Finrod and Maedhros in the halls or post embodiment talking about Sauron.
Not about the torture or the agony they went through, more like gossiping on how much of a peacock he was, strutting around and bragging about how beautiful he is.
If you came across them in the street you’d think they’re talking about one of those overdressed Tirion nobles, but then you hear “I preferred his torture to his speeches because dear Eru those were a whole new level of pain-“
“Heard all of two before being mauled. Definitely preferred the werewolf.”
Celebrimbor sometimes joins these sessions but he’s got the additional years of having known Annatar and it’s therapeutic to talk about how self absorbed he was to people who really understand. Safe to say Maedhros and Finrod sombrely commiserate the kid on dealing with that for centuries.
“How did you two become friends??”
“I think his vanity numbed my brain.”
“That’s fair.”
#there’s a surprising amount of Celebrimbor on this blog for someone who barely wrote about him until three months ago#not that I’m complaining. Indulging into some kidnap family headcanons and ideas that I've had or have seen floating around my timeline.
I like to imagine that yes, love grew between them.
Love grew when Maglor would sing the children to sleep and banish their nightmares away.
Love grew when when the children were hungry, and Maedhros or Maglor would slide half of their portion of food into their plate, so that they would never go hungry.
Love grew when Elrond and Elros wanted to sneak into the kitchen and steal some sweet treats. Maglor would catch them and put the treats away, because human children might get cavities if they eat too much sweets. Maedhros would place the treats on their beds when no one was looking.
Love grew when Elros tired of learning music scales, and began to hide under Maedhros' desk.
Love grew when Elrond began to bring little injured animals inside, in order to treat them, begging Maglor to sing them better. Maglor indulged him, but the songs were never as effective as they could be, despite the power in Maglor's voice -- too much blood on his hands for them to be the hands of a healer.
Love grew when Elrond begged Maedhros to teach him how to use a sword, arguing that a dead healer was worse than a mediocre swordsman.
Love grew when Elrond and Elros understood that Maedhros was teaching them how to defeat him and Maglor should they ever be on opposite sides. (I read this somewhere and it breaks my heart everytime I think about it).
Love grew when Maglor would teach them how to be princes of the Noldor, how to behave in a court, how to welcome their guests. Maedhros would teach them languages and diplomacy, and how to keep a kingdom's finances in check.
Love grew, between a tale of their lineage and a chess match in front of the fire.
Love grew when Maedhros and Maglor would ride out to clear the lands of orcs and other foes, because they had two little princes to protect and keep safe.
Love was between them when Maedhros and Maglor gave them their own heirlooms to pass onto their future children, and sent them off to Gil-Galad with the rest of their scant court.
The last gift Maedhros and Maglor could give Elrond and Elros was to spare them the grief of their last moments, when the oath swallowed their last shreds of sanity.

imladris lads :D it started off as a few doodles of gildor bc of a great prompt i received from an anon a few weeks ago, and then spiralled into something else entirely bc i havent really taken the time to explore much of anything imladris-related? i really like the lindir-is-maglor concept so heres my take on how it couldve happened haha
as always, credit to Cartoon Network for the sparkly pink BG
thanks so much for the ask!! here's my take on gildor :DD i really like the way anon asked the question and it was what inspired me to draw finrod in the mix too strangely enough?? the vibes are similar 🤭

'twas such a perfect setup too :'(((#im not sure what the statistics of elf adoption are but from what ive seen its not too common? i like to think it did happen however#so i like to imagine finrod adopted a young orphaned gildor and raised him as his own hehe#opens up a lot of doors for familial doubts esp after finrod reembodies and presumably has his own kids with amarie?#prob smthn along the lines of gildor expecting to be set aside bc hes not his blood son or whatever when he arrives in valinor...#anyways reembodied glorfindel's hair keeps changing lengths bc.... yeah HAHAHA#arwen has many many uncles !!!#lindir#celebrian#elladan#elrohir#arwen undomiel#imladris#rivendell#the silmarillion#elves#silm art#tolkien#rin replies#tolkien fanart#sakasakart#silmarillion comic#finrod

sometimes we just need someone to pay enough attention.
for the longest time i had been trying to read The Lord of The Rings. everyone had sung the praises for it, over and over. i'd seen clips of the movie and it seemed like it could be fun, but actually reading it was fucking horrible.
my parents had the omnibus - all the books squished into one big tome - and in the 4th grade i started sort of an annual tradition: i would start trying to read TLR and get frustrated after about a month and put it back down. at first i figured i was just too young for it, and that it would eventually make sense.
but every time i came back to it, i would find myself having the exact same experience: it was confusing, weird, and dry as a fucking bone. i couldn't figure it out. how had everyone else on earth read this book and enjoyed it? how had they made movies out of this thing? it was, like, barely coherent. i would see it on "classics" list and on every fantasy/sci-fi list and everyone said i should read it; but i figured that it was like my opinion of great expectations - just because it's a classic doesn't mean i'm going to like experiencing it.
at 20, i began the process of forcing myself through it. if i had to treat the experience like a self-inflicted textbook, i would - but i was going to read it.
my mom came across me taking notes at our kitchen table. i was on the last few pages of the first book in the omnibus, and i was dreading moving on to the next. she smiled down at me. only you would take notes on creative writing. then she sat down and her brow wrinkled. wait. why are you taking notes on this?
i said the thing i always said - it's boring, and i forget what's happening in it because it's so weird, and dense. and strange.
she nodded a little, and started to stand up. and then sat back down and said - wait, will you show me the book?
i was happy to hand it over, annoyed with the fact i'd barely made a dent in the monster of a thing. she pulled it to herself, pushing her glasses up so she could read the tiny writing. for a moment, she was silent, and then she let out a cackle. she wouldn't stop laughing. oh my god. i cannot wait to tell your father.
i was immediately defensive. okay, maybe i'm stupid but i've been trying to read this since the 4th grade and -
she shook her head. raquel, this is the Silmarillion. you've been reading the Silmarillion, not the lord of the rings.
anyway, it turns out that the hobbit and lord of the rings series are all super good and i understand why they're recommended reading. but good lord (of the rings), i wish somebody had just asked - wait. this kind of thing is right up your alley. you love fantasy. it sounds like something might be wrong. why do you think it's so boring?
#thanks for reminding me this happened#writeblr#warm up#i don't think this story translates well to the page#IRONIC!!!! :)#but yeah man i read the Silmarillion before i read the hobbit#the omnibus didn't explain what it was and i figured - you start at the beginning and then you read from the beginning#that's how books work#how was i supposed to know#EDIT IN THE TAGS: hi i think i worded this in a confusing way#the omnibus had ALL the stories in it - the silm#the hobbit#and all of LOTR#they just put the silm in the front so i thought logically it was the first book#that's how an omnibus usually works after all - the first book in the series is the first book in the tome#to be fair i GUESS the silm takes place “before” the hobbit????

Elvish art genre that definitely exists in Middle-Earth: the captivity of Elrond and Elros (mostly just Elrond, especially after Elros dies)
The paintings– done mostly, but not always, by Sindarin and anti-Feanorian Noldor artists– are usually studies in contrast– Elrond as the bright, innocent child dressed in white; often portrayed as a small, frightened elfling, frozen at the moment he was taken from Sirion. Sometimes he is shown bravely resisting the cruelty of the Feanorians, other times he mourns for Sirion, or bows and prays to the gods for deliverance. Sometimes, he's given wings, both to stress his connection with Luthien and Elwing and to make him look more angelic and pure in comparison to the fallen Feanorians.
Maedhros and Maglor are the dark monsters the oath made them, with teeth, and claws, and harsh armor. Some of the more daring artists just portray Maedhros as an actual orc. While few of the paintings actually show the Feanorians' crimes, they're often portrayed with blood on their hands or swords, or simply surrounded by fire and destruction. They often demand, or threaten in the pictures, towering over Elrond and casting long shadows on him.
There's a few different sub-genres of these paintings. The ones that explicitly compare Elrond's situation to Luthien's kidnapping by Celegorm. The ones that feature a grateful Elrond being saved from the horrible Feanorians by whoever the artist is looking to valorize– Gil-Galad, Galadriel, Oropher, Eonwe, etc. The ones that show Elrond, locked in a dark cell, staring longingly out at Gil-Estel rising in the night sky. Some of the strangest are the ones that draw connections between the Silmarils being kept in Morgoth's crown and the twins– often with Maedhros playing the role of Morgoth.
Elrond hates almost all of these paintings. He feels like they take away his ability to define his past the way he wants to– to tell his own story. Most of them are grossly inaccurate, but most people don't know that, and dredging up all those really painful memories to try and correct people's assumption is hard. Sometimes, even when he does, people won't listen. Some of the paintings also seem... weirdly gleeful about the idea that Elrond suffered because of the Feanorians? Like they're trying to martyr him even though he's alive, and doesn't want to be martyred. It all makes him really, really uncomfortable.
There is one exception. It's not a very traditional example of captivity paintings. Elrond is at the center of the frame, shown not as a small child but as a young adult. Maglor and Maedhros are mostly unseen in the background, each with a bloody hand on one of Elrond's shoulders. Unlike the other paintings, instead of looking off into the distance or staring demurely at the ground, Elrond is looking straight out at the viewer His expression is hard to place. Anger? Acceptance? Defiance? Pity? Accusation? It's a very odd picture that unsettles almost everyone that look at it.
Elrond insists on hanging it in Rivendell.
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#silm meta#elrond#elrond peredhel#eldritch peredhel#maglor#maedhros#i think a lot about how the elves would've turned their history into art#and i can very easily see Elrond becoming a muse for a lot of different types of paintings#including ones he'd really rather not be included in#it's hard because he knows that many of the Sindar have every right to see Maedhros and Maglor as monsters#but it's still really difficult for him to see them portrayed that way when he cared about them both deeply#the Maedhros and Morgoth comparisons are especially uncomfortable for Elrond#and he knows they would've been really upsetting for Maedhros#kidnap fam#kidnap dads

Gil-galad Variations, featuring all the gil galad theories i've encountered.
#silm#silmarillion#gil galad#gil galad son of plothole#<- best tag lol#personally i like the maglor theory#son of lalwen is probably my second favorite?#also that would make him the 16th known finwean grandkid#the aegnor/andreth peredhel variant is interesting#also i feel like when everyone meets him in valinor/the halls finrod would just look at aegnor like :/#finrod: 'if you were just going to ignroe my whole speech you could have at least told me so i could get birthday gifts for the kid!'#the russingon one looks very much like nerdanel lol#both the maedhros ones' hair is *just* dark enough to not cause a diplomatic incident#the elured/elurin one is really funny#like. hes 0% noldor not even related to finwe at all. like. theyre descended from different cuvienen families. they literally are 0% relate#he was raised by cirdan who is also 0% noldor#but he is somehow a better king of the noldor than like 90% of the previous ones#even funnier if hes Just A Guy#did they accidentally switch the real finwean baby? did they just grab a random kid and go 'oh well close enough'? who knows?#i think princess-faelivrin has a FAQ about the leading version of fin-galad (gil galad being finduilas)

a while ago i was sent an ask from @waterjewelsspite (answered below) wherein i was asked about different elven fashions.... so from left to right: doriathrim fashion, teleri + nargothrond fashion, vanya fashion :DD these have been sitting in my drafts as uncoloured wips since early 2022 omg, but better late than never i suppose !!!
i didnt have a specific sketch page for the noldor that i did back then hahahaha so i came back to it recently and took it as a chance to do some assorted concept doodles with the kind of outfits i imagine them wearing in mundane situations? i dont quite know how to explain it but i hope my annotations can help show my thought process a bit!!
cant believe it took me this long to give like half the characters proper fullbody refs or designs (im looking at YOU beleg and mablung) but this has been super fun and really refreshing, so thank you again waterjewelsspite for the kind ask!!! sorry again it took. two and a half years. OMG. for me to get it done 😭😭😭 i hope this sufficed!!!

My hot take is that Maedhros and Maglor would not be all that suprised that Silmarils burned them - they know what they did.
But. They would, completely irrationally, be suprised that Silmarils burned their brother.
#they each believe that the other one is a better person than them#and obviously not deserving of burning unlike them#you would think they know better#so did they#yet here we are#they are so unwell about each other#maedhros#maglor#silmarils#silmarillion#silm
