Six Sentence Solstice

Helloooo! Thank you to everyone who has been tagging me over the past few months. I’ve been around but haven’t felt much like sharing; I usually hate whatever I’m writing until the first draft is done, but I finally have a first draft of Basil Pitch’s Diary to edit, and feel suddenly excited to share.

Next week I am hosting my family for Christmas and will be cosplaying as a Dickens character by roasting a goose. The goose chase (nearest goose farm is 30 miles away) will take a lot of my energy tomorrow, so we're here a day early. Festive solstice, y'all. Here are are six fifteen sentences.

“Why are you being so nice to him?” Had not told Niall about the truce with Snow. Could not tell him about the Mage dropping Snow discarding Snow like a broken appliance. Obviously Snow was better off without him, but Snow didn’t see it that way. I didn’t want to embarrass him.  And I didn’t want to watch Niall cock his head and say Oh, Baz … “I’m not.” “You gave him an answer in Magic Words.” Miss Possibelf had been lecturing on how spells lose potency with disuse and had called on Snow to name an example. Did not think anyone had heard me lean toward him and whisper Deez nuts. “Power move.” “And at lunch the other day,” Niall pressed, “you spelled mustard off his tie.”  Fuck. Had thought Niall had been distracted, like everyone else in the dining hall, by the spectral pixie grandmother reducing our classmate to sparkly tears. I’d been haunted, too, by the image of neglected baby Simon, ignored by his caretakers, slathering himself in condiments.

Broken appliance inspo was my vacuum cleaner, which broke last night after years of faithful service. Maybe I’ll get it fixed, or maybe I’ll just murder it and steal its magic.

FIRST 2025 WIP WEDNESDAY

Hello, friends!!

This year, I want to write more, so I’ve been writing at least 300 words daily, which is a really good exercise. I have so many WIPS, but I’m focusing on 2 right now, for and from 2023 🤡 i deeply apologize to the artist.

Anyway. For the AU fest, I’m writing Davy and Lucy fan fiction (and you know I love the adults being young, so I’m THRILLED).

He sighs, pulling his hair. My hand comes up to stop him from doing that. It’s an awful habit of his. He lets me. Our hands rest on my lap, above the fabric of my schooled-issued skirt. His nails scratch it. Another habit I’ve learned he does; it seems to soothe him and centre him when he’s deep in thought. “I don’t want you to argue with them,” I say. His head hangs down. “Luz…” “I know, honey, but you have to behave.” I grab his head to pull it up, to make him look at me. He does. “Just for this weekend. Just through dinner, the first one.”

And for the second, the CORB one, is a cute lovely prompt that I turned sexy and funny, so I’m sharing my favorite bit:

“I want you,” Simon says, throwing one of his legs over mine, straddling me. His thighs are juicy and warm around me but I ignore it—as much as a man can deny temptation—, turning on my side to deposit him on the couch. Our intertwined legs don't improve my situation. Immediately, he reaches up to me, and I bat his hand away. “Baz…” “Eat the scones, love.” “If there’s any type of aphrodisiacs in there, I’m afraid it’s doomed to not do anything. I’m already in love with you, and I need you carnally.” I stare into his blue eyes, trying to make him listen. “Simon, I need to talk to you,” I say. “I need you to fuck me.” I try not to roll my eyes. “Jesus, Snow.” The one time I truly need him to think with another part of his body that’s not his prick.

I’m thinking about making EGF this year since last year I missed it, but we’ll see. I’m thinking of bottom!Simon because why haven’t I done it.

Tea for (more than) Two

So, in a delightful turn of events, I recently got together with some pals who are also TOTALLY NORMAL about Carry On. And we did our best to replicate afternoon tea at Lady Ruth’s house. And I thought it would be kinda fun to share the results (and some recipes, which are at the end under the cut). So, here they are, featuring:

Scones! (Sour cherry, ofc.)

Cake! (Chocolate with Chocolate-Orange Buttercream featuring a super respectful remembrance, Lemon Drizzle, and Classic Victoria Sandwich.)

Lavender Earl Grey shortbread cookies!

Finger sandwiches! (Egg & cress, Lemon and prawn, Caprese on focaccia, and Coronation chicken - all on freshly baked bread.)

A selection of teas! (Including Simon's Sour Cherry looseleaf blend, Simon Snow Tea, some proper English Breakfast, and of course Earl Grey.)

A giant slab of butter! (Fancy butter.)

A basil plant!

A crucible!

A sword through the table!

Special cameos by a Watford goat (wings hidden) and Prof. Minos (tiny fluffy edition)!

Sadly, no tea trolley, but we did our best to provide glamorous staging anyway.

It was pretty much the best, guys! Highly recommend. Recipes (including dairy-free versions for many treats) below the cut.

Chocolate cake with chocolate-orange buttercream (dairy-free)

Using this recipe for the cake, and this one for the frosting (instructions at the end for a chocolate variant). A hot tip is to use egg whites instead of aquafaba (they whip up much faster) and of course to add orange zest, per AWTWB ch 89.

Lemon Drizzle Cake (dairy-free)

Using this recipe, using vegan butter and replacing the self-raising flour with some flour/baking powder/salt ratio from the internet. Garnish with Kellogg's ICEE Cereal or any other weird cereal you saw at the store and couldn't resist trying, for a little visual flair.

Classic Victoria Sandwich (dairy-free)

Using this recipe, substituting butter with vegan butter, milk with a non-dairy milk alternative (ideally soy but in this case oat milk was used), and replacing the self-raising flour with the same flour/baking powder/salt ratio from the internet as above. Regular old granulated sugar can be used in place of caster sugar. Garnished this with some black raspberries, but any attractive fruit (or weird cereal) could be used.

This recipe from the Joy of Cooking does the trick! Use the GOOD butter.
