I have an idea for a story I want to try to create in The Sims, but it works just as well as a genuine idea for a comedy. So let me give you the pitch: an alien from the farthest known reaches of space crash lands in a house owned by a married couple and their two young children. Taking him in, he becomes a new, eagerly accepted member of the household. He lives in their furnished basement, while the rest of the family gets the two floors upstairs. It's an unconventional living situation, but it works for them.
In true awkward sitcom fashion, however, our alien protagonist has to try and hide his identity from all the earthlings outside the house (all while also learning about the strange new world all around him). Permanently hiding behind his futuristic technology (which cloaks him in a human disguise), our alien begins working on restoring his spaceship so he can return to his home planet. But as he works, he begins falling in love with the planet earth. More specifically, he falls in love with an awkward earthling who's aspiring to become a popular stand up comedian.
Introducing himself to this new human while in his human disguise, eventually the two of them end up dating. But our alien hasn't ever revealed his true identity to his partner, and his new earth family are beginning to struggle as they cover for him. And also, the spaceship our alien crash landed in has been sending out distress flares this whole time, and now his family from space is coming to rescue him. How will all of these moving parts come into conflict? Is a happy ending possible, or are our two lovebirds fated to never be together? If this were a real sitcom, you'd have to tune in to find out. And the show would get at least 5-6 seasons.

for the ask game (3)
au where all robins develop a mental link after fighting some magical criminal of the week. what would they see in each other's minds? what secrets and repressed feelings do they discover? how would they deal with it?
for the ask game!
oooh, i love telepathic links that end up revealing secrets. especially with a family like the Batfam, who are usually so convinced they're good enough at reading each other to not have many secrets kept. so weird reveals are always fun
if i did this, i'd do DamiTim. just because of all the like, "deep dark feelings that are being hidden" for Robin shipping, DamiTim is the most fun for me. you expect DickTim or DickJay or JayTim, even DamiDick. but there's something that's so enjoyable about Damian having his feelings forcibly outted. not just to Tim, but to everyone. the way it'd be an active landmine none of them knowing what to say but all feeling each other's reactions. i honestly think Damian would try to punch somebody about it. (also, if you do a history of TImSteph where they've had sex, Damian would be directly linked to Steph's memories of how Tim was in bed, so that's fun as both something horrifying and enlightening just to screw with his feelings some more.) would they end up together? in my head probably, but it'd be weird and likely toxic bc how do you date someone you know inside out and know exactly what they think of all your flaws and what parts of you they obsess over. the answer is not very well but hey, the sex is good-
i think Jason *directly* feeling how everyone felt about his death would really rock him. he's heard all the apologies, but part of him isn't convinced there's truth to them. so to be crushed by Dick's *grief* over his death would be a come to jesus moment for him. but on the less fun flipside, you have him feeling how Dick feels about him *now*. because Dick doesn't really *like* Jason and deep down, sees Jason as a lost cause. that's his "deep dark secret". and Jason would feel and know that from the one person who he still wants to believe in him. i really do think Jason would have the Worst Time with all this, overwhelmed with everyone's intimate and complex feelings over his death. Jason is a very defensive person when it comes to his death and how reactionary he gets when other people make it about them, not him. so for Jason to have to constantly deal with that in his head, i truly do think he'd lash out a bit. the arguments. yelling at Dick and feeling Dick's guilt and snapping bc Dick has no right to feel guilty now. feeling that Tim viewed Jason as a failure. it's just a damaging mindspace to be in and man do i think Jason would take a While to recover.
oddly though, i think it'd be a good bonding moment for Steph and Jason. we really don't get much exploration of Steph and Jason bonding over dying. bc sure, Steph didn't actually die, but she *did* experience the social death where everyone believed she was dead and mourned her as such for a good while. she also felt *directly* responsible for her own death. a lot of blame falls on Steph for War Games (for the Doylist reasons of sexism but yk) and Jason feels responsible for his own death for walking into a trap. but unlike Jason, Steph had no suit in a case, no memorials, her name held no infamy. so i think she deserves just a bit of righteous fury about how dramatic Jason can be while she just has to move on bc hey, it's not like she *really* died. and she buries those feelings well, but not well enough to hide them from a mental link. and Jason, who hasn't really considered Steph before because he was so wrapped up in his complex over Tim, confronts those feelings with her. if anyone is going to know how he feels, it's going to be her. you could do it platonic or romantic, but i do think when Jason sinks to his lowest, she's the one who snaps him out of it, both with tough love and genuine compassion for his situation.
for the less serious crack of it all: they're all going to have far too intimate knowledge of each other's sex lives. everyone's gonna know Dick has fucked Slade. everyone's gonna know Jason has fucked Talia. in my heart, i believe Tim has slept with Anarky (Lonnie, not Ulysses) and everyone would *know* that too. absolute judgment all around. it's the spider-man meme of "wait you've done WHAT with WHO" and honestly, it gives a nice distraction for the more serious feelings. it's a palette cleanser they can default to. like when the fighting gets a little too serious and they're cutting too deep for comfort, someone's going to blurt out "well at least i didn't fuck Deathstroke." and the whole moment goes awry with laughter. bc i do think, at the end of it once they get through the worst of the angst, they'd be closer for it and self-aware of the ridiculous nature of all this. it's enlightening, in a way to see how they all felt about their time as Robin and the baggage/trauma they hold. even the ugliest feelings they hold for each other don't completely suffocate the fondness/respect.
that said, knowing the baggage/trauma. oof. i don't think Dick has ever fully opened up about his history with Mirage/Tarantula/Liu and now it's forced to sit in the open. Damian has never admitted the worst of being raised in the League. Tim hasn't fully faced the suffocating image of his dead father and his deep-seated want to kill Boomerang. all those ugly truths they stamp down bc well, either you're a vigilante or you're a well adjusted person, are out in the open now. and it's ugly and gruesome to force those thoughts to be shared. they all want to comfort each other for different reasons, while simultaneously not wanting their own trauma to be acknowledged. it'd be fun to see who'd instinctively react to whose trauma first. because it's an overwhelming rush of information, and you just naturally get pulled in certain directions. i think Damian would react to Dick's history of sexual abuse first, whereas Jason would be reacting to the murderous rage TIm is trying to fight off. Tim is reacting to just how much guilt Steph carries about War Games and all of it is very crunchy. there's so much they'd all have to talk about and it'd take days for them to address it all, between the arguments about the ugly parts. would they come out stronger for it? yes. but only if they didn't kill each other in the process. i hesitate to do a "and they come out one big happy family" ending, bc it's not very in canon, but i do think the bond of the Robin mantle is something special. even when the link is broken, they hold onto a freakish understanding of each other. they react and move in sync, can fight together without needing words. are they emotionally on the same page/have they forgiven each other for the worst of it? absolutely not. but they've got each other backs. it's a very much "if you called i'd drop everything to save you. but also we don't have it in us to hang out casually." bond, which i think is deeply underrated in fanfiction. sometimes, you can care about people but you have to do it from a distance.
#necrotic festerings#damitim#potential jaysteph#sladick#batcest#i actually really love this. i might try to write it.#like there are SO many complex interpersonal things happening and god it's good.#also writing this reminds me of tags you put on the post about batfamily fanon#where you said you shipped jaytalia noting how I critiqued it in the meta#and i never got to clarify but i do actually think jaytalia *could* be fun#it's just one of those ships that falls into the “i love the concept but i don't think i'd enjoy it in canon” category for me!#esp the way it was handled in lost days bc it dropped out of NOWHERE and felt ooc given talia's motivations#and i love shipping it but *only* using it for a “jason fucked damian's mom joke” always irks me bc. lord get new material yk#those are my thoughts on that anywya#this is so crunchy. forced mental links as a plot device. aways so good.#like the end result would be messy as fuck but in a loving way#the batfam can love each other fiercely without having sitcom movie night type moments yk#bc their bond isn't domestic it's shaped by their vigilante lives#they know each other as vigilantes first so like. they struggle to connect as normal ppl even if they love each other#and know each other that personally#it's nuanced. it's fun.

I KNOW RIGHT I'm unfathomably sad that there are so few fics taking a look at Kaito growing up like Toichi "I'll become an intenationally renowned thief on this fine Parisian afternoon" Kuroba and CHIKAGE got together n made sure that their son grew up with all the skills to be a menace when the kid didn't even KNOW they were thieves? u could make a whole-ass sitcom out of that yet there's nobody talking abt it like :( sad
NO SERIOUSLY!!! you get it. you get it. they’re so funny. it’s a travesty that we don’t have this sitcom
kaito literally had to go through pretty much zero training to become kaitou kid bc his parents taught him everything he needed to know to be a phantom thief……. before he was 8 years old. kaito 100% grew up thinking that knowing how to pick locks and escape handcuffs was normal. toichi and chikage ALSO probably thought they were being normal. “what? aoko, you mean you haven’t gone through The Deadly Parkour Gauntlet with your dad yet? pssh don’t worry about it, we can do it together the next time my mom is home” like.
family bonding activities include friendly magic shows, “how long can we convince everyone at the park that we’re well-known celebrities,” and “fastest person to steal nakamori’s badge wins a cookie”
ppl in his 2nd grade class are like “man I’m grounded again” and kaito’s like “ugh me too” and the other kids go “what did you do” and he goes “oh y’know. I forgot where the creaky floorboards are in the house, so I made too much noise during silent magic practice” and the other kids are just like. you. you what. during What practice
#they're kinda like a reverse spy x family now that im thinking about it#i may write for this whole concept once ive finished Ditto#they are so beloved to me#dcmk#magic kaito#mk#schrasks#kuroba family sitcom

Inspired by the "fairy vs walrus surprise" poll
(I replaced fairy with Greek deity because it is less broad and more people will be familiar with their common behavior.)
Would also be happy to see people's ranking of those options.

Remember my Sims 4/Sitcom story idea post? If you don't, I just reblogged it. And if you do, here's a continuation to it. Meet the five main characters (at least as of the series premiere), the McLellan family!
Hasure Udonda/Hector McLellan: Our alien and leading protagonist. Hector is a shy, socially awkward man, befuddled by the weird world of earth society. He's not a bad man, but he is lost and confused. He dresses incredibly out of place for a modern man, he talks like a robot sometimes, he tries to fit in but doesn't do a great job of it. His adoptive earth family adores him, because he is a kind man who grows to care about them all. But he is also a man who wants to get back home to his parents and family, so he's really caught in a dilemma.
When Hector eventually falls for the budding entertainer who nobody else seems to appreciate, he becomes even more conflicted about what to do with his life. As he falls in love and gains a boyfriend on earth, he doesn't know how he could possibly be expected to leave earth behind and abandon his adoptive family and his boyfriend. In the end, he gets so lost and conflicted that only his alien parents coming to him can help him solve the dilemma. He's truly a man divided between worlds.
Martin McLellan: Martin McLellan is a family man, deeply in love with his wife Jeannie. But Martin's commitments to his family are sometimes strained, since he's also a scientist working at the town observatory. Some people in town deride him as a kook, but Martin is so sincere and kind that nobody can ever actually hate him. They mind consider him a loon, but they'd never call him a jerk or evil or unkind. Nobody can speak of unkind word of Martin, he's just so sincerely optimistic and good hearted.
Martin is the reason Hector gets taken in by the family. Martin saw Hector's spaceship hurtling towards earth through the observatory telescope, and he tracked the path of the ship until he managed to find it out in the new mexico flats. There, he helped extricate Hector from the crash site and led him to his family's new home. Martin was so excited he couldn't help but enthuse about it to his wife and kids. A real life spaceman! With them! Martin had always been dreaming of this moment, but he never thought it'd actually come! And all because he took this new job in New Mexico, uprooting his family from their home in Minneapolis.
But Martin's the one responsible for helping renovate the house to include Hector. He's also the one who most loves having Hector around. Him and Hector frequently exchange knowledge and information, and Hector even helps Martin out at his workplace in exchange for help getting back home. They grow to have a really deep bond, and it's really something to behold once the two of them have started talking about science to each other.
Jeannie McLellan: Jeannie McLellan is the homemaker of the family. A lover of all things gourmet, Jeannie was a high profile chef in Minneapolis when she happened to see some of the waitstaff at her restaurant bad-mouthing a customer for his eccentric habits. This customer ended up being Martin, and it made Jeannie fall in love at first sight. Rushing to his defense, she successfully defended his honour. And then an average night at work quickly became a first date with the weird alien obsessed scientist living in town.
One thing led to another, and Martin and Jeannie became proud parents to two adorable children. Both of them adore their children, and they love gushing about them to anyone who'll listen. But lately, Martin and Jeannie have been struggling with their relationship. Jeannie feels stifled at home, since she's permanently bound to the role of homemaker and mother. She wants to be a chef again, damn it! She wants to make delicious food for the people again! So when Martin moves the whole family to New Mexico for his work, it's almost the last straw in their relationship. They still love each other dearly, but they don't know how to make it work.
It's into this situation that Hector the strange alien visiter arrives. With Hector now there to help with the kids, Jeannie successfully persuades her husband to let her go back into being a chef again. So by the end of Season One of the TV show, Jeannie is successfully running and operating her own restaurant again. But now she's not just a leading cook. Now she's a lady who's 100% in charge of her own business! And to think, it never would've happened without Hector…
Although Hector initially doesn't get along with Jeannie (food on his homeworld is very different from food on earth, and he once accidentally insulted her cooking), the two of them slowly became like family to each other. It's slower than it was with Martin, but by the end of Season One or Two, Hector and Jeannie are pretty much family just the same.
Darrin McLellan: Darrin McLellan is the oldest of Martin and Jeannie's two children. Ten years old at the start of the show, Darrin is almost the complete opposite of his father. Lonely and pessimistic, Darrin dresses in almost all black (or at least black and white). He's only nine, but he acts like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. An oddly intelligent kid, but one burdened by a melancholy far beyond his years.
Hector coming into the family actually turns out to be really beneficial for Darrin's development, since they're both just as shy and socially awkward as each other. An alien from the far reaches of space and a lonely nine year old boy end up far closer than anybody would've ever suspected. Hector almost grows to see Darrin as his real nephew. When Hector learns Darrin was bullied at school for being different, he almost ends up using his technology to take revenge on the bullies. Darrin talks him down, but the two of them might be the closest members of the family (even closer than Hector and Martin).
Samantha McLellan: Samantha McLellan is the youngest member of the McLellan household. Only seven years old when the show begins, Samantha is a very sporting and sociable young girl. In contrast to her brother Darrin, Samantha is a complete social butterfly. She has almost dozens of friends. People just love her. She's a sweet girl who's nice to everybody, and she makes herself well known amongst the community. Her family has only been living in New Mexico for about a month, and already Samantha has friends all over the neighborhood.
When Hector joins the family, Samantha takes it upon herself to try and introduce him to earth culture at large. Since she's only seven years old, she almost completely overwhelms Hector with information. She makes him stress and awkwardly force himself to be something he's not, but she doesn't do it intentionally. She's just a seven year old girl with far too much energy on her hands. It's not her fault Hector seems to enjoy spending more time with Darrin.
But even though Samantha initially feels like Hector loves Darrin more than her, that would be disproven by the end of the first season. At the season finale (maybe around the 30 episode mark), Hector helps set up Samantha's birthday party, and even buys her a gift straight from the heart (with deep meaning and sentimental value). And in that moment, Samantha finally realizes Hector loves her like a member of his alien family (thus wrapping up a season long storyline).
PS: If you know what Martin, Jeannie, Darrin and Samantha are all referencing, them congratulations! You know about as much tv show trivia as me, someone who's read wikipedia pages on way too many old american sitcoms. And you get commendations for recognizing my little joke.

the way i see it: in the universe between worlds where all the slashers hang out regardless of original film timelines or copyright issues, freddy and jason probably aren't friends because their only canon cinematic appearance together has them fighting most of the time but after getting over that they'd probably develop a kind of tacit understanding as two of the most instantly recognized horror film icons out there. still don't hang out much but they can commiserate over not having any film appearances in the last 15 years, leaving them stuck in this limbo which is probably where they go to hang out with all the other slashers who aren't currently starring in movies. jason and michael are definitely friends, i think they'd respect each other. they're kind of both part of the old guard of original slashers who established what the genre was, and even though they have notably different backgrounds and motivations, they have enough in common that they'd get along well in here. jason and leatherface would definitely 100% be friends (maybe more...imagine) because even if the one tie-in comic featuring them together was to be frank not very good, at least it got that right. they would probably hang out the most in slasher limbo dimension but if jason met the family (and i mean the actual characters from the first movie, not...whatever was going on in those comics) i can't see that going well, even if they are more accepting of outsiders who also happen to be killers. besides i feel like this dimension is for slashers who are the face of their franchise only, and any supporting characters even other villains are residing back in their home dimension most of the time. they probably have ways to visit each other, though. michael and leatherface have a similar quiet respect for each other as the og 70s slashers themselves, but they're more casual acquaintances than anything.
freddy mostly hangs out with the other loudmouth wisecracking fully voiced slashers, like chucky (they regularly switch between being bros and being at each other's throats) and ghostface, who i can only imagine as the original billy and stu duo even though everyone who wears the mask probably ends up there at some point once they die in their movies. billy and stu were kind of in awe of everybody else when they first arrived and were largely seen as the annoying tagalong new kids for a while but now that scream has been around long enough to be considered one of the classic slashers despite the gap in release dates between it and most of the others, they've been accepted into the fold. the various ghostfaces are now in that idolized position for a lot of the new slashers who show up, which is a bit of a trip to realize.
no one knows what the rules are exactly for what qualifies you as a slasher and grants you access to this place. sometimes various other horror villains show up and say hi and nobody can dispute if they should be there or not. sometimes hannibal lecter is there. sometimes pinhead and the other cenobites are there and it seems like they'd rather not be but they're not going to say anything about it. maybe they're in hell (as in, the hell dimension that the cenobites come from in hellraiser, which may or may not be actual hell by the theological definition) or maybe it's some kind of dream realm thing, which has brought slashers together before.
the one who's been here the longest is norman bates and all i can say about that is that even though his movie has had three sequels in color, i can only imagine him appearing in grayscale whenever he interacts with the other slashers like he stepped out of a black-and-white movie while everyone else is in full color
#slashers#horror movies#that post i made earlier...my 13-year-old creepypasta fan self remains very fond of this concept#i just like imagining the logistics of what it would be like.#you could make a fanfic or a fan comic out of this but it would probably mostly just be sitcom-level jokes#and an attempt at a plot that fizzles out shortly after starting it because you didn't really have a plan for this beyond the basic premise#not that i'm speaking from experience or anything...at least not about This concept in particular...#thinking about slashers as characters in their own right is just really interesting to me#because a lot of the time they aren't really supposed to be characters so much as a threat. a force of nature you have to survive#but some of them become iconic and they get merch and collectible figurines and marketable plushies.#so you have to acknowledge there's something there#...anyway i have a post about daemon headcanons in the works which based on the 0 notes my first post about that got#i'm assuming lots of people would love to see (too bad i'm posting it anyway)

There is so much potential in Patty being included in Sparda family interactions post-DMC 5. Her and Nero will have a chaotic and interesting cousins dynamic. Then there's Vergil having to learn how to be an uncle alongside Dante learning. Then there's Vergil and Dante learning how to be the ultimate dads together after one just found out he has a kid and the other might just (hopefully) be on his way to being more emotionally open and accepting that Patty has adopted him as her dad. There is just so much potential.
SO MUCH POTENTIAL YEAH
Honestly, I've always liked the idea of the twins being forced to ban together to even have a chance at being functional father figures. Vergil has no idea how to respond to ANYTHING Nero does, but Dante known him for 6 years, he can offer some advice. And Vergil can help Dante pull his head out of his ass by being brutally observant and honest with him, it's great. They are both trying to remember how their mom dealt with their stupidity daily when Nero and Patty go do mischievous cousin things together. True sitcom energy.
#eva was a saint guys raising twins by yourself sounds absolutely exhausting#also sparda definitely compared raising the twins to hell during the terrible two's#seriously tho the concept of two brothers trying to be good dads to their kids together sounds like a disney channel sitcom#only this one would have more stabbing#dmc#dmc nero#devil may cry#dmc dante#dante sparda#dmc vergil#dmc anime#dmc patty#patty lowell#nero sparda#vergil sparda#demon instincts go brrrr

fuller house yay or nay?
It's a yes from me but you gotta be mindful of what you're watching lmao and not approach it with big expectations. May I also rec the article "Whatever Happened to Predictability?": Fuller House, (Post)Feminism, and the Revival of the Family-Friendly Viewing, a really interesting look at the revival/reboot tv wave that hit the tv & streaming landscape in the late 2010s, and what it meant trying to carry over Full House's family-friendly thank-goodness-it's-friday style into the 21st century. Also the hypocrisy of this attempt and the programme.
#replies#Fuller House announcement was great for people who used to dream of working on a sitcom that had weekly live tapings (me)#like it was very cool to see this concept spring to life once more#it's also a good show for people who can appreciate decent 90s sitcom acting that has no place otherwise anymore. like CCB was really good#at this even tho literally everything else about her. is not.#but I digress.
