#FoodPornByShar: Pao Tsin
Pao Tsin is a Chinese restaurant that is a go-to place of mine whenever I crave Chinese food. It’s not actually a restaurant. I haven’t seen one yet. But there are kiosks of Pao Tsin in almost every mall and other places with high foot traffic. They’re kinda like Master Siomai or Siomai House. One of my favorite thing to order in Pao Tsin is their siomai rice meal. I love their siomai,…

Jodi Sta. Maria and son join Chowking as ambassadors for the new and improved Chicken Lauriat
Got appetite to spare? A lauriat may just be the thing. A lauriat typically consists of several Chinese dishes served together in a large, communal table, often enjoyed in large groups. The term originated from the Chinese word “lao diat,” which means “celebration of life.” This Chinese banquet-style meal is a favorite among Filipinos because it is often associated with special occasions and…

Lunch at the parentals
I am working from home today. I am to bring my younger siblings to prep school which thankfully is near the village - they need to acclimatize to what a learning environment would be, stuff like reading, basic math, and play with the other pupils and just like that, be ordinary happy kids. this transition is important before we send them off a regular school kasi ayaw namin ma culture shock yung mga bata considering they grew up isolated in the province.
I also discovered that the boy has vision problems so tomorrow I will have his eyes checked at asian.
then of course the weekly parental errands like refilling their prescriptions and the weekly grocery since manang cion can't do this anymore.
yes, tito duties, people.
For breakfast we had home-made siomai served with rice and eggs.
lunch was knorr chicken and corn soup paired with stir-fried vegetables and meat. dessert was vanilla ice-cream topped with cornflakes that has been sitting on the pantry for I dunno how long?
kuya #2 dropped by and had lunch with us since he was in the area. his wife, ate lea who came after her hospital rounds joined us as well. i was happy they were here today as we rarely see them since they live in Westgrove unlike Kuya #1 who is like 10 minutes away from us.
then i worked the rest of the afternoon. thank God there is this new reality of working from home since I cannot bear the thought of driving to Pasig every day.
i hope we all survive this week in peace.

.📻🍳🐯🌙
📻 = What music genre do the mun and muse listen to the most? Any favorite bands?
my favorite band of all time is sleigh bells, has been for something like 14 years. i have so much to say about them… anyway, i've been listening to lauren bousfield a lot since last year around the same time stampede started airing; even now i listen to palimpsest and salesforce a Lot i listen to quite a mix of genres [here's my topsters list for albums], but to try and put it in broad strokes to answer the 'genre' thing… it seems like i like listening to music with distorted vocals, very maximalist songs with more emphasis on making you feel something than being the most eloquent and efficient with the lyrics.
i like vgm and witch house and jungle and any sound at all that makes me feel something.
i think i answered an earlier ask about stamps liking noise and understanding the scene—that people can and will dance to it because music is something that makes you feel something even if it doesn't have an orthodox melody/rhythm/etc. given the novelty of it and the openmindedness that vash tends to have i think he'd do fine with experimental, noise, etc. sorta genres; i don't think there'd be any genre he'd hear and have it be the sonic equivalent of giving a caveman a warhead candy or whatever.
but i also think that vash would particularly love live music, from concerts to just someone chilling out outside with an out of tune guitar, covering a rock song to kill some time.
sure he's got that radio/music player he keeps around, but i think he'd gladly take those earbuds out if he hears a friend humming or whistling or notices the wind picking up and nudging against windchimes or howling through metal structures.
he's used to living a life where you can't really stay put, and have to find meaning out of the little things. sometimes they require for you to focus on them, sometimes they make you stop and listen
🍳 = What are the mun’s and muse’s favorite foods?
i talked about liking pistachios (especially with whatever chocolate i have on hand) as a snack earlier. i'm also a big fan of anything and everything cotton candy, especially ice cream. i am allergic to a Lot of things, but if i were to only eat what i'm not allergic to, i'd easily get malnourished. my favorite fruit's strawberries (which i'm allergic to…..), although! i'm Not allergic to any kinda seafood, which is fantastic news for me given how much i love seafood :3 especially mussels and octopus! i've only eaten oysters once but i did enjoy how its just like eating a mouthful of solidified seawater
i'm filipino-chinese and have been pretty blessed w/availability of respective cuisine; favorite soup is sinigang, which is wonderfully sour and brings me a lotta comfort. could fuck up some sisig or bicol express any day. i've only ever had spaghetti of the filipino kind, and prefer my lemonade to be the kind made with calamansi.
favorite dessert is leche flan (the filipino kind's a lot denser, with more egg yolk and condensed milk). a lot of my birthday cakes were either goldilocks or red ribbon (bakery brands) mango cakes or mocha cakes lol. even now it still Is the go-to for any celebratory cake
ougghh peking duck and yangchow fried rice make me forget about all my problems in life… i'm also very happy to be at any dim sum place especially if i can get cantonese siomai or that one dish that's like chao tom but in Ball Form… egg tarts and mango pudding… dude i will be so happy. i will be SO happy
anyway i also talked about stamps liking oranges and orange juice! the rest of the food that was on the table for the twins' first birthday… looks kinda bland honestly lol. but, it makes me think that stamps would probably find space food to be nostalgic! i'm sure he's also grateful that Plants know how to produce[?!] pizza??
my interpretation of vash has a pretty big sweet tooth, and indulges it with fruit and desserts and pastries. although i've had him enjoy donuts as a nod to his other counterparts, i've also had him express that his favorite kind of donut is "assorted", LOL.
so i imagine him to be a lot less picky about his food given his circumstances, but i think that also comes with him not having too many "favorites", and there's still plenty of firsts he needs to try out here in spirale where it's possible! he's probably especially excited about what human food engineering's come up with, so any food that has that sort of novelty to it (like the whole miracle fruit thing, or spicy ice cream) has a particular appeal to him.
🐯 = What animals would best be associated with the mun and muse?
with me… well, besides mice and rats (due to being quite attached to my zodiac sign lol) i don't have any other super strong animal associations w/myself, they're all mostly bugs or fictitious animals LOL. online quizzes have given me killer whales and polar bears. i had a sick-ass dream about falconry once?? i guess if i had to pick, then it'd be hummingbirds! or maybe pigeons… wow! my answers all over the place
for vash… i did make him a ptarmigan for endless aurora. he chose those dudes 'cause he mistook them for doves LOL. i wonder what kind of bird call is used in the full version of TOMBI? kinda wanna say that's an eagle
suppose there's a little bit of lamb association with vash, given wolfwood's mission with him and the biblical stuff goin on over there. then there's also the namesake! i keep forgetting to make stamps buy a highland cow plushie wearin heart shades for maxvash and calling that guy the 'third vash' [or 'fourth vash', if we're counting spamton as an honorary vash?]
🌙 = Are the mun and muse more morning, day, or night people? When are they the most relaxed? When do they get the most work done?
i stay up too late and have a very erratic sleep pattern. daytime and sunsets make me the happiest, but sometimes mornings and nighttime's the only times of day where it's cold enough and quiet enough to Think. i dont have a phobia of the dark and i can sleep at any hour of the day so theres no real time of day that i dislike, at least
vash strikes me as a morning person… sorta. i think he sleeps more if he hasn't been eating hence all the dozing he does on-screen even when it's like the middle of the day, with his mood apparently remaining unaffected. i also know he's had to tend to animals & worked tirelessly hard as a Plant engineer. he doesn't ever seem to be disturbed by the heat that two suns bring on or by the chill of the desert-planet night, so i could see him be pretty adaptable himself.
i think the only reason he'd feel anxious about nighttime is bc a lot of terrible things (the Big Fall, the destruction of Jeneora Rock, the attack on the Humpback, the night of 7/21, etc) tend to happen then. which incidentally is part of why i made his giant challenge occur in the morning last summer; i'm mean, and i don't think he should get to feel safe from the horrors just because the sun's up
#cw: disordered eating#ask to tag /#i rambled so long about food i like dude i think i might be hungry#thanks so much for sending this in roo i love you very very much#answered asks.#headcanon.#out of character.#amoirsetpacis

Take a Taste: with Chowking Spicy Chao Fan [Recorded: Mar 30th, 2024]
Hello! It’s time for another “Take a Taste”! The series is about delicious food with my two paper dolls.
Today, it's time to share my food thoughts from the past month of March 30th, 2024; "Black Saturday" on Holy Week 🙏✝️. Once again, I break the "Holy Week" ❌🥩 rules. From "Breakfast" with Chili Con Empanada and Sprite Lemon Plus 🌶️🥟🍋🥫, and now a Chowking Spicy Chao Fan, with nice refreshing Iced-Tea for dinner! 🌶️🍚🍋🧊🥤Yum-yum! 😋🍽 Will the "Spicy Chao Fan" fried rice beat the "Chili Con Empanada" from before? 🤔 Let's find out, right now! 🙂
If you haven’t seen my previous episode, then please click → [CLICK ME!].
IMPORTANT NOTE: No #OnThisDay throwback post for this date.
So, without further ado, let’s get started:
1st to 5th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• [1st & 2nd Images] It's 9:35 PM 🕘🌙, and we've arrived home from a family province. 😊 Here, we've ordered a Chowking Spicy Chao Fan fried rice, a normal Chinese-style fried rice with spicy fruit! 🌶️🍚 Plus, a tiny cup portion of chili sauce if I want an extra kick (no pun intended). 🌶️💥🥵 And of course, I can't munch my "Spicy Chao Fan" without a refreshing Iced-Tea! 🍋🧊🥤 Mmmmm, my paper dolls are waiting to see what "Spicy Chao Fan" looks like!? 🤤
• [3rd & 5th Images] Well, okay then! Here it is! 😁 I've opened their lids to reveal the scrumptious "Spicy Chao Fan" (right), along with the iced tea (left), and a small portion of chili sauce (middle). Did I mention, that you choose Siomai Dumplings or Lumpiang Shanghai Rolls (4 pcs for both, by the way); steamed or fried? I went for the "Steamed Siomai Dumplings" over fried, but the Lumpiang Shanghai Rolls were also good as well. 🥟 Also, the scent of "Spicy Chao Fan" was straight from a Chinese wok, and it's pretty darn good from our nostrils. Can you smell it, you two? 👃😊 Ah yeah, and don't forget a packet of soy sauce, too. Don't worry, I'll put that on my spicy fried rice after my taste test without condiments. 😉
Did you know: For those who don't know about "Chowking" (超群 meaning "preeminent") 🇵🇭🍚🥟🏬, it is a Filipino-Chinese-based fast food restaurant operated by the Jollibee Food Corporation, since March 18, 1985. Previously owned by the "Chowking Food Corporation" itself before it was merged with the aforementioned JFC, in the 2000s. The Filipino-Chinese fast food restaurant still operates today in my home country, as well as selected regions like parts of the Middle East 🇸🇦 🇦🇪, parts of Europe 🇪🇺, the United States 🇺🇸, Indonesia 🇮🇩, and of course China 🇨🇳.
6th to 8th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• All right, enough information let's have a "taste test"! 🥄😃 Let's start with their steamy dumplings! *munching* Not bad, but what would be better than dipping a chili sauce? 🌶️🥟*munching* Mmmm! That's better! I would say, it a pretty darn spicy. Not too high, or low, but just right. My paper dolls already tasted it, too. 😊
9th to 13th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• [9th Image] Now, lets try with Spicy Chao Fan, this time! *munching* Not bad, I would say an average spicy fried rice, in a good way. 👌🙂
• [10th to 13th Images] However, if I mixed the chili sauce and soy sauce together, then this is a pretty sure a good "Spicy Chao Fan". 🌶️🍚 And it delivers through our mouths! 🥄🔥😄
14th to 17th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Well, paper dolls. Looks like our dumplings are gone, but we still have our delicious "Spicy Chao Fan" rice! And it was already spicy and delicious when I mixed two condiments (chili and soy sauce). 😊 As for the Iced-Tea 🍋🧊🥤, I've already sipped and its refreshing while I was eating, something that I need when I munch a spicy food. Otherwise, I might gonna buy a chocolate milk drink to ease my burning tongue. 🍫🥛→👅🌶️🥵 Nonetheless, we emptied our rice box because we enjoy eating "Spicy Chao Fan"! 😊 And that leads to...
Overall:
• Overall, we're satisfied our "Spicy Chao Fan" from Chowking without my complaints! 🌶️🍚😁👍 For the price? Only ₱139 (roughly $2) with regular size drink of choice. So, I would say a solid worth an appetite, including my paper dolls! 😊 We're definitely gonna order it again, whether the Siomai Dumplings or Lumpiang Shanghai Rolls for our toppings, fried or steam; they're both good options. 😋 As for the comparison between the "Spicy Chao Fan" 🌶️🍚 (for dinner) and the "Chili Con Empanada" 🌶️🥟 (for breakfast), I'd say they're "tied"! 🙂👍
Well, that's all for now. 😊

Week 1-2: Business Interview 👨💼
This blog will provide insights and information about various companies and businesses. On August 30, 2024, my groupmates—Jessa, Ian, and Francen—and I had the opportunity to interview five different businesses. These businesses are N JESS GENERAL MERCHANDISE, HAPPY SIP, AJ WATER REFILLING STATION, JASMINE GARDEN, and AQUARIST FISH SHOP. During these interviews, we gathered valuable information about their operations and the stories behind how each business was established.
N JESS GENERAL MERCHANDISE
The business is owned by Ms. Carmela Barton along with his father. It was established in 2015 and it is located at Zone 12, Upper Carmen, Door 3 LACAR Bldg. Initially, they focused on selling wholesale Beer, Coke, and nails (lansang). However, the wholesale side of the business struggled due to an employee's failure to perform adequately, and the profit margins were low. On the other hand, nails became a fast-selling item, prompting them to expand their product offerings. Using the profits from nail sales, they reinvested in additional construction materials to attract more customers by providing a wider variety of choices. The business has 17 staff and mostly our labor since the nature of the hardware store requires handling heavy materials. Ms. Carmela said that their business is partnered with contractors, so the materials used in the project come from them.
Ms.Barton shared that when starting the business, she first found a good location and a supplier. But despite the fact that business is in a good place and sales, it cannot be avoided that there are times they will experience slow sales but still she can manage to pay their financial obligations. And the reason why they decided to venture in business is to allow her father to retire from working abroad as an OFW, ensuring the business as her father`s retirement.
HAPPY SIP
Happy Sip is a store that is owned by Ms. Rema Hassan along with his sister Merlyn Hassan. It was a franchised store established on March 5, 2024 and the main store was in Manila. It is located in Zone 12, Upper Carmen, near the multicab terminal. The business is focused only on selling milktea but they just added other options like coffee and snacks, including siomai and fires. They have only 2 staff, Ms.Rema and her mother, and they don't have any business partners. Before the Happy Sip was established the family had an ukay-ukayan that was managed by their mother. However, due to poor sales, Ms.Rema decided to venture into another business which led to the creation of the Happy Sip. She just wanted to have an extra income given the situation on their first business.
Ms. Rema shared that the first process she did in building the business is to contact the supplier since the supplies are sourced from Manila. So basically she needs to wait a while for her to restock again. And it becomes one of the challenges she encounters along with the fact that they have a slow sale since tea is not a known necessity as the basic needs of people like rice.
AJ WATER REFILLING STATION
The business was owned by Mrs.Leonor Jamito and was established on June 28, 2024. It is located at Zone 12-C Uzlai Upper Zayas, CDO. It doesn't have a business partner and operates with a small team of just 3 staff since the business was just starting. Mrs.Jamito shared that the first thing she did in making this business is to save a big amount of money since the capital in this kind of business requires a big amount of money. Especially, it needs machines that generate mineral water.
The reason behind this business is for Mrs. Jamito will have something to leave for her children as she doesn't know how long she will live. She wanted for her children to have a business that will help them to have extra income. And she also said that you just have to be patient because the sales are not consistent. There will be times that are going to be high sales, it also has slow sales moments.
JASMINE GARDEN
The Jasmine Garden is owned by Amelita Dap-og and it was established in 1992. It was located at Gusa, CDO but now she is currently residing in Tagaloan. The business operates as a sole proprietorship with no partnerships. In 1992, the business started by selling only a few flowers, but over time, it expanded to offer a wide variety of flowers and plants. In addition to this, they now provide landscaping services. At the start, the business had just three staff members, Mrs. Dap-og, her husband Alejandro Dap-og, and her son Staline Dap-og. Mrs. Dap-og shared that they secured their location in Gusa through the support of the local government unit (LGU), and they have remained there because their business contributes to the beautification of the community.
Mrs. Dap-og shared that they were involved in several floral displays, such as festivals like kaamulan and higalaay. That is why if she wanted to display her products in any event she needed to submit a business permit. She also shared that they participated in a contest and won awards for "Best in Flowering" and "Best in Bonsai Plants." This involvement has allowed Mrs. Dap-og to connect with new suppliers and acquire new varieties of flowers that she can propagate and sell. Additionally, she has become a supplier to other gardens, creating a network of mutual support in the industry.
AQUARIST FISH SHOP
The business was owned by Mrs. Devenia Soccoro M. Chua, who established the business in 1993. However, the physical store in Rizal Fernandez Streets. Brgy. 1 CDO was established in 2010. It is a sole proprietorship and only has 3 staff members, Mrs. Chua, her husband and their child. The business is all about selling different types of fish, along with other pets, accessories for aquariums and fish foods. They created this business to generate income but the inspiration as to why they did choose this kind of business is because of her husband who likes to take good care and collect fish.
Mrs. Chua shared that the first thing they did to start the business was to invest and set-up a different aquarium size since this was where the fish will be put. They also sought out suppliers for their products, and as they built relationships with these suppliers, they were approached with offers for new varieties of fish, helping to expand their inventory.

Easy-peasy Taiwanese cuisine at home with Frozen Foods from Ersao Taiwanese Restaurant
Did you know that Ersao Taiwanese Restaurant has been serving authentic Taiwanese food and drinks for the past twenty years? If you remember the time when milk tea shops were not as ubiquitous as they are today, well you have Ersao to thank for being among the first eateries to introduce this delightful drink to the local food scene. However, its contribution to the Pinoy foodie’s gustatory…

FIRST WEEK OF BUSINESS INTERVIEWS
Last August 30, Jessa, Francen, Angel, and I, interviewed 5 business owners. Each of them has different businesses. Before we started the interview, we asked them for their permission to let us take a video for documentation purposes. Some of them agreed, but some of them told us not to take a video and just let us take a voice recording. We made some questions for them to answer based on all the business itself.
1. N JESS GENERAL MERCHANDISE
Miss Carmela Barton owns N Jess General Merchandise, a hardware store located at Zone 12 Upper Carmen, Door 3 LACAR Bldg. Her business started in 2015. They were also selling wholesale products of soft drinks and beers before, but the business went down as one of their staff members failed to do his/her job. Moreover, before the N Jess General Merchandise established, they were only selling nail hardware. The money they made from selling these nails was the one they used to start this business. Also, with the help of her father, who was an OFW before. They built this business so that her father does not need to go abroad anymore. Miss Barton also said that this serves as a retirement plan for her father. Moreover, we asked them about the first process they made before creating this business.
Miss Barton said that the first thing they did was to find a place, then the location, and lastly, to find suppliers. They have an estimated total of 17 staff working for them, especially since their business requires manpower. Their business also deals with partner contractors, where contractors, engineers, etc. will ask for their supplies. Furthermore, they also encounter a downfall where the sales are not that high, but nevertheless they are still able to pay for things they need to pay.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. HAPPY SIP
Happy Sip is owned by Ms. Rema Hasan and Ms. Merlyn Hasan, sisters who decided to start a business together. It is located in Zone 12, Upper Carmen, near the multicab terminal. This business, owned by the sisters, is a franchise store, with the main branch located in Manila. Happy Sip primarily focuses on selling milk tea, but the sisters decided to expand the menu, and now they also sell coffee and snacks like fries, siomai, and more. They started this business on March 5 of this year.
The business is solely managed by Ms. Rema and her mother, with no partnerships with other companies. Before Happy Sip started, Ms. Hasan's mother ran a business selling second-hand clothes (ukay-ukay), but sales declined. This decline prompted the Hasan sisters to create a separate business to generate additional income.
Regarding the process of starting the business, Ms. Rema explained that the first step they took was contacting the franchise. After receiving approval, they then made arrangements with the supplier for their products. However, Ms. Rema noted that one of the challenges they face is managing inventory, as they need to request supplies from Manila, which can take time to arrive.
Additionally, Ms. Rema mentioned that sales are not as high as they would like, which she anticipated because their products are not essential goods. She compared it to rice, a basic necessity that people need regularly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. AJ WATER REFILLING STATION
The third one is the AJ Water Refilling Station, this business is owned by Mrs. Leonor Jamito and located at Zone 12-C UZLAI. The business started operating on June 28, 2024. Their business also has no partnerships with other companies and is just solely managed by them. There are only 3 people who are working in their store, which is their family member. We asked about how the business was going, and she told us that they needed to be patient because there are times when sales are high and also sometimes they're low.
Mrs. Jamito's reason as to why she created this business is because she wants to leave something for her children, and this is their business. She said that she wanted her children to have this business because we do not know how long we will still be in this world. Furthermore, Mrs. Jamito's first step before diving into this business is to save money because she knows that they need a large amount of capital to build this business.
..............................................................................................................................
4. JASMINE GARDEN
The fourth one is the Jasmine Garden, which is owned by Mrs. Amelita Dap-og. She started selling since 1992, up to this day. However, during that time she said that she was only selling a small amount of flowers or that there were not that many variations of the flowers she was selling. Her store is located in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. There were no partnerships involved from other companies; she and her family are solely managing the business. Additionally, there are 3 staff working on her business, which are just her family members, the husband, Alejandro Dap-og, and her son, Staline Dap-og.
Mrs. Dap-og is not just focusing on selling varieties of flowers; they also cater to landscaping. They joined a lot of floral displays, such as festivals, for example, this Higalaay Festival. They were invited from the LGU to display their florals in Gaston Park also for the beautification of the place. Moreover, they have participated in contests and won some prizes, specifically "Best in Flowering" and "Best in Bonsai Plant." Furthermore, in order for them to have their business displayed, they are required to submit their business permit.
5. AQUARIST FISH SHOP
Our last stop is AQUARIST AQUARIUM FISHSHOP, owned by Mrs. Devenia Socorro M. Chua, located on Rizal Fernandez Streets, Brgy 1. The store was built in 2010, but the business has been operating since 1993. The owner manages the business herself, with no partnerships involved. There are three people working in the business: Mrs. Chua, her husband, and their son.
The business primarily sells different types of fish, although they have expanded to include other animals and pets. They also sell aquarium accessories and fish food. The business was created to generate extra income, and also because her husband has a passion for fish and enjoys keeping various kinds.
To start the business, they invested in setting up aquariums to house the fish. Mrs. Chua mentioned that their first step was to find a reliable supplier who could provide them with a steady supply of products over the long term.
Mapapa Wow ka din sa beef brisket mami nila sa sarap at lasa ng sabaw.
Sobra din naming na enjoy ang lechon kawali roast duck rice nila. Mapapadami ang kanin mo sa lutong at lasa ng lechon kawali sinamahan pa ng roast duck at sauce nito.
