Every time I see someone complaining about how there's not enough sapphic works in fandom I take exactly one (1) moment to emphasize with them, then I get annoyed because they're usually the same people that won't actually do shit about it. Like babe, be the change you want to see!!

*if your gender and sexuality brought on different feelings, vote for whichever you want. (whichever feeling was stronger, or first, or however you want to decide).
If you’re comfortable with it, put your sexuality and/or gender identity in the tags along with the feeling you experienced upon discovering it so we can see if any trends appear with correlations between certain identities and feelings!

Why shipping aroace characters is different
So I made a post a while back about my distaste for Vivziepop, the creator of Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. One of the things that I mentioned in that post was that I disliked how callously she treated the shipping of Alastor, her aroace character (note: he is indeed canonically aroace, Vivziepop confirmed that he was ace and an artist on the show clarified that he was aro as well, which seems to be the implication for the character from Vivziepop and her team). I had a few people regard with confusion, asking what the difference was between shipping an aroace character and shipping, say, a straight character in a gay ship. There’s a key difference that I want to cover for my well-meaning allo (not ace or aro) friends. (Note: I definitely have different standards for QPR shipping and friends-with-benefits shipping aro and/or ace characters, but if I see ANY allo people using QPRs without knowledge of how they actually work and use them as an excuse to ship an aro character….i will find you)
The difference that I, an aroace man, have in my mind is that Aroace characters should not be shipped in a traditional way because we have so little representation in the first place. How many gay people have you seen in media? How many bisexuals? How many lesbians? There are numerous examples of these more common sexualities all throughout popular media. One reason why this kind of representation is more popular is mostly due to two factors: One of which is, obviously, that the three listed are more commonly known by the populous, thus are guaranteed to get a better reaction from a widespread audience. The other reason to this is that aro-asexuality has to be represented differently than other orientations. With most orientations, if a creator wants to properly represent their identities, they will put the character in question in a relationship with someone of the same gender as them (Amity from The Owl House or Jackie from Star Versus the Forces of Evil), or they will give the character a chaotic realization-to-coming-out storyline, often tied to a romantic relationship (Nick from Heartstopper). However, with aroace people, you can’t really adhere to this traditional standard, as the entire point of the orientation is a lack of interest in sex or romance. Therefore, they tend to be harder to represent other than giving them a full storyline about their sexuality (Isaac from Heartstopper) or their orientation must be made clear by the creator (Lilith from The Owl House). These factors make aromantic and/or asexual characters quite rare in popular media.
What does this have to do with shipping aro-ace characters? Well, I can name countless well-represented gay, lesbian, and bisexual characters in popular media. But for aroaces, there’s really only a handful. It hurts to not see yourself in media. And, from my perspective, when people ship aroace characters, they’re callously disregarding that fact by ignoring their canon sexuality. Shipping Percy Jackson with Grover or whatever isn’t taking away from straight representation because, well, reread the first half of that sentence. Additionally, never, EVER have I seen people defend people who ship lesbians or gay men with a character of the opposite sex the same way they defend shipping aro-ace characters. Amity x Hunter is a famously reviled ship in the Owl House fandom due to this very fact. What’s the difference between shipping a character who, by definition, isn’t attracted to men, and shipping a character who, by definition, isn’t attracted to anyone?
Anyway, as a media enthusiast, I just wanted to share my thoughts, because this drives me insane when I see things like this. Well-meaning allo shippers, nothing against you, but please try to think about what you’re doing to marginalized communities before doing anything.
Sincerely,
The Number One Annoying Asexual Fandom Guy

Csigender, straight aces exist and can date, have sex, get married, be homophobic, be transphobic. They are cisheteronormative. Bisexuals can't ever be straight and experience homophobia even when passing as straight. Cisgender, straight aces are literally straight and comparing bisexuals to straight people is BIPHOBIC.
HSSD has an exception for asexuals. HSSD is the SUDDEN loss of sexual attraction that CAUSES DISTRESS and is used primarily to diagnose men with erectile dysfunction. It is not conversion therapy to be prescribed viagra. Secondly, cisgender straight aces have not alwaysbeen included iin the LGBT community. In AVEN, people were exrperssing disgust at David Jay lumping aces in the community back in the early 2000s. So
No, excluding people is not a form of marginalization. Are women marginalized BY LGBT PEOPLE for excluding them from LGBT resourcse? No. Cisgender, straight aces are not marginalized by LGBT peopel for being excluded. Religious trauma is not an LGBT specific issue. You ahve still yet to list a single LGBT specific resource cisgender, straight people need.
LGBT support is not an LGBT resource. Feminists are allied wth the LGBT community but are not inherently a part of it. Cisgender, straight women still aren't queer just because theyre allied. You have yet to name a SINGLE tangible resource cisgender, straight aces need from Lesbian Gay Bi Trans people that they do not get from the ace community or aro community
No, address it. Do you think cisgender straight women who are not ace deserve LGBT resources if they are raped for not being sexually attracted to their rapist?
I'm literally trans. Comparing the exclusion of CISGENDER straight peple to that of trans poeple is transphobic.
Hello anon,
I have already addressed the points you made previously, and I will not waste time addressing you further. I will be turning off anonymous asks, for the time being.
If you would like to perpetuate ace/arophobia, you should have enough courage to do so off anon.
I am only posting this to highlight the ace/arophobia that exists within the lgbtqia+ community.
Sincerely,
A disabled, trans gray-aroace person.

I'm on a badge making stall for IDAHOBIT, International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination (May 17). We're a youth focus community organisation.
I want to prepare a load of badge sized pride flags, and a load of pronouns, so queer people can make badges with their flags and pronouns, or whatever they want.
Could any of my mutuals or anyone offer suggestions for flags and/or pronouns I should include? I'd love it if everyone feels seen and included.
The flags I am already preparing are (in no particular order)-
demiromantic
lesbian
xenogender
agender
demisexual
pansexual
genderqueer
gay man
aroace
genderfaun
genderfae
genderfluid
aromantic
asexual
nonbinary
transgender
rainbow pride
demian
neptunic
I know I'm missing loads, any you think I really shouldn't miss?
And pronoun-wise, I'll have - they, them, she, her, he, him, xe, xem, fae, faer, it, its, ey, em, eir, thou, thee, ze, zir, hir, ae, aer.
Again, any I should include?
All feedback is very welcomed, and sincere apologies if I missed anything obvious.
Thanks SO much

So, serious question: why is everyone assuming Imogen’s talk with Nick at the end of HS S3 means she’s a lesbian?
I’m not saying she isn’t, but I genuinely don’t understand how y’all came to that conclusion so surely. I know she said she doesn’t think she’s ever liked a boy, but it’s not like she said she’s ever liked a girl either.
Personally, I related very deeply to what she admitted to Nick, which according to many is an example of comphet. I’m a cis woman who’s had a very long journey to figure out I’m aroace-spec.
When I was in high school, I had two boyfriends - one short-term and one long-term. Both were ended by me. And both ended badly. When I was in college, I tried the casual sex thing with two different guys. Both of those situationships ended badly and for very messy reasons as well. I’m able to look back now and admit that I’m not sure I liked any of these guys the way I was taught to think I did at the time. I might’ve had a bit of a crush at the beginning, sure, but I didn’t actually want the resulting relationships or situationships. I certainly didn’t want the sex, though I did it anyway, most likely because all my friends were telling me dating a guy for a year (at 16-17 years old) without having sex with him yet was crazy self-control for both of us. That told me I should want sex, whether I actually felt I did or not.
I do have specific feelings for certain people. Like a crush or an attraction, though I don’t necessarily want romantic relationships or sex with these people. It does tend to be predominantly members of the male population, but I’ve also been attracted to females and non-binary individuals occasionally. But that could also be down to my neurodivergence (AuDHD), as the strongest attraction I feel comes in the form of hyperfixation, usually on a celebrity and usually an actor. For instance, I’m currently hyperfixated on Kit Connor. During the summer, it was Jonathan Bailey. The whole year before him, it was Dylan O’Brien. And Xavier Samuel was the longest-running hyperfixation I’ve ever had. But instead of imagining romance or sex, these guys are more like muses. I watch any material available of them non-stop, I learn facts and trivia about them, I look at pics of them, I obsess over them. And then I typically use them as characters in stories that I write in my head. Sometimes I actually write them down, though I’ve never finished one. And though the hyperfixation may eventually fade or be replaced by someone else, I still carry that attraction for them, like real memories I look back on fondly. Anyway, I probably got off-topic here and if you’re still reading, I sincerely appreciate it.
So I guess my point is couldn’t Imogen have a similar story to mine, like realizing she’s on the aroace spectrum? Couldn’t her admission of not liking guys result in her finding out more about herself other than being a lesbian? Did anyone else have the thought that her self-discovery could lead to something other than a sapphic storyline? Again, I mean no harm or offense if my line of thinking and questioning is so to anyone out there. I’m genuinely trying to learn about how others are forming their opinions versus mine. And if Imogen comes out as lesbian, I absolutely support that. She’s a sweet character who deserves to find the truth about herself. Thanks to anyone who replies with their thoughts!

To the aroace lesbian, yes you can 1000% id as that, in no way do those contradict each other bc one is a sexuality (lesbian) and the other is an umbrella term for all aroace-spec ppl!

what are your specific queer headcanons for scc?
hmm? if I'm understanding correctly, for me it goes as follows:
swt is agender and aroace (triple A battery, if you will), uses (it/they) & masculine address. they never really gave identity much thought in its youth given that the people around them did not really dabble much in expression or spark any reason to question itself while growing up.
similarly, there was no need to actually think about attraction given its interaction with others — this remains true as it's typically focused on work or planning. doesn't think much about clothes either apart from practicality, but it enjoys what it enjoys, y'know?
cpn is a demiguy (masc/non-binary) hatguy and demiace. (he/they/it). expression is... very important for him, given that they place a lot of emphasis on appearances, regardless of sincerity. his father (also transmasc) tried not to draw any strict lines concerning gender, so cpn's identity horrors started a little later in his childhood. there was a year or two where they considered themself more feminine & a lesbian as well (mostly due to a FWB roommate they had), but mid-teens is when he decided to to all-in with experimentation and self-discovery. whole shebang. really awful body dysphoria for a while before this.
his identity is tied closely with his aspecness too as cpn, well. dated and played the field. got asked out, asked out others to try and fit in (or see if it'd fix what was "broken" about his wiring) — things like that, but never really understanding or being thought of by others as shallow/disinterested for failing to pick up on cues among other things (as it's somewhat repulsed by touch). had occasional fluttery feelings, but it was only when he was with his bandmates when it really thought "oh I'm Fucked" and denied his feelings or ignored them in favor of the friendship.
cks is unlabeled (nonbinary (a CD player (a car))) and aropan; (they/hy/mirror prns). when faced with "no boys allowed!" they'd say, "but I'm not a boy." and when faced with "no girls allowed!" they'd say, "but I'm not a girl." it's not something they really think about or question as hy doesn't really care much about it. their initial parents fussed a lot about it among other things, and they disliked how confusing it all was. why can't hy wear this or have that? its mama and later papa though didn't seem to impress upon them that it matters, and their own siblings by then had their own fun or thoughts about identity—but it still wasn't really anything they considered much about. they're k_k! that is that.
as far as attraction goes, they've had a few fleeting moments, but hy doesn't act on it and usually just let it go away on its own, it at all. they're a contact heavy person in the first place so hy was content with just casually hanging out with people. not the sort to let it show or care much it they felt the hots, so to speak, unless they were in a relationship of some kind.
[ & ] they all have their own aro/ace rings respectively 'cause cpn made 'em. they're usually not worn or are worn underneath gloves since they get in the way of work.

One Piece sexuality/gender headcanons:
Luffy: aroace (captain is a gender, right? Oh, it’s not? Well, man sounds good)
Zoro: gay when he bothers to care but mostly indifferent (cis man but like, slightly to the left. He got lost on his way to Enby Island, ended up on Dude Island, and went ‘yeah okay this works’)
Nami: lesbian (cis woman)
Usopp: bi (trans man)
Sanji: bi (possibly a cis man but the uncracked egg vibes are strong. Genderfluid is also a distinct possibility)
Chopper: who knows? He’s a reindeer with no intellectual reindeer peers (trans boy. Yes female reindeer have antlers)
Robin: still figuring out her identity now that she has the leisure to think about it, but leaning towards pansexual and Ambiguously Woman
Franky: technically a cishet dude who is honestly kind of disappointed that men do nothing for him and that he doesn’t care for the idea of making his body look female. What a waste of his awesome skills and attractiveness! But every trans person he knows has decided that transhuman counts as trans, so he’s a cisgender trans guy
Brook: cishet by preference, but occasionally a mature man will catch his eye
Jinbei: elder gay (cis)
Vivi: bi (enby but identifies with the female experience and uses she/her)
Iceberg: gay (cis man (I see your fancy lipstick sir, you’re rocking it))
Ace: aroace but loves the concept of romance as applied to others (he raised himself in bar fights where guys said men were strong and Ace was strong therefore he was a man, never bothered to question it because he had the man parts. Once he learned more about gender he shrugged like yeah okay but I like all this man’s pride and older brother shit so why change)
Sabo: aromantic bisexual, leaning towards women. Feels honored when someone loves him romantically, and is sincerely sorry that he can’t reciprocate, but sometimes life is pain (cis man)
Law: bi, leaning towards men, whenever he remembers that sex etc is a thing (cis man)
Penguin: straight (trans man. Keeps his severed tits in a Tupperware container in the fridge for shits and giggles, courtesy of Law)
Doflamingo: I said gay but he canonically had a thing with Viola so upon further reflection, bi (cis. Human garbage)
Corazon: bi leaning towards men (cis)
Roger: bi except it came as a total surprise to him because he thought he was gay until he met Rouge (cis)
Shakky: bi but mostly into women (trans)
Rayleigh: bi but mostly into men (cis)
Coby: gay (trans)
Alvida: lesbian who hasn’t figured it out yet (cis)
Buggy: gay but dear god men are awful (gnc cis man)
Shanks: pansexual but only ever seems to be romantically interested in men (cis)
Marco: bi, leaning towards men sexually but women romantically, badly hidden romantic (cis)
Izou: gay but at what cost (cis)
Thatch: straight??? But like, sometimes a guy can work it (cis)
Mihawk: being gay is suffering, so it’s a good thing that’s his whole brand (cis)
Perona: girl you are a lesbian get it together (cis)
Lola: bi, leaning towards men (cis)
Honorable mentions: Yamato and Okiku, the canon trans people that I think are bi and straight respectively, Ivankov our queen who defies labels, and Inazuma, the canon genderfluid character who I think is bi

Hello I am lesbian Akk lmao. Going from thinking I'm straight but aroace to a demi lesbian was a lot 😂 I get akk I really do. When my really pretty friend in uni tried to set me up with some guy to break my virginity. I remember thinking sex with her would probably slap more than with some guy lol. Like akk I always had little attractions here and there for women but my mind would quickly come up with technical reasons that made sense. Now that I think about it trying with men was sooo hard in a way that it wasnt with women. And just like akk when I got to know some women to a point where I felt those feelings, my first thought would be "man if I could only bottle this up and open it when I go on a date with a man" 🤣🤣🤣 and the comphet phase is so sad cause I was surrounded by queer ppl but I was still convinced I was straight and because I wasnt having those feelings for men I must've been aroace. My mind on the other hand would convince me that the same feelings for girls were just cause I found her really pretty or wanted to be like them. My crushes on girls and boys when I was young were so different
For boys- he's popular, he gets good grades therefore I should like him. He was kind to me in class when everyone else was not so I must like him. I would call it an aesthetic attraction. If the boy exuded any semblance of having good manners, it would immediately be "yeah that's hubby right there 👍🏾" cause yeah common sense we have to pick the nice guys ghjkkk
Girls- this used to be more intense, I was barely breathing lmao. Most of the time it was someone I sat next to or would hang out with. And I would really study their face when they weren't paying attention like 'my god she's soo stunning'. Or time would stop when they would pass by or some shit like that and I was still convinced that it meant I wanted to be like them! They literally took my breath away 💀 with boys it was a monotone 'yaas my crush is here' in my mind but with girls the thoughts were not even coherent 'fghjkihggbjkjhff' LMAO AND MY MIND STILL REFUSED TO COMPUTE THAT INTO "hey don't you think maybe we could be lesbian? I mean we cant seem to act normal around pretty girl for 5 fucking minutes" instead my trash software concluded this "no you tots want to be like her ☺️ or you just find her intimidating babe 😘"
To end this long winded ask lmao...akk is an idiot no denying that but his oblivious thought process does make sense. I mean hey at least he knows he's gay that's half the battle 😭
Sincerely,
A lesbian Akk who figured her shit out even later than Akk 💀
Thank you for sharing your story with me! But yeah, the comphet is wild and that’s why I appreciate stories like 23.5 so much. I—and many other queer women—never got that giddy high school first love experience because we were so brainwashed we couldn’t even see what was right in front of us. Homophobes always complain about gay people “shoving it in their faces,” but if that was true, I would have realized I was gay a lot sooner. Heterosexuality was what was shoved in my face.
I’m glad Akk’s journey is relatable to you! Twenty-two is still so young to figure yourself out and although Akk tends to panic about his lack of experience, he’s still well ahead of the curve in my opinion. I’m 31 and still learning different facets of my queer identity. It really is a lifelong process. Akk’s lucky he has Aye to teach him 😉

hi. i feel like enough time has passed and i have separated myself from the fandom enough to make this statement. anyways here’s my super duper controversial statement.
nick and charlie are poorly written characters and they’re relationship is entirely too codependent. as a queer person (assigned male at birth) who has been interested in guys, i hate how they’re relationship is depicted. i really just have a huge issue with women writing men-loving-men relationships, i never think they do it right. and YES i am aware that alice oseman is queer/gender-queer but she is a femme-presenting/woman-aligned person who is also aroace. she has never lived that experience and i do not think that her telling of that experience is accurate. i think it’s extremely cishet-washed and honestly i feel like it’s pandering to straight people and people who are newly out, if that makes any sense. i personally feel that they’re story lacks nuance. it embodies the worst aspects of ya fiction.
firstly, my main issue i have is with charlie and how he is depicted as a queer man. i find issue with the way he is depicted; timid, awkward, clumsy, and in need of saving. i HATE that fucking trope. i hate that everyone’s idea of a gay couple is of this femboy, who was probably abused or bullied, being saved/rescued/“really-loved” by a larger, more masculine, jock.
i have personally gone through many of charlie’s experiences. i was r@ped/sa’d as a young person, i have struggled with anorexia, and i have and still do struggle with self-harm/cvtting. i have also stayed in a mental health facility! sounds familiar, right? that’s because all of that shit also happened to charlie spring. but we don’t get to see any of his healing process. we don’t see him in therapy. we don’t see his time in the hospital. all we see is how it affects nick and how nick gives him the strength to recover. blah blah blah gag me with a spoon.
anyways, having said all of this. i have read the entire updated comics, and i have seen the show. i plan on reading the final installment of the comics and watching the remainder of the series. i do think queer people need and fucking deserve more representation and more media depicting our normal domestic lives. there are so many shitty straight shows that are just pure fluff and entertainment and queer people fucking deserve that.
i also am extremely interested to see if/how alice incorporates darcy‘s actor kizzy edgall’s transmasculinity into darcy’s character. i would have a totally new respect for her to ACTUALLY WRITE a complicated subplot that is nuanced and depicts how queer people’s labels change and how their understanding of their gender and queerness grow with them. how does tara react? does she amicably break up with darcy to respect their identity? or does she come to the conclusion that, “fuck it. i love darcy. who cares if we aren’t technically in a lesbian/sapphic relationship. i am still valid.” THAT WOULD FUCKING ROCK
anyways best character is elle. hehehehehe.
sincerely,
an openly queer, semi-closeted transfeminine person. *equips sunglasses*
