Finrod and Maedhros in the halls or post embodiment talking about Sauron.
Not about the torture or the agony they went through, more like gossiping on how much of a peacock he was, strutting around and bragging about how beautiful he is.
If you came across them in the street you’d think they’re talking about one of those overdressed Tirion nobles, but then you hear “I preferred his torture to his speeches because dear Eru those were a whole new level of pain-“
“Heard all of two before being mauled. Definitely preferred the werewolf.”
Celebrimbor sometimes joins these sessions but he’s got the additional years of having known Annatar and it’s therapeutic to talk about how self absorbed he was to people who really understand. Safe to say Maedhros and Finrod sombrely commiserate the kid on dealing with that for centuries.
“How did you two become friends??”
“I think his vanity numbed my brain.”
“That’s fair.”

One problem I have with Tolkien’s approach toward Galadriel's characterization in The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales is that her desire for her own kingdom to rule is painted as a bad thing that she needs to let go of. She’s “proud” for wanting that kind of position and needs to be humbled enough to realize she shouldn’t. But the text never depicts Fingolfin or Fingon or Turgon or Finrod or Aragorn - or any of the male characters who become rulers - as wrong for having the same aspiration.

Earwen and Finarfin are the most even-tempered noldo around and somehow spawned these total chaos rockets who bite werewolfs to death, fall in love with mortals, and run off with hippies in the woods. Since Finarfin is more straight-laced than Turgon, the only explanation is that Earwen is secretly also an eldritch diva who presumably brews moonshine and has even less sense than her children.

While reading "Your shadow rising to meet you" by @chthonion, I remembered how much I love Finrod, so here's a quick sketch 💙 (I know, every time I post an elf I'm like "I love them so much!" but IT'S TRUEEEE! OTZ)
I hope you like it! <:
ps: ref taken from Pinterest - I couldn't figure out the original source though, sorry!

Finrod and Fingon feed off each other’s chaotic energy. Leave them in a room and next thing you know they’ve accidentally exploded their way out and are heading to jump off a cliff just to see what it’s like.
There’s a reason they were kept apart in Beleriand. Maedhros wasn’t there to watch over them and keep them alive. Fingolfin has Experience of the Chaos and doesn’t trust anyone else to do the job.
It was honestly somewhat of a relief when Finrod built a secret city and refused to give the exact location, though Fingolfin kept a close eye on his son in case he decided to try and find it. Valar knew Fingon had no sense of self preservation… and an uncanny luck that led to more chaos than anyone could handle.

When Tolkien needed an excuse for Finrod to wander the eastern forests the idea of him hunting with any of the actual hunters (Celegorm, Amrod, Amras) that live in that area was so unrealistic to him he could only bring in the musician and the amputee. Finrod’s staunch adversity to spending time with Celegorm makes Nargothrond hilarious, because it was heavily laced with ‘only since I like your brothers.’

The Journey of Felagund Ingoldo Findarato
For @arafinwean-week, day two, Finrod.
The first encapsulates Finrod's journey. It moves from the left down, then up to the top right down. On the left: Valinor, the mountains, the beaches of Alqualonde, and the beginning of the Helcaraxe on the left. The Halcaraxe continues to the right side, and on the right there is also Beleriand, Dorthonion on fire or Angband, and the rivers parting closer to the center imply Tol Sirion. Then there are bits of fire, and blood.
The center - the gold. Finrod's hair, his personality, shining and bright. Half a circlet on the right side of his head, the front side, facing forward, looking out east. Showing his ambition, his kingship in the East.
The Helcaraxe, lands of Beleriand, Sauron's fire and dungeon, then streaks of blood like claw marks are all entwined into his hair, showing that though he leaves back West, those lands and pain are entwined with him, and who he is.
(And small fun detail, rose gold in the gold that is him towards the right and bottom. Bloodstains, or foreshadowing the blood that comes.)
Then the next three pieces;
Green is Felagund, with much gold and blue weaving in and out. I put green and Felagund together due to Finrod's own green heraldry, and the name he was gifted for who he is.
Blue is Ingoldo. The colors and name of his father, and the past. The face he shows, the colors he bears, who he shows to others.
Gold is Findarato. Both, gold and the name, are his appearance. How others see him. Bits of green, who he is, and more blue, who he presents himself as.
Materials: 10in x 8in canvas, PVA glue, assorted glitter, little hot glue on the journey piece.
