is not my favorite character. i started watching DW when I was about twelve and tbh, for years after that i never really connected with her. it’s not too surprising since in terms of background, personality, and life experience (because, come on, i’m a lily white, only child shut in from the deep south) we had next to nothing in common.
but.
out of all the characters that have been on the show, Martha Jones is solidly the one I want to live up to the most.
maybe the reasons why are obvious, but they didn’t really crystallize to me till just now. the main one, for me, is that through out her arc her happiness did not depend on another person. even within her arc where she faced the consequences of her unrequited feelings, she still had this noticeable trait before she even said it out loud.
to go and break it down further, i believe there are several aspects to her personality that are important contributors in this: dedication, responsibility, and strong sense of self worth
dedication: this one seems pretty obvious, since when we are first introduced to Martha we are shown her position as a med student in her last year of residency. everyone with passing knowledge of what it takes to be a doctor knows this isn’t for the faint of heart. knowing just that we can already infer that she’s studious, hard working, and intelligent.
but it goes beyond that, as is continually shown throughout her arc. she becomes know as the “Woman Who Walked the Earth”, a title she got by literally walking around the earth for a year in an apocalyptic hellscape and never once wavering in completing in her mission. she didn’t just join but rose through the ranks of UNIT to the point where she was trusted with the Osterhagen key-quite literally the most important responsibility given to any single person at that point in human history.
and if we are talking about less dramatic examples, kindly take a look where Martha spent months undercover in an incredibly racist time period with absolutely no support despite there being actually no reason beyond Ten needing his little moral moment and yet not only managed to keep her spirits, but also is directly responsible for the Doctor’s plan not being any more of a clusterfuck than it already was. same story with “Blink”, where they both got trapped in the sixties and Martha once more had to stand up and handle things behind the scenes.
next, responsibility: this ties in really well with dedication and it can go double for all the things i listed above. the reason i think this is, is that as a result of her dedication and moral code, Martha tends to take on the problems set before her to the best of her abilities because she sees it as the right thing to do.
but what i really want to look at is Martha’s sense of emotional responsibility, as in not the actions she takes but why she takes them. i feel like this is best seen in how she acts towards her family and is what really sets her apart from the other companions in the series.
because you know what she does? she stays. her family needs her.
and here’s the ringer because name one character, one, since her that makes an active effort to maintain their relationships with their families when the Doctor comes to play. i can’t. really, i can’t
Donna? doesn’t count. she might love her family but when push comes to shove she was willing to die with the Doctor-or more accurately for who she became with the Doctor, than to live her life with them.
Rose? don’t make me laugh. she loves her mother to death, but not enough to choose her first.
Jack? no family to speak of at that point, but look how fast he leaves his friends at the very hint of the Doctor coming back into his life. yes, he has his immortality based reasons but there’s nothing about their scenes that doesn’t scream emotional.
Amy and Rory? i can count on one hand how many times the topic of relatives has come up for Amy and it still leaves me a finger left over for Rory. despite magically getting her parents back in her life she seems awfully unconcerned with their general existence.
i’m also not entirely sure Rory has parents-or even connections, beyond his dad. he might have just sprung up in a field somewhere, and we’d never know. hey, maybe Amy wished him into existence a bit earlier than we all thought.
Clara? i’m almost certain she has parents. almost. like, she had an entire holiday dinner?? i’m pretty sure she mentioned her dad at some point?? but beyond the meet cute of how her parents got together, zilch. nada. she might as well have been an orphan.
Bill? okay she was actually an orphan but i don’t think she actually mentioned or contacted her foster mother after she moved out. not sure this counts tho. the Doctor was dading too hard to say she had no parents.
i admit the newest companions kind of break the mold but I still say it counts since the only familial connection Ryan and Graham try to maintain to between each other and while Yaz might be close to her family her life with the Doctor seems to be taking priority over both her career and how much she spends time connecting with her family.
honestly the only one that even comes close to subverting the pattern is Mickey and the only reason he doesn’t properly is because he didn’t have any living family before going to Pete’s world.
but even in the beginning Martha spends time actively maintaining her relationships with her family members. again, in her first episode we see her playing mediator for her family, and going on we see her doing her best to support her sister, be a good daughter to her mother, and keep her family connected through sheer will power at times. sure, the other companions have shown the appropriate concern when there’s threat to their loved ones lives, but Martha again subverts the mold when it becomes clear that she’s not willing to let them go.
so, back to responsibility.
you tie this with her morals and you get the result of a doctor that gives her last breaths to keep another person alive.
you tie this with her dedication and you get the kind of person who will walk to the ends of the earth if she deems the cause good enough.
and finally, if you tie this with her emotional connections, you have the kind of person that takes the hard, messy work of tying together a somewhat dysfunctional family with her bare hands.
so now we’ve reached a strong sense of self worth: this i think is present in all of her decisions in the show. like, her entire story arc as a companion was ended on the note that she discovered her self worth and that she shouldn’t made to be feeling like she’s second fiddle. but, again, i feel like this is shown clearly throughout her story line even if she didn’t consciously recognize it.
the most obvious example i see on this kind of contrasts with the above one, and it is that Martha leaves. She chooses to go with the Doctor and see what’s out there. It’s not a decision her mother and perhaps the rest of her family would or does approve of and she still makes it.
she also, having taken the not so metaphorical leap of faith, chooses to pursue the Doctor romantically. that is something that i did not appreciate as a kid but respect the hell out of now. the sheer self confidence that it takes to not only approach your crush but pick yourself up after they don’t notice time and time again is absolutely incredible. we stan an absolute legend.
but back to my point, it would’ve been incredibly easy for Martha’s character to have been introduced as the stereotype of one of those people who go into medschool due to parental pressure. it could’ve even been supported by her background with her family and future character arc of discovering her worth.  but all those assertions evaporate the second she comes on screen.
Why? Self worth.
The concept that Martha could be pressured into her path in life is laughable. She perused medicine because she wanted to. It’s her passion. She didn’t have to say it out loud to be clear in her actions.
Her family’s wants and opinions might have some weight because she respects them, but ultimately she doesn’t need their approval to make herself happy. Her teachers, peers and assumed friends at her school also had the same affect.
Martha Jones went with the Doctor because she wanted to, and she stayed because she wanted to as well. Her choices are made to be the most fulfilling to herself. Yes, they are motivated by her responsibilities and dedication to see them through, but that is it-motivated. She does not need to live up to to the things people need from her to have fulfillment.
See the choices she made after she left the Doctor if you want any indication. She enlisted in UNIT because she realized she could do more for the world than just be a doctor, and she decided she wanted to. She got into and out of an engagement because she was in touch with what made her happy and what didn’t. The choices she made during her time with UNIT were ones that she made not because the Doctor would approve-since she knew he wouldn’t, but were ones she reasoned were the best options forward.
And finally, when Martha decided after the near end she didn’t want to be with UNIT anymore, she left and went to find something that she wanted to do more.
i once read an excellent post that made the point that unlike other companions, Martha Jones never needed the Doctor, and it was absolutely right. In the end of the day, Martha Jones never needed anything but her own to hands to go and make the world a better place.
And you know what? At that, she is good.

Note
I respectfully disagree. Your articles have become increasingly negative over the last few months, as if you are discouraging fan creators, making them feel guilty for loving their fandom. You go looking for problems, in a fandom. I take issue with your statement that you are the only outlet that is positively supporting fan creators. You’re a bit full of yourself in that regard. You are definitely NOT the only outlet that supports those of us who create for the fandom community.
We’d like to apologize to our readers for this exceptionally long post.
We literally know of no one else who interviews fanfiction authors and treats them with any sort of respect. If there are other sites or communities, please let us know. We’d love to hear about them! As for the increasing negativity, see below for the actual statistics. You’ll see that your arguments do not hold up.
We began our Relaunch Week as we transitioned from The Lemon Magazine to The Citrus Scale.
“How Stranger Things Ruined My Life”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): The title is clearly a joke. It listed all the wonderful ways that the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy have taught us that women are allowed to demand more of the media and entertainment they consume.
“Chaotic Neutrals: The Walking Dead Edition”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): For the purposes of this exercise, we’re going to say that all critical articles automatically equal negativity. We DO NOT feel this way, nor does any news and media organization, but we talk more about that at the end of this post.
Then we posted a game, a picture of the prize to win that day, and another game the next day.
“Please, Sir, Can I Have Some More?”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): Well, we will preface it by saying that it’s not at all positive if you are a white guy in entertainment who refuses to tell any story that isn’t their own and continually puts women down. If you, Anon, are one of the fanboys who whined and cried when Jodie Whittaker got cast as the new Doctor then #sorrynotsorry. We won’t apologize for calling people out for oppressing minority groups. Not now. Not ever.
“In Defense Of… Self-Inserts”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): It is literally “in defense of” self-inserts and authors who write them. The only thing remotely critical is at the end when we stay if you don’t like this type of work, you aren’t obligated to read it. As an overall tone, it is positive.
“When A Villain Can’t Be Redeemed: A Study In Severus Snape”
Tone: Negative
Note(s): We do not hide our disdain for Severus Snape and his routine abuse of children.
“Adapting Comics For The Screen”
Tone: Informational (Neutral)
Note(s): Again, the only thing that could be considered critical is at the end when we discuss oversaturation in the Marvel fandom and how exhausting such a catalogue of works can be, and that reader/viewer fatigue is very real and you are allowed to take a break if you need it.
“The Fight Against Fiction Censorship”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): We discuss how you, as the reader, should be curating your own experience and how characters are allowed to be morally gray. That these characters do not and should not be automatically deemed as representative of writers’ actual views on sensitive subject matters.
“Get Fridged, B*tch!: The Short Lives of Women in Supernatural”
Tone: Highly Critical
Note(s): We discuss the fact that in the show Supernatural specifically, most women are killed for the character development of their male counterparts. We point out that this is not okay and leads to the accepted convention that this is good writing and not, in fact, incredibly lazy and sloppy.
Then we did six posts, in a row, on our Instagram that were silly, funny, or light-hearted, but we’ll chalk those up to neutral even though they’re definitely more positive than anything. We did Signs as Quotes, Kiss. Marry. Kill., The Alphabet Game, and a D&D alignment chart with characters.
So, at the end of our relaunch week, we were at sixteen (16) informational or neutral, four (4) critical or negative, and three (3) positive, with only one being truly considered negative and not simply critical.

We began our Pensacon 2019 Convention Coverage. We featured three (3) cosplayers we met at the convention, linked their profiles, and not one of our questions was negative. Again, we won’t add them to our positive list, but they definitely count as us being supportive. We know we’re not the only who interviews cosplayers in a positive fashion, but there can always be more. We also included four (4) fanfiction authors. There were other informational, infographic, or neutral articles (like interviews), interspersed between these articles:
“Pensacon 2019 Intro Review” and the “Pensacon 2019 Wrap-Up Review”
Tone: Positive (x2)
Note(s): We had a blast at Pensacon, and will be returning next year as well. All our coverage was overwhelmingly positive.
“Using Fandom To Teach”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): The article states fun ways that you can include fandom in the classroom to help engage the students so they don’t automatically tune you out. It was also a small summary of the panel we saw at the convention, which is clearly referenced. However, all the ideas were original or credited appropriately.
We also had a TWD Trailer Reaction Video. As far as we know, there’s nothing to be seen as negative (unless we were talking about Rosita). If you really, really tried, you could count it negative though, since every single thing we said it in wasn’t nice to all the characters. For those keeping score, we’re at twenty-eight (28) informational or infographic, six (6) positive, and four (4) critical or negative.

We began our Marvel-themed month here. Honestly, we’re getting tired of linking most things, so here’s how Marvel month stacks up.
There were eighteen (18) informational articles or infographics, eleven (11) interviews, four (4) playlists, and two (2) games. This leaves us with thirty-five (35) neutral articles.
“AUs Becoming Original Fiction”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): This article featured information on how to possibly transform an AU fanfic into original fiction, if you so desire. It included examples of popular fiction that had done just that.
“Faithfulness in Adaptations”
Tone: Neutral
Note(s): We list the ways why it’s okay to like both and that one isn’t superior to the other.
“Being First Doesn’t Mean Going It Alone”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): It was written shortly after seeing Avengers: Endgame and was a glowing recommendation of the movie due to the girl power scene. However, upon further reflection we realized that thirty minutes of representation in an almost three hour movie isn’t as good as we thought it was and several other things caused the movie, as a whole, to miss the mark. As it relates to this article, though, it was positive.
“The MCU and Buffet-Style Representation”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): We criticize Marvel’s lack of representation and how they are continually putting down any fan interpretation that sees a character as homosexual. We do end it on a positive note by saying we’re going to hold out on passing final judgment since they are promising to do better soon. We’re middling at best here, so we’ll say critical.
“In Defense Of… Steve Rogers’ Happy Ending”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): We simply state that Steve is allowed to be happy and that him being miserable shouldn’t be his only real characterization or arc.
“The Importance of Fan Service”
Tone: PositiveNote(s): This one is about the importance of fans feeling like valued members of their community by original content creators, and how it only adds positively to the overall experience of fandom.
“Rule 34: The Rise of Super Sex”
Tone: Informational
Note(s): It doesn’t take a stance either way regarding how we, as an organization, feel about this practice, though it could be seen as more comedic since there are many, many sex puns.
“The Squick Factor: WinterPrincess”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): We break down a controversial ship in the Marvel fandom and explain why it shouldn’t be seen that way, based on the arguments given from inside the Marvel fandom itself.
“Trope Scope: The Isolation of Being Super”
Tone: Informational
Note(s): We explain the lonely superhero trope and how to use it in your own writing.
“All the Feels: Standing Up For What’s Right”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): It’s called ‘All the Feels’, so… yeah.
“Get Fridged, B*tch!: Marvel Edition”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): Again, we take a stance against using women as plot devices to further male character development. Marvel has a lot of characters, so it was easy to come up with examples. We’d like to note that we defend Stan Lee in this one as he wasn’t for fridging Gwen Stacy.
“You Need To Calm Down: And Other Advice From Taylor Swift”
Tone: Highly Critical
Note(s): We wrote an article in response to another from Hypable.com, where we defend binge-watching television, new or old, and list all the ways it isn’t a bad thing. As always, the responses and points in this article were well-researched and thought out.
“Women Behaving Badly: Why the Movie Hustlers Is Important”
Tone: Positive
Note(s): We can’t wait to see this movie and talk about why showing women doing the same thing as men, even if it isn’t prim and proper, is a good thing and helps us gain more equality in entertainment and in representation.
“#NoHomo YouTube Video”
Tone: Critical
Note(s): We take Marvel to task over Avengers: Endgame and we still have no desire to apologize for it. If you’d like to know why, please watch the video linked above. We can also send the talking points, if that makes it easier to follow.
So, at the end of six weeks, which brings us to today, we were at sixty-three (63) informational or infographic, twelve (12) positive to ten (10) critical or negative.
If you came to a different conclusion, we’d love to hear your reasons as to why. However, all we ask is that if you want to make accusations about our overall tone, you be able to back it up, as we did. It seems to us, and anyone paying attention, that we are overwhelmingly informational first. The problem seems to be that any time we are remotely critical of a character, original content creator, or a fandom, we are marked as negative. Which, frankly, is not true. We are a news and media organization. We are allowed to interpret things in a light other than positive. We will continue to bring our readers as much fandom-related content as possible and we promise to be truthful and to never sugarcoat anything. We also pledge to be respectful always.
If there are any other concerns, we urge you to send them to our ask box as this anon did. Understand, though, that critiquing us does not mean we will blow up, act foolish, or remain anything other than responsible fandom members. We have receipts to back up everything we do, so don’t assume we’ll take accusations lying down either. We welcome all criticism and will apologize where necessary. This just wasn’t one of those times.

RIP Shane Rimmer (28.5.1929 - 29.3.2019)
Like several of his fellow countrymen (Neil McCallum, Paul Maxwell, and Cec Linder among them) Shane Rimmer - who has died at the age of 89 - was a Canadian who made his home in Britain, playing Americans. In a career that lasted sixty years he provided stalwart support on television and in films, whilst becoming one of the go-to voice artists of his generation.
Born in 1929, Rimmer's background was international from the very beginning; his father, Thomas Rimmer, was an Irishman who moved to New York and married an English expat, Vera Franklin. The two relocated to Toronto and had two children, Shane and his sister Noreen. The young Rimmer was known for his voice from an early age, quickly establishing himself as a singer and DJ on Canadian radio. His first brush with television came in 1958, as he became the host of musical programme Come Fly With Me.
In 1959 he took his first trip to the UK, travelling the country as part of a singing trio. By 1962 he was touring the world, entertaining US troops stationed abroad. It was on one such trip that he met Sheila Logan, a dancer: the two were married in 1963, and were to remain together for the rest of his life. The couple settled in London, where Sheila gave up dancing to become Shane's agent. After a slow start, his acting career was beginning to take off.
His most notable early roles were in Stanley Kubrick's Dr Strangelove (1964), as Slim Pickens' co-pilot Captain 'Ace' Owens, and a recurring role in BBC soap opera Compact (1962 - 1965). This TV exposure led to a slew of guest spots: there was The Saint and Ghost Squad in 1964, the following year Danger Man, and a memorable turn in Doctor Who (3.7, The Gunfighters, 1966). In most of these appearances Rimmer played Americans; there was a limited number of American actors working in the UK at this time, but several Canadians had made their home here and found a niche playing their neighbours to the South on British TV. Some, like Donald Sutherland, would eventually move to the States, and bigger and better things; Shane was in London for the long haul, and so had a ready income of parts available.
In 1964, Gerry Anderson began production on what was to be his most successful and enduring series: Thunderbirds (ITC, 1965 - 1966). Like his financial backer, ITC's Lew Grade, Anderson always had an eye towards transatlantic sales - as such, he decided to make his heroes American and to cast actors who could convincingly perform American accents. As was typical at the time, the majority of the cast were in fact Australian and Canadian; Rimmer, who had been noticed by producers for his work on Compact, was given the role of eldest brother and pilot of Thunderbird 1 Scott Tracy. He may not have been seen on screen, but the role brought Shane genre immortality, as well as an enduring working relationship with Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. He went on to voice numerous minor characters, uncredited, in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (1967 - 1968), Joe 90 (1968 - 1969) and The Secret Service (1969), and contributed scripts to all three series. In front of the cameras, he continued to put in guest appearances in the likes of The Persuaders! (1971), The Protectors (1973), Hadleigh (1976) and, working for the Andersons again, episodes of UFO (1970 - 1971) and Space 1999 (1975 - 1976).
Having settled into the role of character actor, Shane spent the next few decades plugging away in both film and television. There were some big hitters; uncredited roles in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), Superman (1978) and Gandhi (1983), as well as some meatier roles in Warlords Of The Deep (1978), The Hunger (1983) and a supporting role in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), assisting Roger Moore's Bond in taking down the bad guys. On television there were notable roles in Oppenheimer (1980), A Very British Coup (1988) and Coronation Street (1988); an earlier appearance on the series had gained him notoriety, when he gunned down beloved character Stan Ogden.
Shane continued acting for the rest of his life, keeping especially busy in voice work; in recent years he worked on the Thunderbirds revival (2015) and had a recurring guest role on The Amazing World Of Gumball (2014 - 2017). He also found the time to write a novel, an autobiography and to record narration for the official Nasa guided tour at Cape Canaveral. A life-long friend of American expat Ed Bishop - himself a regular contributor to Gerry Anderson's shows - the two good humouredly dubbed themselves the 'Rent-a-Yanks' of British television. A popular guest at conventions and a tireless worker, Rimmer leaves an enviable filmography. He is survived by wife Sheila and their three sons.

8, 10, 17, 28?
8.Your oldest ship; the one you’ve shipped for the longest time?
Hmm I’m pretty sure it’s Xena/Gabrielle? I was, uh, probably too young to be watching Xena but I enjoyed the heck out of it, and it’s influenced my shipping tastes a lot.
10. Is there a ship that makes your skin crawl?
Batman/Robin, in general. (Unless, like, Cass is Batman and Steph is Robin.) Batman/Joker unless it’s Telltale.
I never thought there’d be a Doctor/Master pairing that did this, but Thirteen/Simm!Master sure does.
Can we PLEASE leave Charles’ crush on Jean in the sixties where it belongs. (It was one throwaway line Stan Lee never even referenced again PLEASE LET IT DIE.)
17. Is there a type of ship you always go for?
FRENEMIES. It’s just hilariously consistent at this point. Oh no, they were best friends but now they’re on opposite sides, SAGE IS DOOMED.
(This also fits into a broader theme of, well, contrasts. People who are so different, but still understand and respect each other, even if they still clash. People who can both challenge and complement each other, when they’re not being total disasters.)
It’s not as much of a sure thing, but I’m also very fond of battle couples, star-crossed lovers, and
28. Is there a character you have several ships for?
Most of my faves, honestly. I’m a huge multishipper and so many ships appeal to me - especially in something like superhero comics, where there are so many relationships to choose from.
The one I have the most ships for is...probably Babs? Dinah, Dick, Ted, Helena, Renee, Kara (pre-Crisis)...
