28 – HISTORIA DE LAS IDEAS – ILUSTRACIÓN EUROPEA -

Durante el periodo de la Ilustración, nuevas teorías sobre lo que es el ser humano y sobre la definición de la realidad y la forma en que esta se percibe, junto con el descubrimiento de otras sociedades en las Américas y las cambiantes necesidades de las sociedades políticas (especialmente después de las revoluciones en Inglaterra, Francia, las colonias inglesas en Norteamérica y Haití) llevaron a nuevas preguntas e ideas de pensadores como Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Montesquieu y Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Estos teóricos fueron impulsados por dos preguntas básicas: una, por qué derecho o necesidad las personas forman Estados; y dos, cuál podría ser la mejor forma que debiera adoptar un Estado.

Estas preguntas fundamentales implicaban una distinción conceptual entre los conceptos de "Estado" y "gobierno". Se decidió que "Estado" se referiría a un conjunto de instituciones duraderas a través de las cuales el poder sería distribuido y su uso se justificaría.

El término "gobierno" se referiría a un grupo específico de personas que ocuparían las instituciones del Estado, y crearían las leyes y ordenanzas por las cuales las personas, incluidas ellas mismas, estarían obligadas.

Esta distinción conceptual continúa operando en la ciencia política contemporánea, aunque algunos politólogos, filósofos, historiadores y antropólogos culturales han argumentado que la mayor parte de la acción política en cualquier sociedad ocurre fuera del Estado, y que hay sociedades que no están organizadas en Estados que igualmente deben ser tenidas en cuenta en términos políticos.

Desde la revolución cultural del siglo XVII en Inglaterra, que se extendió a Francia y al resto de Europa, la sociedad ha sido considerada sujeta a leyes naturales similares al mundo físico.

Las relaciones políticas y económicas fueron influenciadas drásticamente por estas teorías mientras que el concepto de gremio fue subordinado a la teoría del comercio libre, y el dominio católico de la teología fue cada vez más desafiado por las Iglesias protestantes subordinadas a cada Estado-nación, las que también predicaban en la lengua vulgar o nativa de cada región (lo que la Iglesia católica condenaba airadamente). Con todo, la Ilustración fue un ataque directo a la religión, particularmente al cristianismo.

El crítico más franco de la iglesia en Francia fue Voltaire, una figura representativa de la Ilustración. Después de Voltaire, la religión nunca volvería a ser la misma en Francia.

John Locke, en particular, ejemplificó esta nueva era de la teoría política con su obra Dos tratados sobre el gobierno civil, donde propone una teoría del estado de naturaleza que complementa directamente su concepción de cómo ocurre el desarrollo político y cómo puede fundarse a través de la obligación contractual.

Locke refutó la teoría política paternalista fundada por Sir Robert Filmer en favor de un sistema natural basado en la naturaleza en un determinado sistema.

La teoría del derecho divino de los reyes se convirtió en una fantasía pasajera, expuesta al tipo de ridículo con que John Locke la trató. A diferencia de Maquiavelo y Hobbes, pero como Tomás de Aquino, Locke aceptaría el dictamen de Aristóteles de que el hombre busca ser feliz en un estado de armonía social como animal social.

A diferencia de la visión preponderante de Aquino sobre la salvación del alma del pecado original, Locke creía que la mente del hombre entra en este mundo como una tabla rasa. Para Locke, el conocimiento no es innato, revelado ni basado en la autoridad, sino sujeto a la incertidumbre templada por la razón, la tolerancia y la moderación. Pigs are a clever and intelligent animal, however, most people are not aware of their high level of intelligence.  They are a household pet to some that can be trained and taught tricks.

In Dublin in 1772, a trained swine called the Learned Pig told time, counted and other such tricks to entertain crowds in the streets.

There was a famous, if fictitious, Learned Pig in London in the late 1700s which seemed to gain his learnedness from his mother eating an entire volume of Sir Robert Filmer’s manuscripts and “Saobeverel’s Sermons” before she delivered him into the world. He was born with an intelligence that seemed obvious just by looking. When one day he feasted upon the garden of the great Milton himself he began waxing poetic.

Pigs have been popular storybook characters for generations. From A.A. Milne’s Piglet to E.B. White’s Wilbur, pigs have an endearing and flavorful quality about them that makes us love them.

There are hundreds of different breeds, most of which are descended from the Eurasian Wild Boar.  The female is called a gilt and can produce 10 piglets in a single litter. They also produce bacon, ham, baby back ribs, spare ribs, sirloin, pork belly and oh, so many more delectable barbecue items it would be a shame to not honor the swine on this day of all days.

HISTORY

Our research has found that this day was created in 1972 by two sisters, Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave. Ellen was a school teacher in Lubbock, Texas and Mary was from Beaufort, North Carolina.  According to Mary Lynne Rave, the purpose of National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”

JudeoChristianity is not a faith following but an ethnographic political identity. For Christians it may be another dazzling lie. The rally call for independent, faith based, self-governed communities will always be their conscience. The founding articles of independence for the United States are helpful but constantly subject to distortion and subversion. Perhaps even by the founders themselves who appear for the most part to have been members of a secret society known as Freemasonry. This directly contradicts the spirit and intent of liberation movements and reveals the tentacles of British Royalty into our midst. If you are attending a Synagogue regularly, you are probably aware of these things but choose not to include them in your discourse, which is okay with me. The members will discover it in the normal course of their awakening from cultish manipulation. I just want to say that I appreciate your efforts in assisting in raising the awareness of the remaining members.

Early Christianity was co-opted by the Roman Empire, but the basic principles contained in the Bible, in my opinion, are the best articulation of the case for human dignity and freedom that the world has access to.  BTW, I attend a local Church, but have some very good friends who are Rabbis.  No matter how well a principle of freedom is articulated, it can be twisted and used to enslave.  I agree with the Quakers in their insistence that the dominion of Man over Man was a result of the Fall.  We are faced with a perversion of dominion and, as Kate pointed out, Salvation really is liberation.  I have been fully imersed in the literature of secret societies and other groups that seek global dominion, as I became aware of themduring my days as a CAUSA lecturer.  It too time, but I came to see that our leaders interpret DP in a way that leads to the dominion of some over others.  Changing how we interpret the DP is the key to raising awareness and reforming the UM.   I used to think that it was all a matter of how the Cain and Abel principle was understood, but now see that as a symptom of a deeper problem.  It all goes back to the Principle of Creation and the Fall.

Is the First Blessing all about "perfected individuality" or "The Perfected Individual?"  Do "perfected individuals" naturally create "true families", or does "The Perfected Individual" create "The True Family" into whose physical blood lineage the rest  of us must be engrafted?  Is our relation to God really a matter of physical blood lineage, or a more spiritual quality like love?  If our realition to God really is about physical blood lineage, how can we ever have a direct relation to God?  That relation will always be mediated by the physicqal blood lineage of the "True Family," who is to have dominjion over the whole world.  This is an old view called "patriarchicalism," which John Locke wrote his two treatisies on government to explicitly refute.

Patriarchalism is a political theory that arose in England in the seventeenth century that defended the concept of absolute power for the monarchy, through language that emphasized the "paternal" power of the king over the state and his subjects.[1]

Due to divisive religious policy, controversial political strategy at home and disastrous diplomatic campaigns abroad, James I and Charles I alienated the consensus of the people. Hence the patriots played down the leading role of the sovereign. They questioned the royal prerogative, seeing the king as the mere figurehead of England. The king's absolute authority was challenged by the authority of Parliament.

Against this increasing opposition, the Patriarchalists emphasized the absolute right of the king, as the paternal head of state. In Patriarcha (composed in the late 1620s), Sir Robert Filmer said "many out of an imaginary fear pretend the power of the people to be necessary for the repressing of the insolencies of tyrants, herein they propound a remedy far worse than the disease"[2]

Filmer used genealogy as a way to legitimize kingship, by tracing the throne's origins back to the original fatherly rule of Adam.

Filmer argued that the king is the father; the relationship is not one of similarity, but of identity, the right of fathers having been passed down genealogically since Adam.

Stating that the ideal relationship was between a father and his son to indicate the "mutuall trust and Confidence" which was always necessary in the State, Kynaston put forward the view that the inferior (the people) ought not to plot against the superior (the king).[3]

Richard Mocket maintained that the maxim “Honor thy Father, and thy Mother” pertained to the political sphere rather than to the familial one since it had more to do with political obedience than with submission within the household[4]

Locke and Montesquieu were instrumental in the rejection of Patriarchalism.[5]

National Pig Day, observed annually on the 1st of March, recognizes the domesticated pig. This holiday includes events and celebrations at zoos, schools, nursing homes and sporting events around the United States.  Pig parties, pig parades and gatherings with pig collectibles are a few of the other events that have commemorated National Pig Day.

Pigs are a clever and intelligent animal, however, most people are not aware of their high level of intelligence.  They are a household pet to some that can be trained and taught tricks.

In Dublin in 1772, a trained swine called the Learned Pig told time, counted and other such tricks to entertain crowds in the streets.

There was a famous, if fictitious, Learned Pig in London in the late 1700s which seemed to gain his learnedness from his mother eating an entire volume of Sir Robert Filmer’s manuscripts and “Saobeverel’s Sermons” before she delivered him into the world. He was born with an intelligence that seemed obvious just by looking. When one day he feasted upon the garden of the great Milton himself he began waxing poetic.

Pigs have been popular storybook characters for generations. From A.A. Milne’s Piglet to E.B. White’s Wilbur, pigs have an endearing and flavorful quality about them that makes us love them.

There are hundreds of different breeds, most of which are descended from the Eurasian Wild Boar.  The female is called a gilt and can produce 10 piglets in a single litter. They also produce bacon, ham, baby back ribs, spare ribs, sirloin, pork belly and oh, so many more delectable barbecue items it would be a shame to not honor the swine on this day of all days.

HISTORY

Our research has found that this day was created in 1972 by two sisters, Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave. Ellen was a school teacher in Lubbock, Texas and Mary was from Beaufort, North Carolina.  According to Mary Lynne Rave, the purpose of National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”

Moldbug quite memorably makes the observation that America is a communist country, and then goes further and makes it obvious that all of the world is America now, so all of the world is communist. He also traces this communism back through American history to America’s founding and then even further back and places this founding as the continuation of an English political conflict between Tories, and Whigs.

We can get under the engine of this broad claim and start to get at the mechanism behind this conflict and the roots of this communism. For a start, we can look at the claim of communism. Moldbug clearly used this for rhetorical effect, and it works to a degree, but we don’t need to retain this for analysis purposes. Instead we can concentrate on the status of the origin of property in the various strains of thought which is what defines this communism.

In the first instance we have the Tory conception which was expressed by Filmer. Now Filmer’s concept of property has been dismissed ad nauseum for being based on biblical grounds unlike Locke’s which were based on…biblical grounds, but there is a difference in that Locke’s ideas were developed in service to the Whig’s position in society and they won, so there is that. Why were Locke’s positions popular with the Whigs, whilst Filmer’s were popular with the Tory loyalists? Locke’s position was one supportive of rebellion, anarchism and oligarchy – which is what the Whigs were about. We can really consider this a case of two power centers forming two distinct cultures based on their specific interests – the monarchy versus parliament. Parliament won

History shows that the Whigs won so effectively that they purged Filmer Tories from every effective position of power in England following the failed Jacobite Rebellion. From this point on, every Tory position would be based on the grounds of Locke and we see the conservative is born. Every single incarnation of Toryism (and there have been many of that pathetic shadow) would forever be reborn on some new absurd position trying to justify a position built upon the ever shifting basis of anarchic property tied in with the individual coming before society, or communism if you will. We have had Burkean conservatism, Peelite conservatism, modern American conservatism, compassionate conservatism and now the alt-right – it is the never ending joke.

And now we can turn to Locke who tells you that IF WE DON’T HAVE FREEDOM, AND LIBERTY MEN WILL SODOMISE AND EAT THEIR OWN BABIES!!!!!!

No very flattering and demonstrates the weakness of Locke’s position, which is why I think he concentrated as pedantically as possible on Filmer’s claim of descent from Adam. It is the weakest part of Filmer’s arguments and frankly we can do without it and cut straight to the reasoning behind both author’s positions.

Locke’s reasoning is without basis in my opinion as it works from a state of nature which has never existed. So why are we still taking his writing as a serious and respectable body of work? Why do I need to argue past this point? His claims of the independence of the individual and the labor theory of property are obscenely wrong.  Everything about his thinking is disastrously wrong but given it was a rejection of absolutism it was useful, and anything pushing individualism has been warmly received by the modern state for its destructive value. The advocate of individualism is the foot soldier of a centralised state. Now, some may have trouble with this concept because on the face of it the contradictory nature is hard to get past, but it is only a contradiction if you don’t think it through and realise the destruction of individualism is aimed at everything and everyone except the centralising power, which in this case was democratic governance seated in parliament.

Here he is saying rule of law is nonsensical. Law is merely a tool in the hands of someone. Were he alive today, he would no doubt be amazed at the manner in which modern conservatives look at the law and the constitution in particular as some form of magic document that rules.

On other issues, Filmer is no less logically robust, whilst Locke rests on assertions and not arguments. Anything based on the state of nature is not an argument and shouldn’t be accepted as one, it is an assertion based on a point of faith (that we are born free and equal.) One such robust position is in the underlying logic behind the patriarchical model put forward by Filmer. While we can merely set aside the whole issue of progeny from Adam, we can nonetheless maintain Filmer’s conclusion that governance does indeed mirror a paternal relationship, and that authority can only flow down from those with authority to those with less.

In effect, Filmer is making it absolutely clear that those arguing in favour of constitutional monarchy are violating logic, and they are. From our 21stcentury perch, we should be in an excellent place to judge just who is right on this point – Locke or Filmer? There is where it gets interesting. It is obviously clear from conventional history and practically all conventional political theory that Locke was completely correct but seeing as this history and theory is based on Locke, there is a serious problem here. If we start out with the assertion that X is true, will always be true, and is not to even be questioned, then what will this say about our results if X is false. Garbage in, garbage out.

What Filmer is implying here is explosive. He is making the point that laws don’t come into being by themselves, but are authorised by a higher power in all cases. Common law was not made irrespective of the sovereign but was, and is, determined by agents acting on his behalf, and transmitting his will either directly or in accordance with the presumed wishes of the sovereign. The sovereign obviously being unable to sit in court for all cases and talk with every judge must delegate, and as such has a judiciary working in accordance with his will. In this instance, we can see that authority is the determiner of all action within the area of common law, and this holds true across society as a whole if this logic is maintained. All action that occurs within the authority of the sovereign is by default either within the sovereign’s will and therefore acceptable, or it is not, and it is illegal and/or a threat. Any other definition nullifies the entire concept of sovereignty as a meaningful term. There is no spontaneous action independent of authority but all of our means of formally viewing the world (political theory, political science, politically acceptable history) are premised on the concept that there is. Notably, in areas with more practical usage (such as property law) this premise is quietly and (I am sure quite innocently) ignored.

Approaching the matter from a non-lockean perspective, and using, say for example, Filmer’s refusal to accept the sovereign can be bound by lower powers, or that authority can be reversed, we get Moldbug’s history. In this history, revolutions are led by elites in a position of authority, the entire concept of democracy is rendered a sham by following the trail and determining which institution is sovereign, and the republican governance structure comes into view as the mere surface camouflage that it is. In short, we go from Lockean consensus history based on a giant lie, to a realistic history based on a giant uncomfortable truth regarding authority.
