my sirius & harry thought of the day:

harry kept that firebolt alive for all 137 years of his remaining life through sheer willpower and magical strength. he did not let a single twig of it die off. not only was he absolutely unhinged about taking care of it, not letting anyone near it after 5th year, but he also basically single-handedly reinvented the field of broom-crafting just so he could keep his godfather’s gift to him alive. he didn’t do anything with this skill, basically driving everywhere who knew him spare bc !!! ‘harry do u know what u just did? most brooms don’t last over 6-7 years, not even a fraction of that if used at the pace and frequency as u. if u could just—‘

and he just flat out shuts them up bc how does he tell them that the reason his firebolt is still alive is bc sirius’ love runs thru it and harry would die himself before he let it bc he can’t lose the last piece of sirius he has left. he cannot perform this miracle on any other broom, tho he can probably make the single best non-sirius-gifted broom that the WW has ever seen just bc of how extensive his knowledge is now

and the thing, right, is he doesn’t keep the firebolt locked up in some display like some artefact. sirius would’ve never wanted that. his dad would’ve hated it. brooms were meant to be flown. so fly, he does. wonderfully. it’s forever his primary broom and he puts it thru all the paces, keeping up with all sorts of newer, flashier, pro models w utter ease.

it’s like this: when he uses this firebolt, it feels like perhaps he has his godfather back for just a second. and harry is forever weak to that feeling.

Okay I know for the most part everyone agrees with me about this but I need to say it myself...

REGULUS BLACK IS EVERYTHING!

HE DOES NOT GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES!

I mean this guy who grew up in an abusive home (I like to think it was more mental abuse at least for Reg is it because I relate to that...pshhh what are you talking about?) like that in and of its self is so hard to bounce back from, I cannot even fathom thinking about the lies he told himself everyday. The nights he spent up silently sobbing cause he cannot dare wake anyone up or it'll be worse. I try not to think of the days he walked into Sirius bedroom after he left just wishing his older brother was there still wishing he had a bed to crawl into after he had a nightmare or just having the knowledge someone who was on his side was sleeping next door.

When you are trained to believe and think and act in a certain way it is so hard to pull yourself from it and see the faults and the fact that he was even able to do that is miraculous, but he not only did that he STAYED in the abusive environment to try and bring it all down.

and the fact that he didn't go to anyone even Dumbledore about this cause we all know he would've taken out little snake and put him down the disposal

Like he did this all and flipping DIED for it, yet people praise Snape (I am gonna do a whole other rant about that vile person creature later don't you worry)

Regulus Black was a HERO and it will forever break my heart that Sirius died before he could find out what Regulus did. Like canonically Sirius died thinking Reggie was a strong deatheater till the end, thinking that he failed his little brother and knowing Sirius he probably blames himself for Reggies death but who pays attention to canon in this fandom.

I will defend Regulus Black till my last breath.

I’m not sure if someone’s said this before but I’ve always felt that Regulus could’ve very possibly been groomed as a child (And many other children that joined the death eaters upon adulthood).

Can you imagine Riddle visiting the Black’s when Sirius and Regulus were young to gain support. Can you imagine him targeting not the adults of the house but the children that were going to inherit it in probably less than a decade. Can you imagine little 10 year old Regulus Black, who’s advanced at magic and often quiet in contrast to his older brother who fights back. Imagine how Riddle would see this impressionable but powerful child from one of the greatest pure blood families in the UK and immediately seize that opportunity. Especially after Sirius starts at Hogwarts and Regulus is stuck there scared and alone. Riddle showing up randomly to play with him or take him for ice cream or whatever Regulus wanted. Him pretending to care and listen to Regulus and Regulus finally feeling like someone loves him. Seeing a second preferred father in Riddle.

When Regulus starts school he writes to him sharing everything and Riddle writes back short replies and keeps an eye on him. Regulus and Sirius starting to fight because of their family’s ideals. Riddle starts planting doubt in regulus’ mind about how much Sirius truly loves him, picking James over him etc.

The years go on, Riddle is the one there when Sirius leaves. Regulus beleives every word he says bc he truly thinks he’s the only person to have ever truly cared about him.

Regulus starts getting scared by the war. He doesn’t want to kill people, he knows it’s wrong, but when someone you idolize is constantly putting in your head that this is the right thing and those people are actually hurting you then you start to believe them.

The thing with manipulators tho, is they tend to get paranoid. Regulus starts getting really close with Dorcas Meadows who is a blood traitor. Riddle makes him take the dark mark. Oh his best friend Pandora Rosier leaves her pure blood family to get away from the war. Forces him on his first mission and to physically kill a civilian which Reg has protested against adamantly. His one thing is he didn’t want to have to kill someone. He starts using all these threats on Reg, but he does it slowly enough that he doesn’t notice. Still Reg is beginning to get cautious around him and go behind his back (as teenagers do, he still sees Riddle as this person who loves him so he’s not necessarily afraid but he starts to fight back little by little)

But oh the kicker is when Reg stays friends with Pandora, behind his back. Oh now this time Riddle takes Kreature. And that just happened to be one step too far.

Imagine 17 year old Regulus lending his beloved house elf out to his mentor, his idol, his father figure and expecting for him to treat this person regulus loves more than anything well and send him home safely only to find out how awful that person is. Imagine Regulus sobbing on his bedroom floor because nothing he thought was true in the last 7 years were real. Riddle never cared about him, he was a weapon, a thing to be controlled. Finding out everything he was taught was a lie and wrong and he should’ve just trusted his gut god damn it and left with Dorcas and Pandora. Imagine regulus realizing his brother was right all along and he loved something that would never give him anything real back. Imagine Regulus Black putting all of his hatred and spite into killing the man that had ruined his life. Imagine him signing that letter knowing Riddle was the one who taught him how.

I could say so much more about this situation and how much it hurt him. And now I’m just sad for that poor lil boy. They were children.

i just imagined sirius and remus carrying with them something that belongs to the other, like a small object enchanted to never leave their pockets so no matter what jacket they're wearing they can always look for that little piece of eachother

like remus carries a guitar pick that belonged to sirius enchanted to 1. never get lost nor broken and 2. sound like sirius's breathing if he brings it to his ear

and sirius carries a 20 pence coin that remus gave him which 1. also cannot get lost 2. is always somehow cold to the touch. and when he needs to make a decision he throws it and it always, always lands so that sirius must choose the option his heart determines, he doesn't really know whether that's due to a charm remus put on it or just a coincidence, but it works

Amazing when Harry doesn’t crash out in those fics where Draco is reminding people that he’s also a Black

Like yeah it’s nice and cute that he wants to be in Teddy’s life or whatevs, but like. I’d lose it. Fully. He may be more immediately related to Sirius and Teddy, but he’s out of his mind if he thinks he’s a closer family member in the way that actually matters

Also sad that there’s not more fics of Harry getting to add Black to his name, like maybe this is just me projecting again, but being raised in a family where everyone else has the same last name and you’re sticking out (the Durselys), and then he gets accepted by the Weasleys, but it’s still Weasleys + Potter, and then he gets Sirius and Remus in his life, but it’s still Sirius is Lord Black of the Black family and then Remus starts his own family of Lupins

Awful. Harry deserves that connection, and honestly Sirius, being that he saw the Potters as his actual family, would love to add his name too, they could be the Potter-Black family, and then it’s not just Harry sticking out as the only one with his last name

just the concept of regulus not knowing who he is without sirius (heavily inspired by crimson rivers when reggie thinks sirius is dead for all of ten seconds) is so moving. like this man defied voldemort, walked into the cave fully knowing he was gonna die but cannot even begin to imagine living without his older brother.

just “Regulus’ very sense of identity is stamped with Sirius’ signature.” because reggie is who he is because of sirius and he can never change that.

sometimes i tell myself that this fandom actually isnt that bad and then i open this app or ao3 and am met with the most gut wrenching angst ive ever seen in my life

i love black brothers angst like what do you mean Sirius pretty much raised Regulus but had to leave him behind in order to survive. leaving regulus alone in an abusive household where he will do anything he can to get even a little bit of approval but will never get any. regulus who has never had a support system other than Sirius who had been pulling away for years. Sirius who watched his brother be the perfect little pureblood for the hope his parents will love him and only seeing another version of their parents. Regulus who most likely couldn't fully understand why Sirius would leave cause surely all parents are like this, the potter's can't be that much better so obviously Sirius is just leaving to be with his "new" brother. Sirius who assumes Regulus has realized the horrible nature of the parents because he did soon after getting to Hogwarts, but not knowing that the Slytherins don't tend to have good home lives so how could regulus learn that the house of black isn't a home of love. regulus who only learnt the truth once leaving school and serving the dark lord full time. Sirius who knows his brother is a deatheater and died before he could learn that regulus betrayed Voldemort. regulus who knowingly went to die a horrific death to do ONE good thing in his life.

There are many things I dislike about the marauders fandom despite being a part of it for years now. Yes, I was one of those people who were there when we were still establishing the very first fancasts. The days where the only relevant people were the main 4.

For all the mess the fandom is, there's a lot to love about it. But in recent days it's just not been great imo. For one, there's the twinkification of Sirius. I mean like, sure I guess, but it doesn't sit right with me because wdym he's a fragile little baby bird who needs to be protected by Remus at all times.

Second, there's the edgy Remus portrayal. Like that is an awkward shy kid who goes "uhm actually...-" but to each their own I guess.

A lot of these I can forgive. I can even forgive the weird kind of infantilisation of Regulus whenever he's with James sometimes. (Like that is very weird and I see this in a concerning amount of fics.) But you know what I can't forgive? The absolute erasure of Peter in a lot of the fandom.

I barely see him in fanart, he BARELY has a presence in fics if not only there for the betrayal, they never flesh him out if they do somehow make him a presence, and the people just forget him all the time. Like what the fandom is doing to him is equivalent to how the characters treated him in canon 😭 And it's extremely saddening.

headcannon that sirius black never cries. he gets angry and he yells and smashes things. his magic flies out of control and he says the most hurtful things. but no matter what happens, remus has never seen him cry.

and then one day the daily prophet announces that regulus black has died. and for the first time in eight years of knowing him, remus watches sirius breakdown and sob on their kitchen floor.

headcanon that when sirius black had lily and remus explain religion he went trough these stages:

laughing with james & saying "wow that's one crazy book" and never shutting up about it saying stuff like "hey i've long hair, maybe i can multiply the chocolate frogs like in that story of yours"

doing research while james & peter (and probably more purebloods that have heard them) keep laughing at it, and lowkey obsessing over it overthinking & not sleeping at night, obviously not making bad puns anymore

this kind of interactions with remus: "but moony, what if they're right? what if something does exist and i'm breaking every single one of his stupid rules and i'm going to get punished for it?" "padfoot, you love breaking rules, it's what you do" "but what if these rules are actually important?" "hey. hey, look at me. if there is someone up there (which i sincerely doubt), and if they're watching you of all people, i'm sure they think you're rocking it" "you think so?" "yeah" "i love you" "yeah, me too, padfoot"

"hear me out what if jesus was a wizard???" aka still getting over it & learning how to cope (remus helps)

i like to think that when Sirius was sorted, the hat barely had to think about it, just shouted Gryffindor

i also like to think that when Regulus was sorted, it had to think for almost five whole minutes. I like to think that Sirius' sorting and the aftermath made Regulus feel conflicted about Black Family Legacy (eventually he knew that he had to follow his parents wishes)

and i like to think that Sirius and Regulus had hugged outside of the great hall that day, a long hug away from the eyes of people who would report back to their family.

That was the last hug they shared.
