my year in fic: 2024!

Thank you so much for tagging me @sitp-recs! I loved putting this little roundup together. I struggled a bit this year, creatively - I think because I had such a massive output in 2023 (226k words 😱) I was going through burnout and also feeling like I couldn't quite live up to the longfics I had posted the previous year. But putting this together, and realising I've written 120k words, I'm actually really surprised - and happy! I've done a real mix of pairings, too.

I look forward to 2025 - I'm planning to take part in Kinkuary again, and I have a few other projects up my sleeve including my first Drarry (long) 8th year fic, a collab, and a follow-up fic to a Drarry I've already published. I'm determined to go into next year with a clear and positive head and continue to stick to writing (and sharing!) what I love!

This fucking fic! Sirius behaves SO badly. So badly! It's so hot. It's so human. It's so compelling. I'm obsessed with this world. I couldn't stop thinking about this fic for weeks. 12k and everyone is so deeply, beautifully characterized, and there's this wonderful background hum of so many different characters and relationships. (Past Remus/Sirius haunting them! Sirius's past coke addiction haunting them! Ginny!)

In Honor of the fact that I starting to writing and posting HP fics to AO3 roughly 4 years ago (it was this month), I am going to pick my five favorite Sirry fics.

Return From The Veil - When Sirius falls through the veil, he's met with James, Lily and Regulus, who give him a mission to protect Harry throughout the rest of the war (and their lives). or. In a world where Sirius doesn't actually die but returns out of the veil looking like he's sixteen, he relishes the chance to support Harry through the toughest times of their lives and struggles with falling in love with his godson along the way as they fight the school and the second wizarding war.

2. Companionship - Between Fourth and Fifth year, Sirius visits Harry one night to help him run away. Nine years later, Harry's living in the Muggle World and working as an escort under an assumed name. He's about to meet his all-time favorite client, unware that he's the godfather Harry lost touch with all those years ago.

3. Path to Recovery - Ten years since he's died, ten years, but he'd always knew he'd return. Eight years after the war, Harry's living life in the muggle world with his son-godson, and there's only one thing he's missing - the man he's been dreaming about, the man who's been dead for ten years, and the man who's about to return to him.

4. Take Care of Me - Sirius loves to take care of Harry, buying him anything he wants and waiting patiently for Harry to realize he's basically Sirius' sugar baby and want all that it entails.

5. Take a Hint - It takes a surprising amount of time for Harry to get a clue on the fact that he's bent, but after he does, he decides to go after the man of his fancies: Sirius - only Sirius doesn't appear to take the hint.

I'm Sol, and I've been in various fandoms for most of my life, though it's been a while since I was active.

My current fandom is Prongsfoot. Just Prongsfoot. And Moonchaser. Not that it has a fandom. If you see Prongsfoot in anything I do, it's *~*ROMANTIC*~* unless otherwise stated.

I've never been part of fandom Twitter/TikTok, so I missed the zeitgeist. I'm not into Wolfstar, Jegulus, Blackcest or whatever you call Snape/Sirius. I'll happily take recs if they don't include the above and aren't ATYD/ATYD-adjacent. Golden Trio-era, I'm not into Drarry, Sirry, Snarry or Tomarry, though it's been a while since I've read anything from that period.

I have many headcanons, but I tend to hew close to canon unless going full AU. Even then I try to stay close to canon personalities, as I see them.

Harry/Ron, things like this fic by @writcraft and this post suggest that friends to lovers might be in fact the ultimate trope. it took me so long to get into the idea of them as a romantic ship, and even longer to start reading it because I’m picky af, but after I did they started living rent free in my head and there’s no way back. rip liv 🤡

3. Harry/Ron/Draco because I really wanted to include a triad, also a bit picky about them but @tackytigerfic’s foundational Aim For My Heart punched me in the solar plexus with feelings (ugh!!!), and I can’t really resist the pull now that @dronarryfest exists. I’ll take this chance to also mention my love for Dron which has superb fics like this and this, a really fun and refreshing ship with its own brand of humor and angst.

4. Harry/Sirius, look I’m a simple woman with simple fandom needs and age gap covers most of them lol I don’t read it very often but I ache for the angst potential of those hotdirtywrong vibes & delicious want x guilt moral dilemma that our Sirry champion @lqtraintracks explores so well. orrr we can go the hot & sweet route and still get ruined by tender wall sex, how dare you @maesterchill
