a while ago i was sent an ask from @waterjewelsspite (answered below) wherein i was asked about different elven fashions.... so from left to right: doriathrim fashion, teleri + nargothrond fashion, vanya fashion :DD these have been sitting in my drafts as uncoloured wips since early 2022 omg, but better late than never i suppose !!!
i didnt have a specific sketch page for the noldor that i did back then hahahaha so i came back to it recently and took it as a chance to do some assorted concept doodles with the kind of outfits i imagine them wearing in mundane situations? i dont quite know how to explain it but i hope my annotations can help show my thought process a bit!!
Tumblr media
cant believe it took me this long to give like half the characters proper fullbody refs or designs (im looking at YOU beleg and mablung) but this has been super fun and really refreshing, so thank you again waterjewelsspite for the kind ask!!! sorry again it took. two and a half years. OMG. for me to get it done 😭😭😭 i hope this sufficed!!!
in usual fashion, bonus feanorian shenanigans: caranthir's first business/publishing/entrepreneurship/girlboss venture

indis the fair.
vanyar are no strangers to the dramatic in their worship and in their attire, but indis’ mask, donned to shroud what can be seen of her soul through her eyes, would be unusual and considered an affront by the calaquendi who blame her for the actions of finwë and his descendants.

I think we can all agree the elves don’t have periods, right?
Bc a period is the bodily function when people with uteruses expell an egg or two from their womb bc they didn’t get pregnant (this is a v bastardized version of the entire explenation) and the amount of eggs a uterus has is finite, meaning that there is a certain number you have before you are done. Humans run out of eggs at around 50-60 y/o, i cannot imagine how many eggs an elf would need to have at birth in order to have that bodily function for eternity, bc they do not age.
Furthermore, bc having kids is such a deliberate move amungst elves (from what i understand) where they need to creat the child’s soul, it doesn’t make sense to have a bodily function amongst the elves around child creation that’s, for lack of better words, so accidental and unreliable.
Therefor, i do not think elves have periods. It does not make sense for them to have them.

Deep respect to the elves...
About 9000 years of written history
Only three attacks on other elves
Only one battle with dwarves
No slavery
No poison used in diplomacy
No assasination in between the aristocrats
Nobody slept with kings wife
...they really are good people even in the Silmarillion compared to ....you know ...humanity on Earth for example

Turgon and Argon were so tall because the Vanyar are generally taller than Noldor. Maedhros was tall for a Noldo. Indis’ Vanya blood made Arfin and Nolo taller than Náro. This is all well and good until I try to defend Short Fingon

I HATE the retcon Tolkien made about only the Vanyar having golden hair.
It just feels like there's a layer of Eugenics to it.
All these blondes who look alike are an exclusive club who stick the closest together and also they're flawless and incapable of making mistakes and God's chosen ones. Ugh... I'm kinda getting the ick.
I love that the Noldor can basically pass as Teleri & Sindar and vice versa, it feels like there's less of a separation between these two groups and I like there isn't that much of a divide like the Teleri are lesser or anything.
Golden haired purely Sindarin Thranduil you will always be special to me. You don't need to be descended from the chosen one club to be special, just as your son Legolas proved you don't need to be a descendant of Finwe or Thingol to be special.

Everyone’s saying “ugh it’s such sexist writing that most of the women are left behind in Valinor when the Noldor go into exile” and I’m like, “huh???”
Nerdanel flat-out REFUSED to get dragged into the mess her husband started and chose to proceed with the path of her life that she always wanted and intended, which was eternity in Valinor. Same with Indis, Findis, Anairë, and Eärwen. After hearing Fëanor’s stupid oath, they all CHOSE to say “I’m not cleaning up your messes or betraying the Valar for you idiots.”
And I love that for them.

Elven Dessert headcanons
Tumblr media
Sindar: Tarts are the most popular dessert among the Sindar. The Elves of Doriath like to use fresh berries in their tarts— the most popular one being blackberries. Blackberry tarts also happen to be Lúthien's favorite kind of dessert. Strawberry tarts are also well-liked, but it’s saved for special occasions. Melian, however, has a preference for cherry tarts. The Doriathrim are also known to use floral ingredients in their tarts, like elderflowers, lavender, and even roses. Their signature delicacy is the strawberry rose tart— an exquisite dessert that’s eaten during the annual Midsummer Feast, and during weddings. A special blackberry rose tart was served at the wedding of Beren and Lúthien, and the strawberry rose tart was served at the wedding of Dior and Nimloth. Among the Sindar of the Falas, egg tarts are very popular, and they also happen to be Thingol's favorite kind of tart as well. The Sindar of the Falas also enjoy treacle tarts during the Yuletide holiday, and this tradition continues well into the Third Age among the Elves of Mirkwood. Even Elrond himself has a preference for fruit tarts, and he had a cherry tart made for his wedding with Celebrian.
Tumblr media
Vanyar: Cakes are their most preferred desserts. They have invented many different varieties of cakes in Valinor, and they are also skilled in the art of elaborate cake decorating. The most popular cake variety among the Vanyar is the sponge cake— it's served as a three-tiered cake, coated with rich buttercream icing of different colors, and these cakes will typically have very intricate decorations on each tier. Three-tiered sponge cakes are commonly served at Vanyarin weddings, including the weddings of Finwë and Indis, and Turgon and Elenwë. After the destruction of the Two Trees, the Vanyar Elves of Valimar create a special two-tiered cake colored silver and gold, and it's only ever served in remembrance of the Two Trees themselves. And following the War of Wrath, they create a white and gold cake to celebrate their victory over the forces of Morgoth, which becomes a tradition on every anniversary of Morgoth's imprisonment in the Void.
Tumblr media
Teleri: Though the Teleri are renowned for their ship-building, they are just as well-known for their beautiful pastry desserts. Their most commonly-used ingredients are chopped nuts, honey, and other sweet syrups. The most popular Telerin desserts are frangipane sweets, baklava, and mille-feuille. Baklava is especially popular among the Teleri of Alqualondë, and it’s a favorite dessert of Princess Eärwen herself. Her father, on the other hand, prefers rose-flavored lokum, the chewy gelatinous candy coated in powdered sugar, which is a delicacy mostly enjoyed during festivals and weddings. A commemorative box of lokum and baklava was given out to the people of Alqualondë during the wedding of Finarfin and Eärwen. Lokum is especially popular among the Teleri of Tol Eressëa, and it was one of the sweets they shared with the Dúnedain of Númenor during the early years of the Second Age— where it would become a very popular Númenórean dessert.
Tumblr media
Noldor: Biscuits and cookies are their preferred dessert. They’re quick and easy to make, and they can be enjoyed while they’re reading or smithing. Butter biscuits are very popular among the Noldorin population of Aman, and they happen to be Fëanor's favorite kind. When Fëanor and Nerdanel were married, Finwë handed out commemorative tins of butter biscuits to celebrate their union. The same thing happened for the wedding of Fingolfin and Anairë as well. These butter biscuits are also enjoyed in Nargothrond and Eregion, and are a common gift given during the Yule holiday. The Noldor of Gondolin, on the other hand, prefer sandwich biscuits with a rich ganache filling. When Tuor and Idril were married, a tin of these biscuits were given as commemorative gifts to the city's population. And though the ingredients of Middle-earth aren't the same as those in the Blessed Realm, the Noldor were quick to adapt and utilize these new ingredients to make these biscuits.
