24 Screenshots from 2024
I was tagged by @eljeebee, thank you! I owe it to you to rack my brains to find 24 shots that are worth it! I don't have enough this year to make a separate post for both story shots and photo shoots. The last pic is a bonus from the newest update, yet to be posted after Christmas. ;)
Mmh... lots of Laurie and Anh this year, no? I wonder why? :D Thankfully I made up to the Laurik fans in photo shoots!
(also, I seem to have a thing for staring contests...)
Tagging @danjaley, @solori, @anamoon63, @gittessimsadventuresog, @tia-amorosa and @obscurus-noctem
...and merry Christmas to everyone!

24 Screenshots from 2024
thanks for tagging, @nocturnalazure 🙂
Hmm… It's difficult to pick ONLY 24 screenshots that I particularly liked from this year (and the year isn't quite over yet). And I wasn't sure if I should just take story pictures or also others that I liked. But I stuck with the story pictures.
(maybe the next Generation?)
A small picture gallery with the title: Despair, Dreams, Hopes (I know I already had something similar as an episode title, but this sums it up pretty well at the moment) I won't be tagging anyone else except @greenplumbboblover ⭐ because most of the others I wanted to tag have already been mentioned in other posts, so I'll save you from potentially having to post the same pictures a second or third time, LOL 😅 greetings

Happy birthday to the man of my dreams! The lord put you in my life almost 10 years ago and everyday I thank him for his wisdom in doing so. You're our protector, provider, and my best friend and I pray we get to grow old and wrinkly together just like we planned. I'd highly recommend getting your 8 year old to take pictures of you and your husband, it's guaranteed to give you an afternoon of the giggles.

Hey Tumblr friends! I hope everyone is having a good week so far!
I downloaded this remake of Bridgeport world from a friend on Facebook! They posted it in a group I'm in, so I just wanted to talk about how AWESOME it is! They did a great job making this world!
I love that some of the lots are un-furnished! Right now I am decorating this mansion and it sooo big. There are so many rooms, I don't know what I'm going to put in all of these rooms! I would love to hear some ideas!
The owner of this mansion is Bruce Vayne. I made him a single vampire sim who lives there with his butler and pets.
I'll post more pictures in my next post. I have a lot of photographing to do, this world is incredible!
Thanks friends!

(mainly text) Reviewing the prior four generations of the planetary legacy
I've been thinking about the things I'm glad happened, and the things I'd do differently, now that I'm over halfway through my planned eight generations. I know this won't interest everyone (it may only interest me, come to think of it) (yeah you know what, this is the definition of self-indulgence) so--below.
Generation Saturn
I would have made this a lot less story-ish if I had it to do over, mainly because it was shit as a story. But I was coming from Wordpress where, up until the last 4-5 years when everyone began to drift away, at least, there really was something of a TS3 community, where people interacted a lot with each other's posts, and the focus was more text than screenshots. It wasn't perfect--I must stress that--but it was entirely free of some of the things that make Tumblr so obnoxious. If there was drama, I remained oblivious to it.
To go from that, to the near-zero feedback I got on Tumblr initially, was like being plunged into an ice bath. The only reasons I kept going at all back then were @happy-lemon and @autonomousllama, who were kind to me, made me laugh, and liked some of the posts I did.
I did get discouraged and rush through the latter half of this generation, because I also learned that I am not a fan of Into the Future. It's fine--not everything is for everybody. At least I finally played it and found that out for myself.
Generation Uranus
The big mistake here was rushing Yuri into marriage when his first love didn't work out. Sims will marry anyone you tell them to, but it doesn't mean they'll have a happy union. And I did want to finally try out Midnight Hollow, sure; but why I thought it would be a good idea to move the pink-haired elfin lady from Dragon Valley there is a mystery.
I should never have given Enya a fairy potion to drink, either. It was cute for 5 minutes and then it was, why's the teenager up at 2 a.m.? Oh, because her room has the only audio equipment and Enya has 24/7 dance fever now.
Otherwise, I have to be honest: This was the most fun generation to play after Velma's. I love World Adventures and I got a kick out of Yuri, even when he was being a dipshit. Maybe especially then.
Generation Neptune
I mean, we know, right? The heir should have been Wendalyn. But it wasn't 100% my fault--the 64-bit version of the game being broken with respect to water, that was going to make this generation boring no matter who the heir was. If you cannot dive/swim/snorkel/perform any directed action in the ocean, you're left with fishing. 😴😴😴
I did at least get Velma out of it. It's funny--some Sims you know right away are going to be the heir. I knew it'd be Velma when she was a toddler. I loved Vivienne, too, but she was destined for a supporting role, and she turned out to be perfect for it.
Generation Mercury
My massive regret here is, I never and I mean never, ever, ever should have moved Velma out of Elmira City. She was happy as hell there and the saves weren't even getting glitchy; I just thought Aurora Skies would be ✨more wholesome for children✨ and wanted to bring up the next generation there.
It was such a mistake and it wrecked my enthusiasm completely. Putting Velma in Aurora Skies was like putting Enya in Midnight Hollow, like, why do I do this stupid shit? "Oh, the contrast will be so--" boring, self! It will be boring.
It also broke some of the Sims I took along for the ride. Neither Marco nor Ian had a mean bone in their bodies in Elmira City, but suddenly in Aurora Skies all either of them ever did was Berate Ignorance. (Neither of them was a genius or irresistible, either, though that was probably obvious already.)
Finally, I will never know if perhaps Devon would've been less into Vivienne had I left him in Elmira City, where he had not yet met her, and possibly never would have. Sparks were not flying between him and Velma, though, and that was true even in Elmira City. And I was furious, because generally, sparks flew between everyone and Velma.
Another regret: sending Undine to boarding school as a child. That stupid Aurora Skies house had a backyard I filled with every bit of playground equipment I could possibly pack into it, and then none of it ever got used except, I think Velma and Devon did woohoo in the tree house once, or... I'm pretty sure Velma banged somebody there, anyway. 🤭 It would have been so unlike her not to.

MAG3 - Across the Street
This statement is really creepy. It doesn't scare me, I have came to realize with time that horror stuff doesn't strike like it tends to do to othe people, but I find the normality of the whole episode quite upsetting. Not in a bad way, mind you, upsetting in a "nails scratching a blackboard" kind of way.
QUOTES, QUOTES, QUOTES, QUOTES:
"(...) but Tim came through with this one and managed to get hold of Ms. Patel’s medical records. God knows how he got them, but he’d better not be using Institute funds to woo filing clerks again." - Jon Sims, March 27th 016
Again. AGAIN. Tim wtf, relatable but wtf
"Doubt it would have done much good. It just says the same thing on every page: the words 'Keep Watching' over and over again." - Jon "I don't want to sleep tonight" Sims
I find funny how Jon is all like, this is false, really really false, more false than monopoly money, and then goes "there is sth that concerns me tho" and doesn't matter whatever he says next, you just Know that whatever he says, you are not sleeping that night.
Small review:
As I said, the normality, the goddam normality. This statement it's promising you that Horror will find you at the supermarket and there would be anything you could do to avoid it. Isn't that awesome? (I literally said before that horror does not scare me, I know I sound weird but don't take personally, it's part of my charming personality)
General overview:
Vibe: so, so creepy and so, so, normal
Horror: creeeeeeeepy AF
Audio: gotta love the music and effects, pretty ASMR in general, Jon doing voices it's the funniest thing ever
Humour: the statement itself lacks humour, but Grumpy Academic Man comes to the rescue at the end
Score: 10/10

Happy New Year! The Farmer Legacy 2023 Year In Review
Happy New Year! My short, but encouraging, year-end update. Come see how we did in 2023.
Happy new year everyone! I had some serious doubts as to whether I was going to—whether I should—make a year-end post for what was without doubt one of the worst years of my personal life. But, in the interest of continuity—and because I’m a bit of a completist—here I am with the fifth annual year-end update. Who am I to break a five-year streak? First, I’ll get to the “business end” of things…

Harvestella Review
Short version: Fantastic OST, compelling story, inclusive gender options (you can choose Male, Female, or Nonbinary for your self insert protagonist), 9/10 would recommend.
(Long version behind the cut)
Long version: If you go into this game expecting 50+% farm sim and the remainder is action-adventure JRPG, you'll be disappointed. Based on where I am - as of the writing of this review I've completed the Main Story and I'm working on the Epilogue - the game is more like 70% JRPG, 30% farm sim. If I were to describe the game, it would be like taking a Star Ocean or a Tales game, deciding that the item crafting/cooking system wasn't ~enough with farming monsters for drops, and making it literal farming. You want money? You mainly get it by sending things off in your Shipping Box, with some supplemental income via side quests. You want healing? You gotta eat for that ... which uses ingredients from the crops you farm. But even if managing the farm eats up your time, the game is very well paced for that - the opening chapters go in seasonal order (starting in Spring) and I had plenty of time to both finish a chapter of the main story for the town themed after that season and completing all the side quests while doing farm "chores" every morning. Story is amazing, in my opinion. If you like Star Ocean's (especially SO3) or Tales' (namely Graces) storytelling, this will be right up your alley - I happen to love both, so there were points where I just Could Not Stop Playing. All I will say is don't let the first 3 chapters lull you into thinking this is a typical fantasy JRPG, if you do the side quests and pay attention, you'll quickly realize there's a lot more to the world building that meets the eye (that will also become significant as you keep going in the game). Also, Go Shiina's work on the OST is fantastic, really goes well with the story to help make the emotional hits hit harder, while giving you all the hype for boss battles. (SqEnix, free the OST from Japanese iTunes jail already, let me give you money for it!) I'd comment more on the story, but it's hard to say much about what I loved about the story without spoiling it - the late game reveals were really good and I loved every moment of it. Probably helped a lot that Aria's my favorite out of all the party members. Lack of voiced story dialogue wasn't actually a big deal to me, but I played a lot of 90s JRPGs that weren't voiced so it was a bit of a nostalgia trip in that sense. Combat is pretty straight forward, nothing truly special there, if anything I wish that "dash" Step skill wasn't a skill reserved just for melee classes but just a default combat maneuver (how old school action RPG of them - reminds me of the older Tales games where you had to unlock Backstep as a skill), There's some room for finesse, but a significant contributor to how well you do in fights is how well have you managed your farm (for in-combat healing/food buffs and how much money you have for weapon upgrades) and how much have you gotten to know your party members (for combat buffs/class skills). If you're like me and kept up with the farm and did every character story (you get prompts in-game in the form of letters) you'll probably be fine. If anything, combat's pretty much where I took a point off - it's pretty straightforward, but in my opinion this isn't a game you should be buying for the combat system, you should be buying it for the story. Customization is pretty basic (iirc just hair color and a few other simple things), but since I'd gone into this completely blind (I didn't even read a single review, just thought it looked interesting based on the Steam page) I wasn't expecting anything to begin with so it was more like a pleasant surprise to get the choice to have a few cosmetic changes. I like that they included nonbinary as a gender option - I know that alone got a friend of mine interested in the game. Personally I like the default outfit and I like how your outfit changes in combat to match your current class by adding in a "signature" aspect of the corresponding party member's outfit, but that's a YMMV. Overall, a fantastic game, one best played with as few expectations going in as possible, beyond knowing that it's a story-heavy JRPG with a fantastic OST and a side of farm sim. YMMV if you think it's worth it at full price, but in my opinion, definitely worth it on sale.
#harvestella#review#i can't remember the last time I stayed up until 3 am playing a game and went oops#and i did that multiple times with harvestella either as a One More Day or I Need To Know What Happens Next#definitely one of the best games i've played recently#sqenix messed up on marketing this as a farm sim with a side of jrpg#it's definitely a jrpg with a side of farm sim#the focus is the story not the farm sim
