Hey, what is the most common cat color? Is there a particularly rare color? What are some cool statistics/facts about cat colors?

the most common cat color would be black, including black solids and black tabbies! there's a good amount of rare colors and i imagine some people would disagree with me about what is rare, but here's a few:

chocolate and cinnamon (solids)

lilac and fawn (dilute chocolate and cinnamon, solids)

silver smoke, shaded and tipped (different presentations of the inhibitor/silver restriction gene)

golden (another variation on the inhibitor gene)

amber (found in norwegian forest cats)

phoenix mutation

"red on blue" tabby and "pseudo-cinnamon" (i've actually seen some misinformation popping up about these guys recently >_>. a cool-tinted red cat is not necessarily one of these guys!!)

karpati mutation

finnish/salmiak/salt licorice mutation

The idea of werewolves having a “weakness” to silver really is a fun thing to play with, especially with low enough quality silver where it just burns the skin. A werewolf who has a scar from her favorite necklace, whose hand has a mark from all the silver rings she has to shake hands with, stuck in a silver chastity cage while her mistress hold the key, the possibilities really are endless!

Dorian wanted to make sure Orym was comfortable in his own home. He shouldn't have to use a step stool to do everything. He shouldn't have to struggle with a bowl and spoon that doesn't fit his hand.

Orym made the argument that Dorian shouldn't have to crouch or use things too small for him.

Hello! Do you know anything about the genetics behind the silver tips on Russian blue fur? I know they're blue, but I also know there are plenty of blue cats without the silver tipping. Unless they're dilute to the point they don't produce enough eumelanin for the whole hair???

Bengals have a "glitter" gene (Fgfr2), but as far as I know, there is no evidence that russian blues have the same or even similar gene. Still, their silver tipping is probably genetic, and not related to the dilution: russian blacks and whites also exist, albeit both are very rare, and i believe they need to have that shimmery coat too.
