east tennessee native here, and we don't call them "halfbacks" but the problem is just awful. we have about 30,000 people in my town and most of them live in the older, eastern part of town, and range from poverty-level to middle class. but those "halfbacks" have been tearing up our natural ridges, buying up lake property that used to be priced reasonably for the middle class, and selling it all to other rich folks or to development companies, or using them as vacation houses for a month or two a year.
what's worse is that the local government thinks that pandering to them is the best option since they're rich. our tax dollars aren't going towards upkeep and renovation for the older part of town, which has many more people, but to developing the beautiful forested ridges and farmland on the western end into upper-middle class, cookie-cutter house subdivisions, or worse.
then the devils decided to build a community center - which would be great, if it was in a place accessible to everyone. instead, they build it way out on the west end, too far for those without transportation to walk, and the real kicker is that, even though our tax dollars fund and maintain it, they still charge you a fee to enter. it's plain out tailored to the rich folks.
i don't know what to do about it other than get sad. i'm sick and tired of rich folks and northern conservatives buying out our land and then coming down here and pretending we've ever thought like they did, or that they could ever fit in with the salt of the earth when they're the scum of the earth.
"i'm sick and tired of rich folks and northern conservatives buying out our land and then coming down here and pretending we've ever thought like they did, or that they could ever fit in with the salt of the earth when they're the scum of the earth."
tattoo. that. on. my. ass.
man. reading this ask stoked a real ancient anger in me. i don't know what to do except be sad, neither. sad n pissed.
the speed with which the general sentiment went from "fuck appalachia, let's just saw yall off into the ocean" to "i can fix her with my old money and my backwards politics, actually" liked to gave me whiplash.
atp, id rather them stay home, keep their uninformed beliefs about appalachia and let us in peace to do our thing. better than them coming up the holler and cutting down a tree just to make an expensive sign telling us we're spellin hollow wrong

ELVIS PRESLEY, RCA RECORDS ARTIST (Nov. 1955)
The story behind one of my favorite 50's Elvis pictures ♥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
November 21, 1955: Elvis Presley at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. RCA Victor Records purchased Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sam Phillips (Sun Records) for a then unheard of sum of $35,000.
Here's the full picture: Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis, Bob Neal (his second manager, after Scotty Moore and prior to Colonel Parker) and country music singer Hank Snow at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN, after signing the RCA contract at the Sun Records studio, previously in the same day.
Let's read a bit about the contract, afterwards.
Tumblr media
On November 21, Steve Sholes, Ben Starr, Coleman Tily, the Colonel, Tom Diskin, Hank Snow, local RCA distributor Jim Crudgington, and regional rep Sam Esgro all converged on the little Sun studio for the signing of the papers. Colonel Parker came accompanied by a document dated the same day stipulating that out of the 40 percent in combined commissions due the Colonel and Bob Neal (25 percent to the Colonel, 15 percent to Neal), there would be an even split for the duration of Neal's agreement, until March 15, 1956. The buyout agreement itself was a simple two-page document in which Sun Records agreed to tum over all tapes and cease all distribution and sales of previously released recordings as of December 31, 1955, while the managers "do hereby sell, assign and transfer unto RCA all of their right, title and interest in and to" the previously exercised option agreement. The purchase price was $35,000; RCA undertook responsibility for the payment of all back royalties and held Sun Records harmless from any subsequent claims. Out of all this Elvis Presley would get a royalty of 5 percent as opposed to the 3 percent that he was currently receiving from Sun - this amounted to almost two cents more per record sold, which over the course of a million sales would come to about $18,000. In addition, as the result of a co-publishing arrangement that the Colonel had entered into with Hill and Range (who probably contributed substantially themselves toward the purchase price), Elvis would now receive half of the two-cent statutory mechanical fee and half of the two-cent broadcast fee on all new Hill and Range compositions that he recorded, which would be registered through his own publishing company. If at this point he were to start writing songs as well, or, perhaps more pertinently, if he were to start claiming songwriting credit for songs he recorded, a practice going back to time immemorial in the recording industry, he could increase his income by up to another two cents per side. Hill and Range, meanwhile, stood to gain an almost incalculable advantage over their competitors in the field by securing not just an inside track, but what amounted to virtually a right of first refusal from the hottest new singing sensation in the country. After the contract was signed, there was a picture-taking ceremony, with different configurations of the various parties involved. In one Elvis is flanked by the Colonel and Hank Snow, proud partners in Jamboree Attractions, while Bob Neal, to Snow's left, jovially approves; in another Gladys plants a kiss upon her son's cheek and clutches her black handbag as the Colonel pats her on the shoulder and Vernon looks stiffly on. In yet another Sam and Elvis shake hands across RCA attorney Coleman Tily. In all the pictures all the men are beaming - everyone has seemingly gotten exactly what he wanted. After the picture taking a number of the participants dropped by for a brief on-air appearance on Marion Keisker's show in the brand-new WHER studios. "They thought it would be great fun," said Marion, "if they all came over and we announced it. So they all crowded into the little control room, and we did a little four-or-five-way interview, well, not really an interview, just a little chat. And in the course of it, I remember, Hank Snow said, 'I'm very proud this boy made his first appearance on the national scene on my section of the Grand Ole Opry.' And he was being such a pompous ass about it, I couldn't help it, but I said, 'Yes, and I remember, you had to ask him what his name was.' That was a rather tactless thing for me to do." — Excerpt: Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick (1994). Chapter "THE PIED PIPERS: September-November 1955".
OTHER PICTURES FROM THAT DAY - NOV. 21, 1955:
Elvis was 20 years old at the time, which means he was still legally a minor, therefore his father (Vernon Presley) also signed the contract, as his natural guardian, which is why Vernon and Gladys are there that day, in addition to the obvious reason (a big moment for their dear son).
The 1st picture below: the Colonel, Gladys, Elvis and Vernon Presley, H. Coleman Tily III (RCA's attorney) and Bob Neal at Sun Records (and a cropped picture of Elvis and Gladys just because <33); The second picture shows Bob Neal, Sam Phillips and Elvis shaking hands across RCA's attorney H. Coleman Tily III, and Colonel Parker; the third picture shows Elvis and Hank Snow that same day (Note: Elvis wearing a tie pictures were taken after the contract signing at Sun Records. The pictures were taken at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN), and the one after that shows Jim Crudgington (local RCA-Victor representative), Elvis and H. Coleman Tily III at Sun - Nov. 21, 1955.

Oblivion
A lil shorter more bittersweet chapter bc I'm going out for dinner later tn but I hope you still like it! In my mind, it's set post s5 finale but it's left ambiguous :). Lemme know what you think <3
AO3
The night sky shimmered with stars as Chat Noir prowled the rooftops. His emerald eyes scanned the city below. He was on the lookout for any signs of trouble, but tonight, his thoughts were elsewhere. Marinette had been unusually quiet during school lately, and he couldn't quite shake off the feeling that something was bothering her. Every time he tried to talk to her about it as Adrien, though, she seemed to avoid him and whatever the problem was. He didn’t know what it was but all he could think was that he needed to fix it somehow.
As if on cue, a soft voice called out from behind him, "Chaton?"
Unsurprisingly, his feet had taken him exactly where he needed to be. Right by Marinette’s balcony.
Chat turned to see Marinette standing on the edge of her balcony, her expression pensive as she clenched her railing. Even from this distance, he could see that her brow was creased in a frown and he tried to ignore the tug his heart gave at the sight.
"Hey, Marinette," he greeted, trying to sound casual despite the unease in his chest. "What brings you up here?"
Marinette sighed quietly, her gaze meeting his. "I needed some fresh air," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of sadness.
Sensing her turmoil, Chat extended his baton and hopped the small distance over to her balcony. He stepped closer to her, his shoulder brushing against hers as he instinctively wanted to comfort her. "Is everything okay?" he asked gently, his tail swaying behind him.
She hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, just... thinking about things," she admitted, her eyes searching his for understanding.
Chat didn't press her further, knowing that sometimes words weren't enough to express what weighed on the heart. Maybe he’d be able to distract her. Instead of asking more questions, he simply gestured to the starry sky above. "It's a beautiful night, isn't it? Sometimes, looking at the stars helps me clear my mind."
She smiled faintly, appreciating his attempt to lighten the mood. "Yeah, it is," Marinette agreed, her gaze drifting upwards.
They stood in a companionable silence, the cool breeze ruffling their hair as they gazed out into the vast expanse of the night sky. Chat couldn't help but steal glances over at Marinette, admiring the way her eyes seemed to sparkle in the starlight. They were beautiful. Even more brilliant than the night stars.
Suddenly, Marinette spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you ever feel like... everything is fleeting? Like we're just passing through, and one day, everything we know will be forgotten?"
Chat turned to her, surprised by the depth of her words. "Sometimes," he admitted, his voice tinged with melancholy. His thoughts turned to his mother and father before he quickly buried them. He didn’t want to think about that right now. He was Chat Noir. He wasn’t Adrien Agreste. Sucking in a deep breath, he continued, "But then I remember that even if everything else fades away, the moments we share, the bonds we forge, they're timeless."
Marinette met his gaze, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I want to believe that," she confessed, her voice wavering.
He took her hand in his, his touch gentle yet reassuring. "You're not alone, Marinette. As long as we're here, together, we'll never fade into oblivion. And, as long as I’m around, I’ll never forget you or the memories we shared."
A bittersweet smile graced her lips as she squeezed his hand, finding solace in his words. "Thank you, mon chaton. You have no idea just how much you helped me. I’ll do the same for you," she whispered, grateful for his unwavering presence.
Together, they stood there, underneath the beautiful blanket of stars, finding comfort in each other's company. Both of them buried their hurt of the past few days in each other, using the other for support like they had always done and would always continue to do.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
March 1, 2023
Heather Cox Richardson
Drugmaker Eli Lilly announced today that it will cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month, bringing costs for people with private insurance and those without insurance who sign up for Lilly’s copay assistance program into line with the $35 cap for Medicare recipients Congress imposed with the Inflation Reduction Act last August. Republicans all voted against the Inflation Reduction Act and explicitly stripped from it a measure that would have capped the cost of insulin at $35 for those not on Medicare. They continue to oppose the measure. On February 2, 2023, newly elected House Republican Andy Ogles (TN) introduced his first bill: a call to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, claiming it “took a gigantic step toward socialized medicine.” The bill had 20 far-right cosponsors. At the time he introduced the bill, Ogles presented himself as an economist with a degree in international relations from Middle Tennessee State University. Since then, an investigation by NewsChannel 5 in Nashville revealed that he took one course in economics and got a “C” in it, and that his resume was similarly exaggerated across the board. Ogles won a seat in Congress after the Republican state legislature redistricted Nashville to make it easier for a Republican to win there. Lilly’s announcement in the face of Republican support for big pharmaceutical companies is a bellwether for the country’s politics. Biden has pressured companies to bring down the price of insulin—most notably by calling for such legislation last month during his State of the Union address—and is claiming credit for Lilly’s decision. But there is more to it. The astronomically high price tags on U.S. insulin compared to the rest of the world have become a symbol of a society where profits trump lives, and there is growing opposition to the control pharmaceutical companies have over life-saving drugs. A number of other entities, including a nonprofit company in Utah called Civica Rx, the state of California, and a company run by billionaire Mark Cuban, have all promised to produce generic insulin at a fraction of what pharmaceutical companies are currently charging. Lilly's announcement is likely a reaction to the changing moment that has brought both political pressure and economic competition. The company’s leaders see the writing on the wall. The administration continues to work to create positive change in other measures important to ordinary Americans. This month ends temporary increases in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, previously referred to as “food stamps.” At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Congress boosted SNAP payments, keeping as many as 4.2 million people out of poverty. Congress ended those extra benefits late last year through the Consolidated Appropriations Act that funded the government. About 42 million Americans receive SNAP benefits, and the end of that boost will cut those benefits by $90 a month on average. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack wrote an op-ed at CNN today, promising that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers SNAP, will do its best to protect families losing the expanded benefits. It will work to adjust benefits to rising prices, expand school lunch programs, and promote access to the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. “Our country was founded to support the prosperity and potential of Americans in every corner of the nation,” Vilsack wrote. “Under President Joe Biden’s administration, we’re making good on this promise.” Yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing about the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex. Congress passed the amendment in 1972 and sent it off to the states for ratification, but they imposed on that ratification a seven-year deadline. Thirty states ratified it within the next year, but a fierce opposition campaign led by right-wing activist Phyllis Schlafly eroded support among Republicans, and although Congress extended the deadline by three years, only 35 states had signed on by 1977. And, confusing matters, legislatures in five states—Idaho, Kentucky, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Tennessee—voted to take back their earlier ratification. In 2017, Nevada became the first state to ratify the ERA since 1977. Then Illinois stepped up, and finally, in 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the amendment, putting it over the required three quarters of states needed for the amendment to become part of the Constitution. But now there are legal challenges to that ratification over both the original deadline and whether the states’ rescinding of previous ratifications has merit. The Senate hearing was designed to examine whether the deadline could be separated from the amendment to allow the amendment to be added to the Constitution, but it was far more revealing than that. Faced with the possibility that the ERA might become part of the Constitution, right-wing leaders insisted that the ERA has “just one purpose left,” as the Heritage Foundation put it: “Abortion.” They claim that since, in their view, women are now effectively equal to men across the board in employment and so on, women’s current demand for equality before the law is simply a way for them to capture abortion rights. Catholic bishops of the United States have written to senators to express “alarm” at the ERA, warning it would have “far-reaching consequences” with “negative impacts to the common good and to religious freedom.” They claim it would require federal funding for abortions and would prohibit “discrimination based on ‘sexual orientation,’ ‘gender identity,’ and other categories.” “We strongly urge you to oppose it,” they wrote, “and any resolution attempting to declare it ratified.” This fight highlights that the attempt to stop government protection of individuals is really about imposing the will of a minority. A piece by Megan O’Matz in ProPublica today explored how an anti-abortion law firm has been sowing doubts about the 2020 presidential election as part of a long-term strategy to end abortion rights. Led by former Kansas attorney general Phill Kline, whose law license was suspended a decade ago for ethics violations, lawyers at the Thomas More Society worked to restrict access to the vote and to stall President Joe Biden’s inauguration in order to keep Trump in office. Their efforts thrived on disinformation, of course, and the echoes from the testimony released recently in the defamation case of Dominion Voting Systems against the Fox Corporation continue to reverberate in the fight against public lies. In that testimony, both Fox News Channel hosts and top executives admitted that they knew Trump’s claims of victory in the 2020 presidential election were lies but spread them anyway to keep their viewers from abandoning them for another channel. Now House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has given exclusive access to 44,000 hours of video from the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, to one of those hosts, Tucker Carlson. Today, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) did an end run around McCarthy to address the problem of disinformation directly at the source. They sent a letter to Rupert Murdoch, chair of the Fox Corporation, and other top Fox executives, reminding them of their damning testimony and reminding them that “your network hosts continue to promote, spew, and perpetuate election conspiracy theories to this day.” They wrote: “We demand that you direct Tucker Carlson and other hosts on your network to stop spreading false election narratives and admit on the air that they were wrong to engage in such negligent behavior.” It is an important marker, and if the Fox Corporation can read the writing on the wall as well as Eli Lilly can, it might shift the focus of the Fox News Channel, which already seems to be trying to pull its support for Trump and give it to Florida governor Ron DeSantis. But that protest is unlikely to change the behavior of right-wing members of Congress. Yesterday, Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Mark Green (R-TN) blamed the Biden administration for the deaths of Caleb and Kyler Kiessling from fentanyl poisoning after their mother, an attorney and conservative activist, testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security. But the young men, along with 17-year-old Sophia Harris, died in July 2020, when Trump was president. When senior CNN reporter Daniel Dale asked Greene’s office why she had blamed Biden for the deaths, her congressional spokesperson, Nick Dyer, “responded by saying lots of people have died from drugs under Biden and ‘do you think they give a f*ck about your bullsh*t fact checking?’” Dale also asked him to comment on Greene’s lies about the 2020 presidential election yesterday. Dyer answered: “F*ck off.”

I want my wife back.
Foreword:Nanami divorces you but over time he realizes that you are pregnant and he wants you back with him.
chapter 1
narrates tn
I never thought that he would do this to me, it never crossed my mind that this would happen, he hated me but I never knew the reason why he was like this until a while ago he revealed the whole truth to me and what he told me was that the person who he loved so much had returned to his life and incidentally he confessed to me that I have always had all the fault that he has not been together with her.
Right now I have the divorce certificate in my hands, I just looked at it and figured out whether to sign it or not, but I thought a lot about 5 years of enduring so much pain, suffering, loving him even though he never loved me and I finally had the courage to sign it but before signing I told.
Tn: I hope you regret it later, I hope you made a good decision about all this that is happening.
Nanami:Stop saying shit and sign for a damn time-He tells me with such a hoarse tone of voice.
After he told me that, I finally signed the record.
Nanami: I hope that when I get back you're already gone-he says before leaving the home office.
All these years that we have both been occupying this office has been a witness to our love, well, call it love.
I was working with things for my family's company when he arrived very drunk and talking nonsense but it never crossed my mind that that day he made love to me for the first time.
After a few minutes of thinking about those events in which I have lived in these years and even more so after what happened in this office, I put my hand on my belly where my babies are now and gently caressed it can be said that this was the result of that day which not even he remembers what happened that time I do not want my children to suffer hell next to him as I suffered in these years with him that's when I see my nanny come in and look at me telling me .
Nana: My beautiful girl, why didn't you tell her about the babies? She tells me with a lot of concern on her face.
Tn: So I'll tell him if I know he would come out that I was unfaithful and that he would think that I want to tie him up with the babies that are not his.
Nana: But my girl but if they are his I saw you leave the office and incidentally I saw blood between your legs. I know that Mr. Nanami has been your first man who has touched you.
Tn: Lose nana but he would never believe me so it would be better that way less suffering for me and thank you nana for keeping the secret and not only that of many but even so even if I leave never tell him that I am the owner of the rival company of please nana never tell him.
Nana: I'm never going to let you down, my girl, and if you allow me, let me go with you, I know you'll need my help, especially in the condition you're in, she says, approaching me with concern.
Tn: It's ok even so I thank you for not telling him my condition and my secret-I tell him.
Nana: I know, well, we're going to pack up before he comes, but I'll tell you one thing, my girl, that he'll be sorry afterwards.
Tn: I know nana and when that happens I won't be the same as before.
After that, 6 days passed since Nanami asked me for a divorce and I left the house but my luck was that my mother never sold the penthouse of the most famous hotel in Japan that she bought for me when I was in university studying business administration and architecture thanks to that I had quite a few hidden income accounts and no one has ever known that I am the owner of the Diamonds company.
Honestly, my days have been better, but well, not everything is rosy. I received a call from nanami.
Nanami: I want you in an hour at the company, did you understand and I don't want no for an answer you-he says and then hangs up the call.
After the call I decided to prepare myself to go to the company where my family and his joined forces thanks to this marriage to grow the company that is now a success in the country, well, although its fame is diminishing a bit thanks to your rival company (my company).
Anyway, after an hour I finally arrived at the company and when I arrived the secretary receives me to tell me that they are waiting for me in the meeting room and they were all including him.
Nanami:I'm going to get to the point, everyone is here to let you know that tn tp will be the new president of the company-she says in a slightly angry tone-I always suggest here but I'll be like a secretary for the young lady.
Now I do run the risk of him finding out about my pregnancy and that's the least I want him to find out.
Everyone congratulates me without excuses.
Nanami: Any questions y'all.
T: There isn't.
Nanami: That's all, I'll leave then.
I see him leave the room, and for my part, I stayed for a few minutes thinking about what my life will be like from now on.
I just hope that all this doesn't bring me problems, I just have to move on because of my pregnancy.
I leave the meeting room to go to the elevator and finally leave the company but first I need to go somewhere, I have many cravings so I call my friend to ask her about somewhere she knows.
Call:
Tn: Hello Rosa, how are you?
Rosa: Hi, very good, thanks for asking.
Tn: Rosa I wanted to ask you if you know a place with tasty food.
Rosa: Yes, a few blocks from the Diamonds company there is a place there, the food is very delicious. I'll accompany you so you don't get lost, you know we're friends.
Tn: Thank you very much, what do you think if I pick you up at your house, I'll let you know when I'm outside, ok, because I need to talk to you about something.
Rosa: Ok see you friend.
Y/n: bye
End of call.
I need to tell her about my divorce with nanami and about the pregnancy she is my friend since we were little. We treat each other like sisters.

i mean they def have a deal with dispatch but I think their fans would def blab if they saw them that often in sk, I mean I'm sure k-fans are respectful but there are always fans that aren't in every country and they wouldn't hesitate to talk about it, so that whole open secret bs seems well like bs to me, I know celebs have a way of going unnoticed but tn are really not just any celebs they're some of the biggest starts in sk right now, a rumor that juicy would not stay hidden imo, especially considering that every time they're supposedly caught, they're always galavanting about with no masks like they're not the biggest stars, I mean if that's how they go on dates someone definitely would've caught them a million times by now
Hi anon!
Mmm, I think the answer to the question: "are celebs able to go out unseen?" is a complex one. It's not a case of, they dress up completely unrecognizable, or they have people on the look out at every corner to asure their safety. Celebs are ofcourse not staying holed up in their appartements all the time. They go out for dinner with friends and for dates, they go out clubbing, they go to shops, they go for walks... there's certainly stuff they can't do, but there's also stuff they can. Most of the time, people won't even look at everyone they pass by in the streets. How well do you pay attention when you walk through town? Especcially in a large city, people will often pass each other by without a glance. If a celeb dresses in normal daywear, puts on a cap and sunglasses, that might already do the trick. Also, in the places celebs come often, their appearance won't cause a fuss. At those places they aren't Tae and Jk from BTS any longer, they are just regulars. They won't get photographed every time they enter, and no one will post about it.. because it's no longer a big deal. Most people are also not a*holes who have to throw everything online. Some fans will freak out when they meet their faves, but neutral people will maybe only ask for an autograph or pic, and just keep it for themselves.
Things change ofcourse when celebs start to date. That is something they'd want to avoid leaking, especcially idols. But there's ways to go out and stay private. There's many restaurants and clubs for instance where personel will not spill information. They can't because they've signed nda's (because of their employers, not because of the celeb) that prevent them from spilling company information. The information about guests and customers will also fall under that. Those restaurants have an image to uphold. They know when they break a celebs trust that will refelct badly on them, and they might lose many celebrity customers because of it. So at those places, celebs will be able to date unseen to the rest of the world. elebs also cover for each other. So if a couple was going to go out at a place more celebs hang, they can be fairly sure that no-one will spill. In general, there are places to go if you want to stay hidden, but you don't want to stay home.
But, I do think a lot has to do with people not paying attention. If you don't know what to look for, or if you don't know there is something to look for, you won't find anything. Now with Tae and Jennie, people have been looking. And I gather people have been looking hard the last year or so. Especcially after Paris, I think it would be way harder to keep something like this hidden when people know where and when to look. So I think we would have seen more by now if they were actually a hidden secret in SK.

10 Rappers You Should Know Right Now on Spotify, Youtube , Apple, & Tiktok
Tumblr media
Finesse2Tymes, StreetMoney Boochie, AR The Mermaid, Slimeroni, and Diddy DaDon are among the artists on our radar — they should be on your radar, too.
Finesse2Tymes
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Finesse2Tymes began his career more than a decade ago as a member of Memphis Greatest Underrated, a rap group formed in the early 2010s alongside Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta. Over the last decade, prison stints slowed down his momentum: after building a groundswell of local support in the few years prior, he was sentenced to five years in federal prison on a firearm charge in 2018. Upon his release this past summer, he hit the ground running, releasing a string of singles leading up to his 90 Days project in December. On “Finesse Duh P” he brings his world-weary delivery to his relationships, rapping in his gravelly tone over bluesy piano runs.
Streetmoney Boochie
youtube
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Tumblr media
Our first time seeing Boochie was 2016 with Bankroll fresh on “Walked In”, then with Nefew & Trouble “Soulja rags that went viral for bringing tanks to the apartments in Atlanta
A.R. The Mermaid
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Memphis TN has been consistently dominating air waves for a minute now, but these days it seems the stakes just keep escalating.  “Let A Hoe Play’ is undeniable! Her notoriety is rapidly going up as listeners grab hold of the latest drop. Even Drake has decided AR The Mermaid is a force to be reckoned with, recently dropping a follow on Instagram.
Trench Babys ENT
youtube
Hometown: Tampa, FL
Can’t lie the trench baby's Went In On This. self explanatory.
Slimeroni
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Slim, gorgeous and multi-talented, Miss Slimeroni is a female rapper hailing from Memphis, Tennessee!
Joining the company of veterans like Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo, the late Young Dolph, the newest female sensation Glorilla, and many other greats, Slimeroni oozes on the scene as an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with.
Diddy DaDon
youtube
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Tumblr media
For an artist so young, Diddy DADON has several lifetimes of experience behind him. His songs are filled with dense imagery and careful details conveyed in a measured cadence that exudes a hunger and intensity that far exceeds his age.
FreshDuzIt
youtube
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
Tumblr media
Spend an hour or two in a Indiana rap YouTube hole and you'll end up hearing a lot of songs that sound the same. FreshDuzIt on the other hand, tends to stand out. He's incredibly consistent (he's dropped 4 projects alone in 2022) featuring hits with the biggest stars in rap.
Sexyy Red
youtube
Hometown: St. Louis, MO
Tumblr media
Sexyy Redd has been our radar since her and Summer Walker teamed up for there "Sense dat God gave you" visual.
Kookie
youtube
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Tumblr media
For a rapper with some of the hardest, most gore-fixated bars, Kookei has a laughably “soft” name. The Detroit native, whose sweets-invoking nom de plume was inspired by a childhood stint as a bake-sale maven, raps in a hushed, almost jokey tone, which makes his grim lyrics — about pissing on the opposition’s graves, when not outright blowing off their heads — sound both seductive and scary. Inspired by the carnage-heavy one-liners of early Eminem, Kookei decided, two years ago, to turn himself into a rapper. After posting a few loosies on YouTube, he released Psychopath, his excellent debut — boasting 20 macabre but mellifluous songs — earlier this year. You don’t have to have a cast-iron stomach to digest it: Psychopath is fun, provocative, and wildly inventive. “A lot of stuff you can’t take serious. You gotta laugh at that shit,” he says. “That’s just me. And I be high as hell.”
Luh Tyler
youtube
Hometown: Tallahassee
Tumblr media
I must say that majority of my favorite artists out right now are rising out of Florida. 16-year-old buzzing artist Luh Tyler is my latest obsession, and I can’t stop listening to his music. Just a few months ago, one of my friends texted me his single “Law & Order,” and wrote sign him now.

Street Signs: Murals in Chicago
Tumblr media
Still from Street Signs: Murals in Chicago 1988-1991, featuring mural “Tilt (Together Protect the Community) at the intersections of Fullerton and Washtenaw, Chicago, IL., by Damon Lamar Reed, Kristal Pacheco, John Pitman Weber. More info about this mural is available at Chicago Public Art Group.
Event: Street Signs: Murals in Chicago
Date/Time: Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm
Location: Chicago Art Department, 1926 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608
On Dec. 15, 2024, Sin Cinta Previa will premiere the short documentary film Street Signs: Murals in Chicago. Shot during 1988-1991, the film captures the powerful awareness of history and community identity evident in public murals of the era. Many of the murals have been lost to gentrification. Still, they are remembered by countless Latinx community members who lived in the city during those years. Street Signs includes murals in the neighborhoods of Humboldt Park, Little Village, Logan Square, and Pilsen from the 1980s to 1990s. This unfinished film was also supported by filmmakers Ronn Bayly and Susan Regele's then Chicago-based company Lightbound, active from 1980-1990.
The film features interviews with muralists Sandra Antongiorgi and Jose Guerrero, Dr. Olga Nuño and photographer Ivan Justiniano with narration by Ilya Adler. The filmmakers, and a very special guest, Sandra Antongiorgi, an accomplished Chicago-based muralist and musician in her own right, will discuss their roles and contributions to the making of the film. Our guests will also share their insights into this rare glimpse of Chicago’s Latinx community and mural art history. And, we’ll find out just how their remarkable film ended up unfinished and unseen until now.
The unfinished film canisters sat in Dobinsky’s attic until she donated sections of the unfinished project to the Chicago Film Archive. Fast forward to the summer of 2023, when Jose Luis Benavides, a Chicago (born-and-raised) experimental filmmaker, used some b-roll from their documentary project in a commissioned work for the Chicago Film Archives’ annual Media Mixer fundraiser. Benavides was thrilled to find clips of the communities he grew up in captured on film.
At the Media Mixer, Dobinsky presented herself to Benavides, and their friendship began. She invited him to her home, and shared her archives of the unfinished film, “Street Signs: Murals in Chicago”. Benavides, curator, and founder of Sin Cinta Previa, a Latinx video art screening series and web-based platform, has since been investigating this unfinished film project's archive of images, transcripts, and logs. Subsequently, he has curated the upcoming public screening and discussion. Benavides presented some of these materials at the Engine for Art, Democracy, and Justice at Begonia Labs, a project space affiliated with Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) in early 2024.
Benavides states, “These films are a true treasure, showcasing some still present, and some lost, Chicago murals by and in Chicanx and Boricua neighborhoods of Humboldt Park, Little Village, Logan Square, and Pilsen. Dobinsky and Lurtz’s film is a real time capsule, it will transport audiences back in time and inspire future generations.”
Recently awarded a grant from Hyde Park Art Center’s Artists Run Chicago Fund in partnership with Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art to host this screening event, Benavides applied to the grant with the following statement; “Murals on Film centers two Chicago women filmmakers’ documentation of Chicago's Latinx mural artists through an exploration of intersectional identities.”
Centering community narratives and memories of these murals, and the cultural practices of Mexican, and Latin American popular mural art practices, we can better understand these murals' importance as an American art form with broad roots in the Americas on a hemispheric level. This presentation of Chicago, Chicano, and Puerto Rican mural histories will recenter Latinx artistic contributions to public art and design in Chicago neighborhoods, often found at the center of problematic urban renewal projects, predatory real estate investments, and unchecked gentrification.
Benavides adds, “Centering these murals with a community-focused recollection of their significance and meanings, celebrating the artists who made them, and remembering their themes and icons, may help recall and redress the continued erasure and forced relocation of our Latinx communities still being pushed out of these neighborhoods due to historical and present-day gentrification while emphasizing our roots here, establishing the artistic, architecture, cultural, economic, and visual identities of Latinx communities in Chicago.”
Join us for a film screening, panel discussion, and intercultural and intergenerational dialogue as we seek community members to share their memories, experiences, and connections to these murals, as muralists, and the public who live/d beside these murals, for decades.
About the program:
Street Signs: Murals in Chicago. (29 min.) Susan Dobinsky and Julia Kurtz, 1988-1991. Feature interviews with muralists Sandra Antongiorgi and Jose Guerrero, Dr. Olga Nuño, and photographer Ivan Justiniano with narration by Ilya Adler.
Additional early cuts of Street Signs. Street Signs: Murals in Chicago (2 min., & 6 min.), with narration by Ilya Adler, Isabel De Sio, and Joaquin Perez.
Total run time: 37 min.
This program and the following discussion will be moderated by Sin Cinta Previa founder and curator, Jose Luis Benavides.
Tumblr media
Still from Street Signs: Murals in Chicago 1988-1991. Featuring the muralist, Sandra Antongiorgi.
About the artist:
Launching a visual arts career in Chicago at the age of 15, Sandra Antongiorgi had the rare opportunity to study under renowned muralists and artists, including Keith Haring. Known primarily for her gifted use of paint, and formation of concept, Antongiorgi has contributed to scores of murals that dot the Chicago cityscape. Her work has been showcased in several museums and exhibitions, including The National Museum of Mexican Art, Zhou B Gallery, and most recently a solo exhibit at Advocate & Gochis Galleries in Los Angeles, and the Center on Halsted Gallery.
Antongiorgi has led and collaborated on many murals including, Weaving Cultures, which won the Chicago Readers, "Best Mural of 2017". The mural is unique in that it features a transgender Latina, serves to bridge the gap between divided neighborhoods, and honors underrepresented women of color. One of her more recent mural collaborations, “The Love I Vibrate” is an inaugural mural honoring our non-binary community members. In 2018 “Es Tiempo de Recordar” a longstanding iconic mural in Chicago, also a collaboration, was whitewashed by the City, immediately launching Antongiorgi into advocacy for the anti-erasure of murals, and pushing for a permanent public mural registry that would preserve and protect cultural murals in the City of Chicago. Subsequently, a registry is being established to catalog and commemorate outdoor murals across the City of Chicago, and prevent complete removal or destruction.
As a studio artist, Antongiorgi draws upon life experiences, power relationships, culture, boundaries, mysticism, and spirituality. She explores how social stigmatization is internalized, inhibiting the ability to see one's abundant beauty, and uses human biology to reveal the inherent splendor within every one of us. Antongiorgi is dedicated to recognizing and responding to suffering.  Her works expose the damage caused by family violence, incarceration, and systematic marginalization. Antongiorgi’s work delves deeply into those struggles normally hidden from view. She invites us to see where many turn a blind eye. www.santongiorgi.com IG:@ santongiorgi

Navigating Roof Repairs with a Professional Roofing Contractor
An intact and well-maintained roof is crucial for the safety and integrity of any building. Over time, however, even the sturdiest roofs can suffer damage due to various factors such as weather conditions, age, or unforeseen incidents. This is where the expertise of a professional roofing contractor becomes indispensable. In this article, we explore what it means to engage a roofing contractor for roof repair services and how they can help maintain the longevity of your home's first line of defense against the elements.
The Importance of Timely Roof Repairs
A small leak or a missing shingle might not seem like an urgent problem, but even minor issues can quickly escalate into significant damage if left unaddressed. Water infiltration can lead to mold growth, rotting wood, and compromised structural integrity. A skilled roofing contractor understands the importance of promptly addressing these problems and can provide quick assessments and solutions to prevent further deterioration of your property.
Assessing Roof Damage
Before any repair work begins, a thorough inspection must be conducted by the roofing contractor to assess the extent of damage. This step is critical in identifying all areas that require attention – some may not be immediately visible to an untrained eye. A meticulous evaluation ensures that all problems are addressed in the repair process, eliminating surprises down the road.
Quality Roof Repair Services
A reputable roofing contractor offers quality roof repair services tailored to address specific types of damage. From replacing damaged shingles to sealing leaks or repairing areas around vents and chimneys, their expertise ensures that each aspect of roof repair is performed with precision and care. Using high-quality materials and proven techniques, they work to restore your roof's functionality and extend its lifespan.
Choosing the Right Roofing Contractor
When selecting a roofing contractor for your roof repair needs, consider several factors to ensure you're making an informed decision. Look for licensed professionals with experience in handling similar issues as those affecting your roof. Check reviews from previous clients to gauge satisfaction levels and reliability. Communication is also key – you want a contractor who keeps you informed throughout the process.
Preventive Maintenance by Professionals
Beyond immediate repairs, regular maintenance by a roofing contractor can preemptively identify potential weak spots before they develop into larger issues. Scheduled inspections typically involve cleaning gutters, inspecting flashing points, checking for signs of wear or damage on shingles, and ensuring proper attic ventilation – all contributing factors to preserving your roof’s condition.
The Value of Expertise in Roof Repair
There's no underestimating the value that an experienced roofing contractor brings when dealing with roof repairs. Their knowledge about different materials used in construction allows them to recommend suitable solutions tailored specifically to your property's needs while considering local climate conditions.
Conclusion
Engaging with a professional roofing contractor for your repair needs is not just about fixing current problems – it's about investing in your property's future by preventing potential damages that could incur substantial costs down the line. With their specialized skill set focused on quality service delivery right from assessment through preventive care measures after repairs have been completed; homeowners can rest assured knowing their roofs are in good hands and capable of ensuring lasting protection against whatever nature throws their way!
